Hand surface area (HSA) has been utilized for burned skin area estimation in burn therapy, heat exchange in thermal physiology, exposure assessment in occupational toxicology, and the development of manual equipment/ protective gloves in ergonomics. The purpose of this study was to determine the hand surface area to the total body surface area (BSA) and derive a formula for estimating HSA. Thirty-four Korean males (20-60 years old; 158.5-187.5 cm in height; 48.5-103.1 kg in body weight) and thirty-one Korean females (20-63 years old; 140.6-173.1 cm; 36.8-106.1 kg) participated as subjects. The HSA and BSA of 65 subjects were directly measured using alginate. The measurements showed 1) the surface area of the hand had a mean of 448 (371-540) cm(2) for males, and 392 (297-482) cm(2) for females. 2) The hand as a percentage of the total body surface area for males and females was 2.5% and 2.4% respectively, showing no significant difference. 3) The hand as a percentage of BSA by body shape was 2.5% for the lean group and 2.3% for overweight people (p=0.001). 4) When estimating the surface area of a hand, formulae based on hand length or hand circumference were more valid than formulae based on height and body weight. None of the equations frequently used to predict body surface area (BSA) has been validated for obese patients. We applied the principles of body size scaling to derive an improved equation predicting BSA solely from a patient's weight. Forty-five patients weighing from 51.3 to 248.6 kg had their height and weight measured on a calibrated scale and their BSA calculated by a geometric method. Data were combined with a large series of published BSA estimates. BSA prediction with the commonly used Du Bois equation underestimated BSA in obese patients by as much as 20%. The equation we derived to relate BSA to body weight was a power function: BSA (m(2)) = 0.1173 x Wt (kg)(0.6466). Below 10 kg, this equation deviated significantly from the BSA vs. body weight curve, necessitating a different set of coefficients: BSA (m(2)) = 0.1037 x Wt (kg)(0.6724). Covariance of height and weight for patients weighing <80 kg reduced the Du Bois BSA-predicting equation to a power function, explaining why it provides good BSA predictions for normal-size patients but fails with obesity.  相似文献

研究翘嘴鲌的年龄结构与生长特征可为探其繁殖、性成熟年龄、存活率等习性积累有效数据, 并可为优化鱼类种群结构、科学利用其种质资源提供参考依据。以2016年5月至2017年4月逐月于淀山湖采集到的452尾翘嘴鲌(Culter alburnus)为研究材料, 研究其年龄结构与生长特征间的紧密联系。结果表明: 翘嘴鲌体长15.32—77.91 cm; 体重范围43—5567 g。雌雄群体间的体长和体重的差异不显著(P>0.05), 体长和体重拟合关系式为W=0.00002L2.9211 (R2=0.9143, n=452), 符合匀速生长特性; 选用鳞片鉴定年龄、测量鳞径, 并建立von Berta-lanffy生长方程, Lt=99.65[1–e–0.1357(t+0.6287)]; Wt=11874.27[1–e–0.1357(t+0.6287)]2.9211。采集的翘嘴鲌样本由1—6龄组成, 优势年龄组3龄, 占样本总数的55.71%, 表明生长趋于低龄化、小型化; 生长拐点年龄为7.2711龄时对应的体长和体重分别为65.54 cm和3471.79 g。  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine the body surface area (BSA) based on the alginate method, to derive formulae for estimating BSA, and to compare the error of the present formula to previous formulas obtained from other countries. We directly measured the entire body surface area of 34 males (20-60 years old, 158.5-187.5 cm in height, 48.5-103.1 kg in body weight) and 31 females (20-63 years old, 140.6-173.1 cm, 36.8-106.1 kg) using alginate. The measurements showed that the BSA had a mean of 18,339 cm(2) (15,416-22,753 cm(2)) for males, and 16,452 cm(2) (12,825-22,025 cm(2)) for females. Based on these measurements, a regression model to estimate BSA was derived: Estimated BSA (cm(2))=73.31 Height (cm)(0.725) x Weight (kg)(0.425) (r(2)=0.999). The mean error of the formula was -0.1%, and did not show any significant difference by gender or body shape. When applied to the datasets (n=506) composed of various races (Caucasians, Africans, and Asians), the mean error of the formula was 0.4% and was smaller than that of DuBois & DuBois's, Gehan & George's, and Mosteller's formulas when applied to the same datasets. The errors of the three previous formulas were also within 2%. Overall, formulas based on the DuBois exponent (Weight(0.425) Height (0.725)) did not show any tendency of overestimation or underestimation by body shape, but other BSA-formulae showed differences by body shape. The present BSA formula has shown good accuracy in Korean adults of all weight categories compared to traditional formulas.  相似文献

