正In 2018,we will celebrate the 40~(th) anniversary of Genetics Society of China(GSC),which was founded in Nanjing,China in October,1978,soon after China adopted an open door policy for reform.One major mission of GSC during its inception was to publish a genetics journal,aiming to provide a window for Chinese geneticists to showcase their new discoveries.In fact,a genetics journal named Acta Genetica Sinica(AGS)had been published since June of 1974(Fig.1).This journal pub-     

240th anniversary of the birth of Georges Cuvier (1769–1832)

August 2009 marked the 240th anniversary of the birth of Georges Cuvier, an architect of comparative anatomy, a founder of paleontology, and the originator of catastrophism. An account of the biography and summary of research of this outstanding French natural historian is provided. A contemporary of Cuvier, Napoleon Bonaparte, in 1800 regarded the diverse talents of his compatriot so highly that he made him a trusted member of his inner circle, inviting his help in both private matters and state affairs.     

150th Anniversary of the birth of Louis Dollo (1857–1931), a Foreign Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR

December 7, 2007, was the 150th anniversary of the birth of Louis Dollo, a prominent Belgian evolutionary paleontologist. The article briefly describes his life, research, and museum work as well as his work on popularizing science. The main scientific works of Dollo and their international recognition are characterized. Dollo’s high reputation among Russian scientists led to his election, on January 11, 1928, as a Foreign Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR.
