Results are presented from experiments on studying the plasma behavior in the L-2M stellarator in regimes with a high power deposition in electrons during electron cyclotron heating at the second harmonic of the electron gyrofrequency (X mode) at heating powers of P in=120–400 kW and average plasma densities from n e≤3×1019 to 0.3×1019 m?3. It is shown that, as the plasma density decreases and the heating power increases, the electron cyclotron emission spectrum is modified; this may be attributed to a deviation of the electron energy distribution from a Maxwellian and the generation of suprathermal electrons. At low plasma densities, the emission intensity at the second harmonic of the electron gyrofrequency increases, whereas the plasma energy measured by diamagnetic diagnostics does not increase. This poses the question of the correctness of determining the plasma electron temperature by electron cyclotron emission diagnostics under these conditions.  相似文献

Results are presented from the studies of the magnetic implosion of a tungsten wire liner onto an aluminum wire at currents of 2.0–2.6 MA. The experiments were carried out in the S-300 high-power pulsed facility at the Russian Research Centre Kurchatov Institute. The liner is composed of 50 wires 6 μm in diameter and 1 cm in length, which are equally spaced on a circle 1 cm in diameter. An aluminum wire 120 μm in diameter is positioned at the array axis. The liner implosion was accompanied by the generation of VUV and soft X-ray emission. The parameters of the pinch plasma produced during the liner implosion onto the aluminum wire were determined from the time-resolved spectral measurements by a five-channel polychromator. The ion and electron densities turned out to be equal to n i≈4×1019 cm−3 and n e≈4×1020 cm−3, respectively, and the electron temperature was T e≈40 eV. The radiation energy measured in the range 50–600 eV was 2–10 kJ. The sources of soft X-ray emission in hydrogen-and helium-like aluminum lines were the bright spots and local objects (clouds) formed in the plasma corona at an electron temperature of 200–500 eV and electron density of 1021–1022 cm−3. The possibility of both the generation of an axial magnetic field during the liner implosion and the conversion of the energy of this field into soft X-ray emission is discussed. __________ Translated from Fizika Plazmy, Vol. 28, No. 6, 2002, pp. 514–521. The effect of an RF field on a steady-state beam-plasma discharge with a plane electrode placed parallel to a sheetlike electron beam is studied experimentally. The plasma parameters were measured by a single probe, and the electron distribution function was determined with the use of an electrostatic analyzer. The energy and current of the electron beam were E B=2.5 keV and J B=0.05–1.5 A, respectively. The working pressure was p=2×10?5–10?3 torr. The frequency of the external RF field was 13.56 MHz. Both the steady-state regimes in which the RF field had no effect on the plasma parameters and regimes with a pronounced effect of the RF field were observed. The experiments show that the regime of the discharge depends strongly on the plasma density and the magnetic field. The parametric instability is studied theoretically in the weak-turbulence approximation. It is shown that, due to the decay nature of the spectrum of plasma oscillations, the onset of instability is accompanied by the transfer of the energy of fluctuations over the spectrum, from the pump frequency toward its harmonics.  相似文献

Reflection of the heating extraordinary microwave incident obliquely onto the surface of the electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) at the second harmonic of the electron gyrofrequency in the 3D magnetic configuration of the L-2M stellarator was studied experimentally. The plasma was heated using two gyrotrons with a total power of 600–700 kW, the specific heating power being 2.4–2.8 MW/m3. The displacement of the ECR region in the course of heating was monitored by measuring the phase of the reflected extraordinary wave. It is found that the growth of the plasma density is accompanied by the displacement of the ECR heating region from the center of the plasma column toward its periphery. The coefficient of reflection of the heating microwave beam from the ECR region was measured. The spectra of short-wavelength (k s ≈ 30 cm?1) plasma density fluctuations were explored by analyzing backscattered microwave radiation. A tenfold increase in the energy of short-wavelength density fluctuations and the growth of the spectral density of fluctuations in the frequency range of 0.3–1.5 MHz were observed.  相似文献

