Rechargeable lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs) offer the advantages of having great electrical energy storage and increased continuous and pulsed power output capabilities, which enable their applications in grid energy storage and electric vehicles (EVs). For safety, high power and durability considerations, spinel Li4Ti5O12 is one of the most appealing potential candidate as an anode material for power LIBs due to its excellent cycling stability and thermal stability. However, there are still a number of challenges remaining for Li4Ti5O12 battery applications. Herein, an updated overview of the latest advances in Li4Ti5O12 research is provided and key challenges for its future development (i.e., fast‐charging, specific capacity, swelling, interface chemistry, matching cathode and electrolyte as well as batteries design and manufacturing) are highlighted.  相似文献

Ultrathin Li4Ti5O12 nanosheet based hierarchical microspheres are synthesized through a three‐step hydrothermal procedure. The average thickness of the Li4Ti5O12 sheets is only ≈(6.6 ± 0.25) nm and the specific surface area of the sample is 178 m2 g?1. When applied into lithium ion batteries as anode materials, the hierarchical Li4Ti5O12 microspheres exhibit high specific capacities at high rates (156 mA h g?1 at 20 C, 150 mA h g?1 at 50 C) and maintain a capacity of 126 mA h g?1 after 3000 cycles at 20 C. The results clearly suggest that the utility of hierarchical structures based on ultrathin nanosheets can promote the lithium insertion/extraction reactions in Li4Ti5O12. The obtained hierarchical Li4Ti5O12 with ultrathin nanosheets and large specific surface area can be perfect anode materials for the lithium ion batteries applied in high power facilities, such as electric vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles.  相似文献

This work introduces an effective, inexpensive, and large‐scale production approach to the synthesis of a carbon coated, high grain boundary density, dual phase Li4Ti5O12‐TiO2 nanocomposite anode material for use in rechargeable lithium‐ion batteries. The microstructure and morphology of the Li4Ti5O12‐TiO2‐C product were characterized systematically. The Li4Ti5O12‐TiO2‐C nanocomposite electrode yielded good electrochemical performance in terms of high capacity (166 mAh g?1 at a current density of 0.5 C), good cycling stability, and excellent rate capability (110 mAh g?1 at a current density of 10 C up to 100 cycles). The likely contributing factors to the excellent electrochemical performance of the Li4Ti5O12‐TiO2‐C nanocomposite could be related to the improved morphology, including the presence of high grain boundary density among the nanoparticles, carbon layering on each nanocrystal, and grain boundary interface areas embedded in a carbon matrix, where electronic transport properties were tuned by interfacial design and by varying the spacing of interfaces down to the nanoscale regime, in which the grain boundary interface embedded carbon matrix can store electrolyte and allows more channels for the Li+ ion insertion/extraction reaction. This research suggests that carbon‐coated dual phase Li4Ti5O12‐TiO2 nanocomposites could be suitable for use as a high rate performance anode material for lithium‐ion batteries.  相似文献

A mesoporous Li4Ti5O12/C nanocomposite is synthesized by a nanocasting technique using the porous carbon material CMK‐3 as a hard template. Modified CMK‐3 template is impregnated with Li4Ti5O12 precursor, followed by heat treatment at 750 °C for 6 h under N2. Li4Ti5O12 nanocrystals of up to several tens of nanometers are successfully synthesized in micrometer‐sized porous carbon foam to form a highly conductive network, as confirmed by field emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X‐ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, and nitrogen sorption isotherms. The composite is then evaluated as an anode material for lithium ion batteries. It exhibits greatly improved electrochemical performance compared with bulk Li4Ti5O12, and shows an excellent rate capability (73.4 mA h g?1 at 80 C) with significantly enhanced cycling performance (only 5.6% capacity loss after 1000 cycles at a high rate of 20 C). The greatly enhanced lithium storage properties of the mesoporous Li4Ti5O12/C nanocomposite may be attributed to the interpenetrating conductive carbon network, ordered mesoporous structure, and the small Li4Ti5O12 nanocrystallites that increase the ionic and electronic conduction throughout the electrode.  相似文献

