This review analyzes the literature and original data on the resources, use, and cultivation of useful marine macrophytes in Vietnam. Information is provided about more than 60 species of macroalgae: including 41 species of Rhodophyta, 15 species of Heterokontophyta and 7 species of Chlorophyta. Out of these, more than 50 species are used for food, about 20 species are used in folk medicine, and more than 30 species are important commercial sources of polysaccharides (agar, carrageenan, and alginates); Sargassum, Gracilaria, and Kappaphycus are exported (mainly to China). The wild stocks of useful algae in Vietnam are declining as a result of their uncontrolled export (especially Sargassaceae). Several species of Gracilaria and Kappaphycus are commercially cultivated and also exported.  相似文献

Biosorption of metal ions (Li+, Ag+, Pb2+, Cd2+, Ni2+, Zn2+, Cu2+, Sr2+, Fe2+, Fe3+ and Al3+) by Rhizopus nigricans biomass was studied. It was shown that metal uptake is a rapid and pH-dependent process, which ameliorates with increasing initial pH and metal concentrations. Different adsorption models: Langmuir, Freundlich, split-Langmuir and combined nonspecific-Langmuir adsorption isotherm were applied to correlate the equilibrium data. The maximum biosorption capacities for the individual metal ions were in the range from 160 to 460 mol/g dry weight. Scatchard transformation of equilibrium data revealed diverse natures of biomass metal-binding sites. The binding of metals was also discussed in terms of the hard and soft acids and bases principle. The maximum biosorption capacities and the binding constant of R. nigricans were positively correlated with the covalent index of metal ions.The following types of waste microbial biomass originating as by-products from industrial bioprocesses were tested for biosorption of metal ions: Aspergillus terreus, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Phanerochaete chrysosporium, Micromonospora purpurea, M. inyoensis and Streptomyces clavuligerus. The determined maximum biosorption capacities were in the range from 100 to 500 mol/g dry weight. The biosorption equilibrium was also represented with Langmuir and Freundlich sorption isotherms.  相似文献

The biomass and maximum depth of colonization (Z max) of Egeria najas Planchon (submerged), and the biomass and area covered by a stand of Eichhornia crassipes (Mart.) Solms and Salvinia herzogii Raddi (floating species) were assessed to measure the effects of a 5 m drawdown in water level of the Itaipu Reservoir (Brazil–Paraguay), which lasted about 3 months. The frequency of occurrence of the two first species, and of Salvinia spp was also assessed in the main arms of the reservoir. A conspicuous decrease of E. najas biomass was observed and this attribute did not reach the previous values even 10 months after the water level had returned to normal. Rapid growth of free-floating species (surface t doub = 2.9 and 3.2 days for total biomass of S. herzogii and E. crassipes, respectively, and 2.3 days for surface area covered by both species) was recorded immediately after the water level returned to normal. This fast growth was related to phosphorus increases in water. A clear succession was observed over a period of 103 days, during which S. herzogii was slowly substituted by E. crassipes. The effects of water level drawdown were also observed on E. najas frequency, given that this species occurred in 38% of the stands investigated before the water drawdown, but in only 9 and 6% of stands following 1 and 10 months of water level recovery, respectively. Water drawdown did not affect the frequency of occurrence of the floating species, which remained approximately constant, and lower than 15% in several of the reservoir arms investigated.  相似文献

The oxidation of NADPH by vanadate(V) in the presence of glutathione reductase showed typical enzymatic kinetics. The oxidation was inhibited by N-ethylmaleimide, a glutathione reductase inhibitor. Superoxide dismutase had no significant effect on the oxidation, indicating noninvolvement of the superoxide radical. The vanadate(V) reduction was found to be a one-electron transfer process. These results suggest a new pathway for vanadate(V) metabolism and a new function of glutathione reductase.  相似文献

