Plant-provided food may enhance survival and establishment of omnivorous predators on target crops but on the other hand they may adversely affect predation rates and thus their potential for biological control of target pests. However, it is not known how predation is affected by plant food quality and prey density. The omnivorous predator Macrolophus pygmaeus is commonly used in augmentative releases in greenhouse crops. Experiments have shown its ability to utilize plant resources; eggplant and pepper plant leaves are the most and least suitable, respectively. In this study we searched the effects of floral resources (pollen or flower) of eggplant or pepper plant on the predation rate of M. pygmaeus. We used experiments in dishes (leaves) and cages (plants) under a range of densities of its prey, the aphid Myzus persicae. We did not find evidence that the consumption rates and the type of the functional responses of M. pygmaeus were affected by the plant leaf (eggplant vs pepper plant) or the increase in the spatial scale (leaf vs plant). However, the presence of pollen or a flower of eggplant and to a lesser extent of pepper plant reduced the plateau of the functional response to aphid density and increased the handling time per prey. The extent of prey feeding replacement by flower resources was dependent on the interaction between plant species and prey density. It seems that there is a constant rate of prey consumption replacement at intermediate and high prey densities on eggplant but only at intermediate prey densities on pepper plant. These results indicate the interactions between plant and prey resources in diets of omnivores and may be useful for its efficacy in pest control on eggplant and pepper plant.  相似文献

  • 2 The relationships between the three host plants and the feeding behaviour, larval movement and performance of cabbage looper larvae that might relate to their interaction with AcMNPV applications were investigated.
  • 3 Larvae reared on cucumber plants consumed approximately ten‐fold more leaf area than larvae reared on pepper plants and almost five‐fold more than larvae reared on tomato plants. This could influence the amount of AcMNPV consumed if it were used as a microbial spray because increased consumption can be associated with increased probability of infection. Survival from neonate to pupa also varied, with the greatest being on cucumber, followed by tomato and pepper plants. Larvae fed cucumber were approximately four‐fold heavier than larvae fed tomato and over 15‐fold heavier than larvae fed pepper plants.
  • 4 The distribution of larvae on plants in commercial greenhouses where a single crop was being grown also varied with food plant with 73% being found on the bottom and middle portions of tomato plants and 87% occurring in the top portions of pepper plants. Larvae tended to be distributed on the middle portion of cucumber plants, the lower portion of tomato plants and the top portion of pepper plants. Larval movement did not vary between AcMNPV‐infected and uninfected controls.
  • 5 It is predicted that the higher leaf area consumption and location of larvae in the middle portion of cucumber plants may make them more susceptible to viral sprays. Furthermore, given their greater survival than larvae fed tomato and pepper, there may be a greater need for virus applications.

Bacillus subtilis strain BSCBE4 and Pseudomonas chlororaphis strain PA23 (=P. aureofaciens) were effective biocontrol agents against Pythium aphanidermatum, the causal agent of damping-off of hot pepper (Capsicum annum L.) in greenhouse vegetable production systems. Application of strains BSCBE4 and PA23 at the rate of 20 g kg-1 of seed significantly increased the growth of hot pepper seedlings. The efficacies of various carriers in sustaining the population of these strains in storage were assessed. Both the antagonists survived up to 180 days of storage in peat and talc-based formulations. The two bacterial strains induced development of plant defence-related enzymes including phenylalanine ammonia lyase, peroxidase, polyphenol oxidase, phenol content, suppressed incidence of damping-off and increased growth of hot pepper seedlings.  相似文献

