The present paper aims to describe the spatial distribution of zooplankton copepods, their biomass and instantaneous secondary production, in Barra Bonita, a large eutrophic, polymitic reservoir (22 degrees 29' S and 48 degrees 34' W) on the Tietê River, of the Paraná basin. Sampling was carried out during two seasons: dry winter and rainy summer. Species composition, age structure and numerical density of each copepod species population were analyzed at 25 sampling stations. Secondary production was calculated for Copepoda, the dominant group in zooplankton communities, taking Calanoida and Cyclopoida separately. Copepoda represented the largest portion of the total zooplankton biomass, the dominant species being Notodiaptomus iheringi among the Calanoida and Mesocyclops ogunnus and Thermocyclops decipiens among the Cyclopoida. The production of Copepoda was higher during the rainy summer (23.61 mgDW.m(-3).d(-1) in January 1995) than during the dry winter season (14 mgDW.m(-3).d(-1) in August 1995), following the general pattern of abundance for the whole zooplankton community. Among the copepods, Cyclopoida production was higher than that of Calanoida, a pattern commonly observed for tropical lakes and reservoirs. Barra Bonita copepods are very productive, but there was a great degree of spatial heterogeneity, related to the physical and chemical conditions, particularly the level of nutrients and also to phytoplankton biomass.  相似文献

Representatives from many taxa including the Protozoa, Cnidaria, Rotifera, Cladocera, Cyclopoida, Calanoida, Harpacticoida, Chaoboridae, and Mysidacea are reported to feed on rotifers. There are few good quantitative data on predation on rotifers by any of these taxa with two exceptions, Rotifera and Cyclopoida. The present review focuses on the dynamics of Cyclopoid copepod predation. Intense and selective cyclopoid copepod predation makes it an important factor to consider in studies of the population ecology and community structure of rotifer populations. Limited information available on other predatory invertebrate taxa suggests that rotifer production may contribute extensively to their diets.  相似文献

A new harpacticoid copepod species was found during a year round plankton survey in a shallow Antarctic bay. Both the dominant Calanoida and Cyclopoida and the often neglected Harpacticoida, their abundances in relation to sea-ice formation and decline in presence of Euphausia superba are regarded, in this study. Alteutha potter sp. n. (Peltidiidae) was collected in Potter Cove, King George Island, Antarctica. While its geographical region occurrence and planktonic life style are comparable to many of its congeners, morphological characters such as shape and setation of the maxilliped and the almost complete fusion of the baseoendopod and the exopod of the fifth leg in the female are described for the first time for this genus. Morphological peculiarities such as the lack, the deformation or fusion of setae on only one body side have been detected in several specimens. This copepod species is obviously sea-ice related. Its abundances in the plankton reached a maximum under the winter sea-ice. The year round population structure did not show very high variability whereas ovigerous females mostly occurred in spring and summer. We analyse the influence of the Kuroshio Current on copepod assemblages in the northern South China Sea. The assumption was tested whether predominant current regimes bring marine zooplankton and Copepoda from subtropical and tropical waters to the south of Taiwan. A total of 101 copepod species were identified from 26 families and 48 genera that include Calanoida, Cyclopoida, Harpacticoida and Poecilostomatoida. High copepod abundances in the study area are shown to be caused by both, a year-round Kuroshio Current intrusion and the SW monsoon, prevailing in the South China Sea during summer. Calanus sinicus did not appear in the samples, indicating that there was no cold water mass intrusion in the area during sampling. Both, the intrusion of the Kuroshio Branch Current to the Luzon Strait and the South China Sea circulation may play a more important role in shaping copepod assemblages in the region than hitherto expected. The abundance of copepods was higher above the 50 m isoline than at deeper strata. Species number and the Shannon-Wiener diversity index were higher with increasing depth. Copepod assemblage structure changed with different sampling depth and different sampling areas. Copepod abundance and species richness were higher in the northern South China Sea than in the Kuroshio Current area, and higher at lower latitudes than at higher latitudes. Some indicator species are characteristic for the Kuroshio Current and indicate with others that the study area accomodated water masses from the northern South China Sea as well as from the Kuroshio Current.  相似文献

