Two experiments were conducted to determine if adrenal secretion of steroids differed between cows that formed ovarian follicular cysts and normal cycling cows. In experiment 1, lactating Jersey and Holstein cows were diagnosed as having ovarian follicular cysts (follicle diameter >or=20 mm) by rectal palpation. Following diagnosis, ovaries were examined by transrectal ultrasonography three times weekly to detect subsequent ovulation (n=8) or new cyst formation (n=9). Venous blood samples were collected daily to quantify circulating concentrations of cortisol and progesterone. The average concentration of cortisol during the 10-day period prior to ovulation was not different from the concentration prior to the formation of a new cyst. In experiment 2, secretion of cortisol and progesterone was examined in cows with ovarian follicular cysts (n=4) and cyclic, control cows in the follicular phase of the estrous cycle (n=4). An adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) challenge was administered to cystic cows 4-7 days after new cyst formation and to cyclic cows in the follicular phase of the cycle (36 h after induction of luteolysis). Jugular venous blood samples were collected at -60, -30, 0, +10, +20, +30, +60, +90, +120, +180, +240, +300 and +360 minutes relative to ACTH administration. A rapid increase in both cortisol and progesterone was observed immediately following administration of ACTH in each treatment group. Peak concentrations of both steroids were achieved within 60 minutes after administration of ACTH. Concentrations of cortisol and progesterone did not differ between cystic and cyclic cows. In summary, no differences in adrenal function were detected between normal cycling cows and cows with ovarian follicular cysts.  相似文献

The objective of this observational study was to evaluate the association between lameness, ovarian cysts, and fertility in lactating dairy cows. Data analysis of historical records from a 3000 Holstein farm was conducted. Sixty-five cows that became lame within 30 days postpartum were used as cases, and 130 nonlame cows served as controls. The outcome variables were incidence of ovarian cysts (OC, %), conception rate at first service (CRFS, %), overall pregnancy rate (PR, %), and calving to first service interval (CFSI, day), Incidence of OC and CRFS were analyzed by logistic regression, PR by survival analysis and CFSI by ANOVA. Lame cows had a lower CRFS (17.5% versus 42.6%) and higher incidence of OC (25.0% versus 11.1%) than controls (P0.05). There was a multicollinearity relationship between lameness and ovarian cysts. The results show that cows that became lame within the first 30 days postpartum were associated with a higher incidence of ovarian cysts, a lower likelihood of pregnancy, and lower fertility than control cows. Because this is an observational study it is not possible to conclude a cause-effect relationship.  相似文献

