FK-33-824 (Try-D-Ala-Gly-MePhe-Met(O)ol) is a potent enkephalin analog which has been tritium labelled with a high specific radioactivity (41 Ci/mmole). The labelled drug exhibits specific and saturable binding to rat brain crude mitochondrial fraction. Specific binding is inhibited by low concentrations of morphine, levallorphan and beta-endorphin, suggesting that FK 33-824 [3H] binds preferentially to mu opiate sites. Binding studies at equilibrium and kinetics of formation and dissociation of the labelled ligand-receptor complex indicate that FK 33-824 [3H] binds to two classes of specific sites. Their affinities are distinguishable at 0 degree (KD = 1.3 and 5.8 nM) and very close to each other at 37 degree (KD = 1.9 nM).  相似文献

Using a simplified model of the upper airways with two independent collapsible elements (nostrils and hypo-pharynx), we calculated the cross-sectional area of these two elements, taking into account pressure drops. We experimentally measured flow and pressure in the fossa and hypo-pharynx in various syndromes. This allowed us to compare the behaviour of the area supplied by our model with the aerodynamic resistance that is often used to analyse upper airway flow limitation events. We showed that nostril and hypo-pharyngeal areas are better correlated than the resistance values and thus concluded that the pressure divided by the square of the flow is a better parameter for analysing flow limitation in upper airways than resistance. Owing to its simplicity, our model is able to supply the area of the collapsible element in real time, which is impossible with more sophisticated models.  相似文献

Impact of spatial heterogeneity on a predator-prey system dynamics   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
This paper deals with the study of a predator-prey model in a patchy environment. Prey individuals moves on two patches, one is a refuge and the second one contains predator individuals. The movements are assumed to be faster than growth and predator-prey interaction processes. Each patch is assumed to be homogeneous. The spatial heterogeneity is obtained by assuming that the demographic parameters (growth rates, predation rates and mortality rates) depend on the patches. On the predation patch, we use a Lotka-Volterra model. Since the movements are faster that the other processes, we may assume that the frequency of prey and predators become constant and we would get a global predator-prey model, which is shown to be a Lotka-Volterra one. However, this simplified model at the population level does not match the dynamics obtained with the complete initial model. We explain this phenomenom and we continue the analysis in order to give a two-dimensional predator-prey model that gives the same dynamics as that provided by the complete initial one. We use this simplified model to study the impact of spatial heterogeneity and movements on the system stability. This analysis shows that there is a globally asymptotically stable equilibrium in the positive quadrant, i.e. the spatial heterogeneity stabilizes the equilibrium.  相似文献

We use the concept of steady-state characteristic of a population using a single limiting resource, in order to discuss the issue of the competition of many species for the same resource. The steady-state characteristic is a curve that is associated to each species, likely to be determined empirically. Once one knows the steady-state characteristics and the dynamic of the renewal of the resource, it is possible to predict to some extent the issue of the competition and to give sufficient conditions for coexistence.  相似文献

With an expectation of life at birth of 27 years in the middle of the 18th century, 21% of males reached their 60th birthday with a remaining expectation of life of 12 years. Under the conditions of mortality of 1950, in France, 70 percent could celebrate their 60th birthday, and they had still 15 years (only) to live on the average. This last figure started increasing after 1950: the expectancy of life at age 60 is now over 20 years, and it will exceed 25 years around 2050 (for women, the mean will be 31 years). Longevity is an individual capacity. It is now increasing fast, and becomes more and more responsible for the ageing of the population (the rise in the proportion of older persons in the population). We now try to forecast the number of centenarians, and even of super-centenarians (aged 110 years and more), and speculate about the maximum life span. We are in fact entering an entirely new era, when three, four, even five generations can survive simultaneously. Are we prepared to it? The French Ministers for Research and for Social affairs set up a Committee of 15 members (chaired by Henri Leridon) to prepare a National Meeting of Researchers on Ageing, in order to review the situation of research in France on this issue and to make proposals for organising and orienting new studies. The life span of human species, as well as the one of individuals, is undoubtedly depending upon genetic factors. But interactions with environmental factors and with behaviour also play a major role. To be able to disentangle these complex associations, it will be necessary to combine the work of biologists, clinicians and social sciences specialists. The main conclusions of the June 2001 meeting are reported here, together with some orientations of demographic research on mortality at oldest ages and the limits of longevity.  相似文献

