The role of ethylene (through application of ethephon) in the regulation of nickel (Ni) stress tolerance was investigated in this study. Ethephon at concentration of 200 µl l?1 was applied to mustard (Brassica juncea) plants grown without and with 200 mg kg?1 soil Ni to study the increased growth traits, biochemical attributes, photosynthetic efficiency, nutrients content, activities of antioxidants such as superoxide dismutase, ascorbate peroxidase, glutathione reductase, and glutathione peroxidase, glyoxalase systems and enhanced the proline metabolism. In the absence of ethephon, Ni increased oxidative stress with a concomitant decrease in photosynthesis, growth and nutrients content. However, application of ethephon positively increased growth traits, photosynthetic parameters, nutrients content and also elevated the generation of antioxidants enzymes and glyoxalase systems, proline production to combat oxidative stress. Plants water relations and cellular homeostasis were maintained through increased photosynthetic efficiency and proline production. This signifies the role of ethylene in mediating Ni tolerance via regulating proline production and photosynthetic capacity. Ethephon can be used as an exogenous supplement on plants to confer Ni tolerance. The results can be exploited to develop tolerance in plants via gene editing technology encoding enzymes responsible for proline synthesis, antioxidant defence, glyoxalase systems and photosynthetic effectiveness.

Melatonin mediates many physiological processes in animals and plants. To examine the potential roles of melatonin in salinity tolerance, we investigated the effects of exogenous melatonin on growth and antioxidant system in cucumber under 200 mM NaCl stress conditions. The results showed that the melatonin-treated plants significantly increased growth mass and antioxidant protection. Under salinity stress, the addition of melatonin effectively alleviated the decrease in the net photosynthetic rate, the maximum quantum efficiency of PSII, and the total chlorophyll content. Our data also suggested that melatonin and the resistance of plants exhibited a concentration effect. The application of 50–150 μM melatonin significantly improved the photosynthetic capacity. Additionally, the pretreatment with melatonin reduced the oxidative damage under salinity stress by scavenging directly H2O2 or enhancing activity of antioxidant enzymes (including superoxide dismutase, peroxidase, catalase, ascorbate peroxidase) and concentrations of antioxidants (ascorbic acid and glutathione). Therefore, the melatonin-treated plants could effectively enhance their salinity tolerance.  相似文献

The present study evaluates the effects of severe drought stress on the content of phenolic compounds in olive leaves, namely hydroxytyrosol, tyrosol, p-hydroxybenzoic acid, catechin, luteolin 7-O-rutinoside, luteolin 7-O-glucoside, apigenin 7-O-glucoside, quercetin, apigenin, pinoresinol, oleuropein and verbascoside in greenhouse-grown plantlets. The results showed that oleuropein, verbascoside, luteolin 7-O-glucoside and apigenin 7-O-glucoside were the most important phenolic compound of stressed olive plants and can represent up to 84% of the total amount of the identified phenolic compounds. Application of drought stress caused a significant increase in the level of oleuropein (87%), verbascoside (78%), luteolin 7-O-glucoside (72%) and apigenin 7-O-glucoside (85%), when compared to the control. The elevated values of these phenolic compounds can help controlling the water status of olive plants and avoiding serious oxidative damage induced by water deficit stress. To our knowledge, this is the first report to show the boost in the concentrations of verbascoside, luteolin 7-O-glucoside and apigenin 7-O-glucoside in the leaves of olive trees after water deficit stress.  相似文献

The main objective of the research is to assess the role of foliar application of silicon (Si) for enhancing the survival ability of wheat under drought stress through improving its morphology, physicochemical and antioxidants activities. Treatments were five doses of Si at the rate of 2, 4, 6 and 8 mM and a control. After completion of seeds germination, pots were divided into four distinct groups at various field capacity (FC) levels, such as 100% FC (well-irrigated condition), 75% FC (slight water deficit), 50% FC (modest water deficit) and 25% FC (severe water deficit stress condition). Foliar application of Si at the rate of 2, 4, 6 and 8 mM and a control were given after 30 days of sowing at the tillering stage of wheat. Findings of the present investigation indicated that increasing the level of water deficit stress reduced the morphological parameters (such as root and shoot fresh and dry-biomass weight) and physico-biochemical events ((such as chlorophyll contents by estimating SPAD value), total free amino acid (TFAA), total soluble sugar (TSS), total soluble protein (TSP), total proline (TP), CAT (catalase), POD (peroxidase), SOD (superoxide dismutase) and APX (ascorbate peroxidase)) of wheat; while foliar application of Si at 6 mM at tillering stage enhanced the drought tolerance in wheat by increasing morphology and physiochemical characters under all levels of drought stress. Similarly, antioxidants activities in wheat also enhanced by the application of Si at 6 mM under normal as well as all drought stress levels. Therefore, it may be concluded that foliar application of Si at 6 mM at the tillering stage of wheat is an important indication for increasing the drought tolerance by improving the morphology, physico-biochemical and antioxidants activities in plants under deficit water (drought) conditions.  相似文献