The ecosystem of the Three Gorges in the Yangtze River was changed into an artificial lake (res-ervoir) ecosystem after impoundment in June 2003. We surveyed the seasonal variation and spatial distribution of copepods from April 2004 to January 2005 in order to provide data for clarifying the successional pattern of the ecosystem. From Jiangjin to Maoping, eight copepod species were collected and classified into Calanoida (2), Harpacticoida (1), and Cyclopoida (5). Among them, Mesocyclops pehpeiensis, M. leuckarti and Sinocalanus dorrii had a relatively wide distribution. No distinct dif-ference in species number was found among the sampling sites, but the species composition was different. Species composition, distribution and density of copepods showed significant seasonal variations. In addition, cope-pod density showed an obvious gradient with the distance from the reservoir dam: the nearer to the dam, the denser the copepods.  相似文献

浙江饮用水源地浮游动物群落特征及环境响应   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
2010年1月至2011年10月,对浙江省16个饮用水源地(H1—H8为河网型,K1—K8为水库型)的浮游动物群落进行季节调查。共记录浮游动物优势种(属)21种(轮虫8种、枝角类5种、剑水蚤5种和哲水蚤3种),各类群第一优势种分别为针簇多肢轮虫(Polyarthra trigla)、长额象鼻溞(Bosmina longirostris)、粗壮温剑水蚤(Thermocyclops dybowskii)和汤匙华哲水蚤(Sinocalanus dorrii)。2年间,河网和水库浮游动物平均密度分别为345.2 L-1和199.4 L-1,生物量分别为0.667 mg/L和0.421mg/L。各类群密度百分比例均以轮虫和桡足类无节幼体为主,甲壳动物以剑水蚤为主。经逐步回归分析表明,浮游动物群落密度(生物量)与河网水质因子(P0.01)之间相关性比水库(P0.05)更密切,总磷和氨氮分别入选了河网和水库所有有效的回归方程中。通径分析和决策系统分析表明,河网的总磷和叶绿素a含量对浮游动物群落变动具有正效应,溶解氧具有负效应;总磷含量是影响河网群落变动的最重要因子,叶绿素a含量则是影响群落增长最主要的限制因子。河网剑水蚤、无节幼体和轮虫群落的密度(生物量)与水体综合营养指数TLIc密度(TLIc生物量)之间有显著的线性回归关系(P0.001),无节幼体密度构成了TLIc密度变动的限制因子,轮虫生物量成为TLIc生物量变动的限制因子,而剑水蚤是一类最重要、稳定的水质指示群落,这对于筛选浮游动物群落的一些拓展性监测指标具有重要的参考作用。  相似文献

Spatial and temporal patterns in the distribution of the zooplankton in a large tropical reservoir were investigated for a year. The zooplankton was sampled at 10 limnetic stations. Rotifera were richest in number of species and individuals, especially in transitional river–lake zones. They were dominant during the summer in nine sampling stations, and decreased in spring. The main species were Polyarthra vulgaris, Keratella americana, K. cochlearis and Conochilus unicornis. Polyarthra vulgaris was widely distributed. Keratella was more abundant at upstream stations, and a dense population of C. unicornis was observed in a lateral, sheltered compartment. Among copepods, Calanoida were more abundant in spring and Cyclopoida in autumn. Longitudinal gradients in the Calanoida/Cyclopoida relation were observed, with the predominance of Cyclopoida at upstream sampling stations and Calanoida in more lacustrine zones towards the dam. Notodiaptomus iheringi, Thermocyclops minutus and T. decipiens were the main species. Diaphanosoma birgei, the most abundant cladoceran, mainly occurred in lacustrine zones, while Moina minuta was more abundant at riverine sampling stations, generally in association with Bosminopsis deitersi. Peaks of tintinnid protozoans were observed in upstream zones during summer and spring.  相似文献

