The purpose of this study was to determine whether delaying bedtime or advancing rising time by 4 h affects anaerobic performance of individuals the following day in the morning and afternoon. Eleven subjects participated in the study, during which we measured the maximal, peak, and mean powers (i.e., P max [force‐velocity test], P peak, and P mean [Wingate test], respectively). Measurements were performed twice daily, at 07∶00 and 18∶00 h, following a reference normal sleep night (RN), a partial sleep deprivation timed at the beginning of the night (SDB), and a partial sleep deprivation timed at the end of the night (SDE), and oral temperature was measured every 4 h. Each of the three experimental conditions was separated by a one‐week period. Our results showed a circadian rhythm in oral temperature, and analysis of variance revealed a significant sleep×test‐time effect on peak power (P peak), mean power (P mean), and maximal power (P max). These variables improved significantly from the morning to the afternoon for all three experimental conditions. Whereas the morning‐afternoon improvement in the measures was similar after the RN and SDB conditions, it was smaller following the SDE condition. There was no significant difference in the effect of the two sleep‐deprivation conditions on anaerobic performances at 07∶00 and at 18∶00 h under the SDB condition in comparison with the post‐reference night. However, the performance variables were significantly lower at 18∶00 h after the SDE condition. In conclusion, a 4 h partial sleep deprivation at the end of the night appears to be more disturbing than partial sleep deprivation at the beginning of the night. 相似文献

The aim of this study was to examine the supposed influence of pedal rate on the diurnal fluctuation of the time to exhaustion from high‐intensity exercise. Eleven male cyclists performed three tests at 06:00 h and three at 18:00 h at a free pedal rate (FPR) and two imposed pedal rates (80% and 120% of the FPR). They performed the tests until exhaustion using a power output corresponding to 95% maximal power (P max). Time to exhaustion, rectal temperature, oxygen consumption (V˙O 2), M. quadriceps, vastus medialis, M. biceps femoris electromyographic Root Mean Square activity rise (RMS slope), and blood lactate concentration were measured. The mean time to exhaustion recorded at 18:00 h (270.6±104.8 sec) was greater than at 06:00 h (233.9±84.9 sec). The time to exhaustion was significantly greater when the pedal rate was imposed at 80% versus 120% FPR. The blood lactate concentration and absolute core temperature at the point of exhaustion were significantly higher during tests done at 18:00 h. There was no diurnal variation in core temperature increase, V˙O 2, and RMS slope. The time‐of‐day effect for every variable did not depend on pedal rate. Diurnal variations in maximal aerobic endurance cannot be explained by a change in aerobic metabolism or in muscular fatigue. The origin of the diurnal variation in the time to exhaustion is likely to lie in greater participation in anaerobic metabolism. Also, the influence of temperature on neuromuscular functioning as an explanation for the diurnal variation in performance cannot be excluded in this study. The hypothesis on the basis of which pedal rate would influence diurnal variations in time to exhaustion in cycling was not validated by this research. 相似文献

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of time of day on aerobic contribution during high‐intensity exercise. A group of 11 male physical education students performed a Wingate test against a resistance of 0.087 kg · kg ?1 body mass. Two different times of day were chosen, corresponding to the minimum (06:00 h) and the maximum (18:00 h) levels of power. Oxygen uptake (V˙O 2) was recorded breath by breath during the test (30 sec). Blood lactate concentrations were measured at rest, just after the Wingate test, and again 5 min later. Oral temperature was measured before each test and on six separate occasions at 02:00, 06:00, 10:00, 14:00, 18:00, and 22:00 h. A significant circadian rhythm was found in body temperature with a circadian acrophase at 18:16±00:25 h as determined by cosinor analysis. Peak power (P peak), mean power (P mean), total work done, and V˙O 2 increased significantly from morning to afternoon during the Wingate Test. As a consequence, aerobic contribution recorded during the test increased from morning to afternoon. However, no difference in blood lactate concentrations was observed from morning to afternoon. Furthermore, power decrease was greater in the morning than afternoon. Altogether, these results indicate that the time‐of‐day effect on performances during the Wingate test is mainly due to better aerobic participation in energy production during the test in the afternoon than in the morning. 相似文献

