Effect of Water Stress on Photosynthesis and Growth in Two Teak Phenotypes   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Two teak (Tectona grandis L.f.) phenotypes differing in their leaf length/breadth ratios were subjected to water stress by withholding water supply for three weeks. Growth rates of whole plants, developing leaves (1st and 2nd from shoot apices), and 2nd and 3rd internodes were higher in broad leaved (BL) phenotype than in narrow leaved (NL) phenotype before and after imposing water stress treatment. However, the effect of water stress on these parameters was higher in the BL phenotype than in the NL one. Diurnal course of net photosynthetic rate (P N) of 3rd or 4th leaves from shoot apices measured under well-watered conditions was higher for the NL than BL phenotype. P N, stomatal conductance (g s), and transpiration rate (E) in both phenotypes were negatively affected by water stress and their decline under water stress was significantly higher in the BL than NL plants. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Spinach (Spinacia oleracea L. cv. Clermont) leaves grown in open-top chambers and exposed to three different concentrations of ozone were measured for gas exchange, chlorophyll a fluorescence, antioxidant systems, and lipid peroxidation at the end of growing season. High O3 concentration reduced Fv/Fm, indicating that the efficiency in the energy conversion of photosystem 2 (PS2) was altered. The rate of non-cyclic electron transport rate and the capacity to reduce the quinone pool were also affected. The development of non-photochemical quenching was not high enough to decrease the photon excess in the PS2. The limitation of photosynthetic activity was probably correlated with stomata closure and with an increase in intercellular CO2 concentration. Under oxidative stress, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity was stimulated in parallel with lipid peroxidation. We did not find any differences in the ascorbate (AsA) pool and ascorbate peroxidase (APX) or glutathione reductase (GR) activities between air qualities. Small, but similar responses were observed in spinach leaves exposed to ambient ozone concentration.  相似文献

Polyethylene glycol (PEG) and sorbitol (ST) have each been used inosmotically induced water stress studies in plants, however, these osmotica maynot have equivalent effects in plants. The present study was designed to examinewhether antioxidant enzyme responses in rice leaves are different for PEG and STof osmotic potential –1.5 MPa. As judged by relative watercontent, PEG treatment resulted in a higher degree of water stress in riceleaves than ST treatment. PEG treatment markedly increased lipid peroxidation, judged by malondialdehyde content, in rice leaves. However, ST treatment had noeffect on lipid peroxidation. An increase in peroxidase (POX), ascorbateperoxidase (APX) and glutathione reductase (GR) activities was observed in riceleaves treated with ST. PEG treatment had no effect on POX and APX activitiesand decreased GR activity in rice leaves. The decrease in superoxide dismutaseactivity induced by PEG was more pronounced than by ST. Cycloheximide blockedthe enhanced activities of POX, APX and GR by ST, indicating de novo synthesisof the enzymes. Results suggest that ST but not PEG treatment can up-regulateantioxidant system in rice leaves.  相似文献

Plant species capable of hyper-accumulating heavy metals are of considerable interest for phytoremediation, and differ in their ability to accumulate metals from environment. Using two brassica species (Brassica juncea and Brassica napus), nutrient solution experiments were conducted to study variation in tolerance to cadmium (Cd) toxicity based on (1) lipid peroxidation and (2) changes in antioxidative defense system in leaves of both plants (i.e., superoxide dismutase (SOD EC 1.15.1.1), catalase (CAT EC 1.11.1.6), ascorbate peroxidase (APX EC 1.11.1.11), guaiacol peroxidase (GPX EC 1.11.1.7), glutathione reductase (GR EC 1.6.4.2), levels of phytochelatins (PCs), non-protein thiols (NP-SH), and glutathione. Plants were grown in nutrient solution under controlled environmental conditions, and subjected to increasing concentrations of Cd (0, 10, 25 and 50 μM) for 15 days. Results showed marked differences between both species. Brassica napus under Cd stress exhibited increased level of lipid peroxidation, as was evidenced by the increased malondialdehyde (MDA) content in leaves. However, in Brassica juncea treated plants, MDA content remained unchanged. In Brassica napus, with the exception of GPX, activity levels of some antioxidant enzymes involved in detoxification of reactive oxygen species (ROS), including SOD, CAT, GR, and APX, decreased drastically at high Cd concentrations. By contrast, in leaves of Brassica juncea treated plants, there was either only slight or no change in the activities of the antioxidative enzymes. Analysis of the profile of anionic isoenzymes of GPX revealed qualitative changes occurring during Cd exposure for both species. Moreover, levels of NP-SH and PCs, monitored as metal detoxifying responses, were much increased in leaves of Brassica juncea by increasing Cd supply, but did not change in Brassica napus. These results indicate that Brassica juncea plants possess the greater potential for Cd accumulation and tolerance than Brassica napus.  相似文献

