Background

We investigated lateral dominance in the postural stability of single-leg stance with anteroposterior floor oscillations at various frequencies.

Methods

Thirty adults maintained a single-leg stance on a force platform for 20 seconds per trial. Trials were performed with no oscillation (static condition) and with anteroposterior floor oscillations (2.5-cm amplitude) at six frequencies: 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1.0, 1.25 and 1.5 Hz (dynamic condition). A set of three trials was performed on each leg in each oscillation frequency in random order. The mean speed of the center of pressure in the anteroposterior direction (CoPap) was calculated as an index of postural stability, and frequency analysis of CoPap sway was performed. Footedness for carrying out mobilizing activities was assessed with a questionnaire.

Results

CoPap speed exponentially increased as oscillation frequency increased in both legs. The frequency analysis of CoPap showed a peak <0.3 Hz at no oscillation. The frequency components at 0.25-Hz oscillation included common components with no oscillation and those at 1.5-Hz oscillation showed the maximum amplitude among all conditions. Postural stability showed no significant difference between left- and right-leg stance at no oscillation and oscillations ≤1.25 Hz, but at 1.5-Hz oscillation was significantly higher in the right-leg stance than in the left-leg stance. For the lateral dominance of postural stability at individual levels, the lateral difference in postural stability at no oscillation was positively correlated with that at 0.25-Hz oscillation (r = 0.51) and negatively correlated with that at 1.5-Hz oscillation (r = -0.53). For 70% of subjects, the dominant side of postural stability was different at no oscillation and 1.5-Hz oscillation. In the subjects with left- or right-side dominance at no oscillation, 94% or 38% changed their dominant side at 1.5-Hz oscillation, with a significant difference between these percentages. In the 1.5-Hz oscillation, 73% of subjects had concordance between the dominant side of postural stability and that of mobilizing footedness.

Conclusion

In static conditions, there was no lateral dominance of stability during single-leg stance. At 1.5-Hz oscillation, the highest frequency, right-side dominance of postural stability was recognized. Functional role in supporting leg may be divided between left and right legs according to the change of balance condition from static to dynamic.  相似文献

To investigate the vestibular and somatosensory interaction in human postural control, a galvanic vestibular stimulation of cosine bell shape resulting in a small forward or backward body lean was paired with three vibrations of both soleus muscles. The induced body lean was registered by the position of the center of foot pressure (CoP). During a quiet stance with eyes closed the vibration of both soleus muscles with frequency (of) 40 Hz, 60 Hz and 80 Hz resulted in the body lean backward with velocities related to the vibration frequencies. The vestibular galvanic stimulation with the head turned to the right caused forward or backward modification of CoP backward response to the soleus muscles vibration and peaked at 1.5-2 s following the onset of the vibration. The effect of the paired stimulation was larger than the summation of the vestibular stimulation during the quiet stance and a leg muscle vibration alone. The enhancement of the galvanic stimulation was related to the velocity of body lean induced by the leg muscle vibration. The galvanic vestibular stimulation during a faster body movement had larger effects than during a slow body lean or the quiet stance. The results suggest that velocity of a body postural movement or incoming proprioceptive signal from postural muscles potentiate the effects of simultaneous vestibular stimulations on posture.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to detect the characteristics of center of pressure (COP) movement during tiptoe standing (TS) compared to quiet standing (QS). Eight healthy subjects were asked to perform QS and TS on a force platform. During standing, surface electromyograms (EMGs) were recorded from the soleus (SOL), flexor hallucis brevis (FHB), medial gastrocnemius (MG), lateral gastrocnemius (LG), and tibialis anterior (TA) muscles. The path length and rectangular area of the COP trajectory were significantly larger during TS than during QS. In contrast, irrespective of standing condition, the scaling coefficients in the short and long regions were above and below 0.5, respectively. The coherence spectrum between the COP and EMG from the SOL and FHB muscles was statistically significant during TS at frequencies up to 17 Hz, while that for the QS was only significant below 1 Hz. In conclusion, the control of COP movement during TS was similar to that during QS despite large COP fluctuations during TS. Our results suggest that unstable posture during TS is compensated for by the activities of the SOL and FHB muscles, which enhance postural control.  相似文献

