The number of flying insects in the sheltered zone to leeward of artificial windbreaks of 0, 25, 45 and 70% permeability was greater than in unsheltered areas. Insects accumulated in the air nearer to dense windbreaks than to more permeable ones, and the position of maximum aerial density of insects coincided with that of maximum shelter. The more dense the windbreak the greater the numbers in the air to leeward. Absolute wind speed slightly affected the position of maximum aerial density behind a 45% permeable fence.  相似文献

A thermostatic, taxidermic model sheep was used to assess the effects of thermoregulatory behaviour of shorn sheep at night in a winter environment with mean air temperatures slightly above freezing, variable wind speeds, rain and cloud cover.Testing in a wind tunnel showed that angle of incidence to the wind had no effect on heat loss at wind speeds < 2 m s−1 (7 km h−1), but at wind speeds of 7 m s−1 (25 km h−1), heat loss was 14% greater when the model was side-on rather than tail- or head-on to the wind.In tests on pasture, standing side-on to the early morning sun reduced heat loss from the model by 33%. Three hours “lying” on the lee side of a 1-m high synthetic Sarlon windbreak on a frosty night resulted in a reduction in heat loss of 6% below that when standing or 11% below that in a standing position in the open. When the model was placed in the centre of a tight group of 16 shorn sheep, its heat loss was reduced by an average of 14%.Heat loss was also reduced if the model was moved from the open, to regions of lower wind speed adjacent to windbreaks; the effect was greater on the leeward than the windward side.The reduction one metre leeward of a grass hedge (hybrid Phalaris) was 15% compared with 12% one metre leeward of a synthetic (Sarlon) windbreak, which is consistent with the preference of shorn sheep to shelter by Phalaris rather than Sarlon windbreaks.The microclimates where heat loss from the model were lowest correspond to those sought by shorn sheep in cold weather, and the results indicate that shorn sheep have very sensitive thermosensing mechanisms and efficient thermoregulatory behaviour.  相似文献

The distribution of shelter to leeward of a windbreak of tall trees was compared with the pattern of distribution of insects above and within a wheat crop. The pattern for flying insects blown from elsewhere resembled the shelter profile, in contrast to insects originating in the windbreak, which accumulated immediately behind the trees, and those originating a few metres to windward, which accumulated in a zone between 1/2 and 1 H (10–20 m) to leeward. These patterns were more distinct in direct than in oblique incident winds. The pattern of infestation of a breeding population of cereal thrips in the wheat resembled the distribution of airborne primary migrants 1–2 months earlier; the pattern of scatophagid flies on the crop also resembled that of airborne populations of other dung feeders originating slightly to windward of the trees.  相似文献

Wind speed is one of the most important factors for seed wind dispersal. A wind speed reduction region, which could be influenced by vegetation arrangement, will form in the lee of vegetation and therefore affects the seed dispersal. Here, by taking shrub as an example, quantitative differences in seed dispersals of low vegetation between single element and windbreak‐like clumps are numerically investigated. The local variation of stream‐wise wind speed is focused. Empirically parameterized functions of leeward wind distributions are employed. It reveals that the accumulative probability of dispersed seeds from a point source with considering leeward wind reduction could be well fitted by a logistic function. For a fixed release height or vegetation porosity, accumulative probabilities for single element and those for windbreak‐like clumps would intersect at a leeward location. This intersection location decreases linearly with release height but exponentially with porosity. The fitting parameter r0 (the center of logistic function) for single element increases as the same manner for windbreak‐like clumps, with regard to the increase of release height, porosity, and height. But, the increasing rates for single element are higher than those for windbreak‐like clumps. The fitting parameter p (the power index of logistic function) for single element is generally larger than that for windbreak‐like clumps. With the increase of release height, p decreases at first but increases then for single element, while it shows opposite trend for windbreak‐like clumps. p decreases with porosity for both single element and windbreak‐like clumps. But, the decreasing rate for single element is lower than that for windbreak‐like clumps. p increases exponentially with height for windbreak‐like clumps, while it almost keeps constant for single element. These results suggest the potential importance of vegetation arrangement on seed dispersal and therefore possibly provide additional reason for the disagreement among observed dispersal kernels.  相似文献

