Based on collections of powdery mildews (Erysiphales) in Taiwan and combined molecular and morphological analyses, camphor tree (Cinnamomum camphora) and orange jasmine (Murraya paniculata) are recognized as new hosts of the anamorph of the powdery mildew Erysiphe quercicola. The anamorphic powdery mildew on C. camphora has been known as Pseudoidium cinnamomi, but its relationship to a teleomorph was unknown. For M. paniculata as substrate of powdery mildew, only an anamorphic Cystotheca species has been named. Morphological investigation of the fungus on this host shows that the specimens from Taiwan belong to another genus because of the lack of fibrosin bodies. Analysis of internal transcribed spacer sequences indicates that the anamorphic powdery mildews on camphor and orange jasmine belong to a clade representing E. quercicola, with the teleomorph found only on oak species (Quercus, Fagaceae), but with its anamorph reported from a broad host range, particularly in the tropics.  相似文献

A new species, Hypocrea atroviridis, is described for the teleomorph of Trichoderma atroviride. Based on sequences of ITS-1, 5.8S, and ITS-2 regions of the rDNA complex and translation-elongation factor (EF-1α), T. atroviride and H. atroviridis form a well-supported clade within Trichoderma sect. Trichoderma. The conserved anamorphic phenotype of T. atroviride, observed for both conidial and ascospore derived cultures, was only found within that clade. In contrast, the teleomorph phenotype of H. atroviridis was morphologically indistinguishable from H. rufa, the teleomorph of T. viride. This Hypocrea phenotype may, therefore, be considered to be plesiomorphic within Trichoderma sect. Trichoderma, suggesting that genes controlling the expression of the teleomorph and anamorph evolve at different rates and that the genes controlling expression of the teleomorph are more conserved than are those controlling the expression of the anamorph.  相似文献

Parsimony analysis of sequences of the internal transcribed spacer region of the nuclear rDNA and partial sequences of the large subunit (LSU) place four anamorphic Chalara species as a monophyletic grouping within the teleomorph genus Ceratocystis. Chalara ovoidea, Ch. thielavioides, Ch. populi, and Ch. elegans (synanamorph: Thielaviopsis basicola) form aleurioconidia typical of the anamorph genus Thielaviopsis, to which the species are transferred. Three of these species (T. ovoidea, T. thielavioides, and T. populi) are morphologically similar to each other but are shown to be distinct by rDNA sequences. The anamorphic genera Chalaropsis and Hughesiella are considered synonyms of Thielaviopsis. Thielaviopsis punctulata, which forms aleurioconidia singly, is shown to be the anamorph of Ce. radicicola. The respective anamorphs for Ce. coerulescens, Ce. fagacearum, and Ce. eucalypti, which lack aleurioconidia, are also transferred to the amended genus Thielaviopsis as T. ungeri, T. quercina, and T. eucalypti. Although Ch. australis and Ch. neocaledoniae do not form aleurioconidia, they are placed in Thielaviopsis based on their endoconidial state and clear affinities to Ceratocystis eucalypti. Three apparently asexual Ambrosiella species belong in the Ce. moniliformis clade based on LSU rDNA sequences, but the cultures available are not suitable for detailed morphological study, and these species are not transferred to Thielaviopsis.  相似文献

A member of the nematophagous anamorph genus Arthrobotrys was isolated from its teleomorph Orbilia blumenaviensis comb. nov. (= Orbilia fici), a species closely related to O. auricolor but deviating in having lanceolate paraphyses. In the presence of nematodes, the anamorph forms three-dimensional adhesive networks. A trimorphism in its conidia was observed which vary in shape and number of septa. In the first isolate, two types of heteropolar conidia were obtained. These differ markedly from the type strain of A. vermicola, which forms mainly homopolar (fusoid) conidia. In a further ascospore isolate of O. blumenaviensis, however, mainly fusoid conidia referable to A. vermicola occurred. Combining morphological and phylogenetic analysis, we conclude that these isolates with differently shaped conidia and/or differences in the ITS rDNA (ca. 2–4%) belong to a single anamorph species, A. vermicola. Both teleomorph and anamorph are illustrated and described.  相似文献

The anamorphic state of a powdery mildew on trident maple (Acer buergerianum, Aceraceae), belonging to Sawadaea, has been observed since 1980 in Tokyo and other areas of Japan. Since the autumn of 2003, this fungus has begun to produce chasmothecia in various areas of Japan, which were consistent with Erysiphe nankinensis (= Uncinula nankinensis), but apparently contradictory to the characteristics of the anamorph. Based on a molecular phylogenetic analysis using DNA separately extracted from the anamorph and teleomorph of the fungus on A. buergerianum, it could be demonstrated that sequences of this fungus are sister to Sawadaea. As the anamorph belongs to Oidium subgen. Octagoidium and because of the phylogenetic position within the Sawadaea clade, the new combination Sawadaea nankinensis is proposed for this species. The genus Sawadaea is emended to comprise species with consistently unbranched appendages.  相似文献

