The purpose of this study was to determine if high-dose glutamine ingestion affected weightlifting performance. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover study, 6 resistance-trained men (mean +/- SE: age, 21.5 +/- 0.3 years; weight, 76.5 +/- 2.8 kg(-1)) performed weightlifting exercises after the ingestion of glutamine or glycine (0.3 g x kg(-1)) mixed with calorie-free fruit juice or placebo (calorie-free fruit juice only). Each subject underwent each of the 3 treatments in a randomized order. One hour after ingestion, subjects performed 4 total sets of exercise to momentary muscular failure (2 sets of leg presses at 200% of body weight, 2 sets of bench presses at 100% of body weight). There were no differences in the average number of maximal repetitions performed in the leg press or bench press exercises among the 3 groups. These data indicate that the short-term ingestion of glutamine does not enhance weightlifting performance in resistance-trained men.  相似文献

Serum leptin responses after acute resistance exercise protocols.   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
This study examined the acute effects of maximum strength (MS), muscular hypertrophy (MH), and strength endurance (SE) resistance exercise protocols on serum leptin. Ten young lean men (age = 23 +/- 4 yr; body weight = 79.6 +/- 5.2 kg; body fat = 10.2 +/- 3.9%) participated in MS [4 sets x 5 repetitions (reps) at 88% of 1 repetition maximum (1 RM) with 3 min of rest between sets], MH (4 sets x 10 reps at 75% of 1 RM with 2 min of rest between sets), SE (4 sets x 15 reps at 60% of 1 RM with 1 min of rest between sets), and control (C) sessions. Blood samples were collected before and immediately after exercise and after 30 min of recovery. Serum leptin at 30 min of recovery exhibited similar reductions from baseline after the MS (-20 +/- 5%), MH (-20 +/- 4%), and SE (-15 +/- 6%) protocols that were comparable to fasting-induced reduction in the C session (-12 +/- 3%) (P < 0.05). Furthermore, no differences were found in serum leptin among the MS, MH, SE, and C sessions immediately after exercise and at 30 min of recovery (P > 0.05). Cortisol was higher (P < 0.05) after the MH and SE protocols than after the MS and C sessions. Glucose and growth hormone were higher (P < 0.05) after exercise in the MS, MH, and SE protocols than after the C session. In conclusion, typical resistance exercise protocols designed for development of MS, MH, and SE did not result in serum leptin changes when sampled immediately or 30 min postexercise.  相似文献

The present investigation was undertaken to determine the content of ACTH, glucose and lactate in plasma of 4 pigs (body weight 82--118 kg) during a circadian period and during an insulin hypoglycemia test using 1 IU/kg in 3 pigs (body weight 96--118 kg) and 4 pigs (body weight 20--30 kg). The plasma ACTH level at rest was 57 +/- 27 pg/ml (Mean +/- SE) for all samples in all animals during a circadian period. Significant diurnal changes were not observed. During insulin-induced hypoglycaemia plasma ACTH rose from a mean (+/- SE) basal level of 35 +/- 15 to a maximum of 673 +/- 100 pg/ml at 60 min in heavier pigs and in lighter pigs to 395 +/- 153 at 30 min and 403 +/- 145 pg/ml at 120 min. Initial ACTH responses were evident 30 min (heavier pigs) and between 0 and 15 min (lighter pigs) after insulin administration. Plasma glucose decreased from a mean (+/- SE) basal level of 80 +/- 10 to a minimum of 6 +/- 1 mg/100 ml at 60 min (heavier pigs) and from 88 +/- 3 to 16 +/- 4 mg/100 ml at 60 min (lighter pigs). After its minimum level the glucose concentration showed a slower increment in the heavier pigs as compared to lighter animals. Plasma lactate rose from a mean (+/- SE) basal level of 19 +/- 10 to a maximum of 76 +/- 42 mg/100 ml at 120 min (heavier pigs) and from 12 +/- 3 to 37 +/- 16 mg/100 ml at 150 min (lighter group). In accordance with the changes in the blood plasma levels of ACTH, glucose and lactate, the clinical symptoms of hypoglycaemia in heavier pigs were more intensive.  相似文献