Copepods are important ecological indicators of ecosystem functioning. In this study, we analyzed the structure of copepod assemblages and cross-shelf patterns based on functional traits and indicator value analysis. Copepod samples were collected from 54 stations distributed along the inner, middle, and outer continental shelves covering a wide geographical area (20,100 km2). Overall, 38 species were identified: 20 Calanoida, 14 Cyclopoida, and 4 Harpacticoida. Copepod density was the highest in the inner shelf profile, with richness and diversity being higher on the outer shelf close to the shelf break. The results suggest that there is a gradient of zooplankton distribution even on narrow (<50 km) continental shelves. The cluster analysis of the stations showed a tendency to form three groups largely corresponding to physical location. Two major functional groups were identified, sorted by spawning strategy. These were subdivided according to the trophic regime and feeding strategy. Temora turbinata (alien species), Clausocalanus furcatus, and Ditrichocorycaeus amazonicus (native species) were found to be ecological indicators. These species have different functional traits and distinct cross-shelf distributions, where the alien species dominates the turbid coastal waters, and C. furcatus is an indicator of outer-shelf waters. Thus, these species can be considered ecological indicators of the different continental shelf waters. The results indicate that it is necessary to understand the functional diversity and ecological indicators of copepods, considering their importance for the basis of marine food webs.  相似文献

The copepod communities of karstic lakes along the eastern Adriatic coast were studied. Lakes were divided in several groups according to their morphology (deep, shallow, barrage and reservoirs), production (oligotrophic, mesotophic and eutrophic), and salinity of water: freshwater and brackish. Copidodiaptomus steueri, Eucyclops serrulatusand Macrocyclops albidus belong to the group that inhabited most of the lakes under the study, regardless of lake type. The shallow karstic lakes are usually inhabited by Thermocyclops dybowskii, T. oithonoides, Cyclops vicinus and Eudiaptomus padanus etruscus in freshwater biotopes, and Calanipedia aquaedulcis and Copidodiaptomus steueri in brackish biotopes. The last two species can also be found in deep karstic lakes with brackish water (Bacina lakes in the Neretva River delta). Species like Cyclops abyssorumcan be found in most deep freshwater lakes. Some Calanoida were recorded in only one lake, like Eudiaptomus transsylvanicusin the deep Lake Vrana on the island of Cres, or Eudiaptomus hadzici in the barrage Lake Visovac. Production of the lakes, expressed as copepod biomass, depends on lake trophy, and in some lakes also on hydrology and salinity. Most of the meso-eutrophic lakes in the study area had Calanoida dominating, while Cyclopoida dominated in some oligotrophic and eutrophic lakes as well.  相似文献

We recently reported the cDNA sequences of 11 copepod luciferases from the superfamily Augaptiloidea in the order Calanoida. They were classified into two groups, Metridinidae and Heterorhabdidae/Lucicutiidae families, by phylogenetic analyses. To elucidate the evolutionary processes, we have now further isolated 12 copepod luciferases from Augaptiloidea species (Metridia asymmetrica, Metridia curticauda, Pleuromamma scutullata, Pleuromamma xiphias, Lucicutia ovaliformis and Heterorhabdus tanneri). Codon-based synonymous/nonsynonymous tests of positive selection for 25 identified copepod luciferases suggested that positive Darwinian selection operated in the evolution of Heterorhabdidae luciferases, whereas two types of Metridinidae luciferases had diversified via neutral mechanism. By in silico analysis of the decoded amino acid sequences of 25 copepod luciferases, we inferred two protein sequences as ancestral copepod luciferases. They were expressed in HEK293 cells where they exhibited notable luciferase activity both in intracellular lysates and cultured media, indicating that the luciferase activity was established before evolutionary diversification of these copepod species.  相似文献

Adult somatic nuclear DNA contents are reported for eleven cyclopoid species (Megacyclops latipes, Mesocyclops edax, M. longisetus, M. ruttneri, M. leuckarti, M. woutersi, Macrocyclops albidus, Cyclops strenuus, Acanthocyclops robustus, Diothona oculata, Thermocyclops crassus) and for the harpacticoid Tigriopus californicus and range from 0.50 to 4.1 pg DNA per nucleus. These diploid genome sizes are consistent with previously published values for four Cyclops species (0.28–1.8 pg DNA per nucleus), but are strikingly smaller than those reported for marine calanoids (4.32–24.92 pg DNA per nucleus). We discuss three explanations, none of them exclusive of another, to account for the smaller size and range of cyclopoid genome sizes relative to calanoid genome sizes: (1) higher prevalence of chromatin diminution in the Cyclopoida, (2) phylogenetic structure or older age of the Calanoida relative to Cyclopoida and (3) nucleotypic selection that may influence life history variation and fitness. Measurements of genome size were made on Feulgen stained, somatic cell nuclei, using scanning microdensitometry which is well suited to the sparse and heterogeneous populations of copepod nuclei. The importance of measuring large numbers of nuclei per specimen, possible sources of variation associated with cytophotometric measurements, and appropriate use of internal reference standards and stoichiometry of the Feulgen stained nuclei are discussed.  相似文献