Pheromone-baited traps are often used in ecological studies of the European corn borer, Ostrinia nubilalis (Hübner) (Lepidoptera: Crambidae). However, differences in trap captures may be confounded by trap design, trap location relative to a windbreak, and changes in local weather. The objectives of this experiment were, first, to examine differences in 0. nubilalis adult (moth) captures among the Intercept wing trap, the Intercept bucket/funnel UNI trap, and the Hartstack wire-mesh, 75-cm-diameter cone trap (large metal cone trap) as well as among three cone trap designs. Second, we examined the influence of the location of the large metal cone trap relative to a windbreak on the number of moths captured. Third, we examined the relationship between nightly mean air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, precipitation, and the number of moths captured in large metal cone traps. The number of moths captured was significantly influenced by trap design, with large metal cone traps capturing the most moths. Wing and bucket traps were ineffective. Differences among trap captures were significant among trap locations relative to a windbreak. Under strong (>14 kph) or moderate (7 <14 kph) wind speeds, traps located leeward of the windbreak captured the most moths, but when wind speeds were light (<7 kph), traps not associated with windbreaks captured the most moths. The multiple regression model fitted to the relationship between number of moths captured per Julian date and nightly weather patterns was significant. Nightly mean air temperature was the most influential parameter in the model, and its relationship with moth capture was positive.  相似文献

近地表地形的风场受坡度坡向、地表形态和空间格局等地形要素的控制,从而影响人的"风感"体验,是人居环境的选址与布局需要考虑的重要因素。通过建立地形3D模型、划分网格、设定模拟工况,运用Fluent 14.0软件对不同山体地形坡度、形态和格局的风场进行CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics)模拟。结果发现:(1)坡度在0.3以下对地形风场影响较小;当坡度大于0.5时,随坡度增大背风坡风影区逐渐增大,挡风效果更加明显;坡度大于0.7以后,随着风影区加大,回流涡旋更加明显。(2)风场受到周边地形形体的影响,尤其是迎风面和背风面截面变化率。迎风面截面变化率越大,风速变化越快;背风面截面变化越大,背风面的出现风影区和回流涡旋的几率越大。迎风面出现凹形迎风口会形成气体滞留区,而背风面凹形口后部会增加风影区和回流涡旋出现的几率。(3)不同地形格局对单个地形的风场具有强化和减弱效果。"三面环山"的相对封闭的地形格局有利于形成稳定的风场,并提高风感舒适度。在人居环境的风感营造和优化中,需要避开风感敏感区域,即风速激增区、回流涡旋区、无固定风向的强烈湍流区、气流不流通的静风区和气流死循环涡旋区等风感敏感区,并利用植被或者人工构筑物来消除敏感区或削弱这一影响。并根据不同的气候类型和城市特点进行选址、地形改造或者进行内部地形格局调整和优化,以提高风感舒适度。选择开放型地形格局和低坡度、平行风向的流线型地形能够加强通风,而塑造封闭性地形格局和垂直风向的陡坡地形能够减小风速。  相似文献

绿洲边缘积沙带的形成因素及其生态效应是一个新的科学问题。为了研究河西绿洲边缘积沙带的形成原因,运用方差分析、相关分析以及典型相关分析等方法,对河西绿洲边缘积沙带的21个样点的观测资料进行了分析。结果表明:河西绿洲边缘积沙带的分布趋势大致为东高西低、东宽西窄,大部分地段目前处于稳定阶段;积沙带上的优势种植物以天然柽柳最多,不同优势种植物的积沙带的迎风坡植被盖度及植被纯盖度差异较显著。典型相关分析结果表明:积沙带的高度和宽度是降水量、到沙源的距离、背风坡植被盖度和年平均风速等气候环境因子共同作用的结果。积沙带的生态效应:一是自身作为一种障碍物的防护作用,二是阻截、减少流沙流沙进入农田的作用。  相似文献