Phase transitions play a crucial role in Li‐ion battery electrodes being decisive for both the power density and cycle life. The kinetic properties of phase transitions are relatively unexplored and the nature of the phase transition in defective spinel Li4+xTi5O12 introduces a controversy as the very constant (dis)charge potential, associated with a first‐order phase transition, appears to contradict the exceptionally high rate performance associated with a solid–solution reaction. With the present density functional theory study, a microscopic mechanism is put forward that provides deeper insight in this intriguing and technologically relevant material. The local substitution of Ti with Li in the spinel Li4+xTi5O12 lattice stabilizes the phase boundaries that are introduced upon Li‐ion insertion. This facilitates a subnanometer phase coexistence in equilibrium, which although very similar to a solid solution should be considered a true first‐order phase transition. The resulting interfaces are predicted to be very mobile due to the high mobility of the Li ions located at the interfaces. This highly mobile, almost liquid‐like, subnanometer phase morphology is able to respond very fast to nonequilibrium conditions during battery operation, explaining the excellent rate performance in combination with a first‐order phase transition.  相似文献

Layered sodium titanium oxide, Na2Ti3O7, is synthesized by a solid‐state reaction method as a potential anode for sodium‐ion batteries. Through optimization of the electrolyte and binder, the microsized Na2Ti3O7 electrode delivers a reversible capacity of 188 mA h g?1 in 1 M NaFSI/PC electrolyte at a current rate of 0.1C in a voltage range of 0.0–3.0 V, with sodium alginate as binder. The average Na storage voltage plateau is found at ca. 0.3 V vs. Na+/Na, in good agreement with a first‐principles prediction of 0.35 V. The Na storage properties in Na2Ti3O7 are investigated from thermodynamic and kinetic aspects. By reducing particle size, the nanosized Na2Ti3O7 exhibits much higher capacity, but still with unsatisfied cyclic properties. The solid‐state interphase layer on Na2Ti3O7 electrode is analyzed. A zero‐current overpotential related to thermodynamic factors is observed for both nano‐ and microsized Na2Ti3O7. The electronic structure, Na+ ion transport and conductivity are investigated by the combination of first‐principles calculation and electrochemical characterizations. On the basis of the vacancy‐hopping mechanism, a quasi‐3D energy favorable trajectory is proposed for Na2Ti3O7. The Na+ ions diffuse between the TiO6 octahedron layers with pretty low activation energy of 0.186 eV.  相似文献

Scrupulous design and smart hybridization of bespoke electrode materials are of great importance for the advancement of sodium ion batteries (SIBs). Graphene‐based nanocomposites are regarded as one of the most promising electrode materials for SIBs due to the outstanding physicochemical properties of graphene and positive synergetic effects between graphene and the introduced active phase. In this review, the recent progress in graphene‐based electrode materials for SIBs with an emphasis on the electrode design principle, different preparation methods, and mechanism, characterization, synergistic effects, and their detailed electrochemical performance is summarized. General design rules for fabrication of advanced SIB materials are also proposed. Additionally, the merits and drawbacks of different fabrication methods for graphene‐based materials are briefly discussed and summarized. Furthermore, multiscale forms of graphene are evaluated to optimize electrochemical performance of SIBs, ranging from 0D graphene quantum dots, 2D vertical graphene and reduced graphene oxide sheets, to 3D graphene aerogel and graphene foam networks. To conclude, the challenges and future perspectives on the development of graphene‐based materials for SIBs are also presented.  相似文献

All‐solid‐state Li‐ion batteries based on Li7La3Zr2O12 (LLZO) garnet structures require novel electrode assembly strategies to guarantee a proper Li+ transfer at the electrode–electrolyte interfaces. Here, first stable cell performances are reported for Li‐garnet, c‐Li6.25Al0.25La3Zr2O12, all‐solid‐state batteries running safely with a full ceramics setup, exemplified with the anode material Li4Ti5O12. Novel strategies to design an enhanced Li+ transfer at the electrode–electrolyte interface using an interface‐engineered all‐solid‐state battery cell based on a porous garnet electrolyte interface structure, in which the electrode material is intimately embedded, are presented. The results presented here show for the first time that all‐solid‐state Li‐ion batteries with LLZO electrolytes can be reversibly charge–discharge cycled also in the low potential ranges (≈1.5 V) for combinations with a ceramic anode material. Through a model experiment, the interface between the electrode and electrolyte constituents is systematically modified revealing that the interface engineering helps to improve delivered capacities and cycling properties of the all‐solid‐state Li‐ion batteries based on garnet‐type cubic LLZO structures.  相似文献

