BackgroundEosinophilic meningitis (EM) is a rare clinical syndrome caused by both infectious and noninfectious diseases. In tropical pacific countries, Angiostrongylus cantonensis is the most common cause. However, the EM definition varies in the literature, and its relation to parasitic meningitis (PM) remains unclear.Methodology/Principal findingsAdult and adolescent patients of 13 years old or above with suspected central nervous system (CNS) infections with abnormal CSF findings were prospectively enrolled at a tertiary referral hospital in Hanoi, Vietnam from June 2012 to May 2014. Patients with EM or suspected PM (EM/PM) were defined by the presence of either ≥10% eosinophils or an absolute eosinophil cell counts of ≥10/mm3 in the CSF or blood eosinophilia (>16% of WBCs) without CSF eosinophils. In total 679 patients were enrolled: 7 (1.03%) had ≥10% CSF eosinophilia, 20 (2.95%) had ≥10/mm3 CSF eosinophilia, and 7 (1.03%) had >16% blood eosinophilia. The patients with ≥10% CSF eosinophilia were significantly younger (p = 0.017), had a lower body temperature (p = 0.036) than patients with ≥10/mm3 CSF eosinophilia among whom bacterial pathogens were detected in 72.2% (13/18) of those who were tested by culture and/or PCR. In contrast, the characteristics of the patients with >16% blood eosinophilia resembled those of patients with ≥10% CSF eosinophilia. We further conducted serological tests and real-time PCR to identify A. cantonensis. Serology or real-time PCR was positive in 3 (42.8%) patients with ≥10% CSF eosinophilia and 6 (85.7%) patients with >16% blood eosinophilia without CSF eosinophils but none of patients with ≥10/mm3 CSF eosinophilia.ConclusionsThe etiology of PM in northern Vietnam is A. cantonensis. The eosinophil percentage is a more reliable predictor of parasitic EM than absolute eosinophil count in the CSF. Patients with PM may present with a high percentage of eosinophils in the peripheral blood but not in the CSF.  相似文献

The case of a 67-year-old man with underlying carcinomatous meningitis who presented with meningismus and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) eosinophilia is reported. CSF eosinophilia can reflect a number of underlying conditions; however, carcinomatous meningitis is not generally considered. In this case, studies for bacterial, fungal and parasitic agents were negative. Cytologic examination of a lumbar puncture specimen revealed malignant epithelial cells in an inflammatory background. When unexplained eosinophilia is found in the CSF, a thorough search for coincident meningeal carcinomatosis should be undertaken.  相似文献

Eosinophilic meningitis associated angiostrongyliasis (EOMA) is a harmful disease of the brain and spinal cord caused by a parasitic helminth, Angiostrongylus cantonensis, presenting with severe headaches and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) eosinophilia. However, the immunologic pathophysiology especially in relation to the eosinophilic inflammation is still unknown. We measured the CSF concentrations of eotaxin and eotaxin-2 of 30 patients and 10 controls. The CSF eotaxin and eotaxin-2 levels of the EOMA patients were significantly higher than those of the controls (p<0.001). The positive detection values were 83.3% (25/30) and 93.3% (28/30) for eotaxin and eotaxin-2, respectively. CSF eotaxin-2 levels also correlated with CSF eosinophilia (p=0.002). These results might indicate that the recruitment of eosinophils to the brain and spinal cord in EOMA patients could be related to elevated eotaxin-2 levels.  相似文献

Male BALB/c mice were infected with Angiostrongylus cantonensis and at various times p.i. treated with cyclosporin A (CsA) either for 5 days continuously or intermittently, or for 12–16 days on alternate days. They were monitored for peripheral blood eosinophilia and at necropsy examined for CSF and bone marrow eosinophilia, and worm recovery. CsA treatment provoked a transient inhibition of peripheral blood eosinophilia in all groups examined, followed by rebounding eosinophilia. There was no significant difference in bone marrow and CSF eosinophilia between CsA- and vehicle-treated groups. Mice treated with CsA on alternate days yielded lower intracranial worm recovery with small-sized worms at days 7, 21 and 30 p.i. than vehicle-treated groups did. No significant reduction in worm recovery was noted in mice treated for 5 days either continuously or intermittently, although worms, especially female ones, harvested from groups treated with CsA from days — 1 to 3 or from days 13 to 17 were significantly smaller than those from vehicle-treated groups. CsA-treatment suppressed blastogenic responses of spleen cells against Con A or worm antigen at days 7 and 21 p.i. In vitro treatment of the 3rd stage larvae with CsA did not adversely influence survival of A. cantonensis in mice. These data indicate that CsA exerts antiparasitic effects against A. cantonensis in mice.  相似文献