Major glycolipids [monogalactosyldiacylglycerol (MGDG), digalactosyldiacylglycerol (DGDG), sulfoquinovosyldiacylglycerol (SQDG)) and phospholipids (phosphatidylcholine (PC), phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) and phosphatidylglycerol (PG)] as well as betaine lipid 1,2-diacylglycero-O-4'-(N,N,N-tri-methyl)-homoserine (DGTS) were isolated from Anfeltia tobuchiensis (Rhodophyta), Laminaria japonica, Sargassum pallidum (Phaeophyta), Ulva fenestrata (Chlorophyta) and Zostera marina (Embriophyta), harvested in the Sea of Japan. GC analysis of their fatty acid (FA) composition revealed that the n-6 polyunsaturated FAs (PUFAs) shared the most part of the sum of n-6 and n-3 PUFAs in PC and PE compared with glycolipids and PG. In algae, it was related to the prevalence of 20:4n-6 over 20:5n-3 in non-photosynthetic lipids. Percentage of n-6 PUFAs as well as the sum of n-3 and n-6 PUFAs decreased in the following sequence: PC-->PE-->PG. The saturation increased in the lines of MGDG-->DGDG-->SQDG and PC-->PE-->PG. PG was close to SQDG by the level of saturation. Distribution of C(18) and C(20) PUFAs in polar lipids depended on taxonomic position of macrophytes. Balance between C(18) and C(20) PUFAs was preferably shifted to the side of C(20) PUFAs in PC and PE that was observed in contrast to glycolipids and PG from L. japonica containing both series of FAs. The set of major FAs of polar lipid classes can essentially differ from each other and from total lipids of macrophytes. For example, MGDG was found to accumulate characteristic fatty acids 16:4n-3, 16:3n-3, 18:3n-6 and 18:4n-3, 20:3n-6 in U. fenestrata, Z. marina, L. japonica and S. pallidum, respectively.  相似文献

Summary The more complex inhibitory effect of As(III) than that of As(V) on Fe(II) oxidation in a non-growing Thiobacillus ferrooxidans suspension was demonstrated. The yield of arsenic bioextraction from a chalcopyrite concentrate was not affected by arsenic inhibition due to the low sensitivity of the strain to arsenic ions, supported by a spontaneous conversion of As(III) to As(V).  相似文献

The present study examined the effect of UV andphotosynthetically active radiation (PAR) onphotoinhibition and recovery in the Phaeophyte Macrocystis pyrifera, the Rhodophyte Chondruscrispus and the Chlorophyte Ulva lactuca underoutdoor culture conditions. There was an increase inphotoinhibition as a consequence of high exposure toUV-B radiation in M. pyrifera, however, highlevels of PAR accounted for most of thephotoinhibition in C. crispus and U.lactuca. Photodamage by UV-A, UV-B and PAR wascompletely repaired within 5 h and effective quantumyield reached pretreatment values in the three speciesstudied. Species were less susceptible tophotoinhibition after being incubated for 5 d underhigh exposures of natural irradiance suggesting aphotoadaptive process. The recovery of the effectivequantum yield was impaired by long exposure to highlevels of UV-B in C. crispus and UV-A, UV-B andPAR in M. pyrifera. This suggests a differentkind of damage by UV-A and PAR radiation, one to thephotosynthetic apparatus and another which affects therepair mechanism of some species. There was anincrease in UV-absorption ( 330 nm) in M. pyrifera and C. crispus within four days ofthe initiation of the experiment suggesting that thesespecies photoprotect their photosynthetic system whenexposed to elevated UV and PAR levels.  相似文献

Muramic acid, a component of the muramyl peptide found only in the cell walls of bacteria and blue-green algae, furnishes a measure of detrital or sedimentary procaryotic biomass. A reproducible assay involving acid hydrolysis, preparative thin-layer chromatographic purification, and colorimetric analysis of lactate released from muramic acid by alkaline hydrolysis is described. Comparison of semitropical estuarine detritus, estuarine muds, and sediments from anaerobic Black Sea cores showed muramic acid levels of 100 to 700 microng/g (dry weight), 34 microng/g, and 1.5 to 14.9 microng/g, respectively. Enzymatic assays of lactate from muramic acid gave results 10- to 20-fold higher. Radioactive pulse-labeling studies showed that [14C]acetate is rapidly incorporated into muramic acid by the detrital microflora. Subsequent loss of 14C, accompanied by nearly constant levels of total muramic acid, indicated active metabolism in procaryotic cell walls.  相似文献

