Long term exposure to brackish water (171 mm NaCl) affected the capacity of common carp Cyprinus carpio to deal with hypoxic conditions and the critical oxygen concentrations for oxygen consumption increased. In addition, regulation of ammonia excretion was lost. The cytosolic phosphorylation potential (the index of the energy status of a cell in terms of potential transferable phosphate groups) in the lateral muscle on the other hand remained relatively unaffected, indicating that oxygen transport to the tissues was not severely compromised. It appears that exposure to brackish water reduces the capacity of common carp to cope with hypoxic conditions mainly because of the high energetic cost of hyperventilation under conditions where energy stores are depleted, and not because of any impeded oxygen transport mechanisms.  相似文献

Changes in the protein metabolism of gill, kidney and intestine of freshwater fish, Cyprinus carpio exposed to 1, 15 and 30 days to sublethal concentration (0.1 mg/l) of mercury were studied. The total, soluble and structural protein contents recorded the depletion followed by progressive increase in accumulation of free aminoacids. Concurrently, the activity of protease in the tissues was also increased. A steady enhancement in the activities of aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase paralleled the elevation of glutamate dehydrogenase activity in the organs studied. Levels of ammonia and urea have also reported elevation. All these changes clearly documented the induction of severe proteolysis. The magnitude of these changes increased overtime. These changes were more in the gill at the initial periods of exposure (1 and 15 days), but as the period of exposure increased, these changes were more pronounced in the kidney at 30 days of exposure to sublethal concentration of mercury.  相似文献

Individual common carp Cyprinus carpio were screened repeatedly for risk taking (rate of exploration of a novel, potentially dangerous environment) and for competitive ability (success in gaining access to a spatially restricted food source). Marked differences in behaviour were evident, and significant consistency in individual responses across trials was found for both risk taking and competitive ability. In addition, there was a significant positive relationship between individual performance in these two contexts, with fish that explored more quickly in the novel environment tending to be among the first to gain access to restricted food. In two follow‐up studies, resting metabolic rate, blood lactate and glucose and the expression of the cortisol receptor gene in the head kidney and brain were compared in fish from the two extremes of the risk‐taking spectrum. Mass‐specific metabolic rate was significantly higher in risk‐taking than in risk‐avoiding fish, while plasma lactate and glucose concentrations and expression of the cortisol receptor gene were lower. It was concluded that a behavioural syndrome based on boldness and aggression exists in C. carpio, as it does in many other animals, and that this is associated with differences in metabolic and stress physiology (down to the genomic level) similar to those described in animals with different coping strategies.  相似文献

Moderate hypoxia (Pio2, = 50 mmHg) caused tachycardia in carp, Cyprinus curpio Linnaeus, whereas severe hypoxia (Pio2, from 30 to 5 mmHg) coincided with bradycardia accompanied by alterations of the waveforms of the electrocardiogram. A cardio respiratory synchronization developed during hypoxia and was maintained during bradycardia. The data raised the question: Does hypoxic bradycardia in part result from myocardial dysfunction or only from regulatory adjustments?  相似文献

Synopsis Oxygen uptake (Vo 2) was measured in carp of approximately 40 cm length swimming at controlled variable oxygen tensions (Po 2). At Po 2> 120 mm Hg Vo 2 increased with an increase in swimming speed from 5.6 to 11.3 cm · sec–1. Extrapolation of Vo 2 to zero activity at Po 2 = 140 mm Hg revealed a standard O2 uptake of 36.7 ml O2 · kg–1 · h–1 at 20° C. At the lowest swimming speed (5.6 cm · s–1) the oxygen uptake increased when the water Po 2 was reduced. A near doubling in Vo 2 was seen at Po 2 = 70 mm Hg compared to 140 mm Hg. At higher swimming speeds in hypoxic water Vo 2 decreased relative to the values at low swimming speeds. As a result the slope of the lines expressing log Vo 2 as a function of swimming speed decreased from positive to negative values with decreasing Po 2 of the water. pH of blood from the caudal vein drawn before and at termination of swimming at Po 2 = 70 mm Hg and 100 mm Hg did not show any decrease in relation to rest values at Po 2 = 140 mm Hg. Blood lactate concentration did not increase during swimming at these tensions.  相似文献

The effects of sublethal concentrations of mercury (0.1mg/l) and zinc (6 mg/l) on acetylcholinesterase activity and acetylcholine content of gill, kidney, intestine, brain, liver and muscle of the freshwater fish Cyprinus carpio at 1, 15 and 30 days of exposure were studied. A significant suppression in acetylcholinesterase activity was recorded in all the organs from both mercury and zinc intoxicated fish at all the exposure periods. Concurrently, a significant increase in the content of acetylcholine in the organs was observed. These changes observed in the organs of mercury treated fish in different exposure periods were in the order 1 greater than 15 less than 30 days and in zinc treated fish 1 greater than 15 greater than 30 days. Further, these changes were greater in magnitude in the brain, liver and muscle (non-osmoregulatory organs) than in the gill, kidney and intestine (osmoregulatory organs) in both metal media.  相似文献

