The incidence of Septoria nodorum and Rhynchosporium secalis in N.I.A.B. cultivar trials of wheat and barley respectively showed marked regional and seasonal variation. Peak annual incidence of the two diseases often coincided. Levels of S. nodorum infection in winter wheat generally exceeded those in spring wheat, while levels of R. secalis in winter and spring barley were usually similar. Annual peaks in mean disease levels were associated with above average rainfall and raindays and below average temperatures, especially during the period of epidemic development. Regional variation in disease incidence reflected the association with high rainfall. S. nodorum infection in wheat was more widespread, and incidence of leaf infection was higher, than R. secalis in barley. Annual and regional incidence of S. nodorum and R. secalis in trials was similar to that recorded in the Plant Pathology Laboratory surveys of commercial crops. Disease records from cultivar trials can provide useful additional information on the behaviour of S. nodorum and R. secalis nationally.  相似文献

The plant-pathogenic fungus Mycosphaerella graminicola (asexual stage: Septoria tritici) causes septoria tritici blotch, a disease that greatly reduces the yield and quality of wheat. This disease is economically important in most wheat-growing areas worldwide and threatens global food production. Control of the disease has been hampered by a limited understanding of the genetic and biochemical bases of pathogenicity, including mechanisms of infection and of resistance in the host. Unlike most other plant pathogens, M. graminicola has a long latent period during which it evades host defenses. Although this type of stealth pathogenicity occurs commonly in Mycosphaerella and other Dothideomycetes, the largest class of plant-pathogenic fungi, its genetic basis is not known. To address this problem, the genome of M. graminicola was sequenced completely. The finished genome contains 21 chromosomes, eight of which could be lost with no visible effect on the fungus and thus are dispensable. This eight-chromosome dispensome is dynamic in field and progeny isolates, is different from the core genome in gene and repeat content, and appears to have originated by ancient horizontal transfer from an unknown donor. Synteny plots of the M. graminicola chromosomes versus those of the only other sequenced Dothideomycete, Stagonospora nodorum, revealed conservation of gene content but not order or orientation, suggesting a high rate of intra-chromosomal rearrangement in one or both species. This observed "mesosynteny" is very different from synteny seen between other organisms. A surprising feature of the M. graminicola genome compared to other sequenced plant pathogens was that it contained very few genes for enzymes that break down plant cell walls, which was more similar to endophytes than to pathogens. The stealth pathogenesis of M. graminicola probably involves degradation of proteins rather than carbohydrates to evade host defenses during the biotrophic stage of infection and may have evolved from endophytic ancestors.  相似文献

A PCR system in the fluorescent amplification-based specific hybridization (FLASH) format was developed for the detection and identification of two important wheat pathogenic fungi Septoria tritici (teleomorph of Mycosphaerella graminicola and Stagonospora nodorum (teleomorph of Phaeosphaeria nodorum), which cause spots on leaves and glumes, respectively. The pathogen detection system is based on the amplification of a genome fragment in the internal transcribed spacer 1 (ITS 1) region and a site encoding the 5.8S ribosomal RNA. The forward primers to ITS1 and a universal reverse primer and a Beacon type probe to the 5.8S ribosomal RNA region were chosen to provide the detection of the products in the FLASH format. This system was tested on different isolates of the pathogens, and on infected soil, leaf, and seed samples.  相似文献

The North China Plain (NCP) is the most important agricultural production area in China. Crop production in the NCP is sensitive to changes in both climate and management practices. While previous studies showed a negative impact of climatic change on crop yield since 1980s, the confounding effects of climatic and agronomic factors have not been separately investigated. This paper used 25 years of crop data from three locations (Nanyang, Zhengzhou and Luancheng) across the NCP, together with daily weather data and crop modeling, to analyse the contribution of changes in climatic and agronomic factors to changes in grain yields of wheat and maize. The results showed that the changes in climate were not uniform across the NCP and during different crop growth stages. Warming mainly occurred during the vegetative (preflowering) growth stage of wheat and maize, while there was a cooling trend or no significant change in temperatures during the postflowering stage of wheat (spring) or maize (autumn). If varietal effects were excluded, warming during vegetative stages would lead to a reduction in the length of the growing period for both crops, generally leading to a negative impact on crop production. However, autonomous adoption of new crop varieties in the NCP was able to compensate the negative impact of climatic change. For both wheat and maize, the varietal changes helped stabilize the length of preflowering period against the shortening effect of warming and, together with the slightly reduced temperature in the postflowering period, extend the length of the grain‐filling period. The combined effect led to increased wheat yield at Zhengzhou and Luancheng; increased maize yield at Nanyang and Luancheng; stabilized wheat yield at Nanyang, and a slight reduction in maize yield at Zhengzhou, compared with the yield change caused entirely by climatic change.  相似文献