Weekly reproductive health examinations were performed on 46 multiparous Holstein cows from 14 to 100 d post partum. Sixteen cows developed 19 nonsimultaneous ovarian cysts, with a mean day of first detection at 34.3 +/- 4.5 d post partum and a mean duration of 31.0 +/- 4.3 d after first detection. Coccygeal blood was collected three times weekly, and plasma progesterone concentrations were determined by radioimmunoassay. Cysts were diagnosed by palpation per rectum or by ultrasonography and classified as follicular or luteal cysts; the cows were not treated. Cows with a mean plasma progesterone concentration of < 1 ng/ml from the first day of detection (Day 1) of a cyst until Day 10 were classified as having a follicular cyst, and those with a mean plasma progesterone concentration of >/= 1 ng/ml from Day 1 to Day 10 were classified as having a luteal cyst. According to this classification, 58% of the cysts were follicular and 42% were luteal. There was an overall 47% agreement between classification by palpation and by ultrasonography on Day 1 with progesterone concentration during Days 1 to 10 after detection of the cyst. Detailed graphs of progesterone concentrations and area of largest follicles or cysts and corpora lutea demonstrate the variability of ovarian structures and progesterone profiles in cystic cows. Detection of a cyst at any one time accompanied by simultaneous measurement of progesterone can lead to different diagnoses of cyst type depending on the method of classification, the presence and age of luteinized tissue in the cyst and undetected corpora lutea.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to compare the effectiveness of the Ovsynch and controlled internal drug releasing (CIDR) protocols under commercial conditions for the treatment of cystic ovarian disease in dairy cattle. A total of 401 lactating dairy cows with ovarian cysts were alternatively allocated to two treatment groups on the day of diagnosis. Cows in the Ovsynch group were treated with GnRH on Day 0, PGF2alpha on Day 7, GnRH on Day 9, with timed insemination 16-20 h later. Cows in the CIDR group were treated with a CIDR insert on Day 0 for 7 days; on Day 7, the CIDR was removed, and cows were treated with PGF2alpha. All cows in the CIDR group were observed for estrus and cows exhibiting estrus within 7 days following removal of the CIDR and PGF2alpha administration were inseminated. The outcomes of interest for this experiment were the likelihood to be inseminated, return to cyclicity (determined by a CL on Day 21), conception and pregnancy rates. Data for these variables were analyzed using logistic regression. The percentage of cows inseminated in the Ovsynch and CIDR groups were 82 and 44%, respectively. Cows in the Ovsynch group were 5.8 times more likely to be inseminated than cows in the CIDR group. Cows with a low BCS were 0.48 times less likely to be inseminated than cows with a high BCS. The percentage of cows with a CL on Day 21 for the Ovsynch and CIDR groups was 83 and 79%, respectively (P > 0.05). Cows with a low BCS were 0.49 times less likely to have CL on Day 21 than cows with a high BCS. Conception and pregnancy rates for cows in the Ovsynch group were 18.3 and 14.4%, respectively. Conception and pregnancy rates for cows in the CIDR group were 23.1 and 9.5%, respectively. There was no significant differences between conception or pregnancy rates in cows in both groups. Primiparous cows were 2.6 times more likely to conceive than multiparous cows. In conclusion, the results of this study suggested that fertility was not different between cows with ovarian cysts treated with either the Ovsynch or the CIDR protocols in this dairy herd. In addition, primiparous cows had an increased likelihood for conception compared to multiparous cows, and cows with a low BCS were less likely to be inseminated or have a CL on Day 21, regardless of treatment.  相似文献

This study examined the effect of estradiol benzoate (EB) plus progesterone (P4) as compared with GnRH on follicular wave emergence and follicular development, and synchrony of ovulation and pregnancy rates following a second injection of GnRH in a controlled internal drug release (CIDR)-based timed AI (TAI) protocol in lactating dairy cows with follicular cysts. Lactating dairy cows diagnosed with follicular cysts received a CIDR device, with an injection of 2mg EB plus 50mg P4 (EB+P4 group) or with an injection of 100 microg GnRH (GnRH group) at the beginning of the experiment (day 0). Thereafter, all received PGF(2alpha) at the time of CIDR removal on day 7, GnRH on day 9, and TAI 16 h later. Follicular wave emergence occurred within 7 days in 12/15 EB plus P4-treated and 14/15 GnRH-treated cows (P>0.05). The interval to wave emergence was longer in the EB+P4 group (4.8+/-0.4 days) than in the GnRH group (2.0+/-0.2 days). The mean diameters of preovulatory follicles and the proportion of cows with preovulatory follicles greater than 12 mm on day 9 did not differ between groups (P>0.05). The proportion of cows with synchronized ovulations by 40 h after the GnRH injection on day 11 and pregnancy rates to TAI did not differ between the EB+P4 (13/15 and 36.7%) and the GnRH (14/15 and 53.3%) groups, respectively. Results suggest that a single treatment with EB plus P4 as compared with GnRH simultaneously with CIDR insertion in lactating dairy cows with follicular cysts will result in relatively asynchronous emergence of a new follicular wave, but subsequently similar sizes of preovulatory follicles and synchronous ovulation, resulting in similar pregnancy rates to TAI.  相似文献

