When species hybridize, one F1 hybrid cross type often predominates. Such asymmetry can arise from differences in a variety of reproductive barriers, but the relative roles and concordance of pre-mating, post-mating prezygotic, and post-zygotic barriers in producing these biases in natural animal populations have not been widely investigated. Here, we study a population of predominantly F1 hybrids between two killifish species (Fundulus heteroclitus and F. diaphanus) in which >95% of F1 hybrids have F. diaphanus mothers and F. heteroclitus fathers (D♀ × H♂). To determine why F. heteroclitus × F. diaphanus F1 hybrids (H♀ × D♂) are so rare, we tested for asymmetry in pre-mating reproductive barriers (female preference and male aggression) at a common salinity (10 ppt) and post-mating, pre-zygotic (fertilization success) and post-zygotic (embryonic development time and hatching success) reproductive barriers at a range of ecologically relevant salinities (0, 5, 10, and 15 ppt). We found that F. heteroclitus females preferred conspecific males, whereas F. diaphanus females did not, matching the observed cross bias in the wild. Naturally rare H♀ × D♂ crosses also had lower fertilization success than all other cross types, and a lower hatching success than the prevalent D♀ × H♂ crosses at the salinity found in the hybrid zone centre (10 ppt). Furthermore, the naturally predominant D♀ × H♂ crosses had a higher hatching success than F. diaphanus crosses at 10 ppt, which may further increase their relative abundance. The present study suggests that a combination of incomplete mating, post-mating pre-zygotic and post-zygotic reproductive isolating mechanisms act in concert to produce hybrid asymmetry in this system.  相似文献

A series of cross-fertilization experiments were conducted with two unnamed, sympatric species of sea urchins in the Echinometra mathaei species complex, Echinometra sp. A (Ea) and Echinometra sp. C (Ec). Heterogametic fertilization success was high when eggs of Ec and sperm of Ea were involved, and low with eggs of Ea and sperm of Ec. Hybrids produced from crosses in either direction developed normally to sexually mature adults; Ea x Ea were largest in test size, followed by Ec (ova) x Ea (sperm), Ea (ova) x Ec (sperm), and Ec x Ec, respectively. Color patterns of the hybrids were closer to the maternal coloration, whereas other characters such as relative test dimensions and spine lengths, morphology of tubefoot and gonad spicules, and gamete sizes were intermediate. Fertilization rates in F1 backcrosses were high, minimizing the possibility that hybrid infertility is a postzygotic mechanism of reproductive isolation. On the other hand, intensive surveys failed to find individuals with hybrid characteristics in the field, suggesting that natural hybridization between the two species is rare. Prezygotic isolating mechanisms, such as microhabitat separation and gamete incompatibility, at least between Ea eggs and Ec sperm, most likely maintain the genetic integrity of these two closely related species.  相似文献

An experiment was conducted to determine the survival rate, fertilization rate, growth performance and feed utilization of two African clariid catfish Clarias gariepinus and Heterobranchus bidorsalis and their reciprocal hybrids. Four genetic crosses were made: C. gariepinus♀ × C. gariepinus♂, H. bidorsalis♀ × H. bidorsalis♂, C. gariepinus♀ × H. bidorsalis♂ and H. bidorsalis♀ × C. gariepinus♂. The experiment was divided into two phases: artificial propagation of the fish species using a synthetic hormone and rearing the fry for 14 days, then further rearing the 14‐day‐old fry for an additional 35 days. In the first phase of the experiment, fry survival was estimated in each experimental unit (genetic cross); in the second phase, growth and nutrient utilization were investigated. Results revealed that the highest percentage of fertilization, hatching rate and percentage of survival was in the hybrid (H. bidorsalis♀ × C. gariepinus♂) followed by the purebred H. bidorsalis (H. bidorsalis♀ × H. bidorsalis♂). These three factors were significantly different (P < 0.05) among the genetic crosses. The purebred H. bidorsalis (H. bidorsalis♀ × H. bidorsalis♂) had the highest percentage values of weight gain, specific growth rate and protein efficiency ratio and that these three parameters were significant (P < 0.05) among the four genetic crosses. Based on the results of this study, the purebred H. bidorsalis is recommended for commercial aquacultural practices.  相似文献

