Layered sodium titanium oxide, Na2Ti3O7, is synthesized by a solid‐state reaction method as a potential anode for sodium‐ion batteries. Through optimization of the electrolyte and binder, the microsized Na2Ti3O7 electrode delivers a reversible capacity of 188 mA h g?1 in 1 M NaFSI/PC electrolyte at a current rate of 0.1C in a voltage range of 0.0–3.0 V, with sodium alginate as binder. The average Na storage voltage plateau is found at ca. 0.3 V vs. Na+/Na, in good agreement with a first‐principles prediction of 0.35 V. The Na storage properties in Na2Ti3O7 are investigated from thermodynamic and kinetic aspects. By reducing particle size, the nanosized Na2Ti3O7 exhibits much higher capacity, but still with unsatisfied cyclic properties. The solid‐state interphase layer on Na2Ti3O7 electrode is analyzed. A zero‐current overpotential related to thermodynamic factors is observed for both nano‐ and microsized Na2Ti3O7. The electronic structure, Na+ ion transport and conductivity are investigated by the combination of first‐principles calculation and electrochemical characterizations. On the basis of the vacancy‐hopping mechanism, a quasi‐3D energy favorable trajectory is proposed for Na2Ti3O7. The Na+ ions diffuse between the TiO6 octahedron layers with pretty low activation energy of 0.186 eV.  相似文献

The current Na+ storage performance of carbon‐based materials is still hindered by the sluggish Na+ ion transfer kinetics and low capacity. Graphene and its derivatives have been widely investigated as electrode materials in energy storage and conversion systems. However, as anode materials for sodium‐ion batteries (SIBs), the severe π–π restacking of graphene sheets usually results in compact structure with a small interlayer distance and a long ion transfer distance, thus leading to low capacity and poor rate capability. Herein, partially reduced holey graphene oxide is prepared by simple H2O2 treatment and subsequent low temperature reduction of graphene oxide, leading to large interlayer distance (0.434 nm), fast ion transport, and larger Na+ storage space. The partially remaining oxygenous groups can also contribute to the capacity by redox reaction. As anode material for SIBs, the optimized electrode delivers high reversible capacity, high rate capability (365 and 131 mAh g?1 at 0.1 and 10 A g?1, respectively), and good cycling performance (163 mAh g?1 after 3000 cycles at a current density of 2 A g?1), which is among the best reported performances for carbon‐based SIB anodes.  相似文献

Hard carbon (HC) is the state‐of‐the‐art anode material for sodium‐ion batteries (SIBs). However, its performance has been plagued by the limited initial Coulombic efficiency (ICE) and mediocre rate performance. Here, experimental and theoretical studies are combined to demonstrate the application of lithium‐pretreated HC (LPHC) as high‐performance anode materials for SIBs by manipulating the solid electrolyte interphase in tetraglyme (TEGDME)‐based electrolyte. The LPHC in TEGDME can 1) deliver > 92% ICE and ≈220 mAh g?1 specific capacity, twice of the capacity (≈100 mAh g?1) in carbonate electrolyte; 2) achieve > 85% capacity retention over 1000 cycles at 1000 mA g?1 current density (4 C rate, 1 C = 250 mA g?1) with a specific capacity of ≈150 mAh g?1, ≈15 times of the capacity (10 mAh g?1) in carbonate. The full cell of Na3V2(PO4)3‐LPHC in TEGDME demonstrated close to theoretical specific capacity of ≈98 mAh g?1 based on Na3V2(PO4)3 cathode, ≈2.5 times of the value (≈40 mAh g?1) with nontreated HC. This work provides new perception on the anode development for SIBs.  相似文献