Patients with anorexia nervosa occasionally suffer from hypoglycemic comas. We investigated the role of human pancreatic polypeptide (HPP) in insulin-induced hypoglycemia (0.1 U/kg of regular insulin). Ten female patients with anorexia nervosa (20.7 +/- 2.0 years, mean +/- SEM; 34.9 +/- 1.7 kg, mean +/- SEM) and 8 age-matched female controls (20.9 +/- 0.6 years, 51.5 +/- 0.8 kg) were tested. In the patients with anorexia nervosa, testing was performed before and after the restoration of body weight (45.0 +/- 0.8 kg). There was no significant difference in glucose nadir between patients with anorexia nervosa and the control subjects. However, glucose recovery from nadir was delayed in patients with anorexia nervosa. In anorexia nervosa patients, the plasma pancreatic glucagon responses to insulin-induced hypoglycemia did not differ from those of the controls. Results also showed, however, that HPP responses to insulin-induced hypoglycemia were significantly higher in patients with anorexia nervosa than in controls (p less than 0.01). The increased HPP responses were still present after the restoration of body weight in anorexia nervosa patients. A complete body weight recovery or a longer period of time may be required to normalize the HPP response to insulin-induced hypoglycemia in patients with anorexia nervosa, after the restoration of body weight.  相似文献

Effect of body orientation on regional lung expansion in dog and sloth   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
Recent studies (E.A. Hoffman, J. Appl. Physiol. 59: 468-480, 1985) using fast multisliced X-ray computed tomography have demonstrated a ventral-dorsal gradient of fractional lung air content (3.29% air/cm lung height) in supine dogs and an essentially uniform ventral-dorsal air content distribution in the prone dogs [mean = 66 +/- 0.6% (SE) air content]. Since the prone orientation is the dog's normal body posture, we sought to study an animal whose normal body posture was "opposite" to that of the dog. Four two-toed sloths were scanned in the Dynamic Spatial Reconstructor in the prone and supine postures. A supine fractional air content gradient was demonstrated with a regression equation of y = 2.09x + 74.3 (r = 0.92), where y is percent air content and x is vertical height in the lung, and ventral-dorsal air content distribution in the prone posture was uniform with a mean of 85 +/- 0.4% (SE) air content. The low functional residual capacity lung density in the sloth was attributable to unusually large alveoli. The mean heart volume-to-body weight ratio in the dogs was 16.4 +/- 0.6 (SE) ml/kg and that in the sloth was 7.3 +/- 0.4 (SE) ml/kg. Mean lung volume-to-body weight ratios for dogs and sloths were 57 +/- 7 (SE) and 89 +/- 6 ml/kg, respectively. Of particular interest was the fact that large changes in prone vs. supine rib cage and diaphragm geometry previously found in dogs did not occur in sloths, though significant alterations of ventral and dorsal lung geometry prone vs. supine were demonstrated, and lung shape changes in both dog and sloth are attributable to shifts in the intrathoracic position of mediastinal structures.  相似文献

Weight gain is common among postobese individuals, providing an opportunity to address the cost of weight regain on energy expenditure. We investigated the energy cost of weight regain over 1 yr in 28 women [age 39.5 +/- 1.3 (SE) yr; body mass index 24.2 +/- 0.5 kg/m(2)] with recent weight loss (>12 kg). Body composition, total energy expenditure (TEE) using doubly labeled water, resting metabolic rate (RMR), and thermic effect of a meal (TEM) were assessed at 0 and 12 mo. Metabolizable energy intake (MEI) was calculated from TEE and change in body composition. Fourteen women had a weight gain of 13.2 +/- 2.1 kg. Twelve-month cumulative excess MEI, calculated as the intake in excess of TEE at month 0, was 749 +/- 149 MJ. Of this, 462 +/- 83 MJ (62%) were stored as accrued tissue, and 287 +/- 72 MJ (38%) was increased TEE. Expressed per kilogram of body weight gain, the energy cost of weight gain was calculated to be 54.8 +/- 4.6 MJ/kg. Interestingly, weight regain time courses fell into three distinct patterns, possibly requiring varying countermeasures.  相似文献

This study compared the two following hydrodensitometric methods for estimating percent body fat (%BF): 1) estimation of residual volume (RV) by helium dilution before and after measurement of immersed mass at RV, and 2) determination of immersed mass at a comfortable level of expiration (approximately functional residual capacity) with measurement of the associated gas volume by oxygen dilution. Twelve men [27.9 +/- 7.5 (SD) yr; 79.32 +/- 12.79 kg; 180.5 +/- 9.9 cm] were tested for %BF via both methods on each of two separate visits within 3 days by using a counterbalanced design. The two helium dilution measurements yielded a technical error of measurement of 0.2% BF and an intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.999. Corresponding values for the oxygen dilution method were 0.4% BF and 0.999, respectively. There was no difference (P = 0.80) between the helium dilution (16.9 +/- 9.3% BF) and oxygen dilution (16.9 +/- 9.4% BF) methods, and the individual differences ranged from -0.7 to 0.6% BF. The interclass correlation coefficient between the two methods was 0.999 with a SE of estimate of 0.4% BF. Whereas both methods were precise and reliable and yielded similar results, the oxygen dilution technique was more expedient and was preferred by the subjects because they were not required to exhale to RV.  相似文献