The histone patterns in Xenopus laevis and X. borealis have been examined at various developmental stages using acid-urea polyacrylamide electrophoresis. Qualitative differences between the two species have been demonstrated in the H1 fraction. These differences are not affected by alkaline phosphatase digestion. Quantitative changes during development in both H1 and H4 fractions have also been observed. In addition, histones from hybrids of the two species have been examined. H1 histones characteristic of both species are present by the neurula stage in laevis ♀ × borealis ♂ hybrids. Quantitative changes observed in borealis development are mimicked in laevis ♀ × borealis ♂ hybrid development.  相似文献

通过对甘草属乌拉尔甘草(Glycyrrhiza uralensis)、光果甘草(G.glabra)、胀果甘草(G.inflata)及其人工杂交种组合G.uralensis♀×G.glabra♂、G.glabra♀×G.uralensis♂、G.uralensis♀×G.inflata♂、G.inflata♀×G.uralensis♂共68份材料的核基因ITS序列、叶绿体rbc L、mat K、trn H-psb A基因的序列分析,探讨了甘草属叶绿体DNA遗传方式。结果表明:(1)亲本种和人工杂交种ITS序列长度均为614 bp,其中34份人工杂交种ITS序列存在4处变异位点,且人工杂交种均检测出来自父本、母本ITS序列相同位点碱基的叠加,检测率为100%。(2)亲本种与人工杂交种的叶绿体基因rbc L、mat K、trn H-psb A序列长度相同,共有4处变异位点,人工杂交种在变异位点处的碱基与其相对应的父本碱基一致率高达97.1%。以上结果说明,该研究获得34份人工杂交种为100%杂交成功的F_1子代,核基因ITS序列可用于甘草属杂交种的遗传鉴定;甘草属叶绿体rbcL、mat K、trn H-psb A基因具有父系遗传特性,推测甘草属质体的遗传方式主要表现为父系遗传,这种质体遗传方式的发现为甘草属杂交种和遗传多样性研究提供了新的认识,也为杂交种的亲本鉴定提供分子依据。  相似文献

On Australia's south‐east coast, hybridization between estuary‐restricted black bream Acanthopagrus butcheri Munro and its migratory coastal congener yellowfin bream Acanthopagrus australis (Günther) has led to estuarine populations largely composed of hybrids that are most genetically similar to A. butcheri. The fertilization success achieved when ova of estuary‐caught A. butcheri were fertilized with the cryogenically preserved sperm of either ocean‐caught A. australis or estuary‐caught A. butcheri‐like was compared. The experimental crosses, which by chance included both pure parental and hybrid bream, revealed no evidence that gametic incompatibility provides a barrier to fertilization among both pure species and their hybrids.  相似文献

The morphology of gametes and the fertilization biology of Japanese flounder Paralichthys olivaceus (Po), summer flounder Paralichthys dentatus (Pd) and their hybrids were examined. Multiple generations (two hybrids: Po♀× Pd♂ (F1) and Pd♀× Po♂; two backcrosses: F1♀× Po♂ and F1♀× Pd♂) were obtained by artificial insemination. Comparison of egg ultrastructure among Po, Pd and F1 showed the morphology of micropyle region and the distribution density of pores were species specific. There were c. 100-200 accessory openings around the micropyle in Po, but not in Pd and F1. The zona radiata thickness and number of parallel bands were similar between F1 and Po, which were different from Pd. Comparison of spermatozoa ultrastructure revealed a close relationship between Po and Pd. Cytologically, the six crosses obeyed normal fertilization and cleavage processes, and only one male pronucleus was observed in a fertilized egg, indicating a monospermic fertilization pattern. Analysis of the time distribution from fertilization to first cleavage revealed an obvious delay at pronucleus fusion in the Pd × Po cross. The delay might indicate some cytoplasmic-nuclear incompatibility during the process of fertilization.  相似文献

