Benthic macrophyte communities of different substratum types (soft, hard) were studied in eleven differently impacted sites belonging in two different water typologies (transitional waters: Lesina Lagoon, Varna Lake; coastal waters: Varna Bay) and two ecoregions (Mediterranean Sea, Black Sea). Species lists were compiled for each study site, 20 taxa were found at Lesina and Varna Lake and Bay, and the abundance of each taxon was determined at each site. The relationship between nine metrics related to community structure [species richness, % of total coverage, dry biomass (g/m?2), and cluster and multi-dimensional scaling plot of Bray–Curtis similarity] and function [Ecological Status Group I % coverage, ESG II % coverage, Ecological Evaluation Index (EEI-c) and Ecological Index (EIEEI)] and key abiotic factors and an anthropogenic stress index (EnII) were studied. A strong relationship (Spearman rank correlation coefficient ρ ≤ ?0.89; R 2 ≥ 0.89) between anthropogenic stress and functional indices, EEI-c and EIEEI, was found. The structural index ‘species richness’ correlated negatively with EnII and positively with salinity, demonstrating a freshwater and confinement influence on species diversity. EEI-c and EIEEI indices classified the studied sites and locations in different Ecological Status Classes in accordance with the anthropogenic stress gradient.  相似文献

Many indices have been proposed for measuring diversity. If we demand that any index satisfy a few basic properties, including that it contain hierarchical components, then only the subset, {Na for a > 0} of Hill's family need be considered. (This subset includes indices related to the Shannon-Wiener index, H′ = log N1, and Simpson's index of concentration, λ = 1/N2.) Ecological components can also be defined for any of these indices. Only N2, however, can be used consistently to define local diversity and segregation components. These observations suggest that N2 is the best, single measure of diversity, and that the only other index worth considering is N1 .  相似文献

A desirable property of a diversity index is the so-called sum property. For a diversity index that possesses the sum property, such as species richness N, Shannon’s entropy H or Simpson’s index 1/D, the community diversity is decomposable into species-level patterns and the sum of single species diversities gives the pooled diversity of the species collection. In this paper, parametric diversity of type α is used to quantify how fertilizer applied to soil affects the relative contribution of species endemic or preferential to serpentine soils within a garigue plant community in Tuscany (Italy). Soil fertilizer significantly improved the biomass production of the original species pool without any significant colonization by alien species. However, the major biomass increments were experienced by species that are not exclusive to serpentine soils. In this view, the reduced abundance of species endemic or preferential to serpentine soils can be interpreted as a loss of ‘ecological quality’ of the analyzed community.  相似文献

The aggregation and feeding behaviour of invertebrate scavengers in areas disturbed by trawling was investigated at three different localities. At each site a fishing disturbance was created using a commercial 4 m beam trawl and scavenger density was quantified using a light beam trawl. At one site two diver surveys were also carried out; along a line fished with a scallop dredge or a beam trawl on two separate occasions. For all experiments the fished and adjacent unfished control areas were sampled before, and at intervals after, the initial fishing disturbance. Sampling with the light beam trawl revealed that hermit crabs Pagurus bernhardus moved into areas which had been fished with a 4 m beam trawl at an experimental site near Anglesey. The density of these hermit crabs increased significantly in the fished area after fishing had taken place, but no change in density occurred in the adjacent control (unfished) area. At two other sites (Red Wharf Bay, Anglesey and a site offshore from Walney Island) there were no detectable increases in scavenger numbers in the fished areas. Furthermore, at the site near Walney Island, numbers of hermit crabs P. bernhardus, swimming crabs Liocarcinus depurator and starfish Asterias rubens actually decreased after fishing. Thus the responses of scavengers to towed fishing gears varied considerably between different communities. At Red Wharf Bay, divers observed similar responses of scavengers to both beam trawl and scallop dredge disturbance. Four predatory species were observed feeding in the fished area; starfish A. rubens, hermit crabs P. bernhardus, brittlestars Ophiura ophiura and whelks Buccinum undatum. These predators fed on damaged bivalves, echinoderms, crustaceans, whelks and polychaetes. The proportion of starfish feeding in the fished area was significantly higher after fishing had taken place. Demersal fishing activities provide food for scavengers in the form of damaged animals which are left in the tracks of the trawl or dredge. The responses of scavengers to fishing disturbance are not always manifested as a large increase in their abundance. It is clear that the magnitude of response varies between species and between habitat types.  相似文献