PurposeBody surface area (BSA) is an important measurement for many thermophysiological, pharmaceutical, toxicological, environmental, and military applications. Unfortunately, BSA is difficult to quantify, and existing prediction methods are not optimized for contemporary populations.MethodsThe present study analyzed data body measurements from 5603 male and female participants of a US Army Anthropometric Survey to determine optimal methods for estimating BSA in modern US Army Soldiers. This data included 94 individual body measurements as well as three dimensional (3D) whole body scans for each participant. We used this data to assess and compared 15 existing equations to the measured data. We also derived best fitting nonlinear regression models for estimating BSA from different combinations of sex, height, and weight and iteratively included the remaining 91 measurements to determine which combinations resulted in the highest goodness-of-fit.ResultsWe found that inclusion of armspan measurements as a third body dimension maximized the model goodness-of-fit.ConclusionSome of the existing formulae provide reasonable estimates of 3D-scanner derived BSA; while our new formulae derived from this study allows for more accurate estimates of BSA using one or more common input variables.  相似文献

A sample of 1931 Israeli infants was measured for body weight (WT), length (HT) and head circumference (HC) for approximately 2 years. The Count model with 3 parameters was chosen as the best fitting and most parsimonious function to approximate growth of all 3 studied traits. In the model parameter a relates to birth indices, b--to velocity of growth, and c--to rapid early childhood growth, or acceleration. Assuming a difference in growth patterns in the periods of different length, the whole sample was divided into 3 groups: 1) infants with last measurement around the age of 12 months; 2) infants with last measurement around the age of 18 months, and 3) infants with last measurement around the age of 24 months. The individuals measured up to 12 months were presented in all three groups. 27 curve fitting parameters, corresponding to 3 different follow-up intervals for WT, HT and HC were computed for each individual. A high correlation was detected between the a parameters regardless of time interval for 3 measured traits. A negative correlation was found between b and c parameters within the same time interval. A consistent positive correlation was indicated between a and b parameters, especially for body length and head circumference. A principal component analysis extracted five independent factors explaining 88.1% of the total variance. Three first factors retained parameters b and c, describing growth rate and pattern of each trait separately, namely, F1 was responsible for head circumference, F2 was a body length factor, F3 was a body weight factor. F4 extracted all birth indices, observed (HC0, HT0 and WT0) and expected (parameters a). The composition of principal factors allowed us to assume that there might be a strong involvement of a pleiotropic genetic source in determination of birth size traits and an independent genetic source controlling the pattern of growth for each trait separately.  相似文献

Heat capacity (HC) has an important role in the temperature regulation process, particularly in dealing with the heat load. The actual measurement of the body HC is complicated and is generally estimated by body-composition-specific data. This study compared the previously known HC estimating equations and sought how to define HC using simple anthropometric indices such as weight and body surface area (BSA) in the Korean population. Six hundred participants were randomly selected from a pool of 902 healthy volunteers aged 20 to 70 years for the training set. The remaining 302 participants were used for the test set. Body composition analysis using multi-frequency bioelectrical impedance analysis was used to access body components including body fat, water, protein, and mineral mass. Four different HCs were calculated and compared using a weight-based HC (HC_Eq1), two HCs estimated from fat and fat-free mass (HC_Eq2 and HC_Eq3), and an HC calculated from fat, protein, water, and mineral mass (HC_Eq4). HC_Eq1 generally produced a larger HC than the other HC equations and had a poorer correlation with the other HC equations. HC equations using body composition data were well-correlated to each other. If HC estimated with HC_Eq4 was regarded as a standard, interestingly, the BSA and weight independently contributed to the variation of HC. The model composed of weight, BSA, and gender was able to predict more than a 99% variation of HC_Eq4. Validation analysis on the test set showed a very high satisfactory level of the predictive model. In conclusion, our results suggest that gender, BSA, and weight are the independent factors for calculating HC. For the first time, a predictive equation based on anthropometry data was developed and this equation could be useful for estimating HC in the general Korean population without body-composition measurement.  相似文献

