The epidermal cuticle characteristics of Sublepidodendron cf. xinjiangense Sun in Wutong formation of late Devonian from Yixing city of Jiangsu province were studied using the technique of fluorescence analysis. The stem cuticle extended over the leaf cushions and its interval zones, when the cuticle thickness was more than at the leaf cushions. The shape of the epidermal cells in the interval zones differed from that in the leaf cushions; in which the epidermal cells of the central parts of the interval zones appeared in the elongated polygons, with coincided cell stretch direction as the stem growth, and with slightly curve cell walls. The shape of cells in the interval zones near the leaf cushions was similar to that in the former but only one half in size. with straight cell walls. Here the cells extended gradually with a deflection toward the margin of the leaf cushions. The cushion cellsware equilaterl polygons with visible cell interspaces. No stoma was discovered in the epidermis of this species.

Late Devonian Minostrobus chaohuensis is one of the earliest monosporangiate-strobilate isoetaleans. Based on new material of this plant, the vegetative axis and microsporangiate strobilus are studied in detail, and the whole plant knowledge is summarized. The vegetative axis is isotomously branched. The stem is up to 55 mm in diameter with helically arranged leaf cushions. Stems and thick branches bear long fusiform leaf cushions and interareas with vertical linear ornamentations. A ligule pit, oblanceolate leaf scar, and vascular bundle scar appear on the leaf cushion. Distal axes have persistent lanceolate leaves and rhombic leaf bases. The microsporangiate strobilus is cylindrical in shape, possesses sporophyll with alate pedicel and long triangular lamina, uniseriate sporangial wall, subarchesporial pad inside the sporangium, and microspore with cingulum. Based on comparisons with other isoetaleans, the usage of the terms “leaf cushion” and “leaf base” is discussed, and Minostrobus chaohuensis is considered as a tree-like lycopsid. It suggests that arborescent isoetaleans with monosporangiate strobili had appeared and diversified in the Late Devonian. The multi-dichotomous branching system of Minostrobus provides new data on the evolution of growth architecture in rhizomorphic lycopsids.

The present study reports in situ occurrence of two new epiphyllous fungal species of Phomites (comparable to modern genus Phoma Sacc.) on angiospermic leaf remains recovered from the Siwalik sediments (middle Miocene to early Pleistocene) of Arunachal Pradesh, eastern Himalaya. We describe two new species i.e. Phomites siwalicus Vishnu, Khan et Bera S, sp. nov. and Phomites neogenicus Vishnu, Khan et Bera S, sp. nov. on the basis of structural details of pycnidia. The pycnidium is a globose or slightly lens-shaped, ostiolate with a collar layer consisting of thick walled cells, sunken in leaf cuticle, with one-celled conidiospores and short-ampulliform conidiogenous cells. Host leaves resemble to those of extant Dipterocarpus C. F. Gaertn., Shorea Roxb. ex C. F. Gaertn. (Dipterocarpaceae), Dysoxylum Blume (Meliaceae), and Poaceae Barnhart. In situ occurrence of two Phomites morphotypes on the said leaf remains suggests a possible host–parasite interaction in the moist evergreen forest of Arunachal sub-Himalaya during Mio-Pleistocene period. The occurrence of Phomites in appreciable numbers indicates a humid climate favored by high rate of precipitation during Siwalik sedimentation, which is also consistent with our previously published climatic data obtained from the study of the macroscopic plant remains.

The study of imprints of Lycopsida from Permianof the Gondwana has permitted to specify the organisation of the leaf cushions and their variation in the genus LycopodiopsisB. Renault. The presence of a ligula is showed off. The invalidity of the genera Cyclodendron and Lycopodiophloios is demonstrated, and the species refered to these genera must be refered to the genus Lycopodiopsis for which an emended diagnosis is proposed.

A new species from Java, Hoya amicabilis S.Rahayu & Rodda is described and illustrated. It was first identified as a new species from pictures posted on social media in 2017. Hoya amicabilis is part of a small group of species that have an unusual shrubby habit, but it is the only one in that group with bright yellow campanulate flowers. Furthermore, Hoya amicabilis is a rather unusual species of Hoya since its staminal corona lobes are oblong, erect, while most species of Hoya have well‐developed generally spreading corona lobes, and its style head is umbonate, brightly coloured and extending above the anther appendages, while most species have a conical style head covered by anther appendages.

The study of numerous prints referred to the devonian genus Leptophloeum, more particularly from Kazakhstan and South Africa, has permitted to specify the morphology of the leaves and to explain the prints of the leaf cushions. The different species are revised. A comparison of the devonian genus Leptophloeum with the permian genus Lycopodiopsis leads us to consider the distinction of a new order: the Leptophloeodendrales regrouping these two genus.