Net photosynthetic rate (P N) and dark respiration rate (R D) were measured in Vitis vinifera L. cvs. Dimiat 4/24 (23rd subculture), Dimiat 4/38 (22nd subculture), and Italian Riesling 3/47 (22nd subculture) on days 3, 2, and 1 (1st series) before transfer from the in vitro culture and on days 14, 15, 16 (2nd series) and 28, 29, 30 (3rd series) after the transfer. P N of in vitro and ex vitro plants was strongly affected by irradiance. P N and R D of in vitro plantlets were lower and transpiration rate (E) was higher compared to those of ex vitro plantlets. P N, R D, and E changed in the course of acclimation.  相似文献

Two-month-old healthy seedlings of a true mangrove, Bruguiera parviflora, raised from propagules in normal nursery conditions were subjected to varying concentrations of NaCl for 45 d under hydroponic culture conditions to investigate the defence potentials of antioxidative enzymes against NaCl stress imposed oxidative stress. Changes in the activities of the antioxidative enzymes catalase (CAT), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), guaiacol peroxidase (POX), glutathione reductase (GR) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) were assayed in leaves to monitor the temporal regulation. Among the oxidative stress triggered chemicals, the level of H2O2 was significantly increased while total ascorbate and total glutathione content decreased. The ratio of reduced to oxidized glutathiones, however, increased due to decreased levels of oxidized glutathione in the leaf tissue. Among the five antioxidative enzymes monitored, the APX, POX, GR and SOD specific activities were significantly enhanced at high concentration (400 mM NaCl), while the catalase activities declined, suggesting both up and downregulations of antioxidative enzymes occurred due to NaCl imposed osmotic and ionic stress. Analysis of the stress induced alterations in the isoforms of CAT, APX, POX, GR and SOD revealed differential regulations of the isoforms of these enzymes. In B. parviflora one isoform of each of Mn-SOD and Cu/Zn-SOD while three isoforms of Fe-SOD were observed by activity staining gel. Of these, only Mn-SOD and Fe-SOD2 content was preferentially elevated by NaCl treatment, whereas isoforms of Cu/Zn-SOD, Fe-SOD1 and Fe-SOD3 remained unchanged. Similarly, out of the six isoforms of POX, the POX-1,-2,-3 and -6 were enhanced due to salt stress but the levels of POX-4 and -5 remained same as in control plants suggesting preferential upregulation of selective POX isoforms. Activity staining gel revealed only one prominent band of APX and this band increased with increased salt concentration. Similarly, two isoforms of GR (GR1 and GR2) were visualized on activity staining gel and both these isoforms increased upon salt stress. In this mangrove four CAT-isoforms were identified, among which the prominent CAT-2 isoform level was maximally reduced again suggesting differential downregulation of CAT isoforms by NaCl stress. The results presented in this communication are the first report on the resolutions of isoforms APX, POX and GR out of five antioxidative enzymes studied in the leaf tissue of a true mangrove. The differential changes in the levels of the isoforms due to NaCl stress may be useful as markers for recognizing salt tolerance in mangroves. Further, detailed analysis of the isoforms of these antioxidative enzymes is required for using the various isoforms as salt stress markers. Our results indicate that the overproduction of H2O2 by NaCl treatment functions as a signal of salt stress and causes upregulation of APX, POX, GR and deactivations of CAT in B. parviflora. The concentrations of malondialdehyde, a product of lipid peroxidation and lipoxygenase activity remained unchanged in leaves treated with different concentrations of NaCl, which again suggests that the elevated levels of the antioxidant enzymes protect the plants against the activated oxygen species thus avoiding lipid peroxidation during salt stress.  相似文献