Weight‐for‐length during the early postnatal period is a critical predictor of subsequent body composition and metabolic risk. This study was designed to analyze change in weight‐for‐length status according to birth weight in early infancy. Data were collected for 267 infants enrolled in the Jackson County Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program. Postnatal measurements were collected at a clinic visit between birth and 12 weeks of age (mean = 5.7 weeks). Changes inWHO z‐scores (weight, length, weight‐for‐length) between birth and the clinic visit were calculated. Infants were classified as exclusively breastfed or as formula‐fed. Ethnicity was coded as Hispanic or non‐Hispanic. Infants were classified based on birth weight z‐score as lower ( +1 SD). Multiple regression models tested birth weight, demographic factors, and feeding as predictors of z‐score change measures. Demographic factors and feeding were also tested as moderators of the effects of birth weight. Lower birth weight infants displayed an increase in weight‐for‐length z‐score between birth and the clinic visit. Change in weight‐for‐length was associated with significant increase in weight z‐score but not in length z‐score. Higher birth weight predicted decrease in weight and length z‐scores but did not predict change in weight‐for‐length. Hispanic ethnicity predicted decrease in length z‐score and increase in weight‐for‐length z‐score but did not moderate effects of birth weight. Increase in weight‐for‐length among lower birth weight infants and persistence of high weight‐for‐length among higher birth weight infants may reflect phenotypic adjustments that are maladaptive in adverse dietary environments. 目的:了解高危儿随访情况并对其父母生命质量进行调查。方法:选取2017年5月~2019年5月于西安交通大学医学院附属三二〇一医院儿童保健科就诊的400例高危儿作为研究对象,分析400例高危儿的高危因素,统计随访次数,分析随访次数1~2次的高危儿的失访原因,同时采用SF-36量表评估高危儿父母与正常儿父母的生命质量。结果:按照占比从高到低的顺序,400例高危儿的高危因素分别为早产、低出生体重、高胆红素血症、窒息和(或)缺氧缺血性脑病、颅内出血、母亲高危因素、吸入性肺炎及其他,占比分别为74.00%、18.50%、13.25%、6.75%、2.75%、2.50%、1.25%、2.00%。400例高危儿中随访次数1~2次183例,占比45.75%,3~5次57例,占比14.25%,≥6次人数160例,占比40.00%。183例随访次数1~2次高危儿失访原因主要是有问题再来医院、孩子正常、不了解随访重要性、自己有育儿经验、孩子小,不方便等。高危儿父母生理机能、生理职能、躯体疼痛、一般健康状况、精力、社会功能、情感职能、精神健康评分均低于正常儿父母(均P<0.05)。结论:高危儿的随访失访率相对较高,其主要原因可能与父母的主观意识有关,此外,高危儿父母生命质量降低,临床工作中可通过加强高危儿系统管理以及对高危儿父母的宣教力度,从而降低失访率,提高高危儿父母的生命质量。  相似文献

目的:评估深度水解配方奶(eHPF)在不同体重早产儿早期喂养中临床应用效果。方法:选取2017年9月至2018年12月出生的早产儿,分为极低出生体重儿组(体重1000-1500g之间)62例和低出生体重儿(体重1500-2000g之间)100例,每组再随机分为两组,分别予以深度水解蛋白奶(eHPF)和早产儿配方奶(SPF)喂养。极低出生体重儿组于12小时后开始微量喂养,低出生体重儿12小时内适量喂养;极低出生体重儿组深度水解蛋白奶喂养2周后改早产儿奶喂养,低出生体重儿组深度水解蛋白奶1周后改早产儿奶喂养。比较深度水解蛋白奶在不同体重早产儿早期喂养中的临床应用效果,不同体重早产儿恢复出生体重时间、每日体重增长速度、胃管留置时间、完全肠内喂养天数、住院天数、喂养不耐受发生率、宫外发育迟缓发生率及尿素氮、碱性磷酸酶指标。结果:深度水解蛋白喂养组极低出生体重儿/低出生体重儿恢复出生体重天数、完全肠道喂养天数、胃管留置时间、住院天数较早产儿奶喂养组明显缩短(P0.05),每天体重增长优于早产儿组,喂养不耐受、宫外发育迟缓发生率明显低于早产儿组(P0.05),尿素氮、碱性磷酸酶无统计学差异(P0.05)。结论:深度水解蛋白奶用于不同体重早产儿早期喂养效果明显优于早产儿配方奶,其更有助于早产儿的生长发育。  相似文献

对金沙江下游中华间吸鳅的食性和年龄生长进行了初步研究。中华间吸鳅为杂食性鱼类,其食物主要包括藻类、高等植物碎片、水生昆虫、软体动物。适宜的年龄鉴定材料为鳞片和微耳石,两者年龄鉴定结果的符合率为85%,且以鳞径对生长的退算结果与实测体长相符。体长与体重的回归方程为:W=1.08×10-4L2.5604,微耳石半径与体长、鳞径与体长的回归方程分别为:BL=59.995+130R和BL=36.704+117R。    相似文献

