By employing in situ reduction of metal precursor and metal‐assisted carbon etching process, this study achieves a series of ultrafine transition metal‐based nanoparticles (Ni–Fe, Ni–Mo) embedded in N‐doped carbon, which are found efficient catalysts for electrolytic water splitting. The as‐prepared hybrid materials demonstrate outstanding catalytic activities as non‐noble metal electrodes rendered by the synergistic effect of bimetal elements and N‐dopants, the improved electrical conductivity, and hydrophilism. Ni/Mo2C@N‐doped porous carbon (NiMo‐polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)) and NiFe@N‐doped carbon (NiFe‐PVP) produce low overpotentials of 130 and 297 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm?2 as catalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction and oxygen evolution reaction, respectively. In addition, these binder‐free electrodes show long‐term stability. Overall water splitting is also demonstrated based on the couple of NiMo‐PVP||NiFe‐PVP catalyzer. This represents a simple and effective synthesis method toward a new type of nanometal–carbon hybrid electrodes.  相似文献

Hydrogen evolution by means of electrocatalytic water‐splitting is pivotal for efficient and economical production of hydrogen, which relies on the development of inexpensive, highly active catalysts. In addition to sulfides, the search for non‐noble metal catalysts has been mainly directed at phosphides due to the superb activity of phosphides for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and their low‐cost considering the abundance of the non‐noble constituents of phosphides. Here, recent research focusing on phosphides is summarized based on their synthetic methodology. A comparative study of the catalytic activity of different phosphides towards HER is then conducted. The catalytic activity is evaluated by overpotentials at fixed current density, Tafel slope, turnover frequency, and the Gibbs free energy of hydrogen adsorption. Based on the methods discussed, perspectives for the various methods of phosphides synthesis are given, and the origins of the high activity and the role of phosphorus on the improved activity towards HER are discussed.  相似文献

Water splitting requires development of cost‐effective multifunctional materials that can catalyze both the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) efficiently. Currently, the OER relies on the noble‐metal catalysts; since with other catalysts, its operation environment is greatly limited in alkaline conditions. Herein, an advanced water oxidation catalyst based on metallic Co9S8 decorated with single‐atomic Mo (0.99 wt%) is synthesized (Mo‐Co9S8@C). It exhibits pronounced water oxidization activity in acid, alkali, and neutral media by showing positive onset potentials of 200, 90, and 290 mV, respectively, which manifests the best Co9S8‐based single‐atom Mo catalyst till now. Moreover, it also demonstrates excellent HER performance over a wide pH range. Consequently, the catalyst even outperforms noble metal Pt/IrO2‐based catalysts for overall water splitting (only requiring 1.68 V in acid, and 1.56 V in alkaline). Impressively, it works under a current density of 10 mA cm?2 with no obvious decay during a 24 h (0.5 m H2SO4) and 72 h (1.0 m KOH) durability experiment. Density functional theory (DFT) simulations reveal that the synergistic effects of atomically dispersed Mo with Co‐containing substrates can efficiently alter the binding energies of adsorbed intermediate species and decrease the overpotentials of the water splitting.  相似文献

Construction of well‐defined metal–organic framework precursor is vital to derive highly efficient transition metal–carbon‐based electrocatalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in water splitting. Herein, a novel strategy involving an in situ transformation of ultrathin cobalt layered double hydroxide into 2D cobalt zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF‐67) nanosheets grafted with 3D ZIF‐67 polyhedra supported on the surface of carbon cloth (2D/3D ZIF‐67@CC) precursor is proposed. After a low‐temperature pyrolysis, this precursor can be further converted into hybrid composites composed of ultrafine cobalt nanoparticles embedded within 2D N‐doped carbon nanosheets and 3D N‐doped hollow carbon polyhedra (Co@N‐CS/N‐HCP@CC). Experimental and density functional theory calculations results indicate that such composites have the advantages of a large number of accessible active sites, accelerated charge/mass transfer ability, the synergistic effect of components as well as an optimal water adsorption energy change. As a result, the obtained Co@N‐CS/N‐HCP@CC catalyst requires overpotentials of only 66 and 248 mV to reach a current density of 10 mA cm?2 for HER and OER in 1.0 m KOH, respectively. Remarkably, it enables an alkali‐electrolyzer with a current density of 10 mA cm?2 at a low cell voltage of 1.545 V, superior to that of the IrO2@CC||Pt/C@CC couple (1.592 V).  相似文献

A newly designed water‐stable NH2‐MIL‐88B(Fe2Ni)‐metal–organic framework (MOF), in situ grown on the surface of a highly conducting 3D macroporous nickel foam (NF), termed NFN‐MOF/NF, is demonstrated to be a highly efficient bifunctional electrocatalyst for overall water splitting with ultrastability at high current densities. The NFN‐MOF/NF achieves ultralow overpotentials of 240 and 87 mV at current density of 10 mA cm?2 for the oxygen evolution reaction and hydrogen evolution reaction, respectively, in 1 m KOH. For the overall water splitting, it requires only an ultralow cell voltage of 1.56 V to reach the current density of 10 mA cm?2, outperforming the pairing of Pt/C on NF as the cathode and IrO2 on NF as the anode at the same catalyst loading. The stability of the NFN‐MOF/NF catalyst is also outstanding, exhibiting only a minor chronopotentiometric decay of 7.8% at 500 mA cm?2 after 30 h. The success of the present NFN‐MOF/NF catalyst is attributed to the abundant active centers, the bimetallic clusters {Fe2Ni(µ3‐O)(COO)6(H2O)3}, in the MOF, the positive coupling effect between Ni and Fe metal ions in the MOF, and synergistic effect between the MOF and NF.  相似文献

Targeted activation of highly ordered and distributed metal sites in nanoporous frameworks is a generic strategy to develop high‐performance catalysts. The key challenge is to achieve such activation without damaging the frameworks. Here it is demonstrated that atmospheric‐pressure low‐temperature plasma generated in air improve catalytic properties of an Fe/Co bimetallic cyanide framework through the specific “soft” incorporation of reactive oxygen species without affecting the framework structure. The bonding and oxidative states of the high‐density catalytic metal sites in the framework are modified while the nanoporous nature of the framework is retained, which leads to superior catalytic performance for the oxygen evolution reaction at high current densities close to the operation conditions of commercial alkaline electrolyzers.  相似文献

The combination of precious metals with non‐noble metals is an effective way to develop highly efficient, stable, and low cost electrocatalysts for overall water splitting. Herein, RhCu nanotubes (NTs) with rich structural defects are successfully synthesized by a mixed‐solvent strategy, which display superior activity and excellent stability for both the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction in all pH values. In particular, it only needs 8, 12, and 57 mV to deliver the current density of 10 mA cm?2 for HER in alkaline, acidic, and neutral conditions, respectively. Experiments combined with density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that the exposure of a suitable composition of a highly active Rh3Cu1 alloy phase through acid etching is the key to improve electrocatalytic performance, since it weakens the adsorption free energy of atomic oxygen and hydrogen, as well as facilitating the dissociation of water molecules. In addition, the structural defects can also boost the catalytic performance because the adsorption of reactants can be largely enhanced. The results provide a simple method to prepare alloy NTs as highly efficient electrocatalysts for overall water splitting in all pH values.  相似文献