Summary A desirable property of a diversity index is that it be a convex function of the proportions of different species that constitute a community.N 2, a diversity index belonging to the Hill's series of diversity indices and which is equivalent to the reciprocal of Simpson's diversity index violates this requirement when the proportion of one of the species is close to 1. Although San José Island is considered one of the most important islands in the lower Gulf of California due to its commercial fishing activities, few studies have evaluated their fish taxonomic diversity. The aim of this study was to determine the variation in the taxonomic diversity of the conspicuous fish community in eight locations around San José Island from March 2001 to February 2002. We assessed the changes in the diversity of rocky reef fish based on the taxonomic distances between species, using Fisher’s alpha diversity index, average taxonomic distinctiveness (AvTD Δ+), and taxonomic distinctiveness (Δ*). Visual censuses were conducted in 48 transects consisting of 100?×?5?m quadrants (500?m2 sampling area) at an average depth of 5?m, from 09:00 to 16:00. A total of 26,608 fishes belonging to 112 species and 76 genera were found. The index of relative abundance was used to determine the most important species, which were in order of abundance: Abudefduf troschelii, Thalassoma lucasanum, Stegastes rectifraenum, Mulloidichthys dentatus, Chromis atrilobata, Lutjanus argentiventris, and Scarus ghobban. According to Fisher’s alpha diversity index, the highest diversity of species was found in July and the lowest in February. The indices of Δ+ and Δ* indicated significant temporal and spatial differences.  相似文献

Howmiller & Scott (1977) presented an ‘Environmental Index’ based on thorough knowledge of the ecological demands of species of freshwater oligochaetes frequently found in North American waters. These authors emphasized the fact that common diversity measures do not utilize information about the ecological attributes of the constituent species but rather about community structure. A modification of the ‘Environmental Index’ is here presented with the aim of increasing its sensitivity in Europe and possibly also in North America. Four ecological groups are here preferred to the original three, and the ecological valence of the ‘key-species’ Tubifex tubifex is discussed at some length. Whereas most environmental and diversity indices remain little affected by changes in the total abundance of oligochaetes, the modified index is sensitive to such changes. Comparisons are made with two of the most popular diversity indices applied to specific situations, i.e. the Shannon-Weaver index and Simpson's index. In spite of recommendation in pollution manuals, indices of diversity may be inadequate in correctly characterizing situations of nutrient enrichment of freshwater environments. In the present study it is stressed that low diversity is usually found at both ends of the trophic scale and high diversity, which is supposed to characterize a clean and unstressed environment, is generally obtained in zones of transit between oligotrophic and eutrophic conditions — a likely result of the ‘nonequilibrium state’ described by Connell (1978) from coral reefs and rain forests in the tropics.  相似文献

This study describes the impact of the first passage of two types of bottom-towed fishing gear on rare protected shellfish-reefs formed by the horse mussel Modiolus modiolus (L.). One of the study sites was trawled and the other was scallop-dredged. Divers collected HD video imagery of epifauna from quadrats at the two study sites and directed infaunal samples from one site.The total number of epifaunal organisms was significantly reduced following a single pass of a trawl (90%) or scallop dredge (59%), as was the diversity of the associated community and the total number of M. modiolus at the trawled site. At both sites declines in anthozoans, hydrozoans, bivalves, echinoderms and ascidians accounted for most of the change. A year later, no recovery was evident at the trawled site and significantly fewer infaunal taxa (polychaetes, malacostracans, bivalves and ophuroids) were recorded in the trawl track.The severity of the two types of impact reflected the undisturbed status of the habitats compared to previous studies. As a ‘priority habitat’ the nature of the impacts described on M. modiolus communities are important to the development of conservation management policy and indicators of condition in Marine Protected Areas (EU Habitats Directive) as well as indicators of ‘Good Environmental Status’ under the European Union Marine Strategy Framework Directive.Conservation managers are under pressure to support decisions with good quality evidence. Elsewhere, indirect studies have shown declines of M. modiolus biogenic communities in fishing grounds. However, given the protected status of the rare habitat, premeditated demonstration of direct impact is unethical or illegal in Marine Protected Areas. This study therefore provides a unique opportunity to investigate the impact from fishing gear whilst at the same time reflecting on the dilemma of evidence-based conservation management.  相似文献

