[Purpose]We determined the effect of partial sleep deprivation (PSD) after an exercise session on exercise performance on the following morning.[Methods]Eleven male athletes performed either a normal sleep trial (CON) or a PSD trial. On the first day (day 1), all subjects performed an exercise session consisting of 90 min of running (at 75% V˙O2max) followed by 100 drop jumps. Maximal strength (MVC) was evaluated before and after exercise. In the CON trial, the sleep duration was 23:00–7:00, while in the PSD trial, the sleep duration was shortened to 40% of the regular sleep duration. On the following morning (day 2), MVC, the metabolic responses during 20 min of running (at 75% V˙O2max), and time to exhaustion (TTE) at 85% V˙O2max were evaluated.[Results]On day 2, neither the MVC nor  V˙O2 during 20 min of running differed significantly between the two trials. However, the respiratory exchange ratio was significantly lower in the PSD trial than in the CON trial (p = 0.01). Moreover, the TTE was significantly shorter in the PSD trial than in the CON trial (p = 0.01).[Conclusion]A single night of PSD after an exercise session significantly decreased endurance performance without significantly changing muscle strength or cardiopulmonary response.  相似文献

The main goal of the present study was to evaluate the acute effects of blood flow restriction (BFR) at 70% of full arterial occlusion pressure on strength-endurance performance during the bench press exercise. The study included 14 strength-trained male subjects (age = 25.6 ± 4.1 years; body mass = 81.7 ± 10.8 kg; bench press 1 repetition maximum (1RM) = 130.0 ± 22.1 kg), experienced in resistance training (3.9 ± 2.4 years). During the experimental sessions in a randomized crossover design, the subjects performed three sets of the bench press at 80% 1RM performed to failure with two different conditions: without BFR (CON); and with BFR (BFR). Friedman’s test showed significant differences between BFR and CON conditions for the number of repetitions performed (p < 0.001); for peak bar velocity (p < 0.001) and for mean bar velocity (p < 0.001). The pairwise comparisons showed a significant decrease for peak bar velocity and mean bar velocity in individual Set 1 for BFR when compared to CON conditions (p = 0.01 for both). The two-way repeated measures ANOVA showed a significant main effect for the time under tension (p = 0.02). A post-hoc comparisons for the main effect showed a significant increase in time under tension for BFR when compared to CON (p = 0.02). The results of the presented study indicate that BFR used during strength-endurance exercise generally does not decrease the level of endurance performance, while it causes a drop in bar velocity.  相似文献

Plasma carnitine and acetyl-carnitine levels at different times of the day   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
An interest in both biochemical and clinical carnitine investigation has recently developed. A more complete and extensive study is obtained if acetyl-carnitine as well as carnitine are investigated. This research, using an improved and simplified method for carnitine and acetyl-carnitine determination in the same sample (1 ml) without radioisotopic tracer use, investigates if there are the same differences in their plasma levels at different times of the day. The sample was eluted in a chromatographic column (55 X 15 mm) containing Sephadex G-25M with phosphate buffer (25 mmol/l, pH 7.4). The fraction containing acetyl and free carnitine was divided and employed separately for two assays. The carnitine assay uses an enzymatic reaction catalyzed by carnitine acetyl-transferase (CAT) and measurements are carried out spectrophotometrically. The calibration curve shows r = 0.987 and sensitivity at 5 mumol/l (reference plasma values: 38 +/- 3 mumol/l in 9 subjects). The acetyl-carnitine assay is carried out concentrating the sample by lyophilization and then measuring the enzymatic coupled reactions catalyzed by CAT, malate dehydrogenase and citrate synthase fluorimetrically. The calibration curve gives r = 0.991 and sensitivity at 1.4 mumol/l (reference plasma values: 2.8 +/- 0.3 mumol/l in 9 subjects). Both assay methods are measured at the end point. The carnitine and acetyl-carnitine measured in the plasma of 6 normal subjects at different times of the day vary respectively from 28 to 37 mumol/l and from 1.1 to 5.2 mumol/l in agreement with plasma free fatty acid (FFA) variation from 230 to 779 microEq/l.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Although hip flexion is integral in sports, hip flexion exercises are seldom emphasized in strength and conditioning for sports performance. This study aimed to determine whether a hip flexor resistance-training program could improve performance on a variety of tasks. Thirteen men and 11 women completed an 8-week hip flexion resistance-training program. Eleven men and 13 women served as controls. Isometric hip flexion strength, 40-yd dash time and the time for the first 10-yds, 4 x 5.8-m shuttle run time, and vertical jump height were evaluated at the beginning and end of the training and control period. Improvements were observed in the training group but not in the control group. Individuals in the training group improved hip flexion strength by 12.2% and decreased their 40-yd and shuttle run times by 3.8% and 9.0%, respectively. An increase in hip flexion strength can help to improve sprint and agility performance for physically active, untrained individuals.  相似文献

