The faunal composition of Diptera (Insecta) inhabiting the galleries of Polygraphus proximus over the territory of Siberia and the Russian Far East was studied. As a result, 14 species of Diptera were discovered representing 8 families. Within its secondary range, the invasive beetle P. proximus Blandford, 1894 is affected not only by the well-known introduced species Medetera penicillata Negrobov, 1970 but also by numerous other widespread predatory flies, such as Medetera excellens Frey, 1909, M. pinicola Kowarz, 1877, Xylophagus cinctus (De Geer, 1776), and Toxoneura ephippium (Zettersted, 1860). Four predatory fly species, M. penicillata, M. signaticornis Loew, 1857, Lonchaea bukowskii Czerny, 1934, and Xylophagus sachalinensis (Pleske, 1925), affect P. proximus within its native range in the Russian Far East. Data on the predation of each species of Diptera on several species of bark beetles testify to their polyphagy. Saprophagous larvae of Dicranomyia modesta (Meigen, 1818), Chalcosyrphus piger (Fabricius, 1794), Xylosciara lignicola (Winnertz, 1867), and Pseudolycoriella unispina (Mohrig et Krivosheina, 1983) were discovered in bark beetle galleries for the first time.  相似文献

The beetle complex associated with Daedaleopsis confragosa (Bolton: Fr.) Schrot. (Basidiomycetes, Aphyllophorales) in the Urals and Transurals is characterized. A total of 54 species of 16 families were found in this complex, the commonest species including Cis comptus Gyll., Sulcacis affinis (Gyll.) (Ciidae), Tritoma subbasalis (Rtt.), Dacne bipustulata Thunb. (Erotylidae), Mycetophagus multipunctatus F., M. piceus (F.) (Mycetophagidae), and Thymalus oblongus Rtt. (Trogossitidae). The main trends of the ecological and trophic specialization of the mycetophilic beetles are discussed; some features of formation of their complexes at different stages of the tree-fungi fruit bodies formation were established.  相似文献

Two new species of Metarhizium, M. bibionidarum and M. purpureogenum are described from Japan. Metarhizium bibionidarum is the phylogenetic sister species of M. pemphigi and a member of the M. flavoviride species complex. It is distinguished morphologically from M. pemphigi by its larger conidia. The species is based on a collection of an infected March fly larva (Diptera: Bibionidae) but is also known to occur on fruit beetle (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) encountered in France. Metarhizium purpureogenum was isolated from soil by plating and insect baiting methods and represents a unique phylogenetic lineage placed outside the M. anisopliae and M. flavoviride species complexes. Three isolates of M. purpureogenum excreted a distinctive red-purple pigment into agar medium when co-cultured with M. robertsii or Aspergillus oryzae.  相似文献

Development of mycoses and progress of humoral and cellular immune responses were compared in larvae of the Colorado potato beetle Leptinotarsa decemlineata infected with entomopathogenic fungi Metarhizium robertsii, M. brunneum and M. pemphigi. The larvae were found to be highly susceptible to the strains of M. robertsii and M. brunneum but weakly responsive to M. pemphigi. The extent of susceptibility to the pathogens was not related to the stimulating effect of epicuticular extracts on fungal growth. Metarhizium pemphigi, which is non-specific to the Colorado potato beetle, did not cause any significant changes in the immune response and did not colonize the hemocoel. When infected with M. robertsii and M. brunneum, the larvae exhibited an increase in hemocyte count during the early stage of mycosis (day 2) followed by a drastic decrease on day 3. The immunocompetent cells, plasmatocytes and granulocytes, exhibited the greatest decrease. Elevated phenoloxidase activity was recorded in the hemolymph and cuticle on days 2 and 3 post-infection. These changes in the immune responses correlated with strain-specific virulence. Thus, the immune response in Colorado potato beetle larvae is an important factor, which determines differences in the development of mycoses caused by different Metarhizium species.  相似文献