In an inundated Mexican forest, 89 out of 92 myrmecophytic tank bromeliads (Aechmea bracteata) housed an associated ant colony: 13 sheltered Azteca serica, 43 Dolichoderus bispinosus, and 33 Neoponera villosa. Ant presence has a positive impact on the diversity of the aquatic macroinvertebrate communities (n = 30 bromeliads studied). A Principal Component Analysis (PCA) showed that the presence and the species of ant are not correlated to bromeliad size, quantity of water, number of wells, filtered organic matter or incident radiation. The PCA and a generalized linear model showed that the presence of Azteca serica differed from the presence of the other two ant species or no ants in its effects on the aquatic invertebrate community (more predators). Therefore, both ant presence and species of ant affect the composition of the aquatic macroinvertebrate communities in the tanks of Abracteata, likely due to ant deposition of feces and other waste in these tanks.  相似文献

A theoretical analysis of the distinguishability problem of two rival models of the single enzyme-single substrate reaction, the Michaelis-Menten and Henri mechanisms, is presented. We also outline a general approach for analysing the structural indistinguishability between two mechanisms. The approach involves constructing, if possible, a smooth mapping between the two candidate models. Evans et al. [N.D. Evans, M.J. Chappell, M.J. Chapman, K.R. Godfrey, Structural indistinguishability between uncontrolled (autonomous) nonlinear analytic systems, Automatica 40 (2004) 1947-1953] have shown that if, in addition, either of the mechanisms satisfies a particular criterion then such a transformation always exists when the models are indistinguishable from their experimentally observable outputs. The approach is applied to the single enzyme-single substrate reaction mechanism. In principle, mechanisms can be distinguished using this analysis, but we show that our ability to distinguish mechanistic models depends both on the precise measurements made, and on our knowledge of the system prior to performing the kinetics experiments.  相似文献

Obesity is associated with several endocrine disorders, including hypersensitivity of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of a high carbohydrate diet on structural and ultrastructural features of steroidogenic tissue, as well to evaluate adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), cortisol, and insulin levels in the blood and steroidogenic acute regulatory protein (StAR) expression in the adrenals of gerbils. In electron microscopy, the most pronounced effect of the hypercaloric diet was observed in the zona fasciculata. Plasma levels of ACTH, cortisol, and insulin also showed significant increases. However, no significant change was noted in StAR protein levels. There is evidence that high carbohydrate intake brings about remarkable morphological and functional modifications. This could ultimately lead to mitochondrial alteration and accumulation of lipid droplets, which may lead to inflammation and degeneration of adrenal cells.  相似文献

In this paper we analyze the rodent assemblage from the Early Pleistocene site of Gruta1 (Quibas karstic complex, Murcia, SE Spain), providing taphonomic comments and paleoecological and paleoclimatic data. The studied assemblage includes 209 identified rodent teeth corresponding to at least four taxa. The karstic source of the site and the low presence of digested remains suggest that the accumulation is scatological in origin, with the influence of predators such as owls; the accumulation also shows certain evidence of slight hydrodynamic sorting. For the area around Quibas/Gruta1 the paleoecological study indicates a predominance of rocky areas (31.7%), forested environments (31.7%) and open dry meadows or shrublands (29.7%), which would indicate a mosaic forest environment, and to a lesser extent the presence of open humid land (5.4%) and areas along streams or ponds (1.5%). The distribution of the bioclimatic spectra yields the highest percentage for a Mediterranean climate (37.5%), while the climatic parameters calculated (MAT = 15 °C, MTW = 25.7 °C, MTC = 4.3 °C, MAP = 390 mm) suggest colder and slightly more humid conditions than today at the time of the deposition of the remains. The data also point to a relative decrease in temperature within the phase in which the site was produced, which possibly occurred during a relative cold period between MIS 36 and MIS 40 according to the age.  相似文献

Hand-clapping is a form of gestural communication commonly observed in captive great apes yet only isolated instances of this behaviour have been documented in the wild. Nearly 20 years ago Fay recorded the first observations of hand-clapping in western lowland gorillas (Gorilla gorilla gorilla) in the Central African Republic. Here we present observations of Likouala swamp gorillas using hand-clapping as a form of gestural communication in previously undocumented contexts in the wild. We observed hand-clapping on four different occasions in four different groups. The hand-clap was always exhibited by an adult female and always consisted of two consecutive claps conducted in front of the body. We suggest the functional significance of the behaviour was to maintain and enforce group cohesiveness during instances of alarm. These observations suggest western lowland gorillas have a means of communicating that is thus far absent in their eastern counterparts (Gorilla beringei ssp.). This could be a gestural culture found only in western lowland gorillas which should be investigated further to shed light on the evolution of communication among hominoids.  相似文献

