The development of efficient hydrogen evolution reaction electrocatalysts is critical to the realization of clean hydrogen fuel production, while the sluggish kinetics of the Volmer‐step substantially restricts the catalyst performances in alkali electrolyzers, even for noble metal catalysts such as Pt. Here, a Pt‐decorated Ni3N nanosheet electrocatalyst is developed to achieve a top performance of hydrogen evolution in alkaline conditions. Possessing a high metallic conductivity and an atomic‐thin semiconducting hydroxide surface, the Ni3N nanosheets serve as not only an efficient electron pathway without the hindrance of Schottky barriers, but also provide abundant active sites for water dissociation and generation of hydrogen intermediates, which are further adsorbed on the Pt surface to recombine to H2. The Pt‐decorated Ni3N nanosheet catalyst exhibits a hydrogen evolution current density of 200 mA cm?2 at an overpotential of 160 mV versus reversible hydrogen electrode, a Tafel slope of ≈36.5 mV dec?1, and excellent stability of 82.5% current retention after 24 h of operation. Moreover, a hybrid cell consisting of a Pt‐decorated Ni3N nanosheet cathode and a Li‐metal anode is assembled to achieve simultaneous hydrogen evolution and electricity generation, exhibiting >60 h long‐term hydrogen evolution reaction stability and an output voltage ranging from 1.3 to 2.2 V.  相似文献

Transition metal phosphide catalysts have recently emerged as active, earth abundant alternatives to precious metals for the hydrogen evolution reaction in acid. High performance, scalable catalysts are necessary for the successful implementation of photoelectrochemical water splitting devices, which have the potential to generate hydrogen in a sustainable manner. Herein, a general synthetic route is reported to produce transition metal phosphide thin films, which is used to fabricate cobalt phosphide (CoP) catalysts with high average turnover frequency (TOFavg), 0.48 H2 s?1 and 1.0 H2 s?1 at 100 and 120 mV overpotential, respectively. Furthermore, it is shown that CoP thin films can be applied to silicon photoabsorbers to generate one of the most active precious metal‐free crystalline silicon photocathodes to date, achieving ?10 mA cm?2 at +0.345 V vs. reversible hydrogen electrode. The synthesis route presented here provides a platform for both fundamental studies of well‐defined electrocatalysts and the fabrication of high‐performance photoelectrodes.  相似文献

Exploiting noble‐metal‐free cocatalysts is of huge interest for photocatalytic water splitting using solar energy. As an efficient cocatalyst in photocatalysis, MoS2 is shown promise as a low‐cost alternative to Pt for hydrogen evolution. Here we report a systematical study on controlled synthesis of MoS2 with layer number ranging from ≈1 to 112 and their activities for photocatalytic H2 evolution over commercial CdS. A drastic increase in photocatalytic H2 evolution is observed with decreasing MoS2 layer number. Particularly for the single‐layer (SL) MoS2, the SL‐MoS2/CdS sample reaches a high H2 generation rate of ≈2.01 × 10?3m h?1 in Na2S–Na2SO3 solutions and ≈2.59 × 10?3m h?1 in lactic acid solutions, corresponding to an apparent quantum efficiency of 30.2% and 38.4% at 420 nm, respectively. In addition to the more exposed edges and unsaturated active S atoms, valence band–XPS and Mott–Schottky plots analysis indicate that the SL MoS2 has the more negative conduction band energy level than the H+/H2 potential, facilitating the hydrogen reduction.  相似文献

