Twenty-one specimens of the longtailed silverbiddy Gerres longirostris (Gerreidae) were examined for dactylogyrid parasites from the Nabq Managed Resource Protected Area, Ras Mohammed National Park (Red Sea) near Sharm El-Sheikh, South Sinai, Egypt. The diagnosis of Protogyrodactylus Johnston & Tiegs, 1922 was amended, and three new species, P. federicae n. sp., P. zullinii n. sp. and P. alatus n. sp., were recovered and described; the prevalence of each species was 100%. P. federicae most closely resembled P. alienus Bychowsky & Nagibina, 1974, but differed from it by possessing two anteromedial projections on the ventral bar, a claw-like ventral anchor sclerite and spatulate dorsal bars. P. zullini was most similar to P. quadratus Johnston & Tiegs, 1922, from which it differed by having a distal hook on the superficial root of the dorsal anchor, an evenly curved ventral anchor shaft and point, and a flange on the bulbous base of the male copulatory organ. P. alatus was closest to P. youngi Bychowsky & Nagibina, 1974, from which it differed by having delicate anchors and two prominent anteromedial processes on the ventral bar.  相似文献

A comparative study has been made of the haptoral morphology of four species of diplozoon (Monogenea: Diplozoidae) from the gills of fish exposed to different levels of water pollution in two river systems in eastern Europe. An examination of the haptors of Paradiplozoon homoion (Bychowsky & Nagibina 1959), Paradiplozoon ergensi (Pejcoch 1968) and Paradiplozoon megan (Bychowsky & Nagibina 1959) from chub caught in the River Morava, Czech Republic and of Diplozoon paradoxum (Nordmann 1832) from bream recovered from the River Volga, Russia has revealed abnormalities to the attachment clamps. Two abnormal conditions were found: structural alterations to the attachment clamps and changes in the number of attachment clamps; these occurred both singly and in combination. A higher frequency of abnormal attachment clamps was found in diplozoons from fish caught in the more polluted localities of both rivers. The abnormalities have been recorded and their morphology compared in the light of conditions of environmental stress.  相似文献

This paper reports a new species and two new records of the Tetraonchoididae collected from fishes of the South China and East China Seas. Pseudotetraonchoides halichoeres n. sp. was obtained from the gills of Halichoeres poecilopterus collected at Dongshan (23°42' N, 117°24' E). The new species is similar to P. bleekeriae Bychowsky, Gussev & Nagibina, 1965 in the structure of the haptor, but differs in the sizes of the hamuli, the transverse bar and the supplementary plate, and also in details of the supplementary plate. Both Heteropavlovskioides synodontis Machida, 1978 from Trachinocephalus myops and Tetraonchoides japonicus Bychowsky, 1951 from Uranoscopus japonicus are recorded for the first time off China.  相似文献

Nine species of monogeneans were collected from the fish Pomadasys hasta (Bloch): Bravohollisia magna Bychowsky & Nagibina, 1970; B. rosetta n. sp.; B. reticulata n. sp.; B. gussevi n. sp.; B. kritskyi n. sp.; Caballeria pedunculata Bychowsky & Nagibina, 1970; C. robusta Bychowsky & Nagibina, 1970; C. liewi n. sp.; and C. intermedius n. sp. The anchors of these species contain a canal beginning in the shaft and ending near the point; ducts of haptoral glands enter the canal in the shaft and are associated with net-like structures near the anchor tip. The net-like structures of Bravohollisia spp. are extensive, while those of Caballeria spp. are smaller and more compact. These nets probably assist the monogeneans in attaching to the gill filaments. Caballeria spp. possess four pairs of extensible haptoral digits. Species of Bravohollisia and Caballeria posses two seminal vesicles.  相似文献

Phylogenetic analyses based on partial 18S rDNA sequences of polyonchoinean monogeneans were conducted in order to investigate the relationships between selected families and subfamilies of the Dactylogyrinea, mainly within the Dactylogyridae. We tested the status of the Ancyrocephalidae sensu Bychowsky & Nagibina (1978) and the Ancyrocephalinae sensu Kritsky & Boeger (1989). Within the Dactylogyrinea, the Diplectanidae and Dactylogyridae are well supported by maximum likelihood and maximum parsimony analyses, but their phylogenetic relationship with the Pseudomurraytrematidae remains unresolved. Phylogenetic relationships between the Pseudodactylogyrinae, Ancyrocephalinae, Ancylodiscoidinae and Dactylogyrinae indicate paraphyly of the Ancyrocephalidae sensu Bychowsky & Nagibina (1978). The group of species recently considered as the Dactylogyridae sensu Kritsky & Boeger (1989) comprises two sister groups. The first group includes the freshwater Ancyrocephalinae and the Ancylodiscoidinae. The second group includes the Pseudodactylogyrinae, Dactylogyrinae and the Ancyrocephalinae from the fish species Siganus doliatus and Tetraodon fluviatilis. The non-monophyly of the Ancyrocephalinae (i.e. the non-monophyly of the group of species recently considered as members of Ancyrocephalinae), previously suggested by Kritsky & Boeger (1989) using the morphological characters, indicates that classification of the Dactylogyridae needs to be revised.  相似文献

