Zusammenfassung An Laboratoriumszuchten vonReticulitermes lucifugus Rossi undReticulitermes flavipes Kollar (aus den Hamburger Befallsgebieten) werden Beobachtungen zur Biologie der Ersatzgeschlechtstiere mitgeteilt. Für die Durchführung dieser Beobachtungen wurden besondere Schaunester eingerichtet. Folgende Punkte der beobachteten Verhaltensweisen werden hier hervorgehoben: Die Nymphen der Ersatzgeschlechtstiere sammeln sich stets in Herden von 80–100 Einzeltieren und werden von einer Gruppe Arbeiter (als Hütehunde) bewacht. Die Arbeiter halten die Nymphen auf einem engen Raum zusammen und versuchen andere Nestgenossen von den Nymphen fernzuhalten. Alle ein bis zwei Tage wechseln die Herden ihren Standort. Deposition of amyloid peptide in human brain in the form of senile plaques is a neuropathological hallmark of Alzheimers disease (AD). Levels of a phospholipid breakdown product, glycerophosphocholine (GPC), also increase in AD brain. The effect of GPC on amyloid (1–40) peptide (A) aggregation in PBS buffer was investigated by circular dichroism and fluoresence spectroscopy; interactions of A and GPC with the intact erythrocyte membrane was examined by fluoresence spectroscopy. Fluorescamine labeled A studies indicate GPC enhances A aggregation. CD spectroscopy reveals that A in the presence of GPC adopts 14% more -sheet structure than does A alone. Fluorescamine anisotropy measurements show that GPC and A interact in the phospholipid head-group region of the erythrocyte membrane. In summary, both soluble A and GPC insert into the phospholipid head-group region of the membrane where they interact leading to -sheet formation in soluble A which enhances A aggregation.  相似文献

Résumé Nous avons fait élever des larves d'Anergates atratulus par des ouvrières deMyrmica laevinodis à 22°C. Pour y parvenir, il n'est pas utile de faire hivernerensemble les larves d'Anergates et les ouvrières deMyrmica. La présence de larves autochtones n'empêche pas lesMyrmica d'élever des larves d'Anergates. Dans toutes les expériences lesMyrmica ont été soumises au fridavant de recevoir des larves d'Anergates. Aucune reine deMyrmica n'a été utilisée dans ces expériences.Sur les 64 larves d'Anergates que nous avons utilisées, 38 se sont transformées en imagos. C'est au début de l'adoption et au moment des métamorphoses que périrent la plupart des 26Anergates perdus. Les femelles vécurent en général 2 ou 3 jours et cherchèrent très tôt à quitter le nid natal. Les mâles vécurent 2 à 3 semaines.
Summary Larvae ofAnergates atratulus were experimentally reared by workers ofMyrmica laevinodis, at 22°C. An overwintering of both larvae ofAnergates and workers ofMyrmica is not necessary for the success of that experiment. The presence of larvae ofMyrmica does not keep theMyrmica from rearing larvae ofAnergates. The workers ofMyrmica have been cooled, in all the experiments, before receiving larvae ofAnergates. No queen ofMyrmica have been used in that experiments.38 of the 64 larvae ofAnergates used became imagos. Most of the 26 lostAnergates died at the beginning of the adoption and during the metamorphosis. The females lived generally 2 or 3 days and tried, very early, to leave their native nest. The males lived 2 or 3 weeks.

We present a detailed behavioral analysis of the signals involved in recruitment of 11 syntopic Polyrhachis species from West Malaysia. We found a considerable variety of recruitment techniques, including social carrying behavior, tandem running, group recruitment, and a technique which we call leader-independent trail communication. The latter mode superficially resembles chemical mass communication (sensu Wilson, 1962). All these recruitment techniques involve mechanical invitation behavior inside the nest, comprising back-and-forth jerking or pulling movement often combined with a sideways waggling. However, not in all cases of leader-independent trail communication is a mechanical invitation behavior obligatory. The trail pheromone of all investigated Polyrhachis species originates from the hindgut. Only in the tandem running P. proxima do additional secretions from the poison gland appear to be involved in tandem calling.  相似文献