The aim of this study was to examine the time‐of‐day (TOD) effects in myoelectric and mechanical properties of muscle during a maximal and prolonged isokinetic exercise. Twelve male subjects were asked to perform 50 maximal voluntary contractions (MVC) of the knee extensor muscles at a constant angular velocity of 2.09 rad · sec ?1, at 06∶00 and 18∶00 h. Torque and electromyographic (EMG) parameters were recorded for each contraction, and the ratio between these values was calculated to evaluate variations of the neuromuscular efficiency (NME) with fatigue and with TOD. The results indicated that maximal torque values (T 45Max) was significantly higher (7.73%) in the evening than in the morning ( p<0.003). The diurnal variation in torque decrease was used to define two phases. During the first phase (1st to the 26th repetition), torque values decreased fast and values were higher in the evening than in the morning, and during the second phase (27th to the 50th repetition), torque decreased slightly and reached a floor value that appeared constant with TOD. The EMG parameters (Root Mean Square; RMS) were modified with fatigue, but were not TOD dependent. The NME decrease–significantly with fatigue, showing that peripheral factors were mainly involved in the torque decrease. Furthermore, NME decrease was greater at 18∶00 than at 06∶00 h for the vastus medialis ( p<0.05) and the vastus lateralis muscles ( p<0.002), and this occurred during the first fatigue phase of the exercise. In conclusion, the diurnal variation of the muscle fatigue observed during a maximal and prolonged isokinetic exercise seems to reflect on the muscle, with a greater contractile capacity but a higher fatigability in the evening compared to the morning. 相似文献

Little is known about the chronopharmacokinetics of loratadine, a long‐acting tricyclic antihistamine H 1 widely used in the treatment of allergic diseases. Hence, the pharmacokinetics of loratadine and its major metabolite, desloratadine, were investigated after a 20 mg/kg dose of loratadine had been orally administered to comparable groups of mice (n=33), synchronized for three weeks to 12 h light (rest span)/12 h dark (activity span). The drug was administered at three different circadian times (1, 9, and 17 h after light onset [HALO]). Multiple blood samples were collected over 48 h, and plasma concentrations of loratadine and desloratadine were determined by high performance liquid chromatography. There were no significant differences in T max of loratadine and desloratadine between treatment‐time different groups. However, the elimination half‐life (t1/2) of the parent compound and its metabolite was significantly longer ( p<0.01) following administration at 9 HALO (t1/2 loratadine and desloratadine 5.62 and 4.08 h at 9 HALO vs. 4.29 and 2.6 h at 17 HALO vs. 3.26 and 3.27 at 1 HALO). There were relevant ( p<0.05) differences in C max between the three treated groups for loratadine and desloratadine; 133.05±3.55 and 258.07±14.45 ng/mL at 9 HALO vs. 104.5±2.61 and 188.62±7.20 ng/mL at 1 HALO vs. 94.33±20 and 187.75±10.79 ng/mL at 17 HALO. Drug dosing at 17 HALO resulted in highest loratadine and desloratadine total apparent clearance values: 61.46 and 15.97 L/h/kg, respectively, whereas loratadine and desloratadine clearances (CL) were significantly slower ( p<0.05) at the other administration times (loratadine and desloratadine CL was 57.3 and 14.22 L/h/kg at 1 HALO vs. 43.79 and 12.89 L/h/kg at 9 HALO, respectively). The area under the concentration‐time curve (AUC) of loratadine and desloratadine was significantly ( p<0.05) greater following drug administration at 9 HALO (456.75 and 1550.57 (ng/mL) · h, respectively); it was lowest following treatment at 17 HALO (325.39 and 1252.53 (ng/mL) · h, respectively). These pharmacokinetic data indicate that the administration time of loratadine significantly affected its pharmacokinetics: the elimination of loratadine and its major metabolite desloratadine. 相似文献