In vitro culture of long-day plant Chenopodium murale L was established. The effects of photoperiod, glucose and gibberellic acid (GA3) on flowering and growth in vitro were investigated. Oscillatory changes of photoperiodic sensitivity were noticeable with regard to plant age. The plants induced at the phase of the 1st and the 3rd pair of leaves flowered to higher degree than those induced at the phase of 2nd pair. Plants induced at the phase of the 1st pair of leaves flowered to 17 % on 5 % glucose-containing medium and the addition of 5 mg dm-3 GA3 resulted in maximum flowering (43 %). Neither glucose nor GA3 were able to compensate for photoperiodic requirements for flowering. Hypocotyl growth was decreased and the 1st internode elongation and development of leaves were increased due to inductive photoperiodic conditions, as compared to non-inductive ones.  相似文献

Rehmannia glutinosa seedlings were pretreated with choline chloride (CC) in concentrations of 0, 0.7, 2.1 and 3.5 mM, and then subjected to drought and rewatering treatment to study the effects of CC on the generation of reactive oxygen species (O2, H2O2), lipid peroxidation, proline accumulation, water status and photosynthesis. The results showed that pretreatment with CC alleviated the inhibition of SOD and APX activity caused by drought stress, and therefore, the rate of O2 production and H2O2 concentration were reduced and lipid peroxidation decreased in pretreated plants. CC pretreatment also accelerated accumulation of proline, maintained higher Ψw and RWC, deferred leaf water loss during drought stress and retarded the drop in proline concentration after rewatering. Consequently, drought-induced decreases in Fm/F0, Fv/Fm, ΦPS2, qP, and A and increase in qNP were inhibited and the recovery of photosynthesis after rewatering was quicker in pretreated plants. Although differences in Fv/Fm, ΦPS2 and qP between treatments were not significant, there was a general trend that the effects of CC increased with the rise of its concentrations. The data suggested that 2.1 mM of CC be suitable for alleviating lipid peroxidation, promoting proline accumulation, retarding leaf water loss and improving photosynthesis of R. glutinosa seedlings under drought stress.  相似文献

The changes in isozyme profiles of catalase (CAT), peroxidase (POD), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), and glutathione reductase (GR) during severe deactivation of total CAT activity by aminotriazole (AT) treatment were investigated in the leaves ofArabidopsis thaliana (Columbia ecotype) in relation to H2O2-mediated oxidative stress. In spite of striking deactivation of total CAT activity by 0.1 mM AT, there were no significant differences in H2O2 levels or total leaf soluble protein contents including a Rubisco in both the control and AT-treated leaves. On the other hand, one specific protein band (molecular mass, 66 kD) was observed on the SDS-gel from leaf soluble proteins whose staining intensity was strikingly enhanced by AT treatment for 6 h. However, this band disappeared at 12 h. In the native-gel assays of CAT, POD, APX and GR isozymes, AT remarkably inhibited the expression of the CAT1 isozyme with no effects on CAT2 and CAT3, and generally had no effect on POD isozyme profiles. However, AT stimulated the intensity of activities of pre-existing APX1 and GR1 isozymes. In particular, it induced a new synthesis of one GR isozyme. Therefore, these results collectively suggest that a striking deactivation of total CAT activity by AT inA. thaliana leaves largely results from the suppression of CAT1 isozyme, and that APX1, GR1, and a newly synthesized GR isozyme could complement the role of CAT1 to metabolize H2O2 into non-toxic water.  相似文献