将72尾杂交罗非鱼分别养在12个水槽内,每个水槽内养6尾大小不同的鱼(A、B、C、D、E、F),其中鱼A的初始体重为62.69±1.46g,B为56.48±1.30g,C为50.75±1.19g,D为35.56±1.18g,E为31.05±0.88g,F为27。35±0.95g(平均值±标准误).在4周实验中,实验鱼分别被停食或每天按体重1.5%、3.0%和饱食水平投喂.鱼的特定生长率(SGR)和食物效率(FE)先随食物水平增加而增加,当食物水平超过鱼体重的3.0%后,继续增加投喂量,SGR不再升高而FE明显下降.按体重1.5%投喂的鱼SGR和终体重个体间变异较大.对鱼A而言,食物水平超过体重1.5%后对其SGR无显著影响,但对鱼F而言,食物水平对SGR影响较大.结果表明,杂交罗非鱼的生长和个体生长分化与食物条件和初始体重有关,当食物水平超过体重的3.0%后,鱼的SGR较高,个体生长分化相对较轻.  相似文献

By analyzing data from 68 hypothyroid patients ranging in age from 15 to 75 years who had been maintained in a euthyroid state for at least a year with oral levothyroxine sodium therapy, we attempted to determine whether there was a correlation between L-thyroxine dose and body weight or patient age. The mean replacement dose of L-thyroxine was 186 mug a day +/-69.6 or 2.76 mug per kg of body weight a day +/-0.82. There was a significant correlation between L-thyroxine dose and body weight (P<.001), but due to the small number of patients studied who were older than 65 years of age, no correlation was noted between L-thyroxine dose and age.  相似文献

Insulin resistance is currently a major health problem. This may be because of a marked decrease in daily physical activity during recent decades combined with constant food abundance. This lifestyle collides with our genome, which was most likely selected in the late Paleolithic era (50,000-10,000 BC) by criteria that favored survival in an environment characterized by fluctuations between periods of feast and famine. The theory of thrifty genes states that these fluctuations are required for optimal metabolic function. We mimicked the fluctuations in eight healthy young men [25.0 +/- 0.1 yr (mean +/- SE); body mass index: 25.7 +/- 0.4 kg/m(2)] by subjecting them to intermittent fasting every second day for 20 h for 15 days. Euglycemic hyperinsulinemic (40 mU.min(-1).m(-2)) clamps were performed before and after the intervention period. Subjects maintained body weight (86.4 +/- 2.3 kg; coefficient of variation: 0.8 +/- 0.1%). Plasma free fatty acid and beta-hydroxybutyrate concentrations were 347 +/- 18 and 0.06 +/- 0.02 mM, respectively, after overnight fast but increased (P < 0.05) to 423 +/- 86 and 0.10 +/- 0.04 mM after 20-h fasting, confirming that the subjects were fasting. Insulin-mediated whole body glucose uptake rates increased from 6.3 +/- 0.6 to 7.3 +/- 0.3 mg.kg(-1).min(-1) (P = 0.03), and insulin-induced inhibition of adipose tissue lipolysis was more prominent after than before the intervention (P = 0.05). After the 20-h fasting periods, plasma adiponectin was increased compared with the basal levels before and after the intervention (5,922 +/- 991 vs. 3,860 +/- 784 ng/ml, P = 0.02). This experiment is the first in humans to show that intermittent fasting increases insulin-mediated glucose uptake rates, and the findings are compatible with the thrifty gene concept.  相似文献