Gibberellic acid improves water deficit tolerance in maize plants   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The combination effects of water stress and gibberellic acid (GA3) on physiological attributes and nutritional status of maize (Zea mays L. cv., DK 647 F1) were studied in a pot experiment. Maize plants were grown in the control (well watered WW) and water stress subjected to treated both water stress and two concentrations of gibberellic acid (GA3 25 mg L−1, 50 mg L−1). WS was imposed by maintaining the moisture level equivalent to 50 % pot capacity whereas the WW pots were maintained at full pot capacity. Water stress reduced the total dry weight, chlorophyll concentration, and leaf relative water content (RWC), but it increased proline accumulation and electrolyte leakage in maize plants and appears to affect shoots more than roots. Both concentrations of GA3 (25 and 50 mg L−1) largely enhanced the above physiological parameters to levels similar to control. WS reduced leaf Ca2+ and K+ concentrations, but exogenous application of GA3 increased those nutrient levels similar or close to control. Exogenous application of GA3 improved the water stress tolerance in maize plants by maintaining membrane permeability, enhancing chlorophyll concentration, leaf relative water content (LRWC) and some macro-nutrient concentrations in leaves.

Salt-induced oxidative stress in rosemary plants: Damage or protection?   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Mechanisms of photoprotection and antioxidant protection, including changes in chlorophylls, xanthophyll cycle components and levels of low-molecular-weight chloroplastic antioxidants (lutein, β-carotene and α-tocopherol) were studied together with levels of malondialdehyde, a product of lipid peroxidation, in the response of rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.) plants to salt stress. Plants were exposed to increasing NaCl concentrations (50, 100 and 150 mM) for 6 weeks, and two concentrations of the following chloride salts: KCl, CaCl2, MgCl2 and FeCl3, were used together with 100 mM NaCl to explore the extent to which these salts can alter the mechanisms of photoprotection, antioxidant protection and malondialdehyde accumulation in leaves. Increasing concentrations of NaCl decreased leaf water contents and photosynthetic pigment levels, while the contents of α-tocopherol and malondialdehyde increased, but with completely different kinetics. α-Tocopherol levels increased in a dose-dependent manner as stress progressed, while malondialdehyde levels increased at the highest dose (150 mM NaCl) but only during early phases of stress. Furthermore, although the addition of chloride salts to NaCl-treated plants apparently improved leaf physiological status, in terms of water and chlorophyll contents, plants showed an increased photoprotective demand and increased oxidative stress, particularly in FeCl3-treated plants. It is concluded that (i) rosemary plants can withstand moderate doses of NaCl in the medium (at least 150 mM NaCl for 6 weeks), (ii) oxidative stress may be a mechanism for protecting plants from moderate doses of salt stress rather than causing damage to plants, and (iii) the addition of chloride salts to NaCl-treated plants may dramatically increase the photoprotective demand and oxidative stress of leaves, while plant growth is not negatively affected.  相似文献

