Irradiation conditions in which laboratory animals were kept in experimental laboratories of Chernobyl and Kiev after the accident at the Chernobyl A.P.S. are described. The data are presented on the spectral structural and activity of radionuclides in the diet as well as in the organs and tissues of the animals. The radiation loads have been estimated with regard to an external gamma component and the internal one contributed by the incorporated radionuclides. It has been shown that radiation doses received by the animals during their lifetime due to these contributions do not exceed units of cGy.  相似文献

目的:探讨外固定架联合锁定钢板分期治疗C 型pilon 骨折的临床疗效。方法:选取2010 年3 月至2011 年4 月在我院接受治疗的C型pilon 骨折患者17 例。按照分期治疗的原则,先行一期外固定架固定术,待局部软组织恢复后切开复位,再行锁定钢板内固定术进行治疗,术后对患者进行一年的随访,定期检查患者的踝关节功能,并借助影像学资料对临床疗效进行评价。结果:全部患者获得随访,平均愈合时间为(4.1± 1.6)月;平均AOFAS 评分为(83.1± 12.4)分,其中优6 例(35.2 %),良8 例(47.1 %),一般2 例(11.8 %),差1 例(5.9 % ),优良率为82.4 %;术后4 例患者出现出现轻度感染,通过局部换药、抗生素和钉道护理得到控制。结论:采用一期外固定联合锁定钢板内固定术分期治疗C 型pilon 骨折,可以有效地提高治疗效果,值得临床推广。  相似文献

Although some CO(2) released by respiring cells in tree stems diffuses directly to the atmosphere, on a daily basis 15-55% can remain within the tree. High concentrations of CO(2) build up in stems because of barriers to diffusion in the inner bark and xylem. In contrast with atmospheric [CO(2)] of c. 0.04%, the [CO(2)] in tree stems is often between 3 and 10%, and sometimes exceeds 20%. The [CO(2)] in stems varies diurnally and seasonally. Some respired CO(2) remaining in the stem dissolves in xylem sap and is transported toward the leaves. A portion can be fixed by photosynthetic cells in woody tissues, and a portion diffuses out of the stem into the atmosphere remote from the site of origin. It is now evident that measurements of CO(2) efflux to the atmosphere, which have been commonly used to estimate the rate of woody tissue respiration, do not adequately account for the internal fluxes of CO(2). New approaches to quantify both internal and external fluxes of CO(2) have been developed to estimate the rate of woody tissue respiration. A more complete assessment of internal fluxes of CO(2) in stems will improve our understanding of the carbon balance of trees.  相似文献

This study uses stereological techniques to examine body, internal gill and cardiovascular morphology of two larval amphibians, Pseudophryne bibronii and Crinia georgiana, to evaluate the roles of diffusive and convective gas exchange. Gosner stage 27 specimens were prepared for light microscopy and six parallel sections of equal distance taken through the body as well as a further six through the heart and internal gills. Body, internal gill and heart volume as well as body and internal gill surface areas were determined. The harmonic mean distance across the internal gills was also measured and used to estimate oxygen diffusive conductance, DO?. The species were of similar body size and surface area, but the heart and internal gills were larger in P. bibronii, which may represent precursors for greater growth of the species beyond stage 27. The much larger surface area of the skin compared to the internal gills in both species suggests it is the main site for gas exchange, with the gills supplementing oxygen uptake. The sparse cutaneous capillary network suggests diffusion is the main oxygen transport mechanism across the skin and directly into deeper tissues. A numerical model that simplifies larval shape, and has an internal (axial vessels) and external oxygen source, confirms that diffusion is able to maintain tissue oxygen with limited convective input.  相似文献