A novel combination of hard carbon anode sodium pre‐loading and a tailored electrolyte is used to prepare room temperature sodium‐sulfur full cell batteries. The electrochemical loading with sodium ions is realized in a specific mixture of diethyl carbonate, ethylene carbonate, and fluoroethylene carbonate electrolyte in order to create a first solid electrolyte interface (SEI) on the anode surface. Combining such anodes with a porous carbon/sulfur composite cathode results in full cells with a significantly decreased polysulfide shuttle when compared to half cells combined with metallic sodium anodes. Further optimization involves the use of Na2S/P2S5 doped tetraethylene glycol dimethyl ether based electrolyte in the full cell for the formation of a second SEI, reducing polysulfide shuttle even further. More importantly, the electrochemical discharge processes in the cell are improved by adding this dissolved complexation agent to the electrolyte. As a result of this combination sodium‐sulfur cells with tailored cathode materials and electrolytes can achieve high discharge capacities up to 980 mAh g?1sulfur and 1000 cycles with 200 mAh g?1sulfur remaining capacity, at room temperature.  相似文献

Room‐temperature (RT) sodium–sulfur (Na–S) batteries are attractive cost‐effective platforms as the next‐generation energy storage systems by using all earth‐abundant resources as electrode materials. However, the slow kinetics of Na–S chemistry makes it hard to achieve high‐rate performance. Herein, a facile and scalable approach has been developed to synthesize hollow sodium sulfide (Na2S) nanospheres embedded in a highly hierarchical and spongy conductive carbon matrix, forming an intriguing architecture similar to the morphology of frogspawn coral, which has shown great potential as a cathode for high‐rate performance RT Na–S batteries. The shortened Na‐ion diffusion pathway benefits from the hollow structures together with the fast electron transfer from the carbon matrix contributes to high electrochemical reactivity, leading to superior electrochemical performance at various current rates. At high current densities of 1.4 and 2.1 A g?1, high initial discharge capacities of 980 and 790 mAh g?1sulfur can be achieved, respectively, with reversible capacities stabilized at 600 and 400 mAh g?1sulfur after 100 cycles. As a proof of concept, a Na‐metal‐free Na–S battery is demonstrated by pairing the hollow Na2S cathode with tin‐based anode. This work provides guidance on rational materials design towards the success of RT high‐rate Na–S batteries.  相似文献

Conventional graphite anodes can hardly intercalate sodium (Na) ions, which poses a serious challenge for developing Na‐ion batteries. This study details a novel method that involves single‐step laser‐based transformation of urea‐containing polyimide into an expanded 3D graphene anode, with simultaneous doping of high concentrations of nitrogen (≈13 at%). The versatile nature of this laser‐scribing approach enables direct bonding of the 3D graphene anode to the current collectors without the need for binders or conductive additives, which presents a clear advantage over chemical or hydrothermal methods. It is shown that these conductive and expanded 3D graphene structures perform exceptionally well as anodes for Na‐ion batteries. Specifically, an initial coulombic efficiency (CE) up to 74% is achieved, which exceeds that of most reported carbonaceous anodes, such as hard carbon and soft carbon. In addition, Na‐ion capacity up to 425 mAh g?1 at 0.1 A g?1 has been achieved with excellent rate capabilities. Further, a capacity of 148 mAh g?1 at a current density of 10 A g?1 is obtained with excellent cycling stability, opening a new direction for the fabrication of 3D graphene anodes directly on current collectors for metal ion battery anodes as well as other potential applications.  相似文献

Silicon is attracting enormous attention due to its theoretical capacity of 4200 mAh g?1 as an anode for Li‐ion batteries (LIBs). It is of fundamental importance and challenge to develop low‐temperature reaction route to controllably synthesize Si/Ti3C2 MXene LIBs anodes. Herein, a novel and efficient strategy integrating in situ orthosilicate hydrolysis and a low‐temperature reduction process to synthesize Si/Ti3C2 MXene composites is reported. The hydrolysis of tetraethyl orthosilicate leads to homogenous nucleation and growth of SiO2 nanoparticles on the surface of Ti3C2 MXene. Subsequently, SiO2 nanoparticles are reduced to Si via a low‐temperature (200 °C) reduction route. Importantly, Ti3C2 MXene not only provides fast transfer channels for Li+ and electrons, but also relieves volume expansion of Si during cycling. Moreover, the characteristics of excellent pseudocapacitive performance and high conductivity of Ti3C2 MXene can synergistically contribute to the enhancement of energy storage performance. As expected, Ti3C2/Si anode exhibits an outstanding specific capacity of 1849 mAh g?1 at 100 mA g?1, even retaining 956 mAh g?1 at 1 A g?1. The low‐temperature synthetic route to Si/Ti3C2 MXene electrodes and involved battery‐capacitive dual‐model energy storage mechanism has potential in the design of novel high‐performance electrodes for energy storage devices.  相似文献

