The purposes of this study were threefold: (1) to compare the power output related patterns of absolute and normalized MMG amplitude and MPF responses for proximal and distal accelerometer placements on the vastus lateralis (VL) muscle during incremental cycle ergometry; (2) to examine the influence of accelerometer placements on mean absolute MMG amplitude and MPF values; and (3) to determine the effects of normalization on mean MMG amplitude and MPF values from proximal and distal accelerometer placements. Fifteen adults (10 men and 5 women; mean ± SD age = 23.9 ± 3.1 years) performed incremental cycle ergometry tests to exhaustion. Two accelerometers were placed proximal and distal on the VL muscle. Paired t-tests indicated that absolute MMG amplitude values for the proximal accelerometer were greater (p < 0.05) than the distal accelerometer at all power outputs. The normalized MMG amplitude also had greater values for the proximal accelerometer at all power outputs, except 50 W. There were no differences, however, between proximal and distal accelerometers for absolute MMG MPF, except at 75 W, and normalization eliminated this difference. Twenty-seven percent of the subjects exhibited different power output related patterns of responses between accelerometer placements for MMG amplitude and 47% exhibited different patterns for MPF. These findings indicated that normalization did not eliminate the influence of accelerometer placement on MMG amplitude and highlighted the importance of standardizing accelerometer placements to compare MMG values during cycle ergometry.  相似文献

The mechanical activity of the human quadriceps muscle during maximal incremental cycle ergometry was investigated by mechanomyography (MMG). MMG and surface electromyography (EMG) recordings of vastus lateralis muscle activity were obtained from nine males. Cycle ergometry was performed at 60 rev/min and work load was incremented step wise by 20 W (3.2 Nm) every minute until volitional fatigue. The mean amplitudes of MMG (mMMG) and EMG (mEMG) during the contraction phase were calculated from the last six contractions in each load. The duration, load and work rate of exercise at exhaustion were 13.3 (1.6) min, 44.1 (5.5) Nm, 276.7 (34.7) W, respectively. A linear relationship between mMMG and load was evident in each subject (r = 0.868–0.995), while mEMG seemed to dissociate as the load became greater. In the grouped mean data, mMMG was linearly related to load whether aligned to the absolute (r = 0.995) or maximal (r = 0.995) load. Involvement of the noise component was further investigated by studying passive cycling by four subjects. Pedals were rotated passively for the first half of each stage (PAS) and the subject then pushed the pedals for the second half (ACT). In the lighter load region, the mMMG of ACT was as small as that of PAS. However, the change in the mMMG of PAS was very small compared with that of ACT. In conclusion, this study demonstrates a linear relationship between the mMMG of the quadriceps muscle and work load during maximal incremental cycle ergometry. The effect of movement noise was thought to be small and stable. Accepted: 22 April 1997  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of skinfold (SF) thicknesses at four locations on the vastus lateralis (VL) muscle and the placement of accelerometers relative to the innervation zone (IZ) on the mechanomyographic (MMG) amplitude and mean power frequency (MPF) responses during incremental cycle ergometry. Twenty adults (age ± SD = 23.8 ± 3.0 years) participated in the investigation. The MMG signals were detected during incremental cycle ergometry using four accelerometers placed on the right VL. Prior to the cycle ergometer test, SF thicknesses were measured. Simple linear regression analyses and one-way repeated measures analyses of variance (ANOVAs) were performed. The present study found that only 10% of the regression analyses and mean comparisons were significant (p < 0.05). Furthermore, the accelerometer placed at the most proximal site (Prox 2) had significantly greater MMG amplitude and MMG MPF than accelerometers placed at more distal sites (Prox 1, Over IZ, and Dist). There were no significant differences, however, in SF thickness between accelerometer placement sites. In addition, the IZ had no effect on MMG amplitude and little effect on MMG MPF values. The results of the present study indicated that the SF thickness values and IZ did not affect the MMG signal.  相似文献