The chronopharmacological effect of raloxifene, a selective estrogen‐receptor modulator, was evaluated by repeated dosing of ovariectomized rats. Bilateral ovariectomy or sham operation was performed at age 12 wks, and animals were kept in rooms with a 12 h light‐12 h dark cycle. Raloxifene (3 mg/kg, once daily for 10 wks) or vehicle was given repeatedly at either 2 h after lights‐on (2 HALO) or 14 h after lights‐on (14 HALO). Plasma fibrinogen concentration at the end of the study was reduced by the drug, and the reduction was significantly prominent in rats in whom the drug was dosed at 2 HALO rather than 14 HALO. Femur bone density decreased, and urinary excretion of deoxypyridinoline, an index of bone resorption capacity of osteoclasts, increased in ovariectomized animals at the end of the study. Treatment with raloxifene ameliorated these changes in a dosing time‐independent manner. Serum calcium, ALT, and total protein concentrations at the end of the study also did not differ acccording to treatment regime, which indicates that protein synthesis and liver function may not contribute to the effects. This is the first study to determine dosing time‐dependent changes in the efficacy of raloxifene in an animal model of osteoporosis. Because fibrinogen concentration is reported to be a marker of cardiovascular events, consideration of dosing time of raloxifene may be important to obtain a better cardioprotective effect of this medication when it is prescribed to postmenopausal women with osteoporosis. 相似文献

The effects of corn fiber intake (6 and 12 g/day for 10 days) on the fecal weight, moisture, neutral detergent fiber (NDF), pH, microflora and β-glucuronidase activity, and on the serum lipids were investigated in five healthy men. Fecal weight and NDF increased depending on the fiber dose, whereas fecal moisture decreased. No remarkable change in fecal microflora was observed. Fecal β-glucuronidase activities (per gram of wet feces and daily output) were dose-dependently decreased by corn fiber intake. The levels of serum lipids did not change. These results show that corn fiber intake yielded an increase of fecal weight and a reduction of fecal β-glucuronidase activity. 相似文献

The effects of the EEG–biofeedback (EEG–BFB) procedure, aimed at increasing the sensorimotor (12–15 Hz) and (15–18 Hz) rhythms on the psychological and electrophysiological parameters of attention, were studied using the methods of scalp recording of evoked potentials in the bistimulus paradigm Go/No–Go and a psychological attention test (Test of Variables of Attention; TOVA). Twenty-five children with attention disorders were included in the study. EEG–BFB sessions significantly improved the attention, behavior, and school study results in 19 (76%) children. In these cases, a significant increase in the amplitude of the inhibitory component in the frontocentral leads and improvement of the TOVA parameters were found. 相似文献

Cardiovascular functions (blood pressure [BP], heart rate [HR]) were radiotelemetrically studied in endothelial nitric oxide synthase (NOS) knock‐out mice (eNOS‐/‐) and their wild type C57BL/6 (WT) controls. Studies were performed with and without inhibition of the NOS with the non‐specific inhibitor N ω‐Nitro‐ L‐Arginin‐Methylester ( L‐NAME). Six eNOS‐/‐and five WT mice, kept under a light:dark schedule of 12:12 h (lights on 07:00 h), were treated with L‐NAME in tap water containing different concentrations (94, 282, and 940 mg/kg) each for three days. Under control conditions, the eNOS‐/‐mice are mildly hypertensive in comparison to WT. L‐NAME increased systolic [SBP] and diastolic [DBP] blood pressures in WT mice to the levels of eNOS‐/‐mice after two days of L‐NAME application with no dose‐dependency, whereas L‐NAME had no effects on SBP and DBP in eNOS‐/‐mice. In neither mouse strain were the circadian rhythms in BP and HR affected by drug treatment. The similarity of the 24 h BP profiles in eNOS‐/‐and L‐NAME‐treated WT mice support the notion that only the enothelial NOS and not other NOS isoenzymes are of importance for hypertension in the knock‐out mouse strain. 相似文献

