Charge‐transfer (CT) state electroluminescence is investigated in several polymer:fullerene bulk heterojunction solar cells. The ideality factor of the electroluminescence reveals that the CT emission in polymer:fullerene solar cells originates from free‐carrier bimolecular recombination at the donor‐acceptor interface, rather than a charge‐trap‐mediated process. The fingerprint of the presence of nonradiative trap‐assisted recombination, a voltage‐dependent CT electroluminescence quantum efficiency, is only observed for the P3HT:PCBM system, which is explained by a reduction of the competing bimolecular recombination rate. These results are in agreement with measurements of the illumination‐intensity dependence of the open‐circuit voltage.  相似文献

The changes in optical activity that accompany and characterize the coil-helix and helix-coil transitions of agarose in aqueous solutions and gels have been investigated by combined quantitative analysis of data from vacuum ultraviolet circular dichroism (VUCD) and optical rotary dispersion (ORD). VUCD of agarose in the high-temperature coil state shows a single accessible Gaussian band centered at ~183 nm. In the helix state this band is blue-shifted by ~9 nm, and the intensity is increased by a factor of ~2.6. Spectra at intermediate temperatures can be fitted to within experimental error by linear combination of coil and helix spectra, the relative proportions required providing an index of the extent of conformational ordering. ORD spectra throughout the conformational transition have a common form and differ only in absolute magnitude. The temperature course of conformational ordering derived from ORD intensity is in close agreement with the values obtained from VUCD. In both the coil and helix states the accessible VUCD band is positive, while the overall ORD is negative, indicating strong negative CD activity at lower wavelength. The ORD contribution corresponding to the positive VUCD band was calculated by Kronig–Kramers transform, and it was subtracted from the total ORD to give the residual ORD from all other optically active transitions of the molecule. In both the coil and helix states, this residual ORD could be fitted to within experimental error by a single Gaussian CD band at ~149 nm. A negative band at this wavelength has been reported previously for agarose films, but the observed intensity, relative to that of the lower energy positive band, is substantially smaller than the fitted value under hydrated conditions. In both the coil and helix states the total optical activity of agarose, characterized by observed ORD spectra, can be matched to within experimental error by Kronig-Kramers transform of the 149-nm negative band and the smaller positive band at higher wavelength, with no necessary involvement of deeper-lying transitions. The significance of this conclusion for fundamental understanding of carbohydrate optical activity is discussed.  相似文献

An open‐circuit voltage (Voc) of 1.57 V under simulated AM1.5 sunlight in planar MAPbBr3 solar cells with carbon (graphite) electrodes is obtained. The hole‐transport‐material‐free MAPbBr3 solar cells with the normal architecture (FTO/TiO2/MAPbBr3/carbon) show little hysteresis during current–voltage sweep under simulated AM1.5 sunlight. A solar‐to‐electricity power conversion efficiency of 8.70% is achieved with the champion device. Accordingly, it is proposed that the carbon electrodes are effective to extract photogenerated holes in MAPbBr3 solar cells, and the industry‐applicable carbon electrodes will not limit the performance of bromide‐based perovskite solar cells. Based on the analysis of the band alignment, it is found that the voltage (energy) loss across the interface between MAPbBr3 and carbon is very small compared to the offset between the valence band maximum of MAPbBr3 and the work function of graphite. This finding implies either Fermi level pinning or highly doped region inside MAPbBr3 layer exists. The band‐edge electroluminescence spectra of MAPbBr3 from the solar cells further support no back‐transfer pathways of electrons across the MAPbBr3/TiO2 interface.  相似文献

Revival studies of Aeropyrum pernix show that the viability of cells and cell recovery after heat treatment depends on the temperature of treatment. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) is used to analyze the relative thermal stabilities of cellular components of A. pernix and to identify the cellular components responsible for the observed lag phase and reduced maximum growth following a heat treatment. DSC thermograms show 5 visible endothermic transitions with 2 major transitions. DSC analysis of isolated crude ribosomes aids the assignment of the 2 major peaks observed in whole-cell thermograms to denaturation of ribosomal structures. A comparison of partial and immediate full rescan thermograms of A. pernix whole cells indicates that both major peaks represent irreversible thermal transitions. A DNA peak is also identified in the whole-cell thermogram by comparison with the optical data of isolated pure DNA. DNA melting is shown to be irreversible in dilute solution, whereas it is partially reversible in whole cells, owing at least in part, to restricted volume effects. In contrast to mesophilic organisms, hyperthermophilic A. pernix ribosomes are more thermally stable than DNA, but in both organisms, irreversible changes leading to cell death occur owing to ribosomal denaturation.  相似文献