Although the soleus muscle comprises only 6% of the ankle plantar flexor mass in the rat, a major role in stance and walking has been ascribed to it. The purpose of this study was to determine if removal of the soleus muscle would result in adaptations in the remaining gastrocnemius and plantaris muscles due to the new demands for force production imposed on them during stance or walking. A second purpose was to determine whether the mass or the fiber type of the muscle(s) removed was a more important determinant of compensatory adaptations. Male Sprague-Dawley rats underwent bilateral removal of soleus muscle, plantaris muscle, or both muscles. For comparison, compensatory hypertrophy was induced in soleus and plantaris muscles by gastrocnemius muscle ablation. After forty days, synergist muscles remaining intact were removed. Mass, and oxidative, glycolytic, and contractile enzyme activities were determined. Despite its role in stance and slow walking, removal of the soleus muscle did not elicit a measurable alteration in muscle mass, or in citrate synthase, lactate dehydrogenase, or myofibrillar ATPase activity in gastrocnemius or plantaris muscles. Similarly, removal of the plantaris muscle, or soleus and plantaris muscles, had no effect on the gastrocnemius muscle, suggesting that this muscle was able to easily meet the new demands placed on it. These results suggest that amount of muscle mass removed, rather than fiber type, is the most important stimulus for compensatory hypertrophy. They also suggest that slow-twitch motor units in the gastrocnemius muscle play an important role during stance and locomotion in the intact animal.  相似文献

Distinguishing gastrocnemius and soleus muscle function is relevant for treating gait disorders in which abnormal plantarflexor activity may contribute to pathological movement patterns. Our objective was to use experimental and computational analysis to determine the influence of gastrocnemius and soleus activity on lower limb movement, and determine if anatomical variability of the gastrocnemius affected its function. Our hypothesis was that these muscles exhibit distinct functions, with the gastrocnemius inducing limb flexion and the soleus inducing limb extension. To test this hypothesis, the gastrocnemius or soleus of 20 healthy participants was electrically stimulated for brief periods (90 ms) during mid- or terminal stance of a random gait cycle. Muscle function was characterized by the induced change in sagittal pelvis, hip, knee, and ankle angles occurring during the 200 ms after stimulation onset. Results were corroborated with computational forward dynamic gait models, by perturbing gastrocnemius or soleus activity during similar portions of the gait cycle. Mid- and terminal stance gastrocnemius stimulation induced posterior pelvic tilt, hip flexion and knee flexion. Mid-stance gastrocnemius stimulation also induced ankle dorsiflexion. In contrast mid-stance soleus stimulation induced anterior pelvic tilt, knee extension and plantarflexion, while late-stance soleus stimulation induced relatively little change in motion. Model predictions of induced hip, knee, and ankle motion were generally in the same direction as those of the experiments, though the gastrocnemius? results were shown to be quite sensitive to its knee-to-ankle moment arm ratio.  相似文献