Cocaine is a highly addictive stimulant and a well-known drug, with multiple effects on physiology. Cocaine can have direct effects on all cell types in the brain, including microglia. Microglia can be activated by other conditions, such as infection, inflammation, or injury. However, how cocaine regulates microglia and the influence of cocaine on microglial-derived exosomes remains unknown. Exosomes are nanovesicles that are responsible for intercellular communications, signaling, and trafficking necessary cargo for cell homeostasis. In this study, we hypothesized that cocaine affects exosome biogenesis and composition in BV2 microglial cells. BV2 microglial cells were cultured in exosome-depleted RPMI-1640 media and were treated according to the experimental designs. We observed that cell viability decreased by 11% at 100 µM cocaine treatment but was unaffected at other concentrations. After treatments, the exosomes were isolated from the condition media. Purified exosomes were characterized and quantified using transmission electron microscope (TEM) and nanoparticle tracking analysis (NTA). By NTA, there was a significant decrease in particles/mL after cocaine treatment. There was a 39.5%, 58.1%, 32.3% and 28.1% decrease in particles/mL at 100 nM, 1 μM, 10 μM and 100 μM cocaine, respectively. The characterization of exosomes and exosomal protein was performed by western/dot blot analyses. Tetraspanins CD11b, CD18 and CD63 were relatively unchanged after cocaine treatment. The heat shock proteins (Hsps), Hsp70 and Hsp90, were both significantly increased at 10 μM and 100 μM, but only hsp70 was significantly increased at 10 nM. The Rab proteins were assessed to investigate their role in cocaine-mediated exosomal decrease. Rab11 was significantly decreased at 10 nM, 100 nM, 1 μM, 10 μM and 100 μM by 15%, 28%, 25%, 38% and 22%, respectively. Rab27 was decreased at all concentrations but only significantly decreased at 100 nM, 1 μM and 100 μM cocaine by 21%, 24% and 23%, respectively. Rab35 had no significant changes noted when compared to control. Rab7 increased at all cocaine concentrations but only a significant increase in expression at 100 nM and 10 μM by 1.32-fold and 1.4-fold increase. Cocaine was found to alter exosome biogenesis and composition in BV2 microglial cells. Western and dot blot analyses verified the identities of purified exosomes, and the specific protein compositions of exosomes were found to change in the presence of cocaine. Furthermore, cocaine exposure modulated the expression of exosomal proteins, such as Hsps and Rab GTPases, suggesting the protein composition and formation of microglial-derived exosomes were regulated by cocaine. 相似文献

We assessed the effect of short‐term underfeeding on weight and protein mass of splanchnic tissues in adult ewes submitted to a factorial experimental design. In a pre‐experimental period, 18 ewes divided into 2 groups of 9 were fed a second cut of natural grassland hay during 4 weeks at 112 or 38% of their energy maintenance requirements. Three ewes of each group were then fed the same hay during 4 weeks at either low (group L), moderate (group M) or high intake (group H), corresponding to 38, 75 or 112% of their energy maintenance requirements, respectively, then slaughtered. Fresh weight and protein mass of splanchnic organs were measured. No carry‐over effect of the pre‐experimental level of intake on weight and protein mass was observed for any splanchnic organs. Splanchnic tissues contributed at 10.7 and 8.6% to the decrease in live weight for groups M and L, respectively. The decrease in weight of splanchnic tissues (‐15%) was mainly attributed to reticulorumen (‐23%), liver (‐21%), and at a lesser extent small intestine (‐11%). No large change in the mass ratio between mucosa and muscular‐sercsa in both dorsal and ventral sacs occurred in the rumen wall. These results are discussed together with previous published results on long‐term underfed ewes, and suggest that the decrease in energy expenditure in whole animal induced by underfeeding is mainly related to the decrease in splanchnic weight at short‐term, and to the decrease in other tissues at long‐term, splanchnic weight being stabilized. 相似文献