A census of four species of syntopic parrots was carried out using distance sampling methods on São Sebastião island, SE Brazil. Most of the 33593 ha island is covered by mature and secondary Atlantic rainforest. Almost 80% of these forests are within the Ilhabela Park. Although the species counted have marked differences in size and weight, density (individuals/km2) and estimated population size in 23500 ha of well-preserved forests were similar: Amazona farinosa (13.82±5.94; 3247±1395), Pionus maximiliani (15.79±7.04; 3712±1654), Brotogeris tirica (15.05±4.87; 3537±1143) and Pyrrhura frontalis (13.06±5.53; 3068±1298). Encounter rates of Forpus crassirostris and Pionopsitta pileata were very low, which suggests that there is only a small population of these species on the island. The São Sebastião forests still support healthy populations of parrots. Although woodpecker population estimates on the island are large enough to provide nesting sites for parrots, competition for holes with other secondary cavity nesters such as toucans, flycatchers and tytiras, and the selective cutting of dead trees for canoe construction, which is a common practice on the island, may limit hole availability for parrots.  相似文献

Our recent studies have revealed the existence of two distinct Gal: 3-O-sulfotransferases capable of acting on the C-3 position of galactose in a Core 2 branched structure, e.g., Gal14GlcNAc16(Gal13)GalNac1OBenzyl as acceptor to give 3-O-sulfoGal14GlcNAc13(Gal13)GalNAc1OB 20 and Gal14GlcNAc16(3-O-sulfoGal13)GalNAc1OB 23. We herein report the synthesis of these two compounds and also that of other modified analogs that are highly specific acceptors for the two sulfotransferases. Appropriately protected 1-thio-glycosides 7, 8, and 10 were employed as glycosyl donors for the synthesis of our target compounds.  相似文献

Peter Woolcock, in Ruse's Darwinian Meta-Ethics: A Critique, argues that the subjectivist (nonobjectivist) Darwinian metaethics proposed by Michael Ruse (in Taking Darwin Seriously) cannot work, because the illusion of objectivity that Ruse claims is essential to morality breaks down when it is recognized as illusion, and there then remain no good reasons for acknowledging or following moral obligations. Woolcock, however, is mistaken in supposing that moral behaviour requires rational motivation. Ruse's Darwinian metaethical analysis shows why such objective support for morality is neither plausible nor necessary; and when that is recognized, it can also be seen that Ruse's proposed illusion of moral objectivity is superfluous.  相似文献

Summary. We investigated the influence of hypothyroidism on homocysteine metabolism in rats, focusing on a hypothetical deficient synthesis of FAD by riboflavin kinases. Animals were allocated in control group (n=7), thyroidectomized rats (n=6), rats with diet deficient in vitamin B2, B9, B12, choline and methionine (n=7), thyroidectomized rats with deficient diet (n=9). Homocysteine was decreased in operated rats (2.6±1.01 vs. 4.05±1.0mol/L, P=0.02) and increased in deficient diet rats (29.56±4.52 vs. 4.05±1.0mol/L, P=0.001), when compared to control group. Erythrocyte-Glutathione-Reductase-Activation-Coefficient (index of FAD deficiency) was increased in thyroidectomized or deficient diet rats (P=0.004 for both). Methylenetetrahydrofolate-reductase and methionine-synthase activities were decreased in thyroidectomized rats but not in those subjected to deficient diet. Cystathionine--synthase was increased only in operated rats. Taken together, these results showed a defective re-methylation in surgical hypothyroidism, which was due in part to a defective synthesis of vitamin B2 coenzymes. This defective pathway was overcompensated by the increased Cystathionine--synthase activity.  相似文献

In bitterlings (Acheilognathinae) C- and Ag-banding karyotypes of 6 species-subspecies collected in China and South Korea were analyzed. The chromosomal constitution of 2n=46 (4SM+42ST) in Rhodeus atremius fangi was quite different from that of 2n=48 (8M+20SM+20ST) in other species-subspecies in Rhodeus. It was concluded from the analysis of banded chromosomes that the increase in number of ST during the karyotype change from 2n=48 to 2n=46 was achieved by a series of pericentric inversions from 24 M-SM to 24 ST, and the decrease in the diploid number was caused by an additional tandem fusion of 4 ST chromosomes, forming a new ST pair in the 2n=46 karyotype. The karyotype of Tanakia koreensis, T. signifer, and Acheilognathus macropterus is 2n=48 (8M+20SM+20ST), 2n=48 (8M+20SM+14–16ST+4–6 A), 2n=44 (14M+16SM+14ST), respectively. In R. ocellatus ocellatus, T. koreensis, T. signifer and A. macropterus, karyotype changes from 2n=48 to 2n=44 due to centric fusion and inversion have also been estimated. It was suggested that C-banding heterochromatin was greatly concerned with the karyotype evolution in bitterlings.  相似文献