互花米草(Spartina alterniflora)入侵盐沼生态系统导致了土著广食性昆虫素毒蛾(Laelia coenosa)发生宿主转移。但是, 目前对素毒蛾在互花米草和芦苇(Phragmites australis)上的生活史规律的比较尚未见报道, 而此信息对评价素毒蛾能否持续利用互花米草具有重要的参考价值。为了明确素毒蛾在其原始宿主芦苇和外来新宿主互花米草上的生活史动态, 我们在上海崇明长江口盐沼湿地中, 对素毒蛾在芦苇和互花米草生境中的发生情况进行了系统调查。结果显示, 虽然素毒蛾在芦苇和互花米草上均一年发生3代, 并都以幼虫越冬, 但在互花米草生境中, 越冬代幼虫开始越冬的时间要比芦苇中晚20 d左右, 其他世代中的多个虫态在互花米草上持续出现的时间也比芦苇上延迟了约10 d。这些结果表明, 互花米草入侵后素毒蛾在外来植物上出现的持续时间虽然发生了延长, 但其年世代数未变化。我们推测素毒蛾在互花米草和芦苇上生长发育规律的差异可能受生境的资源可利用性及两种植物的营养与防御水平调控。  相似文献

Newly-hatched larvae of the brachyuran crab, Hemigrapsus oregonensis, were raised in the laboratory on an autotrophic dinoflagellate (Prorocentrum micans), a heterotrophic dinoflagellate (Noctiluca milaris), a green alga (Dunaliella tertiolecta), an unfed control, and a fed control of Artemia sp. nauplii. Larvae also were fed preparations of seagrass detritus that had been cultured both to promote microbial colonization and to discourage it. Detrital diets were used both alone and in combination with sub-optimal applications of Artemia sp. nauplii. Larvae raised on P. micans showed survival to zoeal stage II equal to those raised on the Artemia sp. nauplii control, although development was delayed. Larvae raised on N. milaris showed substantial (34.7%) survival to zoeal stage II; however survival was lower and development slower than for Artemia sp. nauplii-fed larvae. Survival on D. tertiolecta was less than 3%. Larvae fed microbially-enriched detritus showed a delay in mortality as compared to unfed controls. No larvae fed solely on detritus survived to zoeal stage II. When larvae were fed a sub-optimal diet of Artemia nauplii, supplemented by detrital particles, survival to zoeal stage II increased, although not to the level shown by Artemia-fed larvae in optimal application. Development was not accelerated over the sub-optimal diet in either treatment. The potential for larval crabs to utilize a wide variety of potential prey immediately upon hatching is significant given their susceptibility to early starvation. Such omnivory also suggests a trophic link between carbon sources of the microbial loop and crab larvae.  相似文献

ABI3是ABA信号通路中关键的转录调控因子, 参与种子休眠、质体发育及苔藓耐干等重要生理过程, 在植物抗逆中发挥关键作用。以荒漠耐干苔藓——齿肋赤藓(Syntrichia caninervis)为材料, 克隆了抗逆基因ScABI3并获得3个独立的pCAMBIA1301-ScABI3转基因拟南芥(Arabidopsis thaliana)纯合株系。结果表明, 转基因拟南芥叶片气孔孔径增大, 单位面积气孔数量减少, 植株水分利用效率提高; 在干旱处理14天后转基因拟南芥植株存活率显著高于野生型, 离体叶片失水率显著低于野生型。进一步研究发现, ScABI3转基因拟南芥通过提高自身活性氧(ROS)清除能力增强植株抗旱性。研究结果可为开发利用荒漠植物基因资源培育抗逆作物品种奠定基础。  相似文献