采用定位观测法,系统评价了杨树(Populus simonii)林的防风、抗蚀和滞尘等生态服务效能及其间接价值,同时定量探讨了风速减弱系数与实测林地叶面积指数的关系。结果表明,在研究区主害风(西北风)天气下,林地迎风区6H(H为平均树高)、3H、林地中央、林地背风区林缘、6和8H处2m高度的日平均风速与对照点(流动沙丘)相比均有不同程度减弱,风速减弱系数在18.3%~66.2%之间。林地背风区6H处0.25、0.5、1和2 m 4个高度的月平均风速减弱系数与林地叶面积指数呈显著非线性相关,其间存在良好的三次曲线关系(P<0.0001,R2=0.43~0.94,n=80)。在主害风天气下,林地各观测点的地表日风蚀量与对照点相比大幅度降低,平均降幅85.2%~99.9%。在观测期内,林地中央的日平均降尘量为13.2 kg·hm-2,而林地迎风区6H处的日平均降尘量为9.9 kg·hm-2,林地的日滞尘能力约为3.3kg·hm-2。    相似文献

荒漠化是内蒙古荒漠草原面临的最严重的生态环境问题之一,而风蚀则是造成土地退化的主要因素。采用修正风蚀方程(Revised wind erosion equation,RWEQ)定量评估了内蒙古荒漠草原2000和2017年的固沙量,并结合土地利用、降水、风速、植被覆盖度数据分析了该区域防风固沙服务的影响因素。结果表明:内蒙古荒漠草原的防风固沙服务表现出明显的空间异质性,不同土地利用类型提供的防风固沙服务有所差异,其中高覆盖度草地的固沙量相对较高。总体来说,2000年固沙量与降水、风速、植被覆盖度均为正相关,2017年固沙量与降水为负相关,与风速和植被覆盖度为正相关。2000-2017年内蒙古荒漠草原固沙物质总量增幅为53.95%,其中9.65%来源于土地利用变化区域,土地利用方式发生变化的面积占研究区总面积的5.6%。2000-2017年土地利用变化以林地的恢复、建设用地的扩张以及不同覆盖度间草地的转换为主。2000-2017年,风力因子的分布模式对防风固沙服务的空间分布变化的影响较大。总的来说,土地利用变化对内蒙古荒漠草原的防风固沙服务有一定的增强作用,防风固沙服务的空间分布在时间上的变化主要受气候因子的影响。  相似文献

Abstract. Key characteristics of airflow were measured in the African bush in a study of host odour plume structure. Wind speed, speed variance, direction, and directional variance were measured by conventional cup anemometers plus wind-vanes and by a solid state ultrasonic anemometer, on time scales from seconds to minutes. The two technologies gave opposite relationships between wind speed and turbulence measured as rate of angular direction change in the wind (° s-1). A positive correlation between turbulence and wind speed was observed with mechanical anemometers and wind-vanes, evidently caused by their inherent hysteresis (stalling in weak wind, overswinging after gusts). The same correlation was negative with the solid-state anemometer which, being hysteresis free, should have measured the true directional turbulence more accurately. Such fine-scale turbulence at a fixed point in space (on a scale of about ∼15 cm diam.) decreased with wind speed up to ∼1.5 m s-1, as does large-scale (∼1m diam.) turbulence of air moving through space (Brady et al. , 1989). This decrease occurred both within vegetation and out in the open, but the slope and intercepts of the relationship depended on vegetation and topography. Variables for describing wind speed and turbulence are considered in the context of odour plume structure.  相似文献

In a turnip crop natural infection with turnip mild yellows virus was greatest in two narrow zones, one to leeward of an artificial windbreak, the other in a long shallow depression in the earth. Both zones were approximately across wind when Myzus persicae flew in early summer. Later in the summer, similar windbreaks facing different prevailing winds increased the number of larvae of Scaptomyza apicalis on the plants immediately to leeward and windward of the windbreaks, probably because shelter affected adults that were flying and laying eggs in the crop.  相似文献