Wave exposure is one of the fundamental variables of the coastal environment and many coastal processes are affected by waves and wave‐induced water motion. Directly or indirectly, waves affect the lives of many coastal macroalgae and seagrasses. Although the idea that waves can affect macrophyte distribution and biodiversity is not new, it remains poorly examined. We looked at how a gradient of wave exposure, determined using the surf similarity number, influences the species richness of macrophytes among phyla and functional form groups. We suggest that wave exposure is a biologically and statistically significant variable and that the species richness of most phyla and groups decrease with increasing exposure. More interestingly, the analysis suggests that the Phaeophyta and the thick‐leathery functional form group, which are associated with important coastal habitats (i.e. submarine forests), increases in species richness as exposure increases. It appears that the effect of wave exposure varies with phyla and functional form group. Consequently, we reinforce the belief that studies that address the biodiversity and distribution of macrophytes must include wave exposure as a measured variable, to provide any meaningful synthesis of the ecology of these organisms.  相似文献

Due to an increased awareness of climate change and limited fossil resources, the demand for alternative energy carriers such as biomass has risen significantly during the past years. This development is supported by the idea of a transition to a bio‐based economy reducing fossil‐based carbon dioxide emissions. Based on this trend, biomass for energy is expected to be used in the EU mainly for heating until the end of the decade. The perennial herbaceous mallow plant Sida hermaphrodita (L.) Rusby (‘Sida’) has high potential as an alternative biomass plant for energy purposes. Different density cultivation scenarios of Sida accounting for 1, 2, or 4 plants per m2 resulted in a total biomass yield of 21, 28, and 34 tons dry matter/ha, respectively, over a 3‐year period under agricultural conditions while the overall investment costs almost doubled from 2 to 4 plants per m2. Subsequently, Sida biomass was used as SI) chips, SII) pellets, and SIII) briquettes for combustion studies at pilot plant scale. Pellets outcompeted chips and briquettes by showing low CO emission of 40 mg/Nm3, good burnout, and low slagging behavior, however, with elevated NOx and SO2 levels. In contrast, combustion of chips and briquettes displayed high CO emissions of >1,300 mg/Nm3, while SO2 values were below 100 mg/Nm3. Contents of HCl in the flue gas ranged between 32 and 52 mg/Nm3 for all Sida fuels tested. High contents of alkaline earth metals such as CaO resulted in high ash melting points of up to 1,450°C. Life cycle assessment results showed the lowest ecological impact for Sida pellets taking all production parameters and environmental categories into consideration, showing further advantages of Sida over other alternative biomasses. Overall, the results indicate the improved applicability of pelletized Sida biomass as a renewable biogenic energy carrier for combustion.  相似文献

Marine heatwaves have been observed worldwide and are expected to increase in both frequency and intensity due to climate change. Such events may cause ecosystem reconfigurations arising from species range contraction or redistribution, with ecological, economic and social implications. Macrophytes such as the brown seaweed Fucus vesiculosus and the seagrass Zostera marina are foundation species in many coastal ecosystems of the temperate northern hemisphere. Hence, their response to extreme events can potentially determine the fate of associated ecosystems. Macrophyte functioning is intimately linked to the maintenance of photosynthesis, growth and reproduction, and resistance against pathogens, epibionts and grazers. We investigated morphological, physiological, pathological and chemical defence responses of western Baltic Sea F. vesiculosus and Z. marina populations to simulated near‐natural marine heatwaves. Along with (a) the control, which constituted no heatwave but natural stochastic temperature variability (0HW), two treatments were applied: (b) two late‐spring heatwaves (June, July) followed by a summer heatwave (August; 3HW) and (c) a summer heatwave only (1HW). The 3HW treatment was applied to test whether preconditioning events can modulate the potential sensitivity to the summer heatwave. Despite the variety of responses measured in both species, only Z. marina growth was impaired by the accumulative heat stress imposed by the 3HW treatment. Photosynthetic rate, however, remained high after the last heatwave indicating potential for recovery. Only epibacterial abundance was significantly affected in F. vesiculosus. Hence both macrophytes, and in particular F. vesiculosus, seem to be fairly tolerant to short‐term marine heatwaves at least at the intensities applied in this experiment (up to 5°C above mean temperature over a period of 9 days). This may partly be due to the fact that F. vesiculosus grows in a highly variable environment, and may have a high phenotypic plasticity.  相似文献

