Previous studies have reported hyperphagia and obesity in female rats with bilateral lesions of the most posterodorsal part of the amygdala. In rats with unilateral posterodorsal amygdaloid lesions, a dense pattern of anterograde degeneration appears in the ipsilateral ventromedial hypothalamus, but not the contralateral nucleus. In the present study, female rats with unilateral ventromedial hypothalamic lesions or sham lesions were given either sham lesions or unilateral lesions of the posterodorsal amygdala (PDA) 20 days later. Unilateral lesions of the ventromedial hypothalamus resulted in hyperphagia and excessive weight gain. Subsequent amygdaloid lesions that were contralateral to the initial hypothalamic lesions resulted in hyperphagia and additional excessive weight gains, but amygdaloid lesions ipsilateral to the initial hypothalamic lesions did not. It is concluded that the effects of the two lesions on body weight are not additive and that the PDA and ventromedial hypothalamus are part of the same ipsilateral pathway regulating feeding behavior and body weight regulation.  相似文献

In 1999, American lobsters, Homarus americanus, from western Long Island Sound (WLIS) experienced a significant mortality. In 2001 and 2004, the eyes and eyestalks of lobsters from WLIS and central LIS were examined for histopathological changes. Idiopathic lesions were identified in the ommatidia and optic nerve fibers proximal to the ommatidia in 29 (56%) of the lobsters from LIS. Lesions were categorized as either moderate or severe. Moderate lesions had altered rhabdoms, clumped pigment, and altered optic nerve fibers. Severe lesions were marked by absent rhabdoms, clumped pigment in both the ommatidial region and in the optic nerve region; and optic nerve fibers that had been completely destroyed and were replaced by vascular tissue. Idiopathic lesions occurred primarily in the central and ventral regions of the eye, and with much less frequency in the dorsal region. In addition, damage to the dorsal area tended to occur only when the severity of lesions was high, indicating a spatially progressive pattern to the lesion development. The lesions occurred in both western and central Long Island Sound, with no significant differences in severity between locations. The prevalence of lesions did not vary between years, but in 2004, several eyes had less severe pathology than those from 2001. These data indicate that the etiological agent is present throughout a large portion of the Sound, and that lobsters are probably continually exposed to it.  相似文献

This study examined the firing rate and pattern of electrophysiologically and chemically identified GABA interneurons in the dorsal raphe nucleus (DRN), and role of 5-HT1A receptor agonist 8-OH-DPAT and the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) in the firing activity in rats with 6-hydroxydopamine lesions of the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNc). The interneurons in rats with lesions of the SNc showed a more burst-firing, while having no change in the firing rate; the mPFC and combined mPFC and SNc lesions in rats decreased the firing rate of the interneurons and firing pattern shifted towards a more burst-firing compared to rats with sham lesions of the SNc, respectively. In rats with sham lesions of the SNc, administration of 8-OH-DPAT (1–243 μg/kg, i.v.) produced excitatory–inhibitory, excitatory and inhibitory effects in the firing rate of individual interneurons. However, when these effects were averaged over the group, 8-OH-DPAT had no significant effect on firing rate. In rats with lesions of the SNc, mPFC and the paired lesions, 8-OH-DPAT, at the same doses, inhibited all interneurons tested, respectively. Cumulative doses producing inhibition in rats with the paired lesions were higher than that of rats with lesions of the mPFC. In contrast to rats with sham lesions of the SNc, SNc lesion reduced expression of 5-HT1A receptor on parvalbumin positive neurons in the DRN, a subpopulation of GABA interneurons. Our results indicate that the SNc and mPFC regulate the firing activity of GABA interneurons in the DRN. Furthermore, response of likely GABA interneurons to systemic administration of 8-OH-DPAT is altered by lesion of the SNc and mPFC.  相似文献