Joint coordination plays a critical role in maintaining postural stability, yet there is limited existing work describing joint coordination patterns in the time–frequency domain. Here, two-joint coordination was examined during quiet upright stance. A wavelet coherence method was applied to quantify the coherence between ankle–trunk and ankle–head angles in the sagittal and frontal planes. Wavelet coherence results indicated intermittent joint coordination particularly for frequencies of 2.5–4.0 Hz. Coherence results were further processed to estimate mean time intervals between coherence instances, coherence burst frequency, and the ratio of in-phase versus anti-phase behaviors. Time intervals between intermittent coherence were 1.3–1.5 sec, coherence burst frequency was ~0.4 Hz, and phase ratios were ~1.0. Intermittent “bursting” of postural muscles may account for the finding of intermittent coherence in the noted frequency band. Some age and/or gender differences in coherence were found, and may be related to comparable differences in postural control ability or strategies. Results from application of this new method support earlier evidence that kinematic coordination is achieved intermittently rather than continuously during quiet upright stance. This method may provide richer information regarding such coordination, and could be a useful approach in future studies.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to describe and explain how individual muscles control mediolateral balance during normal walking. Biomechanical modeling and experimental gait data were used to quantify individual muscle contributions to the mediolateral acceleration of the center of mass during the stance phase. We tested the hypothesis that the hip, knee, and ankle extensors, which act primarily in the sagittal plane and contribute significantly to vertical support and forward progression, also accelerate the center of mass in the mediolateral direction. Kinematic, force plate, and muscle EMG data were recorded simultaneously for five healthy subjects who walked at their preferred speeds. The body was modeled as a 10-segment, 23 degree-of-freedom skeleton, actuated by 54 muscles. Joint moments obtained from inverse dynamics were decomposed into muscle forces by solving an optimization problem that minimized the sum of the squares of the muscle activations. Muscles contributed significantly to the mediolateral acceleration of the center of mass throughout stance. Muscles that generated both support and forward progression (vasti, soleus, and gastrocnemius) also accelerated the center of mass laterally, in concert with the hip adductors and the plantarflexor everters. Gravity accelerated the center of mass laterally for most of the stance phase. The hip abductors, anterior and posterior gluteus medius, and, to a much lesser extent, the plantarflexor inverters, actively controlled balance by accelerating the center of mass medially.  相似文献

Walking is a motor task requiring coordination of many muscles. Previous biomechanical studies, based primarily on analyses of the net ankle moment during stance, have concluded different functional roles for the plantar flexors. We hypothesize that some of the disparities in interpretation arise because of the effects of the uniarticular and biarticular muscles that comprise the plantar flexor group have not been separated. Furthermore, we believe that an accurate determination of muscle function requires quantification of the contributions of individual plantar flexor muscles to the energetics of individual body segments. In this study, we examined the individual contributions of the ankle plantar flexors (gastrocnemius (GAS); soleus (SOL)) to the body segment energetics using a musculoskeletal model and optimization framework to generate a forward dynamics simulation of normal walking at 1.5 m/s. At any instant in the gait cycle, the contribution of a muscle to support and forward progression was defined by its contribution to trunk vertical and horizontal acceleration, respectively, and its contribution to swing initiation by the mechanical energy it delivers to the leg in pre-swing (i.e., double-leg stance prior to toe-off). GAS and SOL were both found to provide trunk support during single-leg stance and pre-swing. In early single-leg stance, undergoing eccentric and isometric activity, they accelerate the trunk vertically but decelerate forward trunk progression. In mid single-leg stance, while isometric, GAS delivers energy to the leg while SOL decelerates it, and SOL delivers energy to the trunk while GAS decelerates it. In late single-leg stance through pre-swing, though GAS and SOL both undergo concentric activity and accelerate the trunk forward while decelerating the downward motion of the trunk (i.e., providing forward progression and support), they execute different energetic functions. The energy produced from SOL accelerates the trunk forward, whereas GAS delivers almost all its energy to accelerate the leg to initiate swing. Although GAS and SOL maintain or accelerate forward motion in mid single-leg stance through pre-swing, other muscles acting at the beginning of stance contribute comparably to forward progression. In summary, throughout single-leg stance both SOL and GAS provide vertical support, in mid single-leg stance SOL and GAS have opposite energetic effects on the leg and trunk to ensure support and forward progression of both the leg and trunk, and in pre-swing only GAS contributes to swing initiation.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to characterize biomechanically three different toe-walking gait patterns, artificially induced in six neurologically intact subjects and to compare them to selected cases of pathological toe-walking. The subjects, equipped with lightweight mechanical exoskeleton with elastic ropes attached to the left leg's heel on one end and on shank and thigh on the other end in a similar anatomical locations where soleus and gastrocnemius muscles attach to skeleton, walked at speed of approximately 1m/s along the walkway under four experimental conditions: normal walking (NW), soleus contracture emulation (SOL), gastrocnemius contracture emulation (GAS) and emulation of both soleus and gastrocnemius contractures (SOLGAS). Reflective markers and force platform data were collected and ankle, knee and hip joint angles, moments and powers were calculated using inverse dynamic model for both legs. Characteristic peaks of averaged kinematic and kinetic patterns were compared among all four experimental conditions in one-way ANOVA. In the left leg SOL contracture mainly influenced the ankle angle trajectory, while GAS and SOLGAS contractures influenced the ankle and knee angle trajectories. GAS and SOLGAS contractures significantly increased ankle moment during midstance as compared to SOL contracture and NW. All three toe-walking experimental conditions exhibited significant power absorption in the ankle during loading response, which was absent in the NW condition, while during preswing significant decrease in power absorption as compared to NW was seen. In the knee joint SOL contracture diminished, GAS contracture increased while SOLGAS contracture approximately halved knee extensor moment during midstance as compared to NW. All three toe-walking experimental conditions decreased hip range of motion, hip flexor moment and power requirements during stance phase. Main difference in the right leg kinematic and kinetic patterns was seen in the knee moment trajectory, where significant increase in the knee extensor moment took place in terminal stance for GAS and SOLGAS experimental conditions as compared to SOL and NW. The kinetic trajectories under SOL and GAS experimental conditions were qualitatively compared to two selected clinical cases showing considerable similarity. This implies that distinct differences in kinetics between SOL, GAS and SOLGAS experimental conditions, as described in this paper, may be clinically relevant in determining the relative contribution of soleus and gastrocnemius muscles contractures to toe-walking in particular pathological gait.  相似文献

