The role of Au@SiO2 core-shell nanoparticles on optical properties of perovskite solar cells has been explored using both the theoretical computations and the experiments. A quasi-static model is used to study the surface plasmon resonances (SPRs) of Au@SiO2 core-shell nanospheres. Au@SiO2 core-shell nanoparticles, with varying shell thickness and core radius, were assumed to be embedded in methylammonium lead triiodide (CH3NH3PbI3) perovskite active layer. Enhanced absorption in the active layer is obtained due to the near-field plasmonic effect of the embedded core-shell nanoparticles. Theoretical modelling shows that a shell thickness of 1 nm and core diameter of 20 nm provide absorption enhancement in the orange-red region of the electromagnetic spectrum. Experiments performed using ~20-nm-sized Au@SiO2 core-shell nanoparticles (with a shell thickness of ~1 nm) clearly demonstrate the enhanced absorption and the resulting enhancement in photocurrent due to the plasmonic effects. An efficiency enhancement of over 18 % is obtained for the best plasmonic perovskite solar cell containing Au@SiO2 nanoparticles in Au@SiO2-TiO2 weight ratio of ~1 %. Incident photon-to-current conversion efficiency (IPCE) data also showed enhancement in photocurrent for the plasmonic device. The quasi-static modelling approach provides a good correlation between theory and experiment.  相似文献

For the first time, the plasmonic gold bipyramids (Au BPs) are introduced to the PbS colloidal quantum dot (CQD) solar cells for improved infrared light harvesting. The localized surface plasmon resonance peaks of Au BPs matches perfectly with the absorption peaks of conventional PbS CQDs. Owing to the geometrical novelty of Au BPs, they exhibit significantly stronger far‐field scattering effect and near‐field enhancement than conventional plasmonic Au nanospheres (NSs). Consequently, device open‐circuit voltage (Voc) and short‐circuit current (Jsc) are simultaneously enhanced, while plasmonic photovoltaic devices based on Au NSs only achieve improved Jsc. The different effects and working mechanisms of these two Au nanoparticles are systematically investigated. Moreover, to realize effective broadband light harvesting, Au BPs and Au NSs are used together to simultaneously enhance the device optical and electrical properties. As a result, a significantly increased power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 9.58% is obtained compared to the PCE of 8.09% for the control devices due to the synergistic effect of the two plasmonic Au nanoparticles. Thus, this work reveals the intriguing plasmonic effect of Au BPs in CQD solar cells and may provide insight into the future plasmonic enhancement for solution‐processed new‐generation solar cells.  相似文献

A 3D transparent conducting oxide (3D‐TCO) has been fabricated by growing Sn‐doped indium oxide (ITO) nanowire arrays on glass substrates via a vapor transport method. The 3D TCO charge‐collection properties have been compared to those of conventional two‐dimensional TCO (2D‐TCO) thin films. For use as a photoelectrode in dye‐sensitized solar cells, ITO‐TiO2 core‐shell nanowire arrays were prepared by depositing a 45 nm‐thick mesoporous TiO2 shell layer consisting of ~6 nm anatase nanoparticles using TiCl4 treatments. Dye‐sensitized solar cells fabricated using these ITO‐TiO2 core‐shell nanowire arrays show extremely fast charge collection owing to the shorter electron paths across the 45 nm‐thick TiO2 shell compared to the 2D TCO. Interestingly, the charge‐collection time does not increase with the overall electrode thickness, which is counterintuitive to conventional diffusion models. This result implies that, in principle, maximum light harvesting can be achieved without hindering the charge collection. The proposed new 3D TCO should also be attractive for other photovoltaic applications where the active layer thickness is limited by poor charge collection.  相似文献

Utilization of photons of sub‐bandgap energy, mostly near‐infrared (NIR) photons, is highly desirable for photovoltaic devices. We show that (NaYF4:Yb‐Tm)/(Cu2O) composite films formed by electrodeposition exhibit robust photoactive current generation under NIR light excitation. The composite films consist of homogeneous crystalline particles of the fluoride and Cu2O in sub‐micrometer size. From spectroscopic characterization, it is found that the NaYF4:Yb‐Tm layer in the composite film converts NIR radiation by up‐conversion into visible emission, which is efficiently absorbed by the covering semiconducting Cu2O film, producing photoelectrons. Accordingly, the composite films exhibit highly photoactive current generation by means of a photoelectrochemical process driven by NIR irradiation. The methodology demonstrated here may have certain implications for the utilization of NIR radiation in solar cells, photocatalysts, and infrared photodetectors.  相似文献