The presence of oxidized sterols (oxysterols) in human serum and lesions has been linked to the initiation and progression of atherosclerosis. Data concerning the origin, identity and quantity of oxysterols in biological samples are controversial and inconsistent. This inconsistency may arise from different analytical methods or handling conditions used by different investigators. In the present study, oxysterol levels and distribution were analyzed by an optimized GC-MS method, in human atherosclerotic coronary and carotid lesions, in atherosclerotic apolipoprotein E deficient mice (E degrees mice) and in native and in vitro oxidized human low and high density lipoproteins. Oxysterol levels were analyzed with a limit of detection of 0.06 - 0.24 ng, with 25-hydroxycholesterol (25-OH) being the least sensitive. In human coronary and carotid lesions, obtained from endatherectomic samples, 27-hydroxycholesterol (27-OH) was the major oxysterol, with about 85% as sterols esterified to fatty acids. While total cholesterol and oxysterols levels were similar in both kinds of human lesions, oxysterol distribution was significantly different. In coronary lesions the mean levels of 27-OH and 7beta-hydroxycholesterol (7beta-OH) were 38% and 20% of total oxysterols, whereas in carotid lesions their mean levels were 66% and 5%, respectively. Unlike in human aortic lesions, 27-OH was entirely absent in E degrees mice, whereas the level of 7alpha-hydroxycholesterol (7alpha-OH) was 28% of the total oxysterols, vs. 5% in human coronary lesions. As 27-OH is an enzymatic product of cholesterol oxidation, this finding may indicate that such an enzymatic process does not take place in E degrees mice.  相似文献

摘要目的:评估超声造影(CEUS)引导下微波消融(MWA)治疗肝癌的有效性及应用价值。方法:108 例肝癌患者,共147个病灶经 MWA治疗。根据患者在做常规超声检查时,是否有扫查不清晰的结节或其他影像学检查提示可能存在多发结节等,分成CEUS 族和对照组。CEUS组41 名患者,年龄(57.9± 7.8)岁,共57 个病灶,平均直径(2.4± 1.5)cm,经超声造影引导下行微波消融治疗。 对照组67 名患者,年龄(55.5± 8.9)岁,共90 个病灶,平均直径(2.6± 1.7)cm,常规超声引导下同种条件行微波消融治疗。治疗后 对两组患者进行6~12 个月随访。结果:CEUS组的57 个病灶均清晰显示其位置、数目、大小、边界、形态,完全消融的结节为55 个,未完全消融的结节为2个。对照组67 名患者的90 个病灶,完全消融的病灶78 个;未完全消融的结节12 个。CEUS组完全消 融率高于病例对照组(96.49 %VS 86.67 %;P< 0.05)。随访6~12 个月后发现,CEUS 组完全消融率高于病例对照组(P< 0.05),差 异有统计学意义。结论:CEUS能更好的显示病灶的位置、数目、大小,更精确显示病灶边界、范围,造影引导下MWA 是一种有效 提高完全消融效率的方法,具有较大应用价值。  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to compare diameter of healthy and affected optic nerve determined by ultrasound with brain lesions in acute retrobulbar neuritis in patients with multiple sclerosis. In this prospective study 20 patients with multiple sclerosis and acute retrobulbar neuritis were examined. Optic nerve diameter was measured by ultrasound. Brain lesions were detected by magnetic resonance. Correlation between demyelinating lesions of the brain in multiple sclerosis and optic nerve diameter was tested by Kruskal-Wallis test. Significant difference in diameter between healthy and affected optic nerve in acute retrobulbar neuritis was found. Demyelinating brain changes examined by magnetic resonance revealed periventricular lesions, subcortical lesions and lesions in corpus callosum. There is statistically significant correlation between optic nerve diameter and number of brain lesions in multiple sclerosis, p < 0.05. Diameter of optic nerve in retrobulbar neuritis measured by ultrasound correlates with brain lesions detected by magnetic resonance in multiple sclerosis.  相似文献