本文主要论述1980—1982年武汉东湖桡足类生物量及生产量的测算结果。三周年来在东湖Ⅰ、Ⅱ采样站上共观察到5种剑水蚤:广布中剑水蚤(Mesocyclops leuckarti)、近邻剑水蚤(Cyclops vicinus vicinus)、透明温剑水蚤(Thermocyclops hyalinus)、台湾温剑水蚤(Thermocyclops taihokuensis)、锯缘真剑水蚤(Eucyclops serrulatus)和5种哲水蚤:球状许水蚤(Schmackeria forbesi)特异荡镖水蚤(Neutrodiaptomus incongruens)、右突新鏢水蚤(Neodiaptomus schmackeria)、中华原鏢水蚤(Eodiaptomus sinensis)、汤匙华哲水蚤(Sinocalanus dorrii)。其总年平均生物量为321.74毫克干重/平方米。其中剑水蚤为194.70毫克干重/平方米,占60.51%;哲水蚤为127.04毫克干重/平方米,占39.49%。总年生产量为16.959克干重/平方米。其中剑水蚤为11.225克干重/平方米,占66.19%;哲水蚤为5.734克干重/平方米,占33.81%。年P/B比为52.55;其中剑水蚤为57.63,哲水蚤为46.02。各发育阶段的年平均生物量以桡足幼体最高,其次为无节幼体,卵最低。年生产量则以无节幼体最高,其次为桡足幼体,卵最低。从各种类所占总年平均生物量、年生产量的百分比值来看,广布中剑水蚤的比值最大,其次为球状许水蚤、近邻剑水蚤和特异荡鏢水蚤。    相似文献

We investigated the population dynamics of Copidodiaptomus numidicus (Copepoda: Calanoida) and Thermocyclops dybowskii (Copepoda: Cyclopoida) in Castelo-do-Bode Reservoir (Portugal). Both species in the reservoir were regulated mainly by food availability during the summers of 1993 and 1994. C. numidicus was always more abundant than T. dybowskii in the reservoir. C. numidicus produced two generations during the sampling period of both years whereas T. dybowskii produced two and three generations in 1993 and 1994, respectively. Because of high temperatures and low rainfall in 1994, the reservoir was more eutrophic than in 1993. Higher clutch size and a higher percentage of ovigerous females suggest that both species were benefiting from better feeding conditions in 1994. Despite this, population growth was reduced in 1994 relatively to 1993. Vertebrate predation and predation by copepods seem to have been minor factors in explaining this decline. However, the presence of Mesostoma sp. in the reservoir may have contributed to the reduction of both copepod populations during specific periods in 1994 although the calanoid was more affected than the cyclopoid by this predation.  相似文献

So far mainly sporadic studies have been made on the freshwater zooplankton of this region. We studied material from Costa Rica, Cuba, Bahamas, El Salvador, Haiti and Trinidad and listed unpublished species data from Jamaica. In all 183 species of Rotifera; 104 of Cladocera; 64 Calanoida and Cyclopoida and a few Ostracoda are known from the region which includes Central America, the Caribbean Islands from the Bahamas to Trinidad and the islands off South America and Central America. Records from individual countries are generally low except for Cuban Cladocera and Copepoda. The total number of Copepoda and Cladocera recorded for the whole regions appears to be reasonably comprehensive. Daphnia is rare or absent from the equatorial regions and it is likely that the low species diversity may be due partly to the lack of a range of habitat types.  相似文献