Results are presented from experimental studies of variations in the plasma parameters during the excitation of a multiaxis magnetic configuration by the induction current (up to 17 kA) in the basic magnetic configuration of the L-2M stellarator in the regime of ECR heating at a microwave power of ~200 kW (~1 MW m?3) and an average plasma density of (1–2) × 1019 m?3. The current direction was chosen to reduce the net rotational transform (the so-called “negative“ current). The current was high enough for the rotational transform to change its sign inside the plasma column. Computer simulations of the L-2M magnetic structure showed that the surface with a zero rotational transform is topologically unstable and gives rise to magnetic islands, i.e., to a multiaxis magnetic configuration. Magnetic measurements showed that, at negative currents above 10 kA, intense bursts of MHD oscillations with a clearly defined toroidal mode number n = 0 were observed in the frequency range of several kilohertz. Unfortunately, the experimental data are insufficient to draw the final conclusion on the transverse structure of these oscillations. The radial temperature profiles along the stellarator major radius in the equatorial plane were studied. It is found that the electron temperature decreases by a factor of 1.3 in the plasma core (r/a ≤ 0.6) and that the temperature jump is retained near the boundary. A change in turbulent fluctuations of the plasma density during the excitation of a negative current was studied using wave scattering diagnostics. It is found that the probability density function of the increments of fluctuations in the plasma core differs from a Gaussian distribution. The measured distribution is heavy-tailed and broadens in the presence of the current. It is found that the spectrum of turbulent fluctuations and their Doppler shift near the plasma boundary are nonuniform in the radial direction. This may be attributed to the shear of the poloidal velocity. The experimental results indicate that the formation of regions with a zero rotational transform in the plasma core somewhat intensifies plasma transport.  相似文献

Backscattering of gyrotron radiation (θ = π) by short-wavelength density fluctuations (k = 30 cm?1) in the plasma of the L-2M stellarator was studied under conditions of electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) plasma heating at the second harmonic of the electron gyrofrequency (75 GHz). The scattering of the O-wave emerging due to the splitting of the linearly polarized gyrotron radiation into the X- and O-waves was analyzed. The signal obtained after homodyne detection of scattered radiation is a result of interference of the reference signal, the quasi-steady component, and the fast oscillating component. The coefficients of reflection of the quasi-steady component, R = 2 (Y), and fast oscillating component, R 2 (Y), of scattered radiation are estimated. The growth of the R 2 (Y) coefficient from 3.7 × 10?4 to 5.2 × 10?4 with increasing ECR heating power from 190 to 430 kW is found to correlate with the decrease in the energy lifetime from 1.9 to 1.46 ms. The relative density of short-wavelength fluctuations is estimated to be 〈n 2 〉/〈n e 2 〉 = 3 × 10?7. It is shown that the frequencies of short-wavelength fluctuations are in the range 10–150 kHz. The recorded short-wavelength fluctuations can be interpreted as structural turbulence, the energy of which comprises ~10% of the total fluctuations energy. Simulations of transport processes show that neoclassical heat fluxes are much smaller than anomalous ones. It is suggested that short-wavelength turbulence plays a decisive role in the anomalous heat transport.  相似文献

Results from experimental studies of bremsstrahlung and characteristic radiation spectra from laser targets irradiated with ultrashort laser pulses with intensities of up to ~1019 W/cm2 are presented. The continuous spectra of hard X-ray emission from Ta and Al targets and the line spectrum of copper were measured. The temperature of fast electrons was obtained from the measured hard X-ray spectra, and the Kα radiation yield from Ta was measured. The energy conversion efficiency of laser radiation into the copper characteristic radiation was obtained from the measured yield of Kα radiation.  相似文献

Changes in the energy spectra of short-wavelength (k s ≈ 35 cm?1) plasma density fluctuations in the local region of the plasma column (r/a = 0.5–0.6) of the L-2M stellarator were studied by the method of collective scattering of 150-GHz radiation. The plasma was heated at the second harmonic of the electron gyrofrequency, the microwave heating power being in the range of 90–170 kW. A sector limiter was introduced in the peripheral plasma (r/a ≥ 0.8), and the Shafranov shift of the magnetic axis was varied by varying the vertical magnetic field. The results of measurements were averaged over 9–16 discharges. It is found that an increase in the heating power and/or the introduction of the sector limiter in the plasma lead to an increase in the energy of density fluctuations, which correlates with a decrease in the plasma energy lifetime. In the spectra of fluctuations, a broad spectral band in the range of 3–50 kHz was observed in which the spectral density was one order of magnitude higher than in the rest of the spectrum. Analysis of the Fourier spectra showed that the introduction of the sector limiter in the plasma resulted in an increase in both the spectral density of fluctuations in the range of 3–50 kHz and the fraction of quasi-coherent structures in turbulent density fluctuations.  相似文献