Lesions associated with paratuberculosis and degrees of positivity by Ziehl-Neelsen (ZN) and Avidin–Biotin Complex peroxidase (ABC) techniques in 26 adult goats grossly or clinically suspected to paratuberculosis were studied. Of these, 17 (65.4%) had microscopic lesions associated with paratuberculosis which were classified into three categories. Diffuse multibacillary lesions (30.8%) characterized by a diffuse granulomatous enteritis with epithelioid macrophages infiltration as main inflammatory cells into lamina propria that arranged mosaic-like appearance, and filled with numerous acid fast bacilli in ZN and highly positive in ABC. Diffuse lymphocytic lesions (11.5%) composed of lymphocytes as main inflammatory infiltrate, with some epithelioid macrophages or giant cells containing few if any mycobacteria. Diffuse mixed lesions (23%) characterized by a diffuse granulomatous enteritis with infiltration of mixture of large numbers of lymphocytes and epithelioid macrophages with varying degrees of positivity in ZN and ABC. In all types of lesions, other lesions such as granulomatous lymphangitis and arteritis, lymphangiectasis, thrombi composed of degenerated epithelioid macrophages were observed. Caseous necrosis, calcification and fibrosis in mesenteric lymph nodes commonly, especially in diffuse lymphocytic form, were observed. In conclusion, the present study showed three categories of lesions in which diffuse multibacillary form was the commonest type. Both ABC and ZN methods can detect (ABC with more positivity) almost all the goats with diffuse multibacillary and mixed lesions; more cases with lymphocytic forms were positive by ABC than by ZN. ABC method seems to be an efficient diagnostic adjunct to conventional ZN staining for diagnosis of paratuberculosis in goats. The importance of sampling the ileum (especially ileocecal valve), jejunum and mesenteric lymph nodes to find microscopic lesions of paratuberculosis in goats is emphasized.  相似文献

The spontaneously diabetic Torii (SDT) rat has recently been established as an animal model of non-obese type 2 diabetes, in which ocular complications severe occur. However, the function and morphological features of the diabetic renal lesions in SDT rats have not been reported in detail. Therefore, we evaluated changes over time in renal lesions in SDT rats. In addition, SDT rats were treated with insulin to observe whether these renal complications are caused by hyperglycemia. Renal functional parameters and renal lesions were monitored in SDT rats from 8 to 68 weeks of age. Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats of similar age were used as control animals. In the insulin-treated group of SDT rats, insulin pellets were implanted at 24 weeks of age to compare the development of renal lesions. The SDT rats began to develop hyperglycemia at 20 weeks of age. In the histopathological examination of the kidney, glycogen deposition of the renal tubular epithelium and renal tubular dilation were observed from 24 weeks of age in the untreated SDT rats, and the changes in the renal tubules markedly progressed with aging. Moreover, thickening of the glomerular basement membrane was observed from 32 weeks of age. At 50 weeks of age, the glomeruli showed increase of mesangial matrix, with predominantly diffuse lesions showing by 68 weeks of age. The mesangial proliferation gradually progressed. In the SD rats, no renal lesions were present at 50 and 68 weeks of age. SDT rats with insulin treatment remained normoglycemic throughout observation and their renal functional parameters were normal. Glycemic control in SDT rats prevented the development of renal lesions. The features of SDT rats indicate their usefulness as an animal model for investigating diabetic nephropathy.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To compare the cytologic findings and diagnoses of breast fine needle aspiration (FNA) samples of well-defined lesions (WDL) with those of poorly defined indurated lesions. STUDY DESIGN: We examined 371 consecutive breast FNA specimens obtained without diagnostic image guidance. Fifty-eight lesions were described by the examining pathologists as PDILs, and the remaining 313 lesions were described as WDLs. RESULTS: Compared with WDLs, PDILs were more likely to yield hypocellular specimens deemed unsatisfactory for diagnostic evaluation (37.9% vs. 14.1%). However, a substantial number of atypical, suspicious for malignancy and malignant cases (12.1%, 5.2%, and 13.8%, respectively) were identified with PDILs. In addition, benign diagnoses were more frequently rendered with aspirates of WDLs, compared with PDILs (47.9% vs. 31.0%). In our study, FNAs of PDILs were more often diagnostic in white women < 49 years of age and in lesions measuring > 2 cm. CONCLUSION: Given the relatively high frequency of malignant, suspicious and atypical lesions detected with PDILs, FNA is a suitable first diagnostic approach for PDILs, especially considering the relatively low cost and simplicity of FNA procedures without diagnostic imaging guidance.  相似文献