Monocotyle guttatae n. sp. is described from the gills of the ray Dasyatis guttata (Bloch and Schneider, 1801) (Dasyatidae) off the coast of Brazil The new species can be readily differentiated from the other species of the genus in having a male copulatory organ with 2 loops and an accessory piece, 5-7 sclerites on the marginal haptoral papillae, and the absence of accessory sclerites on the dorsal surface of the posterior body. The present record confirms the presence of the genus in the subtropical waters of South America.  相似文献

Callorhynchocotyle hydrolagi n. sp. is proposed for hexabothriids found on the gills of the ghost shark, Hydrolagus ogilbyi, taken off the coast of southeastern Australia. The species is distinguished from the three previously described species of the genus in that the sclerites and the points of the sclerites of the three sucker pairs are all of similar size. The greater thickness of the sucker sclerites, the hamuli with inflated, almost spherical terminations of the roots, and the robust male copulatory complex also serve to differentiate C. hydrolagi.  相似文献

Eleven species of Hamatopeduncularia Yamaguti, 1953 were found on six species of ariids caught off the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. They are: H. arii Yamaguti, 1953 from Arius maculatus; H. thalassini Bychowsky & Nagibina, 1969 from A. thalassinus; H. simplex Bychowsky & Nagibina, 1969 from Osteogeneiosus militaris; H. isosimplex n. sp. from A. venosus, A. maculatus and A. sagor; H. malayanus n. sp. from A. caelatus; H. manjungi n. sp. from A. thalassinus; H. papernai n. sp. from A. maculatus; H. elongatum n. sp. from A. thalassinus; H. longicopulatrix n. sp. from A. venosus; H. venosus n. sp. from A. venosus; and H. malaccensis n. sp. from O. militaris and A. maculatus.  相似文献

Morphological analyses of the attachment apparatus (clamps and central hooks) of Paradiplozoon homoion (Bychowsky & Nagibina, 1959) (Diplozoinae, Monogenea) parasitising gills of Gobio gobio (L.) showed a high percentage of abnormally developed parasite specimens. Four different localities in the Vlára River basin, Czech Republic, were investigated for the presence of such abnormal individuals. The highest percentage of abnormalities in the attachment apparatus (over 39%) was recorded in the Vlára River, at Bohuslavice. This study provides a comprehensive classification of these abnormalities with 7 types of abnormalities described and illustrated. Abnormalities of parts of the attachment apparatus that form in the later stage of ontogenetic development were the most frequent, the most frequent types of abnormalities being clamps with abnormal sclerites, and combinations of abnormalities. Abnormalities of the central hooks were also found in our material. The abnormalities found in diplozoids are probably connected with environmental pollution; however, this point requires further investigation.  相似文献

Three species of Euryhaliotrema Kritsky & Boeger, 2002 (Monogenoidea: Dactylogyridae) were collected from the gills of four golden snapper Lutjanus johnii (Bloch) (Lutjanidae) from the marine and brackish waters off Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia. Type-specimens of Ancyrocephalus johni Tripathi, 1959 apparently have not survived and the possibility existed that the species was based on specimens representing more than one species. Euryhaliotrema johni (Tripathi, 1959) (sensu Young, 1968) was redescribed and determined to most likely represent A. johni, originally described from the River Hooghly, Diamond Harbour, India. Two new species were described. Euryhaliotrema longibaculoides n. sp. was most similar to Euryhaliotrema longibaculum (Zhukov, 1976) Kritsky & Boeger, 2002 from Lutjanus spp. from the western Atlantic Ocean. It differed from E. longibaculum by having a male copulatory organ (MCO) with an elongate comparatively delicate shaft and a bulbous base (MCO U- or J-shaped with funnel-shaped base in E. longibaculum). Based on the comparative morphology of the haptoral sclerites, Euryhaliotrema lisae n. sp. was most similar to Euryhaliotrema cryptophallus Kritsky & Yang, 2012 from the gills of the mangrove red snapper Lutjanus argentimaculatus (Forsskål) from the South China Sea. Euryhaliotrema lisae differed from E. cryptophallus by having a copulatory complex with an obvious weakly sclerotised J-shaped MCO (MCO cryptic, delicate, and with a shaft comprising about one counterclockwise ring in E. cryptophallus).  相似文献