Oxygen can fall to low concentrations within plant tissues, either because of environmental factors that decrease the external oxygen concentration or because the movement of oxygen through the plant tissues cannot keep pace with the rate of oxygen consumption. Recent studies document that plants can decrease their oxygen consumption in response to low oxygen concentrations to avoid internal anoxia. This adaptive response involves a restriction of respiration and a concomitant decrease in ATP consumption that results from the inhibition of a wide range of biosynthetic processes. The inhibition of respiration is rapid and occurs at oxygen concentrations well above the K(m)(oxygen) of cytochrome oxidase, indicating that an oxygen-sensing system triggers a coordinated inhibition of ATP formation and consumption. In addition to this, low oxygen concentrations lead to the induction of a plant-specific and energy-conserving pathway of sucrose degradation, which decreases oxygen consumption and improves plant performance. Low oxygen concentrations also lead to long-term morphological adaptations, which allow respiration per volume tissue to be decreased and oxygen entry to be increased. Recently, advances have been made in elucidating possible oxygen-sensing systems and regulatory components that are involved in these responses.  相似文献

Growth-induced water potentials may mobilize internal water for growth   总被引:5,自引:2,他引:3  
Abstract. Wphen there is no external source of water, plants can grow by mobilizing internal water from nongrowing tissues. We investigated how this internal water moves by measuring continuously and simultaneously the water potential (ψw) of soybean ( Glycine max L. Merr.) seedlings in the upper, growing stem tissues and the lower, non-growing stem tissues. When external water was available to the roots, the stems grew rapidly and the ψw of the growing tissue was continually below that of the nongrowing tissue and the medium around the roots. This indicated that a growth-induced gradient in ψw favoured water movement from the external source to the growing cells. When the external source was removed, the ψw of the growing tissue remained constant for a time and the ψw of the nongrowing tissue decreased somewhat. Growth took place slowly as water was withdrawn from the nongrowing tissue but ψw gradients continued to favour water transport to the growing cells. On the other hand, if this internal source was removed by excision, growth ceased abruptly. In this case, the cell walls relaxed and the ψw of the growing tissue decreased by about 0.1 MPa instead of remaining constant. The ψw of the detached nongrowing tissues remained constant instead of decreasing. This indicates not only that water mobilization required attached nongrowing or slowly growing tissues but also that mobilization affected wall relaxation. Thus, ψw differences may mobilize internal water, may explain the continued growth of plants and plant parts removed from external sources of water, and may account for discrepancies in measurements of cell wall properties in growing tissues.  相似文献

Carrot cultivars given a mild freezing treatment (–2.5°C for 16 h) showed significant differences in the amounts of external and internal ice formed and in the amounts of electrolytes diffusing from broken tissues after thawing. Dehydrating the carrots in vitro up to 9% loss of fresh weight decreased the formation of external ice in all cultivars but decreased internal ice formation only in the Chantenay and Autumn King cvs; internal ice formation in the Amsterdam Forcing cv. was unaffected by up to a 7% loss of fresh weight. Of the cultivars tested, the Chantenay cv. withstood the freezing treatments best and the Amsterdam Forcing cv. the least with the Autumn King cv. intermediate between the two. There was no indication of cold hardiness by a natural adjustment of the water content of the carrots in the field during the winter in any cultivar.  相似文献

Elastic compression is recommended in prophylaxis and the treatment of venous disorder of the human leg. However, the mechanisms of compression are not completely understood and the response of internal tissues to the external pressure is partially unknown. To address this later issue, a 3D FE model of a human leg is developed. The geometry is derived from 3D CT scans. The FE model is made up of soft tissues and rigid bones. An inverse method is applied to identify the properties of soft tissues which are modelled as hyperelastic, near-incompressible, homogeneous and isotropic materials. The principle is to calibrate the constitutive properties using CT scans carried out with and without the presence of a compression sock. The deformed geometry computed by the calibrated FE model is in agreement with the geometry deduced from the CT scans. The model also provides the internal pressure distribution, which may lead to medical exploitation in the future.  相似文献