Water splitting requires development of cost‐effective multifunctional materials that can catalyze both the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) efficiently. Currently, the OER relies on the noble‐metal catalysts; since with other catalysts, its operation environment is greatly limited in alkaline conditions. Herein, an advanced water oxidation catalyst based on metallic Co9S8 decorated with single‐atomic Mo (0.99 wt%) is synthesized (Mo‐Co9S8@C). It exhibits pronounced water oxidization activity in acid, alkali, and neutral media by showing positive onset potentials of 200, 90, and 290 mV, respectively, which manifests the best Co9S8‐based single‐atom Mo catalyst till now. Moreover, it also demonstrates excellent HER performance over a wide pH range. Consequently, the catalyst even outperforms noble metal Pt/IrO2‐based catalysts for overall water splitting (only requiring 1.68 V in acid, and 1.56 V in alkaline). Impressively, it works under a current density of 10 mA cm?2 with no obvious decay during a 24 h (0.5 m H2SO4) and 72 h (1.0 m KOH) durability experiment. Density functional theory (DFT) simulations reveal that the synergistic effects of atomically dispersed Mo with Co‐containing substrates can efficiently alter the binding energies of adsorbed intermediate species and decrease the overpotentials of the water splitting.  相似文献

The quaternary oxide CsTaWO6 exhibits a very high activity for photocatalytic hydrogen generation and water splitting. To improve its properties with regard to photocatalytic applications, it is prepared with mesoporous morphology for the first time, utilizing a template‐based evaporation‐induced self‐assembly process. The resulting material exhibits a median mesopore size of 10 nm, a surface area of 60 m2 g?1, and high crystallinity after preparation at 550 °C with phase‐pure defect‐pyrochlore structure. To further improve the textural properties of mesoporous CsTaWO6, the addition of additives to the synthesis procedure is also investigated. By using H2SO4/HCl and a carbonization/oxidation procedure, the surface area of the resulting mesoporous CsTaWO6 is increased to 78 m2 g?1, which is a 20‐fold increase compared to a nonporous reference via sol‐gel preparation, also leading to improved photocatalytic activity. By investigating the ability for photocatalytic hydrogen generation, the importance of high surface area and pore diameter of the resulting materials in comparison to nonporous materials is presented. Interestingly, the photocatalytic activity does not increase linearly with surface area, due to a strong influence of the pore diameter on the photocatalytic activity.  相似文献

Water splitting is a promising technology for sustainable conversion of hydrogen energy. The rational design of oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) bifunctional electrocatalysts with superior activity and stability in the same electrolyte is the key to promoting their large‐scale applications. Herein, an ultralow Ru (1.08 wt%) transition metal phosphide on nickel foam (Ru–MnFeP/NF) derived from Prussian blue analogue, that effectively drivies both the OER and the HER in 1 m KOH, is reported. To reach 20 mA cm?2 for OER and 10 mA cm?2 for HER, the Ru–MnFeP/NF electrode only requires overpotentials of 191 and 35 mV, respectively. Such high electrocatalytic activity exceeds most transition metal phosphides for the OER and the HER, and even reaches Pt‐like HER electrocatalytic levels. Accordingly, it significantly accelerates full water splitting at 10 mA cm?2 with 1.470 V, which outperforms that of the integrated RuO2 and Pt/C couple electrode (1.560 V). In addition, the extremely long operational stability (50 h) and the successful demonstration of a solar‐to‐hydrogen generation system through full water splitting provide more flexibility for large‐scale applications of Ru–MnFeP/NF catalysts.  相似文献

The recent discovery that metal‐free polyterthiophene (PTTh) prepared by iodine‐vapor‐assisted polymerization (IVP) can catalyze the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) when illuminated, and this light‐enhanced electrolysis expresses a non‐Nernstian relation with pH, provides the foundation for further improvement of the photovoltage of the reaction by engineering the band structure of the light‐absorbing polymer. Deviating from an all‐thiophene backbone, using poly(1,4‐di(2‐thienyl))benzene (PDTB) lowers the highest occupied molecular orbital level by ≈0.3 eV compared with polythiophene, and PDTB simultaneously maintains the photoelectrocatalytic properties without an all‐thiophene backbone, resulting in very high conversion rate of 600 mmol(H2) h?1 g?1 at 0 V versus the reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) at pH 11. PDTB shows the same non‐Nernstian behavior as PTTh with increasing onset potential (versus RHE) at higher pH, and the open circuit potential on PDTB under visible light reaches 1.4 V versus RHE at pH 12. The PDTB photocathode thus produces a photovoltage above the theoretical potential for the complete water‐splitting (1.229 V) and is indeed able to produce hydrogen in a one‐photon‐per‐electron light‐driven water splitting setup with MnOx as the anode at a rate of 6.4 mmol h?1 gPDTB?1.  相似文献