Herein, P′2‐type Na0.67[Ni0.1Fe0.1Mn0.8]O2 is introduced as a promising new cathode material for sodium‐ion batteries (SIBs) that exhibits remarkable structural stability during repetitive Na+ de/intercalation. The O? Ni? O? Mn? O? Fe? O bond in the octahedra of transition‐metal layers is used to suppress the elongation of the Mn? O bond and to improve the electrochemical activity, leading to the highly reversible Na storage mechanism. A high discharge capacity of ≈220 mAh g?1 (≈605 Wh kg?1) is delivered at 0.05 C (13 mAg?1) with a high reversible capacity of ≈140 mAh g?1 at 3 C and excellent capacity retention of 80% over 200 cycles. This performance is associated with the reversible P′2–OP4 phase transition and small volume change upon charge and discharge (≈3%). The nature of the sodium storage mechanism in a full cell paired with a hard carbon anode reveals an unexpectedly high energy density of ≈542 Wh kg?1 at 0.2 C and good capacity retention of ≈81% for 500 cycles at 1 C (260 mAg?1).  相似文献

Antimony (Sb) is a promising anode material for sodium‐ion batteries owing to its large capacity of 660 mAh g?1. However, its practical application is restricted by the rapid capacity decay resulted from a large volume expansion up to 390% upon Na alloying. Herein, construction of a self‐supported Sb array that has enough space allowing for effective accommodation of the volume change is reported. The array of Sb prisms is directly grown on a Cu substrate via a template‐free electrodeposition, followed by mild heating to consolidate the structural integrity between Sb and Cu. The resulting 3D architecture endows the Sb array with excellent sodium storage performance, exhibiting a reversible capacity of 578 mAh g?1 and retaining 531 mAh g?1 over 100 cycles at 0.5 C. The potential of Sb array in sodium‐ion full cells by pairing it with a Na0.67(Ni0.23Mg0.1Mn0.67)O2 cathode is further demonstrated. This full cell affords a specific energy of 197 Wh kg?1 at 0.2 C and a specific power of 1280 W kg?1 at 5 C. Considering its low cost and scale‐up capability, the template‐free route may find extensive applications in designing electrode architectures.  相似文献

SnS2 nanoplatelet electrodes can offer an exceptionally high pseudocapacitance in an organic Na+ ion electrolyte system, but their underlying mechanisms are still largely unexplored, hindering the practical applications of pseudocapacitive SnS2 anodes in Na‐ion batteries (SIBs) and Na hybrid capacitors (SHCs). Herein, SnS2 nanoplatelets are grown directly on SnO2/C composites to synthesize SnS2/graphene‐carbon nanotube aerogel (SnS2/GCA) by pressurized sulfidation where the original morphology of carbon framework is preserved. The composite electrode possessing a large surface area delivers a remarkable specific capacity of 600.3 mA h g?1 at 0.2 A g?1 and 304.8 mA h g?1 at an ultrahigh current density of 10 A g?1 in SIBs. SHCs comprising a SnS2/GCA composite anode and an activated carbon cathode present exceptional energy densities of 108.3 and 26.9 W h kg?1 at power densities of 130 and 6053 W kg?1, respectively. The in situ transmission electron microscopy and the density functional theory calculations reveal that the excellent pseudocapacitance originates from the combination of Na adsorption on the surface/Sn edge of SnS2 nanoplatelets and ultrafast Na+ ion intercalation into the SnS2 layers.  相似文献

