Isoetes yunguiensis is an endangered and endemic fern in China. Field survey indicated that only one population and no more than 50 individuals occur in the wild. The genetic variation of 46 individuals from the population remaining at Pingba (Guizhou Province, China) was assessed by Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) finger-printing. Twelve primers were screened from sixty ten-bp arbitrary primers, and a total of 95 DNA fragments were scored. Of these, 62.1% were polymorphic loci, which indicated that high level genetic variation existed in the natural population. The accumulation of genetic variation in the history of the taxon and the apparent minimal reduction effect on genetic diversity following destruction of habitat might be responsible for the high level genetic diversity presently remaining in the I. yunguiensis population. However, with the continuing decrease of population size, the genetic diversity will gradually be lost. We suggest that the materials from the extant population should be used for re-establishment of the populations. Hosta minor, an insect-pollinated and rhizomatous herbaceous perennial, occurs in eastern and southern Korean Peninsula. AlthoughH. minor is a Korean endemic species and most populations of the species are scattered, the species maintains considerably high levels of genetic variation within the species, with a moderate level of variation (14%) found among populations. Nineteen of the 29 putative loci resolved (66%) were polymorphic within the species, the mean number of alleles per locus was 2.10 across all populations and averaged 1.68 within populations. In addition, genetic diversity was a considerably higher (for species and population level, mean estimates of genetic diversity were 0.275 and 0.230, respectively) than the average for other long-lived herbaceous perennials. Indirect estimate of the number of migrants per generation (Nm=1.03, calculated from mean GST) was moderate. Factors contributing to the high levels of genetic diversity found within populations ofH. minor include population maintenance via sexual and asexual modes of reproduction, primarily outcrossing breeding system, long generation time, probable ancient polyploid origin of the species, and moderate levels of seed dispersal by wind. Human disturbance in South Korea such as road and apartment constructions appears to be the major threat to this genetically diverse species.  相似文献

The number of plants in the gazetted rare species Stylidium coroniforme was increased through micropropagation. A method was first developed using the common species S. brunonianum. It was found that for both species, rapid propagation could be obtained by excising shoots from sterile seedlings and inducing shoot proliferation on Murashige and Skoog medium supplemented with 1 M BAP. Rooting was achieved using 1 M IBA and over 100 plants of each species were successfully established in soil. Leaf pieces could also be used to initiate cultures. In media with 20–25 M BAP and 1–5 M IBA, leaf pieces of S. brunonianum, S. piliferum, S. caricifolium and S. crassifolium produced adventitious buds, thus providing another method of micropropagation.  相似文献

A taxonomic inventory strategy is proposed for the planetary exploration of biological diversity. Such inventories result in comprehensive collections, our only insurance against bio-ignorance; meet needs for basic taxonomic and phylogenetic research; make full use of limited taxonomic resources; and provide credible, verifiable data associated with museum and herbarium specimens. Decisive efforts to meet the biodiversity crisis need not compromise advances in taxonomic theory and practice in the interest of expediency. Inventories provide data for understanding the origin and history of diversification of life on Earth, while gathering scientific evidence to inform decisions related to conservation and resource management.  相似文献