Egg laying in Aplysia is characterized by a stereotyped behavioral array which is mediated by several neuroactive peptides. We have sequenced two genes encoding the A and B peptides thought to initiate the egg-laying process, as well as a gene encoding egg-laying hormone (ELH) which directly mediates the behavioral array. The three genes share 90% sequence homology and are representatives of a small multigene family. Each gene encodes a protein precursor in which the active peptides are flanked by internal cleavage sites providing the potential to generate multiple small peptides. Each of the three genes consists of sequences homologous to A or B peptide as well as ELH. Although these genes share significant nucleotide homology, they have diverged such that different member genes express functionally related but nonoverlapping sets of neuroactive peptides in different tissues.  相似文献

How cells and tissues migrate from one location to another is a question of significant biological and medical relevance. Migration is generally thought to be controlled by external hardwired guidance cues, which cells follow by polarizing their internal locomotory machinery in the imposed direction. However, a number of recently discovered ‘self-guidance’ mechanisms have revealed that migrating cells have more control over the path they follow than previously thought. Here, directional information is generated by the migrating cells themselves via a dynamic interplay of cell-intrinsic and -extrinsic regulators. In this review, we discuss how self-guidance can emerge from mechanisms acting at different levels of scale and how these enable cells to rapidly adapt to environmental challenges.  相似文献

At Branch No. 1 of the Russian State Research Center "Biophysics Institute", a registry has been created of workers at the "Mayak" Production Association, the first nuclear complex in Russia. This registry includes 18,830 persons hired at Mayak's nuclear reactors and radiochemical and plutonium production plant between 1948 and 1972. Twenty-five percent of these workers are women. As of December 31, 1994, the vital status is known for approximately 90% of the cohort members. A total of 5,118 persons have died. The cause for 97% of total deaths has been ascertained. The cohort members were exposed to both external gamma radiation and internal radiation from incorporated plutonium. The plutonium body burden has been measured in 30% of the cohort members with potential for plutonium exposure. External gamma-ray doses were in the range from tenths of milligrays to about 10 Gy, and plutonium body burdens were up to about 260 kBq. In view of the nature of the Mayak worker cohort, it has the potential to provide reasonably precise, quantitative estimates of the long-term health effects associated with chronic low-dose-rate exposure to external gamma radiation as well as internal radiation from plutonium. However, a number of issues must be addressed before credible risk estimates can be obtained from this cohort. These issues include the development of an appropriate internal comparison group and/or external rates and separating of the effects of internal and external exposures on risk estimates.  相似文献

Internal dispersal, which occurs among local communities within a metacommunity, and external dispersal, which supplies immigrants from outside the metacommunity, can both have a major impact on species diversity. However, few studies have considered the two simultaneously. Here I report preliminary computer-simulation results to suggest that internal and external dispersal can interact to influence species richness. Specifically, the results show that internal dispersal did not affect species richness under frequent external dispersal, whereas it enhanced richness in local communities while decreasing richness in metacommunities under infrequent external dispersal. Conversely, external dispersal influenced species richness in local communities more greatly in the absence of internal dispersal than in its presence, while external dispersal did not affect richness in metacommunities regardless of internal dispersal. Furthermore, internal and external dispersal interactively determined the importance of community assembly history in generating and maintaining variation in local community structure. Overall, these results suggest that the two dispersal types can reciprocally provide the context in which each affects species diversity and therefore that their effects cannot be understood in isolation of the other.Electronic Supplementary Material Supplementary material is available for this article at Tadashi Fukami is the recipient of the ninth Denzaburo Miyadi Award.  相似文献

Studies of mechanical stresses and mechanical feedback at the cell level are reviewed. It is shown that cells and embryonic tissues respond to external mechanical stresses and can generate such stresses themselves. Regular feedback loops between external (passive) and internal (active) mechanical stresses have been established. They are essential for cell survival, determination of the direction of their differentiation, and selforganization of morphogenetic processes. Relevant experimental data are presented, and models of mechanical feedback loops are discussed.  相似文献