Sixty-seven ultrasonograms of ovarian cysts (cysts) from 35 cows were used to evaluate sector scan ultrasonography as a means for differentiating luteal cysts from follicular cysts. Initial diagnosis of cysts was made by ovarian palpation per rectum during weekly herd visits. The ovaries of each cow were then examined by ultrasonography. Ultrasonograms of cysts > 25 mm in diameter were diagnosed as either luteinized or follicular cysts and were recorded on video tape for evaluation by a second clinician. Serum progesterone concentrations at the time of examination were determined by radioimmunoassay and were used to classify luteal (> 0.5 ng/ml) or follicular (相似文献

In dairy farm management economic losses resulting from cystic ovarian degeneration are well known. In spite of this, neither the definition nor the aetiopathology of ovarian cysts are clear and agreed upon. Also the usual classification in luteal and follicular cysts, requiring ultrasound examination together with assessment of P4 to be accurate, is not very helpful in field conditions. Consequently a single treatment is often provided for both types of cysts, and since the 1970s treatments with GnRH and its analogues have been considered very useful. Nevertheless differences in recovery rates after GnRH treatment in animals with either luteal or follicular cysts are reported. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate recovery rate, recovery time and conception rate after treatment with buserelin (GnRH-analogue) in cows with ovarian luteal or follicular cysts. In a 5 years period, 150 cows with cysts out of a total of 990 animals, were detected and treated intravenously between 45 and 60 days PP with 20μg buserelin. No statistically significant differences were found in recovery rates and in conception rates between the two types of cysts. Comparison of recovery times showed significantly shorter recovery for cows with luteal cysts. The results emphasise the usefulness of GnRH to treat ovarian cysts regardless of their type, in relation to both recovery and conception rates. Intervals from treatment to resumption of ovarian activity were affected by the characteristics of ovarian cysts, with a faster recovery for the luteal type.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to evaluate the association between the level of milk production on the day of diagnosis of ovarian cysts and treatment response using the Ovsynch protocol. On the day of cyst diagnosis (Day 0), 260 lactating dairy cows with ovarian cysts were treated with gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), PGF2alpha on Day 7, GnRH on Day 9, and timed inseminated 16-20 h later (Ovsynch protocol). Pregnancy was determined (by transrectal palpation) between 42 and 49 days after insemination. On Day 0, data for milk production (kg/day), parity, days in milk (DIM), and body condition score (BCS) were recorded. Using the median value for milk production on the day of diagnosis, cows were classified as high producers (>28.5 kg) and low producers (or=0.05). Primiparous cows were more likely (adjusted odds ratio: AOR=3.63; 95% CI: 95% confidence intervals=1.28-10.30; P相似文献

Cystic ovarian disease is a major cause of reproductive failure and economic loss for the dairy industry. Many cysts that develop during the early postpartum period regress spontaneously. However, it is difficult to decide at what point it would be more cost effective to treat ovarian cysts than to wait for spontaneous recovery. The objective of this study was to analyze risk factors for the development of the ovarian cystic condition during early and late postpartum, and for its persistence or recovery during the pre-service period in lactating dairy cows. Using multiple logistic regression, we analyzed data derived from 873 lactating dairy cows from a single herd. An ovarian cyst was diagnosed if it was possible to observe a single follicular structure with an antrum diameter > or = 25 mm in the absence of a corpus luteum in three sonograms performed at 7-day intervals. The cystic condition was denoted as early if the cyst was diagnosed 43-49 days postpartum, and late if detected 57-63-day postpartum. Spontaneous cyst regression before 60-day postpartum was regarded as early cystic recovery. For the early cystic group, there were no significant effects of lactation number, body condition score on prepartum Day 60, at parturition or on postpartum Day 30, or of body condition loss from parturition to 30-day postpartum. Cows calving in summer were 2.6 times more likely to develop ovarian cysts than those giving birth in winter. The risk of having a cyst was 1.9 times higher in cows with an abnormal puerperium. A 1-kg increase in milk yield raised the risk of cysts by a factor of 1.05. A 1-unit increase in body condition score (scale from 1 to 5) from prepartum Day 60 to parturition increased the risk of cyst development 8.4 times. Milk production and lactation number were negatively correlated with spontaneous early cyst recovery. A 1-kg decrease in milk production increased the probability of cyst recovery by a factor of 1.06, and a 1-unit drop in lactation number was associated with a 1.4-fold increased probability of cyst recovery. For the late cystic group, there were no significant effects of abnormal puerperium and body score data, except for a prepartum change in body score. Calving season (Odds ratio: 2.3), lactation number (Odds ratio: 1.36), increased milk production (Odds ratio: 1.05) and increased body condition score during the prepartum period (Odds ratio: 4.3) were all related to an increased risk of ovarian cysts. The probability of having a late cyst was 36.6 times greater in cows with early cysts. These findings suggest that it would be profitable to treat multiparous cows having cysts very early in the postpartum period, while treatment of primiparous cows should be delayed, at least until the end of the pre-service period, to provide the opportunity for spontaneous recovery.  相似文献