The influence of the chronotype on the sleep quality in male collegiate soccer players in response to acute high intensity interval training (HIIT) performed at two different times of day was evaluated. The sleep quality was poorer in the morning-type than in the evening-type players after the evening HIIT session, whereas no significant changes in the sleep quality of the two chronotypes after the morning HIIT session was observed. The results suggest that an athlete’s chronotype should be taken into account when scheduling training sessions and to promote faster recovery processes.  相似文献

Quantitative changes in jejunal goblet cells were studied in control and whole body irradiated rats using PAS-Alcian blue staining of crypt sections. A circadian dependence was observed when control animals were killed at different times during the light/dark cycle. Irradiation with 3 Gy produced a 2–3-fold increase within 36 h in goblet cells relative to controls, followed by a reduction to very low levels. There was a return to pre-treatment levels later than was observed for the columnar cells. The present results on the pattern of response of goblet cells and those of brush border enzyme activity are consistent with the hypothesis that ionizing radiation can influence differentiation. In fact during the first hours after irradiation an early induction of differentiation is evident while during the early repopulation phase columnar cells prevailed relative to the goblet cells. Only at later times were normal differentiation patterns seen. Groups of animals exposed to the same dose of radiation at different times of the day showed similar general patterns of behaviour even if the group irradiated at midnight showed a more marked and longer lasting injury.  相似文献

The lengths of the synthetic phase (S) and postsynthetic gap plus a half of the mitotic time (G2+1/2 M) has been investigated in hepatocytes of control and thyroxine-treated male white rats using percent labeled mitosis curves after injection of isotope at 10, 16, 22 and 4 o'clock. In the control, the minimum lengths of G2 lasted 3.0 hours without being changed during 24 hours. On the contrary, G2+1/2 M and S varied from 3.2 to 4.4 and from 8.0 to 9.5 hours, accordingly. A prolonged administration or hormone induced changes in duration of all the above phases whose alterations in thyroxine-treated group of animals showed 2.0--3.0, 2.9--3.4 and 6.4--11.3 hours, respectively. During 24 hours, there was observed a characteristic pattern of changes in the labeling index (LI) of both groups of animals. It has been established for both the groups that the increased in LI coincides with the shortening of S-phase. The data allow to conclude that some intracycle mechanisms may exist controlling the cell division and exerting their effects on the cells at the end of G1-phase and during G2-phase. Thyroxine is a regulator of cell proliferation, and its effect was found to occur due to the intracycle mechanisms of cell cycle kinetics.  相似文献

The study examined the growth performance of pigs offered liquid feed or dry feed on either a restricted or an ad libitum basis, and whether their growth performance was further influenced by the water-to-feed ratio. The study was split into two parts to enable unrestricted (trial 1; n = 64) and restricted (trial 2; n = 48) feeding to be compared. Male pigs were randomly allocated to six dietary treatment groups. A standard dry pellets diet (D) was offered either as: (i) unrestricted ration (UR); (ii) restricted ration (R); or D soaked in water at a feed-to-water ratio of (iii) 1 : 1.5 restricted (1 : 1.5 R); (iv) 1 : 3 unrestricted (1 : 3 UR); (v) 1 : 3 restricted (1 : 3 R); or (vi) 1 : 3 restricted with the addition of lactic acid to adjust the feed to pH 4 (1 : 3(4) R). Liquid feeding improved (P < 0.05) average daily live-weight gain (ADG) and lean tissue growth rate (LTGR) in the 1 : 3 UR compared with DUR but did not alter feed conversion ratio (FCR). Within the R groups, ADG were greater in all of the 1 : 3 diets, whereas feed intake, and hence FCR, was lower (P < 0.001) in these groups when offered the R ration. In conclusion, liquid feeding has a beneficial influence on the performance of modern porcine genotypes during the growth/finishing phase and this is further modulated by the water-to-feed ratio.  相似文献