This study compared the patterns of mechanomyographic (MMG) amplitude and mean power frequency vs. torque relationships in men and women during isometric muscle actions of the biceps brachii. Seven men (mean age 23.9 +/- 3.5 yrs) and 8 women (mean 21.0 +/- 1.3 yrs) performed submaximal to maximal isometric muscle actions of the dominant forearm flexors. Following determination of the isometric maximum voluntary contraction (MVC), they randomly performed submaximal step muscle actions in 10% increments from 10% to 90% MVC. Polynomial regression analyses indicated that the MMG amplitude vs. isometric torque relationship for the men was best fit with a cubic model (R(2) = 0.983),,where MMG amplitude increased slightly from 10% to 20% MVC, increased rapidly from 20% to 80% MVC, and plateaued from 80% to 100% MVC. For the women, MMG amplitude increased linearly (r(2) = 0.949) from 10% to 100% MVC. Linear models also provided the best fit for the MMG mean power frequency vs. isometric torque relationship in both the men (r(2) = 0.813) and women (r(2) = 0.578). The results demonstrated gender differences in the MMG amplitude vs. isometric torque relationship, but similar torque-related patterns for MMG mean power frequency. These findings suggested that the plateau in MMG amplitude at high levels of isometric torque production for the biceps brachii in the men, but not the women, may have been due to greater isometric torque, muscle stiffness, and/or intramuscular fluid pressure in the men, rather than to differences in motor unit activation strategies for modulating isometric torque production.  相似文献

IntroductionThe purpose of this study was to examine possible correlations between skinfold thicknesses and the a terms from the log-transformed electromyographic (EMGRMS) and mechanomyographic amplitude (MMGRMS)-force relationships, EMG M-Waves, and MMG gross lateral movements (GLM).MethodsForty healthy subjects performed a 6-s isometric ramp contraction from 5% to 85% of their maximal voluntary contraction with EMG and MMG sensors placed on the vastus lateralis (VL) and rectus femoris (RF). A single electrical stimulus was applied to the femoral nerve to record the EMG M-waves and MMG GLMs. Skinfold thickness was assessed at the site of each electrode. Pearson’s product correlation coefficients were calculated comparing skinfold thicknesses with the a terms from the log-transformed EMGRMS-and MMGRMS-force relationships, EMG M-waves, and MMG GLMs.ResultsThere were no significant cor1relations (p > 0.05) between the a terms and skinfold thicknesses for the RF and VL from the EMGRMS and MMGRMS-force relationships. However, there were significant correlations (p < 0.05) between skinfold thicknesses and the EMG M-waves and MMG GLMs for the RF (r = −0.521, −0.376) and VL (r = −0.479, −0.484).DiscussionRelationships were only present between skinfold thickness and the amplitudes of the EMG and MMG signals during the non-voluntary muscle actions.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of interelectrode distance (IED) on the absolute and normalized electromyographic (EMG) amplitude and mean power frequency (MPF) versus isokinetic and isometric torque relationships for the biceps brachii muscle. Ten adults [mean+/-SD age=22.0+/-3.4 years] performed submaximal to maximal, isokinetic and isometric muscle actions of the dominant forearm flexors. Following determination of isokinetic peak torque (PT) and the isometric maximum voluntary contraction (MVC), the subjects performed randomly ordered, submaximal step muscle actions in 10% increments from 10% to 90% PT and MVC. Surface EMG signals were recorded simultaneously from bipolar electrode arrangements placed over the biceps brachii muscle with IEDs of 20, 40, and 60mm. Absolute and normalized EMG amplitude (muVrms and %max) increased linearly with torque during the isokinetic and isometric muscle actions (r(2) range=0.988-0.998), but there were no significant changes for absolute or normalized EMG MPF (Hz or %max) from 10% to 100% PT and MVC. In some cases, there were significant (p<0.05) differences among the three IED arrangements for absolute EMG amplitude and MPF values, but not for the normalized values. These findings suggested that for the biceps brachii muscle, IEDs between 20 and 60mm resulted in similar patterns for the EMG amplitude or MPF versus dynamic and isometric torque relationships. Furthermore, unlike the absolute EMG amplitude and MPF values, the normalized EMG data were not influenced by changes in IED between 20 and 60mm. Thus, normalized EMG data can be compared among previous studies that have utilized different IED arrangements.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to describe and examine the variations in recruitment patterns of motor units (MUs) in biceps brachii (BB) through a range of joint motion during dynamic eccentric and concentric contractions. Twelve healthy participants (6 females, 6 males, age = 30 ± 8.5 years) performed concentric and eccentric contractions with constant external loading at different levels. Surface electromyography (EMG) and mechanomyography (MMG) were recorded from BB. The EMGs and MMGs were decomposed into their intensities in time–frequency space using a wavelet technique. The EMG and MMG spectra were then compared using principal component analysis. Variations in total intensity, first principal component (PCI), and the angle θ formed by first component (PCI) and second component (PCII) loading scores were explained in terms of MU recruitment patterns and elbow angles. Elbow angle had a significant effect on dynamic concentric and eccentric contractions. The EMG total intensity was greater for concentric than for eccentric contractions in the present study. MMG total intensity, however, was lower during concentric than during eccentric contractions. In addition, there was no significant difference in θ between concentric and eccentric contractions for both EMG and MMG. Selective recruitment of fast MUs from BB muscle during eccentric muscle contractions was not found in the present study.  相似文献

