During the 1994/1995 Antarctic summer 20 Antarctic cod (Notothenia coriiceps) of both sexes were collected at King George Island, South Shetland Islands, Antarctica, to determine the levels of Fe, Zn,
Mn and Cu in muscle, liver, gonad and kidney. Metal levels were assessed using the inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission
spectrometry (ICP-AES) technique. The levels of Fe, Zn, Mn and Cu observed in both sexes of N. coriiceps were significantly lower in muscle tissue than in liver, kidney and gonad; the livers of males and gonads of females had
the highest levels. The differences between the sexes were significant for Zn and Mn in gonads and for Cu in liver. Despite
the modest size-range of the specimens, the Cu levels in liver, muscle and kidney were significantly inversely correlated
with female mass (P < 0.05) as was gonad Cu level and male body length. Fe mainly presented the highest concentrations and Cu and Mn the lowest
ones. Mean muscle metal levels are similar to those of hake, cod, herring and mackerel; however, the level of Fe was slightly
higher. Accumulation may occur for Fe, Zn and Mn in liver, kidney and gonad, which have higher levels than those of most prey.

Theoretical studies on the coordination stabilities, spectra and DNA-binding trend for the series of metal-varied complexes,
M(IDB)Cl2 (M = Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu and Zn; IDB = N, N -bis(2-benzimidazolylmethyl) amine), have been carried out by using the DFT/B3LYP
method and PCM model. The calculated coordination stabilities (S) for these complexes present a trend of S(Ni) > S(Co) > S(Fe)
> S(Cu) > S(Zn) > S(Mn). It has been estimated from the molecular orbital energies of the complexes that the DNA-binding affinities
(A) of the complexes are in the order of A(Zn) < A(Mn) < A(Fe) ≈ A(Co) < A(Ni) < A(Cu). The studied results indicate that
the Cu, Ni and Co complexes with large coordination stabilities present the low virtual orbitals, consequently yielding to
the favorable DNA-binding affinities. The spectral properties of excitation energies and oscillator strengths for M(IDB)Cl2 in the ultraviolet region were calculated by TD-DFT/B3LYP method. 相似文献

In this study, heavy metal content (Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb, Zn) was determined in soils and different organs of Verbascum olympicum Boiss. This species is endemic to Uluda? and spreads on destroyed areas such as: roadsides, developed building areas, ski lift stations and sheep folds. Soils and different organs (roots, stems, leaves and flowers) of plant samples were analyzed using an atomic absorption spectrophotometer for determining the element content. Heavy metal contents in soils and different organs in this species were highly correlated (P < 0.05). However, the contribution of plant organs to the accumulation capacity varied according to the metal. These results suggest that this species may be useful as a bioindicator for heavy metals. 相似文献

Since the toxicity of one metal or metalloid can be dramatically modulated by the interaction with other toxic or essential metals, studies addressing the chemical interactions between trace elements are increasingly important. In this study correlations between the main toxic (As, Cd, Hg and Pb) and nutritional essential (Ca, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Mo, Ni, Se, Zn) elements were evaluated in the tissues (liver, kidney and muscle) of 120 cattle from NW Spain, using Spearman rank correlation analysis based on analytical data obtained by ICP-AES. Although accumulation of toxic elements in cattle in this study is very low and trace essential metals are generally within the adequate ranges, there were significant associations between toxic and essential metals. Cd was positively correlated with most of the essential metals in the kidney, and with Ca, Co and Zn in the liver. Pb was significantly correlated with Co and Cu in the liver. A large number of significant associations between essential metals were found in the different tissues, these correlations being very strong between Ca, Cu, Fe, Mn, Mo and Zn in the kidney. Co was moderately correlated with most of the essential metals in the liver. In general, interactions between trace elements in this study were similar to those found in polluted areas or in experimental studies in animals receiving diets containing high levels of toxic metals or inadequate levels of nutritional essential elements. These interactions probably indicate that mineral balance in the body is regulated by important homeostatic mechanisms in which toxic elements compete with the essential metals, even at low levels of metal exposure. The knowledge of these correlations may be essential to understand the kinetic interactions of metals and their implications in the trace metal metabolism. 相似文献