利用2011年5月、8月、10月和12月底拖网调查数据,对莱州湾海域鱼类同功能种团特征及其季节变化进行了研究。全年调查共渔获鱼类49种,全部为硬骨鱼类。根据鱼类的摄食习性,调查海域鱼类可划分为浮游动物食性种团、浮游动物/底栖动物食性种团、底栖动物食性种团、底栖动物/游泳动物食性种团、游泳动物食性种团、杂食性种团和碎屑食性种团共7个同功能种团,其中底栖动物食性种团种类数最多(14种),底栖动物/游泳动物食性种团次之(12种)。碎屑食性种团生物量在全年处于第一优势地位,占32.8%;其次为浮游动物食性种团,占31.6%;再次为底栖动物/游泳动物食性种团,占25.0%。同功能种团多样性(HFD)和种类多样性(Hs)季节变化趋势相同,均在夏季达到最高值,冬季达到最低值;两者关系使用指数方程拟合效果最佳。浮游动物食性种团平均营养级为3.71、浮游动物/底栖动物食性种团为3.83、底栖动物食性种团为3.43、底栖动物/游泳动物食性种团为3.75、游泳动物食性种团为3.86、杂食性种团为3.73、碎屑食性种团为3.34。与20世纪80年代、90年代调查结果相比,目前莱州湾碎屑食性种团比例明显上升,游泳动物食性种团比例大幅下;底栖动物食性种团和游泳动物食性种团的平均营养级明显下降,碎屑食性种团平均营养级有所上升。  相似文献

Abstract. Indices of β‐diversity are of two major types, (1) those that measure among‐plot variability in species composition independently of the position of individual plots on spatial or environmental gradients, and (2) those that measure the extent of change in species composition along predefined gradients, i.e. species turnover. Failure to recognize this distinction can lead to the inappropriate use of some β‐diversity indices to measure species turnover. Several commonly‐used indices of β‐diversity are based on Whittaker's βW (βW = γ/α, where γ is the number of species in an entire study area and α is the number of species per plot within the study area). It is demonstrated that these indices do not take into account the distribution of species on spatial or environmental gradients, and should therefore not be used to measure species turnover. The terms ‘β‐diversity’ and ‘species turnover’ should not be used interchangeably. Species turnover can be measured using matrices of compositional similarity and physical or environmental distances among pairs of study plots. The use of indices of β‐diversity and similarity‐distance curves is demonstrated using simulated data sets.  相似文献

The study focused on modelling of macropyte indices against physico-chemical parameters of waters by artificial neural networks. Several macrophyte diversity indices were analysed (species richness—N, the Shannon index—H′, the Simpson index—D, and the Pielou index—J) as well as the ecological status index (the Macrophyte Index for Rivers—MIR). The aim of the study was to verify knowledge about potential application of macrophytes in the environmental monitoring. A Multi-Layer Perceptron type of network was used in the analyses. The study included 260 river sites located throughout Poland. Alkalinity, conductivity, pH, nitrate and ammonium nitrogen, reactive and total phosphorus, and biochemical oxygen demand were used as the explanatory variables. The quality of the constructed models was assessed using calculated errors (RMSE and NRMSE) and r Pearson’s linear correlation coefficient. The neural network for the MIR index was characterised by the highest quality. Neural networks for other diversity indices (N, H′, D, and J) did not provide adequate results for modelling, which shows their ineffectiveness biological monitoring. Sensitivity analysis revealed the influence of each variable to the models. It indicated that modelled values of MIR are most strongly influenced by total phosphorus and alkalinity.  相似文献

This study took the Tianmu Mountain National Natural Preservation Area in western Zhejiang Province as an example 1) to quantify the species diversity with selected species indices including Shannon-Wiener index (H), Margalef index (K) and Evenness index (E) at different spatial scales, 2) to analyze the spatial distribution patterns of the species diversity by multifractal parameters such as the singularity index α, its fractal dimension f(α), the f(α)–α spectrum range (SR) and its symmetry (Dist) using the multifractal theory, and 3) to determine their relationships. Results of nonlinear regression analysis with power functions showed that increasing spatial scale resulted in increasing H but decreasing E and K, indicating that the scale dependence of species diversity existed. By using the multifractal method, it was indicated that species spatial distribution had multifractal features. Moreover, strong linear relationships of the diversity indices H, E and K with αmin and clear nonlinear associations of the diversity indices H, E and K with power functions for SR and Dist were found. Since interactions of the species diversity and the spatial characteristics are very complex, the above mentioned relationships need further validation along with precise explanations of any correlations among their ecological processes.  相似文献