During the first year of life, body calcium content increases faster in relation to body size than any other time during growth. Studies have shown postnatal growth and bone mineralization differences between appropriate for gestational age and small for gestational age infants. The objective of this study was to compare duodenal calcium transport using intestinal ligated loop technique in 21-day-old small for gestational age (birth weight of <1.2 kg) and appropriate for gestational age piglets (birth weight of > or =1.4 kg). Piglets were fed liquid formula between day 5 and 21 of life and monitored daily for weight gain. At day 21 calcium absorption was measured followed by measurement of bone mass using dual energy x-ray absorptiometry. Small for gestational age piglets had greater calcium absorption and growth rate than appropriate for gestational age piglets. Birth weight was negatively related to weight gain and calcium absorption. Weight gain was positively related to calcium absorption. Appropriate for gestational age piglets had significantly higher whole body bone mineral content than small for gestational age piglets even after correction for body size. Whole body bone mineral content was positively correlated with birth weight and negatively correlated with calcium absorption. These observations suggest that small for gestational age piglets are capable of absorbing elevated amounts of calcium in the proximal intestine in support of compensatory growth. However, at 21 days of age small for gestational age piglets are similar in size but have lower bone mass compared to appropriate for gestational age piglets.  相似文献

Allometric relationships between incisor size and body size were determined for 26 species of New World primates. While previous studies have suggested that the incisors of Old World primates, and anthropoids in general, scale isometrically with body size, the data presented here indicate a negative allometric relationship between incisor size and body size among New World species. This negative allometry was exhibited by platyrrhines when either upper or lower incisor row length was regressed against body weight, and when either least-squares or bivariate principal axis equations were used. When upper incisor length was plotted against skull length, negative allometry could be sustained using both statistical techniques only when the full sample of 26 species was plotted. The choice of variables to represent incisor size and body size, and the choice of a statistical technique to effect the allometric equation, had a more pronounced impact on the location of individual species with regard to lines of best fit. Platyrrhines as a group have smaller incisors relative to body size than do catarrhines, regardless of diet. Among New World primates, small incisors represent a plausible primitive condition; species with relatively large incisors manifest a phyletic change associated with a dietary shift to foods that require increased incisal preparation. The opposite trend characterizes Old World primates. In spite of the taxonomic differences in relative incisor size between platyrrhine and catarrhine primates, inferences about diet derived from an allometric equation for all anthropoids should prove reliable as long as the species with unknown diet does not lie at the upper end of the body size range for platyrrhines or catarrhines.  相似文献

Summary Growth ofOphicephalus striatus was studied from zones on the scales as these were found to be suitable for age determination. Lenght estimates obtained from the scale reading were further substantiated by back-calculations. Thevon Bertalanffy equation was employed to find out theoretical values of length in respect of various year classes. The theoretical values agreed with the observed values very closely.Length-weight relationship showed that the weight of fish increases slightly faster than the cube of the length. Thevon Bertalanffy equation gave a good fit to weight-age data.  相似文献

随机选取1120尾3月龄大菱鲆幼鱼,测量其体长、全长、体高、头长、吻尖至鳃裂前缘长、尾柄长、尾柄高、体厚、体重等9个性状,计算各性状间的相关系数,采用通径分析方法计算以表型形态性状为自变量对体重作依变量的通径系数、决定系数及复相关指数, 对各性状的影响大小进行剖分,明确影响大菱鲆三月龄幼鱼体重的主要外部形态性状,为大菱鲆选育提供理论依据和理想的测度指标.结果表明:所测各表型性状与体重之间的相关系数均达到极其显著水平(P<0.01=;全长对体重的直接影响(R=0.702)最大, 对体重的决定程度(R2=51.84%)最高,是影响体重的主要因素;体高、体厚对体重的直接作用 (0.211 ,0.094)相对较小,主要通过体长的间接作用(0.5558,0.4342)影响体重.所选表型性状对体重的回归系数R2=0.911,表明所选性状是影响体重的主要性状.利用逐步回归分析方法建立以体长、体高、体厚为自变量估计体重的多元回归回归方程为:y=-6.216 1.294x1 0.518x2 1.293x3[动物学报 54(3):540-545,2008].  相似文献

Latent systemic anaphylactic sensitisation to cows'' milk was assessed in 61 preterm infants who were randomly assigned to receive either a special formula for preterm infants based on cows'' milk or banked breast milk or one or other of these as a supplement to maternal milk. A single sample of venous blood was taken near to the time of discharge from the neonatal intensive care unit, and the histamine release by blood basophils in response to in vitro challenge with cows'' milk and anti-IgE was measured. Compared with the blood from infants fed on human milk, that from infants fed on preterm formula showed a significant increase in histamine release to challenge with cows'' milk, the response being greater in blood from infants of lower birth weight and gestational age. A smaller but significant increase in blood histamine release with anti-IgE challenge was observed in the group fed on preterm formula. Infants of low birth weight fed on preterm formula based on cows'' milk may develop latent systemic sensitisation more rapidly than infants born at term. The clinical importance of this requires further investigation.  相似文献