A newly designed water‐stable NH2‐MIL‐88B(Fe2Ni)‐metal–organic framework (MOF), in situ grown on the surface of a highly conducting 3D macroporous nickel foam (NF), termed NFN‐MOF/NF, is demonstrated to be a highly efficient bifunctional electrocatalyst for overall water splitting with ultrastability at high current densities. The NFN‐MOF/NF achieves ultralow overpotentials of 240 and 87 mV at current density of 10 mA cm?2 for the oxygen evolution reaction and hydrogen evolution reaction, respectively, in 1 m KOH. For the overall water splitting, it requires only an ultralow cell voltage of 1.56 V to reach the current density of 10 mA cm?2, outperforming the pairing of Pt/C on NF as the cathode and IrO2 on NF as the anode at the same catalyst loading. The stability of the NFN‐MOF/NF catalyst is also outstanding, exhibiting only a minor chronopotentiometric decay of 7.8% at 500 mA cm?2 after 30 h. The success of the present NFN‐MOF/NF catalyst is attributed to the abundant active centers, the bimetallic clusters {Fe2Ni(µ3‐O)(COO)6(H2O)3}, in the MOF, the positive coupling effect between Ni and Fe metal ions in the MOF, and synergistic effect between the MOF and NF.  相似文献

To improve the utilization efficiency of precious metals, metal‐supported materials provide a direction for fabricating highly active and stable heterogeneous catalysts. Herein, carbon cloth (CC)‐supported Earth‐abundant CoS2 nanosheet arrays (CoS2/CC) are presented as ideal substrates for ultrafine Pt deposition (Pt‐CoS2/CC) to achieve remarkable performance toward the hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions (HER/OER) in alkaline solutions. Notably, the Pt‐CoS2/CC hybrid delivers an overpotential of 24 mV at 10 mA cm?2 and a mass activity of 3.89 A Ptmg?1, which is 4.7 times higher than that of commercial Pt/C, at an overpotential of 130 mV for catalyzing the HER. An alkali‐electrolyzer using Pt‐CoS2/CC as a bifunctional electrode enables a water‐splitting current density of 10 mA cm?2 at a low voltage of 1.55 V and can sustain for more than 20 h, which is superior to that of the state‐of‐the‐art Pt/C+RuO2 catalyst. Further experimental and theoretical simulation studies demonstrate that strong electronic interaction between Pt and CoS2 synergistically optimize hydrogen adsorption/desorption behaviors and facilitate the in situ generation of OER active species, enhancing the overall water‐splitting performance. This work highlights the regulation of interfacial and electronic synergy in pursuit of highly efficient and durable supported catalysts for hydrogen and oxygen electrocatalytic applications.  相似文献

Photocatalysis is the most promising method for achieving artificial photosynthesis, but a bottleneck is encountered in finding materials that could efficiently promote the water splitting reaction. The nontoxicity, low cost, and versatility of photocatalysts make them especially attractive for this application. This study demonstrates that small amounts of α‐Fe2O3 nanosheets can actively promote exfoliation of g‐C3N4, producing 2D hybrid that exhibits tight interfaces and an all‐solid‐state Z‐scheme junction. These nanostructured hybrids present a high H2 evolution rate >3 × 104 µmol g‐1 h‐1 and external quantum efficiency of 44.35% at λ = 420 nm, the highest value so far reported among the family of g‐C3N4 photocatalysts. Besides effectively suppressing the recombination of electron–hole pairs, this Z‐scheme junction also exhibits activity toward overall water splitting without any sacrificial donor. The proposed synthetic route for controlled production of 2D g‐C3N4‐based structures provides a scalable alternative toward the development of highly efficient and active photocatalysts.  相似文献