Self-deconvolution and the fourth derivative of ultraviolet absorption spectra have been used to study stacked single-stranded and double-helix structures of different cytosine-containing polynucleotides for the first time. These compounds were studied under different solution conditions (pH and organic solvents) and at low temperatures. The red shift of the lower band (B2u band plus possibly some n-->pi* transition) of the absorption spectra in the cytosine-containing polynucleotides and the appearance of new peaks in the deconvoluted and derivative spectra in the 280-310 nm region are attributed mainly to cytosine-cytosine stacking interactions. In particular, the fourth-derivative peaks at wavelengths higher than 290 nm can be associated to coupling of electronic transitions of cytosine bases. The nature of the electronic transitions producing the absorption bands which are resolved in the aforementioned fourth-derivative peaks is discussed. It is concluded that the resolution-enhancement techniques used in this work, i.e. self-deconvolution and fourth derivative, complement each other and are useful methods to study structural changes of single-stranded and double-stranded polynucleotides allowing, at the same time, more information to be obtained about specific stacking interactions than classical absorption spectrophotometry.  相似文献

A fast, nondestructive, camera‐based method to capture optical bandgap images of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) with micrometer‐scale spatial resolution is developed. This imaging technique utilizes well‐defined and relatively symmetrical band‐to‐band luminescence spectra emitted from perovskite materials, whose spectral peak locations coincide with absorption thresholds and thus represent their optical bandgaps. The technique is employed to capture relative variations in optical bandgaps across various PSCs, and to resolve optical bandgap inhomogeneity within the same device due to material degradation and impurities. Degradation and impurities are found to both cause optical bandgap shifts inside the materials. The results are confirmed with micro‐photoluminescence spectroscopy scans. The excellent agreement between the two techniques opens opportunities for this imaging concept to become a quantified, high spatial resolution, large‐area characterization tool of PSCs. This development continues to strengthen the high value of luminescence imaging for the research and development of this photovoltaic technology.  相似文献

A fundamental analysis of the external quantum efficiency (EQE) of organic tandem solar cells with equal absorbers in both subcells (homo‐tandem solar cells) is presented. Providing direct access to both subcells by introducing a conductive intermediate polymer electrode into the recombination zone, without changing the optical and electric device properties, the three‐terminal device becomes a proxy to the two‐terminal tandem solar cell properties. From the spectrally resolved EQE of the subcells in three‐terminal configuration wavelength and intensity of suitable bias light as well as bias voltage are determined that in turn allow for accurate EQE measurements of the common two‐terminal tandem solar cells. Theoretic considerations allow the prediction of the tandem solar cell's EQE from its subcells' EQEs as well as the prediction of the tandem cell EQE under monochromatic bias light illumination being in excellent agreement with experimental results. All findings discussed herein can be applied to more common hetero‐tandem solar cell architectures likewise.  相似文献

To determine the role of photon energy on charge generation in bulk heterojunction solar cells, the bias voltage dependence of photocurrent for excitation with photon energies below and above the optical band gap is investigated in two structurally related polymer solar cells. Charges generated in (poly[2,6‐(4,4‐bis(2‐ethylhexyl)‐4H‐cyclopenta[2,1‐b;3,4‐b′′]dithiophene)‐alt‐4,7‐(2,1,3‐benzothiadiazole)] (C‐PCPDTBT):[6,6]‐phenyl‐C61‐butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) solar cells via excitation of the low‐energy charge transfer (CT) state, situated below the optical band gap, need more voltage to be extracted than charges generated with excitation above the optical band gap. This indicates a lower effective binding energy of the photogenerated electrons and holes when the excitation is above the optical band gap than when excitation is to the bottom of the CT state. In blends of PCBM with the silicon‐analogue, poly[(4,4‐bis(2‐ethylhexyl)dithieno[3,2‐b:2,3d]silole)‐2,6‐diyl‐alt‐(2,1,3‐benzothiadiazole)‐4,7‐diyl] (Si‐PCPDTBT), there is no effect of the photon energy on the electric field dependence of the dissociation efficiency of the CT state. C‐PCPDTBT and Si‐PCPDTBT have very similar electronic properties, but their blends with PCBM differ in the nanoscale phase separation. The morphology is coarser and more crystalline in Si‐PCPDTBT:PCBM blends. The results demonstrate that the nanomorphological properties of the bulk heterojunction are important for determining the effective binding energy in the generation of free charges at the heterojunction.  相似文献