We study, from a numerical point of view, some properties of a model which describes the evolution of a population of Gambussia affinis. Our model includes sufficiently smooth vital functions. First we select, among four numerical methods of second order, the most appropriate in terms of adaptation to the problem. The most efficient method also reveals new properties of the model for long times, such as the tendency to periodicity, obtained with different initial conditions. Sleep disorders have a high prevalence: around 20% of insomniacs, 10% hypersomnolent including 2 to 4% of sleep disordered breathing in the general adult population. The low availability of sleep centres implies the research of alternative recording techniques in the natural setting of the patient. The objective was to evaluate an ambulatory recorder and its integration in a managed healthcare network. Fifteen patients had a full set-up at home and ten patients were hooked-up in the hospital but recorded at home. Technical failures occurred in 2/15 with full polysomnographic recordings. Integration within an experimental sleep network is in progress. This managed care network will include training of general practitioners, teletransmissions between GP and sleep specialists for a graded use of available resources including ambulatory monitoring.  相似文献

A collagenase from Empedobacter collagenolyticum was extracted from the culture medium of the bacteria. The complete purification of the enzyme was achieved by successive ammonium sulfate precipitation. Sephadex G 200 gel filtration and DEAE cellulose chromatography. This collagenase is active on insoluble collagen, and on the synthetic peptide Pz-Pro-Leu-Gly-Pro-D-Arg. Its optimum activity was at 30 degrees C and at pH 7.6. A strong inhibition was observed with chelating agents such as O-phenanthroline and EDTA. Among the cations tested to restore the activity, only Ca2+ has a measurable effect. Heavy metals, Pb, Hg, Cd, Cu, Fe, Co, strongly inhibit the enzyme activity. Zn2+ is also highly inhibitory; 10 microM ZnCl2 completely inhibits the collagenase. p CMB, iodoacetate have little effect on the collagenase. This new collagenase ressembles by most of its properties the already known bacterial collagenases.  相似文献

The use of a diversity of resistance genes limits the development of polycyclic epidemics caused by airborne pathogens and reduces the risk that resistance be overcome by virulent races. Diversity can be easily achieved by growing mixtures of cultivars with different resistance genes and homogeneous agronomic traits. The mechanisms by which disease is reduced in cultivar mixtures include the loss of inoculum due to the presence of resistant plants between susceptible ones and resistance induced by avirulent pathogens. The complementary effects of individual mixture components reacting to disease pressure and to abiotic stresses result in greater yield stability compared with pure stands. The quality of products from mixtures is at least equal to that obtained with pure stands. This type of resistance management is applicable to both annual and perennial crops.  相似文献

The response of Posidonia oceanica (Linnaeus) Delile to the warm-water episode of summer 1999 was studied by means of the technique of lepidochronology. Study sites include three sites affected by the mass mortality event of benthic invertebrates and one not affected. The results showed a significant decline in some parameters (number of leaves and/or rhizome growth) for the three sites affected by the mass mortality event for the year following the warm-water episode (1999-2000). A similar decline was not observed for the unaffected site. The fact that high temperatures could have a negative impact on deep Posidonia oceanica near its cold limit of distribution is an unexpected result.  相似文献

The anaerobic degradation of n-alkenes by a sulphate-reducing bacterium Desulfatibacillum aliphaticivorans strain CV2803T was investigated. Results suggest that enzymes required for alkene degradation are inducible. Moreover, total cellular fatty acids of strain CV2803T were predominantly C-odd when the strain was grown on C-odd substrates and C-even when grown on C-even substrates. In addition to classical bacterial fatty acids, unusual 4-Me-17:1delta11 and 4-Me-18:1delta11 fatty acids and their saturated homologues were detected when strain CV2803T was grown on 1-pentadecene and 1-hexadecene, respectively. These methyl-branched monounsaturated fatty acids could constitute specific metabolites of n-alkene degradation by sulphate-reducing bacteria.  相似文献

A reassessment of sanitheres Diamantohyus and Sanitherium based on important new material from Kenya, results in the view that the group warrants familial status separate from the Suidae with which it has been grouped until now. Analysis of distribution patterns and co-occurrences with other faunal elements in East Africa indicates that sanitheres probably preferred to live in or near wet habitats, notably swamps and lake margins.