A prospective study of the value of sputum cytology in the diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma of the larynx and hypopharynx is reported. Sputum cytology established the diagnosis in 63.5% of the patients with laryngeal lesions and in 77.4% of the patients with hypopharyngeal lesions. In laryngeal cancer, a positive diagnosis by sputum cytology was related to clinical T factors (according to the TNM classification): while only 29.4% of T1 lesions were positively detected by sputum cytology, 63.3% of T2 lesions, 69.7% of T3 lesions and 79.2% of T4 lesions were so detected. In hypopharyngeal cancer, there was no discernible relationship between sputum cytodiagnosis and clinical T factors. Generally, there was only a small number of cancer cells present in the sputum in these cases. Some of the squamous cancer cells were not very conspicuous and would require careful screening of the sputum specimens to be detected.  相似文献

Central nervous system lesions were studied by light microscopy in 43 farmed mink, aged 5 months to 2 1/2 years, with spontaneous encephalitozoonosis and showing cataractous eye changes. Lesions were found in the brain and spinal cord of all animals examined but were generally mild and chronic. The lesions were consistent with those previously described in spontaneous encephalitozoonosis in other carnivores. Parasites in parasitophorous vacuoles and free or phagocytosed in necrotic and granulomatous lesions were demonstrated in animals aged 5 months to 1 year. The occurrence of arterial lesions of the polyarteritis nodosa type found in the youngest animals probably indicates fetal infection. In animals aged 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 years active lesions were usually lacking and the changes were characterized by arterial sclerosis, sometimes with aneurysmal formations, small perivascular lympho-plasmacytic cuffings and focal gliosis.  相似文献

Spontaneously occurring calcified lesions were found in the tongues of DBA/2NCrj and CBA/BrA mice. In the DBA/2NCrj strain, the frequency of the lesion was 80% (males) and 88% (females). The youngest age of a mouse with this lesion was 18 days after birth, and 3-4 lesions were found in the tongue of 6- to 8-week-old mice. In CBA/BrA mice, 20% of females and 48% of males had the lesions. No significant differences were found in the serum calcium concentrations in high and low lesion-developing strains, but the alkaline phosphatase activities in the high-developing DBA/2NCrj, DBA/LiA, and CBA/BrA strains were higher than in strains with no calcified lesions.  相似文献

目的:探讨人乳头瘤病毒感染与宫颈癌前病变两者之间的相关性。方法:选择2009年11月~2011年12月来我院就诊的220例宫颈病变患者为研究对象,将患者分成4组,即炎症组、CINl组、CIN2组和CIN3组,各组进行人乳头瘤病毒检出率及病毒载量的比较。结果:炎症组、CINl、CIN2和CIN34组人乳头瘤病毒的检出率分别为67.2%、80%、87.3%和91.4%且4组之间比较差异有显著统计学意义(P〈O.001)。炎症组HPV感染的阳性率与CIN组比较显著降低(P〈0.005),宫颈癌前病变各组HPV感染呈阳性的病毒载量差异有统计学意义(P〈0.05)。结论:宫颈癌前病变的严重程度和感染高危型HPV病毒载量呈正相关,随着感染高危型HPV病毒载量越高,宫颈癌前病变的程度越严重。  相似文献