Phosphorylase kinase (PhK) from skeletal muscle is a structurally complex, highly regulated, hexadecameric enzyme of subunit composition ()4. Previous studies have revealed that the activity of its catalytic subunit is controlled by alterations in quaternary structure initiated at allosteric and covalent modification sites on PhK's three regulatory subunits; however, changes in the conformation of the holoenzyme initiated by the catalytic subunit have been more difficult to document. In this study a monoclonal antibody (mAb 79) has been generated against isolated subunit and used as a conformational probe of that subunit. The epitope recognized by this antibody is within the catalytic core of the subunit, between residues 100 and 240, and monovalent fragments of the antibody inhibit the catalytic activity of the holoenzyme, the -calmodulin binary complex, and the free subunit. Activation of PhK by a variety of mechanisms known or thought to act through its regulatory subunits (phosphorylation, ADP binding, or alkaline pH) increased the binding of the holoenzyme to immobilized mAb 79, indicating that activation by any of these distinct mechanisms involves repositioning of the portion of the catalytic domain of the subunit containing the epitope for mAb 79. The activating ligand Mg2+ also stimulated the binding of the PhK holoenzyme to immobilized mAb 79, as well as the binding of mAb 79 to immobilized subunit. Thus, Mg2+ increases the accessibility of the mAb 79 epitope in both the isolated subunit and in the holoenzyme. Our results suggest that previously reported influences of Mg2+ on the quaternary structure of the PhK holoenzyme are directly mediated by the subunit.  相似文献

The general attributes of ecosystems are examined and a naturally occurring reference ecosystem is established, comparable with the isolated system of classical thermodynamics. Such an autonomous system with a stable, periodic input of energy is shown to assume certain structural characteristics that have an identifiable thermodynamic basis. Individual species tend to assume a state of least dissipation; this is most clearly evident in the dominant species (the species with the best integration of energy acquisition and conservation). It is concluded that ecosystem structure results from the antagonistic interaction of two nearly equal forces. These forces have their origin in the Principle of Most Action (least dissipation or least entropy production) and the universal Principle of Least Action. Most action is contingent on the equipartitioning of the energy available, through uniform interaction of similar individuals. The trend to Least action is contingent on increased dissipation attained through increasing diversity and increasing complexity. These principles exhibit a basic asymmetry. Given the operation of these opposing principles over evolutionary time, it is argued that ecosystems originated in the vicinity of thermodynamic equilibrium through the resonant amplification of reversible fluctuations. On account of the basic asymmetry the system was able to evolve away from thermodynamic equilibrium provided that it remained within the vicinity of ergodynamic equilibrium (equilibrium maintained by internal work, where the opposing forces are equal and opposite).At the highest level of generalization there appear to be three principles operating: i) maximum association of free-energy and materials; ii) energy conservation (deceleration of the energy flow) through symmetric interaction and increased homogeneity; and iii) the principle of least action which induces acceleration of the energy flow through asymmetrical interaction. The opposition and asymmetry of the two forces give rise to natural selection and evolution.  相似文献

Six specimens (2 flexion larvae: 9.5–10.4mm in notochord length; 4 postflexion larvae: 12.3–18.2mm in standard length) collected from the western North Pacific are tentatively ascribed to the genus Uncisudis of the tribe Lestidiini of the subfamily Paralepidinae (Paralepididae) in sharing remarkably elongate and filamentous pelvic fin rays, their tips reaching the origin of the anal fin. They are described as Uncisudis posteropelvis sp. nov. in uniquely having the insertion of pelvic fins closer to the origin of anal fin than to the posterior end of dorsal fin base among lestidiine species. Addition to this character, the new species has remarkably elongate and filamentous dorsal fin rays, the short distance between anus and origin of anal fin (4.2–6.1% of standard length, SL), the posteriorly located pelvic fins (prepelvic length 69.4–71.5% SL), dorsal fin rays 10, anal fin rays 28–29, myomeres 41–42+38–40=80–81 (vertebrae 38+41=79), and peritoneal pigment spots 11–12. The occurrence of larvae differing in pigment pattern from the present new species suggests another undescribed species of Uncisudis in the western South Pacific.  相似文献

