External morphology of antennal sensilla on female and male Trichogramma australicum (Hymenoptera : Trichogrammatidae) was examined using scanning electron microscopy. Antennae show strong sexual dimorphism in structure and types of sensilla. The female antenna displays 14 types of sensilla: basiconic capitate peg sensilla (types 1 and 2), campaniform sensilla, chaetica sensilla (types 1–3), coeloconic sensilla, falcate sensilla, placoid sensilla (types 1 and 2), styloconic sensilla and trichoid sensilla (types 1–3). The male antenna displays 12 types of sensilla: basiconic capitate peg sensilla (type 2), campaniform sensilla, chaetica sensilla (types 1–5), coeloconic sensilla, placoid sensilla (type 1), and trichoid sensilla (types 3–5). Falcate and styloconic sensilla occur only on the female antenna. Both sensilla probably are associated with host examination, host discrimination and oviposition behaviour. Male antennal trichoid sensilla types 4 and 5 are probably associated with courtship behaviour, because these types occur only on the male. We propose the term “falcate sensilla” for a unique female antennal sensilla; the number of falcate sensilla may be used for identification of Trichogramma spp. In addition, we report the presence of placoid sensilla type 2 and difference in structure of coeloconic sensilla in T. australicum. Variation in structure and position of antennal sensilla are discussed.  相似文献

Larvae of Dermatobia hominis 10–27 days old were collected from experimentally infected rats and their morphology was studied by scanning electron microscopy. The moult from the second to third instar occurs at 18 days, with emergence from the host at 30 days post-infection. The second-instar larvae bear on the pseudocephalon, antennae (coeloconic sensilla), and coeloconic and basicoconic sensilla on the maxillary sensory complex. The thoracic segments bear small backwardly-directed spines anteriorly and ventral trichoid and campaniform sensilla. The first four abdominal segments have small and large backwardly-directed spines that are absent on segments five and six. The seventh and eighth abdominal segments have medium-sized forwardly-directed spines. Abdominal segments are encircled by campaniform sensilla. The terminal end of the eighth abdominal segment bears the anus, prominent anal lobes and two spiracular openings on each spiracular plate. Spiracular plates show a radial sun ray pattern. The rear abdomen also bears an ecdysal aperture, several pores and eight coeloconic sensilla. Although there are slight morphological differences, the spines (predominantly flat and thorn-like) and sensilla (campaniform and coeloconic) of the third-instar larvae show a similar arrangement to that of second-instar larvae. Thoracic trichoid sensilla are not seen in third-instar larvae. A perispiracular gland aperture is situated above each posterior spiracular opening. These morphological features are compared with those of other cuterebrid larvae.  相似文献

柑橘大实蝇Bactrocera minax(Enderlein),是柑橘的重要害虫。本文基于光学显微镜、扫描电镜、石蜡切片和透射电镜观察,对柑橘大实蝇的产卵器形态结构进行研究。结果表明,柑橘大实蝇产卵器由产卵器基节、翻缩膜和产卵针3部分组成,翻缩膜是浅黄色的柔软的细长管状结构,又分为骨化带、骨化环和膜质部3部分。骨化带表面有4条褐色的、纵向的、柔软的离散带。骨化环和膜质部表面存在小齿和无齿两种角质化鳞片,鳞片的一端与表皮连接,另外一端处于自由状态,鳞片以覆瓦状包围在骨化环和膜质部表面。骨化带和骨化环弯曲程度极低,而膜质部弯曲程度较大。产卵针由1块背片和2块腹片组成,2块腹片之间、背片与腹片之间与可折叠弯曲的柔性角质层连接。其背片两内侧均存在1个未封闭的圆环,其内部有肌肉(背腹肌)、气管、输卵管和直肠等组织或器官。产卵器上有毛形、腔锥形和钟形3种类型感受器。在产卵器收缩时,首先产卵针折叠在翻缩膜内,然后再一起折叠在基节内。因此,在成虫休息时,产卵器形成了产卵针(内层)、翻缩膜(中间层)和基节(外层)3个腹节的套叠。柑橘大实蝇的产卵器是伪产卵器,其结构或组织经过进化,从而适应其伪产卵器的外...  相似文献