Lymphokines derived from activated T cells regulate the proliferation and postmitotic differentiation of eosinophils in vitro. We investigated whether peripheral blood eosinophilia, which is a characteristic feature of both allergic and nonallergic asthma, correlates with T cell activation and lymphokine production in asthmatic patients. Flow cytometric analysis of T cell activation markers revealed that asthmatic individuals are characterized by increased numbers of IL-2R (CD25)-bearing T cell subsets. The absolute number of IL-2R+ T cells correlated with the eosinophilia observed in the asthmatic patients. Purified CD4+ and CD8+ T cells from allergic and nonallergic asthmatic individuals spontaneously secreted factors that extend the lifespan of eosinophils in vitro. T cells from normal donors displayed this effect only after polyclonal stimulation with anti-CD3 antibody. The eosinophil lifespan-extending factors were also found in sera of asthmatic patients. Identification of these factors was performed by using neutralizing antibodies against IL-3, IL-5, and granulocyte-macrophage CSF. In sera, mainly IL-5 and granulocyte-macrophage CSF were responsible for prolonged eosinophil survival, whereas granulocyte-macrophage CSF was dominant in T cell supernatants. These results indicate that T cells and secretion of lymphokines play an important regulatory function toward eosinophils, which are thought to represent major proinflammatory effector cells in certain types of asthma.  相似文献

The mechanisms leading to the development of eosinophilia were investigated in 65 patients with immunodermatological disorders, including the role of eosinophilotactic cytokines and the possible involvement of human T-cell leukemia virus, HTLV. HTLV-1 gag proviral sequences were revealed in two cases of lymphoproliferative disorders such as angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia (ALHE) and CD4+ cutaneous lymphoma, respectively. Increased level of GM-CSF was detected in 33% of disorders studied. Elevated level of IL-5 and eotaxin was detected in 27% and 30%, respectively, of patients with bullous diseases. Elevated level of GM-CSF and eotaxin was found in 33% and 46%, respectively, of patients with inflammatory diseases. Neither of the four cytokines, however proved to be responsible alone or together for the induction of eosinophilia. The possible indirect role of human retroviruses through induction of eosinophilic chemotactic cytokines is hypothesized.  相似文献

The shotgun strategy applying tandem mass spectrometry has been widely used to identify the proteins that are differentially distributed among diseases for its high reliability and efficiency. To find out the potential difference of protein profiles in cerebrospinal fluids (CSF) between Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) and non-CJD patients, especially in the fraction ranging from 1–10 KD, the CSF samples of 40 probable sporadic CJD (sCJD) patients, 32 non-CJD cases with dementia and 17 non-CJD cases without dementia were separately pooled and enriched by the magnetic beads based weak cation exchange chromatography (MB-WCX). After trypsin digestion, each enriched CSF was separated and identified by RP-HPLC-ESI-QTOF MS/MS. In total, 42, 53 and 47 signals of proteins were identified in the pooled CSF fraction less than 10 KD of probable sCJD, non-CJD with dementia and non-CJD without dementia, respectively. Compared with that of probable sCJD, the similarity of CSF protein profiles of non-CJD with dementia (76.2%) were higher than that of non-CJD without dementia (57.1%). Nine CSF proteins were found to be specially observed in probable sCJD group. Those data may help to select the potential biomarkers for diagnosis of CJD. Additionally, further studies of the small segments of cellular proteins in CSF of CJD patients may also provide scientific clues for understanding the neuropathogenesis of TSEs.  相似文献