We have studied the effect of alveolar hypoxia on fluid filtration characteristics of the pulmonary microcirculation in an in situ left upper lobe preparation with near static flow conditions (20 ml/min). In six dogs (group 1), rate of edema formation (delta W/delta t, where W is weight and t is time) was assessed over a wide range of vascular pressures under two inspired O2 fraction (FIO2) conditions (0.95 and 0.0 with 5% CO2-balance N2 in both cases). delta W/delta t was plotted against vascular pressure, and the best-fit linear regression was obtained. There was no significant difference (paired t test) in either threshold pressure for edema formation [18.3 +/- 1.8 and 17.1 +/- 1.2 (SE) mmHg, respectively] or the slopes (0.067 +/- 0.008 and 0.073 +/- 0.017 g.min-1. mmHg-1.100g-1, respectively). In another seven dogs (group 2), delta W/delta t was obtained at a constant vascular pressure of 40 mmHg under four FIO2 conditions (0.95, 0.21, 0.05, and 0.0, with 5% CO2-balance N2). Delta W/delta t for the four conditions averaged 0.60 +/- 0.11, 0.61 +/- 0.11, 0.61 +/- 0.10, and 0.61 +/- 0.10 (SE) g.min-1.mmHg-1.100g-1, respectively. No significant differences (ANOVA for repeated measures) were noted. We conclude that alveolar hypoxia does not alter the threshold for edema formation or delta W/delta t at a given microvascular pressure.  相似文献

In this study, the authors investigated the physiologic effects of the altered body composition that results from surgical removal of large amounts of subcutaneous adipose tissue. Fourteen women with body mass indexes of greater than > 27 kg/m2 underwent measurements of fasting plasma insulin, triglycerides, cholesterol, body composition by dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA), resting energy expenditure, and blood pressure before and after undergoing large-volume ultrasound-assisted liposuction.There were no significant intraoperative complications. Body weight had decreased by 5.1 kg (p < 0.0001) by 6 weeks after liposuction, with an additional 1.3-kg weight loss (p < 0.05) observed between 6 weeks and 4 months after surgery, for a total weight loss of 6.5 kg (p < 0.00006). Body mass index decreased from (mean +/- SEM) 28.8 +/- 2.3 to 26.8 +/- 1.5 kg/m2 (p < 0.0001). This change in body weight was primarily the result of decreases in body fat mass: as assessed by DXA, lean body mass did not change (43.8 +/- 3.1 kg to 43.4 +/- 3.6 kg, p = 0.80), whereas DXA total body fat mass decreased from 35.7 +/- 6.3 to 30.1 +/- 6.5 kg (p < 0.0001). There were significant decreases in fasting plasma insulin levels (14.9 +/- 6.5 mIU/ml before liposuction versus 7.2 +/- 3.2 mIU/ml 4 months after liposuction, p < 0.007), and systolic blood pressure (132.1 +/- 7.2 versus 120.5 +/- 7.8 mmHg, p < 0.0002). Total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, plasma triglycerides, and resting energy expenditure values were not significantly altered after liposuction.In conclusion, over a 4-month period, large-volume liposuction decreased weight, body fat mass, systolic blood pressure, and fasting insulin levels without detrimental effects on lean body mass, bone mass, resting energy expenditure, or lipid profiles. Should these improvements be maintained over time, liposuction may prove to be a valuable tool for reducing the comorbid conditions associated with obesity.  相似文献

The effect of lung inflation on chest wall mechanics was studied in 11 vagotomized pentobarbital sodium-anesthetized dogs. Diaphragmatic shortening (percent change from initial length at functional residual capacity, %LFRC) and transdiaphragmatic pressure swings (delta Pdi) were compared with control values over a range of positive-pressure breathing that produced a maximum increase in lung volume to 40% of inspiratory capacity. There was no change in the electromyogram of the diaphragm or parasternal intercostals during positive-pressure breathing. delta Pdi and tidal volume (VT) fell to 52 +/- 3.3 and 42.5 +/- 5% (SE) of control. This was associated with a reduction in the initial resting length of 13 +/- 1.9 and 21 +/- 2.2%LFRC (SE) in the costal and crural diaphragms, respectively. Tidal diaphragmatic shortening, however, decreased to 66 +/- 7 and 57 +/- 7 and the mean velocity decreased to 78 +/- 10 and 63 +/- 8% (SE) of control for the costal and crural diaphragms, respectively. We conclude that the reduction in diaphragmatic shortening is the main determinant of the reduced delta Pdi and VT during lung inflation and relate this to what is currently known about diaphragmatic contractile properties.  相似文献