1. Climate change is already affecting biodiversity, but the number of species for which reliable models relate weather and climate to demographic parameters is low. 2. We modelled the effect of temperature and rainfall on the breeding success and territory occupancy of ring ouzels Turdus torquatus (L.) in northern Britain, using data from a range of study areas, including one where there was a long-term decline in ring ouzel abundance. 3. Timing of breeding was significantly related to meteorological variables affecting birds in the early spring, though there was no evidence that laying dates had advanced. Breeding success was not significantly related to weather variables; instead, over 90% of annual variation in this parameter could be explained by density dependence. 4. Annual change in territory occupancy was linked to rainfall and temperature the preceding summer, after the main breeding season and to rainfall in the wintering grounds 24 months previously, coincident with the period of juniper Juniperus sp. (L.) flowering. High temperature in late summer, intermediate levels of late summer rainfall, and high spring rainfall in Morocco 24 months previously all had negative impacts on territory occupancy the following year. 5. All three weather variables have changed over recent decades, with a significant increase in summer temperature, a significant decrease in summer rainfall, and a nonsignificant decline in Moroccan spring rainfall. A model based on these trends alone predicted an annual decline in occupancy of 3.6% (compared with an observed decline of 1.2%), and suggested that increased summer temperatures may underlie declines in the British ring ouzel population. 6. Changes in summer temperature after the main breeding period could affect the survival rates of adult and/or juvenile birds. An improved understanding of the post-breeding ecology of ring ouzels is required to elucidate the mechanisms and causes of this relationship. Such knowledge might allow management aimed at buffering the impacts of climate change on ring ouzels.  相似文献

In field experiments using healthy trap plants it was found that pycniospores of S. nodorum were dispersed from diseased wheat plants whenever rain fell and occasionally in the absence of rain. Of two spring wheats tested, cv. Kolibri seemed a better ‘source’ plant and cv. Maris Butler a better ‘receptor’ when rainfall was light, but this difference was not apparent when rainfall was heavy. On 44 occasions, plants of Kolibri and M. Butler were also exposed to natural conditions immediately following artificial inoculation with S. nodorum. Infection of plants occurred on 10 occasions and was associated with the following minimum conditions: r.h, at inoculation >63%; and in the following 24 h, minimum temperature <6°C, at least 4 h with r.h. >90% and not more than 4 h with r.h. >60%.  相似文献

A network of 10 Burkard 7-day spore-recording traps was set up in the Walloon region in Belgium to monitor the airborne inoculum of wheat pathogens. Three spore traps were used to analyse the distribution of Mycosphaerella graminicola inoculum at the field scale, at 1 m above ground level. Two traps were set up in a wheat field 100 m apart. The third trap was placed 70 m away in a sugar beet field adjacent to the wheat field. Total DNA from each fragment of spore trap tape corresponding to 1 day sampling was extracted and the quantity of M. graminicola was assessed using real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay. The experiment was conducted from July to October 2009. Positive detections were obtained for between 33 and 36 days, depending on the spore traps. When detected, the daily quantities of cDNA, collected from a volume of 14.4 m3, fluctuated between 4.84E+00 and 6.10E+03. Correlation coefficients higher than 0,82 and no significant differences were observed between the quantities of M. graminicola collected by the three spore traps, indicating that, at 1 m above ground level, the distribution of inoculum can be considered as homogenous at the tested field scale. This study confirms that spore traps coupled with real-time PCR could be used to assess the airborne inoculum of M. graminicola and to understand the development of the disease at this scale.  相似文献