Angiostrongylus cantonensis is the causative agent of human eosinophilic meningoencephalitis in the Pacific Islands and Southeast Asia. Prominent eosinophilia in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of the patients has been used as one of the diagnostic criteria for the disease but the role(s) of the CSF eosinophils has remained to be elucidated. In this article, Kentaro Yoshimura, Hiroko Sugaya and Kazuto Ishido discuss the involvement of CSF eosinophils in the killing of intracranial worms and the damage of the central nervous system of the hosts, and consider why eosinophils in A. cantonensis infection play a more important role in nonpermissive hosts (including humans) than in the permissive rat host.  相似文献

Sensitivity of anti-Toxoplasma antibody (IgG) test by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was evaluated in comparison with indirect latex agglutination (ILA) using 2,016 paired human samples of serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). The samples were collected from neurologic patients in Korea with mass lesions in central nervous system (CNS) as revealed by imaging diagnosis (CT/MRI). When the sera were screened for anti-Toxoplasma antibody by ILA, 76 cases(3.8%) were positive (1:32 or higher titers). In the paired samples of CSF, no positive reactions were observed. When ELISA was performed using PBS extract of Percoll purified tachyzoites as antigen, cut-off absorbance was determined as 0.40 for serum and 0.27 for CSF tests. The antibody positive rates by ELISA were 7.0% in serum and 5.6% in CSF. Of them, 40 cases (2.0%) showed positive reactions in both serum and CSF. The antibody positive rates were higher in groups older than 40 years. The rates were higher in male (4.7% by ILA, 8.3% by ELISA) than in female (2.2% by ILA, 5.0% by ELISA). The rates in CSF showed no such sex difference. ELISA showed twice higher positive rates when serum was tested, and was sensitive enough to detect specific antibodies in CSF. Etiologic relations between positive antibody tests and CNS lesions remained unknown.  相似文献

Colony-stimulating factor (CSF) production by a series of cloned human T lymphocyte cell lines was examined by substituting cloned T cells for peripheral blood mononuclear cells in the feeder layer of a double-layer agar CFU-C assay system. Of 12 T cell lines tested, all produced CSF when stimulated by specific antigen, whereas CSF production in the absence of stimulation was generally negligible. In the case of soluble antigen-specific (ragweed or tetanus toxoid) clones, this required both nominal antigen and the appropriate MHC gene product on autologous antigen-presenting cells, whereas in the case of clones specific for EBV-transformed B cell lines (allogeneic or autologous), surface-bound EBV-related antigen and MHC was necessary. When tested in this manner, CSF production by different cloned T cells was heterogeneous in both amount and subclass. Thus, although most clones stimulated growth of granulocyte, monocyte, and eosinophil colonies, certain clones were identified which preferentially stimulated some colony types but not others. This heterogeneity was particularly evident with respect to eosinophil colony production. In addition, a soluble inhibitor of granulocyte colony growth was produced by one clone. These findings provide further support for the notion that antigen-specific T cells may, on activation, regulate myelopoiesis in a precise way, and provide a possible cellular basis for selective eosinophilia, monocytosis, or neutrophilia seen in certain disease states.  相似文献

A number of biomarkers (e.g. Abeta, tau) has been identified in Alzheimer's disease CSF. However, none fulfils the criteria of sensitivity and specificity (> 80%) needed for the development of an accurate diagnostic test. The lack of a suitable marker has prompted the search for new CSF biomarkers. In this study, the glycosylation of CSF proteins was examined using lectin blotting. Lumbar CSF was collected ante mortem from 22 non-Alzheimer's disease and 12 probable Alzheimer's disease cases and ventricular CSF collected post mortem from 7 non-Alzheimer's disease and 16 Alzheimer's disease cases confirmed by pathologic examination. When CSF glycoproteins were stained with wheat germ agglutinin (WGA), the staining intensity was found to be significantly lower in the Alzheimer's disease group. No difference in staining was found using other lectins (Canavalia ensiformis agglutinin, Ricinus communis agglutinin, Lens culinaris agglutinin). The measurement of WGA-reactive glycoproteins in CSF may be a useful biomarker for diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease.  相似文献