Integrated design of both porous structure and crystalline morphology is expected to open up the way to a new class of materials. This report demonstrates new nanostructured Li4Ti5O12 materials with hierarchically porous structures and flower‐like morphologies. Electrochemical studies of the electrodes of Li‐ion and Na‐ion batteries clearly reveal the advantage of nanoarchitectural design of active materials. In addition, the temperature dependence of Na+‐insertion/extraction capacity in relation to Li4Ti5O12 electrodes is for the first time evaluated and it is found that elevation of the cell operating temperature effectively improves the rate capability of the Na‐ion batteries. Based on the new findings, it is suggested that specially designed Li4Ti5O12 materials allow for high‐performance Na‐ion batteries that are available as large‐scale storage devices for applications such as automotive and stationary energy storage.  相似文献

Sodium‐ion batteries are considered alternatives to lithium‐ion batteries for energy storage devices due to their competitive cost and source abundance. However, the development of electrode materials with long‐term stability and high capacity remains a great challenge. Here, this paper describes for the first time the synthesis of a new class of core–shell MAX@K2Ti8O17 by alkaline hydrothermal reaction and hydrogenation of MAX, which grants high sodium ion‐intercalation pseudocapacitance. This composite electrode displays extraordinary reversible capacities of 190 mA h g?1 at 200 mA g?1 (0.9 C, theoretical value of ≈219 mA h g?1) and 150 mA h g?1 at 1000 mA g?1 (4.6 C). More importantly, a reversible capacity of 75 mA h g?1 at 10 000 mA g?1 (46 C) is retained without any apparent capacity decay even after more than 10 000 cycles. Experimental tests and first‐principle calculations confirm that the increase in Ti3+ on the surface layers of MAX@K2Ti8O17 by hydrogenation increases its conductivity in addition to enhancing the sodium‐ion intercalation pseudocapacitive process. Furthermore, the distorted dodecahedrons between Ti and O layers not only provide abundant sites for sodium‐ion accommodation but also act as wide tunnels for sodium‐ion transport.  相似文献

The cathode materials in the Na‐ion battery system are always the key issue obstructing wider application because of their relatively low specific capacity and low energy density. A graphene oxide (GO) wrapped composite, Na2Fe2(SO4)3@C@GO, is fabricated via a simple freeze‐drying method. The as‐prepared material can deliver a 3.8 V platform with discharge capacity of 107.9 mAh g?1 at 0.1 C (1 C = 120 mA g?1) as well as offering capacity retention above 90% at a discharge rate of 0.2 C after 300 cycles. The well‐constructed carbon network provides fast electron transfer rates, and thus, higher power density also can be achieved (75.1 mAh g?1 at 10 C). The interface contribution of GO and Na2Fe2(SO4)3 is recognized and studied via density function theory calculation. The Na storage mechanism is also investigated through in situ synchrotron X‐ray diffraction, and pseudocapacitance contributions are also demonstrated. The diffusion coefficient of Na+ ions is around 10?12–10?10.8 cm2 s?1 during cycling. The higher working voltage of this composite is mainly ascribed to the larger electronegativity of the element S. The research indicates that this well‐constructed composite would be a competitive candidate as a cathode material for Na‐ion batteries.  相似文献

Sodium‐ion batteries with abundant and low‐cost sodium resources is a promising alternative to Li‐ion batteries in large‐scale energy applications. While the anode materials, due to their insufficient cycling life and insecure voltage, could not still satisfy the market demands, especially in the wide‐temperature fields, here, a high‐crystallinity anode material with post‐spinel structure, namely NaV1.25Ti0.75O4, which always maintains excellent electrochemical performance at the widely variable temperatures, is reported. The results indicate that this anode delivers a high‐safety and ultrastable room‐temperature performance (i.e., an average output voltage of 0.7 V vs Na+/Na and the ultralong cycling life over 10 000 cycles) and good wide‐temperature performance (below 9% capacity variation at 60 and ?20 °C compared to that at 25 °C). These excellent achievements could benefit from the long durability and stability of 1D channels and superfast ion diffusion in a temperature‐dependent range. This finding provides a promising strategy to construct the safe and stable full‐cell prototypes and promotes the wide‐temperature application of sodium‐ion batteries.  相似文献