以论证修枝作为复合农林系统优化措施的可行性为目的,对复合农林系统内的杨树进行4种不同强度的修枝处理,分别为P1(修掉树冠高度的1/6)、P2(修掉树冠高度的2/6)、P3 (修掉树冠高度的3/6) 、P4(修掉树冠高度的4/6),以CK(不修枝)为对照,研究了修枝对复合农林系统内冬小麦、夏玉米的净光合速率(Pn)、蒸腾速率(Tr)、气孔导度(Gs)、细胞间隙CO2浓度(Ci)、气孔限制值(Ls)等光合生理特性以及农艺性状、产量构成因素的影响.结果表明:(1)修枝能有效增加作物光合速率、蒸腾速率,同一时刻修枝强度越大光合速率、蒸腾速率越大,下午时这种促进作用小于上午与中午.(2)修枝能显著促进小麦、玉米增高、增粗、增重,且越到后期修枝对作物生长的促进作用越明显.另外,修枝对玉米生长的促进作用大于小麦.(3)修枝能使林下作物大幅增产;修枝后玉米主要通过增加穗数,小麦主要通过增加粒重和穗粒数增产;修枝后玉米增产幅度大于小麦,小麦产量表现优于玉米,小麦比玉米更适合复合农林系统.  相似文献

Photoperiod and environmental temperature are two important factors that may influence the reproductive cycle of various species. The objective of this study was to investigate seasonal influences on serum testosterone concentrations in dogs in a tropical zone, where the variation in day length between winter and summer solstice was approximately 2.5 h. Blood samples were collected every 15 days from seven adult dogs over a 14-month interval and serum testosterone concentrations were determined by radioimmunoassay. The year was divided into four seasons and mean testosterone concentrations for each season were related to the mean environmental temperature and rainfall during that season. Mean testosterone concentrations were 1.81 ng/mL (winter 2002), 1.93 ng/mL (spring 2002), 1.31 ng/mL (summer 2003), 2.02 ng/mL (autumn 2003) and 1.93 ng/mL (winter 2003). The temperature ranged from 10.2 to 32.8 degrees C and the rainfall from 33 to 476 mm. Serum testosterone concentrations were lower in summer 2003 than in both spring 2002 (P = 0.05) and autumn 2003 (P = 0.016). In a tropical zone, a combination of high temperature and substantial rainfall may have reduced serum testosterone concentrations in dogs.  相似文献

The Fertile Crescent represents the center of origin and earliest known place of domestication for many cereal crops. During the transition from wild grasses to domesticated cereals, many host-specialized pathogen species are thought to have emerged. A sister population of the wheat-adapted pathogen Mycosphaerella graminicola was identified on wild grasses collected in northwest Iran. Isolates of this wild grass pathogen from 5 locations in Iran were compared with 123 M. graminicola isolates from the Middle East, Europe, and North America. DNA sequencing revealed a close phylogenetic relationship between the pathogen populations. To reconstruct the evolutionary history of M. graminicola, we sequenced 6 nuclear loci encompassing 464 polymorphic sites. Coalescence analyses indicated a relatively recent origin of M. graminicola, coinciding with the known domestication of wheat in the Fertile Crescent around 8,000-9,000 BC. The sympatric divergence of populations was accompanied by strong genetic differentiation. At the present time, no genetic exchange occurs between pathogen populations on wheat and wild grasses although we found evidence that gene flow may have occurred since genetic differentiation of the populations.  相似文献