The Asian citrus psyllid (ACP), Diaphorina citri Kuwayama (Hemiptera:Psyllidae), is one of the most important pests of citrus plants worldwide, due to be the dominant vector of the devastating citrus disease Huanglongbing (HLB). Selection of suitable oviposition site is a crucial event of phytophagous insect life. Usually, the chemical and physical characteristics of a host plant were recognized by sensilla on the ovipositor and tarsi of a phytophagous insect after settling on a plant surface. In this study, the morphology, number, and distribution pattern of the ovipositorial and tarsal sensilla of adult female psyllids, were observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques. The effect of these sensilla on oviposition was investigated by sensilla deactivation using hydrochloric acid (HCl). The results showed that sensilla trichoid (ST), sensilla chaetica (ChS) and sensilla basiconica (SB) were distributed on ovipositor, while sensilla trichoid (ST) were distributed on the external genitalia. Sensilla chaetica (ChS) and basiconica (SB) were mainly distributed on the end of the ovipositor back plate, and on the base of the sternum. On tarsus, sensilla trichoid (ST), sensilla chaetica (ChS), sensilla triangular (TeS) and sensilla ear ball (SE) were observed. However, whole tarsal segments were covered with Böhm's mane, which was arranged in a circular line. Oviposition assay revealed that a significantly lower number of eggs were laid on the Murraya paniculata seedlings confined by the psyllids with deactivated ovipositorial sensilla followed by protarsal sensilla, mesotarsal sensilla and hindtarsal sensilla. These results suggested that the ovipositorial and tarsal sensilla of citrus psyllid have an important role in the oviposition.  相似文献

Abstract. First-instar larvae of Dermatobia hominis collected 1, 4 and 7 days after having penetrated experimentally infected rats, were studied by scanning electron microscope (SEM) observation. On the pseudocephalon there are basiconic and trichoid sensilla (antennal sensory complex), and basiconic, coeloconic and campaniform sensilla (maxillary sensory complex). The thoracic segments bear several rows of small, backwardly pointed, spines, and trichoid, campaniform, coeloconic and pit sensilla. The anterior spiracle is a minute opening. Both small and large spines directed posteriorly are on the first to fourth abdominal segments, which also bear coeloconic and companiform sensilla. These sensilla are present on the unarmed (fifth and sixth) and armed (seventh) abdominal segments. The seventh and the last (eight) abdominal segments have forwardly directed spines. Each spiracular plate has two spiracular openings and four spatulate-like structures called sun rays. The anus and the coeloconic sensilla are proeminent on the last segment. The results are compared with other parasitic dipteran larvae, and emphasize that the multiple types of sensilla on D. hominis larva may have importance in establishing the parasitic phase of the life cycle of this insect.  相似文献

Tetrastichus sp. (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae) is a primary parasitoid of the Metisa plana (Lepidoptera: Psychidae), an oil palm bagworm. The sensilla on the surface of the antenna and ovipositor of Tetrastichus sp. were examined using a scanning electron microscope. The antennae of both male and female Tetrastichus sp. are geniculate in shape and hinged at the scape-pedicel joint. The female antenna is about 200 µm longer than the male antenna. However, the male antenna has an additional flagellomere compared to the female antenna. In total, eight different types of antennal sensilla were observed on the antenna of Tetrastichus sp.: trichoid sensilla type 1, 2, 3, 4, placoid sensilla type 1 and 2, basiconic sensilla, and campaniform sensilla. The antenna of the female Tetrastichus sp. lacks placoid sensilla type 2 and campaniform sensilla. The distribution and abundance of the antennal sensilla were compared between the male and female Tetrastichus sp. and discussed. On the ovipositor stylet of Tetrastichus sp., coeloconic sensilla, styloconic sensilla and campaniform sensilla were observed. Abstract. Cuticular sensilla on newly hatched larvae of Gasterophilus intestinalis De Geer (Diptera: Gasterophilidae) and Oestrus ovis (L.) were studied by scanning electron microscopy. Two types of trichoid sensilla, two types of coeloconic sensilla and a pit sensillum were present on the thoracic and abdominal segments of G. intestinalis larvae. Sensilla on larvae of O. ovis were similar although only one type of trichoid sensillum was present. Total number of sensilla were higher for O. ovis than for G. intestinalis (248 v . 214). Variation in numbers of sensilla is consistent with the concept that increasing numbers of sensilla are associated with increasingly complex searching behaviour required to locate suitable habitats for development.  相似文献