Die ökologischen Ansprüche von Trithyreus Sturmi Kraus, einer kleinen kolumbianischen Art von Geißelskorpionen, werden kurz charakterisiert. Innerhalb des Verhaltens werden Fortbewegung, Beutefang, verschiedene Putzbewegungen, Graben und Einzelheiten von Balz und Paarung beschrieben. Während der Balz zeigt das ♂ vor dem ♀, aber ohne direkten Kontakt mit ihm, verschiedene Arten rhythmischer Bewegungen, die das ♀ schließlich mit Zulaufen auf das ♂ beantwortet. Beim anschließenden Paarungsmarsch hängt sich das ♀ mit seinen Chelizeren in paarigen Strukturen des verdickten Flagellum des ♂ fest. Auf diese Weise kann es vom ♂ über die nach einigen Viertelstunden bis Stunden abgesetzte Spermatophore gezogen werden. Es handelt sich um indirekte Spermatophorenübertragung mit hoch differenzierter Spermatophore (Stiel, flügelartige Teile, paarige Samenpakete mit schlauchartigen Innenstrukturen) und spezialisierten Verhaltensweisen zur Sicherung der Übertragung. Die Beobachtungen werden im Hinblick auf die Verhältnisse bei anderen Pedipalpengruppen diskutiert.  相似文献

  • 1 When a male smooth newt encounters a ♀ who is already engaged in courtship, he may mimic her behaviour during the spermatophore deposition and transfer stages of the courtship. He thereby usurps the courting ♂ and may inseminate the ♀ himself. Such sexual interference depresses the short-term, and perhaps long-term, mating success of the courting ♂.
  • 2 In the presence of a potential rival, the courting ♂ alters certain aspects of his sexual behaviour. He displays more intensely to the ♀ and attempts to draw her away from the rival by increasing the duration of his display. He may also “check” that it is the ♀, and not the rival, who will elicit the deposition of a spermatophore from him. These changes in the behaviour of the courting ♂ are interpreted as defense against sexual interference.
  • 3 Female smooth newts may be multiply inseminated as a consequence of sexual interference; this may result in sperm competition. However, ♀♀ seem to find competitive interactions between ♂ ♂ “aversive”.
  • 4 Sexual interference by ♀-mimicry and associated defensive behaviour patterns are common in the urodele amphibians. Interference can be thought of as a “side-payment” conditional mating strategy.

Crosses between Drosophila mojavensis and D. arizonensis produce fertile females, but the males from the cross ♂ D. mojavensis × ♀ D. arizonensis are sterile. The chromosomal basis of sperm immotility was studied in these hybrids. Interspecific crossing-over was avoided by crossing hybrid males to pure-species females, and chromosomal identification in backcross progeny was possible by means of electrophoretic markers. The main findings are as follows. The Y-chromosome and two autosomes are involved in the determination of sperm motility. The other autosomes, with the exception of the sixth which was not tested, appear to have no effect. The effect of the D. arizonensis X-chromosome was not examined, but it is established that the D. mojavensis X-chromosome has no effect on sperm motility in males carrying the D. arizonensis Y-chromosome and any combination of autosomes. The Y-chromosome and the two autosomes interact with each other in a simple and predictable way, so that certain combinations of these chromosomes always produce motile sperm and others immotile sperm. Thus, asymmetrical male hybrid sterility may have a simple genetic basis. In contrast to ethological isolation, the genetic basis for this postmating isolating mechanism does not appear to vary among conspecific populations, an observation which suggests that postmating isolation antedates ethological isolation in these species.  相似文献

Mahoney , D. L. Jules Janick , and E. C. Stevenson . (Purdue U., Lafayette, Ind.) Sex determination in diploid-triploid crosses of Spinacia oleracea. Amer. Jour. Bot. 46(5): 372–375. 1959.—Segregation for sex in spinach was studied in a series of diploid pistillate × triploid staminate crosses. The genetic data indicated that the functional gametes from staminate triploids were not confined to n and n + 1 types. Cytological analyses of progenies from a number of 2n ♀ × 3n (XYY and XYY) ♂ crosses revealed similar but non-homogeneous types of chromosome segregation. These crosses produced 49.3% diploids, 17.9% trisomies, 0.5% with 14 chromosomes, 1.2% with 16 chromosomes, 11.4% with 17 chromosomes, 18.9% triploids, and 0.8% with 19 chromosomes. The reciprocal crosses produced a higher percentage of aneuploid types including 1.7% with 15 chromosomes. Segregation for sex in each of the various chromosome numbered progeny of diploid-triploid crosses was presented and analyzed.  相似文献