The fungus Mycosphaerella graminicola has been a pathogen of wheat since host domestication 10,000-12,000 years ago in the Fertile Crescent. The wheat-infecting lineage emerged from closely related Mycosphaerella pathogens infecting wild grasses. We use a comparative genomics approach to assess how the process of host specialization affected the genome structure of M. graminicola since divergence from the closest known progenitor species named M. graminicola S1. The genome of S1 was obtained by Illumina sequencing resulting in a 35 Mb draft genome sequence of 32X. Assembled contigs were aligned to the previously sequenced M. graminicola genome. The alignment covered >90% of the non-repetitive portion of the M. graminicola genome with an average divergence of 7%. The sequenced M. graminicola strain is known to harbor thirteen essential chromosomes plus eight dispensable chromosomes. We found evidence that structural rearrangements significantly affected the dispensable chromosomes while the essential chromosomes were syntenic. At the nucleotide level, the essential and dispensable chromosomes have evolved differently. The average synonymous substitution rate in dispensable chromosomes is considerably lower than in essential chromosomes, whereas the average non-synonymous substitution rate is three times higher. Differences in molecular evolution can be related to different transmission and recombination patterns, as well as to differences in effective population sizes of essential and dispensable chromosomes. In order to identify genes potentially involved in host specialization or speciation, we calculated ratios of synonymous and non-synonymous substitution rates in the >9,500 aligned protein coding genes. The genes are generally under strong purifying selection. We identified 43 candidate genes showing evidence of positive selection, one encoding a potential pathogen effector protein. We conclude that divergence of these pathogens was accompanied by structural rearrangements in the small dispensable chromosomes, while footprints of positive selection were present in only a small number of protein coding genes.  相似文献

Understanding the effects of weather on insect population dynamics is crucial to simulate and forecast pest outbreaks, which is becoming increasingly important with the effects of climate change. The mirid bug Apolygus lucorum is an important pest on cotton, fruit trees and other crops in China, and primarily lays its eggs on dead parts of tree branches in the fall for subsequent overwintering. As such, the eggs that hatch the following spring are most strongly affected by ambient weather factors, rather than by host plant biology. In this study, we investigated the effects of three major weather factors: temperature, relative humidity and rainfall, on the hatching rate of A. lucorum eggs overwintering on dead branches of Chinese date tree (Ziziphus jujuba). Under laboratory conditions, rainfall (simulated via soaking) was necessary for the hatching of overwintering A. lucorum eggs. In the absence of rainfall (unsoaked branches), very few nymphs successfully emerged under any of the tested combinations of temperature and relative humidity. In contrast, following simulated rainfall, the hatching rate of the overwintering eggs increased dramatically. Hatching rate and developmental rate were positively correlated with relative humidity and temperature, respectively. Under field conditions, the abundance of nymphs derived from overwintering eggs was positively correlated with rainfall amount during the spring seasons of 2009–2013, while the same was not true for temperature and relative humidity. Overall, our findings indicate that rainfall is the most important factor affecting the hatching rate of overwintering A. lucorum eggs on dead plant parts and nymph population levels during the spring season. It provides the basic information for precisely forecasting the emergence of A. lucorum and subsequently timely managing its population in spring, which will make it possible to regional control of this insect pest widely occurring in multiple crops in summer.  相似文献

Presymptomatic and accurate diagnosis of Mycosphaerella graminicola leaf blotch is desirable for the disease prediction and the timely application of fungicides. To develop a sensitive PCR assay, four specific primer pairs were designed. They were more specific than three known specific primer pairs. Three of them could detect as little as 0.5 pg M. graminicola DNA in a conventional PCR. A real-time PCR assay was applied for monitoring the disease progression in both inoculated and naturally infected wheat plants using the primer pair ST-rRNA F/R. In inoculated plants, M. graminicola DNA could be detected immediately after inoculation and a steady increase was detected before visible symptoms appeared at 8 days. The rapid growth period took place between 6 and 16 days postinoculation. In the field, the disease progression in the top three leaf layers was followed during the epidemic period. The results were significantly correlated to the disease indices (R=0.8986) and also to the number of pycnidia per leaf (R=0.9227). These suggest that the real-time PCR assay is a reliable approach for the presymptomatic and accurate detection of M. graminicola development in the field.  相似文献