Our objectives were to evaluate circulating progesterone (P4) concentration dynamics and test the feasibility of inducing luteal regression after intravaginal (IVG) instillation of the PGF2α analogue dinoprost (PGF) in lactating dairy cows. In two experiments, cows were synchronized using the Ovsynch protocol to induce the formation of a corpus luteum (CL). Cows with at least one functional (P4 ≥1 ng/mL) CL ≥15 mm 7.5 days after Ovsynch remained in the studies. In experiment 1, cows (n = 31) were stratified by parity group and received 5 mL of saline IVG (SAL-IVG, n = 6), 25 mg of PGF intramuscular (IM) (PGF25-IM, n = 7), 25 mg of PGF IVG (PGF25-IVG, n = 6), 50 mg of PGF IVG (PGF50-IVG, n = 6), and 125 mg of PGF IVG (PGF125-IVG, n = 6). Experiment 2 was conducted to test the hypothesis that IVG instillation of two 25 mg doses of PGF 12 hours apart would be more effective than a 25- or 50-mg dose in a single application. Cows (n = 32) were stratified by parity and received SAL-IVG (n = 7), PGF25-IM (n = 7), PGF25-IVG (n = 6), and PGF50-IVG (n = 6) as in experiment 1, whereas another group received two IVG instillations of 25 mg of PGF 12 hours apart (PGF25-2X-IVG, n = 6). Blood was collected at −1 hour, every 6 hours from 0 hour to 24 hours, and every 12 hours up to 96 hours after treatment (trt). In experiment 1, there was an effect of trt (P < 0.01), time (P < 0.001), and an interaction between trt and time on P4 concentrations (P < 0.001). All PGF-treated groups had lower (P < 0.05) concentrations of P4 than cows in the SAL-IVG group from 12 to 96 hours after trt. Although an initial decline in P4 concentrations was induced in all PGF-treated cows, some cows in the IVG-treated groups presented a rebound in plasma P4, indicating CL recovery. More cows in the PGF25-IVG and PGF125-IVG groups than in the PGF50-IVG and PGF25-IM groups presented CL recovery, suggesting that greater doses of PGF may not necessarily improve CL regression. In experiment 2, there was an effect of trt (P < 0.001), time (P < 0.001), and an interaction between trt and time on P4 concentrations (P < 0.001). All PGF-treated groups had lower (P < 0.05) P4 than the SAL-IVG group from 12 to 96 hours after trt. Cows in the PGF25-2X-IVG group had a P4 profile that was similar to that of cows in the PGF25-IM group and the lowest P4 concentrations after treatment among the IVG-treated groups, and all cows presented complete CL regression (defined as P4 <0.4 ng/mL). We conclude that CL regression can be induced through IVG instillation of PGF in lactating dairy cows and that instillation of two IVG doses of 25 mg of PGF 12 hours apart was the most effective strategy.  相似文献

