The efficiency of strategic and strategic/selective applications of flumethrin spray formulation for controlling ticks were assessed, respectively, in two groups of fourteen N'Dama cattle (Group S and Group S/S) by comparison of the number of feeding ticks with thirteen untreated N'Dama cattle (Group U) over a period of 11 months (June 1996 to April 1997). During the expected peak of tick abundance, acaricide was applied fortnightly on the whole body in animals in Group S and only on the most infested body areas in cattle in Group S/S. Weight changes and skin lesions, directly associated with tick attachment, were recorded in cattle in the three groups. The costs of the two tick control schemes were estimated. Maximum level of ticks, all species together, feeding on cattle was observed in the rainy season. Both in Group S/S and Group S, cattle carried a lower (P < 0.001) number of feeding ticks than animals in Group U over the whole study period. Percentage of tick control, over the entire period of tick investigation, was satisfactory in both acaricide-treated groups, reaching 61.2 and 75.2% in Groups S/S and S, respectively. However, the proportion of control varied according to tick species or genus. Significantly lower prevalence of skin lesions was observed on the ano-genital and udder region in cattle in Group S/S (P < 0.05) and Group S (P < 0.01) in comparison with cattle in Group U. Mean amount of acaricide solution used and relative estimated cost of treatment in cattle in Group S/S were, respectively, 25- and 14-fold lower than those in cattle in Group S. At the end of the study, animals in Groups S/S and S were, respectively, 7.2 and 15.9 kg heavier than animals in Group U. The difference was statistically significant (P < 0.02) only between Groups S and U. However, the efficiency, low cost and derived benefits of the strategic/selective acaricide application scheme indicated that it might be the most cost effective.  相似文献

A study of polymorphisms of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) of West African N'Dama (Bos taurus) and East African Zebu (B. indicus) cattle was carried out to obtain information on maternal phylogenetic relationships between these breeds. A relatively large sample size was made possible by using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification of DNA prepared from small blood samples to generate fragments of two known polymorphic mtDNA regions, one within the gene encoding subunit 5 of NADH dehydrogenase and one encompassing the entire D-loop. This approach allowed us to achieve a higher resolution restriction analysis on mtDNA from more animals than would have been possible by conventional methods. PCR-amplified mtDNA of 58 animals from five populations was examined at 26 restriction sites by 16 enzymes. In this way 154 nucleotides of mtDNA were scanned for polymorphism. Six polymorphic sites were located by this means, five of which were within the D-loop and one of which was within the NADH dehydrogenase 5 gene. None of the polymorphisms observed could be con sidered typical of breed or type.  相似文献

Strongyle infection is an important issue in horse breeding. It impairs horse health and performance, with young horses being the most sensitive. Strongyle control has long relied on the systematic use of chemical treatments. However, expanding anthelmintic resistance among strongyles calls for alternative options. Mixed grazing is assumed to reduce strongyle load on the pasture as the result of a dilution effect. This has been shown in small ruminants grazing with cattle, but the putative benefits of co-grazing between horses and cattle have not yet been evaluated. Here, we conducted field surveys and face-to-face interviews on 44 farms from two contrasted saddle-horse production areas, Normandy and northern Massif Central, to compare equine strongyle management practices between specialized systems and mixed horse-cattle systems. Our goals were (i) to quantify breeders’ awareness of the putative benefits associated with the co-grazing of horses and cattle, (ii) to establish whether mixed farming was associated with different strongyle management strategies and (iii) to test whether strongyle egg excretion was reduced in horses grazed with beef cattle. Every breeder relied on systematic calendar treatments, and only 8 out of the 23 mixed breeders were aware that co-grazing of horses with cattle could be used as part of their strongyle control strategy. Management practices were similar across both systems in Normandy. In Massif Central, mixed breeders formed a distinct cluster from their specialized counterparts: deworming was less frequent and stocking density was higher in mixed farms, while specialized breeders seemed more willing to integrate herd and plot management into control strategies. Faecal egg counts measured in horses from Massif Central were significantly reduced when horses were grazed with cattle. This was the result of an increased reliance on macrocyclic lactones in mixed farms (P < 0.01) and a significant dilution effect (P < 0.01). When considering a subsample of horses treated with macrocyclic lactones only, young horses grazed with cattle had 50% fewer strongyle eggs excreted in their faeces than horses grazed in equine-only pastures (P < 0.01). This is the first evidence of the benefits of mixed grazing with cattle as an alternative to control strongyle infection in horses, although this promising alternative remains largely unknown by horse breeders.  相似文献