Cu2O is one of the most promising light absorbing materials for solar energy conversion. Previous studies with Cu2O for water splitting usually deliver high photocurrent or high photovoltage, but not both. Here, a Cu2O/Ga2O3/TiO2/RuOx photocathode that benefits from a high quality thermally oxidized Cu2O layer and good band alignment of the Ga2O3 buffer layer is reported, yielding a photocurrent of 6 mA cm?2 at 0 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE), an onset potential of 0.9 V versus RHE, and 3.5 mA cm?2 at 0.5 V versus RHE. The quantum efficiency spectrum (incident photon to current efficiency, IPCE) reveals a dramatically improved green/red response and a decreased blue response compared with electrodeposited Cu2O films. Light intensity dependence and photocurrent transient studies enable the identification of the limitations in the performance. Due to the complementary IPCE curves of thermally oxidized and electrodeposited Cu2O photocathodes, a dual photocathode is fabricated to maximize the absorption over the entire range of above band gap radiation. Photocurrents of 7 mA cm?2 at 0 V versus RHE are obtained in the dual photocathodes, with an onset potential of 0.9 V versus RHE and a thermodynamically based energy conversion efficiency of 1.9%.  相似文献

Plasmonic metal nanoparticles are a category of plasmonic materials that can efficiently convert light into heat under illumination, which can be applied in the field of solar steam generation. Here, this study designs a novel type of plasmonic material, which is made by uniformly decorating fine metal nanoparticles into the 3D mesoporous matrix of natural wood (plasmonic wood). The plasmonic wood exhibits high light absorption ability (≈99%) over a broad wavelength range from 200 to 2500 nm due to the plasmonic effect of metal nanoparticles and the waveguide effect of microchannels in the wood matrix. The 3D mesoporous wood with numerous low‐tortuosity microchannels and nanochannels can transport water up from the bottom of the device effectively due to the capillary effect. As a result, the 3D aligned porous architecture can achieve a high solar conversion efficiency of 85% under ten‐sun illumination (10 kW m?2). The plasmonic wood also exhibits superior stability for solar steam generation, without any degradation after being evaluated for 144 h. Its high conversion efficiency and excellent cycling stability demonstrate the potential of newly developed plasmonic wood to solar energy‐based water desalination.  相似文献

Plasmonic nanostructures are capable of driving photocatalysis through absorbing photons in the visible region of the solar spectrum. Unfortunately, the short lifetime of plasmon‐induced hot carriers and sluggish surface chemical reactions significantly limit their photocatalytic efficiencies. Moreover, the thermodynamically favored excitation mechanism of plasmonic photocatalytic reactions is unclear. The mechanism of how the plasmonic catalyst could enhance the performance of chemical reaction and the limitation of localized surface plasmon resonance devices is proposed. In addition, a design is demonstrated through co‐catalyst decorated plasmonic nanoparticles Au/IrOX upon a semiconductor nanowire‐array TiO2 electrode that are able to considerably improve the lifetime of plasmon‐induced charge‐carriers and further facilitate the kinetics of chemical reaction. A thermodynamically favored excitation with improved kinetics of hot carriers is revealed through electrochemical studies and characterization of X‐ray absorption spectrum. This discovery provides an opportunity to efficiently manage hot carriers that are generated from metal nanostructures through surface plasmon effects for photocatalysis applications.  相似文献

In this study, the effect of plasmonic core‐shell structures, consisting of dielectric cores and metallic nanoshells, on energy conversion in dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) is investigated. The structure of the core‐shell particles is controlled to couple with visible light so that the visible component of the solar spectrum is amplified near the core‐shell particles. In core‐shell particle – TiO2 nanoparticle films, the local field intensity and light pathways are increased due to the surface plasmons and light scattering. This, in turn, enlarges the optical cross‐section of dye sensitizers coated onto the mixed films. When 22 vol% of core‐shell particles are added to a 5 μm thick TiO2 film, the energy conversion efficiency of DSSCs increases from 2.7% to 4.0%, in spite of a more than 20% decrease in the amount of dyes adsorbed on the composite films. The correlation between core‐shell particle content and energy conversion efficiency in DSSCs is explained by the balance among near‐field effects, light scattering efficiency, and surface area in the composite films.  相似文献