Within evolutionary biology a distinction is frequently made between proximate and ultimate causes. One apparently plausible interpretation of this dichotomy is that proximate causes concern processes occurring during the life of an organism while ultimate causes refer to those processes (particularly natural selection) that shaped its genome. But ultimate causes are not sought through historical investigations of an organisms lineage. Rather, explanations referring to ultimate causes typically emerge from functional analyses. But these functional analyses do not identify causes of any kind, much less ultimate ones. So-called ultimate explanations are not about causes in any sense resembling those of proximate explanations. The attitude, implicit in the term ultimate cause, that these functional analyses are somehow superordinate to those involving proximate causes is unfounded. Ultimate causes are neither ultimate nor causes.  相似文献

An 1,3-fucosyltransferase was purified 3000-fold from mung bean seedlings by chromatography on DE 52 cellulose and Affigel Blue, by chromatofocusing, gelfiltration and affinity chromatography resulting in an apparently homogenous protein of about 65 kDa on SDS-PAGE. The enzyme transferred fucose from GDP-fucose to the Asn-linkedN-acetylglucosaminyl residue of an N-glycan, forming an 1,3-linkage. The enzyme acted upon N-glycopeptides and related oligosaccharides with the glycan structure GlcNAc2Man3 GlcNAc2. Fucose in 1,6-linkage to the asparagine-linked GlcNAc had no effect on the activity. No transfer to N-glycans was observed when the terminal GlcNAc residues were either absent or substituted with galactose.N-acetyllactosamine, lacto-N-biose andN-acetylchito-oligosaccharides did not function as acceptors for the 1,3-fucosyltransferase.The transferase exhibited maximal activity at pH 7.0 and a strict requirement for Mn2+ or Zn2+ ions. The enzyme's activity was moderately increased in the presence of Triton X-100. Summary Southern blotting and DNA sequencing after polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification provide evidence for the frequent occurrence (in 7 out of 24 chromosomes) of a short conversion GA in the 3 end of the human fetal A globin gene. This short conversion is characterized by the presence, 3 nucleotides downstream from the termination codon of the A gene, of the TCAC sequence that is normally present at the equivalent position at the 3 end of the G gene; it is therefore identical to a conversion already described. Interestingly, we have found that this conversion is associated with the presence of theHindIII polymorphic restriction site in the A IVS2, occuppying an equivalent position in both the G and A genes. Our observations strengthen the hypothesis that the presence of the HindIII polymorphic restriction site in A IVS2 and the presence of the sequence TCAC at the 3 end of the A gene might be the result of a single conversion event.  相似文献

The genes were cloned for the two apoprotein subunits, and ,of phycocyanin from the cyanobacterium Spirulina maxima = Arthrospiramaxima) strain F3. The - and -subunit gene-coding regionscontain 489 bp and 519 bp, respectively. The -subunit gene is upstreamfrom the -subunit gene, with a 111-bp segment separating them.Similarities between the -subunits of S. maxima and nine othercyanobacteria were between 58% and 99%, as were those between the -subunits. Neuronic or decision equations, first proposed as a mathematical model of neural activity, have shown, after their exact, compact solution was found, typical behaviours that make them natural tools for General Systems studies. It is shown here that their mathematical investigation is remarkably furthered by generalizing the triangular inequality to polygonal ones. These permit the immediate computation of the tensorial expansion of linearly separable boolean functions, and exhibit clearly the connection between their continuous and discontinuous aspects.  相似文献