Construction of well‐defined metal–organic framework precursor is vital to derive highly efficient transition metal–carbon‐based electrocatalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in water splitting. Herein, a novel strategy involving an in situ transformation of ultrathin cobalt layered double hydroxide into 2D cobalt zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF‐67) nanosheets grafted with 3D ZIF‐67 polyhedra supported on the surface of carbon cloth (2D/3D ZIF‐67@CC) precursor is proposed. After a low‐temperature pyrolysis, this precursor can be further converted into hybrid composites composed of ultrafine cobalt nanoparticles embedded within 2D N‐doped carbon nanosheets and 3D N‐doped hollow carbon polyhedra (Co@N‐CS/N‐HCP@CC). Experimental and density functional theory calculations results indicate that such composites have the advantages of a large number of accessible active sites, accelerated charge/mass transfer ability, the synergistic effect of components as well as an optimal water adsorption energy change. As a result, the obtained Co@N‐CS/N‐HCP@CC catalyst requires overpotentials of only 66 and 248 mV to reach a current density of 10 mA cm?2 for HER and OER in 1.0 m KOH, respectively. Remarkably, it enables an alkali‐electrolyzer with a current density of 10 mA cm?2 at a low cell voltage of 1.545 V, superior to that of the IrO2@CC||Pt/C@CC couple (1.592 V).  相似文献

Efficient and selective dehydrogenation of hydrazine borane (HB), a novel hydrogen storage material with very high hydrogen content (HB, 15.4 wt%), is a key challenge for a fuel‐cell‐based hydrogen economy. However, even using the noble metal catalysts for HB decomposition, the activities are still far from satisfying, to say nothing of non‐noble‐metal‐containing catalysts. In response, as a proof‐of‐concept experiment, herein, noble‐metal‐free NiFe–CeOx nanoparticles are successfully immobilized on an MIL‐101 support without surfactant by a simple liquid impregnation method. Unexpectedly, the resultant Ni0.5Fe0.5–CeOx/MIL‐101 catalyst shows good performance, including 100% H2 selectivity, 100% conversion, and record catalytic activity (351.3 h?1) for hydrogen generation at mild temperature, which is even better than most of the noble metal heterogeneous catalysts and might be attributed to the good dispersion and uniform particle size of the Ni0.5Fe0.5–CeOx nanoparticles due to steric restrictions effect of the MIL‐101 support. Additionally, extending MIL‐101 to some other important kinds of metal–organic framework (MOF) structures, the resultant NiFe–CeOx/MOF catalysts all show good catalytic activity toward HB decomposition, showing the universality of the MOF supported NiFe–CeOx catalysts.  相似文献

A homologous Ni–Co based nanowire system, consisting of both nickel cobalt oxide and nickel cobalt sulfide nanowires, is developed for efficient, complementary water splitting. The spinel‐type nickel cobalt oxide (NiCo2O4) nanowires are hydrothermally synthesized and can serve as an excellent oxygen evolution reaction catalyst. Subsequent sulfurization of the NiCo2O4 nanowires leads to the formation of pyrite‐type nickel cobalt sulfide (Ni0.33Co0.67S2) nanowires. Due to the 1D nanowire morphology and enhanced charge transport capability, the Ni0.33Co0.67S2 nanowires function as an efficient, stable, and robust nonnoble metal electrocatalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), substantially exceeding CoS2 or NiS2 nanostructures synthesized under similar methods. The Ni0.33Co0.67S2 nanowires exhibit low onset potential of ?65, ?39, and ?50 mV versus reversible hydrogen electrode, Tafel slopes of 44, 68, and 118 mV dec?1 at acidic, neutral, and basic conditions, respectively, and excellent stability, comparable to the best reported non‐noble metal‐based HER catalysts. Furthermore, the homologous Ni0.33Co0.67S2 nanowires and NiCo2O4 nanowires are assembled into an all‐nanowire based water splitting electrolyzer with a current density of 5 mA cm?2 at a voltage as 1.65 V, thus suggesting a unique homologous, earth abundant material system for water splitting.  相似文献

The oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is a bottleneck process for water splitting and finding highly efficient, durable, low‐cost, and earth‐abundant electrocatalysts is still a major challenge. Here a sulfur‐treated Fe‐based metal–organic‐framework is reported as a promising electrocatalyst for the OER, which shows a low overpotential of 218 mV at the current density of 10 mA cm?2 and exhibits a very low Tafel slope of 36.2 mV dec?1 at room temperature. It can work on high current densities of 500 and 1000 mA cm?2 at low overpotentials of 298 and 330 mV, respectively, by keeping 97% of its initial activity after 100 h. Notably, it can achieve 1000 mA cm?2 at 296 mV with a good stability at 50 °C, fully fitting the requirements for large‐scale industrial water electrolysis. The high catalytic performance can be attributed to the thermocatalytic processes of H+ capture by –SO3 groups from *OH or *OOH species, which cascades to the electrocatalytic pathway and then significantly reduces the OER overpotentials.  相似文献

Developing efficient, durable, and earth‐abundant electrocatalysts for both hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions is important for realizing large‐scale water splitting. The authors report that FeB2 nanoparticles, prepared by a facile chemical reduction of Fe2+ using LiBH4 in an organic solvent, are a superb bifunctional electrocatalyst for overall water splitting. The FeB2 electrode delivers a current density of 10 mA cm?2 at overpotentials of 61 mV for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and 296 mV for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in alkaline electrolyte with Tafel slopes of 87.5 and 52.4 mV dec?1, respectively. The electrode can sustain the HER at an overpotential of 100 mV for 24 h and OER for 1000 cyclic voltammetry cycles with negligible degradation. Density function theory calculations demonstrate that the boron‐rich surface possesses appropriate binding energy for chemisorption and desorption of hydrogen‐containing intermediates, thus favoring the HER process. The excellent OER activity of FeB2 is ascribed to the formation of a FeOOH/FeB2 heterojunction during water oxidation. An alkaline electrolyzer is constructed using two identical FeB2‐NF electrodes as both anode and cathode, which can achieve a current density of 10 mA cm?2 at 1.57 V for overall water splitting with a faradaic efficiency of nearly 100%, rivalling the integrated state‐of‐the‐art Pt/C and RuO2/C.  相似文献

The development of innovative technologies for solar energy conversion and storage is important for solving the global warming problem and for establishing a sustainable society. The photocatalytic water‐splitting reaction using semiconductor powders has been intensively studied as a promising technology for direct and simple solar energy conversion. However, the evolution of H2 and O2 gases in a stoichiometric ratio (H2/O2 = 2) is very difficult owing to various issues, such as an unfavorable backward reaction and mismatched band potentials. Two important findings have widened the variety of photocatalysts available for stoichiometric water‐splitting, viz. the carbonate anion effect and the Z‐scheme photocatalytic reaction using a redox mediator. The bicarbonate anion has been found to act as a redox catalyst via preferential peroxide formation and subsequent decomposition to O2. As the Z‐scheme reaction using a redox mediator mitigates band potential mismatches, it is widely applicable for various visible‐light‐active photocatalysts. This review describes the development of photocatalytic water‐splitting for solar hydrogen production using the carbonate anion effect and the Z‐scheme reaction. Moreover, recent developments in photocatalysis–electrolysis hybrid systems, an advanced Z‐scheme reaction concept, are also reviewed for practical and economical hydrogen production.  相似文献