This contribution is a practical guide to the measurement of the different chlorophyll (Chl) fluorescence parameters and gives examples of their development under high-irradiance stress. From the Chl fluorescence induction kinetics upon irradiation of dark-adapted leaves, measured with the PAM fluorometer, various Chl fluorescence parameters, ratios, and quenching coefficients can be determined, which provide information on the functionality of the photosystem 2 (PS2) and the photosynthetic apparatus. These are the parameters Fv, Fm, F0, Fm′, Fv′, NF, and ΔF, the Chl fluorescence ratios Fv/Fm, Fv/F0, ΔF/Fm′, as well as the photochemical (qP) and non-photochemical quenching coefficients (qN, qCN, and NPQ). qN consists of three components (qN = qE + qT + qI), the contribution of which can be determined via Chl fluorescence relaxation kinetics measured in the dark period after the induction kinetics. The above Chl fluorescence parameters and ratios, many of which are measured in the dark-adapted state of leaves, primarily provide information on the functionality of PS2. In fully developed green and dark-green leaves these Chl fluorescence parameters, measured at the upper adaxial leaf side, only reflect the Chl fluorescence of a small portion of the leaf chloroplasts of the green palisade parenchyma cells at the upper outer leaf half. Thus, PAM fluorometer measurements have to be performed at both leaf sides to obtain information on all chloroplasts of the whole leaf. Combined high irradiance (HI) and heat stress, applied at the upper leaf side, strongly reduced the quantum yield of the photochemical energy conversion at the upper leaf half to nearly zero, whereas the Chl fluorescence signals measured at the lower leaf side were not or only little affected. During this HL-stress treatment, qN, qCN, and NPQ increased in both leaf sides, but to a much higher extent at the lower compared to the upper leaf side. qN was the best indicator for non-photochemical quenching even during a stronger HL-stress, whereas qCN and NPQ decreased with progressive stress even though non-photochemical quenching still continued. It is strongly recommended to determine, in addition to the classical fluorescence parameters, via the PAM fluorometer also the Chl fluorescence decrease ratio RFd (Fd/Fs), which, when measured at saturation irradiance is directly correlated to the net CO2 assimilation rate (P N) of leaves. This RFd-ratio can be determined from the Chl fluorescence induction kinetics measured with the PAM fluorometer using continuous saturating light (cSL) during 4–5 min. As the RFd-values are fast measurable indicators correlating with the photosynthetic activity of whole leaves, they should always be determined via the PAM fluorometer parallel to the other Chl fluorescence coefficients and ratios.  相似文献

Gas exchange, chlorophyll (Chl) fluorescence, and contents of photosynthetic pigments, soluble proteins (ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase, RuBPCO), and antioxidant enzymes were characterized in the fully expanded 6th leaves in rice seedlings grown on either complete (CK) or on nitrogen-deficient nutrient (N-deficiency) solutions during a 20-chase period. Compared with the control plants, the lower photosynthetic capacity at saturation irradiance (P max) was accompanied by an increase in intercellular CO2 concentration (Ci), indicating that in N-deficient plants the decline in P max was not due to stomatal limitation but due to the reduced carboxylation efficiency. The fluorescence parameters PS2, Fv/Fm, electron transport rate (ETR), and qP showed the same tendency as P max in N-deficient plants. Correspondingly, a higher qN paralleled the rise of the ratio of carotenoid (Car) to Chl contents. However, Fv/Fm was still diminished, suggesting that photoinhibition did occur in the photosystem 2 (PS2) reaction centres. In addition, the activities of antioxidant enzymes on a fresh mass basis were gradually lowered, leading to the aggravation of membrane lipid peroxidation with the proceeding N-deficiency. The accumulation of malonyldialdehyde resulted in the lessening of Chl and soluble protein content. Analyses of regression showed PS2 excitation pressure (1 - qP) was linearly correlated with the content of Chl and inversely with soluble protein (particularly RuBPCO) content. There was a lag phase in the increase of PS2 excitation pressure compared to the decrease of RuBPCO content. Therefore, the increased excitation pressure under N-deficiency is probably the result of saturation of the electron transport chain due to the limitation of the use of reductants by the Calvin cycle. Rice plants responded to N-deficiency and high irradiance by decreasing light-harvesting capacity and by increasing thermal dissipation of absorbed energy.  相似文献