The extraction of chamomile flowers using supercritical carbon dioxide was investigated with respect to extraction efficiency and compared with solvent extraction. The stability of matricine, a sensitive constituent of the essential oil of chamomile, in these extracts was studied during storage at different temperatures over 6 months. Matricine was stable at -30 degrees C. A slight decrease (80-90% recovery) occurred at +5 degrees C, whereas complete decomposition of matricine took place within 3-4 months at room temperature and at +30 degrees C, respectively. An in-line inclusion of chamomile constituents in beta-cyclodextrin (beta-CD) during the extraction process was assessed and inclusion rates between 40 and 95% were obtained depending on the amount of beta-CD and the type of chamomile constituent. No further stabilization of matricine in the carbon dioxide extract/beta-CD complexes was achieved. High residual water contents in the complexes even after freeze-drying were identified as accelerating the decomposition. In addition, the extractability of flavonoids, such as apigenin and apigenin-7-glucoside, was determined. Apigenin-7-glucoside, the more hydrophilic substance, was not extractable with pure carbon dioxide and showed a recovery of 11% using methanol modified carbon dioxide (18%, w/w) at 60 degrees C and 380 bar. Extraction conditions in the two-phase region of the binary mixture carbon dioxide-methanol (70 degrees C, 100 bar) led to a drastic change in fluid polarity and hence extractability increased to 92-95%.  相似文献

The effects of water deficit stress on growth, Na+, K+ and osmolyte accumulation in the halophyte species Cakile maritima were investigated. Two Tunisian provenances, Tabarka and Chaffar, belonging to different bioclimatic stages, humid and arid, respectively, were compared. After germination, thirty-day-old seedlings were cultivated for 4 weeks under optimal or limiting water supply, at 100% and 25% of field capacity (FC), respectively. A subset of stressed plants was thereafter rehydrated. The final harvest was carried out after 60 days of treatment. Upon water deficit stress, Chaffar provenance showed significantly lower reduction in biomass production, net CO2 assimilation and stomatal conductance as well as of leaf water content. Leaf malondialdehyde (MDA) content was significantly increased in the two provenances but this effect was more pronounced in Tabarka plants than in Chaffar ones. Several criteria seem to be associated with the relative tolerance of Chaffar to water deficit: a slow growth rate, a greater ability to control photosynthetic gas exchange, a high ability to preferentially allocate photoassimilates to its roots, and a greater capacity for osmotic adjustment ensured by K+ and some compatible solutes such as proline and glycine betaine, but not soluble sugars. The superiority of Chaffar provenance also appeared at the level of its ability to recover after a severe water deficit stress (irrigation at 25% FC only during one month). The data suggest that compatible osmolytes (proline and glycine betaine) accumulated upon water deficit stress play important roles in this halophyte, being involved not only in osmotic adjustment but probably serving also in preservation of the structural and functional integrity at the cellular level during water deficit.  相似文献

In this study, the possibility of enhancing cold stress tolerance of soybean plants (Glycine max L.) by exogenous application of 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) was investigated. ALA was added to the Hoagland solution at various concentrations ranging from 0 to 40 μM for 12 h. After ALA treatment, the plants were subjected to cold stress at 4°C for 48 h. ALA at low concentrations (5-10 μM) provided significant protection against cold stress compared to non-ALA-treated plants, enhancing chlorophyll content (Chl) as well as relative water content (RWC). Increase of thiobarbituric acid reactive species (TBARS) levels was also prevented, whereas exposure to higher ALA concentrations (15-40 μM) brought about a dose dependent increase of these species, reaching a maximum of 117% in plants pre-treated with 40 μM ALA compared to controls. ALA pre-treatment also enhanced catalase (CAT) and heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) activities. These findings indicate that HO-1 acts not only as the rate limiting enzyme in heme catabolism, but also as an antioxidant enzyme. The highest cold tolerance was obtained with 5 μM ALA pre-treatment. Results show that ALA, which is considered as an endogenous plant growth regulator, could be used effectively to protect soybean plants from the damaging effects of cold stress by enhancing the activity of heme proteins, e.g., catalase (CAT) and by promoting heme catabolism leading to the production of the highly antioxidant biliverdin and carbon monoxide, without any adverse effect on the plant growth.  相似文献