Blood lactate in trained cyclists during cycle ergometry at critical power   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The purposes of this investigation were to determine the validity of critical power (CP) as a measure of the work rate that can be maintained for a very long time without fatigue and to determine whether this corresponded with the maximal lactate steady-state (lass, max). Eight highly trained endurance cyclists (maximal oxygen uptake 74.1 ml.kg-1.min-1, SD 5.3) completed four cycle ergometer tests to exhaustion at pre-determined work rates (360, 425, 480 and 520 W). From these four co-ordinates of work and time to fatigue the regression of work limit on time limit was calculated for each individual (CP). The cyclists were then asked to exercise at their CP for 30 min. If CP could not be maintained, the resistance was reduced minimally to allow the subject to complete the test and maintain a blood lactate plateau. Capillary blood was sampled at 0,5,10,20 and 30 min into exercise for the analysis of lactate. Six of the eight cyclists were unable to maintain CP for 30 min without fatigue. In these subjects, the mean power attained was 6.4% below that estimated by CP. Mean blood lactates (n = 8) reached a steady-state (8.9 mmol.l-1 SD 1.6) during the last 20 min of exercise indicating that CP slightly overestimated lass, max, Individual blood lactates during the last 20 min of exercise were more closely related to the gamma-intercept of the CP curve (r = 0.78, P less than 0.05) than either CP (0.34, NS) or mean power output (r = 0.42, NS).  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine if an active warm-up affects peak torque (PT), rate of torque development (RTD), and the electromyographic (EMG) and mechanomyographic (MMG) signals. Twenty-one men (mean age ± SD: 24.0 ± 2.7 years) visited the exercise physiology laboratory on 2 occasions. During the first visit, they either performed an active warm-up (10 minutes of stationary cycling at 70% of predicted maximum heart rate) or sat quietly (no warm-up). Participants were then tested for isometric and isokinetic (60°, 180°, and 300°·s) PT, and RTD (measured as S-gradient) on an isokinetic dynamometer. Electromyographic and MMG sensors were placed over the vastus lateralis muscle to monitor the electrical and mechanical aspects of muscle contractions, respectively. The testing protocol used for the first visit was repeated for the second visit, but the preexercise treatment (warm-up, no warm-up) not given during the first visit was administered. The results indicated that an active warm-up did not affect PT, RTD, or measures of muscle activation as reflected by EMG amplitude, EMG frequency, or MMG frequency (p > 0.05). However, MMG amplitude at 180°·s was significantly greater in the warm-up condition compared with the no warm-up condition. The isolated increase in MMG amplitude suggested that warm-up may have affected the mechanical properties of muscle by reducing muscular stiffness or decreasing intramuscular fluid pressure, but that it was not sufficient to influence performance.  相似文献