Biomass of nonliving, dried brown marine algae Sargassum natans, Fucus vesiculosus, and Ascophyllum nodosum demonstrated high equilibrium uptake of cadmium from aqueous solutions. The metal uptake of cadmium from aqueous solutions. The metal uptake by these materials was quantitatively evaluated using sorption isotherms. Biomass of A. nodosum accumulated the highest amount of cadmium exceeding 100 mg Cd(2+)/g (at the residual concentration of 100 mg Cd/L and pH 3.5), outperforming a commercial ion exchange resin DUOLITE GT-73. A new biosorbent material based on A. nodosum biomass was obtained by reinforcing the algal biomass by formaldehyde cross-linking. The prepared sorbent possessed good mechanical properties, chemical stability of the cell wall polysaccharides and low swelling volume. Desorption of deposited cadmium with 0.1-0.5M HCI resulted in no changes of the biosorbent metal uptake capacity through five subsequent adsorption/desorption cycles. Total biomass dry weight (DW) and ash free dry weight (AFDW) of five species of marine microalgae, Dunaliella sp., Isochrysis galbana, Nannochloropsis sp., Nitzschiaclosterium and Porphyridium cruentum, retained on filter paper, were determined. Dunaliella and Isochrysis cells have no cell wall; Nannochloropsis, Nitzschia and Porphyridium possess a cell wall and Nitzschia and Porphyridium cells are covered by silica and mucilage coating, respectively. In all these algae, DW of non-washed samples was at least 1.2 times higher than those washed by distilled water,0.9% sodium chloride, 0.5 M ammonium formate or 0.5 M ammonium bicarbonate. DW of 0.9% sodium chloride washed samples was more than 0.8 times higher than the other three washed samples. In most of the cases, there was no significant difference between DW of samples washed by ammonium formate and ammonium bicarbonate solutions (p>0.05). The AFDW of the non-washed algal samples was about twice that washed samples, and could be accounted for by volatile component in the sea water medium. Isotonic solution of ammonium bicarbonate is a satisfactory washing agent for algal cells for dry weight determination. SUMMARY 1. We measured biomass and light/dark bottle productivity of macrophytes in a Wisconsin stream throughout one growing season. Except for a brief period in early spring when a Cladophora glomerata -filamentous algal community was dominant, Potamogeton pectinatus was the dominant macrophyte species in Badfish Creek.
2. Maximum community biomass was 710 g DW m−2, with a maximum above ground biomass of 620 g DW m−2 and a maximum below ground biomass of 120 g DW m−2. Annual productivity was estimated at 1435 g DW m−2 year−1, with a calculated P/B of 2.01.
3. In situ net production averaged 2.83g C g AFDW−1 h−1 Net positive carbon gain by the P. pectinatus community occurred when water temperatures were above 15°C, and daylength at least 12h. This is correlated to the onset of tuber germination in spring, and the point of maximal biomass decline in autumn.  相似文献

