Characterization of a strong CCA-treated wood degrader,unknown <Emphasis Type="Italic">Crustoderma</Emphasis> species

In this study, basidiomycete isolates that possessed a strong ability to degrade chromated copper arsenate (CCA)-treated wood were characterized. These fungal isolates, which were collected from CCA-treated pine log wastes, showed no recognizable morphological properties on culture media. Nucleotide sequence analysis of the large subunit rDNA of the isolates revealed that they were one species. Based on the high sequence similarity (>95%) and close phylogenetic relationship with several known species of Crustoderma, the fungal isolates characterized in this study were classified as a Crustoderma sp. In a wood degradation test, Crustoderma isolate KUC8611 produced a remarkably higher weight loss in CCA-treated Pinus radiata (68.7%), Pseudotsuga menziesii (39.7%), and Tsuga heterophylla (38.5%) wood than other evaluated basidiomycete species, including Crustoderma flavescens and Crustoderma corneum. In addition, extracellular enzymes for cellulose and protein degradation were detected when the isolates were cultured in chromogenic media, which supports the finding that isolate KUC8611 is a wood degrader. Furthermore, an in vitro test for metal tolerance revealed that isolate KUC8611 showed strong arsenic tolerance, but that it could not tolerate copper. Finally, isolate KUC8611 produced lower amounts of oxalic acid than copper-tolerant fungi such as Fomitopsis palustris and Antrodia vaillantii. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to report the degradation of CCA-treated wood by a Crustoderma species.     

Five new species of Triotemnus (Coleoptera, Curculionidae, Scolytinae) from Morocco and Yemen

Fivenew species of the genus Triotemnus from Morocco and Yemen are described. Triotemnus is a new genus of Scolytinae for the Yemen region. External morphology of the new species and all morphologically related species of the genus were studied. While the new species from Morocco are morphologically similar to the known species from the corresponding region, all three newly described species from Yemen, mainly two of them living in Socotra, are morphologically very different from all other known species of the genus. Geographical distribution and the probability of endemicity are discussed.

通过对西藏夜蛾科标本的研究发现委夜蛾属2新种,墨脱委夜蛾Athetis motuoensis sp.nov.和汉密委夜蛾Athetis hanmiensis sp.nov.。文中提供西藏地区委夜蛾属的分种检索表和新种特征图及新种的详细描述。模式标本保存在东北林业大学标本室。墨脱委夜蛾,新种Athetis motuoensis sp.nov.(图1,3,5,7)本种外部形态上与条委夜蛾相似,仅前翅基部、内横线区、外横线区、外缘区和中横线暗褐色。主要区别于外生殖器上:爪形突宽短;抱器端窄而圆;抱器背延伸发达,超过抱器腹缘,末端较细;抱器内突在距抱握器基部3/4处出发,可达抱握器顶端;阳茎轭片脊部短而宽,中部平滑,下端部宽圆;囊形突较窄,略呈V形;阳茎逐渐弯曲,在末端着生有硬化的齿,龙骨稍硬化且细而长;阳茎端膜基囊中等大小,在角状突带的起始部位着生有5个长而粗大的角状突。正模雄性,西藏墨脱,海拔2100m,2005-08-24~26,黄灏、周达康、唐亮采,玻片编号HHL-1012。副模:5♂♂,3♀♀,其它采集资料同正模,雌性玻片编号HHL-1011。词源:以新种模式产地命名。汉密委夜蛾,新种Athetis hanmiensis sp.nov.(图2,4,6,8)本种外部形态上与A.suffusa(Yoshimoto,1994)相似,仅前翅红褐色明显。主要区别于外生殖器上:爪形突相对大一些;抱器端宽而平直;抱器背延伸发达,末端较细,在抱器腹缘末端伸出;抱器内突在距抱握器基部3/5处出发,可达抱握器顶端;阳茎轭片较大,脊部长而宽,中下端部宽圆;囊形突较窄,呈明显的V形;阳茎逐渐变细,龙骨硬化重且细而长;阳茎端膜基囊中等大小,具有1个小角状突,在角状突带的起始部位着生有6个长而粗大的角状突。正模雄性,西藏汉密,海拔2000m,2005-08-19~23,黄灏、周达康、唐亮采,玻片编号HHL-1017。副模:4♂♂,6♀♀,其它采集资料同正模,雌性玻片编号HHL-1016。词源:以新种模式产地命名。     