Significant (P < 0.005) differences in Mn, Fe, Cu and Zn concentrations were found in different parts of eelgrass plants; i.e., roots and rhizomes, live blades, attached dead blades, and detritus. Imported vs. exported suspended particles of eelgrass blades did not differ in Mn, Fe, Cu or Zn content. Significant location effects, which varied with the type of plant tissue, were noted for Mn, Fe, Cu and Zn for three grass beds in the vicinity of Beaufort, NC. In simplified Mn, Fe, Cu and Zn budgets, eelgrass biomass is the largest biological reservoir, while eelgrass growth, senescence, and decomposition constitute the largest biological flux of these elements in this ecosystem. 相似文献

Superoxide dismutase (SOD, EC 1.15.1.1) is an important metal-containing antioxidant enzyme that provides the first line of defense against toxic superoxide radicals by catalyzing their dismutation to oxygen and hydrogen peroxide. SOD is classified into four metalloprotein isoforms, namely, Cu/Zn SOD, Mn SOD, Ni SOD and Fe SOD. The structural models of soybean SOD isoforms have not yet been solved. In this study, we describe structural models for soybean Cu/Zn SOD, Mn SOD and Fe SOD and provide insights into the molecular function of this metal-binding enzyme in improving tolerance to oxidative stress in plants. 相似文献

A new ligand N-salicyloyl-N'-o-hydroxythiobenzhydrazide (H2Sotbh) forms complexes [Mn(HSotbh)2], [Fe(Sotbh-H)(H2O)2], [M(Sotbh)] [M=Co(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II)] and [Ni(Sotbh)(H(2)O)2], which were characterized by various physico-chemical techniques. M?ssbauer spectrum of [Fe(Sotbh-H)(H2O)2] reveals the quantum admixture of 5/2 and 3/2 spin-states. Mn(II), Cu(II) and Ni(II) complexes were observed to inhibit the growth of tumor in vitro, whereas, Fe(III), Co(II), Zn(II) complexes did not. In vivo administration of Mn(II), Cu(II) and Ni(II) resulted in prolongation of survival of tumor bearing mice. Tumor bearing mice administered with Mn(II), Cu(II) and Ni(II) complexes showed reversal of tumor growth associated induction of apoptosis in lymphocytes. The paper discusses the possible mechanisms and therapeutic implication of the H2Sotbh and its metal complexes in tumor regression and tumor growth associated immunosuppression. 相似文献

High-performance ion chromatography and inductively coupled plasma–mass spectrometry methods have been applied to estimate the content of Cd, Co, Cu, Fe, Mn, Zn, and Ni in whole blood, plasma, and urine of obese and nonobese children. The study was conducted on a group of 81 Polish children of age 6–17 years (37 males, 44 females). Obese children were defined as those with body mass index (BMI) >95th percentile in each age–gender-specific group. Statistical testing was done by the use of nonparametric tests (Kruskal–Wallis's and Mann–Whitney's U) and Spearman's correlation coefficient. Significant correlations appeared for control group in plasma (Mn–Cd, Ni–Co), urine (Cu–Co), and blood (Fe–Cu), while for obese patients in plasma (Cd–Mn, Ni–Cu, Ni–Zn) and urine (Fe–Cd, Co–Mn). Sex criteria did not influence correlations between metals' content in plasma and urine of obese patients. Metals' abundance was correlated in non-corresponding combinations of body fluids. Rare significant differences between content of metals according to sex and the type of body fluids were discovered: Zn in plasma from obese patients of both sexes, and Zn, Co, and Mn in blood, Mn in plasma from healthy subjects. Negative correlations between BMI and Zn in blood, Cu in plasma, and Fe in urine were discovered for girls (control group). Positive correlation between Co content in plasma and BMI was discovered for obese boys. The changes in metals' content in body fluids may be indicators of obesity. Content of zinc, copper, and cobalt should be monitored in children with elevated BMI to avoid deficiency problems. 相似文献