Scopulariopsis brevicaulis, the anamorph of Microascus brevicaulis (Microascaceae, Ascomycota), has been identified in the body contents of the tick Dermacentor variabilis. After topical application of the fungal inoculum, tick mortality was marked. This is the first account describing the internal mycoflora of D. variabilis with a novel technique used to recover potential biological control agents.  相似文献

The long-chain fatty acid compositions of 22 species of Candida were determined, and compared with the fatty acid compositions of 10 species of the genus Pichia that contain coenzyme Q9. The long-chain fatty acid results were also compared with other phenotypic criteria (i.e. assimilation of carbon sources, coenzyme Q type, G + C content and proton magnetic resonance spectra) in order to establish possible anamorph/teleomorph relations. Close correlations were found between known perfect/imperfect states. The results suggest that C. cacaoi and P. farinosa, and C. maltosa and P. etchellsii, also have anamorph/teleomorph relationships.  相似文献

Among many isolates that resulted from four independent surveys of yeasts associated with plants in Brazil, the USA, Portugal and Taiwan, we have characterized eighteen basidiomycetous strains, two of which were conspecific with the type strain of Rhodotorula acheniorum, whereas the remaining sixteen isolates appeared not to correspond to any previously described species. Microsatellite-PCR fingerprinting with primers M13 and (GTG)5 confirmed that the latter strains formed three genetically distinct groups. Each group was considered to represent a distinct species based on nucleotide sequences of the D1/D2 domains of the 26S rRNA gene and the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region. Phylogenetic analyses of sequence data placed the putative novel species in a clade with R. acheniorum and the dimorphic smut fungus Farysia chardoniana. A novel anamorphic genus, Farysizyma, is created to accommodate the three undescribed species, which were named Farysizyma itapuensis, Farysizyma setubalensis and Farysizyma taiwaniana. A new combination, Farysizyma acheniorum, is proposed for R. acheniorum, which may represent the yeast-phase anamorph of Farysia thuemenii.  相似文献

Yarrowia lipolytica is the only known species in the teleomorph (i.e. sexual) genus Yarrowia and has its anamorph (i.e. asexual state) classified in the genus Candida Berkhout as Candida lipolytica. This species can be found readily in nature, has significant industrial value and is important to the food and medical fields. Candida deformans was first considered a variety of C. lipolytica and was later listed as a synonym of this species. More recent studies based on sequence variation in the nuclear rRNA gene sequences suggested C. deformans to be a separate species with no known teleomorph linked to it. In this study we show that C. deformans strains, obtained from South Africa, can mate with strains present in the CBS yeast collection and produce a Yarrowia teleomorph, described here as Yarrowia deformans. Strains of Candida yakushimensis nom. inval., a species also belonging to the Yarrowia phylogenetic clade, were also studied and described as a novel species of Yarrowia.  相似文献

The phylogenetic position of the anamorphic genus Calcarisporiella was investigated. Three isolates of Calcarisporiella, including an authentic strain and a newly obtained isolate, were analyzed phylogenetically using rDNA sequences. The result indicated that Calcarisporiella, which was classified as an ascomycetous anamorph, is a member of Mucoromycotina. It formed an independent clade separated from the other known orders of this subphylum.  相似文献

The teleomorph of Mycopappus quercus causing frosty mildew in Quercus acutissima is described as a new genus and species, Redheadia quercus, in the Sclerotiniaceae. Apothecia sprout from sclerotia on the fallen infected leaves kept for 10 months at 5°C and subsequent incubation at 15°C under diffused room light. Typical zonate lesions and multicellular propagules of M. quercus are produced on Q. acutissima, by mycelial inoculation using an isolate from a single ascospore, confirming the teleomorph–anamorphic connection. No significant differences are observed between cultured colonies of isolates from the ascospore and those from the propagule. Sclerotia and microconidia of the fungus are produced on culture media.  相似文献

Species of Botryosphaeria are among the most serious pathogens that affect mango trees and fruit. Several species occur on mangoes, and these are identified mainly on the morphology of the anamorphs. Common taxa include Dothiorella dominicana, D. mangiferae (= Natrassia mangiferae), D. aromatica and an unidentified species, Dothiorella 'long'. The genus name Dothiorella, however, is acknowledged as a synonym of Diplodia. This study aimed to characterize and name the Botryosphaeria spp. associated with disease symptoms on mangoes. To achieve this isolates representing all four Dothiorella spp. mentioned above were compared with the anamorphs of known Botryosphaeria spp., based on conidial morphology and DNA sequence data. Two genomic regions were analyzed, namely the ITS rDNA and beta-tubulin regions. The morphological and molecular results confirmed that the fungi previously identified from mango as species of Dothiorella belong to Fusicoccum. Dothiorella dominicana isolates were identical to isolates of F. parvum (teleomorph = B. parva). A new epithet, namely F. mangiferum, is proposed for isolates previously treated as D. mangiferae or N. mangiferae. Isolates of D. aromatica were identified as F. aesculi (teleomorph = B. dothidea). A fourth Fusicoccum sp. also was identified as those isolates previously known as Dothiorella 'long'. A key is provided to distinguish these species based on anamorph morphology in culture. This study provides a basis for the identification of Botryosphaeria species from mango, which is important for disease control and to uphold quarantine regulations.  相似文献