The aim of this retrospective study was to assess a ten-year experience in the treatment of rare complications of ventriculoperitoneal shunting--intraabdominal cerebrospinal fluid pseudocysts. At this time there are no data about incidence, clinical course and treatment of these complications in Croatia. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) abdominal pseudocyst is an uncommon but important complication of ventriculoperitoneal shunts. Retrospective data were obtained from 5 children with abdominal CSF pseudocysts, treated between 1996 and 2007. The incidence of intraabdominal CSF pseudocysts in our study is 2.9%. All patients were girls ranged in age from 4 to 12 years old (mean 8.8 years). In most cases etiology of hydrocephalus was congenital, idiopathic. Abdominal pain and distension were the most frequent clinical finding (4/5). Although infection has been reported as responsible for pseudocyst formation, we did not found it in our series. Laparotomy with cyst wall excision and catheter replacement was performed in 2/5 cases, and only cyst fluid aspiration with catheter replacement in 3/5 cases. Recurrence of the abdominal cyst was observed in one girl who was in terminal stadium of anaplastic ependymoma. It is our opinion that only catheter replacement and cyst fluid evacuation, as one of the treatment modalities, may be successful, even in large CSF intraperitoneal pseudocysts.  相似文献

Matsumoto Eosinophilia Shinshu (MES) is a rat strain that spontaneously develops eosinophilia and eosinophil-related inflammatory lesions in many organs. We performed chromosomal mapping of the gene for eosinophilia by breeding backcross progeny. The onset of eosinophilia appeared to be delayed in the progeny compared with that in MES, with the prevalence of eosinophilia in the backcross progeny at 12 weeks of age being 22.5%. Genetic linkage analysis with marker loci indicated the major locus for eosinophilia was located at the end of the q arm region of Chromosome 19 (between D19Rat8 and telomere). The locus was denoted eosinophilia 1 (eos1). These data will form the basis for identification of the eos1 gene using a reverse genetic approach, which will hopefully lead to elucidation of the mechanisms involved in eosinophilia and eosinophilopoiesis.  相似文献

The occurrence of intestinal parasites, their regional distribution and their relations to eosinophilia were studied in 133 human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) positive individuals from Honduras. After signing an informed consent, participants answered a socio-demographic and risk factor questionnaire, a complete physical examination, medical history, and a series of laboratory tests. All participants were HIV positive but not acquired immunodeficiency syndrome positive. Of them, 67% were co-infected with pathogen and non pathogen parasites. Overall occurrence of nematodes was: 44.3% for Trichuris trichiura, 24% for Ascaris lumbricoides, 12% for Hookworm and 7.5% for Strongyloides stercoralis. No cases of Giardia lamblia, acute amebiasis or cryptosporidiasis were diagnosed. Mean eosinophil percents for participants were consistently and significantly higher in infected than in non infected individuals: 22% for Hookworm vs 7.2% (p < 0.001), 11% for Trichuris compared to 5.2% (p < 0.001), 13.2% compared to 7.5% for S. stercoralis (p < 0.05), and 12% compared to 6% for Ascaris cases (p < 0.05). Helminths and non pathogenic protozoa, as single or mixed infections, occurred among the participants. There was a strong correlation between eosinophilia and helminthiasis infections; however, none was identified between CD4 levels and eosinophilia. Because parasitic infections aggravate malnutrition and promote a disbalanced Th2 response in a potentially immuno-compromised host, their effect on HIV disease progression needs further study, mainly in countries were HIV and parasitic infections are highly prevalent.  相似文献

Background

Encephalitis is parenchymal brain inflammation due to infectious or immune-mediated processes. However, in 15–60% the cause remains unknown. This study aimed to determine if the cytokine/chemokine-mediated host response can distinguish infectious from immune-mediated cases, and whether this may give a clue to aetiology in those of unknown cause.

Methods

We measured 38 mediators in serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of patients from the Health Protection Agency Encephalitis Study. Of serum from 78 patients, 38 had infectious, 20 immune-mediated, and 20 unknown aetiology. Of CSF from 37 patients, 20 had infectious, nine immune-mediated and eight unknown aetiology.

Results

Heat-map analysis of CSF mediator interactions was different for infectious and immune-mediated cases, and that of the unknown aetiology group was similar to the infectious pattern. Higher myeloperoxidase (MPO) concentrations were found in infectious than immune-mediated cases, in serum and CSF (p = 0.01 and p = 0.006). Serum MPO was also higher in unknown than immune-mediated cases (p = 0.03). Multivariate analysis selected serum MPO; classifying 31 (91%) as infectious (p = 0.008) and 17 (85%) as unknown (p = 0.009) as opposed to immune-mediated. CSF data also selected MPO classifying 11 (85%) as infectious as opposed to immune-mediated (p = 0.036). CSF neutrophils were detected in eight (62%) infective and one (14%) immune-mediated cases (p = 0.004); CSF MPO correlated with neutrophils (p<0.0001).