Polychaete assemblages associated to the sponge Geodia cydonium were investigated at two sampling sites in the Mediterranean Sea: Porto Cesareo Basin (Apulia) and Marsala Lagoon (Sicily), both characterized by sheltered hydrodynamic conditions. Samples were seasonally performed during 1997, in order to compare the assemblages coming from the two localities studied, considering separately the internal and external tissues of the sponge, and with the aim of evaluating the influence of sponge size on polychaete colonization. The examined sponge is characterized by a peculiar stratification of its tissues: an external thick and hard layer, the cortex, and an internal softer one, the choanosome. Statistical analysis showed that this was the main factor controlling polychaete assemblage, with the internal tissue, less rich and diversified, appearing impoverished with respect to the external layer. A similarity in species composition was observed between sites, even though some differences were evidenced in the abundance of some species, mainly reflecting differences in local environmental conditions. Species richness and density increased with the increasing sponge size. Such a situation is particularly evident at Porto Cesareo, where sponges are covered by an algal layer which is particularly rich on the largest specimens, thus suggesting that most of the species of polychaetes were linked more to the neighbouring environment than to the sponge itself.  相似文献

Electron microscope studies on Tylocephalum metacestodes embedded in the tissues of the oyster, Crassostrea virginica, have revealed that the tegument of the larval tapeworm is comprised of an external and an internal level which are partially separated by a basal lamina and two layers of muscles. The outer tegumentary level is comprised of an anucleate, cytoplasmic syncytium in which are embedded large and small vesicles and mitochondria. Surfacial hooks are also embedded therein. The internal level is comprised of relatively large discrete cells including mitochondria, rough endoplasmic reticulum, and large and small vesicles. These cells are intermittently connected with the external level by cytoplasmic bridges. Arising from the external level are unusual microvilli each of which terminates as a spherical vesicle. The stem of each microvillus is covered by a unit membrane which is continuous with that overlaying the body surface. In addition, each microvillus includes an external layer of medium electron density, a medial layer of intense electron density, and a core of heterogenous, medium electron density. These structures may be intertwined and bundles can be observed at the light microscope level as fibril-like projections from the parasite's body surface. One of their possible functions may be to prevent intimate contact between the encapsulating fibers of host origin and the parasite's body surface. In addition, the contraction and distention of the circular muscles result in microvillar movement which may keep the surrounding host fluids, including those of nutritional importance to the parasite, in a state of flux thus hypothetically permitting more uniform uptake. The abundance of vesicles in the syncytial external level of the tegument appears to be characteristic of the more primitive marine cestodes belonging to the orders Trypanorhyncha and Lecanicephala.  相似文献

Habitat locations, behavioral properties, as well as external and internal structure of poorly explored Mediterranean gastropod Strombus decorus raybaudii were analyzed. The data on the dimensions and weight of the crystalline style are presented. Morphobiochemical adaptations to nutrition are discussed in terms of weights of the main parts of the radular apparatus and hemoglobin content in the radular tissues of the mollusk.  相似文献

Radial water (J(V)) and abscisic acid (ABA) flows (J(ABA)) through maize root seedlings have been investigated under different conditions of nutrient deficiency. Whereas J(V) was reduced under nitrogen deficiency, potassium deficiency stimulated J(V). A substantial increase of J(ABA) was observed in roots kept under potassium deficiency. The observed changes of J(V) might have resulted from changed barrier properties of the endodermis. Nitrogen and potassium deficiency also caused an accumulation of endogenous ABA in root tissues. Under all conditions studied, except under K(+)-deficiency, external ABA (100 nM) caused an increase of J(V). The data of this study were used to analyse the relations between internal and endogenous root ABA, J(V), and J(ABA). The internal ABA of root tissues was positively correlated with J(V) and was highly significant (P <0.001 for internal and P=0.03 for endogenous root ABA) within the range 2-300 pmol g(-1) FW. It was also highly positively correlated to the radial ABA flows. There was also a highly positive correlation between J(V) and J(ABA). The data of this study indicate, for the first time, the relations between internal ABA, water, and ABA flows. Independent of treatment with external ABA, an ABA transport by solvent drag across the endodermis is confirmed.  相似文献