Seventeen new-born piglets of hybrid stock were tested for defects of neuromuscular transmission by stimulation electromyography (EMG). Nine of these displayed extreme symptoms of muscle weakness (splayleg), while the others were their clinically normal littermates. Muscles from four different functional groups were investigated, including the gastrocnemius, tibialis anterior, knee flexors and thigh adductors. Repetitive stimulation of muscle nerves at 3 Hz gave comparable peak-to-peak amplitudes of the EMG response in splayleg and control piglets (mean values from 5 to 10 mV). The lowest mean EMG response values at this stimulation frequency were found in splayleg adductor muscles of the thigh which were not, however significantly different from the controls. Higher frequencies of stimulation (30, 50 and 100 Hz), in general, led to a less pronounced decrease of EMG amplitude in splayleg piglet muscles than in the controls, with the exception of knee flexors. Neither splayleg nor control muscles exhibited post-activation exhaustion or post-tetanic potentiation. It is being concluded from these results that congenital myofibrillar hypoplasia is not primarily a myasthenia-like syndrome, but that either excitation-contraction coupling or the contractile mechanism itself are primarily affected.  相似文献

In this study we examined the influence of complete spinal cord injury (SCI) on affected skeletal muscle morphology within 6 months of SCI. Magnetic resonance (MR) images of the leg and thigh were taken as soon as patients were clinically stable, on average 6 weeks post injury, and 11 and 24 weeks after SCI to assess average muscle cross-sectional area (CSA). MR images were also taken from nine able-bodied controls at two time points separated from one another by 18 weeks. The controls showed no change in any variable over time. The patients showed differential atrophy (P = 0.0001) of the ankle plantar or dorsi flexor muscles. The average CSA of m. gastrocnemius and m. soleus decreased by 24% and 12%, respectively (P = 0.0001). The m. tibialis anterior CSA showed no change (P = 0.3644). As a result of this muscle-specific atrophy, the ratio of average CSA of m. gastrocnemius to m. soleus, m. gastrocnemius to m. tibialis anterior and m. soleus to m. tibialis anterior declined (P = 0.0001). The average CSA of m, quadriceps femoris, the hamstring muscle group and the adductor muscle group decreased by 16%, 14% and 16%, respectively (P< or =0.0045). No differential atrophy was observed among these thigh muscle groups, thus the ratio of their CSAs did not change (P = 0.6210). The average CSA of atrophied skeletal muscle in the patients was 45-80% of that of age- and weight-matched able-bodied controls 24 weeks after injury. In conclusion, the results of this study suggest that there is marked loss of contractile protein early after SCI which differs among affected skeletal muscles. While the mechanism(s) responsible for loss of muscle size are not clear, it is suggested that the development of muscular imbalance as well as diminution of muscle mass would compromise force potential early after SCI.  相似文献