The relationship between the pine bark beetle Ips sexdentatus and its phoretic mites in a Pinus pinaster forest in northwest Spain was studied during 2014. Four species of mites were collected, three of them from the body of the beetle—Histiostoma ovalis, Dendrolaelaps quadrisetus and Trichouropoda polytricha—the fourth, Cercoleipus coelonotus, was collected from the sediments. The main aims of this study were to explore (1) mite diversity and related parameters, (2) the location on the body of the (male and female) beetle, as well as mite assemblages, and (3) the seasonal dynamic association between mite species and the beetle. Results indicated that the diversity oscillated around 0.71 through the study period and the most dominant, frequent and abundant mite was H. ovalis. Histiostoma ovalis was found attached to almost all parts of the body (mainly on the elytral declivity and ventral thorax), whereas D. quadrisetus was exclusively found under the elytra, and T. polytricha displayed affinity towards the elytral declivity as well as the ventral thorax. None of the mite species displayed any preference for the sex of the beetle and the most frequent mite assemblage was H. ovalis, T. polytricha and D. quadrisetus all together. Maximum abundance of each phoretic mite species was related with each of the flight peaks of the beetle that would indicate that these mite species use phoresy as a primary method of transport for colonizing new food sources.  相似文献

The hybrid origin of Miscanthus purpurascens has previously been proposed, primarily because of its intermediate morphology. In this study, phylogenies based on the DNA sequences from the internal transcribed spacer region of nuclear ribosomal DNA (nrDNA ITS), on the DNA sequences of the trnL intron and trnL-F intergenic spacer of chloroplast DNA, and on amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) fingerprinting confirm that M. purpurascens originated through homoploid hybridization between M. sinensis and M. sacchariflorus. Two different types of ITS sequences were identified from almost all plants of M. purpurascens. One type was found to be closely related to M. sinensis and the other to M. sacchariflorus. Miscanthus purpurascens was found to possess many M. sinensis- and M. sacchariflorus-specific AFLP bands but no band specific to itself. Clustering with the Unweighted Pair Group Method with Arithmetic Mean and principal coordinate analysis based on the AFLP data also demonstrated that M. purpurascens is an approximate intermediate of the two species. In addition, M. purpurascens has the plastid genome of M. sinensis or M. sacchariflorus, suggesting that either species could be its maternal parent. All specimens of M. purpurascens and its coexisting parental species are identified as diploids (2n = 2x = 38). Possible mechanisms of natural hybridization, hybrid status, chloroplast DNA recombination, and evolutionary implications of this hybridization are also discussed.  相似文献

Ground beetles were captured in a mixed southern taiga forest near the city of Vologda, Russia, from March to September 2014 using different collection techniques. Of the 250 specimens of ground beetles belonging to 22 species, 109 beetles representing 11 species yielded 326 specimens of mites of the cohorts Gamasina (4 species), Astigmatina (5), and Heterostigmatina (1). Two mite species, Antennoseius pseudospinosus Eidelberg, 1990, a common species in the steppes of southeastern Europe, and Halodarcia incideta Karg, 1969, a polyzonal European hydrophile, are recorded in the taiga zone for the first time. Dorsipes dorsipes Regenfuss, 1968, a specialized parasite of beetles of the genus Carabus Linnaeus, 1758, is new to the fauna of Eastern Europe. An adult mite of the genus Stylochirus G. Canestrini et R. Canestrini, 1882 was found for the first time in a natural hibernating chamber in close contact with an overwintering ground beetle, in particular, a male of S. fimetarius (Müller, 1859) on Carabus granulatus Linnaeus, 1785. The most common mite to occur on ground beetles was Antennoseius bullitus Karg, 1969, which was found on 7 carabid species with the mean occurrence of 41% and comprised 68% of the total mite sample. Joint phoresy of 2–3 mite species was recorded on 12 specimens of ground beetles; in 5 cases the co-occurring mites were Antennoseius bullitus and Stylochirus fimetarius. Three dominant mite species (85% of the total mite sample) were mainly collected off three dominant carabid species (70% of the beetle sample), but individual mite species preferred different hosts.  相似文献

Long-term data on the composition and absolute and relative abundance of eight bat species hibernating in artificial caves of Samara Luka are considered. About 13 000 hibernating individuals are annually accounted there. The relative abundance of the species decreased in the following order: Myotis brandtii (35%), Plecotus auritus (20%), M. daubentonii (13%), M. mystacinus (13%), Eptesicus nilssonii (8%), M. dasycneme (8%), and M. nattereri (2%). Singular E. serotinus were recorded not every year. The number of hibernating animals in pits was proportional to their size and the number of shelters. Bats used previously chosen shelters and were never found in adjacent caves. The maximum species diversity (H’) and evenness (E) were observed in bat communities in medium-sized caves. One of the main factors of increasing abundance of hibernating bats in abandoned pits is their gradual colonization by the animals.  相似文献