Aim This paper has two objectives. First, we examine how a variety of biotic, abiotic and anthropogenic factors influence the endemic and introduced arthropod richness on an oceanic island. Second, we look at the relationship between the endemic and introduced arthropod richness, to ask whether areas with high levels of endemic species richness deter invasions. Location The work was carried out on a young volcanic island, Terceira, in the Azores. Methods We used standard techniques to collect data on arthropod species richness. Environmental data were obtained from the CIELO climatic model and using GIS. The explanatory value of environmental variables on a small‐scale gradient of endemic and exotic arthropod species richness was examined with generalized linear models (GLMs). In addition, the impact of both endemic and exotic species richness in the communities was assessed by entering them after the environmental variable(s) to see if they contributed significantly to the final model (the hierarchical method). Results Abiotic (climatic and geomorphological) variables gave a better explanation of the variation in endemic species richness, whereas anthropogenic variables explained most of the variation in introduced species richness. Furthermore, after accounting for all environmental variables, part of the unexplained variance in the endemic species richness is explained by the introduced species richness and vice‐versa. That is, areas with high levels of endemic species richness had many introduced species. There is evidence of a somewhat inverse spatial distribution between a group of oceanic‐type, forest‐dwelling, endemic, relict arthropods and a group of more generalist endemic arthropods that are able to survive in disturbed marginal sites particularly rich in non‐indigenous species. Main conclusions Richness of endemic species is mainly driven by abiotic factors such as a climatic axis (oceanic‐type localities with lower temperatures and summer precipitations) and a binary variable CALD (location of sites in caldeiras or ravines), whereas richness of introduced species depends on disturbance related factors. However, after factoring out these major influences, there is a correlation between endemic and introduced richness, suggesting that – independent of the environmental and geographical factors that affect the distribution of endemic or introduced species – the richest endemic assemblages are more prone to invasion, due probably to a facilitation process. Inconclusive evidence suggests that non‐indigenous species are limited to those sites under anthropogenic influence located mainly near forest edges, but the rate of expansion of those species to high‐altitude, core pristine sites has still to be tested.  相似文献

应用通用引物扩增了凸加夫蛤(Gafrarium tumidum锯齿巴非蛤(Paphia gallus细纹卵蛤(Pitar striatum钝缀锦蛤(Tapes dorsatus裂纹格特蛤(Marcia hiantina) 5种帘蛤科贝类COI基因片段,并与GenBank数据库收录的加夫蛤(Gafrarium pectinatum沟纹巴非蛤(Paphia exarata日本卵蛤(Pitar japonicum日本格特蛤(Marcia japonica四射缀锦蛤(Tapes belcheri )5种帘蛤科贝类的同源序列进行比对分析。结果表明:所有物种扩增片段长度均为616 bp,序列A+T平均含量(62.9%)明显高于G+C含量。在 616个位点中,保守位点数为282个,变异位点数为334个,其中简约信息位点数为283个。以COI基因片段序列为标记,以海螂科砂海螂(Mya arenaria)作外群,构建了帘蛤科贝类的系统进化树,其拓扑结构显示:细纹卵蛤和日本卵蛤聚为一枝,凸加夫蛤和加夫蛤聚为一枝,锯齿巴非蛤和沟纹巴非蛤聚为一枝,四射缀锦蛤单独聚为一枝,钝缀锦蛤、裂纹格特蛤和日本格特蛤聚为一枝,最后所有帘蛤科物种聚为一枝,与外群相区别,其结果与传统形态分类基本一致。研究表明,线粒体COI基因作为帘蛤科贝类DNA条形码在物种鉴定方面具有可靠性,可以作为物种分类的重要辅助手段。  相似文献

Glissomonadida is an important cercozoan order of predominantly biflagellate gliding bacterivores found largely in soil and freshwater. Their vast diversity is largely undescribed. We studied 23 mostly newly isolated strains by light microscopy and sequenced their 18S rDNA genes; nine represent new species. For two misidentified ATCC 'Heteromita triangularis' strains, we establish novel gliding genera and species: the sandonid Mollimonas lacrima, the only glissomonad forming anterior and posterior pseudopodia, and Dujardina stenomorpha, a strongly flattened member of the new family Dujardinidae. A new strain from Oxfordshire grassland soil is the first reliably identified isolate of the virtually uniflagellate, smooth-gliding glissomonad genus, AllantionSandon, 1924. Phylogenetic analysis and cytological features reveal Allantion to be a member of Allapsidae. Sandona limna and Bodomorpha prolixa from Lake Baikal and Sandona hexamutans from volcanic Costa Rican soil are described as new species. Fifteen glissomonad strains were from grassland beside Lake Baikal. We describe two as new species of Sandona (S. heptamutans and S. octamutans); the others included strains of Sandona and Allapsa species that have already been described; and three were new species of Sandona and Allapsa but these died before being described. We discuss the ecological and evolutionary significance of these new strains.  相似文献