Twitch speeds and potentiating capacities have been determined for human medial and lateral gastrocnemius and soleus muscles. The experiments involved and application of submaximal stimuli to the respective muscle bellies, with monitoring of the evoked compound action potentials (M-waves) during repetitive stimulation. Contrary to an earlier report, the lateral gastrocnemius was found to have a significantly shorter mean contraction time (100.0 +/- 10.8 ms) than the soleus (156.5 +/- 14.7 ms) and this value was also significantly different from that of the medial gastrocnemius (113.7 +/- 19.6 ms). The mean half-relaxation time for each muscle also differed significantly from those for the other two muscles. A further contrast between the muscles was that potentiation of the twitch, following a 3-s tetanus at 50 Hz, was significantly greater in the lateral gastrocnemius than in soleus (mean values 60.4 +/- 43.1% and 2.6 +/- 3.3% respectively.  相似文献

During contractions, there is a net efflux of phosphate from skeletal muscle, likely because of an elevated intracellular inorganic phosphate (P(i)) concentration. Over time, contracting muscle could incur a substantial phosphate deficit unless P(i) uptake rates were increased during contractions. We used the perfused rat hindquarter preparation to assess [(32)P]P(i) uptake rates in muscles at rest or over a range of energy expenditures during contractions at 0.5, 3, or 5 Hz for 30 min. P(i) uptake rates were reduced during contractions in a pattern that was dependent on contraction frequency and fiber type. In soleus and red gastrocnemius, [(32)P]P(i) uptake rates declined by approximately 25% at 0.5 Hz and 50-60% at 3 and 5 Hz. Uptake rates in white gastrocnemius decreased by 65-75% at all three stimulation frequencies. These reductions in P(i) uptake are not likely confounded by changes in precursor [(32)P]P(i) specific activity in the interstitium. In soleus and red gastrocnemius, declines in P(i) uptake rates were related to energy expenditure over the contraction duration. These data imply that P(i) uptake in skeletal muscle is acutely modulated during contractions and that decreases in P(i) uptake rates, in combination with expected increases in P(i) efflux, exacerbate the net loss of phosphate from the cell. Enhanced uptake of P(i) must subsequently occur because skeletal muscle typically maintains a relatively constant total phosphate pool.  相似文献