The primary purpose of the present study was to compare the fast Fourier transform (FFT) with the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) for determining the mechanomyographic (MMG) and electromyographic (EMG) center frequency [mean power frequency (mpf), median frequency (mdf), or wavelet center frequency (cf)] patterns during fatiguing isokinetic muscle actions of the biceps brachii. Seven men (mean+/-SD age=23+/-3 years) volunteered to perform 50 consecutive maximal, concentric isokinetic muscle actions of the dominant forearm flexors at a velocity of 180 degrees s(-1). Non-parametric "run" tests indicated significant (p<0.05) trends in the MMG and EMG signals for the 5th, 25th, and 45th muscle actions for all subjects, thereby confirming non-stationarity of the MMG and EMG signals. There were significant (p<0.05) correlations among the average normalized mpf, mdf, and cf values for contractions 1-50 for both MMG (r=0.671-0.935) and EMG (r=0.956-0.987). Polynomial regression analyses demonstrated quadratic decreases in normalized MMG mpf (R2=0.439), MMG mdf (R2=0.258), MMG cf (R2=0.359), EMG mpf (R2=0.952), EMG mdf (R2=0.914) and EMG cf (R2=0.888) across repetitions. The primary finding of this study was the similarity in the mpf, mdf, and cf patterns for both MMG and EMG, which suggested that, despite the concerns over non-stationarity, Fourier based methods are acceptable for determining the patterns for normalized MMG and EMG center frequency during fatiguing dynamic muscle actions at moderate velocities.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to compare a piezoelectric contact sensor with an accelerometer for measuring the mechanomyographic (MMG) signal from the biceps brachii during submaximal to maximal isokinetic and isometric forearm flexion muscle actions. Following determination of isokinetic peak torque (PT) and the isometric maximum voluntary contraction (MVC), 10 adults (mean+/-SD age=22.8+/-2.7yrs) performed randomly ordered, submaximal step muscle actions of the dominant forearm flexors in 20% increments from 20% to 80% PT and MVC. Surface MMG signals were recorded simultaneously from a contact sensor and an accelerometer placed over the belly of the biceps brachii muscle. During the isokinetic and isometric muscle actions, the contact sensor and accelerometer resulted in linear increases in normalized MMG amplitude with torque (r(2) range=0.84-0.97) but the linear slope of the normalized MMG amplitude versus isokinetic torque relationship for the accelerometer was less (p<0.10) than that of the contact sensor. There was no significant (p>0.05) relationship for normalized MMG mean power frequency (MPF, %max) versus isokinetic and isometric torque for the contact sensor, but the accelerometer demonstrated a quadratic (R(2)=0.94) or linear (r(2)=0.83) relationship for the isokinetic and isometric muscle actions, respectively. There were also a number of significant (p<0.05) mean differences between the contact sensor and accelerometer for normalized MMG amplitude or MPF values. These findings indicated that in some cases involving dynamic and isometric muscle actions, the contact sensor and accelerometer resulted in different torque-related responses that may affect the interpretation of the motor control strategies involved.  相似文献

The purpose of this investigation is to introduce a wavelet analysis designed for analyzing short events reflecting bursts of muscle activity in non-stationary mechanomyographic (MMG) signals. A filter bank of eleven nonlinearly scaled wavelets that maintain the optimal combination of time and frequency resolution across the frequency range of MMG signals (5–100 Hz) was used for the analysis. A comparison with the short-time Fourier transform, Wigner-Ville transform and continuous wavelet transform using a test signal with known time–frequency characteristics showed that the MMG wavelet analysis resolved the intensity, timing, and frequencies of events in a more distinct way without overemphasizing high or low frequencies or generating interference terms. The analysis was used to process MMG signals from the vastus lateralis, rectus femoris, and vastus medialis muscles obtained during maximal concentric and eccentric isokinetic movements. Muscular events were observed that were precisely located in time and frequency in a muscle-specific way, thereby showing periods of synergistic contractions of the quadriceps muscles. The MMG wavelet spectra showed different spectral bands for concentric and eccentric isokinetic movements. In addition, the high and low frequency bands seemed to be activated independently during the isokinetic movement. What generates these bands is not yet known, however, the MMG wavelet analysis was able to resolve them, and is therefore applicable to non-stationary MMG signals.  相似文献

The von Tscharner (2000) “intensity analysis” describes the power of a non-stationary signal as a function of both frequency and time. The present study applied a version of this intensity analysis that utilizes Morlet wavelets as a means of gaining insight into the application of this technique as alternative to power spectral analysis for the evaluation of postural control strategy during the single-legged stance and to examine the effects of fatigue. Ten subjects (gender balanced, age: 25 ± 3 years; height: 169.4 ± 11.7 cm; weight: 79.0 ± 16.9 kg) participated in two trials consisting of five 15-s dominant-leg stances. Three-uniaxial accelerometers were fixed to the surface of the dominant leg corresponding to VM, VL, SOL, and MMG was recorded at a sampling rate of 1000 Hz. Signals were later analyzed using a variation of the von Tscharner intensity analysis consisting of a filter bank of 11 Morlet wavelets (range: 2.1–131.1 Hz). Two Wingate anaerobic tests (WAnT) separated by a 2-min rest were performed to introduce fatigue. Repeated measures ANOVAs showed significant effects for time, gender, trial, and wavelet (p < 0.001) and significant interactions for muscle by wavelet, gender by trial, trial by wavelet, and gender by trial by wavelet (p < 0.001). Peak total MMG intensity (mean ± SD) was higher in males than females and higher following fatiguing exercise preWAnT (squared m s−2): 42.6 ± 4.5 vs. 19.2 ± 2.3; postWAnT (squared m s−2): 90.4 ± 9.1 vs. 28.4 ± 2.8. Peak total MMG intensity was compressed to the lower frequencies surrounding ∼12 Hz, corresponding to what might be considered physiologic tremor, and a lower peak at ∼42 Hz was most prominent in SOL. The intensity analysis is a useful tool in exploring postural control and in studying the effects of fatigue on the mechanical properties of skeletal muscle.  相似文献