Pseudoligosita yasumatsui Viggiani and Subba Rao 1978 (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae) is a common egg parasitoid of rice insect pests. The surface morphology of the antenna and ovipositor on P. yasumatsui was examined using scanning electron microscopy. The antenna of P. yasumatsui is geniculate in shape, hinged at the scape-pedicel joint, approximately 190 μm in length and consists of seven antennomeres. In total, the male and female antennae have ten different types of sensilla: trichoid sensilla type 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, campaniform sensilla, basiconic sensilla, and placoid sensilla type 1 and 2. The flagellum of the female antenna is covered with cuticular pores, which are absent on the male antennal flagellum. The distal extremity of its ovipositor stylet has campaniform sensilla and styloconic sensilla. Trichoid sensilla found on its apical abdomen part may play a role in the host detection and egg placement. The types and distribution of antennal and ovipositor sensilla on the parasitoid were discussed.  相似文献

The second-instar larva of the bot fly Gasterophilus nasalis (L.) (Diptera: Gasterophilidae) is described for the first time, based on scanning electron microscope (SEM) studies. On the pseudocephalum the larva bears an antenomaxillary sensory complex formed by the antenna (coeloconic sensilla) and the maxillary palp with a set of six coeloconic sensilla and four basiconica sensilla. The oral opening is latero-posteriorly limited by small spines, and exhibits strongly ornamented maxillae and mandibles. The thoracic and abdominal segments are circled by two bands, each with two rows (except the last segment that has one row) of backwardly pointed spines, and have cuticular depressions. Trichoid and campaniform sensilla surround the larval segments. The anterior spiracular opening is a small aperture. The terminal end of the eighth abdominal segment shows a spiracular cavity, lateral tubercles, eight basiconic and two trichoid sensilla. Each spiracular plate has two slightly curved slits, each with a serrated rima. There is a probable ecdysial scar. The findings of this ultrastructural study are compared with those other of larval flies.  相似文献

半闭弯尾姬蜂和菜蛾盘绒茧蜂是两种重要的小菜蛾寄生蜂.采用扫描电镜对该两种寄生蜂雌蜂产卵器上的感受器的形态和超微结构进行了观察和研究,结果显示半闭弯尾姬蜂和菜蛾盘绒茧蜂的产卵器形态结构基本相同,都是由两个独立的腹产卵瓣和两个愈合在一起的背产卵瓣包围形成产卵道,与其它种类的寄生蜂相似.借背产卵瓣上的脊与腹产卵瓣的沟连锁在一起,腹产卵瓣可以沿背产卵瓣上的脊前后相对滑动.在半闭弯尾姬蜂产卵器上观察到1种钟形感器、2种腔锥感器、浅凹状感器和分泌毛孔.在菜蛾盘绒茧蜂产卵器上同样观察到了这几种感器,但菜蛾盘绒茧蜂产卵器端部的钟形感器突起较狭长,顶部开有气孔.此外菜蛾盘绒茧蜂产卵器上还存在第3种腔锥感器,其中央突起较低而长,表面有网孔.对各种感受器的形态和分布进行了描述,并对其功能进行了探讨,认为半闭弯尾姬蜂的产卵器较细长,且刺突部位有6个倒钩状突起,背、腹产卵瓣上分布更多的感受器,显示出更强的寄主搜寻定位和产卵寄生能力.  相似文献