Parablastocatena tetracerae gen. et sp. nov. and Corynesporella licualae sp. nov., collected on dead branches of Tetracera asiatica and Licuala fordiana, respectively, in tropical forests of China, are described and illustrated. Parablastocatena tetracerae is the type species for a new monotypic genus in possessing macronematous conidiophores forming distinct synnemata with holoblastic conidiogenesis and euseptate, short-chained conidia ending in a paler brown rostrum, whereas C. licualae is distinguished from described species by the smaller conidia with long appendages. A key to currently accepted species of Corynesporella is provided.

Isoxys is a very common Cambrian bivalved arthropod, specimens of which are normally preserved only as valves. The discovery of the soft anatomy of Isoxys may greatly assist understanding affinities and functional morphology. Isoxys minor Luo and Hu in Luo et al., 2008 is the most common representative of all animal species known from the lower Cambrian Guanshan fauna (Cambrian Series 2, Stage 4) at the Shitangshan Section, near Kunming, Yunnan Province, Southwest China. Here we describe and reconstruct the morphology of I. minor on the basis of newly illustrated fossils and a few new specimens that bear soft-parts including new discovery of frontal grasping appendages. Like the soft anatomy of other known Isoxys, it bears a pair of large stalked eyes, a pair of specialized frontal grasping appendages, approximately 12–14 paired biramous limbs, and a helm-like tail exposed outside the valves.

Monilistrobus Wang et Berry is a fossil lycopsid reported from the Upper Devonian Wutong Formation of Jiangsu Province, China, and includes only the type species Monilistrobus yixingensis Wang et Berry. Along a single fertile axis, Monilistrobus has cone-like structures separated by and alternated with a length of vegetative region, which is an important character here termed as periodicity of reproductive growth. The alternation of fertile and vegetative growth occurs regularly and produces repeated intercalary (non-terminal) fertile zones. New specimens, identified as Monilistrobus cf. yixingensis, from the same formation but of Zhejiang Province extend the geographic distribution of this genus. These new specimens demonstrate morphological variations within this genus, such as the lack of spiny appendages on the leaves, different measurements of leaf bases, and different shapes and positions of cone-like structures. The distribution of intercalary fertile zones, as summarized for the first time in this paper, occurs in the Drepanophycales, the Protolepidodendrales, the Isoëtales, the Lycopodiales, the Selaginellales, and Wuxia Berry, Wang et Cai and Monilistrobus of uncertain affinities. Thus, this peculiar trait might have evolved in the very early evolutionary stage of the lycopsids, as indicated in the basal group Drepanophycales. However, the presence of repeated, two or more intercalary fertile zones along a single fertile axis is demonstrated only in Monilistrobus and the extant Huperzia Bernhardi.

A new arthrophyte species, Pseudobornia schweitzeri Jurina et O. Orlova, sp. nov., from the Upper Devonian of northern Timan (northern European Russia) is described based on its peculiar leaf structure and anatomical features of stems and axes. The structure of the main stem and lateral axes, characters of the stem ribs and nodal curves, and leaf morphology are considered in detail. The presence of only conductive elements of the primary xylem in the axes of different orders of P. schweitzeri Jurina et O. Orlova, sp. nov. is shown. This is indicative of the absence of secondary growth of this plant. The systematic position and generic and species criteria of Pseudobornia are discussed.

Flavobathelium epiphyllumgen. et sp. nov. is described and illustrated. The new taxon is characterized by perithecia and pycnidia embedded in pulverulaceous, uni- to plurilocular pseudostromata, small, transversely septate ascospores, and the presence of bacillar to filiform macroconidia with gelatinous appendages and simple microconidia. Possible relationships are seen with the genusPhyllo-bathelium.Flavobathelium epiphyllumis a common species in Central and South American lowland to submontane rain forests with undisturbed vegetation. It is mostly found along moderately illuminated parts of the understory, such as small, natural light gaps.

A heterosporous lycopsid plant is described from the Upper Devonian (Famennian) Wutong Formation, Changxing County, northern Zhejiang Province, China. The plant is known for its terminal and many detached megasporangiate strobili, most of which do not have sporophylls preserved. Some megasporangiate strobili are closely associated with a vegetative axis bearing leaf cushions and with a mass of microspores. Because of the monosporangiate strobili, the present lycopsid belongs to the Dichostrobiles of the Isoёtales sensu lato. This lycopsid conforms to Changxingia in the vegetative leaves, leaf cushions (including leaf scar and ligule pit), some parts of the megasporophyll (pedicel, heel and lamina), the megasporangium and the megaspores, although the branching pattern of axes, the arrangement and other parts of megasporophyll are still unknown. The fossils are described as Changxingia sp., and this genus is expanded with character of microspore. Hence, the previous and present data indicate that the earliest lycopsids with monosporangiate strobili from the Upper Devonian of China are consistent in Lagenicula megaspores with gula and Lycospora microspores with equatorial cingulum. In contrast, the Carboniferous lycopsids with monosporangiate strobili in Euramerica and Cathaysia show great diversification of both megaspores and microspores.