Latency-dependent responses to artificial electric stimuli in 11 species of the Nilotic mormyrids were studied. In total, more than 350 poststimulus time histograms from 132 individuals were analyzed. All species studied exhibited the latency-dependent responses. Both main types of responses – phase locking and phase avoidance behavior or the preferred latency response (PLR) and preferred latency avoidance (PLA) – were found in eight species (Brevimyrus niger, Hippopotamyrus pictus, Marcusenius cyprinoides, Mormyrus kannume, M. hasselquistii, Petrocephalus bane, P. bovei and ‘Pollimyrus’ petherici), while only PLR were recorded from the remaining three species (Hyperopisus bebe, Mormyrops anguilloides and Mormyrus caschive). In eight species both types of behavior were found in fish of the same sex. In four species both types of behavior were found both in females and males. Finally, in four species both types of behavior were revealed in the same individual (in total, there were eight such individuals). In some individuals of different species the atypical responses with substantially increased latencies (compared to the typical PLR and PLA) were observed. The possible role of the phase locking and phase avoidance behavior in the mormyrid electrolocation and communication is discussed.  相似文献

A detailed characteristic of the beetle fauna associated with Fomitopsis pinicola (Sw.: Fr.) Karst. (Basidiomycetes, Aphyllophorales) in the Urals and Transurals is given. Thirty species from 14 families have been revealed, the commonest species including Eridaulus jacquemarti Mel., Ennearthron laricinum (Mel.) (Ciidae), Dorcatoma dresdensis Hbst., D. lomnickii Rtt., D. punctulata Muls. (Anobiidae), Diaperis boleti (L.) (Tenebrionidae), Scaphisoma agaricinum (L.), S. inopinatum Löbl, S. subalpinum Rtt. (Scaphidiidae), Ostoma ferruginea (L.), and Peltis grossa (L.) (Peltidae). The main trends in the ecological and trophic specialization of mycetophilous beetles are discussed, and some regularities of formation of mycetophilous complexes at different stages of the trees fungi fruit body development are revealed.  相似文献

Mitochondrial DNA control region of Mus terricolor, three aboriginal species M. spretus, M. macedonicus, M. spicilegus; the Asian lineage M. caroli, M. cervicolor, M. cookii; and the two house mice, M. musculus domesticus and M. m. castaneus were analysed to estimate the substitution rate, phylogenetic relationship and the probable time of divergence. Results showed that M. spretus, M. caroli and M. terricolor are highly diverged from each other (caroli/terricolor = 0.146, caroli/spretus = 0.147 and terricolor/spretus = 0.122), whereas M. spretus showed less divergence with two house mice species (0.070 and 0.071). Sequence divergence between M. terricolor and the Palearctic group were found to be ranging from 0.121 to 0.134. Phylogenetic analysis by minimum evolution, neighbour-joining, unweighed pair group method with arithmetic mean and maximum parsimony showed almost similar topology. Two major clusters were found, one included the Asian lineage, M. caroli, M. cookii and M. cervicolor and the other included the house mice M. m. domesticus, M. m. castaneus and the aboriginal mice M. macedonicus and M. spicilegus along with M. spretus, forming the Palearctic clade. M. terricolor was positioned between the Palearctic and Asian clades. Results showed that Palearctic-terricolor and the Asian lineages diverged 5.47 million years ago (Mya), while M. terricolor had split around 4.63 Mya from their ancestor. M. cervicolor, M. cookii and M. caroli diverged between 4.70 and 3.36 Mya, which indicates that M. terricolor and the Asian lineages evolved simultaneously. M. spretus is expected to have diverged nearly 2.9 Mya from their most recent common ancestor.  相似文献