A total of 146 East African Zebu, 41 Zebu-Hereford crosses and 24 Ayrshire-Norwegian Red Cattle crosses have been investigated with cattle red cell reagents characterizing blood factors in eleven systems. With a battery of 36 selected reagents the average number of blood factors in Zebu was 20.1 which differs significantly from the average of 12.5 in the Ayrshire crosses. Factor frequencies for the A, C and S systems and gene frequencies for the F, L, M, Z, R' and T' systems are presented. The B system factors in four Zebu bulls could be grouped into eight different phenogroups by utilizing the blood types of dam-offspring pairs.  相似文献

Suckled postpartum Zebu (Bos indicus) cows were exposed either to estrous females alone or together with bulls to determine if this regimen would stimulate the resumption of ovarian activity. The study was carried out on 60 Zebu cows. The animals were allocated at parturition to 1 of 3 treatment groups. Group FB cows (n = 14) were exposed to progestogen treated females (approximately 3 cows per progestogen treated cow) and a bull for 42 d. Group F cows (n = 31) were exposed to progestogen treated females and after 21 d a bull was introduced and remained with the group until the end of the experiment 21 d later. Estrus was induced with Syncro Mate B treatment and the cows were in estrus when introduced into Groups FB and F. Group N cows (n = 15) were introduced to a bull 21 d after the treatments had begun in Groups FB and F, and the bull remained with these cows until the end of the study. On average, resumption of ovarian activity occurred in 57% (8/14), 19% (6/31) and 7% (1/15) of the cows in Group FB, F and N, respectively, within 21 d after the start of treatments. The difference was significant between Group FB and Groups F and N (P < 0.05). During the second part of the experiment, in which the bull was introduced to Groups F and N, an additional 32% (10/31) of the cows in Group F and 33% (5/15) in Group N resumed ovarian activity. No cows in Group FB resumed ovarian activity during this period. There were significant differences in body condition between cows that resumed ovarian activity and those that remained in anestrus (P < 0.05). We conclude that biostimulation effectively enhanced resumption of ovarian activity in anestrous suckled Zebu cows. This technique offers a potentially useful and practical way to improve reproductive efficiency in anestrous Zebu cattle in the tropics.  相似文献

Specific RIA systems were developed and used to measure pregnancy-associated glycoprotein (PAG) concentrations during gestation and the postpartum period in Azawak Zebu cows. Twelve females were palpated per rectum and diagnosed as pregnant. Blood samples were taken at 5-10-day intervals from approximately Week 8 of gestation until Week 10 postpartum (pp). One Zebu cow (Z15) initially diagnosed as pregnant showed PAG concentrations lower than the assay sensitivity (<0.20 ng/ml) and did not calve. Another cow (ZSand) showed abnormally high PAG concentrations during gestation and was excluded from the general PAG profile. The 10 other Zebu cows exhibited a very similar PAG profile. In these animals, concentrations increased progressively from Week 8 to 35 of gestation (from 6.0+/-4.2 to 196.0+/-34.8 ng/ml), remaining relatively constant until Week 39 (210.8+/-74.8 ng/ml), when they increased sharply to reach their highest level (1095.6+/-607.2 ng/ml) at around parturition. After delivery, PAG concentrations declined significantly (P<0.05) until Week 2 postpartum (348.4+/-85.6 ng/ml) and slowly until Week 10 postpartum. Our results revealed that the PAG pattern in Zebu cattle was similar to those of taurine breeds during the first two trimesters of pregnancy, but differed in the peripartum period.  相似文献