The importance of the language environment in influencing language outcomes is well known, but few studies have addressed the contextual factors that influence the amount of speech heard and vocalizations produced by a young child under naturalistic conditions. We analyze effects of type of activity engaged in by the child and time of day on quantitative measures of the language environment. We found effects of both activity and time of day. Structured activities generated the highest levels of adult language, but not necessarily the most child vocalizations. Home and daycare environments looked overall very similar on these measures, however there were important differences across the two environments with respect to the specific effects of activity and time of day. 相似文献

In many plant species, including chrysanthemum, a strong positive correlation between internode length and DIF [difference between day (DT) and night (NT) temperature] has been observed. However, Langton and Cockshull (1997. Scientia Horticulturae 69: 229-237) reported no such relationship and showed that absolute DT and NT explained internode length rather than DIF. To investigate these conflicting results and to clarify the validity of the DIF concept, cut chrysanthemums (Chrysanthemum 'Reagan Improved') were grown in growth chambers at all 16 combinations of four DT and four NT (16, 20, 24 and 28 degrees C) with a 12 h day length. Length of internode 10, number of internodes and stem length were measured on days 5, 10, 17, 22 and 27 after starting the temperature treatments. Internode length on day 10 showed a positive linear relationship with DIF (R2 = 0.64). However, when internodes had reached their final length in all treatments (day 27), a much stronger positive linear relation was observed (R2 = 0.81). A model to predict final internode length was developed based on the absolute DT and NT responses: both responses were optimum curves and no significant interaction between DT and NT occurred [final internode length (mm) = -32.23 + 3.56DT + 1.08NT - 0.0687DT2 - 0.0371NT2; R2 = 0.91, where TD is day temperature and TN is night temperature]. It is shown that DIF can predict final internode length only within a temperature range where effects of DT and NT are equal in magnitude and opposite in sign (18-24 degrees C). Internode appearance rate, as well as stem length formed during the experiment, showed an optimum response to DT. 相似文献

The present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of a 7 d continuous infusion of ropivacaine on the 24 h rhythms of body temperature, heart rate, and locomotor activity. After an initial 7 d baseline, rats were randomly divided into two groups of 4 rats each to receive ropivacaine or saline via an osmotic pump for 7 consecutive days. The pumps were removed thereafter and observed during a 7 d recovery span. The studied circadian rhythms were measured by radiotelemetry throughout each of the 7 d periods. An additional group of 4 rats was studied under the same experimental conditions to assess the plasma levels of ropivacaine on days 3 and 8 following pump implantation. Our results indicate that ropivacaine does not induce loss of the circadian rhythms of body temperature, heart rate, or locomotor activity; a prominent period of 24 h was found for all variables in all animals, before, during, and after ropivacaine treatment. However, ropivacaine treatment did modify some characteristics of the rhythms; it increased the MESOR (24 h mean) of the heart rate and locomotor activity rhythms and advanced the acrophase (peak time) of the locomotor activity circadian rhythm. The present study indicates that the circadian rhythms of heart rate and locomotor activity are modified after continuous infusion of ropivacaine, which is of particular interest, given the potential cardiotoxicity of this local anesthetic agent. 相似文献