The present study describes several features of the aquatic environment with the emphasis on the total vs. filter-passing fraction (FP) of heavy metals in microhabitats of two typical deep-sea vent organisms: the filter-feeder, symbiont-bearing Bathymodiolus and the grazer shrimps Rimicaris/Mirocaris from the Mid-Atlantic Ridge (MAR). The concentration of 10 trace elements: Al, Mn, Co, Cu, Mo, Cd, Fe, Zn, Pb and Hg was explored highlighting common and distinctive features among the five hydrothermal vent sites of the MAR: Menez Gwen, Lucky Strike, Rainbow, Saldanha, and Menez Hom that are all geo-chemically different when looking at the undiluted hydrothermal fluid composition. The drop off in the percentage of FP from total metal concentration in mussel and/or shrimp inhabited water samples (in mussel beds at Rainbow, for instance, FP fraction of Fe was below 23%, Zn 24 %, Al 65%, Cu 70%, and Mn 89%) as compared to non-inhabited areas (where 94% of the Fe, 90% of the Zn, 100% of the other metals was in the FP fraction) may indicate an influence of vent organisms on their habitat’s chemistry, which in turn may determine adaptational strategies to elevated levels of toxic heavy metals. Predominance of particulate fraction over the soluble metals, jointly with the morphological structure and elemental composition of typical particles in these vent habitats suggest a more limited metal bioavailability to vent organisms as previously thought. In addition, it is evoked that vent invertebrates may have developed highly efficient metal-handling strategies targeting particulate phase of various metals present in the mixing zones that enables their survival under these extreme conditions. 相似文献

In previous studies based on indirect procedures, we reported that Mg deficit increased the bioavailability of a number of elements such as calcium, zinc, iron, copper, manganese and decreased selenium absorption. The present study was designed to verify these findings by direct methods. We investigated the effect of dietary magnesium deficiency on enterocyte Ca, Fe, Zn, Cu, Mn and Se concentrations. Male Wistar rats were fed a Mg-deficient diet (129 mg Mg/kg food) for 70 days. Whole enterocytes from the upper jejunum were isolated and Ca, Fe, Zn, Cu, Mn and Se were determined. The results were compared with findings in a control group that was pair-fed with an identical diet except that it covered this species's nutritional requirements for Mg (480 mg Mg/kg food). The Mg-deficient diet significantly increased enterocyte content of Ca, Fe, Zn, Cu and Mn; however, we found no significant changes in the Se content of these cells. The effect and accumulation of cadmium (Cd) in lettuce grown by means of the hydroponic technique was investigated by multivariate analysis, and was found to be affected by the concentration of other trace elements. 1989年3—10月对江苏滨海废黄河口互花米草初级生产的测定为总生物量(干重)净增3154.8gm~(-2)·a~(-1)。对盐沼中Fe、Cu、Mn、Zn的动态研究表明,Fe、Mn的年变化与互花米草的生物量变化较趋一致,7—8月份Fe、Mn的供应不足也许是米草生长的限制因子;9月的Zn峰可能与生殖生长有关;至于7月的Cu峰是否与强化呼吸有关,还值得探讨。对高生产力的互花米草盐沼资源应予以重视,本文提出了有关开发利用的构想。 相似文献

The goal of this article was to establish reference ranges of the concentration of trace elements in human serum and to compare
these results with those reported by other authors. We describe the sample preparation and measurement conditions that allow
the rapid, precise, and accurate determination of Al, As, B, Be, Cd, Co, Cu, Fe, Li, Mn, Mo, Ni, Rb, Se, Sr, and Zn in human
serum samples (n=110) by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Accuracy and precision were determined by analyzing three
reconstituted reference serum samples by comparison with other methods and by the standard addition procedure.
The advantages of the ICP-MS method include short time of analysis of the elements mentioned, low detection limit, high precision,
and high accuracy. Disadventages include a high risk of contamination due to the presence of some of the elements of interest
in the environment, the relatively delicate sample handling, and the high cost of the equipment. 相似文献