To access contributions of inductive responses of the antioxidant enzymes in the resistance to salt stress, activities of the enzymes were determined in the rice (Oryza sativaL. cv. Dongjin) plant. In the leaves of the rice plant, salt stress preferentially enhanced the content of H2O2 as well as the activities of the superoxide dismutase (SOD), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), and peroxidase specific to guaiacol, whereas it induced the decrease of catalase activity. On the other hand, salt stress had little effect on the activity levels of glutathione reductase (GR). In order to analyze the changes of antioxidant enzyme isoforms against salt stress, plant extracts were subjected to native PAGE. Leaves of the rice plant had two isoforms of Mn-SOD and five isoforms of Cu/Zn-SOD. Fe-SOD isoform was not observed in the activity gels. Expression of Cu/Zn-1, -2, and Mn-SOD-2 isoforms was preferentially enhanced by salt stress. Seven APX isoforms were presented in the leaves of the rice plants. The intensities of APX-4 to -7 were enhanced by salt stress, whereas those of APX-1 to -3 were minimally in changed response to salt stress. There were seven GR isoforms in the leaves of rice plants. Levels of activity for most GR isoforms did not change in the stressed plants compared to the control plants. On the other hand, the levels of activity for most antioxidant enzymes changed little in the roots of stressed plants compared to the control plants. These results collectively suggest that SOD leads to the overproduction of hydrogen peroxide in the leaves of rice plants subjected to salt stress: The overproduction of hydrogen peroxide functions as the signal of salt stress, which induces the induction of specific APX isoforms but not specific GR isoforms under catalase deactivation.  相似文献

The objective of this work was to test whether Ca2+, a second messenger in stress response, is involved in ABA-induced antioxidant enzyme activities in Stylosanthes guianensis. Plants were sprayed with abscisic acid (ABA), calcium channel blocker, LaCl3, calcium chelator, ethylene glycol-bis(β-amino ethyl ether)-N,N,N′, N′-tetraacetid acid (EGTA), and ABA in combination with LaCl3 or EGTA. Their effects on superoxide dismutase (SOD) and ascorbate peroxidase (APX) activities and chilling resistance were compared. The results showed that ABA decreased electrolyte leakage and lipid peroxidation but increased maximum photochemical efficiency measured as variable to maximum fluorescence ratio (Fv/Fm) under chilling stress. Treatment with LaCl3 or EGTA alone and in combination with ABA increased electrolyte leakage and lipid peroxidation, decreased Fv/Fm, suggesting that the block in Ca2+ signalling decreased chilling resistance of S. guianensis and the ABA-enhanced chilling resistance. ABA-induced SOD and APX activities were suppressed by LaCl3 or EGTA. The results suggested that Ca2+ is involved in the ABA-enhanced chilling resistance and the ABA-induced SOD and APX activities in S. guianensis.  相似文献

The possibility to improve the recovery of sugar beet plants after water stress by application of synthetic cytokinins N6-benzyladenine (BA) or N6-(m-hydroxybenzyl)adenosine (HBA) was tested. Relative water content (RWC), net photosynthetic rate (PN), transpiration rate (E), stomatal conductance (gs), chlorophyll (Chl) a and Chl b contents, and photosystem 2 efficiency characterized by variable to maximal fluorescence ratio (Fv/Fm) were measured in control plants, in water-stressed plants, and after rehydration (4, 8, 24, and 48 h). Water stress markedly decreased parameters of gas exchange, but they started to recover soon after irrigation. Application of BA or HBA to the substrate or sprayed on leaves only slightly stimulated recovery of PN, E, and gs in rehydrated plants, especially during the first phases of recovery. Chl contents decreased only under severe water stress and Fv/Fm ratio was not significantly affected by water stress applied. Positive effects of BA or HBA application on Chl content and Fv/Fm ratio were mostly not observed.  相似文献