植物DnaJ-Like锌指蛋白(DNAJE)是近年来发现的一类具有重要功能的蛋白,在光合作用、质体发育与运动和植物抗逆及防御反应中发挥重要作用。基于辣椒全基因组数据,对辣椒DNAJE基因家族(CaDNAJE)进行鉴定,利用生物信息学方法对基因和蛋白特征、比较进化、共线性关系及高温胁迫下基因表达模式等进行分析。结果表明,CaDNAJE基因家族有28个成员,不均匀的分布在10条染色体和3个Scaffold上,氨基酸序列长度为99-470 aa,分子量为10.05-52.26 kD,理论等电点(pI)为4.75-9.64,其编码蛋白主要定位在叶绿体和细胞核中;辣椒、番茄和拟南芥的比较进化分析可将其分为GroupⅠ 和GroupⅡ 2个亚族,同一亚族具有类似的蛋白保守motif和基因结构;CaDNAJE基因启动子区包含大量光响应、激素响应和胁迫应答元件;辣椒与拟南芥DNAJE之间存在10对共线性基因,辣椒种内仅有1对;辣椒不同组织转录组分析发现,GroupⅠ 中多数成员在各组织中均有高表达,而GroupⅡ 中除CaDNAJE2CaDNAJE9等基因存在高表达外,多数基因表达量都很低甚至不表达;高温胁迫下,辣椒叶片过氧化氢含量急速上升后降低,丙二醛含量持续升高,抗氧化物酶活性也有不同程度的提高。同时,高温诱导热激转录因子Hsf和热激蛋白HSP耐热相关基因及CaDNAJE基因高表达,在不同胁迫时期发挥调控作用。推测CaDNAJE基因家族可能参与辣椒响应高温胁迫,提高其耐受力,以降低细胞损伤。  相似文献

Habitat manipulation has long been used as strategy to enhance beneficial insects in agroecosystems. Non-crop weed strips have the potential of supplying food resources to natural enemies, even when pest densities are low. However, in tropical agroecosystems there is a paucity of information pertaining to the resources provided by non-crop weeds and their interactions with natural enemies. In this study we evaluated (a) whether weeds within chili pepper fields affect the diversity and abundance of aphidophagous species; (b) whether there are direct interactions between weeds and aphidophagous arthropods; and (c) the importance of weed floral resources for survival of a native and exotic coccinellid in chili pepper agroecosystems. In the field, aphidophagous arthropods were dominated by Coccinellidae, Syrphidae, Anthocoridae, Neuroptera and Araneae, and these natural enemies were readily observed preying on aphids, feeding on flowers or extrafloral nectaries, and using plant structures for oviposition and/or protection. Survival of native Cycloneda sanguinea (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) differed between plant species, with significantly greater survival on Ageratum conyzoides and Bidens pilosa. However, no evidence was gathered to suggest that weed floral resources provided any nutritional benefit to the exotic Harmonia axyridis (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae). This research has provided evidence that naturally growing weeds in chili pepper agroecosystems can affect aphid natural enemy abundance and survival, highlighting the need for further research to fully characterize the structure and function of plant resources in these and other tropical agroecosystems.  相似文献

In recent years, the dominant biotype of Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) has shifted from biotype B to Q in many locations of China. Our field monitoring showed that B. tabaci biotype Q could be found on pepper Capsicum frutescens L. while biotype B could not be found on the plant. To study the role of the host plant in the displacement of biotype B by Q, the adult mortality, female fecundity, and adult emergence of both biotypes B and Q on different host combinations were studied using a model system involving pepper and eggplant. The results showed that pepper is not a preferred host for either biotype B or Q adults in comparison with eggplant. The negative impact of pepper to biotype B is, however, much greater than that to biotype Q. Because both the survival rates of the adult whitefly and the average number of emerged adults per female of biotype Q on pepper are higher than that of biotype B, biotype Q showed higher fitness in comparison with biotype B. Our results suggest that the existence and differential impact of a nonpreferred host might affect the population fitness and therefore could play a role in the displacement of biotype B in some regions.  相似文献

Differences in the ability of salivary proteins from Scandinavian and North American moose (Alces alces) to bind tannins from various preferred food plant sources were studied. Both Scandinavian and North American moose produce a salivary tannin-binding protein which binds only condensed tannins common in their diet. The tannins of winter-browsed stems of Pinus sylvestris and Salix pentandra were more effectively bound by salivary tannin-binding protein from North American moose than by those from Scandinavian moose. Tannins of P. sylvestris and S. pentandra stems were also more effective binding agents than tannins from S. caprea and Betula species. The interactions between salivary tannin-binding protein and plant tannins may be one factor affecting food plant choice of moose. The chemical and biochemical characteristics of plant tannins and the ability of salivary tannin-binding proteins to react with tannins should be taken into account in diet selection.  相似文献