Surveys were conducted in the summer andwinter rainfall wheat producing regions of SouthAfrica in a first attempt to investigate theidentity and impact of entomopathogenic fungi withinthe cereal aphid complex. Wheat produced underdryland and irrigated conditions was surveyed duringthe 1996 and 1997 seasons. Six cereal aphid specieswere recorded of which the Russian wheat aphid, Diuraphis noxia, was the most abundantunder dryland conditions in the summer rainfallregion as opposed to the oat aphid, Rhopalosiphum padi, in the winter rainfallregion. Rose grain aphid, Metopolophiumdirhodum, was most prevalent underirrigated conditions in the summer rainfall region.Five species of entomopathogenic fungi were recordedincluding four entomophthorales and the hyphomycete,Beauveria bassiana. TheEntomophthorales included Pandora neoaphidis, Conidiobolus obscurus, C.thromboides, and Entomophthoraplanchoniana. Pandora neoaphidis wasthe most important etiological agent recorded fromD. noxia, with up to 50% mycosis recordedunder dryland conditions in the Bethlehem summerrainfall region. Similarly, P. neoaphidis wasthe most prevalent species within populations ofM. dirhodum. under irrigated conditions in theBergville/Winterton summer rainfall region (up to77% mycosis). However, mycoses of R. padi didnot exceed 1.7% in samples from these areas,suggesting that R. padi may be lesssusceptible to P. neoaphidis than M.dirhodum. Epizootics in populations of D.noxia under dryland conditions in both the winterand summer rainfall regions indicated a high levelof susceptibility to P. neoaphidis.Occurrences of hymenopterous parasitoids andpredators in populations of D. noxia were low,although a parasitism level of 25% was recorded inone small sample of R. padi collected from anirrigated field in the summer rainfall region.  相似文献

The results of annual censuses of a Golden Plover population in the Peak District, covering 24 years, are analysed. A strong density-dependent effect of the population in the previous year explained 26.7% of the variation in population growth. An additional 15.3% of the variation was accounted for by the severity of winter weather, as measured by mean monthly air temperature for November to February. There was no significant effect of weather during the breeding season upon Golden Plover population size, implying that any effects which spring and summer temperature or rainfall may have upon fledging success are masked by other factors. The importance of these results is discussed in the light of work on other wader species, and possible declines in Golden Plover numbers.  相似文献

Water-use efficiency (WUE [g grain yield m–2 mm–1 ET]) and nitrogen-use efficiency (NUE [ g grain yield g–1 Napplied]) are important measures that can affect the productivity of crops in different environmental systems. However, measurement and interpretation of WUE and NUE in the field are often hampered by the high degree of complexity of these systems due to season-to-season variability in rainfall, the variation in crop responses to soil types and to agronomic management. To be able to guide agronomic practice, experimentally-derived measurements of WUE and NUE need to be extrapolated across time and space through appropriate modelling. To illustrate this approach, the Agricultural Production Systems Simulator (APSIM), which has been rigorously tested for wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) in a Mediterranean environment, was used to estimate and analyse the WUE and NUE of wheat crops in the Mediterranean-climatic region of the central Western Australian agricultural zone. The APSIM model was run for three locations (average annual rainfall of 461 mm [high rainfall zone], 386 mm [medium] and 310 mm [low]) and two soil types that had contrasting plant-available water-holding capacities in the rooting zone (sand: 55 mm, clay soil: 109 mm). Simulations were carried out with historical weather records (82–87 years) assuming current crop management and cultivars. The modelling analyses highlighted the inherently high degree of seasonal variability in yield, WUE and NUE of wheat, depending on soil type, N fertiliser input, rainfall amount and, in particular, rainfall distribution. The clay soil tended to be more productive in terms of grain yield, WUE and NUE in the high and medium rainfall zones, but less productive in most years in the low rainfall zone. The sandy soil was less productive in the high rainfall zone due to the high nitrate leaching potential of this soil type, but more productive than the clay in the low rainfall zone due to poorer pre-anthesis growth and less water use, less water loss by soil evaporation and relatively more water use in the post-anthesis phase. When a wheat crop was sown early on clay soil in the low rainfall zone, it yielded as high as in the other rainfall zones in seasons when rainfall was above average or there was a good store of water in the soil prior to sowing. The simulations confirmed findings from a limited number of field experiments and extended these findings both qualitatively and quantitatively across soil types, rainfall regions and crop management options. Furthermore, by using long-term historical weather records, the simulations extended the findings across the wide range of climatic scenarios experienced in mediterranean-climatic regions.  相似文献