Les ouvrières deSolenopsis détruisirent une partie de ces larves mais nourrirent celles qu'elles épargnèrent; ces dernières grossirent lentement pendant cinq à six mois, sans atteindre le stade prénymphe. Lorsque les ouvrières deS. fugax et les larves deL. nylanderi furent soumises ensemble à un hivernage préalable, elles donnèrent les mêmes résultats que sans hivernage. La présence d'une jeune reine deSolenopsis fut défavorable aux larves deLeptothorax.Inversement,L. nylanderi fut capable d'élever, à la température de 22°C, des larves deS. fugax et de les amener jusqu'au stade adulte. En présence de leurs propres larves, les ouvrières deL. nylanderi détruisirent tapidement toutes les larves deS. fugax introduites dans leur nid. D'autre part, un jeune couvain deLeptothorax remplaçait plus ou moins rapidement les larves deLeptothorax enlevées au préalable; sa présence était alors défavorable au développement des larves deSolenopsis. Un hivernage en début d'expérience fut plutôt favorable auxS. fugax, de même que la présence d'une reine féconde deLeptothorax. LesSolenopsis ainsi obtenus n'ont pas vécu plus de sept semaines. Ils étaient tous de caste ouvrière et de taille très petite.
Summary When its own eggs and larvae missed,Solenopsis fugax bred larvae ofLeptothorax nylanderi, at a temperature of 22°C. TheSolenopsis workers killed some of this larvae and fed the others; these slowly grew bigger during five or six months but never reached the pre-pupa stage. The result was the same if the workers ofS. fugax and the larvae ofL. nylanderi overwintered together or not at all. A youngSolenopsis queen being there was noxious to the larvae ofLeptothorax.On the contrary,L. nylanderi has been able to breed larvae ofS. fugax up to the imago stage, at a temperature of 22°C. When its own larvae were in the nest, together with larvae ofS. fugax, the workers ofL. nylanderi killed the larvae ofS. fugax. On the other hand, new eggs and young larvae ofLeptothorax had to replace, more or less quickly, the larvae which had been taken away, and that was noxious to the growth ofSolenopsis larvae. An overwintering at the beginning of the experiment was rather favourable toS. fugax as was the presence of a fecundLeptothorax queen. TheSolenopsis thus obtained lived no longer than seven weeks. They all were workers and very small.

Summary The distribution of different laminin polypeptides, type VII collagen and tenascin has been studied in adult and foetal colorectal mucosa by using the indirect immunofluorescence technique. Immunoreactivity for laminin 1 chain was located to basement membranes of epithelia, muscularis mucosae, and blood vessels, respectively in different segments of adult colon and rectum. Laminin 1 and 1 chains were additionally expressed in lamina propria. Laminin 2 chain was also found in lamina propria around the pericyptal fibrollasts. Immunoreactivity for laminin 2 chain was restricted to basement membranes in the muscularis mucosae and arteries. Laminin 3 and 3 chains, suggestive for laminin-5, were confined especially to surface epithelial basement membranes. Immunoreactivity for type VII collagen was confined to basement membrane of surface epithelium in a punctate manner, while that for tenascin was seen slightly more broadly in the basement membrane zone and also in the muscular layer. The distribution of laminin chains in 16-week-foetal colon mostly resembled that of corresponding adult tissue, although immunoreactivities for laminin 2 and 2 chains were lacking. Type VII collagen and the high molecular weight isoform of tenascin also absent from the foetal colon. The results show that the basement membrane of the surface epithelium of colon and rectum express the components of epithelial adhesion complex, laminin-5 (3-3-2) and type VII collagen, resembling in this respect small intestine and stomach while laminin-2 (2-1-1) appears to be associated with pericryptal fibroblasts, and laminin-1 (1-1-1) widely in most basement membranes.  相似文献

Hybridizations ofElymus nutans andE. jacquemontii were carried out with one species ofPseudoroegneria (S genome), and 20Elymus species, each containing either of the SH, SY, SYH, or SYW genomes. Chromosome configurations were analysed at metaphase I of the two target taxa and their interspecific hybrids. It is concluded that (i)E. nutans is an allohexaploid containing the SYH genomes, andE. jacquemontii is an allotetraploid having the SY genomes; (ii) the genomic affinity is associated with the geographic distance between the species studied; (iii) minor genomic structural rearrangements have occurred within the hexaploid taxon ofE. nutans.  相似文献