Conclusions

Mediator profiles of infectious aetiology differed from immune-mediated encephalitis; and those of unknown cause were similar to infectious cases, raising the hypothesis of a possible undiagnosed infectious cause. Particularly, neutrophils and MPO merit further investigation.  相似文献

Neonates are at high risk of meningitis and of resulting neurologic complications. Early recognition of neonates at risk of poor prognosis would be helpful in providing timely management. From January 2008 to June 2014, we enrolled 232 term neonates with bacterial meningitis admitted to 3 neonatology departments in Shanghai, China. The clinical status on the day of discharge from these hospitals or at a postnatal age of 2.5 to 3 months was evaluated using the Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS). Patients were classified into two outcome groups: good (167 cases, 72.0%, GOS = 5) or poor (65 cases, 28.0%, GOS = 1–4). Neonates with good outcome had less frequent apnea, drowsiness, poor feeding, bulging fontanelle, irritability and more severe jaundice compared to neonates with poor outcome. The good outcome group also had less pneumonia than the poor outcome group. Besides, there were statistically significant differences in hemoglobin, mean platelet volume, platelet distribution width, C-reaction protein, procalcitonin, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) glucose and CSF protein. Multivariate logistic regression analyses suggested that poor feeding, pneumonia and CSF protein were the predictors of poor outcome. CSF protein content was significantly higher in patients with poor outcome. The best cut-offs for predicting poor outcome were 1,880 mg/L in CSF protein concentration (sensitivity 70.8%, specificity 86.2%). After 2 weeks of treatment, CSF protein remained higher in the poor outcome group. High CSF protein concentration may prognosticate poor outcome in neonates with bacterial meningitis.  相似文献

Leptospirosis is a zoonotic disease caused by the pathogenic Leptospira spp. The clinical presentations are diverse, ranging from undifferentiated fever to fulminant disease including meningeal forms. The neurological leptospirosis forms are usually neglected. The aim of this study was to investigate leptospirosis as the cause of aseptic meningitis using different diagnostic techniques including the polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Thirty-nine cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples from patients presenting with meningeal abnormalities, predominance of lymphocytes and negative results by traditional microbiological tests were processed by leptospiral culture, anti-leptospiral antibody response and PCR. Leptospira spp DNA was detected in 23 (58.97%) of the CSF samples. Anti-leptospiral antibodies were found in 13 (33.33%) CSF samples. Twelve CSF samples were positive by PCR assay and negative by microscopic agglutination test (MAT) assay. Two CSF samples were positive by MAT and negative by PCR. The positive and negative agreement between both tests was 11 and 14, respectively. CSF samples from six cases of unknown diagnosis were positive by PCR assay. Eight cases showed positive results using PCR and MAT. Leptospirosis could be detected by PCR assay from the 3rd-26th day after illness onset. The sensitivity of the PCR was assessed with confirmed cases of leptospirosis (by MAT) and found to be 89.5%. All CSFs were negative by culture. PCR was found to be a powerful tool for diagnosing meningitis cases of leptospirosis. We recommend that it may be used as a supplementary diagnostic tool, especially in the early stages of the disease, when other diagnostic techniques such as serology are not sensitive.  相似文献