The present study examined ovarian changes preceding the resumption of the ovarian cycle in postpartum dairy cows with different parities under similar body nutritional conditions. In postpartum primi- (n=6), bi- (n=4), and multiparous (n=6) Holstein dairy cows, ovarian ultrasonographic observations starting at 7 days after calving were performed every other day and then daily after the confirmation of clinical signs of oestrus for the detection of postpartum first ovulation. Blood samples were collected at the same time as ultrasonography and analyzed for oestradiol and progesterone to monitor ovarian activity. To evaluate the nutritional condition of the cows, body weight and body condition score (BCS, 1=emaciated to 5=obese) were measured weekly and blood samples for the analysis of glucose, insulin, and non-esterified fatty acid (NEFA) were collected at the same time until postpartum second ovulation. Dominant follicles (>8mm in diameter) of the first follicular wave were detected at 7 days after calving in all cows. The first wave follicle ovulated in five of six multiparous cows, whereas no first wave follicle ovulated in any of the primiparous cows. The days to first ovulation after calving in primiparous cows (31.8+/-8.3 days) were significantly greater (p<0.05) than those in multiparous cows (17.3+/-6.3 days), but were not significantly different from biparous cows (28.8+/-8.6 days). There was a significant relationship between parity and days to first ovulation after calving (p<0.05). BCS was maintained at a level of more than 2.5 during the postpartum period in all cows and there was no influence of parity on postpartum changes in BCS, glucose, insulin, or NEFA throughout the experiment. The present study demonstrated a negative relationship between parity and number of days from calving to first ovulation in dairy cows under similar body nutritional conditions. It is possible that the influence of parity on the resumption of ovarian cycle is modulated by the factors different from the nutrition-related changes during the postpartum period in dairy cows.  相似文献

The objectives of this study were to evaluate ovarian changes in cows with follicular ovarian cysts following treatment with either GnRH or saline. The parameters determined were the intervals from treatment to observation of a CL and from treatment to disappearance of the cyst, and the association between serum concentrations of LH, FSH and the LH/FSH ratio, before and after treatment, with the test intervals. Thirty-nine cows were identified as having follicular cysts. The GnRH treatment induced a significant increase in LH and the LH/FSH ratio. The gonadotropin response was not associated with the intervals from treatment to CL detection or to disappearance of the cyst. Survival curves for the intervals from treatment to CL detection and cyst disappearance indicate that treatment with GnRH or saline did not yield significantly different results for either parameter. The results question the efficacy of treating cystic ovarian disease with GnRH.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to determine if there is an association between level of milk production and duration of estrus as determined by standing activity recorded by a radiotelemetry system. Holstein cows (n = 267; 50 DIM) were fitted with a transmitter that allowed continuous recording of standing activity. Cows were housed in a free-stall barn and milked twice daily. Ovulation was confirmed for all estruses (n = 380). Average milk production for the 10 days before the day of estrus was used to classify cows as lower (< 39.5 kg/day) or higher (>/= 39.5 kg/day) producers at the time of estrous expression. Follicle size and serum estradiol (E(2)) concentrations were determined in a subset of cows (n = 71) on the day of estrus. Duration (6.2 +/- 0.5 h versus 10.9 +/- 0.7 h; P < 0.0001), standing events (6.3 +/- 0.4 versus 8.8 +/- 0.6; P = 0.001), and standing time (21.7 +/- 1.3 s versus 28.2 +/- 1.9 s; P = 0.007) were shorter for estruses from higher (46.4 +/- 0.4 kg/day; n = 146) than lower producers (33.5 +/- 0.3 kg/day; n = 177). Milk production was correlated with the duration of estrus (r = -0.51; P < 0.0001; n = 323). Higher producers had lower E(2) concentrations than lower producers (6.8 +/- 0.5; n = 31 versus 8.6 +/- 0.5 pg/ml; n = 40; P = 0.01) in spite of larger pre-ovulatory follicle diameter (18.6 +/- 0.3; n = 31 versus 17.4 +/- 0.2 mm; n = 40; P 0.004). Interestingly, E(2) concentrations were not correlated with diameter of the pre-ovulatory follicle (r = -0.17; P = 0.15) but milk production was correlated with both E(2) concentrations (r = -0.57; P < 0.0001) and diameter of the pre-ovulatory follicle (r = 0.45; P < 0.0001). Thus, high milk production decreases duration of estrus probably due to decreased circulating concentrations of E(2).  相似文献