To assess the pedoecological effects of a 23-year old poplar ( Populus simonii Carr.) forest on soil amelioration and vegetation restoration via soil erosion reduction and atmospheric dust retention in a desertified sandy land ecosystem, daily dynamics of wind speed, sand transport and dust deposition rates were monitored over an erosive period from April through June in 2001, using fixed observation sites located at different positions within and around the forest. Soil and vegetation characteristics at these sites were also measured. The observation sites were placed at distances of 15H (as control), 6H and 3H (H is mean tree height) from the forest edge of the windward side (abbreviated CK, 6H-W and 3H-W respectively), forest center (FC), and at distances of 0H, 6H and 8H from the forest edge of the leeward side (FE-L, 6H-L and 8H-L respectively). Daily mean wind speed was significantly lower in different observation sites than CK, with FC having the greatest reduction of wind speed and 6H-W the least reduction. Daily transport rate of sand by wind was also significantly lower in different observation sites than CK, with FE-L having the greatest reduction of wind erosion and 6H-W the least reduction. The fact that the poplar forest will lose its functions against wind at a distance of about 12-fold tree height from the forest edge of the leeward side suggests that the effective wind-preventing range of the poplar forest is about 150 m. There was marked spatial and seasonal distribution of dust-fall rate. Over space, the rate of dust-fall was much greater within the forest than outside the forest. Over time, the daily dust deposition rate was greatest in April, followed in decreasing order by May, June, July, September and August, closely linked to the seasonal distribution pattern of dust storm. Significant positive changes in soil and vegetation parameters of the different observation sites during the 23 years that the poplar forest was established suggest the perceptible pedoecological effects of the poplar forest on soil development and restorative succession of plant community within its immediate vicinity through windbreak, soil erosion reduction and atmospheric dust retention. Understanding these pedoecological effects may aid in the design of protective forest systems in arid and semi-arid areas.  相似文献

传统观点研究认为:植被覆盖度低于40%,沙地处于半固定半流动状态.但在实践观察中发现:在低密度(或覆盖度)时,灌丛的水平分布格局对固定流沙和阻止风沙流的作用差异显著。以低覆盖度(20%-25%)的柠条固沙林为研究对象,采用多点式自记风速仪(GB-228),在2。4月份的盛风季节,测定了行带式配置和随机分布的柠条固沙林以及完整的行带式配置和其中一带出现缺口的行带式固沙林内不同部位、不同高度的风速.统计分析风速测定结果发现:(1)当覆盖度在20%-25%时,行带式配置的柠条固沙林内的防风效果比同覆盖度随机分布的在20cm高处高48.4%;50era高处高30.7%;200cm高处高27.4%,且风速越大,行带式配置降低风速的效果越显著,当200cm高风速达到6—7m/s时,行带式的平均防风效果比同覆盖度随机分布的高48.2%;反映出在低覆盖度时,灌丛的水平分布格局成为制约固沙林沙防风效果的重要因素,行带式配置具有显著的防风效果;(2)在灌丛与灌丛之间形成的类似“狭管”流场的局部,有提升风速的作用,导致其林内观测的风速有约41.3%的观测结果超过旷野对照风速,行带式配置的柠条固沙林内没有一个观测结果超过对照风速;这个结果反映出随机分布的柠条固沙林内流场结构复杂、变化多样,也成为低覆盖度时,沙地处于半固定、半流动状态,疏林内同时存在风蚀和积沙和缺口处风速升高的重要因素;(3)行带式配置林内地表粗糙度比随机配置的高5.4-114.4倍,说明行带式配置具有显著的防止风蚀、固定流沙的作用;(4)行带式林内出现断带缺口处,其缺口处的风速降低有明显的累加现象;风速抬升现象在一定程度受到制约。这些结果为发展低覆盖度行带式配置的固沙林提供重要的科学依据。  相似文献

ABSTRACT. The calling posture of Spilosoma congrua Walker (Lepidoptera: Arctiidae) affects local airflow in ways that may impact on the release of chemical signals. Dried specimens of S. congrua imitating resting moths, calling moths, and moths with intermediate postures were placed in a wind tunnel. The wind speed was measured near the abdomenal tip where sex pheromone emission occurs. The calling posture, wings-up, gave significantly greater mean wind speeds near the surface of the sex pheromone gland, effectively eliminating the dead air space that surrounds a non-calling moth. The calling posture also decreased the relative intensity of turbulence near the pheromone gland surface.  相似文献