A culture was obtained from a spore print of a basidiocarp of Mycogloea nipponica collected in Taiwan. A yeast stage and basidia identical to those of M. nipponica developed in laboratory media. The Taiwanese specimen of M. nipponica and its yeast anamorph were characterised in the present study. Comparative morphological, molecular, and ultrastructural studies indicated that the yeast stage can be assigned to the genus Kurtzmanomyces. The revealed connection between the sexual species Mycogloea nipponica and the asexual genus Kurtzmanomyces demonstrates the importance of anamorphic characteristics in the modern systematics of heterobasidiomycetous fungi. This revised version was published online in August 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

A new species of the anamorphic genus Rhexocercosporidium is described. Isolates of a Rhex-Rhexocercosporidium sp. were obtained from ginseng (Panax quinquefolius) roots with symptoms of rusted root. These isolates were found to be genetically and morphologically distinct from the only described species in this genus, R. carotae. Sequence data from the ribosomal DNA region spanning the internal transcribed spacers 1 and 2 and from a portion of the 3-tubulin gene of the ginseng Rhexocercosporidium were compared to those of R. carotae. Parsimony analyses of sequence data showed that R. carotae and the ginseng isolates belonged to distinct but closely related clades. Conidia of a typical ginseng isolate were significantly shorter and possessed fewer septa than R. carotae but shared rhexolytic secession of conidia with R. carotae. The binomial Rhexocercosporidium panacis is proposed to accommodate isolates of this genus that are associated with the rusted root disease.  相似文献

The phylogenetic relationship of the coelomycete genus Infundibulomyces with cupulate conidiomata was assessed by ribosomal DNA sequences of partial small subunit (SSU) and partial large subunit (LSU) regions using maximum parsimony and Bayesian analysis. The genus has no known teleomorph. A new species, Infundibulomyces oblongisporus, is described from collections on a senescent angiosperm leaf from Thailand based on morphological and phylogenetic evidence. Both Infundibulomyces species form a monophyletic group in the Chaetosphaeriaceae (Chaetosphaeriales, Sordariomycetidae) with Dictyochaeta simplex as a sister clade. Chaetosphaeriaceae with a coelomycete anamorph has not been reported previously.  相似文献

Multigene phylogenies have been instrumental in revising the classification of ascosporic (teleomorph) yeasts in a natural system based on lines of descent. Although many taxonomic changes have already been implemented for teleomorph taxa, this is not yet the case for the large genus Candida and smaller anascosporic (anamorph) genera. In view of the recently introduced requirement that a fungal species or higher taxon be assigned only a single valid name under the new International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants (Melbourne Code), the current species of Candida and other anamorph yeast genera must undergo revision to make genus membership consistent with phylogenetic affinities. A review of existing data and analyses shows that certain Candida species may be assigned to teleomorph genera with high confidence using multigene phylogenies. Candida species that form well-circumscribed phylogenetic clades without any teleomorph member justify the creation of new genera. However, a considerable number of Candida species sit at the end of isolated and often long branches, and hence cannot be assigned to larger species groups. They should be maintained in Candida sensu lato until studied by multigene analyses in datasets with comprehensive taxon sampling. The principle of name stability has to be honoured to the largest extent compatible with a natural classification of Candida species.  相似文献

The holomorph of the new species Hypocrea voglmayrii (Hypocreales, Ascomycota, Fungi) is described by a combined approach, using morphology of the teleomorph, morphology of the anamorph, culture studies and phylogenetic analyses of ITS1 and 2, ech42 and rpb2 gene sequences. Its anamorph Trichoderma voglmayrii is described as a new anamorph species. Unlike most other species of Hypocrea the teleomorph of H. voglmayrii occurs on dry standing trunks and exhibits well defined black ostioles. Although exclusively collected at higher altitudes, this species grows at 35 C in culture. Hypocrea voglmayrii develops pale yellowish to greenish conidia, a yellowish pigment and a coconut-like odor on CMD. Phylogenetically, H. voglmayrii forms a distinct, isolated branch between the section Trichoderma and the H. pachybasioides clade but does not associate with any of these clades in different gene trees.  相似文献