Fate and turnover rate of ovarian follicular cysts in dairy cattle   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Non-lactating, multiparous dairy cows diagnosed as having cysts by palpation per rectum were used. Cysts were induced with oestradiol-17 beta (15 mg) and progesterone (37.5 mg) dissolved in ethanol and injected s.c. twice daily for 7 days. Following initial diagnosis of cysts, ovaries were exposed by midventral laparotomy, and the perimeter of the base of each cyst was marked with subepithelial injections of charcoal. Ovaries were removed from cows by transvaginal incision at 10 days (Group 1; N = 8), 20 days (Group 2; N = 8), or 40 days (Group 3; N = 7) after marking of cysts. Ovaries were examined for structures present and their relationship to the marked site. Corpora lutea with ovulation papilla were present in 7/23 cows (1/8, 4/8 and 2/7, for Groups 1, 2 and 3, respectively). In these 7 cows, corpora lutea were at a site different from the original structure that was marked. Marked structures persisted for the duration of the experimental period in 1 and 2 cows, in Groups 1 and 3, respectively. In the remaining 13 cows, new large follicular structures (cysts) were present at a site other than that marked with charcoal. These structures developed on the ovary contralateral to the one originally marked in 9 of 13 cows. Cysts are therefore dynamic in nature and may persist or may be replaced by others.  相似文献

In this paper, the effect of clinical symptoms of uterine inflammation on progesterone profile characteristics was quantified in dairy cows. A continuous scale based on visual observation of vaginal discharge (the previously developed D-index) was used to describe the clinical symptoms. Progesterone profiles in milk were used to describe the ovarian cycles, and to determine the distinguishing features of these profiles, a multivariate statistical procedure (principal component analysis) was performed.Significant negative effects of the D-index were seen during the first and second postpartum ovarian cycles. The D-index had a significant effect on the shape of progesterone profiles and the length of the ovarian cycles but it only accounted for a small proportion of the variation in these ovarian cycle features. The D-index was not a significant risk factor for the length of postpartum anovulatory period in the present study.  相似文献

The objective was to evaluate pregnancy rate to a timed artificial insemination (TAI) protocol in the autumn for cows treated with a non-degradable GnRH agonist implant (Deslorelin [DESL], 5mg) during the summer heat stress period compared with non-treated controls (CON). Cows were randomly assigned to receive or not a DESL implant within 1-4 days postpartum (dpp) twice weekly, from 25 June through 8 August 2001. All cows in DESL implant and CON treatments were injected with PGF(2alpha) 7 days after enrollment. Ultrasonography (US) monitored numbers of ovarian follicles and corpus luteum (CL) at approximately 10, 30, 35/36, 45/44, 56/55 and 66/63dpp, while DESL implants were in situ and concurrently CON, respectively. DESL implants were removed at two specific days, 28 August and 4 September. Cows had DESL implant in situ for a range of 28-67 days, depending on date of enrollment and implant removal. Within 61-100dpp, 31 days after implant removal, DESL implant and CON cows were initiated in a Presynch-Ovsynch and TAI protocol. Pregnancy was evaluated by US and palpation per rectum at 28 and 46 days after TAI, respectively. Plasma concentrations of progesterone were analyzed for sets of blood samples collected during the Presynch-Ovsynch and at TAI day followed 8 days later. Cows in the DESL-implant treatment had more (P<0.01) Class 1 (3-5mm) follicles, less (P<0.01) Class 2 (6-9mm), Class 3 (> or =10mm) follicles and CL compared with CON cows. Proportion of cows having initiated estrous cycles after calving was less (P<0.01) in the DESL-implant treatment (52.2%, 58/111) compared with CON (93.7%, 104/111) at the beginning of Ovsynch. Pregnancy rate to TAI was less (P<0.01) in the DESL implant (27.5%, 33/120) compared with CON (53.9%, 69/128). Pregnancy rate to TAI was less (P<0.01) in DESL-implanted cows that had initiated estrous cycles after calving (30.6%, 19/62) compared with CON (53.7%, 65/121) cows having initiated estrous cycles after calving. Furthermore, pregnancy rate was less (P<0.01) for cows having ovulations that had initiated estrous cycles after TAI in the DESL implant (39.1%, 18/46) compared with CON (62.1%, 54/87) treatments. Pregnancy losses from day 28 to day 46 of pregnancy did not differ between DESL implant (15.1%, 5/33) and CON (13.0%, 9/69) treatments. The DESL implant induced a delay in initiation of a new wave of follicular development during the postpartum-heat stressed period. The lesser pregnancy rate in the DESL-implant treatment group may be due to a pool of heat stress damaged follicles that were depleted in the control group with re-occurring follicle waves.  相似文献