Photosynthetic parameters, growth, and pigment contents were determined during expansion of the fourth leaf of in vitro photoautotrophically cultured Nicotiana tabacum L. plants at three irradiances [photosynthetically active radiation (400–700 nm): low, LI 60 μmol m−2 s−1; middle, MI 180 μmol m−2 s−1; and high, HI 270 μmol m−2 s−1]. During leaf expansion, several symptoms usually accompanying leaf senescence appeared very early in HI and then in MI plants. Symptoms of senescence in developing leaves were: decreasing chlorophyll (Chl) a+b content and Chl a/b ratio, decreasing both maximum (FV/FM) and actual (ΦPS2) photochemical efficiency of photosystem 2, and increasing non-photochemical quenching. Nevertheless, net photosynthetic oxygen evolution rate (P N) did not decrease consistently with decrease in Chl content, but exhibited a typical ontogenetic course with gradual increase. P N reached its maximum before full leaf expansion and then tended to decline. Thus excess irradiance during in vitro cultivation did not cause early start of leaf senescence, but impaired photosynthetic performance and Chl content in leaves and changed their typical ontogenetic course.  相似文献

A flash-lamp chlorophyll (Chl) fluorescence imaging system (FL-FIS) is described that allows to screen and image the photosynthetic activity of several thousand leaf points (pixels) of intact leaves in a non-destructive way within a few seconds. This includes also the registration of several thousand leaf point images of the four natural fluorescence bands of plants in the blue (440 nm) and green (520 nm) regions as well as the red (near 690 nm) and far-red (near 740 nm) Chl fluorescence. The latest components of this Karlsruhe FL-FIS are presented as well as its advantage as compared to the classical single leaf point measurements where only the fluorescence information of one leaf point is sensed per each measurement. Moreover, using the conventional He-Ne-laser induced two-wavelengths Chl fluorometer LITWaF, we demonstrated that the photosynthetic activity of leaves can be determined measuring the Chl fluorescence decrease ratio, RFd (defined as Chl fluorescence decrease Fd from maximum to steady state fluorescence Fs:Fd/Fs), that is determined by the Chl fluorescence induction kinetics (Kautsky effect). The height of the values of the Chl fluorescence decrease ratio RFd is linearly correlated to the net photosynthetic CO2 fixation rate P N as is indicated here for sun and shade leaves of various trees that considerably differ in their P N. Imaging the RFd-ratio of intact leaves permitted the detection of considerable gradients in photosynthetic capacity across the leaf area as well as the spatial heterogeneity and patchiness of photosynthetic quantum conversion within the control leaf and the stressed plants. The higher photosynthetic capacity of sun versus shade leaves was screened by Chl fluorescence imaging. Profile analysis of fluoresence signals (along a line across the leaf area) and histograms (the signal frequency distribution of the fluorescence information of all measured leaf pixels) of Chl fluorescence yield and Chl fluorescence ratios allow, with a high statistical significance, the quantification of the differences in photosynthetic activity between various areas of the leaf as well as between control leaves and water stressed leaves. The progressive uptake and transfer of the herbicide diuron via the petiole into the leaf of an intact plant and the concomitant loss of photosynthetic quantum conversion was followed with high precision by imaging the increase of the red Chl fluorescence F690. Differences in the availability and absorption of soil nitrogen of crop plants can be documented via this flash-lamp fluorescence imaging technique by imaging the blue/red ratio image F440/F690, whereas differences in Chl content are detected by collecting images of the fluorescence ratio red/far-red, F690/F740.  相似文献

Flooding effects on membrane permeability, lipid peroxidation and activated oxygen metabolism in corn (Zea mays L.) leaves were investigated to determine if activated oxygens are involved in corn flooding-injury. Potted corn plants were flooded at the 4-leaf stage in a controlled environment. A 7-day flooding treatment resulted in a significant increase in chlorophyll breakdown, lipid peroxidation (malondialdehye content), membrane permeability, and the production of superoxide (O 2 - ) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in corn leaves. The effects were much greater in older leaves than in younger ones. Spraying leaves with 8-hydroxyquinoline (an O 2 - scavenger) and sodium benzoate (an .OH scavenger) reduced the oxidative damage and enhanced superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity. A short duration flooding treatment elevated the activities of SOD, catalase, ascorbate peroxidase (AP), and glutathione reductase (GR), while further flooding significantly reduced the enzyme activities but enhanced the concentrations of ascorbic acid and reduced form glutathione (GSH). It was noted that the decline in SOD activity was greater than that in H2O2 scavengers (AP and GR). The results suggested that O 2 - induced lipid peroxidation and membrane damage, and that excessive accumulation of O 2 - is due to the reduced activity of SOD under flooding stress.  相似文献

In cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) grown in controlled-environment growth chamber the effects of K deficiency during floral bud development on leaf photosynthesis, contents of chlorophyll (Chl) and nonstructural saccharides, leaf anatomy, chloroplast ultrastructure, and plant dry matter accumulation were studied. After cotton plants received 35-d K-free nutrient solution at the early square stage, net photosynthetic rate (P N) of the uppermost fully expanded main-stem leaves was only 23 % of the control plants receiving a full K supply. Decreased leaf P N of K-deficient cotton was mainly associated with dramatically low Chl content, poor chloroplast ultrastructure, and restricted saccharide translocation, rather than limited stomata conductance in K-deficient leaves. Accumulation of sucrose in leaves of K-deficient plants might be associated with reduced entry of sucrose into the transport pool or decreased phloem loading. K deficiency during squaring also dramatically reduced leaf area and dry matter accumulation, and affected assimilate partitioning among plant tissues.  相似文献

In a field experiment, two winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivars, Tainong 18 (a large-spike cultivar) and Jinan 17 (a multiple-spike cultivar), were treated with 78% (S1), 50% (S2), and 10% (S3) of full sunshine (S0, control) from anthesis to maturity to determine the responses of photosynthetic characteristics and antioxidative enzyme activities in a flag leaf. Compared with S0 treatment, the chlorophyll (Chl) content and maximal efficiency of photosystem II (PSII) photochemistry (Fv/Fm) of flag leaves were enhanced in treatments S1 and S2. From 0 to 7 d post flowering, the Chl content and Fv/Fm in S3 were also higher than those in S0, but significantly lower than those in controls, respectively. With the increase of shading intensity, the effective quantum yield of PSII (ΦPSII) was promoted; whereas, the ratio of Chl a/b declined. Compared with S0, treatments S2 and S3 significantly suppressed the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and peroxidase (POD), net photosynthetic rate (P N), and contents of total soluble sugar, nevertheless, S1 treatment showed positive effects on the above parameters. Under the same shading condition, Jinan 17 had larger Chl content and higher activities of PSII and antioxidative enzymes, but lower malondialdehyde (MDA) content than Tainong 18. The results indicated that multiple-spike cultivar was more advantageous for the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain, where shading problem occurs later during the growth period, than the large-spike cultivar, because of the lesser damage in a flag leaf and better photosynthetic function of the former one. Wheat plants under S1 shading condition had relatively high activities of antioxidative enzymes and a low degree of membrane lipid peroxidation, which was in favor of stress resistance, maintaining high P N duration, and accumulation of photosynthates in wheat plants.  相似文献

The partial shading effect on the photosynthetic apparatus of the sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) was examined by monitoring oxygen evolution, maximum quantum yield of PSII photochemistry in dark-adapted leaves (Fv/Fm), the chlorophyll (Chl) concentrations and the Rubisco contents, and leaf mass per area (LMA) at the leaf level and by determining the concentrations of cytochrome (Cyt) f and the reaction centres of photosystem (PS) I and PSII at the thylakoid level. In this experiment, partial shading was defined as the shading of 2nd leaves with shade cloths, and the whole treatment was defined as the covering of the whole individuals with shade cloths. In the leaf level responses, oxygen evolution, LMA, Chl concentrations and Rubisco contents decreased in all shade treatments administered for six days. Fv/Fm remained constant irrespective of the shade treatments. On the other hand, in the thylakoid-level responses, the concentrations of the thylakoid components per unit Chl and the stoichiometry of the two photosystems showed no statistical difference among the shade treatments. The data obtained from the present study indicate that the partial shading affected the leaf-level responses rather than the thylakoid-level responses. The light received at the lower leaves might serve as a factor in the regulation of the leaf properties of the upper leaves due to the whole plant photosynthesis, while this factor did not have an effect at the thylakoid level.  相似文献