A prospective, randomized study was designed to compare the outcome of inferior pedicle/Wise pattern reduction (group I) with medial pedicle/vertical pattern reduction (group II) in moderate resections averaging 500 g per breast. There were 105 women in group I and 103 women in group II. All surgical procedures were performed by the same plastic surgeon. Patient information recorded included age, body mass index, type of surgery, weight of specimen, need for surgical revision, and complications. Six months postoperatively the patients were asked to complete a questionnaire, which rated their satisfaction with the surgical outcome. The questionnaire used a 10-point response format ranging from very disappointed (score of 1) to very pleased (score of 10). The results demonstrated that there was no significant difference between the groups in age (31 +/- 12 versus 29 +/- 13 years), body mass index (26 +/- 4 versus 27 +/- 5), and amount of tissue excised (553 +/- 203 g versus 548 +/- 205 g). Group I required no surgical revisions, but in group II revisions for dog-ears were required in 11 percent. The rate of other complications was similar in both groups. Patients' evaluations of breast size, shape, symmetry, nipple sensation, symptom relief, ease of brassiere/clothing fitting, and overall satisfaction were not significantly different. The vertical mammaplasty was ranked significantly (p < 0.05) higher by patients in regard to scars (6 +/- 2 versus 3 +/- 3) and overall aesthetic results (8 +/- 1 versus 6 +/- 3). In the management of moderate macromastia, this study indicates that patients who have a vertical reduction are less disappointed with the scars but require a significantly higher rate of surgical revisions compared with patients who have a Wise pattern reduction.  相似文献

We previously demonstrated that, in awake goats, 6 h of hypoxic carotid body perfusion during systemic normoxia produced time-dependent hyperventilation that is typical of ventilatory acclimatization to hypoxia (VAH). The hypocapnic alkalosis that occurred could have produced VAH by inducing cerebral vasoconstriction and brain lactic acidosis even though systemic arterial normoxia was maintained. In the present study we tested the hypothesis that hypocapnic alkalosis is a necessary component of VAH. Goats were prepared so that one carotid body could be perfused, from an extracorporeal circuit, with blood in which gas tensions could be controlled independently from the blood perfusing the systemic arterial system, including the brain. Using this preparation we carried out 4 h of hypoxic carotid body perfusion while maintaining systemic arterial (and brain) normoxia in awake goats. Expired minute ventilation (VE) was measured while CO2 was added to inspired air to maintain normocapnia. Carotid body PCO2 and PO2 were maintained near 40 Torr during the 4-h carotid body perfusion. Control mean VE was 8.65 +/- 0.48 l/min (mean +/- SE). With acute carotid body hypoxia (30 min) VE increased to 21.73 +/- 2.02 l/min (P less than 0.05); over the ensuing 3.5 h of carotid body hypoxia, VE progressively increased to 39.14 +/- 4.14 l/min (P less than 0.05). These data indicate that neither cerebral hypoxia nor hypocapnic alkalosis are required to produce VAH. After termination of the 4-h carotid body stimulation, hyperventilation was not maintained in these studies, i.e., there was no deacclimatization. This suggests that acclimatization and deacclimatization are produced by different mechanisms.  相似文献

Renal function including fluid and electrolyte balance was studied during recovery in eight subjects who developed symptomatic hyponatremia (HN; plasma sodium concentration less than 130 mM) during an 88-km ultramarathon footrace and compared with results for normonatremic runners [NN; n = 18, mean postrace plasma sodium concentration, 138.2 +/- 1.2 (SE) mM]. Estimated fluid intake during the race for HN was 12.5 +/- 1.6 (SE) liters over 9 h 41 min (+/- 28 min). HN excreted a net fluid excess of 2.95 +/- 0.56 (range 1.2-5.9) liters compared with a fluid deficit of 2.7 +/- 0.3% body weight in NN. The sodium deficit was 153 +/- 35 mmol in HN and 187 +/- 37 mmol in NN. Despite the fluid overload, plasma volume was decreased by 24.1 +/- 5.0% in HN compared with 8.2 +/- 2.6% in NN. Serum renin activity (5.1 +/- 2.0 ng.ml-1.h-1), aldosterone concentrations (410 +/- 34 ng/l), creatinine clearances (174.8 +/- 28.2 ml/min), and urine output (6.4 +/- 1.0 ml/min) were markedly elevated in HN during recovery. Thus the hyponatremia of exercise results from fluid retention in subjects who ingest abnormally large fluid volumes during prolonged exercise.  相似文献