This field study compared the efficacy of a single injection of 200 microg fertirelin with that of 20 microg buserelin in shortening the recovery period of 68 laotating Holstein-Friesian cows with ovarian follicular cysts 65 d post partum or later. Differential diagnosis was based not only on palpation per rectum but also on skim milk progesterone profiles (or= 1.0 ng/ml) 1 wk after treatment, was evidenced in 75% of the fertirelin group and 72% of the buserelin group. A 74% conception rate was achieved in fertirelin-treated cows, with a mean interval of 71 d from treatment to conception. In the buserelin-treated cows, 65% conceived and the treatment-to-conception interval was 63 d. Differences were insignificant. At the doses used the two GnRH analogs were deemed equally effective in managing particularly stubborn follicular cysts.  相似文献

Plasma progesterone concentrations in jugular vein blood samples collected every other day after calving from 13 Friesian dairy cows indicated that ovarian cyclic activity was initiated by 16.6 +/- 1.1 (s.e.m.) days post partum, except for 1 cow which did not resume cyclic activity until Day 98 post partum. Rectal palpation of the ovaries indicated that a developing follicle was recognizable at a mean time of 15.7 +/- 2.0 days after calving. During the first oestrous cycle after parturition there was a significantly shorter period when plasma progesterone levels were elevated than during the next 2 cycles. Concentrations of progesterone, LH, FSH and prolactin were determined for 4 cows, in blood samples taken every 6 h from 2 to 36 days post partum. Tonic LH release was lower during the first 10 days than subsequently, but the lack of change in pattern for FSH suggests dissimilar control mechanisms for these hormones during this time. Three cows showed evidence of a resumption of ovarian cyclicity during the sampling period: in 2 there was an initial LH surge of a magnitude which would normally give rise to ovulation, followed 4 days later by an increase in plasma progesterone lasting only 5 and 9 days. This progesterone was considered to be of follicular origin. A second LH surge was followed by the presence of a corpus luteum.  相似文献

A study was conducted to identify relationships between serum sex steroid concentrations and release of gonadotropins in dairy cows with ovarian cysts. Cows with ovarian cysts were grouped according to sex steroid profiles as being under estrogenic (n = 6) or low steroid (n = 6) influence. All cows were submitted to a sampling and treatment protocol to 1) record basal pulsatile release of gonadotropins and 2) determine whether luteinizing hormone (LH) or follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) was released after sequential administration of exogenous estradiol and gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) treatments were given 30 h apart. Basal LH was higher in the estrogen-influence group (P < 0.05). There were no differences between groups in basal FSH concentrations or frequency and amplitude of pulsatile LH or FSH release. Only one of the twelve cows, an individual from the low steroid group, had a preovulatory-like surge of gonadotropins after exogenous estradiol. All cows released LH and FSH in response to GnRH treatment, with no differences between groups. These results show that 1) there is considerable variation in pulsatile release of gonadotropins in cows with ovarian cysts, even among individuals with similar sex steroid profiles, and 2) suggest that a factor in the persistence, and perhaps initiation, of the cystic condition is refractoriness to the positive feedback effect of estradiol on gonadotropin release.  相似文献