Aim To investigate how plant diversity of whole islands (‘gamma’) is related to alpha and beta diversity patterns among sampling plots within each island, thus exploring aspects of diversity patterns across scales. Location Nineteen islands of the Aegean Sea, Greece. Methods Plant species were recorded at both the whole‐island scale and in small 100 m2 plots on each island. Mean plot species richness was considered as a measure of alpha diversity, and six indices of the ‘variation’‐type beta diversity were also applied. In addition, we partitioned beta diversity into a ‘nestedness’ and a ‘replacement’ component, using the total species richness recorded in all plots of each island as a measure of ‘gamma’ diversity. We also applied 10 species–area models to predict the total observed richness of each island from accumulated plot species richness. Results Mean alpha diversity was not significantly correlated with the overall island species richness or island area. The range of plot species richness for each island was significantly correlated with both overall species richness and area. Alpha diversity was not correlated with most indices of beta diversity. The majority of beta diversity indices were correlated with whole‐island species richness, and this was also true for the ‘replacement’ component of beta diversity. The rational function model provided the best prediction of observed island species richness, with Monod’s and the exponential models following closely. Inaccuracy of predictions was positively correlated with the number of plots and with most indices of beta diversity. Main conclusions Diversity at the broader scale (whole islands) is shaped mainly by variation among small local samples (beta diversity), while local alpha diversity is not a good predictor of species diversity at broader scales. In this system, all results support the crucial role of habitat diversity in determining the species–area relationship.  相似文献

We compiled herbarium specimen data to provide an improved characterization of geographic patterns of diversity using indices of species diversity and floristic similarity based on rarefaction principles. A dataset of 3650 georeferenced plant specimens belonging to Orchidaceae and Rubiaceae endemic to Atlantic Central Africa was assembled to assess species composition per half‐degree or one‐degree grid cells. Local diversity was measured by the expected number of species (Sk) per grid cell found in subsamples of increasing size and compared with raw species richness (SR). A nearly unbiased estimator of the effective number of species per grid cell was also used, allowing quantification of ratios of ‘true diversity’ between grid cells. Species turnover was measured using a presence/absence‐based similarity index (Sørensen) and an abundance‐based index that corrects for sampling bias (NNESS). Our results confirm that the coastal region of Cameroon is more diverse in endemic species than those more inland. The southern part of this coastal forest is, however, as diverse as the more intensively inventoried northern part, and should also be recognized as an important center of endemism. A strong congruence between Sørensen and NNESS similarity matrices lead to similar delimitations of floristic units. Hence, heterogeneous sampling seems to confer more bias when measuring patterns of local diversity using raw species richness than species turnover using Sørensen index. Overall, we argue that subsampling methods represent a useful way to assess diversity gradients using herbarium specimens while correcting for heterogeneous sampling effort. An investigation has been made of the relation between species diversity and the lognormal distribution of individuals among species, using phytoplankton samples from the Indian Ocean. The area under the truncated lognormal curve representing a sample gives the total number of species, S, while the logarithmic standard deviation, σ, gives a measure of the scatter of distribution of individuals among species, the other factor affecting diversity. Using a method described by Hald, truncated lognormal curves were fitted to the phytoplankton data and estimates obtained for the mean, ξ, the logarithmic standard deviation, σ, the number of species in the modal octave, No, and the number of species in the population universe, N. Since one is interested in a sample only in so far as it reflects the properties of the population from whence it came, estimated population parameters were used to define measures of diversity by which means it was hoped to obtain a diversity index independent of sample size, i.e., a diversity value related more to the population than to the sample.  相似文献

Upwelling ecosystems exhibit strong spatio-temporal variations of environmental conditions that drive the dynamics of marine diversity and ressources. Yet little is known in these ecosystems concerning the diversity of groundfishes. We studied the effects of environment (sea surface temperature, chlorophyll a concentration and bathymetric strata) and fishing pressure on this variability in the Mauritanian Exclusive Economic Zone (MEEZ), based on abundance data collected from 2158 hauls from scientific surveys performed on the continental shelf (15–200 m) between 1997 and 2010. First, for each haul (i.e. alpha-diversity), Species richness S and Berger Parker dominance Dbp were used as proxies of two complementary groups of nine indices, belonging to three main components of diversity (species number, evenness and taxonomic diversity), identified by a principal component analysis based on Spearman correlation coefficient. Thus the set of diversity indices used in this work suggests that a single component of diversity cannot represent the biodiversity of MEEZ groundfish. Second, generalized linear models (GLM) highlighted the stability of both indices for environmental variables, fishing effort and time, while, as shown by a previous study in the MEEZ, these variables influence species composition (i.e. beta-diversity). A longitudinal gradient of S and Dbp was highlighted, with coastal strata being richer in species and abundances more evenly distributed among species than offshore strata. Overall, this study provides a baseline of groundfish diversity in the MEEZ, that is also useful for comparison to other upwelling ecosystems, and essential for monitoring its potential shifts faced to climate change.