Salt stress is one of the most serious abiotic stresses limiting plant growth and development. Calcium as an essential nutrient element and important signaling molecule plays an important role in ameliorating the adverse effect of salinity on plants. This study aimed to investigate the impact of exogenous calcium on improving salt tolerance in Tartary buckwheat cultivars, cv. Xinong9920 (salt-tolerant) and cv. Xinong9909 (salt-sensitive). Four-week-old Tartary buckwheat seedlings under 100 mM NaCl stress were treated with and without exogenous calcium chloride (CaCl2), Ca2+ chelator ethylene glycol tetraacetic acid (EGTA) and Ca2+-channel blocker lanthanum chloride (LaCl3) for 10 days. Then, some important physiological and biochemical indexes were determined. The results showed that salt stress significantly reduced seedling growth, decreased photosynthetic pigments, inhibited antioxidants and antioxidant enzyme activities. However, it increased the reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels in the two Tartary buckwheat cultivars. Exogenous 10 mM CaCl2 application on salt-stressed Tartary buckwheat seedlings obviously mitigated the negative effects of NaCl stress and partially restored seedlings growth. Ca2+-treated salt-stressed seedlings diplayed a suppressed accumulation of ROS, increased the contents of total chlorophyll, soluble protein, proline and antioxidants, and elevated the activities of antioxidant enzymes compared with salt stress alone. On the contrary, the addition of 0.5 mM LaCl3 and 5 mM EGTA on salt-stressed Tartary buckwheat seedlings exhibited the opposite effects to those with CaCl2 treatment. These results indicate that exogenous Ca2+ can enhance salt stress tolerance and Ca2+ supplementation may be an effective practice to cultivate Tartary buckwheat in saline soils.  相似文献

Our experiment was conducted in order to find out effects of paclobutrazol (PBZ; 30 μl l–1) on morphology, photosynthetic process, and stress markers under water surplus and deficit conditions in several wheat genotypes. Study revealed that relative water content (RWC), photosynthetic rate, and maximal quantum yield of PSII (FV/FM) was improved after a PBZ application both under irrigation and water deficit across the genotypes, while the stomatal conductance was reduced. Further, the application of PBZ led to reduced leaf area in wheat genotypes. Moreover, a proline content was higher in the wheat genotypes under water stress as compared to the irrigated plants. The application of PBZ led to downregulation of the proline content under water deficit, while there was no significant change in the content and activity under irrigation with or without the PBZ treatment. These findings indicated that due to the application of PBZ the wheat genotypes might sense a lower stress level (indicated by the proline content) and better drought tolerance (according to RWC and photosynthetic characteristics).  相似文献

Adaptation to salinity of a semi-arid inhabitant plant, henna, is studied. The salt tolerance mechanisms are evaluated in the belief that gas exchange (water vapor and CO2) should play a key role on its adaptation to salt stress because of the strong evaporation conditions and soil water deficit in its natural area of distribution. We grow henna plants hydroponically under controlled climate conditions and expose them to control (0 mM NaCl), and two levels of salinity; medium (75 mM NaCl) and high (150 mM NaCl). Relative growth rate (RGR), biomass production, whole plant and leaf structure and ultrastructure adaptation, gas exchange, chlorophyll fluorescence, nutrients location in leaf tissue and its balance in the plant are studied. RGR and total biomass decreased as NaCl concentration increased in the nutrient solution. At 75 mM NaCl root biomass was not affected by salinity and RGR reached similar values to control plants at the end of the experiment. At this salinity level henna plant responded to salinity decreasing shoot to root ratio, increasing leaf specific mass (LSM) and intrinsic water use efficiency (iWUE), and accumulating high concentrations of Na+ and Cl in leaves and root. At 150 mM NaCl growth was severely reduced but plants reached the reproductive phase. At this salinity level, no further decrease in shoot to root ratio or increase in LSM was observed, but plants increased iWUE, maintaining water status and leaf and root Na+ and Cl concentrations were lower than expected. Moreover, plants at 150 mM NaCl reallocated carbon to the root at the expense of the shoot. The effective PSII quantum yield [Y(II)] and the quantum yield of non-regulated energy dissipation [Y(NO)] were recovered over time of exposure to salinity. Overall, iWUE seems to be determinant in the adaptation of henna plant to high salinity level, when morphological adaptation fails.  相似文献