The study of the diplectanid gill parasites of Diplodus Rafinesque (Teleostei: Sparidae) from off the Algerian coast revealed the presence of several species of Lamellodiscus Johnston & Tiegs, 1922 on D. sargus (Linnaeus) and D. vulgaris (Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire). Some of these species differ from the others by having a copulatory organ "en lyre" and lamellodiscs of the morphological group 'ignoratus' of Oliver (1987). In Lamellodiscus, the subgroup 'ignoratus', proposed by Amine & Euzet (2005), characterised by a simple lateral dorsal bar, includes L. ignoratus Palombi, 1943 and L. fraternus Bychowsky, 1957. Two new species, L. falcus n. sp. and L. neifari n. sp. form part of the 'ignoratus' subgroup. These species are distinguished by the morphology and the size of the sclerotised parts of the haptor and copulatory organ.  相似文献

In some spiders, a discrete portion of the male's copulatory organ (the apical sclerite) breaks off during copulation and remains in the female's reproductive tract. Apical sclerites may prevent insemination by rivals (sperm competition), stimulate females to favourably bias paternity (cryptic choice) or breakage may reflect sexual conflict over copulation duration with little direct effect on paternity. It has been assumed that any benefits of organ breakage are balanced by a large cost (male sterility) in species where males could otherwise mate multiply, but this has never been experimentally tested. We examined these ideas in the Australian redback spider (Latrodectus hasselti Thorell 1870, Araneae: Theridiidae), a species where males are functionally sterile after one normal mating. We experimentally removed sclerites and found males were able to mate, had similar copulation durations and transferred similar numbers of sperm as males with intact sclerites. Benefits of organ breakage were examined by forcing intact, rival males to inseminate the same or opposite reproductive tracts (female have paired, independent tracts in this taxon) and assessing paternity as a function of sclerite location. As predicted, apical sclerites were typically deposited at the entrance to the female's sperm storage organ, where they could physically block insemination by rivals. First male precedence was common when males inseminated the same tract and deposited sclerites at the entrance to the spermatheca, but not when sclerites were found elsewhere in the tract, or when rivals inseminated opposite tracts (where physically blocking rivals was impossible). Our data show that, in redbacks, copulatory organ breakage is not a side‐effect of sexual conflict, is unlikely to be a cue for cryptic female choice, but allows males to avoid sperm competition. Moreover, copulatory organ damage can have minimal reproductive cost for males, so assumptions of sterility after organ breakage are unjustified without supporting data.  相似文献

[previously Pseudorhabdosynochus latesi (Tripathi, 1957) Kritsky & Beverley-Burton, 1986], L. paralatesi (Nagibina, 1976) n. comb. [previously Diplectanum paralatesi Nagibina, 1976] and Diplectanum penangi Liang & Leong, 1991, are reported from the gills of Lates calcarifer (Centropomidae) from the South China Sea (new geographical records for L. latesi and D. penangi). Collections from off Bathurst Island, Northern Territory, Australia, represent a new geographic record for L. paralatesi; Chilka Lake, Orissa, India, is established as the type-locality for L. latesi. Laticola n. g. (Diplectanidae) is proposed for species with a spoon-shaped copulatory organ with two to four concentric incomplete ridges in the base. Laticola lingaoensis, the type-species of Laticola, is described, and L. latesi and L. paralatesi are redescribed based on specimens from the South China Sea. Pseudorhabdosynochus monosquamodiscusi Balasuriya & Leong, 1995 and Pseudorhabdosynochus yangjiangenesis Wu & Li, 2005 are considered junior subjective synonyms of L. latesi and L. paralatesi, respectively.  相似文献