The mineral levels in maternal serum change during pregnancy and may be correlated with those of newborn cord blood. The aim of this study was to evaluate the concentrations of calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), zinc (Zn), iron (Fe), and copper (Cu) in maternal blood before and after delivery and in umbilical cord vein and artery serum. The study was carried out in 64 Caucasian pregnant women who delivered in a district hospital in Greater Poland region, aged 28.1 ± 5.4 years, with a mean gestational age of 39.2 ± 1.3 weeks. Blood samples were taken from women 2–8 h before delivery and immediately after childbirth. The umbilical cord artery and vein blood of newborns was obtained immediately after childbirth. The levels of minerals in serum were determined by flame atomic absorption spectrometry. A significant drop in the concentrations of Mg (17.71 ± 1.51 vs 17.07 ± 1.61 μg/ml; p < 0.007), Fe (1.08 ± 0.46 vs 0.82 ± 0.35 μg/ml; p < 0.0004), and Zn (0.63 ± 0.17 vs 0.46 ± 0.16; p < 0.0001) in maternal serum was found after delivery. Moreover, higher levels of Ca, Fe, and Zn and lower levels of Cu were observed in the umbilical vein (Ca: 102.80 ± 7.80 μg/ml; p < 0.0001, Fe: 1.96 ± 0.43 μg/ml; p < 0.0001, Zn: 0.65 ± 0.16 μg/ml; p < 0.0001, Cu: 0.36 ± 0.09 μg/ml; p < 0.0001) and in the umbilical artery cord blood (Ca: 98.07 ± 8.18 μg/ml; p < 0.0001, Fe: 1.63 ± 0.30 μg/ml; p < 0.0001, Zn: 0.65 ± 0.15 μg/ml; p < 0.0001, and Cu: 0.36 ± 0.10 μg/ml; p < 0.0001) compared to the maternal serum (Ca: 85.05 ± 10.76 μg/ml, Fe: 0.82 ± 0.35 μg/ml, Zn: 0.46 ± 0.16 μg/ml, and Cu: 1.90 ± 0.35 μg/ml). Fe levels in the cord artery serum negatively correlated with blood loss during delivery ( R = ?0.48; p = 0.01), while the Ca concentration in the maternal serum after birth decreased with the age of the women ( R = ?0.25; p = 0.03). In conclusion, it seems that the process of birth alters the mineral levels in pregnant women’s blood. Moreover, it was found that blood loss and the age of the mother are associated with mineral concentrations in the maternal serum and cord artery blood. 相似文献

The present study was aimed to examine the effects of 3-week zinc and melatonin administration on testicular tissue injury and serum Inhibin-B levels caused by unilateral testicular torsion–detorsion in rats. The study was performed on 60 Wistar Albino-type adult male rats. The animals were allocated to 6 groups in equal numbers. 1. Control; 2. Sham; 3. Ischemia–reperfusion; 4. Zinc + ischemia–reperfusion; 5. Melatonin + ischemia–reperfusion; 6. Zinc + melatonin + ischemia–reperfusion. Zinc and melatonin were administered before ischemia–reperfusion at doses of 5 and 3 mg/kg respectively, by intraperitoneal route for a period of 3 weeks. Testicular torsion–detorsion procedures consisted of ischemia for 1 h and then reperfusion for another hour of the left testis. Blood and testicular tissue samples were collected to analyze erythrocyte and tissue GSH and plasma and tissue MDA, Inhibin-B levels. The highest erythrocyte and testis GSH values were found in zinc, melatonin, and zinc + melatonin groups ( p < 0.001). Torsion–detorsion group has significantly lower erythrocyte GSH levels and higher plasma MDA values ( p < 0.001). Serum inhibin-B and spermatogenic activity levels in the torsion–detorsion group were also significantly lower than those in the other groups ( p < 0.001). However, zinc-, melatonin-, and melatonin + zinc-supplemented groups have higher inhibin-B and spermatogenetic activity ( p < 0.001). The results of the study show that zinc, melatonin, and melatonin + zinc administration partially restores the increased oxidative stress, as well as the reduced inhibin-B and spermatogenic activity levels in testes ischemia–reperfusion in rats. Suppressed inhibin-B levels in the testicular tissue may be a marker of oxidative stress. 相似文献