In this study, potentials of oven dried biomass of Eichhornia crassipes, Valisneria spiralis and Pistia stratiotes, were examined in terms of their heavy metal (Cd, Ni, Zn, Cu, Cr and Pb) sorption capacity, from individual-metal and multi-metal aqueous solutions at pH 6.0+/-0.1 (a popular pH of industrial effluent). V. spiralis was the most and E. crassipes was the least efficient for removal of all the metals. Cd, Pb and Zn were efficiently removed by all the three biomass. Cd was removed up to 98% by V. spiralis. Sorption data for Cr, Ni and Cd fitted better to Langmuir isotherm equation, while, the sorption data for Pb, Zn and Cu fitted better to Freundlich isotherm equation. In general, the presence of other metal ions did not influence significantly the targeted metal sorption capacity of the test plant biomasses. Ion exchange was proven the main mechanism involved in bio-sorption and there was a strong ionic balance between adsorbed (H(+) and M(2+)) to the released ions (Na(+) and K(+)) to and from the biomass. No significant difference was observed in the metal exchanged amount, by doubling of metal concentration (15-30 mg/l) in the solution and employing individual-metal and multi-metal solutions.  相似文献

Type V collagen is a quantitatively minor fibrillar collagen comprised of different chain compositions in different tissues. The most widely distributed form, an alpha1(V)2alpha2(V) heterotrimer, regulates the physical properties of type I/V heterotypic collagen fibrils via partially processed NH2-terminal globular sequences. A less characterized alpha1(V)alpha2(V)alpha3(V) heterotrimer has a much more limited distribution of expression and unknown function(s). We characterized the biosynthetic processing of pro-alpha1(V)2pro-alpha2(V) procollagen previously and showed it to differ in important ways from biosynthetic processing of the major fibrillar procollagens I-III. Here we have successfully produced recombinant pro-alpha1(V)pro-alpha2(V)pro-alpha3(V) heterotrimers. We use these, and mouse embryo fibroblasts doubly homozygous null for the Bmp1 gene, which encodes the metalloproteinase bone morphogenetic protein-1 (BMP-1), and for a gene encoding the closely related metalloproteinase mammalian Tolloid-like 1, to characterize biosynthetic processing of pro-alpha1(V)pro-alpha2(V)pro-alpha3(V) heterotrimers, thus completing characterization of type V collagen biosynthetic processing. Whereas pro-alpha1(V) and pro-alpha2(V) processing in pro-alpha1(V)pro-alpha2(V)pro-alpha3(V) heterotrimers is similar to that which occurs in pro-alpha1(V)2pro-alpha2(V) heterotrimers, the processing of pro-alpha3(V) by BMP-1 occurs at an unexpected site within NH2-terminal globular sequences. We also demonstrate that, despite similarities in NH2-terminal domain structures, pro-alpha2(V) NH2-terminal globular sequences are not cleaved by ADAMTS-2, the metalloproteinase that cleaves the N-propeptides of the major fibrillar procollagen chains.  相似文献

The Schiff base ligand derived from salicylaldehyde and benzoic acid hydrazide (H2salhyph) reacts with potassium metavanadate in methanol solution to yield the potassium salt of the corresponding cis-dioxovanadium(V) complex K[VO2(salhyph)] (1). 1 crystallizes with one molecule of methanol in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/c with a = 1332.3(7), b = 669.9(2), c = 1809.0(8) pm, beta = 100.96(4) degrees, and Z = 4. The reactions of 1 with several proton acidic compounds including water, methanol, ethane-1,2-diol (H2ed), and proton acids lead to neutral monooxovanadium(V) and cis-dioxovanadium(V) complexes ([VO2(Hsalhyph)] (2); [V2O3(salhyph)2] (3); [VO(OMe)(salhyph)(HOMe)] (4); [VO(Hed)(salhyph)] (5)). The crystal structure of 2 (triclinic space group P1 with a = 677.79(5), b = 842.89(7), c = 1214.66(9) pm, alpha = 79.931(1), beta = 75.466(1), gamma = 73.391(1) degrees, and Z = 2) reveals that the protonation of the cis-dioxovanadium(V) complex 1 occurs at the hydrazide nitrogen atom of the ligand system. This was confirmed by the spectroscopic properties of the deuterium derivative.  相似文献