水鹿(Rusa unicolor)为珍稀濒危动物, 属国家II级重点保护野生动物, 其食物匮乏季的食性研究对其保护至关重要。本文以四川邛崃山系鞍子河保护地的水鹿为研究对象, 采用高通量测序(high-throughput sequencing, HTS)技术对其冬季18份有效粪便样品中的摄食植物进行了分析。结果表明: (1)水鹿摄食植物有50科94属; (2)水鹿冬季偏好食物为悬钩子属(Rubus)、山茱萸属(Cornus)、青荚叶属(Helwingia)、马蓝属(Strobilanthes)、荚蒾属(Viburnum)、清风藤属(Sabia)、旌节花属(Stachyurus)、菝葜属(Smilax)、槭属(Acer)和绣球属(Hydrangea)植物, 且蔷薇科悬钩子属植物为最重要的食物来源; (3)水鹿在冬季摄食植物多样性高、食物生态位宽; (4)水鹿具有强的环境适应性和资源利用能力, 在冬季会通过摄食更多的植物类型和适当调整生态位而适应环境变化。本研究结论将有利于水鹿及其同域生活的偶蹄目动物的管理策略制定。  相似文献

We examined the relative importance of parental nutritional condition and larval food ration on the rates of development, growth and metamorphosis of larvae of Strongylocentrotus droebachiensis (Müller) in a laboratory experiment. Parents were reared for 22 months on either a high ration of kelp (Laminaria spp., 6 days week−1) supplemented with mussel flesh (Mytilus spp., 1 day week−1) (KM), or a low ration of kelp (1 day week−1) (KL). Larvae were fed either a high ration (5000 cells ml−1) or a low ration (500 cells ml−1) of microalgae (Dunaliella tertiolecta). Larval food ration had a strong effect on the rates of development, growth, and metamorphosis, which were all significantly greater in larvae fed the high ration. Test diameter of settlers also was significantly greater in the high than the low ration. Parental nutritional condition had little or no effect on the rates of development and growth, and no effect on settler size. The rate of metamorphosis was significantly higher in larvae from the KM than the KL treatment in the high but not the low ration (where rates of metamorphosis were similar). Although parental condition generally had a small effect on larval development, our results suggest that when planktonic food is abundant, larvae of adults from nutritionally rich habitats (such as kelp beds) may metamorphose sooner than those of adults from nutritionally poor habitats (such as barrens).  相似文献

The sweetpotato whitefly, Bemisia tabaci biotype B is extremely polyphagous with >600 species of host plants. We hypothesized that previous experience of the whitefly on a given host plant affects their host selection and performance on the plants without previous experience. We investigated the host selection for feeding and oviposition of adults and development and survival of immatures of three host-plant-experienced populations of B. tabaci, namely Bemisia-eggplant, Bemisia-tomato and Bemisia-cucumber, on their experienced host plant and each of the three other plant species (eggplant, tomato, cucumber and pepper) without previous experience. We found that the influence of previous experience of the whiteflies varied among the populations. All populations refused pepper for feeding and oviposition, whereas the Bemisia-cucumber and the Bemisia-eggplant strongly preferred cucumber. Bemisia-tomato did not show strong preference to any of the three host palnts. Development time from egg to adult eclosion varied among the populations, being shortest on eggplant, longest on pepper, and intermediate on tomato and cucumber except for the Bemisia-cucumber developed similarly on tomato and pepper. The survivorship from egg to adult eclosion of all populations was highest on eggplant (80-98%), lowest on pepper (0-20%), and intermediate on tomato and cucumber. In conclusion, the effects of previous experience of whiteflies on host selection for feeding and oviposition, development, and survivorship varied depending on host plants, and host plants play a stronger role than previous experience. Preference of feeding and oviposition by adults may not accurately reflect host suitability of immatures. These results provided important information for understanding whitefly population dynamics and dispersal among different crop systems.  相似文献