A plasma confinement mode characterized by the formation of an edge transport barrier (ETB) was discovered in the L-2M stellarator after boronization of the vacuum vessel wall. The transition into this mode is accompanied by a jump in the electron temperature by 100–200 eV at the plasma edge and a sharp increase in the gradient of the electron temperature T e in this region. The threshold power for the transition into the ETB confinement mode with an increased electron temperature gradient is P thr ?Te = (60 ± 15)n e [1019 m?3] kW. The formation of the ETB manifests itself also in a substantial change in the electron density profile. A density peak with a steep gradient at the outer side forms at the plasma edge. The threshold power for the transition into the ETB confinement mode corresponding to a substantial increase in the plasma density gradient near r = a is P thr ?Te = (67 ± 9)n e [1019 m?3] kW, which agrees to within experimental error with the threshold power for the transition into the ETB confinement mode determined from the sharp increase in the gradient of the electron temperature T e . The value of P thr for the L-2M stellarator agrees to within 25% with that obtained from the tokamak scaling. In the ETB confinement mode, the plasma energy W and the energy confinement time τ E determined from diamagnetic measurements increase by 20–30% as compared to those obtained from the stellarator scaling for the confinement mode without an ETB. When the heating power increases by a factor of 2–3 above the threshold value, the effects related to improved energy confinement disappear.  相似文献

In the course of experiments on electron-cyclotron resonance heating of plasma in the L-2M stellarator, it was found that, at high specific heating powers, the SXR spectrum was distorted in the entire photon energy range under study (from 1.5 to 15 keV). To determine the character of this distortion, a procedure was proposed for recovering the electron energy distribution function (EEDF) from soft X-ray (SXR) measurements. The SXR spectra were analyzed for different values of the specific heating power. Numerical calculations show that the edge plasma contributes insignificantly to the chord-averaged SXR spectrum. A conclusion is drawn on the applicability and accuracy of the procedure for recovering the EEDF at high specific heating powers.  相似文献

Abstrac A study is made of the nonlocal nature of the electron energy distribution function in the positive column of a glow discharge in a tube filled with pure oxygen. The distribution function and the axial (E z) and radial (E r) electric fields as functions of radius are measured using an array of mobile probes. The experimentally obtained spatial profiles of the distribution function are used to test the applicability of the two-term approximation to the distribution function of the electrons with a nonlocal energy spectrum. The distribution function in a specified electric field E=E z +E r (where E zE r) is calculated by solving the coordinate-dependent Boltzmann equation in the two-term approximation and by directly integrating the equations of electron motion using the Monte Carlo method. A comparison between the experimental data and the results of simulations carried out for a broad parameter range shows that, in the case of a highly nonlocal electron energy spectrum, the two-term approximation makes it possible to calculate the electron distribution function with a fairly good accuracy, in which case, however, in imposing the boundary conditions, the electron losses at the plasma surface should be treated in the kinetic approximation. It is shown that using the reflection coefficient of the plasma surface for electrons instead of the loss cone in space makes it possible to accurately calculate the electron energy distribution function over the entire parameter range under consideration, including the transient region in which the electron-energy relaxation length is comparable to the characteristic plasma dimension. __________ Translated from Fizika Plazmy, Vol. 26, No. 11, 2000, pp. 1038–1045. The ion distribution function over transverse velocities and the ion heating efficiency (which is defined as the fraction η of ions heated above a certain energy Wmin) are calculated in the context of a plasma method for isotope separation on the basis of ion cyclotron resonance heating. The ion distribution function over longitudinal velocities is assumed to be linear in the range of low velocities. It is shown that, when the ions are heated to high energies, the averaged ion distribution function over transverse velocities becomes highly nonequilibrium and has two peaks. Results are presented from calculations of the ion heating efficiency η for Wmin=40 eV and for different values of the parameter p that characterizes the ratio of the wavelength λ of the antenna electric field to the length L of the heating region. The relative roles of the time-of-flight and the Doppler broadening are analyzed, and the separation parameters of a collector of heated ions are estimated.  相似文献