For the first time, we report remote excitation polarization-dependent surface photochemical reaction by plasmonic waveguide. Remote excitation polarization-dependent surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectra indicate a surface photochemical reaction that p-aminothiophenol is converted to p,p′-dimercaptoazobenzene (DMAB) induced by the plasmonic waveguide. Surface plasmon polaritons generated at the end of a silver nanowire can propagate efficiently along the nanowire, and be coupled by nanoparticles near the nanowire as a nanoantenna. Massive electromagnetic enhancement is generated in the nanogap between the nanowire and the nanoparticles. The remote excitation polarization-dependent SERS spectra can be obtained experimentally in the nanogaps; furthermore, the remote excitation polarization-dependent SERS spectra of DMAB reveal the occurrence of this surface catalytic reaction. Theoretical simulations using finite-difference time-domain methods strongly support our experimental results.  相似文献

Plasmonic nanoparticles with outstanding photothermal conversion efficiency are promising for solar vaporization. However, the high cost and the required intense light excitation of noble metals, hinder their practical application. Herein, an inexpensive 3D plasmonic solar absorber gel that embraces all the desirable optical, thermal, and wetting properties for efficient solar vaporization is reported. The broadband absorption and strong near‐field intertip enhancement of the sparsely dispersed gold nanoflowers contribute to efficient light‐to‐heat conversion, while the macro‐nano thermal insulative silica gel retains and channels the plasmonic heat directly to the water pathways contained within the porous gel. The plasmonic‐based solar absorber gel shows a vaporization efficiency of 85% under solar irradiation of 1 sun intensity (1 kW m?2). Moreover, the porous gel framework exhibits high mechanical stability and antifouling properties, potentially useful for polluted/turbid water evaporation. Complementary water condensation‐induced triboelectricity can be harvested alongside fresh water condensate, granting simultaneous fresh water production and electricity generation functionalities. The facile sol‐gel synthesis at room temperature makes the solar absorber gel highly adaptable for practical large‐scale photothermal applications.  相似文献

Significant enhancement of P3HT (poly(3‐hexylthiophene)):PC61BM ([6,6]‐phenyl C61‐butyric acid methyl ester) photovoltaic devices using different patterns of electrospun Ag/PVP composite nanofibers, including nonwoven, aligned, and crossed patterns, is reported. The composite electrospun nanofibers are prepared using in situ reduction of silver (Ag) nanoparticles in Ag/poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) via a two‐fluid coaxial electrospinning technique. The composition, crystalline orientation, and particle size of Ag are manipulated by controlling the core/shell solution concentration. The smallest diameter of the composite nanofibers leads to the highest orientation of the Ag nanoparticles and results in the largest conductivity due to geometric confinement. Such composite nanofibers exhibit the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect, which provides near field enhancement of electromagnetic field around active layer. Additionally, composite nanofibers with the crossed or nonwoven patterns further enhance high carrier mobility, compared to that of the aligned pattern. It leads to the 18.7% enhancement of the power conversion efficiency of photovoltaic cell compared to the parent device. The results indicate that the high conductivity and SPR effect of the Ag/PVP electrospun nanofibers can significantly improve the photocurrent and PCE, leading to promising organic solar cell applications.  相似文献

Tandem photoelectrochemical water splitting cells utilizing crystalline Si and metal oxide photoabsorbers are promising for low‐cost solar hydrogen production. This study presents a device design and a scalable fabrication scheme for a tandem heterostructure photoanode: p+n black silicon (Si)/SnO2 interface/W‐doped bismuth vanadate (BiVO4)/cobalt phosphate (CoPi) catalyst. The black‐Si not only provides a substantial photovoltage of 550 mV, but it also serves as a conductive scaffold to decrease charge transport pathlengths within the W‐doped BiVO4 shell. When coupled with cobalt phosphide (CoP) nanoparticles as hydrogen evolution catalysts, the device demonstrates spontaneous water splitting without employing any precious metals, achieving an average solar‐to‐hydrogen efficiency of 0.45% over the course of an hour at pH 7. This fabrication scheme offers the modularity to optimize individual cell components, e.g., Si nanowire dimensions and metal oxide film thickness, involving steps that are compatible with fabricating monolithic devices. This design is general in nature and can be readily adapted to novel, higher performance semiconducting materials beyond BiVO4 as they become available, which will accelerate the process of device realization.  相似文献