棉蚜迁飞型和居留型及其杂交后代飞行特性的比较研究   总被引:4,自引:1,他引:3  
为了明确棉蚜种群飞行能力发生分化的遗传基础,本文对春季木槿上有翅棉蚜中的起飞个体和不起飞个体分别进行连续4代次和2代次的起飞特性选择。结果表明,棉蚜的起飞比率和起飞角度特性表现出了明显的选择响应,并筛选出了棉蚜的迁飞型(M)和居留型(S)。通过对棉蚜性蚜的诱导,摸索出了棉蚜性蚜交配及卵孵化的条件。对迁飞型(M)、居留型(S)、迁飞型和居留型的正反交后代(M♀×S♂,S♀×M♂)、夏季木槿上的滞留蚜(H)等5类棉蚜的起飞特性进行了比较研究。结果表明,迁飞型和居留型的正反交后代的起飞比率显著高于居留型,且稍高于迁飞型。迁飞型雌蚜与居留型雄蚜的杂交后代的起飞角度显著高于居留型和夏季木槿上的滞留蚜。居留型产生有翅蚜的比率低于迁飞型及其与居留型的正反交后代。棉蚜的起飞角度、起飞比率及有翅蚜产生能力表现出了较强的遗传效应。平均起飞时间虽然表现出迁飞型雌蚜与居留型雄蚜的杂交后代显著短于迁飞型雄蚜与居留型雌蚜的杂交后代及夏季木槿上的滞留蚜,但与迁飞型和居留型之间却无显著差异,表现出棉蚜起飞时间特性的遗传效应不明显。  相似文献

  • 1 Bei der Raubfliege Pycnopogon fasciculatus vollführt das ♂ vor dem sitzenden ♀ eine Flugbalz, die hauptsächlich anhand von Filmaufnahmen analysiert wurde. Das ♂ schwebt bei der Flugbalz dicht vor dem ♀, schwenkt dann bis 10 cm nach hinten aus, um auf der gleichen Flugbahn stoßartig nach vorne vor das ♀ zu fliegen. Diesen Hin- und Herflug wiederholt das ♂ durchschnittlich 28mal. Zu Beginn der Flugbalz orientiert sich das ♂ durch Ertasten des weiblichen Vorderendes. Das ♂ hält die Beine an den beiden Umkehrpunkten der Flugbahn ganz verschieden (vgl. Abb. 2 c), zeigt aber keine Landehaltung. Flugtechnisch scheint die Veränderung der Beinstellung wenig Bedeutung zu haben. Ob die Beinhaltung vor dem ♀ aus einer ritualisierten Beuteübergabe hervorgegangen ist, bleibt offen. Das ♀ zeigt seine Abwehrbereitschaft bei der Flugbalz durch ritualisiertes Wackeln hochgehaltener Hinterbeine.
  • 2 Das ♂ vollführt seine Flugbalz auch vor toten, artgleichen ♀ und ♂♂ und auch vor artfremden, z. T. größeren Fliegen. Die Flugbalz ist kürzer als vor lebenden ♀♀ (durchschnittlich nur 14 Anflüge) und führt wegen des Fehlens von Abwehrsignalen des ♂ doppelt so haufig zu einem unmittelbar anschließenden Kopulationsversuch.
  • 3 Sitzende ♂♂ schlagen gegen anfliegende ♂♂ ihre Vorderbeine schnell abwechselnd in die Luft. Dieses Vorderbeinwirbeln tritt auch beim Schweben des ♂ vor dem ♀ während der Balz auf und wird als Abwehrhandlung gedeutet. Durch das Vorderbeinwirbeln gegen andere ♂♂ kommt es unter natürlichen Umständen nicht zur Flugbalz vor sitzenden ♂♂.
  • 4 ♀♀ vertreiben arteigene ♀♀ und artfremde Fliegen häufig von ihrem Sitzast durch Anlaufen mit schräg angestellten, seitlich abgespreizten Flügeln.
  • 5 Das ♂ versucht in 31 % der Fälle die Kopulation unmittelbar nach der Flugbalz (n = 96). Nicht Hochhalten der Hinterbeine des ♀ löst beim ♂ einen Kopulationsversuch aus. Die Kopulation dauert mindestens 15 min und vollzieht sich in der “end-to-end position”.
  • 6 Das Paarungsverhalten von Pycnopogon fasciculatus läßt sich als Handlungskette darstellen (Tab. 2).