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) represents a therapeutic approach in which photosensitised neoplastic cells undergo destruction under the effect of light. In this study we have attempted to define effects of PDT on CHO cells, sensitised with protoporphyrin IX (PpIX). The photosensitised CHO cells were exposed to a visible light and development of apoptotic and necrotic lesions was followed in the cells, using the fluorescent staining with propidium iodide and Hoechst 33342. The experiments demonstrated that PpIX and light, acting in parallel, induce development of apoptotic and necrotic lesions in the cells. Intensity of the lesions was correlated with the concentration of the applied photosensibiliser and with the duration of exposure to light. The control experiments suggest that development of apoptosis in the applied model probably reflect mitochondrial damage, while processes developing close to the cell membrane are responsible for necrosis. In order to corroborate the obtained results, ultrastructural studies were performed on experimental groups in which evident apoptotic lesions were observed in the cells.  相似文献

A role of IL-18 in the induction of gastric lesions by water immersion and restraint stress (WRS) was investigated. When wild-type BALB/c mice were exposed to WRS, levels of IL-18 in the serum and stomach increased rapidly with the development of acute gastric lesions. In IL-18-deficient mice [IL-18 knockout (KO) mice] similarly exposed to WRS, no gastric lesions were observed, but the administration of IL-18 before exposure to WRS resulted in the induction of WRS-induced gastric lesions. WRS enhanced gastric histidine decarboxylase (HDC) activity with concomitant increases in gastric histamine content. In IL-18 KO mice, the WRS-induced elevation of gastric HDC activity and histamine levels was much less than that in wild-type mice, but it was augmented by prior administration of IL-18. Treatment of wild-type mice with cimetidine, a histamine H2 receptor antagonist, inhibited the formation of WRS-induced gastric lesions with no effect on the induction of gastric IL-18 by WRS. Levels of corticosterone, one of the stress indicators, were lower in IL-18 KO mice than in wild-type mice. The glucocorticoid receptor antagonist mifepristone had no effect on gastric IL-18 and histamine levels but aggravated the stress-induced gastric lesions, indicating that corticosterone was not involved in the IL-18-mediated formation of stress-induced gastric lesions. These results indicate that IL-18 is involved in the induction of gastric lesions by WRS through augmentation of HDC activity and production of histamine in the stomach.  相似文献

Beagle dogs were given a single, whole-body gamma-radiation exposure at various stages during ocular development and were evaluated for the presence of ocular lesions. Dogs were exposed during middle or late pregnancy at 28 or 55 days postcoitus (dpc) or as neonates at 2 days postpartum (dpp). Mean whole-body and ocular doses ranged from 1.0 to 3.8 Gy. Dogs were sacrificed and ocular lesions were evaluated at 70 days, 2 years, or 4 years of age. Retinal dysplasias and atrophy were the most striking lesions related to radiation exposure. These lesions were bilateral and focal to diffuse in nature, and they increased in severity with increasing radiation dose. The stage of development at irradiation had a marked effect on the distribution of retinal lesions, with the most severe changes being present in that portion of the retina undergoing differentiation at the time of the insult. In dogs sacrificed at 70 days of age the lesions were primarily dysplasias consisting of ectopic nuclear aggregates in the photoreceptor layer, retinal folds, and retinal rosettes. With increasing age (up to 4 years), there appeared to be progression of the extent of the clinically evident lesions, and there was a change in the nature of the lesions from dysplasia to atrophy. This was accompanied by marked attenuation of the retinal vasculature.  相似文献

In a study of fungi associated with symptoms of excoriose in Portugal, the most prevalent ones were found to be Botryosphaeria dothidea and Phomopsis viticola. In artificial inoculations, these two fungi infected grapevines causing dark lesions on the shoots and bud mortality. They were re-isolated from the shoot lesions and necrotic buds. Two further species of Botryosphaeria , namely B. obtusa and B. stevensii , were also isolated and they caused small lesions on wounded shoots but did not infect unwounded shoots. B. dothidea was also isolated from grapevines with a dieback of the trunk. These isolates were more virulent on young shoots and one-year-old canes than the ones from grapevines with excoriose.  相似文献