It is urgently required to develop highly efficient and stable bifunctional non‐noble metal electrocatalysts for both the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) for water splitting. In this study, a facile electrospinning followed by a post‐carbonization treatment to synthesize nitrogen‐doped carbon nanofibers (NCNFs) integrated with Ni and Mo2C nanoparticles (Ni/Mo2C‐NCNFs) as water splitting electrocatalysts is developed. Owing to the strong hydrogen binding energy on Mo2C and high electrical conductivity of Ni, synergetic effect between Ni and Mo2C nanoparticles significantly promote both HER and OER activities. The optimized hybrid (Ni/Mo2C(1:2)‐NCNFs) delivers low overpotentials of 143 mV for HER and 288 mV for OER at a current density of 10 mA cm?2. An alkaline electrolyzer with Ni/Mo2C(1:2)‐NCNFs as catalysts for both anode and cathode exhibits a current density of 10 mA cm?2 at a voltage of 1.64 V, which is only 0.07 V larger than the benchmark of Pt/C‐RuO2 electrodes. In addition, an outstanding long‐term durability during 100 h testing without obvious degradation is achieved, which is superior to most of the noble‐metal‐free electrocatalysts reported to date. This work provides a simple and effective approach for the preparation of low‐cost and high‐performance bifunctional electrocatalysts for efficient overall water splitting.  相似文献

The development of highly efficient and low‐cost electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is paramount for water splitting associated with the storage of clean and renewable energy. Here, this study reports its findings in the development of a nanostructured perovskite oxide as OER/HER bifunctional electrocatalyst for overall water splitting. Prepared by a facile electrospinning method, SrNb0.1Co0.7Fe0.2O3–δ perovskite nanorods (SNCF‐NRs) display excellent OER and HER activity and stability in an alkaline solution, benefiting from the catalytic nature of perovskites and unique structural features. More importantly, the SNCF‐NR delivers a current density of 10 mA cm?2 at a cell voltage of merely ≈1.68 V while maintaining remarkable durability when used as both anodic and cathodic catalysts in an alkaline water electrolyzer. The performance of this bifunctional perovskite material is among the best ever reported for overall water splitting, offering a cost‐effective alternative to noble metal based electrocatalysts.  相似文献

By employing in situ reduction of metal precursor and metal‐assisted carbon etching process, this study achieves a series of ultrafine transition metal‐based nanoparticles (Ni–Fe, Ni–Mo) embedded in N‐doped carbon, which are found efficient catalysts for electrolytic water splitting. The as‐prepared hybrid materials demonstrate outstanding catalytic activities as non‐noble metal electrodes rendered by the synergistic effect of bimetal elements and N‐dopants, the improved electrical conductivity, and hydrophilism. Ni/Mo2C@N‐doped porous carbon (NiMo‐polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)) and NiFe@N‐doped carbon (NiFe‐PVP) produce low overpotentials of 130 and 297 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm?2 as catalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction and oxygen evolution reaction, respectively. In addition, these binder‐free electrodes show long‐term stability. Overall water splitting is also demonstrated based on the couple of NiMo‐PVP||NiFe‐PVP catalyzer. This represents a simple and effective synthesis method toward a new type of nanometal–carbon hybrid electrodes.  相似文献

All‐solid‐state batteries with an alkali metal anode have the potential to achieve high energy density. However, the onset of dendrite formation limits the maximum plating current density across the solid electrolyte and prevents fast charging. It is shown that the maximum plating current density is related to the interfacial resistance between the solid electrolyte and the metal anode. Due to their high ionic conductivity, low electronic conductivity, and stability against sodium metal, Na‐β″‐alumina ceramics are excellent candidates as electrolytes for room‐temperature all‐solid‐state batteries. Here, it is demonstrated that a heat treatment of Na‐β″‐alumina ceramics in argon atmosphere enables an interfacial resistance <10 Ω cm2 and current densities up to 12 mA cm?2 at room temperature. The current density obtained for Na‐β″‐alumina is ten times higher than that measured on a garnet‐type Li7La3Zr2O12 electrolyte under equivalent conditions. X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy shows that eliminating hydroxyl groups and carbon contaminations at the interface between Na‐β″‐alumina and sodium metal is key to reach such values. By comparing the temperature‐dependent stripping/plating behavior of Na‐β″‐alumina and Li7La3Zr2O12, the role of the alkali metal in governing interface kinetics is discussed. This study provides new insights into dendrite formation and paves the way for fast‐charging all‐solid‐state batteries.  相似文献