通过野外观测,研究了毛乌素沙地南缘平沙地人工栽种单行沙柳灌丛的植株形态与气流结构.结果表明,沙柳灌能降低迎风侧和背风侧的近地面风速,使沙粒在植株下部沉积.积沙体积(V2)与植株体积(V1)相关性较高(R=0.696).单行沙柳灌丛在4 m高处风速为6 m·s-1时的气流结构特征为:迎风侧3H处风速已降低,2 H处风速又得到加强,之后在背风侧迅速降低,1 H处达到最低值,然后逐渐恢复到旷野风速.防护距离约为17H',有效防护距离约为13 H'.沙柳灌丛对植株高度以上高度处风速影响较小.  相似文献

黄河流域是我国重要的生态屏障和经济区,防风固沙服务及其驱动机制的研究对于筑牢黄河流域生态安全屏障具有重要意义。基于修正土壤风蚀模型(RWEQ)定量评估黄河流域2000—2018年防风固沙服务时空变化,采用相关分析和地理加权回归模型(GWR)从社会、气候、土壤、植被、地形等角度探究各驱动因素对黄河流域防风固沙服务影响的空间异质性。结果表明:(1)2000—2018年黄河流域土壤风蚀模数与单位面积防风固沙量分别以0.04 t hm-2 a-1和0.14 t hm-2 a-1的速率下降,而防风固沙保有率和植被覆盖度则分别以0.05%·a-1和0.26%·a-1的速率上升。(2)黄河流域土壤风蚀以微度(<2 t hm-2 a-1)和轻度(2—25 t hm-2 a-1)为主,共占研究区面积的96.28%。土壤风蚀在空间分布呈现西北高东南低的特点,而防风固沙服务高值则主要分...  相似文献

The lack of instrumental wind speed data beyond the industrial era limits our ability to evaluate the contributions of natural versus anthropogenic processes on long-term changes in wind speed. It is thus desirable to find proxies for historical changes in wind speed. Persistent and strong winds can cause compression wood composed of wider and denser rings in conifer trees at leeward sides. This work hypothesizes that the asymmetric wind impact on tree radial growth provides information about wind speed changes. To test the hypothesis, we developed a Tree-Ring Difference Index (TRDI) representing the differences between tree ring widths at the windward and leeward sides. Thirty-four trees subjected to strong and persistent winds in a Picea mongolica forest in northeastern Inner Mongolia were analyzed. The TRDI based on 124 cores correlates significantly with the maximum wind speeds recorded from May to August, indicating that this proxy can be used for wind speed reconstruction. Our reconstruction reveals long-term changes in wind speed including an upward trend from 1940 to 1954, followed by continually decreasing wind speeds from 1955 to 1990 and increasing values from 1991 to 2010. The reconstructed wind speeds include strong multi-decadal variability and significant correlations with the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO).  相似文献

The effect of wind loading on seedlings of English oak (Quercus robur L.) was investigated. Instead of using a traditional wind tunnel, an innovative ventilation system was designed. This device was set up in the field and composed of a rotating arm supporting an electrical fan, which emitted an air current similar to that of wind loading. Oaks were sown from seed in a circle around the device. A block of control plants was situated nearby, and was not subjected to artificial wind loading. After 7 months, 16 plants from each treatment were excavated, and root architecture and morphological characteristics measured using a 3D digitiser. The resulting geometrical and topological data were then analysed using AMAPmod software. Results showed that total lateral root number and length in wind stressed plants were over two times greater than that in control trees. However, total lateral root volume did not differ significantly between treatments. In comparing lateral root characters between the two populations, it was found that mean root length, diameter and volume were similar between the two treatments. In trees subjected to wind loading, an accentuated asymmetry of root distribution and mean root length was found between the windward and leeward sides of the root system, with windward roots being significantly more numerous and longer than leeward roots. However, no differences were found when the two sectors perpendicular to the wind direction were compared. Mean tap root length was significantly higher in control samples compared to wind stressed plants, whilst mean diameter was greater in the latter. Wind loading appears to result in increased growth of lateral roots at the expense of the tap root. Development of the lateral root system may therefore ensure better anchorage of young trees subjected to wind loading under certain conditions.  相似文献