Plant-emitted ethylene has received considerable attention as a stress hormone and is considered to play a major role at low concentrations in the tolerance of several species to biotic and abiotic stresses. However, airborne ethylene at high concentrations, such as those found in polluted areas (20-100 nL L(-1)) for several days, has received far less attention in studies of plant stress tolerance, though it has been shown to alter photosynthesis and reproductive stages (seed germination, flowering, and fruit ripening) in some species. To assess the potential effects of airborne ethylene on plant stress tolerance in polluted areas, the extent of oxidative stress, photo- and antioxidant protection, and visual leaf area damage were evaluated in ethylene-treated (approximately 100 nL L(-1) in air) and control (without ethylene fumigation) holm oak (Quercus ilex) plants exposed to heat stress or to a combination of heat and drought stress. Control plants displayed tolerance to temperatures as high as 50 degrees C, which might be attributed, at least in part, to enhanced xanthophyll de-epoxidation and 2-fold increases in alpha-tocopherol, and they suffered oxidative stress only when water deficit was superimposed on temperatures above 45 degrees C. By contrast, ethylene-treated plants showed symptoms of oxidative stress at lower temperatures (35 degrees C) than the controls in drought, as indicated by enhanced malondialdehyde levels, lower alpha-tocopherol and ascorbate concentrations, and a shift of the redox state of ascorbate to its oxidized form. In addition, ethylene-treated plants showed higher visual leaf area damage and greater reductions in the maximum efficiency of the PSII photochemistry than controls in response to heat stress or to a combination of heat and drought stress. These results demonstrate for the first time that airborne ethylene at concentrations similar to those found in polluted areas may reduce plant stress tolerance by altering, among other possible mechanisms, antioxidant defenses.  相似文献

The arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) symbiosis enhances plant tolerance to water deficit through the alteration of plant physiology and the expression of plant genes. These changes have been postulated to be caused (among others) by different contents of abscisic acid (ABA) between AM and non-AM plants. However, there are no studies dealing with the effects of exogenous ABA on the expression of stress-related genes and on the physiology of AM plants. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the influence of AM symbiosis and exogenous ABA application on plant development, physiology, and expression of several stress-related genes after both drought and a recovery period. Results show that the application of exogenous ABA had contrasting effects on AM and non-AM plants. Only AM plants fed with exogenous ABA maintained shoot biomass production unaltered by drought stress. The addition of exogenous ABA enhanced considerably the ABA content in shoots of non-AM plants, concomitantly with the expression of the stress marker genes Lsp5cs and Lslea and the gene Lsnced. By contrast, the addition of exogenous ABA decreased the content of ABA in shoots of AM plants and did not produce any further enhancement of the expression of these three genes. AM plants always exhibited higher values of root hydraulic conductivity and reduced transpiration rate under drought stress. From plants subjected to drought, only the AM plants recovered their root hydraulic conductivity completely after the 3 d recovery period. As a whole, the results indicate that AM plants regulate their ABA levels better and faster than non-AM plants, allowing a more adequate balance between leaf transpiration and root water movement during drought and recovery.  相似文献

To elucidate the resistance mechanism of exogenous trehalose on water deficit further, we investigated the effect of exogenous trehalose (50 mM) in wheat callus during water deficit and subsequent recovery. Enhanced levels of endogenous trehalose were detected in calli exposed to water deficit (W) and trehalose (T) medium, moreover, W plus T treatment showed an additive effect. Water deficit elevated the accumulation of ROS (hydrogen peroxide and formation rate of O 2 .? ) and the endogenous MDA (Malonaldehyde), and resulted in the decrease of cell viability and biomass. Exogenous trehalose (TW) could alleviate the damage induced by water deficit, which was involved in the decrease of MDA and the generation of ROS, and resulted in elevating cell viability and biomass. Additionally, water deficit induced activity of antioxidative enzymes (Peroxidase, POD; Catalase, CAT; Glutathione reductase, GR). Content of AsA (Reduced ascorbate) was also increased by water deficit, while the content of GSH (Glutathione) showed the opposite effect. The combined effect of T and W treatment led to a higher activity of enzymatic antioxidants including SOD (Superoxide dismutase) and GR, and elevated the content of nonenzymatic antioxidants including AsA and GSH, but had a negative effect on enzymatic antioxidants including POD and CAT in comparison to the water deficit treatment alone. During recovery, calli treated by TW showed a greater reduction in ROS resulted in enhancing a higher cell viability and biomass. The scavenging mechanism of ROS by exogenous trehalose is mainly dependent on nonenzymatic antioxidants, especially AsA-GSH cycle, rather than enzymatic mechanisms and trehalose itself.  相似文献