Pronophiline butterflies (Satyridae) of the Cordillera de Mérida, Venezuela

The 36 species of the tribe Pronophilini known from the Cordillera de Merida, the main Andean mountain range in Venezuela, are listed, together with three others probably erroneously described or labelled as from the range. The general ecological characteristics of the tribe are described, using the Merida species as examples. These include its restriction to high altitudes, endemism in mountain 'islands', species partitioning up the altitude gradient, mimicry within the tribe, and seasonality. The evolutionary relationships of the 16 endemic species are analyzed. Two new genera, six new species, two new subspecies and one new form are described. Three new synonymies are established, three new combinations made, new status is given to two taxa and the status of one taxon is revised.     

Chorigyne, a new genus of the Cyclanthaceae from Central America

Chorigyne is described as a new genus, characterized by distichous leaves with bifid lamina, free pistillate flowers, four subapical placentas, and fusiform seeds. It is most closely related to Sphaeradenia and Stelestylis. The generic relationships, and the restricted distribution of Chorigyne in Costa Rica and Panama, are discussed. Five species are described as new, viz. C. densiflora, C. pterophylla, C. paucinervis, C. cylindrica , and C. tumescens. Furthermore, two new combinations are made, viz. C. ensiformis and C. pendula. A key to the species is given, each species is described, and the new ones are illustrated.

记述了中国腺水螨科Lebertiidae腺水螨属Lebertia腺水螨亚属Pilolebertia两新种拟刷毛腺水螨Lebertia(Pilole-bertia)pseudociliata sp.nov.和蓖齿毛腺水螨Lebertia( Pilolebertia)pectinata sp.nov.前者体壁具细致刻纹,E1具2毛状表皮突,P-Ⅱ腹毛长以及EpⅣ侧缘弧形等特征将之与其他种明显区分开;后者体壁具细致刻纹和具缘毛的P-Ⅱ腹毛可以将之与其他种类明显区分.文中对其腺毛和眼毛的体位特征做了详细描述.     

A parasitic wasp of the platygastrid family (Platygastroidea, Platygastridae, Sceliotrachelinae) first recorded in the Rovno amber (Eocene of Ukraine)

A new platygastrid species, Platystasius gracilis sp. nov., from an inclusion in Upper Eocene Rovno amber is described. The new species is assigned to the genus Platystasius Nixon, 1937. The morphological characteristics of the new species are described, and comparative analysis of the inclusion and a representative of the Recent fauna are provided.     

Genus Autosticha Meyrick (Lepidoptera: Autostichidae) from Taiwan,China

Fourteen species of the genus Autosticha Meyrick,1886 are recorded from Taiwan,China.The genus Cynicocrates Meyrick,1935 is proposed as a new synonym of Autosticha,and its type species A.tachytoma (Meyrick,1935) comb.nov.is transferred to Autosticha.Autosticha cordiformis sp.nov.is described as new,and A.tachytoma is redescribed with male for the first time.A checklist of all the described species in Taiwan is given.Photographs of the new species and the newly combined species are provided.     

Species ofAnthostomella from Brunei, includingA. oblongata sp. nov.

Species ofAnthostomella reported from Brunei have been re-examined and the data is summarized in this paper. Five species are accepted, four are synonyms of previously described species and one is a new species. The new speciesAnthostomella oblongata is described and illustrated and a list ofAnthostomella species known from Brunei and a key to these species are provided.     

Shallow water rissoiform gastropods from Tristan da Cunha, South Atlantic Ocean, with records of species from Gough Island

Shallow water rissoiform gastropods collected by the Norwegian Scientific Expedition (1937-1938) to Tristan da Cunha are described. The fauna consists of Powellisefia cf. philomelae (Watson) (Rissoidae), three new species of Eatoniella, E. trochiformisa, E. lineuta , and E. tristanensis (Eatoniellidae). two new species of Onoba, O. crassicordara and O. tristanensis (Rissoidae) and Rissoella cf. irma (Bartsch) (Rissoellidae). A small collection from Cough Island is also described, containing three species referred to Onoha , one of which is described as new. O. merelinoides , and a species of Eutoniella. The biogeographie relationships of the fauna are briefly discussed.     