The accurate estimation of protein requirements for beef cattle is a key factor in increasing livestock profitability and decreasing the environmental impacts of excessive N excretion due to mismatching between assumed requirements and diet formulation. A meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate and validate a new equation to predict the net protein requirements for growth (NPg) of Zebu beef cattle. For the development of the new approach, a database of 552 observations comprised of bulls, steers, and heifers of different genetic groups (Zebu, beef crossbreed, and dairy crossbreed) was assembled. The new approach was evaluated and compared to current models devised by the international nutrient requirements system committees (Agricultural Research Council, 1980; Beef Cattle Nutrient Requirements Model, 2016; BR-CORTE, 2016) to predict NPg. The model evaluation was performed through the model evaluation system (version 3.1.16) using an independent data set (n = 177 observations). An equation was considered the best estimator of NPg if the following conditions were met: (1) the intercept and slope of the regression between ordinary residues and/or predicted NPg values must have been equal to zero and one, respectively; and (2) the greatest concordance correlation coefficient (CCC) and determination coefficient (R), and lowest mean squared error of prediction (MSEP) were attained. Based on the regression models of the observed v. predicted NPg of Zebu beef cattle, both the new approach and that of the ARC (1980) correctly estimated NPg, since the intercept and slope were not different (P > 0.05) from zero and one, respectively. Additionally, the new approach’s determination coefficient was the greatest and the closest to one. The fact that the new model achieved a higher CCC and lower MSEP than the existing models indicated its superior reproducibility and accuracy. The equations proposed by BR-CORTE (2016) and the BCNRM (2016) did not correctly estimate NPg in that the intercept and slope were different (P < 0.01) from zero and one, respectively. Thus, the equations proposed by the new approach and the ARC (1980) accurately and precisely estimated NPg and are recommended for Zebu cattle. Furthermore, the inclusion of equivalent empty BW (EQEBW) in the new approach improves the estimation of NPg. We suggest the use of the following equation to calculate NPg for Zebu beef cattle: NPg = 176.01 × EBG – 0.381 × EQEBW0.75 × EBG1.035 (R = 0.80 and CCC = 0.75); where NPg = net protein requirements for growth, EBG = empty body gain, and EQEBW = equivalent empty BW.  相似文献

The responses of susceptible Ndama and Zebu cattle to needle challenge with Trypanosoma congolense were followed using parasitological, haematological and radio-isotopic methods and compared with those of corresponding uninfected animals. In both breeds, infection became patent at the same time but peak parasitaemias were significantly lower, were attained later and were of short duration in the Ndama. All infected animals became anaemic, the severity of which correlated with the level and duration of parasitaemia. However, even when parasites could no longer be detected in the blood, packed cell volumes showed little tendency to recover. The anaemia was due to increased intravascular red cell destruction and was more pronounced in the Zebu. Haemodilution was not a feature. Increased red cell syntheisis occurred in infected animals of both breeds but particularly in the Zebu; this accounted for the capacity to maintain packed cell volume levels following the initial drop associated with parasitaemia. However, in most cases red cell synthesis was less than expected from the degree of anaemia, suggesting impairment of bone marrow function. Measurement of red cell iron utilization indicated that this was due to effective from re-utilization from degraded red cells arising from reticulo-endothelial blockade. It is concluded that the anaemia in this disease and its underlying processes are broadly in line with the number of parasites in the blood and that the superior resistance of the Ndama cattle lies in their ability to control parasitaemia rather than their capacity to mount a more efficient erythropoietic response.  相似文献

The location of Zebu, British, and Zebu x British cattle in tick-infested plots from March through September 1986 was compared with the location of Amblyomma americanum L. in the same plots. In April, May, and June, Zebu cattle spent less time (9.3-19.4%) in tick-infested quadrats than British (44.4-63.9%) or Zebu-British (49.0-69.3%) cattle. In the same months, the probability that A. americanum would contact Zebu cattle (1.5-19.6%) was significantly lower than for British (34.7-41.7%) or Zebu-British (30.2-56.9%) cattle. In April, May, June, and September, the probability that A. americanum detaching from cattle would drop into a quadrat presumed to be habitable for ticks was significantly lower for Zebu cattle (4.0-29.9%) than for British (64.9-72.6%) or Zebu-British (48.1-78.7%) cattle.  相似文献

This experiment was designed to compare powdered egg yolk with fresh egg yolk in an extender for cryopreservation of Zebu bull semen. Sperm motility, plasma membrane integrity and viability were assessed at different stages of cryopreservation (post-dilution, pre-freezing and post-thawing). Sperm plasma membrane integrity remained similar at all the stages of cryopreservation. Sperm motility and viability were significantly higher after thawing in the extender containing powdered egg yolk. In conclusion, powdered egg yolk may be used in an extender for the cryopreservation of Zebu bull spermatozoa.  相似文献