Twenty-four male graduate volunteers were administered a battery of psychological tests--critical flicker fusion (CFF; alternate and simultaneous), reaction time (simple and choice), memory (forward and backward), and associative recall--to ascertain their performance capability during the different times of day. Each subject performed the tests on two occasions, once in the morning (10:00 h) and on the second occasion in the evening (15:00 h), on two successive days, following a statistically balanced design. Analysis of variance reflected superior performance on reaction time (choice) and memory (backward) in the evening and on associative recall in the morning. While no such effects were noticeable on CFF, appreciable changes in performance with the decreasing brightness level of its light sources was observed. Further work in this direction on a variety of cognitive tests and sensory functions under various times (more than two times) throughout the day is suggested.  相似文献

Recently, a high prevalence of morning-types was reported among trained South African endurance athletes. Proposed explanations for this observation were that either the chronotype of these athletes is better suited to coping with the early-morning start times of endurance events in South Africa; or habitual early waking for training or endurance events may have conditioned the athletes to adapt and become morning-types. The South African endurance athletes also had earlier chronotypes compared to a control population of less active individuals, suggesting that individuals who are more physically active may have earlier chronotypes. However, since both the South African athlete and control groups showed an overrepresentation of morning-types compared to European and American populations, the South African climate may in part have explained this bias towards morningness. Given the latitude and climate differences between South Africa and the Netherlands, and that South African marathons typically start at about 06:30 while those in the Netherlands start later (±11:00), comparison of South African and Dutch marathon runners and active controls would allow for simultaneous assessment of the effects of marathon start time, degree of physical activity and climate on chronotype. Therefore, the primary aims of this study were: (i) to assess the effect of marathon start time on chronotype in marathon runners and (ii) to determine the extent to which either degree of physical activity or climate might explain the bias towards morningness observed in South African athletes and controls. A secondary aim was to determine whether any relationships exist between chronotype, PERIOD3 (PER3) variable number tandem repeat (VNTR) polymorphism genotype, habitual training habits and marathon performance. Trained male marathon runners from South Africa (n?=?95) and the Netherlands (n?=?90), and active but non-competitive male controls from South Africa (n?=?97) and the Netherlands (n?=?98) completed a questionnaire capturing demographics, training and race history, as well as the Horne–Östberg morningness–eveningness personality questionnaire. All participants donated buccal cell samples from which genomic DNA was extracted and polymerase chain reaction analysis was used to genotype them for the PER3 VNTR polymorphism, which has previously been associated with chronotype. The main finding was that South African runners were significantly more morning-orientated than Dutch runners suggesting that participation in an endurance sport with an earlier start time may influence chronotype. Secondly, both the South African and Dutch runners were significantly more morning-orientated than their respective control groups, indicating that individuals who train for and participate in recreational endurance sport races have an earlier chronotype than physically active but non-competitive males. Thirdly, mean chronotype scores were similar between the South African and Dutch control groups, suggesting that climate does not seem to affect chronotype in these groups. Fourthly, the PER3 VNTR polymorphism distribution was similar between the four groups and was not associated with chronotype, suggesting that the difference in chronotype between the four groups in this study is not explained by the PER3 VNTR genotype. Lastly, in the South African runners group, a higher preference for mornings was associated with a better personal best half-marathon and current marathon performance.  相似文献