1. The effect of hypocaloric feeding (25% of normal food intake for 21 days) of rats on the enzymic and metabolic adaptations in the gastrocnemius, plantaris and soleus muscles was studied. 2. In control and hypocaloric rats the muscle relaxation rates at 100 Hz were 35.76 and 11.38% force loss/10 ms respectively. Control rats exhibited enhanced force of muscle contraction as the frequency of stimulation increased from 10 to 100 Hz, with maximum force being at 100 Hz. Hypocaloric rats exhibited a decrease in the increment of force being exerted at high frequencies, with maintenance of force at lower stimulatory frequencies. 3. In muscles of hypocaloric rats, there were significant decreases in the maximal activities of hexokinase (17.6-37.0%), 6-phosphofructokinase (22.7-34.2%), pyruvate kinase (21.2-36.0%), citrate synthase (34.1-41.5%), oxoglutarate dehydrogenase (29.4-52.4%) and 3-hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase (26.7-32.1%), whereas the activities of glycogen phosphorylase increased (23.8-43.4%) compared with control values. 4. In soleus-muscle strip preparations of hypocaloric rats, there were significant decreases in the rates of lactate production (28.1%) and glucose oxidation (32.6%) compared with control preparations. 5. Mitochondrial preparations from muscles of hypocaloric rats incubated with various substrates exhibited decreased rates of oxygen uptake compared with control preparations. 6. In muscles of hypocaloric rats (gastrocnemius and soleus), there were significant decreases in the concentrations of glycogen (P less than 0.001) and phosphocreatine (P less than 0.001) and increases in those of pyruvate (P less than 0.001), lactate (P less than 0.001) and ADP (P less than 0.001), whereas those of ATP and AMP remained unchanged. 7. Calculated [lactate]/[pyruvate] and [ATP]/[ADP] ratios exhibited significant increases (P less than 0.05) and decreases (P less than 0.05) in muscles of hypocaloric rats respectively. 8. The results are discussed in relation to the genesis of muscle dysfunction caused by malnutrition.  相似文献

EMG median power frequency of the calf muscles was investigated during an exhausting treadmill exercise. This exercise was an uphill run, the average endurance time was 1.5 min. Median power frequency of the calf muscles declined by more than 10% during this exercise. In addition EMG median power frequency of isometric contractions of the same muscles was measured before and in one minute intervals for 10 min after this run. Immediately after the run isometric median power frequency had declined by less than 5% for the soleus muscle, more than 10% for the gastrocnemius medialis and gastrocnemius lateralis muscles. In the 10 min following exercise the isometric median power frequency increased to pre-execise levels. Maybe the median power frequency shift to lower frequencies during dynamic exercise can be interpreted as a sign of local muscle fatigue.  相似文献

Energy storage and return (ESAR) foot-ankle prostheses have been developed in an effort to improve gait performance in lower-limb amputees. However, little is known about their effectiveness in providing the body segment mechanical energetics normally provided by the ankle muscles. The objective of this theoretical study was to use muscle-actuated forward dynamics simulations of unilateral transtibial amputee and non-amputee walking to identify the contributions of ESAR prostheses to trunk support, forward propulsion and leg swing initiation and how individual muscles must compensate in order to produce a normal, symmetric gait pattern. The simulation analysis revealed the ESAR prosthesis provided the necessary trunk support, but it could not provide the net trunk forward propulsion normally provided by the plantar flexors and leg swing initiation normally provided by the biarticular gastrocnemius. To compensate, the residual leg gluteus maximus and rectus femoris delivered increased energy to the trunk for forward propulsion in early stance and late stance into pre-swing, respectively, while the residual iliopsoas delivered increased energy to the leg in pre- and early swing to help initiate swing. In the intact leg, the soleus, gluteus maximus and rectus femoris delivered increased energy to the trunk for forward propulsion in the first half of stance, while the iliopsoas increased the leg energy it delivered in pre- and early swing. Thus, the energy stored and released by the ESAR prosthesis combined with these muscle compensations was able to produce a normal, symmetric gait pattern, although various neuromuscular and musculoskeletal constraints may make such a pattern non-optimal.  相似文献

Mechanical oscillation (vibration) is an osteogenic stimulus for bone in animal models and may hold promise as an anti-osteoporosis measure in humans with spinal cord injury (SCI). However, the level of reflex induced muscle contractions associated with various loads (g force) during limb segment oscillation is uncertain. The purpose of this study was to determine whether certain gravitational loads (g forces) at a fixed oscillation frequency (30 Hz) increases muscle reflex activity in individuals with and without SCI. Nine healthy subjects and two individuals with SCI sat with their hip and knee joints at 90° and the foot secured on an oscillation platform. Vertical mechanical oscillations were introduced at 0.3, 0.6, 1.2, 3 and 5g force for 20 s at 30 Hz. Non-SCI subjects received the oscillation with and without a 5% MVC background contraction. Peak soleus and tibialis anterior (TA) EMG were normalized to M-max. Soleus and TA EMG were <2.5% of M-max in both SCI and non-SCI subjects. The greatest EMG occurred at the highest acceleration (5g). Low magnitude mechanical oscillation, shown to enhance bone anabolism in animal models, did not elicit high levels of reflex muscle activity in individuals with and without SCI. These findings support the g force modulated background muscle activity during fixed frequency vibration. The magnitude of muscle activity was low and likely does not influence the load during fixed frequency oscillation of the tibia.  相似文献