The pepper weevil, Anthonomus eugenii Cano, is an important pest of Capsicum spp. pepper in Florida, Puerto Rico, and Central America. Catolaccus hunteri Crawford is the most abundant parasitoid attacking pepper weevil larvae in Florida. Weekly releases of C. hunteri at a rate of 1600 adults per 0.2-ha plot in organically-grown bell pepper, C. annuum L., beginning at first bloom resulted in fewer weevil infested fruit compared to 0.2-ha plots where no parasitoids were released. Weekly releases of C. hunteri adults on nightshade, Solanum americanum Mill, during the fall/winter off-season followed by weekly releases of the same parasitoid in adjacent bell pepper during the spring in-season resulted in fewer infested pepper fruit compared to off-season nightshade and in-season pepper where no parasitoids were released. The results of these experiments demonstrate the potential of augmentative releases of C. hunteri for suppressing infestations of pepper fruit by pepper weevil larvae.  相似文献

狼毒(Stellera chamaejasme)是我国退化草原上常见的一种毒害草,在一些退化严重的草原上可能形成以狼毒为优势种的群落,严重影响我国天然草原畜牧业的可持续发展。本文根据狼毒的枝条数将狼毒种群划分成10个龄级(Ⅰ~Ⅹ),研究了坝上地区退化典型草原狼毒种群的年龄结构、种群结构动态指数、种群静态生命表、存活曲线及生存分析,量化狼毒种群的生存状况。结果表明: 研究区内狼毒种群年龄结构呈增长型,狼毒幼苗充足但存活率不高;狼毒种群结构呈增长型,但种群发展过程存在波动性,特别是在第Ⅱ、Ⅷ龄级时个体数量会发生骤降,是狼毒种群自身发展的瓶颈时期;狼毒种群的存活曲线为Deevey-Ⅱ型,但生存分析表明狼毒种群具有前期锐减、后期稳定的特点,主要因为Ⅰ或Ⅱ龄级狼毒的死亡密度函数(fx)和危险率(λx)最大。Ⅰ龄级个体充足是狼毒种群在退化典型草原扩张的基础,但幼龄个体的转化率低可能是狼毒种群在草原退化早期无法快速扩张的原因之一。建议在草原退化早期狼毒数量有限时及早介入进行防除。  相似文献

报道了棉花、烟草、番茄和辣椒4种植物对棉铃虫Helicoverpa armigera生长发育和繁殖的影响。棉铃虫成虫喜欢在番茄上产卵,在辣椒上的着卵量最少。初孵幼虫喜选食嫩棉叶,选食辣椒嫩叶的虫数最少。4组幼虫取食嫩叶时的平均相对生长速率都有显著差异,顺序为棉叶组>烟叶组>番茄叶组>辣椒叶组。幼虫存活率以取食棉花时最高,取食番茄时最低。棉花组成虫的产卵量最高,烟草组的产卵量最低。取食棉花的棉铃虫种群增长的速度约为取食番茄时的14倍。6龄幼虫能有效利用和转化棉铃、烟草蒴果、辣椒果实,而对番茄果实的利用和转化效率较低。棉铃虫可分别以这4种植物的不同器官为食完成世代循环。其中,棉花是最适宜的寄主,辣椒和番茄是较不适宜的寄主。  相似文献