A comparison was performed of the antennal sensilla of females of four chalcid wasp species Ceratosolen emarginatus Mayr, 1906, Sycophaga sp., Philotrypesis longicaudata Mayr, 1906, and Sycoscapter roxburghi Joseph, 1957, which are specific and obligatory associated with Ficus auriculata (Lour, 1790). The four species exhibit different oviposition strategies in the fig ovules where their offspring hatch and develop. Antennal sensilla morphology was evaluated using scanning electron microscopy. Females of the four species present 11 morphologically similar types of sensilla: trichoid sensilla, sensilla obscura, chaetica sensilla 1 and 2, which all have mechanosensory functions; uniporous basiconic sensilla, which are presumably contact chemosensilla; basiconic capitate peg sensilla, coeloconic sensilla 1, multiporous basiconic and placoid sensilla, which may be regarded as olfactory sensilla, and coeloconic sensilla 2 and 3, which are presumed to be proprioreceptors or pressure receptors. The four species have significant differences in the abundance and arrangement of trichoid sensilla and chaetica sensilla 1 on the flagellum. The coeloconic sensilla and sensilla obscura only occur on the antennae of C. emarginatus that enter figs. The chemosensilla which are presumably involved in host discrimination, i.e., basiconic sensilla, multiporous placoid sensilla and basiconic capitate peg sensilla, are similar in shape and configuration, although they present some differences in abundance. These findings provide practical information on the adaptations of fig wasps and the relationship between multisensory antennae and functions in fig wasp behaviour.  相似文献

The morphology and ultrastructure of the olfactory sensilla on the antennae and maxillary palps were investigated through scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and their responses to five volatile compounds were measured using electroantenogram (EAG) and electropalpogram (EPG) techniques in the pumpkin fruit fly, Bactrocera depressa (Shiraki; Diptera: Tephritidae). Male and female B. depressa displayed distinct morphological types of olfactory sensilla in the antennae and maxillary palps, with predominant populations of trichoid, basiconic, and coeloconic sensilla. Basiconic sensilla, the most abundant type of olfactory sensilla in the antennae, could be further classified into two different types. In contrast, the maxillary palps exhibited predominant populations of a single type of curved basiconic sensilla. High‐resolution SEM observation revealed the presence of multiple nanoscale wall‐pores on the cuticular surface of trichoid and basiconic sensilla, indicating that their primary function is olfactory. In contrast, coeloconic sensilla displayed several longitudinal grooves around the sensillum peg. The TEM observation of individual antennal olfactory sensilla indicates that the basiconic sensilla are thin‐walled, while the trichoid sensilla are thick‐walled. The profile of EAG responses of male B. depressa was different from their EPG response profile, indicating that the olfactory function of maxillary palps is different from that of antennae in this species. The structural and functional variation in the olfactory sensilla between antennae and maxillary palps suggests that each plays an independent role in the perception of olfactory signals in B. depressa.  相似文献

Abstract.  The host acceptance behaviour in Aphidius ervi is investigated, assessing the role of both external and internal host-associated cues, offered to the experimental parasitoids with parafilm-made aphid dummies. The reaction to internal cues present in the host haemolymph is clearly evident, and its intensity is enhanced by external cues. Parasitoid females lay few eggs in aphid dummies filled with host haemolymph. A significant increase in the number of both oviposition reactions (host stinging) and egg laying is observed only when these dummies are coated with cornicle secretion. However, this enhancement is not observed when the aphid dummies contain distilled water. Thus, the host acceptance behaviour of A. ervi females appears to be controlled by the integration of both external and internal chemical cues. The physiological basis of this behavioural response is investigated with a detailed study on the anatomy and ultrastructure of A. ervi ovipositor. The detection of chemical cues present in the host haemolymph that act as kairomones is made possible by the presence of gustatory sensilla on the tip of the ovipositor. These sensilla consist of porous areas, reached by unbranched dendrites running inside both the lower valves (i.e. first valvulae) and the unpaired upper valve (i.e. second valvulae). The mechanosensory function during oviposition appears to be provided mostly by the basiconic sensilla found on the tip of external valves (i.e. third valvulae). A tentative functional model accounting for the observed oviposition behaviour of A. ervi is proposed.  相似文献