根据调查资料和田间试验结果,系统地分析了旱地不同作物生长发育与降水分布的时序关系、旱地作物水分潜在利用率和旱地主要作物水分供需平衡与错位特征,并利用水分生态适应性数学模型,对宁南黄土丘陵区主要作物的水分生态适应性进行了定量评价.结果表明,秋熟作物生长发育与降水分布耦合性较好,夏熟作物生长发育与降水分布耦合性较差.不同作物的降水潜在利用率存在差异,其基本规律是:多年生牧草>薯类作物>谷类作物;秋熟作物>夏熟作物.作物的水分满足率和生态适应性,秋熟作物优于夏熟作物,丰水年份优于干旱年份.旱地6种主要作物的水分生态适应性指数排序依次为:谷子>马铃薯>糜子>胡麻>豌豆>春小麦.  相似文献

Mating type idiomorphs (MAT1-1 and MAT1-2) were identified from the heterothallic loculoascomycete Phaeosphaeria nodorum (wheat biotype) using DNA from a pair of isolates from Poland and Georgia, USA that are known to mate. MAT predicted proteins of P. nodorum are similar in sequence and in phylogenetic relationship to those described for other loculoascomycetes such as Cochliobolus spp., Alternaria alternata, and Didymella zeae-maydis. The organization of the MAT locus of the P. nodorum differs from these species in that its idiomorph begins within an adjacent upstream conserved ORF of unknown function. MAT-specific primers were used to identify isolates of both mating types in field populations, demonstrating that an absence of either mating type is not the reason that the teleomorph has not been found in New York. Portions of MAT1-1 and MAT1-2 were sequenced from geographically diverse isolates, including those from regions where the teleomorph has been reported. MAT was highly conserved and no significant differences in sequence were found.  相似文献

通过3个品质类型春小麦品种施肥和播期大田试验,建立了灌浆期籽粒沉淀值动态变化的曲线拟合方程,定量揭示籽粒沉淀值动态变化规律及氮磷肥与播期的影响效应.结果表明,自开花15 d始至成熟,籽粒沉淀值随时间变化呈先升高后降低的单峰曲线变化.在灌浆期籽粒沉淀值的动态变化过程中,不同基因型特点不同,且基因型间的关系也随之发生变化.各品种沉淀值积累速度的变化决定了成熟时高蛋白强筋品种沉淀值最高、高蛋白中筋品种次之、低蛋白弱筋品种最低.氮水平增加,高蛋白强筋和低蛋白弱筋品种沉淀值和曲线最高值降低,高蛋白中筋品种则明显升高;高蛋白强筋品种曲线最高值出现时间提前,而高蛋白中筋和低蛋白弱筋品种则推后.磷水平增加,高蛋白品种沉淀值和曲线最高值普遍提高,而低蛋白品种则降低;各基因型曲线最高值出现时间均推迟.氮磷(钾)素平衡配施是形成较高沉淀值的关键.在没有水分胁迫情况下,光温互作是影响籽粒沉淀值动态形成的首要条件,其次为降水;而≥10 ℃积温则为最敏感因子,即在较高光温条件互作前提下,增加灌浆期≥10 ℃积温则提高各基因型品种沉淀值.高蛋白比低蛋白品种更易受氮磷水平和气象条件影响.  相似文献

In many ungulates, female fecundity is influenced by weather, population density and body condition. Based on a six-year survey of the reproductive tracts of adult female roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) harvested in the province of Pisa (Tuscany, central Italy), we evaluated the influence of weather, population density and individual characteristics on pregnancy rates. Eighty-five percent of females were pregnant, with a median litter size of two (range one—three). We found that pregnancy rate was positively correlated with summer rainfall and body mass of females, whereas early-winter conditions, spring rainfall, the age of females and density-dependent factors did not appear to influence pregnancy rate. These results reflect the particular seasonal variation in the abundance and quality of resources in Mediterranean habitats and show that heavier females (high-quality mothers) are more productive than lighter females.  相似文献