Salicylic acid (SA) acts as an endogenous signal molecule responsible for inducing abiotic stress tolerance in plants. In this study, the role of SA in improving drought tolerance in two maize cultivars (Zea mays L.) differing in their tolerance to drought was evaluated. The plants were regularly watered per pot and grown until the grain filling stage (R2) under a rainout shelter. At stage R2, parts of the plants were treated with SA, after which drought stress was applied. Leaf samples were harvested on the 10th and 17th days of the drought. Some antioxidant enzyme activity, such as the superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), glutathione reductase (GR), monodehydroascorbate reductase (MDHAR), dehydroascorbate reductase (DHAR), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and malondialdehyde (MDA) content, was measured during the drought period. Exogenous SA prevented water loss and delayed leaf rolling in comparison with control leaves in both cultivars. As a consequence of drought stress, lipid peroxidation, measured in terms of malondialdehyde content, was prevented by SA. SA pretreatment induced all antioxidant enzyme activities, and to a greater extent than the control leaves, during drought. SA also caused a reduction in the ascorbate (ASC) and glutathione (GSH) content in two maize cultivars. The H2O2 level was higher in SA pretreated plants than the controls in both cultivars. Pretreatment with SA further enhanced the activities of antioxidant enzymes and the concentrations of non-enzymatic antioxidants in the tolerant cultivar compared with the sensitive cultivar. Results suggested that exogenous SA could help reduce the adverse effects of drought stress and might have a key role in providing tolerance to stress by decreasing water loss and inducing the antioxidant system in plants with leaf rolling, an alternative drought protection mechanism.  相似文献

We investigated the stimulatory and/or inhibitory role of exogenous SA in alleviating the salt stress (250, 500 mM NaCl) in Pennisetum giganteum (Giant Juncao) through coordinated induction of redox homeostasis, ionic flux, and bioactive compounds. Salt stress radically impaired root and shoot (growth, fresh, and dry biomass as well as tolerance indices), leaf relative water content, and leaf chlorophyll a/b ratio of Juncao due to higher Na+ and Cl? accumulation followed by H2O2 generation, lipid peroxidation (MDA contents), and electrolyte leakage. However, the innate defense response of Juncao counteracted salt-induced damages by osmolytes accumulation combined with orchestrating antioxidants and ionic homeostasis mechanisms. Furthermore, the application of SA had an incremental impact on the development and productivity of high-salinity-exposed Juncao plants by increasing root length, plant biomass, tolerance indices, chlorophyll a/b ratio, and protein contents. Furthermore, SA treatment considerably decreased Na+ and Cl? toxicity by orchestrating antioxidant enzymes, ion transport, and secondary metabolism. Notably, the application of SA substantially mitigated the adverse effects of high salinity concentration (500 mM NaCl), owing to the simultaneous upregulation in enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants, nutrient ion flux, alongside chlorogenic acid production. Thus, we concluded that SA enhanced the tolerance capability of Juncao plants in a NaCl concentration-dependent manner. The findings of this study will enable environmentalists and pharmacologists to gain dual farm-level benefits, including animal therapeutics and restoration of salinized soils for arable purposes.

The comparative alterations of short term NaCl stress and recovery on growth, water relations, ionic composition, lipid peroxidation and antioxidants in roots of two rice cultivars differing in salt tolerance were studied. Exposed for 24 h to increasing (50, 100 and 150 mmol l−1) concentrations of NaCl, roots of 12D Oryza sativa L. cv. Lunishree and cv. Begunbitchi decreased in fresh weight, dry weight and relative water content. Increased Na+ and decreased K+ ion were determined at increasing NaCl concentrations. Both peroxide content and lipid peroxidation measured in terms of MDA level increased and the ratio was higher in Begunbitchi compared to Lunishree. Recovered roots showed lower peroxide and MDA content. Ascorbate and glutathione contents increased in the stressed and recovered roots of Lunishree, but decreased in Begunbitchi with increasing NaCl concentrations. Although SOD, CAT and GR activities decreased in the stressed roots, CAT activity also increased in recovered roots of both the cultivars. The POX activity increased in stressed and recovered roots of both Lunishree and Begunbitchi. Higher free radicals scavenging capacity and more efficient protection mechanism of Lunishree against salt stress, as revealed by the lower level of lipid peroxidation and improved plant water status as well as activities of some of the antioxidants, suggest that significant cultivar differences in response to salt stress in rice are closely related to differences in the activities of antioxidants and ion content. Another possible conclusion is that improved tolerance to salt stress may be accomplished by increased capacity of antioxidative system.  相似文献