Stable flies, Stomoxys calcitrans L. (Diptera: Muscidae), are economically important biting flies that have caused billions of dollars in losses in the livestock industry. Field monitoring studies have indicated that olfaction plays an important role in host location. To further our understanding of stable fly olfaction, we examined the antennal morphology of adults using scanning electron microscopy techniques. Four major types of sensillum were found and classified as: (a) basiconic sensilla; (b) trichoid sensilla with three subtypes; (c) clavate sensilla, and (d) coeloconic sensilla. No significant differences between male and female flies in abundances (total numbers) of these sensillum types were observed, except for medium-sized trichoid sensilla. The distinctive pore structures found on the surface of basiconic and clavate sensilla suggest their olfactory functions. No wall pores were found in trichoid and coeloconic sensilla, which suggests that these two types of sensillum may function as mechano-receptors. Details of the distributions of different sensillum types located on the funicle of the fly antenna were also recorded. Electroantennogram results indicated significant antennal responses to host-associated compounds. The importance of stable fly olfaction relative to host and host environment seeking is discussed. This research provides valuable new information that will enhance future developments in integrated stable fly management.  相似文献

Quantitative composition of antennal sensilla was studied in different phenotypes of large fruit-tree tortrix imago. Changes in the number of sensilla were observed in individuals reared on lilac: male phenotypes AB and B differed by the number of chaetoid, coeloconic, auriculate, and basiconic sensilla; female offspring of males with AB and B phenotypes differed by the number of short trichoid sensilla and auriculate sensilla of the first type. The relationship between male phenotype and the number of sensilla as well as the impact of parental male genotype on the variation in antennal sensory system in female offspring are discussed.  相似文献

A large number of contact chemoreceptors are located on the ovipositor valves of adult female grasshoppers. These receptors play an important role in many aspects of grasshopper life such as detecting the chemical composition of the soil before and during oviposition. It is surprising, however, to find these types of receptors on the ovipositor valves of instar larvae which are not able to oviposit. Thus, these receptors may serve functions other than to search for a suitable site for egg laying. Observation under the scanning electron microscope revealed the presence of uniporous basiconic contact chemoreceptors in addition to different types of trichoid mechanoreceptors on the ovipositor valve of lubber grasshopper 3rd instar larvae. Neuroanatomical studies have shown that these sensilla are multiply innervated, containing one mechanosensory neuron and four chemosensory neurons that project locally and intersegmentally. The tip recording technique from single basiconic sensilla demonstrated mechanosensory responses to deflections of the sensillum as well as gustatory activity when in contact with different chemical solutions. The electrophysiological studies have shown that these sensilla serve as contact chemoreceptors and not as olfactory receptors.  相似文献

The antennal receptors of the adult male and female ladybird beetle, Semiadalia undecimnotata (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae), were examined by scanning and transmission electron microscopy. Twelve types of receptors were characterized and grouped into 5 morphological classes: Böhm, trichoid, coeloconic, basiconic, and chetiform sensilla. Sensory function was determined on the basis of sensillar ultrastructure and electrophysiological response. Olfactory sensilla are confined in both sexes to the 2 terminal antennal segments. In contrast, gustatory and mechanosensitive organs are present along the entire length of the antennae. Sexual dimorphism of antennal receptors is limited to the latter 2 functional classes. The principal characteristics of this dimorphism are the following: a) males possess 540 sensilla (all types), while females possess only 500; b) males exhibit 2 types of taste receptors not present in females; c) females exhibit one type of mechanoreceptor absent in males; d) the 3 sex-specific types of sensilla, which occupy the same position in males and females, are confined to the inner side of the antennae. The possible role of male-specific sensilla in intersexual communication is discussed.  相似文献