Polymer:fullerene solar cells are demonstrated with power conversion efficiencies over 7% with blends of PBDTTPD and PC61BM. These devices achieve open‐circuit voltages (Voc) of 0.945 V and internal quantum efficiencies of 88%, making them an ideal candidate for the large bandgap junction in tandem solar cells. Voc’s above 1.0 V are obtained when the polymer is blended with multiadduct fullerenes; however, the photocurrent and fill factor are greatly reduced. In PBDTTPD blends with multiadduct fullerene ICBA, fullerene emission is observed in the photoluminescence and electroluminescence spectra, indicating that excitons are recombining on ICBA. Voltage‐dependent, steady state and time‐resolved photoluminescence measurements indicate that energy transfer occurs from PBDTTPD to ICBA and that back hole transfer from ICBA to PBDTTPD is inefficient. By analyzing the absorption and emission spectra from fullerene and charge transfer excitons, we estimate a driving free energy of –0.14 ± 0.06 eV is required for efficient hole transfer. These results suggest that the driving force for hole transfer may be too small for efficient current generation in polymer:fullerene solar cells with Voc values above 1.0 V and that non‐fullerene acceptor materials with large optical gaps (>1.7 eV) may be required to achieve both near unity internal quantum efficiencies and values of Voc exceeding 1.0 V.  相似文献

In human skin cancers, more than 30 % of all mutations in the p53 gene are transitions at dipyrimidines within the sequence context CpG, i.e. 5'-TCG and 5'-CCG, found at several mutational hotspots. Since CpGs are methylated along the p53 gene, these mutations may be derived from solar UV-induced pyrimidine dimers forming at sequences that contain 5-methylcytosine. In Xorder to define the contribution of 5-methylcytosine to sunlight-induced mutations, we have used mouse fibroblasts containing the CpG-methylated lacI transgene as a mutational target. We sequenced 182 UVC (254 nm UV)-induced mutations and 170 mutations induced by a solar UV simulator, along with 75 mutations in untreated cells. Only a few of the mutations in untreated cells were transitions at dipyrimidines, but more than 95% of the UVC and solar irradiation-induced mutations were targeted to dipyrimidine sites, the majority being transitions. After UVC irradiation, 6% of the base substitutions were at dipyrimidines containing 5-methylcytosine and only 2.2% of all mutations were transitions within this sequence context. However, 24% of the solar light-induced mutations were at dipyrimidines that contain 5-methylcytosine and most of them were transitions. Two sunlight-induced mutational hotspots at methylated CpGs correlated with sequences that form the highest levels of cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers after irradiation with sunlight but not with UVC. The data indicate that dipyrimidines that contain 5-methylcytosine are preferential targets for sunlight-induced mutagenesis in cultured mammalian cells, thus explaining the large proportion of p53 mutations at such sites in skin tumors in vivo.  相似文献

The effect of preliminary illumination of purple membranes by yellow light on the difference spectra of short-lived intermediates has been studied. It has been found that changes of the optical density of two of these intermediates, which have the maxima of the difference spectrum at 412 nm and 650 nm, coincides well with the kinetics of the known reversible transitions of the main band of the purple membrane absorption (560 570), i.e., 13-cis-trans transitions. The changes at 412 nm and 650 nm are proportional to the concentration changes of the all-trans retinal and 13-cis retinal, respectively. It was concluded that the formation of the short-lived 412 and 650 intermediates occurs in different photochemical cycles. The pH is found to affect the formation of the 650 intermediate.  相似文献

Optical spectra have been taken in the Soret band (440-400 nm) under different oxygen partial pressures for hemoglobin (Hb) A0 at pH 7.0, 15 degrees C, 2-3 mM heme, 30 mM inositol hexaphosphate, 0.1 Hepes and 0.1 M NaCl. Application of the matrix method of singular value decomposition (SVD) to the difference spectra for different oxygen pressures shows the presence of at least two distinct optical transitions. From this result one concludes that the optical response to oxygen binding is nonlinear in the Soret band. The degree of nonlinearity has been determined by fitting the data at different wavelengths to the four-step reaction Adair equation with the inclusion of optical parameters that describe the intermediate oxygenated species. It is found that the data are well-represented by two optical parameters at each wavelengths, one which represents the optical change for the addition of the first and second oxygen molecules and the other which corresponds to the change for the addition of the third and fourth oxygen molecules. The ratio of these optical parameters depends only moderately upon wavelength with an average value of 0.8 over the Soret band. Thus, there is an approx. 20% smaller optical response for the first two ligated species than that for the last two ligated species. The overall Adair equilibrium constants are evaluated as follows: beta 1 = 0.081 +/- 0.003 Torr-1, beta 2 = 2.53 x 10(-3) +/- 2.4 x 10(-4) Torr-2, beta 3 = 1.25 x 10(-5) +/- 1.0 x 10(-6) Torr-3, beta 4 = 1.77 x 10(-6) +/- 1.5 x 10(-7) Torr-4.  相似文献