The present study was designed to investigate the effect of Ramadan fasting on feelings, dietary intake, rating of perceived exertion (RPE) and repeated high-intensity short-term maximal performance. Thirteen physically active men (age: 21.2 ± 2.9 years, height: 175.6 ± 5.6 cm, body-mass: 72.4 ± 8.6 kg) performed a 5-m shuttle run test (6 × 30-s + 35-s of recovery in-between) during five experimental periods: fifteen days before Ramadan (BR), the first ten days of Ramadan (FR), the last ten days of Ramadan (ER), ten days after Ramadan (AR10) and 20 days after Ramadan (AR20). The study was carried out in Tunisia during the 2016 Ramadan month. During the 5-m shuttle run test, higher distance (HD), total distance (TD) and fatigue index (FI) were recorded. RPE was determined after a 5-min warm-up and after each repetition of the 5-m shuttle run test (the mean RPE score during the test was calculated). Moreover, a feelings scale (FS) was used after the warm-up and after the end of the 5-m shuttle run test. During the five experimental periods, dietary intake was assessed. The results showed that HD, TD and FI during the 5-m shuttle run test were not affected by Ramadan observance (p > 0.05). Likewise, FS scores recorded after the warm-up and the 5-m shuttle run test were not affected by Ramadan fasting (p > 0.05). However, mean RPE scores during the 5-m shuttle run test were significantly lower at ER (4.06 UA), AR10 (3.86 UA) and AR20 (3.71 UA) in comparison to BR (4.51 UA) (p < 0.05). The results showed also that Ramadan fasting has no adverse effect on energy intake, protein (g and %), fat (g and %) and carbohydrate (g). However, the fractional contribution of carbohydrate was significantly higher AR10 than FR (53.1% vs. 45.8%) and ER (53.1% vs. 46.5%) and AR20 than FR (5.92% vs. 45.8%) (p < 0.05). In conclusion, Ramadan fasting has no adverse effect on feelings, dietary intake, and short-term maximal performance. However, the RPE during repeated high intensity short-term maximal exercise was reduced AR20 in comparison to ER.

The extent to which the diurnal fluctuations of different cognitive processes could be affected by sleep loss may be explored to predict performance decrements observed in the real world. Twenty healthy male subjects voluntarily took part in 8 test sessions at 06:00, 10:00, 14:00, and 18:00 h, following either a night with or without sleep in random order. Measurements included oral temperature, simple reaction time, sign cancelation, Go/NoGo, and the Purdue pegboard test. The results indicate that simple reaction time and motor coordination had morning–afternoon variations closely following the rhythms of temperature and vigilance. Inhibitory attention (Go/NoGo) presented no morning–afternoon variations. Sleep deprivation may affect the profiles of cognitive performance depending on the processes solicited. Sustained and inhibitory attention are particularly affected in the morning (after 24 and 28 waking hours), while a complex task (visuo-motor coordination) would be affected after 32 waking hours only.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine time-of-day effects on short-term performance in obese young men. In a balanced study design, 30 boys were divided into two groups: obese (OG; n = 15) and non-obese (CG; n = 15) groups. Both groups performed anaerobic tests of strength and power (squat-Jump, SJ; counter-movement jump, CMJ; 10-m sprint; and 30-m sprint) at 08:00 and 17:00 h on separate days. The results showed morning–evening differences in all variables in CG, with significant increases at 17:00 h (around the time of peak temperature) in comparison with 08:00 h (p < 0.01) for OG. However, such morning-evening differences were not found in the OG, except for the 30-m sprint. Obesity affects the diurnal variation on performances of 30-m sprint with a significant decrease in the evening for OG of 1.23% (p < 0.01). A correlation between anaerobic performance and oral temperature was observed only in the 30-m sprint test. In conclusion, the findings of the present study indicated that obesity is a problem that can affect circadian rhythms and performance in obese young men; therefore, preventing childhood obesity should become a top priority in efforts to improve performance and health.  相似文献

The pineal hormone melatonin in a dose-effect manner (0.1, 1 and 10 mg/kg) reorganized EEG spectral characteristics of rat sensorimotor cortex and hippocampus, decreasing medium (6-12 Hz) and high frequency (12-22 Hz) waves only in the evening. On the contrary, pinealectomy increased high-frequency waves only during morning hours. It is suggested that the observed changes may accompany anxiolytic and hypnotic effects of melatonin.  相似文献

The heart rate and systolic and diastolic blood pressures (HR, BPs, and BPd, respectively) were measured in controllers of electricity distribution at the beginning and end of 12-h shifts. Hemodynamic parameters were calculated. The stress was assessed with a five-point scale. It was found that the stress of mental work of the operator type activated the functioning of the cardiovascular system (CVS). The CVS reaction was more pronounced and interactive during the first shifts in each block than during the second shifts. The CVS reaction was more pronounced and interactive during day shifts than during night shifts. An increase in stress during the first day shifts was accompanied by a decrease in HR and an increase in minimum BPd during the shift, in the absence of a BPs reaction. The minimum levels of all three parameters (HR, BPs, and BPd) were increased during the first night shifts, which indicates that the effectiveness of CVS activation in the nighttime was decreased as compared to the daytime. The BPd is specifically sensitive to the work stress of controllers: its reaction to an increase in stress is classic during the first shifts and inverted during the second night shifts. This reflects exhaustion of adaptation reserves. The HR showed attenuated reactivity during the daytime, but not during the nighttime, when it reacted in the classic way.  相似文献