Copper(I) oxide (Cu2O) is an attractive photocatalyst because of its abundance, low toxicity, environmental compatibility, and narrow direct band gap, which allows efficient light harvesting. However, Cu2O exhibits poor photocatalytic performance and photostability because of its short electron diffusion length and low hole mobility. Here, it is demonstrated that nanodiamond (ND) can greatly improve the photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) of the p‐type photocatalyst Cu2O nanocrystals by nanocomposition. Compared with pure Cu2O nanocrystals, this composite shows a tremendous improvement in HER performance and photostability. HER rates of 100.0 mg NDs‐Cu2O nanocrystals are 1597 and 824 under the simulated solar light irradiation (AM 1.5, 100 mW cm?2) and visible light irradiation (420–760 nm, 77.5 mW cm?2), respectively. The solar‐to‐hydrogen conversion efficiency of this composite is 0.85%, which is nearly ten times higher than that of pure Cu2O. The quantum efficiency of the composite is high, with values of 0.17% at and 0.23% at . The broad spectral response of ND provides numerous carriers for the subsequent reactions. The electron‐donating ability of ND and suitable band structures of the two components promote electron injection from ND to Cu2O. These results suggest the broad applicability of ND to ameliorate the photoelectric properties of semiconductors.  相似文献

N‐type metal oxides such as hematite (α‐Fe2O3) and bismuth vanadate (BiVO4) are promising candidate materials for efficient photoelectrochemical water splitting; however, their short minority carrier diffusion length and restricted carrier lifetime result in undesired rapid charge recombination. Herein, a 2D arranged globular Au nanosphere (NS) monolayer array with a highly ordered hexagonal hole pattern (hereafter, Au array) is introduced onto the surface of photoanodes comprised of metal oxide films via a facile drying and transfer‐printing process. Through plasmon‐induced resonance energy transfer, the Au array provides a strong electromagnetic field in the near‐surface area of the metal oxide film. The near‐field coupling interaction and amplification of the electromagnetic field suppress the charge recombination with long‐lived photogenerated holes and simultaneously enhance the light harvesting and charge transfer efficiencies. Consequently, an over 3.3‐fold higher photocurrent density at 1.23 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) is achieved for the Au array/α‐Fe2O3. Furthermore, the high versatility of this transfer printing of Au arrays is demonstrated by introducing it on the molybdenum‐doped BiVO4 film, resulting in 1.5‐fold higher photocurrent density at 1.23 V versus RHE. The tailored metal film design can provide a potential strategy for the versatile application in various light‐mediated energy conversion and optoelectronic devices.  相似文献

Significantly increased power conversion efficiency (PCE) of polymer solar cells (PSCs) is achieved by applying a plasmonic enhanced light trapping strategy to a low bandgap conjugated polymer, poly(indacenodithiophene‐ co‐phananthrene‐quinoxaline) (PIDT‐PhanQ) and [6,6]‐phenyl‐C71‐butyric acid methyl ester (PC71BM) based bulk‐heterojunction (BHJ) system. By doping both the rear and front charge‐selecting interfacial layers of the device with different sizes of Au NPs, the PCE of the devices is improved from 6.65% to 7.50% (13% enhancement). A detailed study of processing, characterization, microscopy, and device fabrication is conducted to understand the underlying mechanism for the enhanced device performance. The success of this work provides a simple and generally applicable approach to enhance light harnessing of low bandgap polymers in PSCs.  相似文献

Efficient sunlight‐driven water splitting devices can be achieved by pairing two absorbers of different optimized bandgaps in an optical tandem design. With tunable absorption ranges and cell voltages, organic–inorganic metal halide perovskite solar cells provide new opportunities for tailoring top absorbers for such devices. In this work, semitransparent perovskite solar cells are developed for use as the top cell in tandem with a smaller bandgap photocathode to enable panchromatic harvesting of the solar spectrum. A new CuInxGa1‐xSe2 multilayer photocathode is designed, exhibiting excellent performance for photoelectrochemical water reduction and representing a near‐ideal bottom absorber. When pairing it below a semitransparent CH3NH3PbBr3‐based solar cell, a solar‐to‐hydrogen efficiency exceeding 6% is achieved, the highest value yet reported for a photovoltaic–photoelectrochemical device utilizing a single‐junction solar cell as the bias source under one sun illumination. The analysis shows that the efficiency can reach more than 20% through further optimization of the perovskite top absorber.  相似文献