Organic–inorganic hybrid perovskite solar cells based on CH3NH3PbI3 have achieved great success with efficiencies exceeding 20%. However, there are increasing concerns over some reported efficiencies as the cells are susceptible to current–voltage (I–V) hysteresis effects. It is therefore essential that the origins and mechanisms of the I–V hysteresis can clearly be understood to minimize or eradicate these hysteresis effects completely for reliable quantification. Here, a detailed electro‐optical study is presented that indicates the hysteresis originates from lingering processes persisting from sub‐second to tens of seconds. Photocurrent transients, photoluminescence, electroluminescence, quasi‐steady state photoinduced absorption processes, and X‐ray diffraction in the perovskite solar cell configuration have been monitored. The slow processes originate from the structural response of the CH3NH3PbI3 upon E‐field application and/or charge accumulation, possibly involving methylammonium ions rotation/displacement and lattice distortion. The charge accumulation can arise from inefficient charge transfer at the perovskite interfaces, where it plays a pivotal role in the hysteresis. These findings underpin the significance of efficient charge transfer in reducing the hysteresis effects. Further improvements of CH3NH3PbI3‐based perovskite solar cells are possible through careful surface engineering of existing TiO2 or through a judicious choice of alternative interfacial layers.  相似文献

For the first time, the plasmonic gold bipyramids (Au BPs) are introduced to the PbS colloidal quantum dot (CQD) solar cells for improved infrared light harvesting. The localized surface plasmon resonance peaks of Au BPs matches perfectly with the absorption peaks of conventional PbS CQDs. Owing to the geometrical novelty of Au BPs, they exhibit significantly stronger far‐field scattering effect and near‐field enhancement than conventional plasmonic Au nanospheres (NSs). Consequently, device open‐circuit voltage (Voc) and short‐circuit current (Jsc) are simultaneously enhanced, while plasmonic photovoltaic devices based on Au NSs only achieve improved Jsc. The different effects and working mechanisms of these two Au nanoparticles are systematically investigated. Moreover, to realize effective broadband light harvesting, Au BPs and Au NSs are used together to simultaneously enhance the device optical and electrical properties. As a result, a significantly increased power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 9.58% is obtained compared to the PCE of 8.09% for the control devices due to the synergistic effect of the two plasmonic Au nanoparticles. Thus, this work reveals the intriguing plasmonic effect of Au BPs in CQD solar cells and may provide insight into the future plasmonic enhancement for solution‐processed new‐generation solar cells.  相似文献

The reaction of mixed-valence state membrane-bound cytochrome oxidase with oxygen has been studied by difference spectroscopy with reference to the unliganded state and by the low temperature technique of Chance and coworkers. Three intermediates, compound A2 and two compound C-type components denoted C606 and C610, have been resolved in time and wavelength in the alpha region. Their optical properties are defined in the visible range. Compound A2 disappearance and compound C606 formation exhibit first-order kinetics with identical rate constants: 2.4 . 10(-3) s-1 at -94 degrees C. Compound A2 has its alpha band maximum at 590 nm and shares an isosbestic point at 595 nm with the C606 species. The alpha band of this intermediate peaks at 606 nm. Compound C610 is the real end point of the reaction and its alpha band maximum appears at 610 nm. Compound C606 is interpreted as resulting from the transfer of one electron from heme alpha 3 copper to oxygen and compound C610 as expressing a molecular reorganization due to the effect of the temperature. Structural requirements for the location of CuB in the active site are discussed. It is concluded that the three observed compounds are the only intermediates formed in the reaction between oxygen and mixed-valence state membrane-bound cytochrome oxidase.  相似文献

