A single female specimen of jawfish Opistognathus evermanni (Perciformes: Opistognathidae) was recorded with the standard length of 73.17 mm from Mudasal Odai fish landing centre, along Parangipettai coast, Southeast coast of India. Opistognathus evermanni possesses X + 12 dorsal spine and rays by the head are large, its width greater than that of body and uniformly pigmented, gill rakers are very long and slender, 10 + 20 found on first arch. Spinous dorsal fin, Caudal and anal fins are which are also very dark in coloration and possess two white stripes. The species O. evermanni locality was previously known only from the coastal waters of Japan. The present study reports the first record of O. evermanni along the Southeast Coast of India that found a new addition to the Indian coastal ichthyofauna.  相似文献

Cysticercoids of five species of Raillietina, R. australis (Krabbe, 1869) Fuhrmann, 1924, R. beveridgei O'Callaghan, Davies & Andrews, 2000, R. chiltoni O'Callaghan, Davies & Andrews, 2000, R. dromaius O'Callaghan, Davies & Andrews, 2000 and R. mitchelli O'Callaghan, Davies & Andrews, 2000, parasitic in the emu Dromaius novaehollandiae Latham, are described. Each species was identified on the basis of the number and size of the rostellar hooks, which correspond to those of adult worms. Cysticercoids were recovered from the haemocoele of the gaster of ants belonging to the genus Pheidole (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) in Australia. There was a trend towards an inverse relationship between the size of the cysticercoids and the parasite burden in the intermediate host.  相似文献

A review of cestodes currently attributed to Progamotaenia zschokkei (Janicki, 1905) (Cestoda: Anoplocephalidae) suggests that six additional species are present: Pr. tenuis n. sp. found in Thylogale stigmatica (Gould) and T. thetis (Lesson), Pr. lomatosoma n. sp.from Macropus agilis (Gould), Pr. petrogale n. sp. from Petrogale spp. and Macropus dorsalis(Grey), Pr. fimbriata n.s p. from Lagorchestes conspicillatus Gould and L. hirsutus Gould, Pr. obesa n. sp. from Onychogalea fraenata (Gould) and O. unguifera (Gould) in north-eastern Australia and Pr. kellerae n. sp. from O. unguifera in north-western Australia. The new species are differentiated by a combination of characters: prominence of scolex lobes, number of lobes in the fimbriated velum, testis number and distribution, size of the cirrus-sac, morphology of the uterus and presence or absence of a pyriform apparatus in eggs from terminal segments. The morphological differences found support earlier molecular studies, in that cestodes within each host genus are distinct, with the exception that considerable morphological variation exists within Pr. petrogale. Principal components analysis suggested that most of the cestodes from Petrogale spp. belonged to Pr. petrogale. The status of specimens from Pe. lateralis is unclear. More detailed molecular studies are required to determine the significance of the morphological variation within this taxon. A key is provided to species within the complex and the related species Pr. villosa (Lewis, 1914).  相似文献

Raillietina melomyos n. sp. from the small intestine ofMelomys rufescens in the Western Highlands of Papua New Guinea differs from related species in combinations of the number (170–190) and length (8–11 m) of the rostellar hooks, the number of testes (21–36) and of egg capsules per gravid proglottid (56–92), and in that the cirrus-sac does not reach the longitudinal osmoregulatory canals.  相似文献

The first species of the genus Helobdella in Australia is recorded from Victoria. Helobdella papillornata has all of the diagnostic features of the genus including: triannulate segments, one pair of eyes on somite II, diffuse salivary glands, five crop caeca, one annulus between the gonopores and one annulus between the anus and the caudal sucker. It is characterised by a subterminal mouth, lobed gastric caeca, five to seven darkly pigmented papillae per somite on the dorsal surface, 14 brown dorsal stripes, five pairs of compact testisacs and a resting length of 15 mm and a maximum extended length of 40 mm. Individuals lay between 20 and 50 eggs attached directly to the ventral surface of the parent. At 20 °C the eggs hatch after 2 weeks and the young immediately reattach to the parent for a further 2 to 4 weeks, during which time the attached young feed on snails captured by the parent. After leaving the parent, young forage on their own or in small groups of three or more until they reach reproductive maturity. Individuals become reproductively mature, producing eggs and young, 3 to 4 months after hatching.  相似文献

(type species); Nephopyrgodesmusgen. n., with Nephopyrgodesmus eungellasp. n. (type and only species); and Notopyrgodesmusgen. n., with Notopyrgodesmus kullasp. n. (type species), Notopyrgodesmus lanosussp. n. and Notopyrgodesmus weirisp. n. A new species of tripterygiid fish, belonging to the recently described genusCeratobregma Holleman, 1987, is characterized by a total of 17 spines in the second dorsal fin, 8 rays in the third dorsal fin, 20 anal fin rays (spines+rays = 22), 14 + 21 lateral line scales, a total of 35–37 lateral scale series, small spiny scales on the sides of the head behind the eye and on the upper cheeks, 14 vertical dark stripes along the upper sides of the body, and 8 basal blotches on the second dorsal fin. A key to the species ofCeratobregma is presented.Norfolkia brachylepis is described and recorded from northwestern Australia.Norfolkia springen is synonymized withN. brachylepis.  相似文献

Four species of Biuterina Fuhrmann, 1902 (Cestoda, Cyclophyllidea, Paruterinidae), originally described from Afrotropical passeriform birds, are redescribed and figured on the basis of their type-specimens. These are B. pentamyzos (Mettrick, 1960) from Prionops plumata (Laniidae) in Zimbabwe, B. quelea (Mettrick, 1963) from Quelea quelea (Ploceidae) in Zimbabwe, B. ugandae Baylis, 1919 from Chalcomitra senegalensis (Nectariniidae) in Uganda and B. zambiensis (Mettrick, 1960) from Campephaga flava (Campephagidae) in Zimbabwe. The rostellum of B. quelea is a spherical structure filled with strongly-developed glandular tissue and possessing a weak musculature. The remaining three species have a sucker-like rostellar apparatus with moderately developed glandular tissue in the rostellum and around it. It is considered that the glandular elements are an inherent part of the rostellar apparatus of the paruterinids. An armament consisting of fine, punctiform, spine-like structures arranged in transverse rows on the inner surface of suckers is observed in B. pentamyzos. This is the first record of sucker armature in the Paruterinidae.  相似文献