Platycrater arguta Sieb. et Zucc. is a rare and endangered species endemic to East Asia. It produces two floral morphs viz. bisexual and male flowers. For bisexual flowers, simultaneous cytokinesis in the microsporocyte meiosis leads to a tetrahedral tetrad. The mature pollen grain is shed at 2-cell stage. The young anther wall is composed of epidermis, endothecium that develops fibrous thickenings at maturity, 1–2 middle layers and tapetum. The tapetum with uninucleate to binucleate cells, disintegrates in situ (glandular tapetum), yet in a small percentage of the anthers (about 37.6%), the tapetum does not disintegrate, causing complete male sterility. The ovules are anatropous, unitegmic, tenuinucellar and the formation of the embryo sac follows the monosporic, Polygonum type. Antipodal cells are lacking in the mature embryo sacs. Before fertilization, two polar nuclei fuse into a secondary nucleus. The formation of microsporangial wall, microsporogenesis and male gametogenesis in male flowers are analogous to those in the bisexual. Prezygotic embryological characters ofP. arguta were reported for the first time, revealing that its endangerment is correlated with the abortion of pollen of a part but not to the female development that is normal.  相似文献

A new ostracod, Loxoconcha kamiyai sp. nov. in the Family Loxoconchidae, is described from the Pleistocene Omma Formation of Japan. Its geological and geographical distributions suggest that this species was once endemic to the Japan Sea, where it would have evolved until the Pliocene. Since the early Pleistocene, this species would have become extinct within this marginal sea during glacial maxima, probably due to its narrower salinity tolerances and geographical distributions than those of extant species inhabiting the euryhaline environments in other seas. The distributional patterns of pore systems in this species strongly suggest its closest phylogenetic affinities to a living species, Loxocorniculum mutsuense . These two species show a unique adult sexual dimorphism in the anterior element of the hingement. Taking the female hingement morphology as a standard, the male hingement can be explained in terms of heterochrony, i.e. paedomorphosis. Sexual hingement dimorphism with paedomorphosis occurs in only one phylogenetic group of the genus Loxoconcha , which is distinguished by the ontogenetic distributional patterns of pore systems. Episodic marine incursion has been a major driving force in the formation of present-day diversity. Marine incursion is considered to be one of the most productive ‘species pumps’ particularly because of its division and coalescence effects. Marine incursion events and their impacts on diversity are well documented from South America, North America and Africa; however, their history and impacts in continental East Asia largely remain unknown. Here, we propose a marine incursion scenario occurring in East Asia during the Miocene epoch, 10–17 Ma. Our molecular phylogenetic analysis of Platorchestia talitrids revealed that continental terrestrial populations (Platorchestia japonica) form a monophyletic group that is the sister group to the Northwest Pacific coastal species Platorchestia pacifica. The divergence time between the two species coincides with Middle Miocene high global sea levels. We suggest that the inland form arose as a consequence of a marine incursion event. This is the first solid case documenting the impact of marine incursion on extant biodiversity in continental East Asia. We believe that such incursion event has had major impacts on other organisms and has played an important role in the formation of biodiversity patterns in the region.  相似文献

We study the phylogenetic relationships among some North American Colias ("sulfur") butterflies, using mitochondrial gene sequences (ribosomal RNA, cytochrome oxidase I+II) totaling about 20% of the mitochondrial genome. We find that (1) the lowland species complex shows a branching order different from earlier views; (2) several montane and northern taxa may be more distinct than in earlier views; (3) one morphologically conservative Holarctic assemblage, C. hecla, is differentiated at the molecular-genetic level into at least three taxa which occupy distinct positions in the phylogeny and are sisters to diverse other taxa. These conclusions, constituting phylogenetic hypotheses, are supported by parsimony, maximum-likelihood, and Bayesian reconstruction algorithms. They are tested formally, by interior branch tests and paired-site tests, against alternative hypotheses derived from conventional species and subspecies naming combinations. In all cases our hypotheses are supported by these tests and the conventional alternatives are rejected. The "barcoding" subset of cytochrome oxidase I sequence identifies only some of the taxa supported by our full data set. Comparison of genetic divergence values among Colias taxa with those among related Pierid butterflies suggests that species radiations within Colias are comparatively younger. This emerging Colias phylogeny facilitates comparisons of genetic polymorphism and other adaptive mechanisms among taxa, thereby connecting micro- and macro-evolutionary processes.  相似文献