Taking into account results of numerous experiments, the variability of the energy spectra of cosmic rays (protons and helium nuclei) in the energy range of 10 GeV to ~107 GeV is explained on the basis of a hypothesis of the existence of two variable sources close to the Sun. The first (soft) surfatron source (with a size of ~100 AU) is located at the periphery of the heliosphere. The second (hard) surfatron source (with a size of ~1 pc) is situated in the Local Interstellar Cloud (LIC) at a distance of <1 pc. The constant background is described by a power-law spectrum with a slope of ~2.75. The variable heliospheric surfatron source is described by a power-law spectrum with a variable amplitude, slope, and cutoff energy, the maximum cutoff energy being in the range of E СН/Z < 1000 GeV. The variable surfatron source in the LIC is described by a power-law spectrum with a variable amplitude, slope, and cut-off energy, the maximum cut-off energy being E СL/Z ≤ 3 × 106 GeV. The proposed model is used to approximate data from several experiments performed at close times. The energy of each cosmic-ray component is calculated. The possibility of surfatron acceleration of Fe nuclei (Z = 26) in the LIC up to an energy of E CL ~ 1017 eV and electron and positrons to the “knee” in the energy spectrum is predicted. By numerically solving a system of nonlinear equations describing the interaction between an electromagnetic wave and a charged particle with an energy of up to E/Z ~ 3 × 106 GeV, the possibility of trapping, confinement, and acceleration of charged cosmic-ray particles by a quasi-longitudinal plasma wave is demonstrated.  相似文献

In experiments on the plasma heating and confinement in the GOL-3 multimirror trap, a deuterium plasma with a density of ~1015 cm?3 and an ion temperature of 1–2 keV is confined for more than 1 ms. The plasma is heated by a relativistic electron beam. The ion temperature, which was measured by independent methods, reached 1.5–2 keV after the beginning of the beam injection. Since such a fast ion heating cannot be explained by the classical energy transfer from electrons to ions through binary collisions, a theoretical model of collective energy transfer was proposed. In order to verify this model, a new diagnostics was designed to study the dynamics of neutron emission from an individual mirror cell of the multimirror trap during electron beam injection. Intense neutron bursts predicted by this model were detected experimentally. Periodic neutron flux modulation caused by the macroscopic plasma flow along the solenoid was observed. The revealed mechanism of fast ion heating can be used to achieve fusion temperatures in the multimirror trap.  相似文献

In experiments on lower hybrid current drive (LHCD) carried out at the FT-2 tokamak, a substantial increase in the central electron temperature T e (r = 0 cm) from 550 to 700 eV was observed. A complex simulation procedure is used to explain a fairly high LHCD efficiency and the observed additional heating, which can be attributed to a transition into the improved core confinement (ICC) mode. For numerical simulations, data obtained in experiments with deuterium plasma at 〈n e 〉 = 1.6 × 1019 m–3 were used. Simulations by the GRILL3D, FRTC, and ASTRA codes have shown that the increase in the density and central temperature is apparently caused by a significant suppression of heat transport in the electron component. The mechanism for transition into the improved confinement mode at r < 3 cm can be associated with the broadening of the plasma current channel due to the lower hybrid drive of the current carried by superthermal and runaway electrons. In this case, the magnetic shear s = (r/q)(dq/dr) in the axial region of the plasma column almost vanishes during the RF pulse. In this study, the effect of lower hybrid waves on the plasma parameters, resulting in a transition into the ICC mode, is considered. New experimental and calculated data are presented that evidence in favor of such a transition. Special attention is paid to the existence of a threshold for the transition into the ICC mode in deuterium plasma.  相似文献

A rapid heating of nitrogen-oxygen mixtures excited by gas discharges is investigated numerically with allowance for the following main processes: the reactions of predissociation of highly excited electronic states of oxygen molecules (which are populated via electron impact or via the quenching of the excited states of N2 molecules), the reactions of quenching of the excited atoms O(1 D) by nitrogen molecules, the VT relaxation reactions, etc. The calculated results adequately describe available experimental data on the dynamics of air heating in gas-discharge plasmas. It is shown that, over a broad range of values of the reduced electric field E/N, gas heating is maintained by a fixed fraction of the discharge power that is expended on the excitation of the electronic degrees of freedom of molecules (for discharges in air, ηE?28%). The lower the oxygen content of the mixture, the smaller the quantity ηE. The question of a rapid heating of nitrogen with a small admixture of oxygen is discussed.  相似文献