With the purpose of evaluating the available methodology for neurocysticercosis (NCC) diagnosis, 60 neurological patients were studied during a 4-year period in Honduras. Neurological evaluation, Computed Tomography (CT), cysticercosis Enzyme-Linked Immunoelectrotransfer blot (EITB) assay, electroencephalographic studies, and collection of epidemiological information were performed to assess a final diagnosis. The presenting clinical manifestations were: epileptic seizures (52%), headache without intracranial pressure (27%) and intracranial hypertension (10%). A protocol for the diagnosis of NCC is suggested. According to this protocol, patients with active (live) cysticercus and/or antibodies in Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) were diagnosed as definitive cases of NCC, whereas those with only brain calcifications were diagnosed as probable cases. NCC diagnosis was definitive in 14 (23%) patients, probable in 32 (54%) and ruled out in 14 (23%). Of the patients with epileptic seizures, six (19%) had definitive and 20 (65%) had probable NCC. Overall seropositivity was 28%. EITB positivity varied from 14 to 100%, and from 20 to 35% in definitive and probable cases of NCC, respectively. When compared to CT, EITB overall sensitivity for definitive, active cases, was 50% in serum and 63% in CSF. These results suggest that brain images combined with neurological evaluation remains the best approach for neurocysticercosis diagnosis, and that EITB, even though its variable sensitivity, offers valuable information, especially if performed in CSF.  相似文献

Background

Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) is a systemic ANCA-associated vasculitis characterized by necrotizing granulomatous inflammation and a predilection for the upper and lower respiratory tract. Eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) is also a systemic ANCA-associated vasculitis, but EGPA is characterized by eosinophilic as well as granulomatous inflammation and is more commonly associated with asthma and eosinophilia.Polyangiitis overlap syndrome is defined as systemic vasculitis that does not fit precisely into a single category of classical vasculitis classification and/or overlaps with more than one category. Several polyangiitis overlap syndromes have been identified, however, there are very few case reports of an overlap syndrome involving both GPA and EGPA in the medical literature.

Case presentation

We conducted a PUBMED literature review using key words ‘granulomatosis with polyangiitis,’ ‘Wegener’s,’ ‘GPA,’ ‘eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis,’ ‘Churg-Strauss,’ ‘EGPA,’ ‘overlap syndrome,’ ‘Wegener’s with eosinophilia,’ and ‘GPA with eosinophilia’ in English only journals from 1986 to 2017. Relevant case reports and review articles of overlap syndromes of GPA and EGPA were identified. We aim to report a unique case of GPA and EGPA overlap syndrome and review the cases that have been previously described.Between 1986 and 2017, we identified 15 cases that represent an overlap syndrome with compelling features of both GPA and EGPA. Patients ranged in age between 21 and 78. Of those whose gender was identified, 80 % of the patients were female. All cases described involved the lungs, 60 % reported sinus involvement, and more than 50 % displayed renal involvement. An overwhelming majority of patients were positive for c-ANCA and demonstrated eosinophilia (peripheral blood or tissue eosinophilia). A preponderance of the cases described were treated with systemic corticosteroids combined with an immunosuppressive/cytotoxic agents.

Conclusion

To our knowledge, there have been very few cases reported of an overlap syndrome of GPA and EGPA. Identification of patients with a polyangiitis overlap syndrome of GPA and EGPA is imperative as prognosis, longitudinal management and treatment modalities may differ between these entities.

OBJECTIVE: To illustrate the cytomorphologic features of pilocytic astrocytoma (PA) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples. STUDY DESIGN: A search of records from 1965 to 2001 was performed to identify all patients with a diagnosis of PA in whom CSF samples were examined. Slides from CSF samples originally reported as atypical, suspicious or positive were reviewed and the cytomorphologic features assessed. RESULTS: Two hundred ninety-three patients with a diagnosis of PA were identified. Of these, 44 had a total of 65 cytologic preparations of CSF. In 34 patients (77.2%) the CSF cytology was negative, in 5 (11.4%) either atypical or suspicious, and in 5 (11.4%) positive for neoplastic cells. The tumors in the 5 positive cases arose in the cerebellar hemispheres (2), cerebellar vermis (1), thalamus (1) and tectum with extension into the fourth ventricle (1). All positive samples were hypercellular, with an average of 5 cell clusters per case (range, 3-11). The clusters were composed of cohesive epithelioid cells with a mean of 8 cells per cluster. In addition, some cases had scattered, isolated, single cells. These single neoplastic cells had prominent, hairlike cytoplasmic processes. The cells in clusters appeared epithelioid, with oval nuclei, mild nuclear pleomorphism, finely or slightly coarsely granular chromatin and cobweblike cytoplasm. CONCLUSION: The cytomorphologic features of PAs recapitulate their histologic characteristics. The tumor cells are recognizable in CSF samples and readily distinguishable from histiocytes and ependymal cells.  相似文献