The impacts of invasive species are among the greatest threats to the persistence of native species and communities. Yet most work on rare plants has focused on issues such as habitat fragmentation and genetic diversity, while few studies have quantified the impacts of invasive plants on native ones or investigated the underlying mechanisms of those impacts. I used removal experiments to assess the effects of invasive grasses on the seedling and adult demography of an endangered California endemic, Oenothera deltoidesssp. howellii. Invasive plant removal significantly increased O. deltoides seedling recruitment, but had no effect on adult plants. Differences in seedling recruitment were primarily driven by greatly increased seedling emergence rates in removal plots, although there was also some evidence of higher seedling survivorship with invasives removal. Differences in habitat type strongly influenced both the effects of removal treatments and O. deltoides demography, with areas that support natural recruitment showing weaker treatment effects and higher overall recruitment, but lower adult survivorship, compared to those under restoration through planting. These results indicate that inhibition of germination due to reduced soil disturbance, rather than resource competition, appears to be the strongest impact of invasive plants on this rare endemic. Although previous work has documented the importance of changed disturbance regimes in generating invasion impacts, invader effects on rare plants are generally presumed to result from resource competition. Studies like this one highlight the need for a greater emphasis on understanding the mechanisms by which invasive plants impact native ones, and the importance of such information in designing conservation and management strategies.  相似文献

Phylogenetic analyses based on morphology placeAnaxagorea and other taxa with granular monosulcate pollen, as in otherMagnoliales, at the base ofAnnonaceae. Taxa with columellar tetrads, granular tetrads, and inaperturate monads form a derived clade. To test the systematic importance of palynology, we analyzed the data set with pollen characters removed. The result was lower resolution and a different rooting of the family, betweenUvariopsis and other groups with columellar tetrads.Anaxagorea and other monosulcates are higher in the tree, implying that granular monosulcate pollen, laminar stamens, and irregular endosperm ruminations are reversals. This rooting is highly unparsimonious when pollen characters are included, and only weakly supported over theAnaxagorea rooting when pollen is excluded. 鸡形目是一个与人类关系非常密切的鸟类类群 ,其保护工作受到国际自然保护组织的广泛关注。作为世界上鸡形目鸟类资源最为丰富的国家之一 ,我国加强该类群鸟类的保护工作不仅是野生动物资源保护的一个重要组成部分 ,而且对全球生物多样性的保护具有特别重要的意义。本文结合国家林业局“十五”期间将要实施的《全国野生动植物及自然保护区建设工程总体规划》 ,对我国鸡形目鸟类的多样性、特有性和分布特点进行了阐述 ,对该类群的濒危状况和致危因素进行了分析 ,从就地保护、易地保护以及科学研究三个方面介绍了我国在该类群研究与保护方面所取得的成就 ,探讨了目前保护管理工作中所存在的问题并提出了相应的保护对策  相似文献