The selectivity of electrodes of solar cells is a critical factor that can limit the overall efficiency. If the selectivity of an electrode is not sufficient both electrons and holes recombine at its surface. In materials with poor transport properties such as in organic solar cells, these surface recombination currents are accompanied by large gradients of the quasi‐Fermi energies as the driving force. Experimental results from current–voltage characteristics, advanced photo‐ and electroluminescence as well as charge extraction of three different photoactive materials are shown and compared to drift‐diffusion simulations. It can be concluded that in cases of electrodes with reduced selectivity the decrease of the open‐circuit voltage can be divided into two distinct contributions, the reduction of the overall steady‐state charge carrier density and the gradients of the quasi‐Fermi energies. The results clearly show that for photoactive layers with poor transport properties, the gradient of the quasi‐Fermi energy in the vicinity of the contact is the main contribution to the loss in open‐circuit voltage. For imbalanced mobilities, this gives rise to the phenomenon that it is more challenging to realize a selective contact for the less mobile charge carrier, i.e., the hole contact in most organic solar cells.  相似文献

One of the factors limiting the performance of organic solar cells (OSCs) is their large energy losses (E loss) in the conversion from photons to electrons, typically believed to be around 0.6 eV and often higher than those of inorganic solar cells. In this work, a novel low band gap polymer PIDTT‐TID with a optical gap of 1.49 eV is synthesized and used as the donor combined with PC71BM in solar cells. These solar cells attain a good power conversion efficiency of 6.7% with a high open‐circuit voltage of 1.0 V, leading to the E loss as low as 0.49 eV. A systematic study indicates that the driving force in this donor and acceptor system is sufficient for charge generation with the low E loss. This work pushes the minimal E loss of OSCs down to 0.49 eV, approaching the values of some inorganic and hybrid solar cells. It indicates the potential for further enhancement of the performance of OSCs by improving their V oc since the E loss can be minimized.  相似文献

CuSbSe2 appears to be a promising absorber material for thin‐film solar cells due to its attractive optical and electrical properties, as well as earth‐abundant, low‐cost, and low‐toxic constituent elements. However, no systematic study on the fundamental properties of CuSbSe2 has been reported, such as defect physics, material, optical, and electrical properties, which are highly relevant for photovoltaic application. First, using density functional theory calculations, CuSbSe2 is shown to have benign defect properties, i.e., free of recombination‐center defects, and flexible defect and carrier concentration which can be tuned through the control of growth condition. Next, systematic material, optical, and electrical characterizations uncover many unexplored fundamental properties of CuSbSe2 including band position, temperature‐dependent band gap energy, Raman spectrum, and so on, thus providing a solid foundation for further photovoltaic research. Finally, a prototype CuSbSe2‐based thin film solar cell is fabricated by a hydrazine solution process. The systematic theoretical and experimental investigation, combined with the preliminary efficiency, confirms the great potential of CuSbSe2 for thin‐film solar cell applications.  相似文献

In this work, we investigate silver (Ag) nanoparticle-related plasmonic effect on light absorption in Si substrate. Ag nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) deposited on top of Si were used to capture and couple incident light into these structures by forward scattering. We demonstrate that we can control nanoparticle size and shape while varying deposition time and annealing parameters. By the increase of the total time of the reaction process, morphology of Ag-NPs evolutes affecting the number and the width of surface plasmon resonance peaks, whereas for changed annealing parameters (temperature and time), the effect is more pronounced on the broadening and the position of peaks. Specific morphology of Ag-NPs can exhibit an interesting enhancement of optical properties which enables plasmon-related application in photovoltaic solar cells.  相似文献

Triple‐junction device architectures represent a promising strategy to highly efficient organic solar cells. Accurate characterization of such devices is challenging, especially with respect to determining the external quantum efficiency (EQE) of the individual subcells. The specific light bias conditions that are commonly used to determine the EQE of a subcell of interest cause an excess of charge generation in the two other subcells. This results in the build‐up of an electric field over the subcell of interest, which enhances current generation and leads to an overestimation of the EQE. A new protocol, involving optical modeling, is developed to correctly measure the EQE of triple‐junction organic solar cells. Apart from correcting for the build‐up electric field, the effect of light intensity is considered with the help of representative single‐junction cells. The short‐circuit current density (JSC) determined from integration of the EQE with the AM1.5G solar spectrum differs by up to 10% between corrected and uncorrected protocols. The results are validated by comparing the EQE experimentally measured to the EQE calculated via optical‐electronic modeling, obtaining an excellent agreement.  相似文献