This study investigated seasonal and time-of-day dependent moderations in the strength and direction of acute diurnal non-image forming (NIF) effects of illuminance level on performance, physiology, and subjective well-being. Even though there are indications for temporal variations in NIF-responsiveness to bright light, scientific insights into potential moderations by season are scarce. We employed a 2 (Light: 165 versus 1700 lx at the eye level, within) × 2 (Season: autumn/winter versus spring, between) × 2 (Time of day: morning versus afternoon, between) mixed-model design. During each of the two 90-min experimental sessions, participants (autumn/winter: N = 34; spring: N = 39) completed four measurement blocks (incl. one baseline block of 120 lx at the eye level) each consisting of a Psychomotor Vigilance Task (PVT) and a Backwards Digit-Span Task (BDST) including easy trials (4–6 digits) and difficult trials (7–8 digits). Heart rate (HR) and skin conductance level (SCL) were measured continuously. At the end of each lighting condition, subjective sleepiness, vitality, and mood were measured. The results revealed a clear indication for significant Light * Season interaction effects on both subjective sleepiness and vitality, which appeared only during the morning sessions. Participants felt significantly more vital and less sleepy in winter, but not in spring during bright light exposure in the morning. In line with these subjective parameters, participants also showed significantly better PVT performance in the morning in autumn/winter, but not in spring upon bright light exposure. Surprisingly, for difficult working memory performance, the opposite was found, namely worse performance during bright light exposure in winter, but better performance when exposed to bright light in spring. The effects of bright versus regular light exposure on physiology were quite subtle and largely nonsignificant. Overall, it can be concluded that acute illuminance-induced NIF effects on subjective alertness and vitality as well as objectively measured vigilance in the morning are significantly moderated by season. Possibly, these greater illuminance-induced benefits during the morning sessions in autumn/winter compared to spring occurred due to increased responsiveness to bright light exposure as a function of a relatively low prior light dose in autumn/winter.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects on physical performance of three levels of energy intake during a 5-day period of prolonged physical exercise and relative sleep deprivation. A group of 27 male soldiers were randomly assigned to three groups receiving either 1800 kcal · 24 h–1 (7560 kJ, LC), 3200 kcal · 24h–1 (13440 kJ, MC) or 4200 kcal-24h–1 (17640 kJ, HC). They took part in a 5-day combat course (CC) of heavy and continuous physical activities, with less than 4 h sleep per day. Performance capacity was tested just before and at the end of CC. Maximal oxygen uptake ( O2max) was determined during an exhausting incremental exercise test on a cycle ergometer. Anaerobic performance was measured from the time during which exercise could be maintained at supra maximal loads on a cycle ergometer. After CC, the subjects receiving LC exhibited a 14% decrease in power output at exhaustion in the incremental exercise test [from 325 (SEM 8) to 278 (SEM 9) W,P < 0.001] and a significant decrease in O2max of 8% [from 3.74 (SEM 0.06) to 3.45 (SEM 0.05) l · min–1,P<0.05]. The remaining two experimental groups demonstrated the same mechanical and metabolic performances on days 1 and 5. Anaerobic performance was not influenced by energy intake and the field course. Blood samples were obtained at rest on days 1 and 5. At the end of CC, the data demonstrated a significant decrease in blood glucose concentrated ion (P<0.01) for LC diet only. Plasma free fatty acid, blood glycerol and -OH butyrate were significantly increased in all groups, from day 1, but the values observed for LC were higher than those for the MC and HC diets. The concentrations of the anabolic hormones, insulin and testosterone, decreased in the three groups, the lowest values being observed in the LG group (P < 0.05). In conclusion, we found that only a severe energy deficit decreased physical performance during submaximal exercise. A moderate deficit between energy intake and expenditure did not affect performance. Supramaximal exercise did not appear to be influenced by energy intake and CC.  相似文献