The purpose of the present investigation was to examine the effects of a collegiate wrestling season on body weight, hydration, and muscular performance. Twelve Division I collegiate wrestlers (mean +/- SE; 20.75 +/- 0.41 year) volunteered to participate in testing sessions during midseason and 3 weeks following the season. Testing consisted of weigh-in, providing a urine sample for hydration analysis, and a measure of isometric leg extension peak torque. Weight significantly increased (p < 0.05) following the completion of the competitive season. No significant change in urine specific gravity (p > 0.05) was observed. Muscular performance was affected by the season as peak torque (PT) and PT-to-body weight ratio increased significantly (p < 0.05). Following the collegiate wrestling season, augmentation in body weight and muscular performance of the wrestlers occurs without alterations in hydration status. Further research is warranted on what type of strength training program would most effectively reduce the decrements in strength associated with weight loss and the strain of a competitive season.  相似文献

The objectives of the present study were to determine whether an intracisternal injection of fibrinogen-sodium citrate, a model of neurogenic pulmonary edema (NPE), produces protein-rich or protein-poor pulmonary edema, and to determine whether the edema is associated with pulmonary vascular hypertension and pulmonary congestion. Fibrinogen (6-10 mg/ml) dissolved in 0.055 M sodium citrate was injected into the cisterna magna of six New Zealand White rabbits. Six additional rabbits were injected with saline to control for the effects of intracranial hypertension and pulmonary vascular hypertension. The fibrinogen-sodium citrate solution or sodium citrate alone, as opposed to saline, produced systemic and pulmonary vascular hypertension, pulmonary edema, hypoxemia, hypercapnia, and acidosis. The lungs from fibrinogen-injected rabbits were edematous, congested, and liverlike in appearance. Tracheal froth that was blood tinged and protein rich was present in five of the six rabbits. Microscopic examination of lung biopsies revealed erythrocytes and plasma in the alveoli and focal injury to the pulmonary microvascular endothelium. Fibrinogen-sodium citrate increased (P less than 0.05) the extravascular lung water (EVLW) (10.3 +/- 2.0 vs. 5.5 +/- 0.6 g, means +/- SE), lung blood weight (9.7 +/- 1.3 vs. 3.8 +/- 0.6 g), total dry lung weight (3.2 +/- 0.4 vs. 2.0 +/- 0.1 g), and the EVLW-to-blood-free dry lung weight ratio (7.0 +/- 0.8 vs. 4.0 +/- 0.3 g) from saline-control values. There was no difference in the blood-fre dry lung weight (1.4 +/- 0.1 vs. 1.3 +/- 0.1 g) between the two groups. These findings demonstrate that pulmonary congestion, pulmonary vascular hypertension, and focal endothelial injury contribute to the development of NPE.  相似文献

The body height, weight and growth velocity were investigated in 416 patients with Turner's syndrome whose age ranged from 3 to 17 years. They were all prepubertal at the time of the present study. The chromosomal analysis revealed 45, X monosomy in 148 cases, mosaicism in 208 cases, and nonmosaic structural abnormalities of X chromosome in 60 cases. There were no significant differences in height, growth velocity and weight between the patients with the 45, X karyotype and those with other chromosomal variants at any age. Combined mean heights at 3, 10 and 17 years of age were 86.0 +/- 3.5 (m +/- SD), 116.7 +/- 5.8 and 136.8 +/- 4.8 cm, respectively. These values were below -2.0 SD of normal Japanese girls. The growth velocity was 6.0 +/- 0.5 cm/year at 4 years of age, but decreased gradually and was 1.6 +/- 0.7 cm/year at 17 years of age. The degree of overweight was within +/- 10% of ideal body weight for height between the ages of 3 and 8, 10-20% between the ages of 9 and 10, and 20-30% above the age of 11 years.  相似文献

We investigated the relationship between IGF-I, gender, height, weight, body composition and birth size in 260 healthy 7- and 8-year-old children (139 females). All children were born term at Nepean Hospital, Western Sydney. Body composition was measured using dual energy X-ray absorptiometry. IGF-I levels were determined by radioimmunoassay. Girls had higher IGF-I levels than boys (20.2 +/- 6.5 nmol/l compared to 15.9 +/- 6.1 nmol/l, p < 0.001) but there was no correlation between age and IGF-I. IGF-I was positively correlated with height SDS (R(2) = 0.12), weight SDS (R(2) = 0.19), BMI SDS (R(2) = 0.18), total body fat (%) (R(2) = 0.14), and fat-free tissue/cm (R(2) = 0.03). After adjusting for gender and current weight, IGF-I-levels were inversely related to birth size - children with the lowest birth size and heaviest current weight had the highest IGF-I levels. This correlation between birth weight and IGF-I supports the hypothesis that the IGF-I axis is altered in babies who are small for gestational age.  相似文献