Community structure and diversity patterns of pelagic copepods were investigated for the coastal areas and in the marine lakes of the Palau islands in the West Pacific. We conducted field surveys during 2004–2007 and collected zooplankton samples from eight coastal areas and 16 marine lakes. The marine lakes in the islands of Palau are limnologically classified into two types, meromictic and holomictic lakes. Species diversity indices (Margalef’s species richness d′, Shannon–Wiener index H′, and Simpson’s dominance) were measured at each sampling site. The copepod community structure was analyzed using multivariate analyses, hierarchical cluster analysis, and non-metric multidimensional scaling (MDS) from the PRIMER package. A total of 36 copepod taxa were identified to the genus or species level from Calanoida, Cyclopoida, Harpacticoida, and Poecilostomatoida. Multivariate analysis based on the Bray–Curtis similarity index revealed that copepod assemblages could be classified into three different groups according to their habitat: (I) meromictic lakes, (II) holomictic lakes with an exceptionally shallow and flat basin (type A holomictic lakes), (III) holomictic lakes with a deep basin (type B holomictic lakes), and all coastal areas. The meromictic lakes were characterized by markedly decreased species diversity (d′ = 0.15, H′ = 0.41) in which only two brackish-water species, Bestiolina similis and Oithona dissimilis, were dominant. Type A holomictic lakes were characterized by relatively low levels of species diversity (d′ = 1.25, H′ = 1.35). In contrast, type B holomictic lakes were characterized by relatively high levels of species diversity, which was comparable to that of coastal areas. This result indicated that zooplankton assemblages in the type B holomictic lakes were closely related to a coastal community. The present study showed that the species diversity of pelagic copepods varies according to the level of isolation and the local environmental conditions for each marine lake.  相似文献

We examined the effects of food and light on the swimming behavior of nauplii of the cyclopoid Apocyclops royi (Lindberg, 1940) (Copepoda: Cyclopoida) and the calanoid Pseudodiaptomus annandalei Sewell, 1919 (Copepoda: Calanoida). Several behavioral parameters such as swimming patterns, speed, and trajectories exhibited distinct ontogenetic differences between the two species. When algae Isochrysis galbana (Haptophyta: Isochrysidales) were offered as food to the nauplii of A. royi, they showed fast circle swimming behavior, while nauplii of P. annandalei never exhibited such behavior, neither with, nor without algae. The different behavioral patterns between the nauplii of both species suggest they both have different foraging strategies in detecting and capturing food.  相似文献

Dormancy affects copepods in their anatomy, physiology, genetics, population biology, community ecology, evolution and local and geographic distribution. It is known from freeliving representatives of three copepod taxa, namely the Harpacticoida, Cyclopoida and Calanoida. Species showing dormancy occur in various realms and habitats, both freshwater and marine, being benthic, planktic or ice-dwelling. Depending on the taxon, dormancy occurs at various times of the year, prevailing in higher and temperate latitudes. Copepod dormancy is expressed in various ontogenetic stages, such as resting eggs, arrested larval development, juvenile and adult encystment, or arrested development of nonencysted copepodids or adults. Ecologically, dormancy is an energy saving trait, allowing the individual to bridge periods of environmental harshness. Adverse environmental conditions could be abiotic (e.g. desiccation, temperature, oxygen availability) or biotic in nature (e.g. food availability, predation). Diapause s. str. is initiated, maintained and terminated by triggering factors (e.g. photoperiod, temperature, chemical cues, population density/physiological factors). The dormant state and emergence patterns directly affect reproduction, population dynamics, community composition, coexistence and distribution of copepods, as well as the phenology of their predators and living food items. Populations having dormancy, in most cases belong to and affect communities of two realms: the water column and the bottom. Dormant stages may provide means for dispersal as well as for staying in special localities. The variability of dormancy permits flexible and complex life histories. Dormancy is subjected to and on the other hand affects copepod evolution.  相似文献

Copepods are the dominant taxa in zooplankton communities of the ocean worldwide. Although bioluminescence of certain copepods has been known for more than a 100 years, there is very limited information about the structure and evolutionary history of copepod luciferase genes. Here, we report the cDNA sequences of 11 copepod luciferases isolated from the superfamily Augaptiloidea in the order Calanoida. Highly conserved amino acid residues in two similar repeat sequences were confirmed by the multiple alignment of all known copepod luciferases. Copepod luciferases were classified into two groups of Metridinidae and Heterorhabdidae/Lucicutiidae families based on phylogenetic analyses, with confirmation of the interrelationships within the Calanoida using 18S ribosomal DNA sequences. The large diversity in the specific activity of planktonic homogenates and copepod luciferases that we were able to express in mammalian cultured cells illustrates the importance of bioluminescence as a protective function against predators. We also discuss the relationship between the evolution of copepod bioluminescence and the aspects of their ecological characteristics, such as swimming activity and vertical habitat.  相似文献