The genus Unixenus Jones, 1944 (Diplopoda, Penicillata, Polyxenida) in Australia

The penicillate genus Unixenus Jones, 1944 is widespread, with species found in Africa, Madagascar, India and Australia. Each of the two Australian species was originally described from single samples from Western Australia. In this study, collections of Penicillata from museums in all states of Australia were examined to provide further details of the two described species, to revise the diagnoses for both the genus and the species, and to better understand the distribution of the two species in Australia. In addition, two new species Unixenus karajinensissp. n. and Unixenus corticolussp. n. are described.     

Revision of the endemic Taiwanese millipede genus Aponedyopus Verhoeff, 1939, with descriptions of two new species (Diplopoda, Polydesmida, Paradoxosomatidae). Advances in the systematica of Diplopoda III

The millipede genus Aponedyopus is endemic to Taiwan and contains three species. All previously described nominal species are considered to represent one species: Aponedyopus montanus Verhoeff, 1939 (the type species), including Aponedyopus reesi (Wang, 1957) and Aponedyopus maculatus Takakuwa, 1942, syn. n. Two further species are described as new: Aponedyopus similissp. n. and Aponedyopus latilobatussp. n. The genus is re-diagnosed, all of its three species are keyed, and their distributions mapped.     

A new member of the subgenus Sinobosmina Lieder, 1957: Bosmina tripurae sp. nov. (Crustacea,Cladocera) from India

A new species, Bosmina tripurae is described from South India. The species shares some of the morphological traits with Bosmina fatalis from East and SE Asia, and two other species described recently from North America. They all form a subgeneric group established earlier: subgenus Sinobosmina Lieder 1957. Parthenogenetic females of the new species are superficially similar to the species Bosmina longirostris, which occurs on Indian subcontinent, only in northern high mountain lakes. All reports of the latter species from Indian lowlands are either Bosmina tripurae or some other not yet described species. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.

Notes on the Nazeris fauna of Yunnan Province, China (Coleoptera, Staphylinidae, Paederinae)

Two new species of the genus Nazeris Fauvel collected from Nabanhe Nature Reserve, Yunnan Province, are described under the names of Nazeris nabanhensissp. n. and Nazeris caoisp. n. The male sexual characters are described and illustrated. A key to the Nazeris species of Yunnan is provided. A map of the collecting sites is given.     

Review of the genus Fontidessus Miller & Spangler, 2008 (Coleoptera,Dytiscidae, Hydroporinae,Bidessini) with description of four new species

The genus Fontidessus Miller & Spangler, 2008 (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae: Hydroporinae: Bidessini) is reviewed. The genus now includes seven species with three previously described, and four new species described here: F. microphthalmus Miller & Montano, sp. n.; F. bettae Miller & Montano, sp. n.; F. christineae Miller & Montano, sp. n., and F. aquarupe Miller & Montano, sp. n. Each species is diagnosed and described, including the previously known species, based on new specimens and new information. Habitus, male genitalia and other diagnostic features are illustrated for each species. A key to the seven species is provided. Fontidessus species are unique to hygropetric habitats in the Guiana Shield craton of northern South American.     

Two new species of Tovlinius Zaitzev, from China, with a key to the genera of Bombyliinae from China and a second key to the world species (Diptera, Bombyliidae, Bombyliinae, Bombyliini)

The genus Tovlinius Zaitzev is a Palaearctic genus with just one previously described species, Tovlinius albissimus Zaitzev. Tovlinius is here recorded from China for the first time, and two new species Tovlinius pyramidatussp. n. and Tovlinius turriformissp. n. are described and illustrated. A key to the genera of Bombyliinae from China and a second key to the World species of Tovlinius are also presented herein.

The Chromodorididae (Opisthobranchia: Mollusca) of the Indo-West Pacific: further species of Glossodoris, Thorunna and the Chromodoris aureomarginata colour group

Nineteen species of chromodorid nudibranchs from the Indo-West Pacific are described including 12 new to science. There are four new species of Glossodoris and one new species of Thorunna . The anatomy of two other species of Thorunna, T. daniellae and T. florens , is described and the problematical 'Hypselodoris' kulonba Burn, 1966 is shown to belong to the genus Digidentis. New species of chromodorids which are white with a yellow or red margin. or markings. from the genera Durvilledoris. Noumea and Cadlina are also described. Notes on colour variation in Glossodoris pallida and Chromodoris splendida are included.
