Responses of cattle to allergens from Boophilus microplus   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Extracts of larvae of the cattle tick, Boophilus microplus, contain two allergens giving immediate hypersensitivity reactions in the skin of cattle which have been exposed to the tick. The partial purification of one of these is described. This, together with the other allergen whose purification has been described previously, was used to investigate the relationships between tick resistance, immediate hypersensitivity reactions, reaginic antibody levels as measured by Prausnitz-Küstner type reactions and serum levels of agglutinating antibody to one of the allergens. There were significant correlations between resistance and both the immediate hypersensitivity reactions and agglutinating antibody levels.  相似文献

The objective of this work was to verify the sensitivity of Amblyomma cajennense and Dermacentor nitens larvae to the solvents ethanol, methanol, acetone, xylol and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and the surfactant Tween 80. The first four solvents were tested at analytical purity while the DMSO and surfactant Tween 80 were tested at a concentration of 1%. The substances tested at analytical purity that caused high mortality were also tested at concentrations of 50%, 25% and 1%. The larval packet test was used, with 10 repetitions for each treatment. A control group was also formed with the same number of repetitions, in which the larvae were only exposed to distilled water. In the first experiment, only xylol was highly toxic at the concentrations tested, causing mortality above 90% for larvae of both species. In the second experiment, xylol at 1% and at 25% showed low toxicity to the A. cajennense and D. nitens larvae, respectively, since the percentage mortality was statistically similar to that of the control group (p>0.05).  相似文献

The population dynamics of all stages of the Cayenne tick, Amblyomma cajennense (Fabricius) (Acari: Ixodidae) on horses was evaluated over a period of 2 years in the district of Pedro Leopoldo, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Every 14 days, the left side of 20 horses was brushed for collection of immature stages; counts of adults were also undertaken. Infestation by larvae was detected from April to August, whereas nymphs were observed from June to October. Infestation by adults was detected throughout the year, and the highest population density occurred from September to March. The number of males was always higher than the number of females, but with considerable reduction in the male : female ratio between April and July. It was observed that 25% of the horses carried 41% of the infesting ticks, and 20% carried only 10% of the ticks during the entire period of the study.  相似文献

Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus is an economically important ectoparasite of cattle. Chemical acaricides remain the most practical method for control of these pests. During past two decades there have been increasing reports of resistance development against synthetic pyrethroids in tick populations of this species throughout the world. A study was conducted to determine the level of susceptibility of R. (B.) microplus to deltamethrin collected from different geographical locations of northern India. LPT bioassay results revealed LC(50) values of deltamethrin ranging from 0.035 to 0.00037?% A.I. Esterase profile of the tick larval extracts using native PAGE, revealed 5 bands of esterase activity designated EST-5 to EST-1A. Inhibitory tests recognized EST-1, EST-2 and EST-3 as Acetylcholinesterases (AchEs), EST-4 and EST-5 as Carboxylesterases (CaEs). The band intensity varied between tick populations of various locations, being more intense in case of the resistant populations. An extra band of esterase activity (EST-1A) was obtained in larval extracts of ticks from 3 locations. This increased esterase activity may be involved in the resistance development in these tick populations. Acaricide resistance is a multi-factorial phenomenon, thus other causes of increased resistance like sodium channel mutation and reduced drug penetration (e.g. cuticle thickening) and behavioural changes (e.g. avoiding the pesticides) are to be tested in future in order to confirm the basic cause of the resistance development in these acaricide resistant tick populations.  相似文献

Boophilus ticks (n = 25,987) were collected from cattle at 30 communal dip tanks and five commercial farms in the Soutpansberg region, Limpopo Province, South Africa, between May 1999 and December 2001. Only 6.6% were Boophilus decoloratus, while 93.4% were Boophilus microplus, a tick that had not been reported from this area previously. B. microplus was the most common Boophilus tick on communal dip tank cattle, while B. decoloratus was more commonly found on commercial farms. Where the two species occurred together, B. microplus tended to displace B. decoloratus. The displacement was almost complete at the communal dip tanks, while on the commercial farms the population change was still in progress at the end of the survey. The present study demonstrated that a postulated reproductive interference was insufficient in preventing B. microplus from spreading when the climatic conditions were favourable to this species, as the displacement in most of the areas appeared to be rapid and complete.  相似文献

The acaricide susceptibility of seven strains of Cheyletus eruditus, originating from field populations of different sources, such as grain stores, a chaff pile and pheasant fodders, was compared with that of two laboratory strains. The strain least susceptible to all the organophosphates tested was the one that survived fumigation by PH3. The laboratory strains and a strain from Denmark were the most susceptible. The use of the population of C. eruditus with the lowest susceptibility to organophosphates is desired in the management of acaroid mites. It is intended that mites of this strain will be mass reared and used for dissemination in grain stores for the biological control of acaroid mites.  相似文献

This study addresses three questions related to the immune response of cattle to tick salivary gland extracts. Firstly, is there a difference in the inhibition of proliferation of Concanavalin A (ConA) stimulated bovine lymphocytes induced by salivary gland extracts of the N and Y strains of Boophilus microplus? Second, is there a difference in the development rate of the Y and N tick strains? Third, does the host affect the inhibitory effect of salivary gland extract on the proliferation of ConA stimulated lymphocytes from the two tick strains? Salivary gland extract of the Y strain inhibited in vitro proliferation of lymphocytes stimulated by ConA significantly more than that of the N strain, when each strain was raised on different animals. A difference in the development rate was observed between the tick strains when raised on the same animal, with female ticks of the Y strain developing faster and reaching a greater fully engorged weight than ticks of the N strain. The difference in their rate of development did not appear to contribute to a difference in inhibitory effects of the salivary gland extracts and there was no difference between the inhibitory effects of salivary gland extracts from both strains. However, when Y strain ticks were raised on different animals, there was a significant difference in the inhibition of lymphocyte proliferation between the two salivary gland extracts. Therefore, it was concluded that there is no difference between the inhibitory effects of the two tick strains and that the host has an influence on salivary gland extract composition of B. microplus and its inhibitive properties.  相似文献

Entomopathogenous nematodes are well known biocontrol agents of insects. They live in the superficial layer of the soil, a location where ticks accomplish their molt and where they oviposit their eggs, making them, theoretically, the preys of infective larvae of nematodes. Seventeen strains of entomopathogenous nematodes: eight strains of Steinernema and nine strains of Heterorhabditis were placed in contact with each of the free living stages of three tick species: Amblyomma variegatum, Boophilus microplus and B. annulatus. The first two species were resistant to all the nematode strains that were tested, whereas B. annulatus was susceptible to all of them. Ovipositing females were more susceptible than females during the preoviposition period. There were no anatomical differences between the two species of Boophilus which can account for such differences in their susceptibility. The use of nematodes to control some species of ticks should be considered.  相似文献

Summary Salivary of the ixodid tick Boophilus microplus Canestrini are at least partially innervated by a branch of the pedipalpal nerve. Axons containing both large granular and smaller agranular vesicles were observed within the acini associated with all types of secretory cells. A modification of the Falk-Hillarp histochemical technique was used to demonstrate discrete areas of fluorescence within the salivary acini. It is suggested that the transmitter involved with the control of salivary activities is a catecholamine and may even be dopamine.This work formed part of a thesis submitted to the University of Cambridge for the degree of Ph.D. and was supported by a studentship from the Science Research Council.