Metal‐organic coordination frameworks have been widely used as efficient precursors for the preparation of functional carbon‐based materials with various nanostructures. However, to date, the design of 2D carbon nanostructures from single coordination frameworks remains a great challenge. Herein, an efficient strategy for the fabrication of N‐rich porous carbon nanosheets from 2D Zn‐hexamine coordination framework nanosheets is developed. Remarkably, the N‐doping level of carbon nanosheets can attain 16.54 at%. In addition, the thickness of the carbon nanosheets can effectively be tuned by simply adjusting the molar ratio of the starting materials. As a proof‐of‐concept application, the as‐prepared carbon nanosheets as an anode material for sodium‐ion batteries exhibit an ultrafast sodium storage capability of 194 mAh g?1 even at 10 A g?1. As far as it is known, such a high‐rate capability has been rarely achieved in previous studies on carbonaceous anode materials for Na‐ion storage. Moreover, this approach is readily controllable and could be extended to prepare a series of 2D N‐doped carbon‐based nanomaterials on a large scale.  相似文献

The achievement of the superior rate capability and cycling stability is always the pursuit of sodium‐ion batteries (SIBs). However, it is mainly restricted by the sluggish reaction kinetics and large volume change of SIBs during the discharge/charge process. This study reports a facile and scalable strategy to fabricate hierarchical architectures where TiO2 nanotube clusters are coated with the composites of ultrafine MoO2 nanoparticles embedded in carbon matrix (TiO2@MoO2‐C), and demonstrates the superior electrochemical performance as the anode material for SIBs. The ultrafine MoO2 nanoparticles and the unique nanorod structure of TiO2@MoO2‐C help to decrease the Na+ diffusion length and to accommodate the accompanying volume expansion. The good integration of MoO2 nanoparticles into carbon matrix and the cable core role of TiO2 nanotube clusters enable the rapid electron transfer during discharge/charge process. Benefiting from these structure merits, the as‐made TiO2@MoO2‐C can deliver an excellent cycling stability up to 10 000 cycles even at a high current density of 10 A g?1. Additionally, it exhibits superior rate capacities of 110 and 76 mA h g?1 at high current densities of 10 and 20 A g?1, respectively, which is mainly attributed to the high capacitance contribution.  相似文献

The high‐capacity cathode material V2O5·n H2O has attracted considerable attention for metal ion batteries due to the multielectron redox reaction during electrochemical processes. It has an expanded layer structure, which can host large ions or multivalent ions. However, structural instability and poor electronic and ionic conductivities greatly handicap its application. Here, in cell tests, self‐assembly V2O5·n H2O nanoflakes shows excellent electrochemical performance with either monovalent or multivalent cation intercalation. They are directly grown on a 3D conductive stainless steel mesh substrate via a simple and green hydrothermal method. Well‐layered nanoflakes are obtained after heat treatment at 300 °C (V2O5·0.3H2O). Nanoflakes with ultrathin flower petals deliver a stable capacity of 250 mA h g?1 in a Li‐ion cell, 110 mA h g?1 in a Na‐ion cell, and 80 mA h g?1 in an Al‐ion cell in their respective potential ranges (2.0–4.0 V for Li and Na‐ion batteries and 0.1–2.5 V for Al‐ion battery) after 100 cycles.  相似文献

Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) has been recognized as a promising anode material for high‐energy Li‐ion (LIBs) and Na‐ion batteries (SIBs) due to its apparently high capacity and intriguing 2D‐layered structure. The low conductivity, unsatisfied mechanical stability, and limited active material utilization are three key challenges associated with MoS2 electrodes especially at high current rates and mass active material loading. Here, vertical MoS2 nanosheets are controllably patterned onto electrochemically exfoliated graphene (EG). Within the achieved hierarchical architecture, the intimate contact between EG and MoS2 nanosheets, interconnected network, and effective exposure of active materials by vertical channels simultaneously overcomes the above three problems, enabling high mechanical integrity and fast charge transport kinetics. Serving as anode material for LIBs, EG‐MoS2 with 95 wt% MoS2 content delivered an ultrahigh‐specific capacity of 1250 mA h g?1 after 150 stable cycles at 1 A g?1, which is among the highest values in all reported MoS2 electrodes, and excellent rate performance (970 mA h g?1 at 5 A g?1). Moreover, impressive cycling stability (509 mA h g?1 at 1 A g?1 after 250 cycles) and rate capability (423 mA h g?1 at 2 A g?1) were also achieved for SIBs. The area capacities reached 1.27 and 0.49 mA h cm?2 at ≈1 mA cm?2 for LIBs and SIBs, respectively. This work may inspire the development of new 2D hierarchical structures for high efficiency energy storage and conversion.  相似文献