The CD genome species in the genus Oryza are endemic to Latin America, including O. alta, O. grandiglumis and O. latifolia. Origins and phylogenetic relationship of these species have long been in dispute and are still ambiguous due to their homogeneous genome type, similar morphological characteristics and overlapping distribution. In the present study, we sequenced two chloroplast fragments (matK and trnL-trnF) and portions of three nuclear genes (Adh1, Adh2 and GPA1) from sixteen accessions representing seven species with the C, CD, and E genomes, as well as one G genome species as the outgroup. Phylogenetic analyses using parsimony and distance methods strongly supported that the CD genome originated from a single hybridization event, and that the C genome species (O. officinalis or O. rhizomatis instead of O. eichingeri) served as the maternal parent while the E genome species (O. australiensis) was the paternal donor during the formation of CD genome. In addition, the consistent phylogenetic relationships among the CCDD species indicated that significant divergence existed between O. latifolia and the other two (O. alta and O. grandiglumis), which corroborated the suggestion of treating the latter two as a single species or as taxa within species.We thank Tao Sang of Michigan State University (East Lansing, USA) and Bao-rong Lu of Fudan University (Shanghai, China) for their encouragement and assistance. 物种多样性(SD)与功能多样性(FD)之间存在多种关系,但由于生态系统功能主要由物种的功能属性决定,因而功能多样性对生态系统功能的影响大于物种多样性的影响。但在种间性状差异和物种均匀度这两个构成功能多样性的基本成分中,何者对功能多样性影响更大,并进而决定SD-FD关系尚不明确。通过在高寒矮嵩草(Kobresia humilis)草甸为期6a的刈割(留茬1 cm、3 cm及不刈割)和施肥(尿素7.5 g m~(-2)a~(-1)+磷酸二胺1.8 g m~(-2)a~(-1)、不施肥)控制实验,研究了种间性状差异(33个物种13个性状)和物种均匀度(所有物种)对物种多样性(所有物种)与功能多样性(33个物种13个性状)之间关系的影响。研究结果显示:(1)物种多样性与功能多样性正相关,它们与多性状种间差异负相关,而与物种均匀度正相关。物种均匀度是导致功能多样性变化的主要因素,也是导致SD-FD正相关的原因,这是因为随着物种多样性增加,物种均匀度的增加程度大于多性状种间差异的减少程度,因而功能多样性增加,SD-FD正相关;(2)功能多样性指数(FD_(Rao)和FDis)随物种多样性指数(H')减速递增,表明群落存在一定的功能冗余,且功能冗余随物种多样性的增大而增大,但尚未达到产生SD-FD无相关性的极限H'值;(3)功能多样性对高寒草甸生态系统地上净初级生产力(ANPP)的影响大于物种多样性的影响,二元线性回归显示在同时考虑二者对ANPP的影响时,可排除物种多样性的作用。但由于物种多样性下降或物种丧失引起的物种功能性状丢失或性状空间维度减小将导致功能多样性降低,表明它们之间存在一定互补性,在研究生物多样性与生态系统功能关系时,同时考虑物种多样性和功能多样性的影响仍十分必要。  相似文献

Silene hifacensis is a narrowly endemicplant, restricted to a few small populations onlimestone cliffs in the Spanish province ofAlicante and on the Balearic island of Ibiza.The species was collected to extinction in itsoriginal mainland location by the early 20thcentury. Attempts have been made to reintroduceS. hifacensis to this area butconservation efforts are limited by a lack ofinformation on the geographic structure ofgenetic variation in the species. We usednuclear (allozyme) and chloroplast DNA (cpDNA)PCR/RFLP markers to investigate the structureof genetic variation in 2 mainland and 6 Ibizanpopulations. Levels of allozyme variation werelow, with a mean of 2 alleles per polymorphiclocus. Mean (over polymorphic loci) totalallozyme diversity (Htot) was 0.203 and meanwithin-population diversity (Hpop) was 0.085. Mostdiversity was explained by thebetween-population diversity component (Gpop.reg =57%). Both mainland populations showedallozyme fixation. Three composite cpDNAhaplotypes were identified. The first is uniqueto a mainland population that is alsoallozymically distinct from all the otherpopulations. The second haplotype is found inthe other mainland population and one Ibizanpopulation: these two populations areallozymically identical. The remaining Ibizanpopulations contain the third haplotype. Thegeographic distribution of allozymes and cpDNAhaplotypes is discussed in terms of populationhistory, dispersal and, speculatively, in termsof the possibility that there has beenundocumented translocation of material betweenpopulations.  相似文献