Metal phosphides are promising anode candidates for sodium‐ion batteries (SIBs) due to their high specific capacity and low operating potential but suffer from poor cycling stability caused by huge volume expansion and poor solid‐state ion transfer rate. Herein, a new strategy to grow a new class of mesoporous metal phosphide nanoarrays on carbon felt (CF) as binder‐free anodes for SIBs is reported. The resultant integrated electrodes demonstrate excellent cycling life up to 1000 times (>90% retention rate) and high rate capability of 535 mAh g?1 at a current density of 4 A g?1. Detailed characterization reveals that the synergistic effect of unique mesoporous structure for accommodating huge volume expansion during sodiation/desodiation process, ultrasmall primary particle size (≈10 nm) for providing larger electrode/electrolyte contact area and shorter ion diffusion distance, and 3D conductive networks for facilitating the electrochemical reaction, leads to the extraordinary battery performance. Remarkably, a full SIB using the new CoP4/CF anode and a Na3V2(PO4)2F3 cathode delivers an average operating voltage of ≈3.0 V, a reversible capacity of 553 mAh g?1, and very high energy density of ≈280 Wh kg?1 for SIBs. A flexible SIB with outstanding mechanical strength based on this binder‐free new anode is also demonstrated.  相似文献

Exploring new structure prototypes and phases by material design, especially anode materials, is essential to develop high‐performance Na‐ion batteries. This study proposes a new anode, Na2Cu2.09O0.50S2, with a 1D crystal structure and outstanding Na storage performance. In view of the crystal structure of Na2Cu2.09O0.50S2, [Cu4S4] chains act as electrically conducting units enabling conductivity as high as 0.5 S cm?1. The residual Na4[CuO] chains act as ionically conducting units forming rich channels for the fast conduction of Na ions as well as maintaining the structural stability even after Na ion extraction. Additional ball milling on the as‐prepared Na2Cu2.09O0.50S2 significantly decreases its grain size, achieving a capacity of 588 mA h g?1 with a high initial Coulombic efficiency of 93% at 0.2 A g?1. Moreover, the Na2Cu2.09O0.50S2 anode demonstrates outstanding rate capability (408 mA h g?1 at 2 A g?1) and extending cyclic performance (82% of capacity retention after 400 cycles). The general structural design idea based on functional units may offer a new avenue to new electrode materials.  相似文献

A high‐rate of oxygen redox assisted by cobalt in layered sodium‐based compounds is achieved. The rationally designed Na0.6[Mg0.2Mn0.6Co0.2]O2 exhibits outstanding electrode performance, delivering a discharge capacity of 214 mAh g?1 (26 mA g?1) with capacity retention of 87% after 100 cycles. High rate performance is also achieved at 7C (1.82 A g?1) with a capacity of 107 mAh g?1. Surprisingly, the Na0.6[Mg0.2Mn0.6Co0.2]O2 compound is able to deliver capacity for 1000 cycles at 5C (at 1.3 A g?1), retaining 72% of its initial capacity of 108 mAh g?1. X‐ray absorption spectroscopy analysis of the O K‐edge indicates the oxygen‐redox species (O2?/1?) is active during cycling. First‐principles calculations show that the addition of Co reduces the bandgap energy from ≈2.65 to ≈0.61 eV and that overlapping of the Co 3d and O 2p orbitals facilitates facile electron transfer, enabling the long‐term reversibility of the oxygen redox, even at high rates. To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first report on high‐rate oxygen redox in sodium‐based cathode materials, and it is believed that the findings will open a new pathway for the use of oxygen‐redox‐based materials for sodium‐ion batteries.  相似文献