The accurate supply of energy is essential to optimize livestock productivity and profitability. Furthermore, replacing empty BW gain (EBG) with carcass gain (CG) might be a suitable alternative to estimate the retained energy (RE) of beef cattle. Thus, this multi-analysis study was conducted aiming to estimate and validate new equations to predict carcass weight (CW), EBG, and RE of Zebu, beef crossbred, and dairy crossbred. A database composed by 1 112 animals encompassing bulls, steers, heifers of different genetic groups (Zebu, beef crossbred, and dairy crossbred), and two types of slaughter plants (commercial and experimental) was used for generating the new CW equation. For the development of the EBG and RE equations, a database of 636 observations composed of bulls, steers, and heifers of different genetic groups (Zebu, beef crossbred, and dairy crossbred) was assembled. The validation of new equations was performed using independent databases composed by 137 observations (80 for CW and 57 for EBG and RE). The new approaches for EBG and RE validation also included data from our research group studies (Inside) and independent data from literature publications (Outside). Furthermore, the new RE equation was compared to the current model devised by the nutritional requirements, diet formulation, and performance prediction of Zebu and crossbred cattle (BR-CORTE, 2016). Validation analyses were performed by using the Model Evaluation System (MES; 3.1.13, College Station, US). The CW was accurately estimated by the new equation when using both commercial and experimental data. Also, the equations developed in this study accurately estimated EBG and RE using both inside and outside data. In conclusion, equations proposed in this study accurately and precisely estimated CW, EBG, and RE of Zebu beef cattle that composed validation data set. Therefore, we suggest the following equations to estimate CW, EBG, and RE of Zebu cattle: CW, kg = − 11.0±1.56 + P + ((0.609±0.005 + G + B) × SBW); EBG (kg) = 0.044±0.017 + 1.47±0.026 × CG; RE (MJ/d) = 4.184 × (0.082±0.002 × EQEBW0.75 × CG0.777±0.039), where P = slaughter plant effect, if commercial = − 10.98, if experimental = 0; G = gender effect, if steer = 0, if bull = 0.008169 and if heifer = − 0.00612; B = genotype effect, if Zebu = 0, if dairy crossbreds = − 0.03301 and if beef crossbreds = − 0.01595; SBW = shrunk BW; CG = carcass gain; EQEBW = equivalent empty BW.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to evaluate the utilization of gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) as part of a superovulatory regimen for Zebu cattle. Forty Zebu cows were superovulated with 40 mg of follicle stimulating hormone-pituitary (FSH-P) divided in eight fractions of 5 mg injected at 12-h intervals. Luteolysis was induced with 15 mg of luprostiol injected at 48 h after the first injection of FSH-P. Half of the animals were injected with 200 ug of GnRH 3 h after the onset of standing estrus. The other 20 animals were not injected with GnRH. All the cows were inseminated three times at 12-h intervals, starting at the time of standing estrus. Embryos were recovered nonsurgically 7 d after the last insemination. Palpation per rectum performed immediately after collection of the embryos did not show differences in the number of corpora lutea between groups (P > 0.05). Likewise, there were no significant differences between treatments with respect to the total number of embryos plus ova, total number of embryos, or the number of transferable embryos recovered (P>0.05). The number of blastocysts, morulae, degenerated morulae and unfertilized ova was similar for the two groups. It is concluded that the incorporation of GnRH into a part of the superovulatory treatment for Zebu cattle does not improve the results of such treatment.  相似文献

A test to evaluate the degree of patency of the cervical canal was carried out on 260 Zebu x Brown Swiss cows and heifers that were assigned for non-surgical recovery or transfer of embryos. A total of 204 females (78.5%) were found to have a patent cervix (P <0.05), compared with 56 (21.5%) which had a blockage or obstruction when an attempt was made to pass a catheter through the cervical canal or the "cervical knot" of the purebred and cross-bred Zebu cows. A smaller percentage (12.89%) of non-patent cervices (P <0.05) were detected in multiparas, compared with 25 and 27.5% in primiparas and nullipara, respectively. The test for cervical patency is carried out on Bos indicus cattle to screen the animals before non-surgical embryo transfer manipulations and to attain better results in the application of non-surgical recovery and transfer of embryos.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of age of calf on the behaviour of Zebu and crossbred calves during restricted suckling (RS) periods. The behaviours of 20 Zebu and 16 crossbred calves were recorded during two 30-min sessions each day after milking when the calves and their dams were brought together in a group for suckling. This was made for a time period of 2 weeks/month for 6 months postpartum. The total suckling duration was significantly longer in Zebu calves (11.8+/-0.19 min) compared to the crossbred calves (9.4+/-0.19 min), but decreased significantly in both breeds with increasing age from 1 to 6 months. The number of suckling bouts decreased from a mean of 3.8 at 1 month of age to 1.1 at 6 month (P<0.05). The duration of each suckling bout decreased significantly from a mean of 3.5+/-0.15 min at 1 month of age to 1.6+/-0.01 min at 6 months (<0.05). The frequency of crossbred calves cross-suckling (3.7%) was significantly higher than that of the Zebu calves (1.9%; P<0.05). The frequency of calves cross-suckling decreased significantly from 4.2% at 1 month of age to 2.3% at 6 months. The duration and number of bouts of cross-suckling was significantly higher in the crossbred calves (duration 0.9+/-0.06 min; bouts 3, 7) than in the Zebu calves (duration 0.5+/-0.06 min; bouts 2, 7) and decreased with increasing age of calf. The duration and number of bouts of inter-sucking was significantly higher in the crossbred calves (duration 0.6+/-0.07 min; bouts 1, 6) than in the Zebu calves (duration 0.1+/-0.04 min; bouts 0, 5) and decreased with increasing age of calf. Exploration increased in duration as the calves increased in age from 1 to 6 months (P<0.05). The duration of play increased significantly with the increase in age of calf from 1 to 6 months, and occurred mainly after nursing.  相似文献