BackgroundDifferent studies have shown circadian variation of ischemic burden among patients with ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI), but with controversial results. The aim of this study was to analyze circadian variation of myocardial infarction size and in-hospital mortality in a large multicenter registry. MethodsThis retrospective, registry-based study was based on data from AMIS Plus, a large multicenter Swiss registry of patients who suffered myocardial infarction between 1999 and 2013. Peak creatine kinase (CK) was used as a proxy measure for myocardial infarction size. Associations between peak CK, in-hospital mortality, and the time of day at symptom onset were modelled using polynomial-harmonic regression methods. Results6,223 STEMI patients were admitted to 82 acute-care hospitals in Switzerland and treated with primary angioplasty within six hours of symptom onset. Only the 24-hour harmonic was significantly associated with peak CK (p = 0.0001). The maximum average peak CK value (2,315 U/L) was for patients with symptom onset at 23:00, whereas the minimum average (2,017 U/L) was for onset at 11:00. The amplitude of variation was 298 U/L. In addition, no correlation was observed between ischemic time and circadian peak CK variation. Of the 6,223 patients, 223 (3.58%) died during index hospitalization. Remarkably, only the 24-hour harmonic was significantly associated with in-hospital mortality. The risk of death from STEMI was highest for patients with symptom onset at 00:00 and lowest for those with onset at 12:00. DiscussionAs a part of this first large study of STEMI patients treated with primary angioplasty in Swiss hospitals, investigations confirmed a circadian pattern to both peak CK and in-hospital mortality which were independent of total ischemic time. Five N 10‐substituted phenoxazines having different R groups and –Cl substitution at C‐2 were found to bind to calf –thymus DNA and plasmid DNA with high affinity as seen from by UV and CD spectroscopy. The effect of phenoxazines on DNA were studied using DNA‐ethidium bromide complexes. Upon addition of phenoxazines, the ethidium bromide dissociated from the complex with DNA. The binding of phenoxazines to plasmid PUC18 reduced ethidium bromide binding as seen from the agarose gel electrophoresis. Butyl, and propyl substituted phenoxazines were able to release more ethidium bromide compared with that of acetyl substitution. The aim of the study was to assess if a simple motor task, one that required muscle contractions well below maximum, showed evidence of circadian changes and time‐awake. The task consisted of using a larger counter to flick a number of smaller counters to land as near as possible to the center of a target. The closer a counter landed next to the center of the target, the higher the score obtained. Two distances from the target were used (long and short), and 20 counters were flicked at each distance. The task was performed by 72 diurnally active healthy participants at six test sessions distributed every 4 h throughout the day (08:00 h, 12:00 h, … , 04:00 h), so covering a circadian cycle. When performing the sessions, subjects had been awake for about 1, 4, … , 20 h. Before each test session, sublingual temperature was measured, and estimates of the individual's fatigue and alertness were made. Clear normally phased circadian rhythms ( p<0.0001) in oral temperature and alertness with mean peak time (i.e., acrophases of 17.2 h and 15.9 h, respectively) and fatigue (i.e., mean acrophase of 3.4 h) were detected. The total scores for both the long and short distances also showed circadian rhythms that peaked slightly before the temperature rhythm (by 2.31±0.91 h and 1.77±0.77 h, mean±SE, respectively), and the number of occasions that the target was missed altogether showed rhythms that were in anti‐phase (mean acrophases=3.8 h and 4.1 h for the long and short distances, respectively) to that of total scores (mean acrophases=16.0 h and 15.2 h for the long and short distances, respectively). With the long and, particularly, short distances, there were generally significant correlations (r<0.0005) between both the measures of accuracy (total score and number of misses) and body temperature and time‐awake. The accuracy of performance at this task seems to show circadian and time‐awake effects, and so makes it of potential value in protocols where repetitive measurements during the course of a day are required. 相似文献