Use of a protective coating on a lithium metal anode (LMA) is an effective approach to enhance its coulombic efficiency and cycling stability. Here, a facile approach to produce uniform silver nanoparticle‐decorated LMA for high‐performance Li metal batteries (LMBs) is reported. This effective treatment can lead to well‐controlled nucleation and the formation of a stable solid electrolyte interphase (SEI). Ag nanoparticles embedded in the surface of Li anodes induce uniform Li plating/stripping morphologies with reduced overpotential. More importantly, cross‐linked lithium fluoride‐rich interphase formed during Ag+ reduction enables a highly stable SEI layer. Based on the Ag‐LiF decorated anodes, LMBs with LiNi1/3Mn1/3Co1/3O2 cathode (≈1.8 mAh cm?2) can retain >80% capacity over 500 cycles. The similar approach can also be used to treat sodium metal anodes. Excellent stability (80% capacity retention in 10 000 cycles) is obtained for a Na||Na3V2(PO4)3 full cell using a Na‐Ag‐NaF/Na anode cycled in carbonate electrolyte. These results clearly indicate that synergetic control of the nucleation and SEI is an efficient approach to stabilize rechargeable metal batteries.  相似文献

Sodium (Na) super ion conductor structured Na3V2(PO4)3 (NVP) is extensively explored as cathode material for sodium‐ion batteries (SIBs) due to its large interstitial channels for Na+ migration. The synthesis of 3D graphene‐like structure coated on NVP nanoflakes arrays via a one‐pot, solid‐state reaction in molten hydrocarbon is reported. The NVP nanoflakes are uniformly coated by the in situ generated 3D graphene‐like layers with the thickness of 3 nm. As a cathode material, graphene covered NVP nanoflakes exhibit excellent electrochemical performances, including close to theoretical reversible capacity (115.2 mA h g?1 at 1 C), superior rate capability (75.9 mA h g?1 at 200 C), and excellent cyclic stability (62.5% of capacity retention over 30000 cycles at 50 C). Furthermore, the 3D graphene‐like cages after removing NVP also serve as a good anode material and deliver a specific capacity of 242.5 mA h g?1 at 0.1 A g?1. The full SIB using these two cathode and anode materials delivers a high specific capacity (109.2 mA h g?1 at 0.1 A g?1) and good cycling stability (77.1% capacity retention over 200 cycles at 0.1 A g?1).  相似文献

Sodium ion batteries (SIBs) have drawn significant attention owing to their low cost and inherent safety. However, the absence of suitable anode materials with high rate capability and long cycling stability is the major challenge for the practical application of SIBs. Herein, an efficient anode material consisting of uniform hollow iron sulfide polyhedrons with cobalt doping and graphene wrapping (named as CoFeS@rGO) is developed for high‐rate and long‐life SIBs. The graphene‐encapsulated hollow composite assures fast and continuous electron transportation, high Na+ ion accessibility, and strong structural integrity, showing an extremely small volume expansion of only 14.9% upon sodiation and negligible volume contraction during the desodiation. The CoFeS@rGO electrode exhibits high specific capacity (661.9 mAh g?1 at 100 mA g?1), excellent rate capability (449.4 mAh g?1 at 5000 mA g?1), and long cycle life (84.8% capacity retention after 1500 cycles at 1000 mA g?1). In situ X‐ray diffraction and selected‐area electron diffraction patterns show that this novel CoFeS@rGO electrode is based on a reversible conversion reaction. More importantly, when coupled with a Na3V2(PO4)3/C cathode, the sodium ion full battery delivers a superexcellent rate capability (496.8 mAh g?1 at 2000 mA g?1) and ≈96.5% capacity retention over 200 cycles at 500 mA g?1 in the 1.0–3.5 V window. This work indicates that the rationally designed anode material is highly applicable for the next generation SIBs with high‐rate capability and long‐term cyclability.  相似文献