Classical biological control is a valuable tool against invasive pests, but concerns about non-target effects requires risk assessment studies. Potential non-target effects of Anaphes inexpectatus Huber and Prinsloo (Hymenoptera: Mymaridae) were assessed for a classical biological control programme against the Eucalyptus snout beetle, Gonipterus platensis (Marelli) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae). No-choice tests were conducted with 17 non-target species to assess host specificity, including 11 curculionids. In behavioural observations, A. inexpectatus showed no interest in any of the non-target species, but two weevil species were parasitised within five days of exposure, although at significantly lower rates than G. platensis. In choice tests, only one non-target, Hypera postica (Gyllenhal) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), was parasitised, at a rate of 0.6%, while 50.0% of G. platensis eggs were parasitised. Based on the host specificity test results and the potential host fauna found in the target area, the likelihood of non-target effects resulting from the release of A. inexpectatus is considered to be negligible.  相似文献

The larch bark beetle (Ips subelongatus), which occurs in larch plantations over a vast area of eastern Asia, infects both dying and fallen trees. When its population reaches a high density, the beetle may also infect healthy trees, resulting in tree decline and, eventually, death. Leptographium spp., in both their sexual and asexual states, are mainly associated with conifer-infesting bark beetles; some species are important tree pathogens. The aims of this study were to identify the Leptographium spp. associated with I. subelongatus infestations of Larix spp. in northern China and to examine their pathogenicity towards the tree. Morphological studies and phylogenetic approaches based on multilocus DNA sequence data (ITS2- partial r28S, partial β-tubulin, and EF-1α gene regions) showed that three Leptographium species occur in association with I. subelongatus in the areas investigated: Leptographium taigense, which is recorded in China for the first time, and two new species, namely L. innermongolicum sp. nov. and L. zhangii sp. nov. Leptographium innermongolicum is closely related to L. taigense, whereas L. zhangii belongs to the Grosmannia piceaperda species complex. The pathogenicity of these Leptographium species towards mature Larix spp. was tested by stem inoculation in forests. All inoculations only resulted in small lesions on the inner bark; therefore, the three Leptographium species were not considered to be pathogenic.  相似文献

Changes in the abundance and distribution of selected species of beetles in European Russia and in the Caucasus are reported. Most of these species have been recorded from the Northwestern Caucasus in the last 10–15 years. The abundance and distribution during the last two years have changed most sharply in the introduced species, the Harlequin lady beetle Harmonia axyridis and two East Asian bruchids, Megabruchidius dorsalis and M. tonkineus. In 2016, the latter has been found in Georgia for the first time, and Harmonia axyridis was found in St. Petersburg. Abundance of the weevil Alcidodes karelinii with the range situated mostly east of the Caucasus and Volga River remains in Northwestern Caucasus at about the previous level. The flea-weevil species, a leaf miner on Ulmus pumila, misidentified previously as Orchestes mutabilis, is described in this paper as Orchestes steppensis sp. n. based on the material from Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and Northern China; no its further distribution westward in 2015–2016 has been found. This species, rapidly widening its range in North America in the recent decade, is misidentified there as Orchestes alni. A key for differentiation of Orchestes alni, O. mutabilis and O. steppensis sp. n. is provided with photographs of adults of all three species. Magdalis armigera has increased abundance in Northwestern Caucasus in 2016 and was for the first time found in Northwestern Russia (Pskov Province) in 2015. Regular faunistic surveys during several decades provide a possibility of recording considerable changes in the abundance of some common species of Coleoptera, often associated with changes in their distribution.  相似文献

Five species of mouse or forest shrews (Myosorex) are endemic to South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland, four of which (Myosorex varius, Myosorex cafer, Myosorex longicaudatus and Myosorex cf. tenuis) are associated with montane or temperate grassland, fynbos and/or forest habitats while a fifth (Myosorex sclateri) is associated with lowland subtropical forests. Due to their small size, specialised habitat, low dispersal capacity, high metabolism and sensitivity to temperature extremes, we predicted that, particularly for montane species, future climate change should have a negative impact on area of occupancy (AOO) and ultimately extinction risks. Species distribution models (SDMs) indicated general declines in AOO of three species by 2050 under the A1b and A2 climate change scenarios (M. cafer, M. varius, M. longicaudatus) while two species (M. sclateri and M. cf. tenuis) remained unchanged (assuming no dispersal) or increased their AOO (assuming dispersal). While temperate species such as M. varius appear to be limited by temperature maxima (preferring cooler temperatures), the subtropical species M. sclateri appears to be limited by temperature minima (preferring warmer temperatures). Evidence for declines in AOO informed the uplisting (to a higher category of threat) of the Red List status of four Myosorex species to either vulnerable or endangered as part of a separate regional International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List assessment.  相似文献