DL-alpha-Methyltryptophan (alphaMeTrp), a synthetic analogue of tryptophan, has been found to be a potent inducer of hepatic tyrosine aminotransferase activity in the adrenalectomized rat. alphaMeTrp is inactive in vitro. Unlike the action of other known inducers (tryptophan, hydrocortisone, adenosine cyclic 3:5-monophosphate, and glucagon), maximal stimulation of enzyme activity occurs only 16 to 30 hours after alphaMeTrp administration and the activity is still elevated at 96 hours. Only the L isomer of alphaMeTrp is active, and addition of a hydroxyl group to position 5 of the indole ring renders an inactive compound. The induction can be prevented by actinomycin D or cycloheximide but not galactosamine. Administration of alphaMeTrp together with hydrocortisone produced an additive stimulation of enzyme activity. alphaMeTrp given along with glucagon or adenosine cyclic 3:5-monophosphate caused a further but not additive increase in enzyme activity. Tryptophan given along with alphaMeTrp promoted no extra stimulation whatsoever. These data indicate that alphaMeTrp and tryptophan may act via a common pathway which in part requires RNA synthesis. Other enzymes, namely alanine and aspartate aminotransferase, ornithine aminotransferase, ornithine carbamoyltransferase, serine dehydratase, and histidine ammonialyase, were not affected by treatment of rats with alphaMeTrp.  相似文献

Summary The interaction of adrenaline and adenosine was examined in cardiac tissue of the flounderPlatichthys flesus. When applied alone both agents increased contractility in both auricular and ventricular myocardial strips. This positive inotropic effect was associated with a small depolarization in the tissues examined by the sucrose gap technique. Simultaneous application of adrenaline and adenosine gave an inhibition of the control responses seen with either agent alone in both auricle and ventricle.Radiocalcium flux studies on ventricular tissue showed that influx was increased by adrenaline or adenosine alone above control values, but when applied together radiocalcium influx was reduced. Radiocalcium efflux from cardiac microsomes was stimulated by challenge with adrenaline or adenosine alone. This stimulation was not seen following simultaneous challenge by both agents. The effect of adrenaline on responses of hypoxic flounder hearts was less than that seen in normoxic hearts. This situation was reversed by pretreatment with the purine receptor blocker caffeine. Caffeine pretreatment also reduced the positive inotropic effect seen in normoxic hearts challenged with adenosine.TLC studies gave strong evidence that hearts perfused with hypoxic salines produced both adenosine and adrenaline. The results are discussed as evidence for a mechanism of heart regulation which the flounder may use as a defence against severe acute hypoxic stress.  相似文献

The author investigated the presence of various carotenoids in the different parts of the body of Cyprinus carpio L. by means of columnar and thinlayer chromatography. The material in the form of the fertilized eggs, week-old fry, month-old fry, four-months old fry, one-year old fry and marketable carp were investigated.Yugoslavian carp brought to Poland as fry, and hybrid the wild carp crossed with of the cultivation carp, were also taken for analysis. The carotenoid content of Cyprinus carpio bred in waters polluted by municipal wastes and specimens suffering from diseases of the airbladder was also determined. The content of carotenoids, the provitamin of vitamin A, in Cyprinus carpio depends of many factors existing during the cultivation of these fish.  相似文献

A study was made of the mechanisms of discrimination of geometrical figures and their angles by fish and of the influence of repeated presentation of stimuli on recognition time. The experiment was made by the conditioning method with the use of two variants of food-procuring technique: simultaneous and successive choice of stimuli. It was shown that discrimination of geomentrical figures is achieved at the fist stage by the mechanism of selection, and after long training, by the mechanism of camparison with a chosen standard. The selection mechanism is also used for recognition of angles by their size. Certain combinations of angles differentiated not by size, but by orientation of their sides, are recognized by the mechanism of comparison with a standard.  相似文献

Alterations in the levels of some biochemical and enzymological parameters in brain, liver and muscle tissues of Cyprinus carpio exposed to sublethal concentration (10 micrograms/liter) of fenvalerate for 6, 12, 24 and 48 hr were studied. Total, structural and soluble proteins were decreased, whereas the free amino acids and the activities of protease, aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase significantly increased in fenvalerate exposed fish. It is also observed that the changes were more pronounced with an increase in the period of exposure. Within the tissues, the alterations in biochemical and enzymological parameters was in the following order: liver greater than brain greater than muscle. The possible roles of fenvalerate induced changes in the fish are discussed.  相似文献