Anthelmintic drugs have been applied indiscriminately to control horse nematodes for over 40 years. We undertook a comprehensive study to investigate efficacy of the four available broad-spectrum anthelmintic drugs on 16 Thoroughbred stud farms using the faecal egg count reduction test. Efficacy against strongyles was determined by calculating the percentage of reduction in faecal egg count between the group mean at Day 0 and Days 14–17 post-treatment and the 95% lower confidence intervals estimated by non-parametric bootstrapping. Individual strongyle faecal egg count reduction tests (n = 429) were performed in which 179, 131, 89 and 30 horses were administered ivermectin, moxidectin, pyrantel and fenbendazole, respectively. Moxidectin was efficacious in all tests (faecal egg count reduction range: 99.8–100%; 95% lower confidence intervals range: 96.8–100%) and reduced efficacy of ivermectin (faecal egg count reduction range: 85.7–100%; 95% lower confidence intervals range: 65–100%) was observed in one group of yearlings. Reduced pyrantel efficacy was observed in five groups of yearlings (faecal egg count reduction range: 0–73%; 95% lower confidence intervals range: 0–59.5%), but pyrantel was found to be efficacious when administered to mares (faecal egg count reduction range: 98–99.4%; 95% lower confidence intervals range: 91.8–99.3%). Low efficacy of fenbendazole was always observed (faecal egg count reduction range: 0.4–41%; 95% lower confidence intervals not calculable). Two further methods for estimating efficacy were applied and outputs obtained using all methodologies were in agreement. Efficacy against Parascaris equorum was assessed on four farms: fenbendazole had acceptable efficacy (faecal egg count reduction range: 97.5–99.9%; 95% lower confidence intervals range: 96.3–99.1%), but reduced efficacy of ivermectin was observed (faecal egg count reduction range: 25.5–91.2%; 95% lower confidence intervals range: 6.7–82.4%). Strongyle faecal egg count were analysed at approximately 2 week intervals for up to 12 weeks after anthelmintic drug administration to determine the egg reappearance period for moxidectin, ivermectin and pyrantel. The egg reappearance period for all three anthelmintic drugs was shorter than previously observed. Overall, our results indicate that ivermectin and moxidectin administration provided acceptable efficacy at 14 days; however, egg reappearance period results suggest that these products are working less effectively than measured previously. As shortened egg reappearance period is believed to be an early indicator of resistance, this highlights the issue of impending multi-drug resistance in strongyles on stud farms.  相似文献

Teneral Glossina morsitans centralis Machado were fed on the flanks of the African buffalo (Syncerus caffer Sparrman), N'Dama (Bos taurus L.) or Boran (Bos indicus L.) cattle infected with Trypanosoma congolense Broden. The infected tsetse were maintained on rabbits and on day 30 after the infected feed, the surviving tsetse were dissected to determine the infection rates. The mean infection rates (% +/- SE) in the midgut of tsetse fed on buffalo, N'Damas and Borans were 23.5 +/- 3.3, 31.6 +/- 2.7 and 33.7 +/- 4.6, respectively. The differences were not significant. However, the mean mature infection rate in tsetse fed on the buffalo (13.2 +/- 2.1%) was significantly lower compared to the rates in tsetse fed on the N'Dama (20.4 +/- 1.4) or the Boran cattle (21.4 +/- 1.1). When groups of teneral G.m.centralis, G.pallidipes Austen, G.p.gambiensis Vanderplank, G.f.fuscipes Newstead, G.brevipalpis Newstead and G.longipennis Corti were fed simultaneously on either an infected buffalo, an N'Dama or a Boran steer, the mature infection rates ranged from 0 to 16.1%. Irrespective of the host species used, the T.congolense infection rate was highest in G.m.centralis, lowest in the palpalis and fusca group tsetse, with G.pallidipes being intermediate. Nevertheless, the trypanoresistant African buffalo and N'Dama may serve as reservoirs of T.congolense as can trypanosusceptible Boran cattle.  相似文献