Three new species of the Dactylogyridae are described from aquarium fishes collected in India and two new genera are proposed: Heterotylus heterotylus n. g., n. sp. from Hypostomus sp. (Loricariidae), Diaphorocleidus armillatus n. g., n. sp. from Gymnocorymbus ternetzi (Characidae) and Urocleidoides vaginoclaustrum n. sp. from Xiphophorus helleri (Poeciliidae). Heterotylus n. g. is characterised by species having overlapping gonads (testis posterodorsal to the ovary), a mid-ventral vaginal aperture, a copulatory complex consisting of a relatively straight copulatory organ unarticulated to a complex accessory piece, erect acute hook thumbs, unexpanded hook shanks, dorsal and ventral anchor/bar complexes and absence of well-defined basal roots of the ventral anchors. Diaphorocleidus n. g. includes species with overlapping gonads (testis posterodorsal to the ovary), submarginal sinistral vaginal pore, a copulatory complex comprising a coiled (counterclockwise) copulatory organ unarticulated to an accessory piece, protruding depressed hook thumb, hook shank with two subunits (proximal subunit expanded), dorsal and ventral anchor/bar complexes and V-shaped bars. The following new combinations are proposed: D. affinis (Mizelle, Kritsky & Crane, 1968) n. comb. (syn. U. affinis Mizelle, Kritsky & Crane, 1968), D. kabatai (Molnar, Hanek & Fernando, 1974) n. comb. (syn. U. kabatai Molnar, Hanek & Fernando, 1974) and D. microstomus (Mizelle, Kritsky & Crane, 1968) n. comb. (syn. U. microstomus Mizelle, Kritsky & Crane, 1968).  相似文献

Two species of Nasicola Yamaguti, 1968 are described from the nasal cavities of tunas ( Thunnus spp.) from off the coast of Brazil: N. brasiliensis n. sp. from T. obesus (Lowe) and the type-species, N. klawei (Stunkard, 1962), from T. albacares (Bonn.). The new species is differentiated from N. klawei on the basis of the large number of testes and from N. hogansi Wheeler & Beverley-Burton, 1986 by its greater body-size, proportionately smaller haptor and smaller number of marginal spines. The host-specificity of Nasicola spp. is commented upon.  相似文献

Lethrinitrema gibbus n. g., n. sp. and L. dossenus n. sp. are described from the fish Lethrinus rubrioperculatus Sato collected off New Caledonia, South Pacific. Members of Lethrinitrema n. g. (Ancyrocephalidae) are characterised by having two pyriform haptoral reservoirs and ventral anchors with lateral grooves. The elongate tubular distal end of each reservoir bifurcates, draining into a superficial lateral groove on each side of the ventral anchors. The haptoral reservoirs are postulated to store secretory products which assist in attachment to the host. Lethrinitrema spp. also possess tandem gonads, a male copulatory organ without an accessory piece or with thinly sclerotised accessory piece, and a dextrolateral, non-sclerotised vaginal bulb. The two new species have small, poorly demarcated haptors with small haptoral armament and a crown-like piece on the tip of the inner root of the ventral anchors. They differ from each other in the shape and size of the ventral bar and male copulatory organ (40–45 μm in length in L. gibbus vs 24–30 μm in L. dossenus). Three other species, previously included in Haliotrema Johnston & Tiegs, 1922, are transferred to Lethrinitrema, i.e. L. chrysostomi (Young, 1968) n. comb., L. fleti (Young, 1968) n. comb. (both briefly redescribed from paratypes) and L. lethrini (Yamaguti, 1937) n. comb. All species of Lethrinitrema parasitise Lethrinus spp. (Lethrinidae), and there is evidence for the existence of further Lethrinitrema spp. on Lethrinus spp. in the Indo-Pacific region.  相似文献

Two new and two previously described species of diplectanid monogeneans (Heteroplectanum flabelliforme n. sp., Diplectanum sumpit n. sp., D. jaculator Mizelle & Kritsky, 1969 and D. toxotes Mizelle & Kritsky, 1969) were collected from archerfish Toxotes jaculatrix off the Island of Langkawi, Kedah and off Perak, Malaysia. The reproductive systems and squamodiscs of D. jaculator and D. toxotes are described for the first time. D. sumpit n. sp. differs from D. toxotes and D. jaculator in a having a small curved copulatory tube with a distinct accessory piece, compared to the long, tubular copulatory tube of D. jaculator and the slender tube of D. toxotes. D. sumpit n. sp. also differs from D. toxotes in having a larger ventral bar and larger squamodiscs. H. flabelliforme n. sp. differs from all known Heteroplectanum species in the shape and size of the squamodiscs, the arrangement of the sclerites in the squamodiscs, the extremely large ventral bar and the short, curved, non-spinous copulatory tube.  相似文献