Reflection and backscattering of high-power (400 kW) gyrotron radiation creating and heating plasma at the second harmonic of the electronic cyclotron frequency in the L-2M stellarator have been investigated experimentally. The effect of the displacement of the gyroresonance region from the axis of the plasma column under doubling of the plasma density on the processes of reflection and backscattering of microwave radiation has been examined. A near doubling of short-wavelength (k ≈ 30 cm–1) turbulent density fluctuations squared is observed. The change in the energy confinement time under variations of plasma parameters and characteristics of short-wavelength turbulence is discussed. A discrepancy between the measured values of the reflection coefficient from the electron cyclotron resonance heating region and predictions of the one-dimensional model is revealed.  相似文献

The development of a preformed constriction in cylindrical agar-agar loads at currents of up to 3 MA is studied experimentally. The loads 3–5 mm in diameter have a mass density of 0.1 g/cm3 and are filled with different materials. Due to the implosion of the constriction to a minimum size of 40–70 μm, a hot dense plasma (with the electron density n e=1022 cm−3, electron temperature T e=0.8–1.5 keV, and ion temperature T i=3–12 keV) is produced. It is found that the ion temperature substantially exceeds the electron temperature. The lifetime of the high-temperature plasma determined from the FWHM of a soft X radiation (SXR) pulse is shorter than 5 ns, the radiation power of photons with energies of ≥1 keV is higher than 0.5×1010 W, and their total energy attains 50 J. High-speed photography in the VUV, SXR, and optical spectral regions indicates the protracted generation of the high-temperature plasma. Calculations by the two-dimensional ideal MHD model of the Z-pinch show that the most important consequence of the protracted plasma generation in the constriction region is that the current is intercepted by a freshly produced plasma. In the course of plasma generation, the current near the axis inside the region of radius 50 μm is at most one-half of the total current. After the plasma generation comes to an end, almost the entire current is concentrated in this region for several nanoseconds; this process is accompanied by a sharp increase in the plasma temperature. __________ Translated from Fizika Plazmy, Vol. 27, No. 12, 2001, pp. 1101–1110. Absorption changes accompanying light-induced P-700 oxidation and the decay of P-700+ in the dark were measured in the temperature range 294-5 K over a broad time scale (three to four orders of magnitude). Two qualitatively different types of kinetics for the dark decay of P-700+ were observed. In the 294-240K region, a usual exponential kinetics is observed with the rate constant κ = 1 · 1010 · exp(-16 000/RT) s?1, with R in cal/mol per degree. Below 220 K, a rather unusual logarithmic or near-logarithmic kinetics are observed. These kinetics can be explained quantitatively if one assumes for the various (P-700+ ··· X-) pairs a broad rectangular or near-rectangular distribution over the values of the rate constant. The following kinetic equation corresponding to this model was obtained: nt/no = [In(κmax/κmin)]-1 - [In(1/κmin)? In t] where no and nt are respectively the initial concentration of P-700+ and its concentration at time t, and kmax and kmin the maximum and minimum values of the rate constant, respectively. The decay processes observed can be ascribed to electron tunneling. Distribution over the values of k can be accounted for by different environments or different mutual orientations of P-700+ and X?, or by different distances between them in the various reacting pairs. The corresponding distribution function was reconstructed from the experimentally measured P-700+-decay curves. The rate of tunneling was found to be temperature dependent. In the 160-80-K region, the temperature dependence corresponds to an activation energy of 2.9 kcal/mol. Below 80 K, new modes of P-700+ decay with lower activation energy become operative. The tunneling distance for the majority of the (P-700+ ··· X?) pairs was estimated from the EPR linewidth of P-700+ to exceed 13.2 A.  相似文献

Results are presented from studies of the optical characteristics and parameters of plasma of a dielectric barrier discharge in a mixture of mercury dibromide vapor with neon—the working medium of a non-coaxial exciplex gas-discharge emitter. The electron energy distribution function, the transport characteristics, the specific power losses for electron processes, the electron density and temperature, and the rate constants for the processes of elastic and inelastic electron scattering by the working mixture components are determined as functions of the reduced electric field. The rate constant of the process leading to the formation of exciplex mercury monobromide molecules is found to be 1.6 × 10?14 m3/s for a reduced electric field of E/N = 15 Td, at which the maximum emission intensity in the blue-green spectral region (λmax = 502 nm) was observed in this experiment.  相似文献