Data on reproduction, liveweight and trypanosome infection of N'Dama cattle raised under traditional husbandry systems in The Gambia were analyzed to quantify the relative effects of postpartum liveweight change and infection with pathogenic trypanosomes on 2 parameters of reproductive efficiency: the ability to calve within 21 months after the initial parturition and the length of the calving interval. Information for the study was obtained from a database on an epidemiological survey begun in 1985 in The Gambia. Calving records (n=294) from 3 locations were classified on the basis of body weight change and prevalence of trypanosome infection between 1 and 4 months postpartum. Least-squares analyses adjusted for effects of location, season of calving, viability of calf, and parity showed that the proportion of cows that calved within 21 months was 50% for cows which maintained or lost less than 5% of the initial postpartum weight and 31% for cows which lost a higher percentage of weight. Corresponding mean calving intervals were 567 and 666 days, respectively (P<0.05). With regard to trypanosome infection, 49% of uninfected cows and 32% of infected cows (P<0.05) calved again within 21 months, with calving intervals of 581 and 651 days, respectively (P<0.05). The interaction between liveweight change and trypanosome infection status was not significant. Furthermore, the findings suggest that while postpartum body weight loss impairs reproductive performance, trypanosome infection does likewise, and these effects may act independently of each other.  相似文献

Wild African elephants (Loxodonta africana) are commonly infected with intestinal strongyle parasites. Our objective was to determine baseline fecal strongyle egg counts for elephants in the northeast region of Etosha National Park, Namibia and determine if these numbers were affected by annual rainfall, elephant demography (age of individuals and composition of groups), and hormonal state of males. We found that matriarchal family group members have significantly higher fecal egg counts than male elephants (bulls). Among family group members, strongyle egg counts increased with age, whereas among bulls, strongyle egg counts decreased with age. Years of higher rainfall were correlated with decreased numbers of strongyle eggs among bulls. Finally, bulls were not affected by their physiologic (hormonal) status (musth vs. nonmusth). These results suggest that infection by strongyle parasites in Namibian African elephants is a dynamic process affected by intrinsic and extrinsic factors including host demography and rainfall.  相似文献

Our objective was to estimate Bos primigenius taurus introgression in American Zebu cattle. One hundred and four American Zebu (Nellore) cattle were submitted to mtDNA, microsatellite and satellite analysis. Twenty-three alleles were detected in microsatellite analysis, averaging 4.6 ± 1.82/locus. Variance component comparisons of microsatellite allele sizes allowed the construction of two clusters separating taurus and indicus. No significant variation was observed when indicus and taurus mtDNA were compared. Three possible genotypes of 1711b satellite DNA were identified. All European animals showed the same restriction pattern, suggesting a Zebu-specific restriction pattern. The frequencies of B. primigenius indicus-specific microsatellite alleles and 1711b satellite DNA restriction patterns lead to an estimate of 14% taurine contribution in purebred Nellore.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate whether Zebu (Bos indicus) and crossbred (Bos indicusxBos taurus) cows differ in maternal related behaviour during restricted group suckling. The behaviours of 20 Zebu and 16 crossbred cows were recorded during two 30min sessions each day after milking when their calves were present for suckling, for a time period of 2 weeks per month for 6 months postpartum. The main activity in both breeds during the 0.5h observation sessions was suckling. However, the two breeds differed significantly in several behavioural aspects. The Zebu cows had longer total duration of suckling than the crossbred cows, per 30min session, 11.8 and 9.4min, respectively. The separate suckling bouts were longer in the Zebu cows (2.8min in Zebu and 2.3min in crossbred) and this breed also had more suckling bouts than the crossbred per session, 3.8 and 3.2, respectively. Zebu cows stayed in close contact with their calves for longer time and directed more agonistic actions against alien calves and cows than the crossbred cows.  相似文献