基于2010-2012年在中街山列岛海洋保护区进行的8个航次底拖网调查数据资料,从鱼类分类学和生态类群等方面,结合多样性、资源密度和相对重要性指数,对该保护区鱼类物种多样性特征进行了分析。调查海域共采集鱼类55种,隶属2纲12目32科44属。其中,鲈形目鱼类26种,占47.3%;趋礁性鱼类41种,占74.5%;暖温性、暖水性和冷温性鱼类分别为30、24和1种,其中暖水种约占所有偶见种的70%;定居种、近海洄游种和季节性种分别为27、24和24种;底层、近底层和中上层鱼类分别占40.0%、36.4%和23.6%,其中矛尾鰕虎鱼(Chaeturichthys stigmatias)、龙头鱼(Harpodon nehereus)和鳀科鱼类分别成为各水层的绝对优势种。所有调查站点鱼类平均生物量指数夏季最高(1043.7 kg/km2),春季最低;尾数密度指数春季最高(122×103 尾/km2),冬季最低;生物量与尾数密度指数最高与最低季节之间均存在显著性差异(P<0.05)。对多样性的分析显示,Margalef丰富度(D)冬季最高,秋季最低,Shannon-Wiener多样性(H')与Pielou均匀度(J')均为夏季最高,秋季最低。聚类和NMDS方法分析显示不同季节鱼类群落组成格局差异极显著(P<0.01)。研究结果表明,中街山列岛海洋保护区鱼类资源结构受近海季节性洄游种类影响较大,鱼类分布季节动态多呈现洄游性更替节律,保护区内虽已出现鱼类多样性下降趋势和生态系统功能退化现象,传统经济种类的优越性在逐渐下降或边缘化,但独特的岛礁生境仍能很好地发挥着维持固有种类和提供良好栖息场所的优势,随着海洋牧场建设与一系列资源保护与修复措施,石首鱼科幼体已形成优势群体,而且保护区内出现大量小型饵料鱼类。  相似文献

The 2010 biodiversity target of a ‘significant reduction in the current rate of biodiversity loss’ presents challenges for effective measurement of changes in global/regional biodiversity. A simple ‘biodiversity intactness index’ (BII) is attractive in using available data and expert opinion, but is seen to be only weakly linked to ‘biodiversity’ in its usual sense of ‘variation’. An example illustrates how an improved BII score could result even when there are large species losses. A family of alternative biodiversity ‘representativeness indices’ better reflect variation. They use the same readily available information, plus simple species–area relationships (SAR) and genetic diversity curves. A new genetic‐diversity abundance‐fraction curve, like SAR, is linear in log–log space. The new representativeness indices incorporate, through range‐abundance curves, the abundance fraction estimates normally used for BII. Land use or climate change impacts therefore can reflect partial rather than total biodiversity losses at localities. Estimates of biodiversity gains/losses using these indices enable a novel regional planning‐based approach for addressing the 2010 target.  相似文献

The combination of two scion-one rootstock was used for two apple cultivars, ‘Pink Lady’ and ‘Qinguan’, budded on the same, one-year-old Malus hupehensis (Pamp.) Rehd. to reduce the impact of root and pot size and in order to understand the growth, water-use efficiency (WUE), and chlorophyll fluorescence characteristics. The two-scion grafted trees were planted in plastic pots under two water regimes, i.e. 70% field capacity (FC) and 55% FC. Results indicated that different scions were affected differently by drought stress. ‘Pink Lady’ had higher net photosynthetic rate (P N), stomatal conductance (g s), and transpiration rate (E) compared with ‘Qinguan’ under both water treatments. However, ‘Qinguan’ had lower minimal fluorescence (F0), higher maximum fluorescence (Fm), and higher maximum photochemical efficiency of photosystem II (Fv/Fm) than ‘Pink Lady’ at 55% FC. Moreover, ‘Qinguan’ had larger shoot dry mass (ShDM) and higher intrinsic WUEI than ‘Pink Lady’ under both water status. Gas-exchange and growth parameters, except for P N and scion diameter, were significantly affected by the cultivar and water treatment. At 70% FC, ShDM was significantly correlated with WUEI. Moreover, WUEI was negatively linearly correlated with g s at either 70 or 55% FC. These results might indicate that ‘Pink Lady’ was more sensitive to drought than ‘Qinguan’. ‘Qinguan’ apple was able to improve WUE more than ‘Pink Lady’ under both well-watered and drought conditions. The growth parameters and photosynthetic capacity of two different scions showed that the combination of double scion-one rootstock might eliminate the influences of the rootstock and pot size.  相似文献