Muscle moment arms at the human knee and ankle were estimated from muscle length changes measured as a function of joint flexion angle in cadaver specimens. Nearly all lower-leg muscles were studied: extensor digitorum longus, extensor hallucis longus, flexor digitorum longus, flexor hallucis longus, gastrocnemius lateralis, gastrocnemius medialis, peroneus brevis, peroneus longus, peroneus tertius, plantaris, soleus, tibialis anterior, and tibialis posterior. Noise in measured muscle length was filtered by means of quintic splines. Moment arms of the mm. gastrocnemii appear to be much more dependent on joint flexion angles than was generally assumed by other investigators. Some consequences for earlier analyses are mentioned.  相似文献

The present study examined, whether or not mechanomyogram (MMG) amplitude and frequency component could reflect the contractile properties of the triceps surae muscles, composed of relatively slow soleus (SOL) and fast medial gastrocnemius (MG), during experimentally induced hypothermia condition. In eight male subjects, lying in prone position, supramaximal single twitch and repetitive electrical stimulations at 10 Hz were applied at the intramuscular temperatures of control (34 degrees C), 15, 20, and 25 degrees C, respectively. The hypothermia induced substantial reduction in muscle contractile properties, e.g. prolonged twitch contraction and half relaxation times, resulted in a highly significant reduction in the fluctuation of force signal during the repetitive stimulations. These changes were almost mirrored by the similar and significant reductions in the MMG amplitude in both SOL and MG. Power spectrum analysis revealed that peak frequency components of MMG and fluctuation of force were almost matched with the applied stimulation frequencies, independent of the temperature condition. These results strongly suggest that MMG analysis could be employed to study muscle contractile properties varying across different physiological conditions.  相似文献

Muscle bloodflow and the rate of glucose uptake and phosphorylation were measured in vivo in rats 7 days after unilateral femoral artery ligation and section. Bloodflow was determined by using radiolabelled microspheres. At rest, bloodflow to the gastrocnemius, plantaris and soleus muscles of the ligated limb was similar to their respective mean contralateral control values; however, bilateral sciatic nerve stimulation at 1 Hz caused a less pronounced hyperaemic response in the muscles of the ligated limb, being 59, 63 and 49% of their mean control values in the gastrocnemius, plantaris and soleus muscles respectively. The rate of glucose utilization was determined by using the 2-deoxy[3H]glucose method [Ferré, Leturque, Burnol, Penicaud & Girard (1985) Biochem. J. 228, 103-110]. At rest, the rate of glucose uptake and phosphorylation was statistically significantly increased in the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles of the ligated limb, being 126 and 140% of the mean control values respectively. Bilateral sciatic nerve stimulation at 1 Hz caused a 3-5-fold increase in the rate of glucose utilization by the ligated and contralateral control limbs; furthermore, the rate of glucose utilization was significantly increased in the muscles of the ligated limb, being 140, 129 and 207% of their mean control values respectively. For the range of bloodflow to normally perfused skeletal muscle at rest or during isometric contraction determined in the present study, a linear correlation between the rate of glucose utilization and bloodflow can be demonstrated. Applying similar methods of regression analysis to glucose utilization and bloodflow to muscles of the ligated limb reveals a similar linear correlation. However, the rate of glucose utilization at a given bloodflow is increased in muscles of the ligated limb, indicating an adaptation of skeletal muscle to hypoperfusion.  相似文献