The cathode materials in the Na‐ion battery system are always the key issue obstructing wider application because of their relatively low specific capacity and low energy density. A graphene oxide (GO) wrapped composite, Na2Fe2(SO4)3@C@GO, is fabricated via a simple freeze‐drying method. The as‐prepared material can deliver a 3.8 V platform with discharge capacity of 107.9 mAh g?1 at 0.1 C (1 C = 120 mA g?1) as well as offering capacity retention above 90% at a discharge rate of 0.2 C after 300 cycles. The well‐constructed carbon network provides fast electron transfer rates, and thus, higher power density also can be achieved (75.1 mAh g?1 at 10 C). The interface contribution of GO and Na2Fe2(SO4)3 is recognized and studied via density function theory calculation. The Na storage mechanism is also investigated through in situ synchrotron X‐ray diffraction, and pseudocapacitance contributions are also demonstrated. The diffusion coefficient of Na+ ions is around 10?12–10?10.8 cm2 s?1 during cycling. The higher working voltage of this composite is mainly ascribed to the larger electronegativity of the element S. The research indicates that this well‐constructed composite would be a competitive candidate as a cathode material for Na‐ion batteries.  相似文献

Titanium niobium oxide (TiNb2O7) has been recognized as a promising anode material for lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs) in view of its potential to operate at high rates with improved safety and high theoretical capacity of 387 mAh g?1. However, it suffers from poor Li+ ion diffusivity and low electronic conductivity originated from its wide band gap energy (Eg > 2 eV). Here, porous TiNb2O7 microspheres (PTNO MSs) are prepared via a facile solvothermal reaction. PTNO MSs have a particle size of ≈1.2 μm and controllable pore sizes in the range of 5–35 nm. Ammonia gas nitridation treatment is conducted on PTNO MSs to introduce conducting Ti1?xNbxN layer on the surface and form nitridated PTNO (NPTNO) MSs. The porous structure and conducting Ti1?xNbxN layer enhance the transport kinetics associated with Li+ ions and electrons, which leads to significant improvement in electrochemical performance. As a result, the NPTNO electrode shows a high discharge capacity of ≈265 mAh g?1, remarkable rate capability (≈143 mAh g?1 at 100 C) and durable long‐term cyclability (≈91% capacity retention over 1000 cycles at 5 C). These results demonstrate the great potential of TiNb2O7 as a practical high‐rate anode material for LIBs.  相似文献

Sodium‐ion batteries are promising for grid‐scale storage applications due to the natural abundance and low cost of sodium. However, few electrodes that can meet the requirements for practical applications are available today due to the limited routes to exploring new materials. Here, a new strategy is proposed through partially/fully substituting the redox couple of existing negative electrodes in their reduced forms to design the corresponding new positive electrode materials. The power of this strategy is demonstrated through the successful design of new tunnel‐type positive electrode materials of Na0.61[Mn0.61‐xFexTi0.39]O2, composed of non‐toxic and abundant elements: Na, Mn, Fe, Ti. In particular, the designed air‐stable Na0.61[Mn0.27Fe0.34Ti0.39]O2 shows a usable capacity of ≈90 mAh g?1, registering the highest value among the tunnel‐type oxides, and a high storage voltage of 3.56 V, corresponding to the Fe3+/Fe4+ redox couple realized for the first time in non‐layered oxides, which was confirmed by X‐ray absorption spectroscopy and Mössbauer spectroscopy. This new strategy would open an exciting route to explore electrode materials for rechargeable batteries.  相似文献

Ultrathin Li4Ti5O12 nanosheet based hierarchical microspheres are synthesized through a three‐step hydrothermal procedure. The average thickness of the Li4Ti5O12 sheets is only ≈(6.6 ± 0.25) nm and the specific surface area of the sample is 178 m2 g?1. When applied into lithium ion batteries as anode materials, the hierarchical Li4Ti5O12 microspheres exhibit high specific capacities at high rates (156 mA h g?1 at 20 C, 150 mA h g?1 at 50 C) and maintain a capacity of 126 mA h g?1 after 3000 cycles at 20 C. The results clearly suggest that the utility of hierarchical structures based on ultrathin nanosheets can promote the lithium insertion/extraction reactions in Li4Ti5O12. The obtained hierarchical Li4Ti5O12 with ultrathin nanosheets and large specific surface area can be perfect anode materials for the lithium ion batteries applied in high power facilities, such as electric vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles.  相似文献