Morphological traits are useful to investigate insect sex-related differences in body size and to reveal differences in resource use. It has been suggested that as the resource increases, so does the body size of organisms interacting with the resource, highlighting the crucial role of resource quality and quantity in determining the morphological traits of organisms interacting with the resource. Here, we describe morphological traits of two species of Bruchinae, Merobruchus terani (Kingsolver 1980) and Stator maculatopygus (Pic 1930), consuming seeds of Senegalia tenuifolia (Fabaceae: Mimosoideae). We evaluated the influence of monthly sample and sampling sites on tibia and femur length and biomass. In addition, we tested two predictions in which body size related to resource amount and body size related to longevity. Males of M. terani were heavier than females, whereas the two sexes of S. maculatopygus did not differ in biomass. Both species had larger body sizes in the late ripe-fruit stage. With respect to sampling sites, biomass of M. terani did not differ, whereas S. maculatopygus did differ in biomass. Merobruchus terani showed a positive relationship with seed traits, whereas S. maculatopygus showed no relationship. At the same time, fruit traits showed a negative effect on morphological traits for both beetle species. The longevity experiment, performed using only M. terani, showed an equal longevity and seed consumption rate for both sexes. Our study indicates that different species, interacting in the same system and performing similar functional behaviors, respond differently to the same resource.  相似文献

The two-spotted spider mite Tetranychus urticae is an important pest of strawberry crops in Brazil and many other countries. Focus for biocontrol studies involving entomopathogenic fungi has been on three species from the genus Metarhizium: M. anisopliae sensu stricto (s.s.), M. brunneum and M. robertsii. Also, the species Beauveria bassiana has been studied for spider mite control and one isolate (ESALQPL63) is commercially available in Brazil. New and undescribed Metarhizium species have been found recently in Brazil and provide a pool of isolates with potential for biocontrol in Brazil and probably also elsewhere. The mortality of adult females of T. urticae when exposed to four new Brazilian species of Metarhizium was compared to the mortality when exposed to M. anisopliae s.s., M. brunneum, M. pingshaense, M. robertsii and Beauveria bassiana ESALQPL63. Fungal suspensions were sprayed onto mites at 107 conidia/mL with 0.05% Tween 80 in laboratory bio-assays. We measured total mortality and percentage sporulating cadavers 10 days after exposure and calculated median lethal time (LT50). The lowest LT50 (4.0 ± 0.17) was observed for mites treated with Metarhizium sp. Indet. 1 (ESALQ1638), which also performed well with respect to mortality after 10 days and capacity to sporulate from cadavers. Among the other little studied species tested, M. pingshaense (ESALQ3069 and ESALQ3222) and Metarhizium Indet. 2 (ESALQ1476) performed well and were comparable to B. bassiana (ESALQPL63). The new Metarhizium isolates and species thus showed potential for biological control.  相似文献

A new species of mermithid nematode, Hexamermis popilliae n. sp. (Nematoda: Mermithidae) is described from the Japanese beetle Popillia japonica Newman in Italy, an area of new introduction for this invasive pest. The combination of the following characters separates H. popilliae from other members of the genus Hexamermis Steiner, 1924: adult head obtuse; amphidial pouches slightly posterior to lateral head papillae in female but adjacent to lateral head papillae in males; amphidial openings large, well developed; amphidial pouches elliptical in females and oblong in males; cuticular vulvar cone well developed, vulvar lips greatly reduced or lacking, vagina curved at tip where meeting uteri, without reverse bend (not S-shaped), spicules slightly curved, with a slight bend in the basal portion, approximately equal to body width at cloaca. This is the first record of a species of Hexamermis parasitizing the Japanese beetle Popillia japonica. The only previous mention of mermithid nematodes from P. japonica was an undescribed species of Psammomermis in North America. Hexamermis popilliae will be evaluated as a potential biological control agent in an integrated control program of the Japanese beetle in Italy.  相似文献