An efficient way to combat the energy crisis and the greenhouse gas effect of fossil fuels is the production of hydrogen fuel from solar‐driven water splitting reaction. Here, this study presents a p‐type ZrO2 nanoplate‐decorated ZrO2 nanowire photocathode with a high photoconversion efficiency that makes it potentially viable for commercial solar H2 production. The composition of oxygen vacancy defects, low charge carrier transport property, and high specific surface area of these as‐grown hierarchical nanowires are further improved by an hydrofluoric acid (HF) treatment, which causes partial delamination and produces a thin amorphous ZrO2 layer on the surface of the as‐grown nanostructured film. The presence of different types of oxygen vacancies (neutral, singly charged, and doubly charged defects) and their compositional correlation to the Zrx+ oxidation states (4 > x > 2) are found to affect the charge transfer process, the p‐type conductivity, and the photocatalytic activity of the ZrO2 nanostructured film. The resulting photocathode provides the highest overall photocurrent (?42.3 mA cm?2 at 0 V vs reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE)) among all the photocathodes reported to date, and an outstanding 3.1% half‐cell solar‐to‐hydrogen conversion efficiency with a Faradaic efficiency of 97.8%. Even more remarkable is that the majority of the photocurrent (69%) is produced in the visible light region.  相似文献

Nucleic acid tests have been widely used for diagnosis of diseases by detecting the relevant genetic markers that are usually amplified using polymerase chain reaction (PCR). This work reports the use of a plasmonic device as an efficient and low‐cost PCR thermocycler to facilitate nucleic acid‐based diagnosis. The thermoplasmonic device, consisting of a one‐dimensional metal grating, exploited the strong light absorption of plasmonic resonance modes to heat up PCR reagents using a near‐infrared laser source. The plasmonic device also integrated a thin‐film thermocouple on the metal grating to monitor the sample temperature. The plasmonic thermocycler is capable of performing a PCR amplification cycle in ~2.5 minutes. We successfully demonstrated the multiplex and real‐time PCR amplifications of the antibiotic resistance genes using the genomic DNAs extracted from Acinetobacter baumannii, Klebsiella pneumonia, Escherichia coli and Campylobacter.  相似文献

Surface plasmonic-enhanced light trapping from metal nanoparticles is a promising way of increasing the light absorption in the active silicon layer and, therefore, the photocurrent of the silicon solar cells. In this paper, we applied silver nanoparticles on the rear side of polycrystalline silicon thin film solar cell and systematically studied the dielectric environment effect on the absorption and short-circuit current density (Jsc) of the device. Three different dielectric layers, magnesium fluoride (MgF2, n?=?1.4), tantalum pentoxide (Ta2O5, n?=?2.2), and titanium dioxide (TiO2, n?=?2.6), were investigated. Experimentally, we found that higher refractive index dielectric coatings results in a redshift of the main plasmonic extinction peak and higher modes were excited within the spectral region that is of interest in our thin film solar cell application. The optical characterization shows that nanoparticles coated with highest refractive index dielectric TiO2 provides highest absorption enhancement 75.6 %; however, from the external quantum efficiency characterization, highest short-circuit current density Jsc enhancement of 45.8 % was achieved by coating the nanoparticles with lower refractive index MgF2. We also further optimize the thickness of MgF2 and a final 50.2 % Jsc enhancement was achieved with a 210-nm MgF2 coating and a back reflector.  相似文献

As a wide‐bandgap semiconductor, titanium dioxide (TiO2) with a porous structure has proven useful in dye‐sensitized solar cells, but its application in low‐cost, high‐efficiency inorganic photovoltaic devices based on materials such as Cu(InGa)Se2 or Cu2ZnSnS4 is limited. Here, a thin film made from solution‐processed TiO2 nanocrystals is demonstrated as an alternative to intrinsic zinc oxide (i‐ZnO) as the window layer of CuInSxSe1?x solar cells. The as‐synthesized, well‐dispersed, 6 nm TiO2 nanocrystals are assembled into thin films with controllable thicknesses of 40, 80, and 160 nm. The TiO2 nanocrystal films with thicknesses of 40 and 80 nm exhibit conversion efficiencies (6.2% and 6.33%, respectively) that are comparable to that of a layer of the typical sputtered i‐ZnO (6.42%). The conversion efficiency of the devices with a TiO2 thickness of 160 nm decreases to 2.2%, owing to the large series resistance. A 9‐hour reaction time leads to aggregated nanoparticles with a much‐lower efficiency (2%) than that of the well‐dispersed TiO2 nanoparticles prepared using a 15‐hour reaction time. Under optimized conditions, the champion TiO2 nanocrystal‐film‐based device shows even higher efficiency (9.2%) than a control device employing a typical i‐ZnO film (8.6%).  相似文献