This study investigates the mechanoreceptors located on the cutting valvulae of the ovipositor of the dragonfly Aeshna cyanea (Aeshnidae), using both SEM and TEM, with the aim of providing an overview of the sensory equipment of an odonatan endophytic ovipositor. Four kinds of sensilla have been described. Notwithstanding their different external and internal morphology, they show features typical of mechanoreceptors. Three of them are evident along the external surface of the two cutting valvulae in the form of sub-spherical pegs, pit organs type 1 (holes) and pit organs type 2 (depressions), these last are similar to amphinematic scolopidia, while the fourth type is represented by subintegumental mononematic scolopidia having no direct relationship with the cuticle. In spite of their structural differences, the morphology of the described mechanoreceptors is consistent with performing a main role in allowing the perception of compression/stretching of the thick cuticle of the valvulae and their bending due to the pressure acting on the distal end of the ovipositor during substrate penetration. Such an organization is coherent with the need of endophytic Odonata to be able to evaluate the stiffness of the plant where to lay eggs.  相似文献

【目的】本研究旨在观察菊小长管蚜Macrosiphoniella sanborni各虫龄和翅型的鉴别特征,以及其触角感器的超微结构,从而为鉴别菊小长管蚜虫龄和研究菊小长管蚜感器功能以及气味识别机制提供参考。【方法】借助超景深显微镜以及扫描电子显微镜分别对各型菊小长管蚜整体形态和触角感器超微结构进行观察,并对触角感受器的数量、分布和大小进行统计和比较分析。【结果】结果表明,翅芽、腹末投影角、以及尾片等定性指标可被用于菊小长管蚜虫龄高效鉴别。尾片形状可用于区分成蚜和若蚜;翅芽有无可用于区分3和4龄若蚜的有翅蚜与无翅蚜;翅芽形状可用于区分3龄与4龄的有翅若蚜;腹末投影角可用于区分3龄和4龄的无翅若蚜;2龄若蚜与3龄若蚜可通过触角节数进行区分。菊小长管蚜触角为丝状,1和2龄若蚜触角分5节,其余龄期为6节。其触角上共有5种形态特异的感器:板形感器、腔锥形感器、毛形感器Ⅰ、毛形感器Ⅱ、钟形感器。成蚜与若蚜在触角节数、感器类型和感器数量上存在差异;有翅蚜与无翅蚜在感器类型、数量以及分布位置上也存在差异。【结论】通过翅芽、腹末投影角以及尾片发达程度等形态指标可以准确地鉴别各型菊小长管蚜;不同翅型不同虫龄的菊小长管蚜触角感器的类型、数量以及分布位置存在差异,这些差异可能直接影响着其在定位寄主植株时的行为表现。  相似文献

Contact chemoreceptors (basiconic sensilla) located on the ovipositor and genital segments of the locust serve to control the chemical features of the substrate before and during oviposition. They occur dispersed and also crowded in fields between mechanosensory exteroceptors sensitive to touch or wind (trichoid and filiform sensilla). The central nervous projections of the four chemosensory and one mechanosensory neurons from single basiconic sensilla were stained selectively, focusing on receptors on the ovipositor valves, which usually contact the substrate during the pre-oviposition probing movements. All axons and neurites from one contact chemoreceptor usually stay close together in most of their projections. Segregation occurs mainly when single axons terminate in one neuromere while the others proceed to a different neuromere or ganglion. For projections from one chemoreceptor, there is evidence neither for functional segregation of mechanosensory from chemosensory afferent terminals nor for specific segregation between different chemosensory afferents. The projections from sensilla of dorsal cuticle tend to project rather uniformly along the midline of the terminal ganglion. Comparative staining of touch- and wind-sensitive hair receptor neurons shows mostly central projections, similar to those of neighbouring contact chemoreceptors. From the typical intersegmental projections of most primary afferents and from the lack of segregation into glomerular structures, we conclude that integration of chemosensory information from the genital segments is distributed in the terminal and the 7th abdominal ganglion.  相似文献