Relationship between body and leg VO2 during maximal cycle ergometry.   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
It is not known whether the asymptotic behavior of whole body O2 consumption (VO2) at maximal work rates (WR) is explained by similar behavior of VO2 in the exercising legs. To resolve this question, simultaneous measurements of body and leg VO2 were made at submaximal and maximal levels of effort breathing normoxic and hypoxic gases in seven trained male cyclists (maximal VO2, 64.7 +/- 2.7 ml O2.min-1.kg-1), each of whom demonstrated a reproducible VO2-WR asymptote during fatiguing incremental cycle ergometry. Left leg blood flow was measured by constant-infusion thermodilution, and total leg VO2 was calculated as the product of twice leg flow and radial arterial-femoral venous O2 concentration difference. The VO2-WR relationships determined at submaximal WR's were extrapolated to maximal WR as a basis for assessing the body and leg VO2 responses. The differences between measured and extrapolated maximal VO2 were 235 +/- 45 (body) and 203 +/- 70 (leg) ml O2/min (not significantly different). Plateauing of leg VO2 was associated with, and explained by, plateauing of both leg blood flow and O2 extraction and hence of leg VO2. We conclude that the asymptotic behavior of whole body VO2 at maximal WRs is a direct reflection of the VO2 profile at the exercising legs.  相似文献

Physiological and biomechanical effects of aerobic exercise varying in intensity were studied on the basis of the subjects’ perceived exertion. It was demonstrated that exercise regulated with the use of a 50–100 rating scale was characterized by reliably stable heart-rate and respiratory reactions and biomechanical responses. The relative working heart rate (HR) expressed in percent of the individual HRmax was found to be closely correlated with the values on the 50–100 scale within a wide range during exercise with constant or increasing perceived exertion.  相似文献

Natural variability of myoelectric activity during walking was recently analyzed considering hundreds of strides. This allowed assessing a parameter seldom considered in classic surface EMG (sEMG) studies: the occurrence frequency, defined as the frequency each muscle activation occurs with, quantified by the number of strides when a muscle is recruited with that specific activation modality. Aim of present study was to propose the occurrence frequency as a new parameter for assessing sEMG-signal variability during walking. Aim was addressed by processing sEMG signals acquired from Gastrocnemius Lateralis, Tibialis Anterior, Rectus Femoris and Biceps femoris in 40 healthy subjects in order to: (1) show that occurrence frequency is not correlated with ON/OFF instants (Rmean = 0.11 ± 0.07; P > 0.05) and total time of activation (Rmean = 0.15 ± 0.08; P > 0.05); (2) confirm the above results by two handy examples of application (analysis of gender and age) which highlighted that significant (P < 0.05) gender-related and age-related differences within population were detected in occurrence frequency, but not in temporal sEMG parameters. In conclusion, present study demonstrated that occurrence frequency is able to provide further information, besides those supplied by classical temporal sEMG parameters and thus it is suitable to complement them in the evaluation of variability of myoelectric activity during walking.  相似文献

Sprint tests are frequently used to evaluate between-subject differences and can provide a valuable insight into performance capacity. The present study determined the reproducibility of peak and mean power output during upper-body sprints. After familiarization 25 men (mean [+/- SD] age 29 [6] years, body mass 82.8 [12.7] kg and height 1.76 [0.05] m) completed 2 20-second upper-body sprint tests using an adapted cycle ergometer. Mean (+/- SD) values of all power (uncorrected and corrected) measurements achieved during the 2 tests were checked for systematic bias using separate paired t-tests. Test-retest reproducibility was examined using coefficients of variation and single-measure intraclass correlation coefficients, as well as an assessment of the typical (random) error and the 95% limits of agreement. The value of corrected peak power (628 [167] W) was higher (p < 0.05) compared with the uncorrected value (509 [109] W). Values of corrected (465 [95] W) and uncorrected (444 [87] W) mean power were similar (p > 0.05). The mean bias value for all power parameters equated to less than +/-1% of the absolute values of power measured. Intraclass correlation coefficients for all data sets ranged from 0.97 to 0.98. Coefficients of variation for uncorrected and corrected values of peak power were 2.8 and 4.5%, while corresponding values for mean power were 2.9 and 3.2%, respectively. The reproducibility of all power indices was below 5%. The results of this study indicate that both uncorrected and corrected measurements of peak power output and mean power output can be used to assess performance during sprint arm ergometry.  相似文献