Reproductive compatibility was studied among populations of different types of the citrus red mite, Panonychus citri (McGregor ), i.e., the diapausing type from pear (DP), the non-diapausing type from citrus (C) and that from pear (NP). Copulation was also observed between mates of different types (DP and C). Only in crosses between C ♀ and DP ♂, was copulation occasionally broken off prematurely; duration of copulation varied considerably between pairs and the average duration was much shorter than that between DP ♀ and C ♂ and than that in crosses between mates of the same types. No F1 adult females were produced at all from crosses between DP and C, showing that there was a complete reproductive isolation between the two types. There was a significant reciprocal difference in the egg hatchability and survival rate of immatures in the F1 progeny; mortality in the eggs and that in the immature stage were significantly higher in crosses between DP ♀ and C ♂, as compared to those in the reciprocal cross. This suggested that fertilization may have occurred in the former cross, whereas it seemed that eggs were not fertilized in crosses between the C ♀ and DP ♂. The NP was compatible with the C, whereas it was completely incompatible with the DP. Thus, there was a complete reproductive incompatibility between the diapausing and non-diapausing type of P. citri.  相似文献

Fertility in first‐generation hybrids of roach, Rutilus rutilus, and silver bream, Blicca bjoerkna, was investigated. Sperm and egg production of hybrids at first sexual maturity were examined. Eggs from female hybrids were artificially fertilized with the sperm of a corresponding hybrid male; a hybrid male from the reciprocal crossbreeding; a parental species male R. rutilus; and a parental species male B. bjoerkna. The results revealed that gametogenesis was normal in female hybrids. However, in male hybrids, a low efficiency of gametogenesis was observed. The semen of male hybrids was extremely dilute, with spermatozoa concentration lower than that in parental species. Nevertheless, these F1 hybrids (males and females) from reciprocal crossbreeding were fertile. F2 and backcross generations were produced, but F2 crosses from the female hybrid and corresponding hybrid male displayed a drastically slower hatching rate. Also higher proportions of deformed embryos were hatched than in other post‐F1‐generation crosses.  相似文献

The ability of a species and population to respond to a decrease or an increase in temperature depends on their adaptive potential. Here, the critical thermal tolerance (CTmax and CTmin) of four populations: Labeo rohita, Catla catla, and their reciprocal hybrids L. rohita♀× C. catla♂ (RC) and C. catla♀ × L. rohita♂ (CR) being acclimatized at four acclimation temperatures (22, 26, 30 and 34 °C) were determined. All populations indicated substantial variations (P < 0.05) in CTmax and CTmin values. L. rohita displayed, comparatively the highest CTmax with largest total and intrinsic polygon zones as well as the upper and lower acquired thermal tolerance zones followed by RC and CR hybrids, while C. catla showed significantly the highest CTmin value and the smallest intrinsic and acquired thermal tolerance zones. Both hybrids illustrated low parent heterosis (≤11%). Additionally, the highest expression of Hsp70 and Hsp90 (heat shock proteins) genes, serum lysozyme level, respiratory burst activity and lowest lipid peroxidation level under lower and higher temperature shock further illustrated strong physiological mechanism of L. rohita in contrast to C. catla, to deal with acute temperature, while hybrids, especially F1 RC hybrid appeared as a good option to replace C. catla in relatively higher and lower temperature areas.  相似文献

Ecology and mating system of A. akallopisos were investigated at Aldabra Atoll and data compared with A. bicinctus from the Red Sea. A. akallopisos inhabits Radianthus ritteri, a colonial species forming aggregations up to 198 anemones. A. bicinctus occupies Gyrostoma helianthus, a solitary-living anemone. Both Amphiprion species are monogamous. A. akallopisos, on its larger host clusters, forms groups of up to 9 adults, consisting of a large breeding ♂, a functional breeding ♂ and a varying number of non-breeding ♂♂. A size-dependent aggressive hierarchy exists; as the breeding ♂ prevents all others from mating with the ♀, monogamy obtains even in larger groups. The ♀ — a breeding ♂♂ having changed sex — defends and monopolizes a territory and so attracts and controls potential mates. The ♀-dominance system, resource defence and distribution, inter- and intrasexual competition are discussed in the light of Emlen and Oring's (1977) theories. The many A. akallopisos non-breeding ♂♂ in the overall population and in groups are suggested to be helpers. In Amphiprion helping would not mean caring for the eggs to increase the breeders' reproductive success. One could speculate that nonbreeding adults improve their own reproductive chances by remaining on the breeders' territory and waiting for a vacant breeding position.  相似文献