西藏马鹿为我国特有种,曾一度被认定为野外灭绝。在其生境中有多种食性相近的野生有蹄类及家畜同域分布,探究青藏高原特殊环境下西藏马鹿与这些有蹄类的食物资源种间竞争与共存关系十分必要。2013年和2014年8—9月,采用粪便显微分析法确定了桑日县西藏马鹿自然保护区西藏马鹿、白唇鹿、藏原羚、牦牛、山羊草青期食物组成,并比较分析了西藏马鹿与同域野生有蹄类、家畜之间的食物重叠和分化状况。结果表明: 西藏马鹿与其他有蹄类具有相似的可食植物种类组成,但所占食谱比例不同。西藏马鹿主要可食植物多为其他有蹄类次要可食植物,其中弱小火绒草为西藏马鹿(在动物食谱中的百分比为11.2%)与牦牛(10.2%)共同的主要食物,西藏柳为西藏马鹿(9.6%)和白唇鹿(11.4%)共同的主要食物。从科级水平来看,豆科植物为西藏马鹿(21.4%)与藏原羚(42.5%)的共同主要可食植物,莎草科植物为白唇鹿(49.2%)、牦牛(33.4%)、山羊(50.3%)的共同主要可食植物。菊科植物作为西藏马鹿(29.6%)的主要可食植物,也是白唇鹿(7.6%)、藏原羚(11.6%)、牦牛(17.3%)和山羊(14.1%)的次要可食植物。禾本科植物作为西藏马鹿(7.1%)次要可食植物,较其他4种有蹄类(白唇鹿13.6%、藏原羚12.3%、牦牛11.5%、山羊16.0%)所占比例低。西藏马鹿与其他有蹄类食物重叠度均高于0.5,与牦牛的重叠度最高(0.65)。西藏马鹿食物多样性指数(1.32)、均匀度指数(0.37)和生态位宽度指数(15.79)均较高。与2007—2008年相比,西藏马鹿食物组成变化较大,豆科植物比例增大,莎草科植物比例降低,食物质量总体有所提高。西藏马鹿与家畜之间存在较高的食物资源竞争,这将进一步影响西藏马鹿的分布范围和生存空间。  相似文献

Banker plants are intended to enhance biological control by sustaining populations of natural enemies. Banker plants do this by providing alternative sources of food for natural enemies, such as pollen for omnivorous predators, thus decreasing the likelihood of their starvation and emigration from a cropping system when pest populations are low or absent. A banker plant system consisting of the Black Pearl pepper, Capsicum annuum ‘Black Pearl’, and the omnivorous minute pirate bug, Orius insidiosus Say (Hemiptera: Anthocoridae) has recently been proposed to improve biological control of thrips. Therefore, we studied how pollen from the Black Pearl pepper plant affects O. insidiosus fitness and abundance through a series of laboratory and greenhouse experiments. We found that a mixed diet of pollen and thrips increased O. insidiosus female longevity, decreased nymphal development time, and yielded larger females compared to a diet of thrips alone. Furthermore, O. insidiosus abundance was greater on flowering pepper plants than non-flowering pepper plants. From these results, we suggest that pollen from Black Pearl pepper banker plants could increase adult O. insidiosus abundance for the purpose of biological control in two ways: (1) reduce starvation and increase longevity of O. insidiosus when prey is absent; (2) enhance O. insidiosus fitness and fecundity when prey is present by mixing plant and prey diets. These results encourage future studies with the Black Pearl pepper as a banker plant for improving biological control of thrips in commercial greenhouses.  相似文献

为了配合“十五”863项目研究红树林修复海水滩涂养殖水的营养污染,在深圳海上田园旅游区的科技试验区鱼塘构筑种植岛种植一年生红树植物海桑(Sonneratia caseolarisL.)、桐花树(Ageiceras corniculatum(L.)Blanco)、秋茄(Kandelia candelL.Druce)并监测了解其生长发育的情况及物候期;掌握危害红树林植物生长的主要病虫害.结果表明,海桑生长速度快,各生长形态指标都远大于秋茄和桐花树,并且具有良好的抗逆特性但怕冷冻.秋茄生长速度慢,对环境的适应能力差,怕水淹,成活率最低;桐花树抗逆性强,成活率最高.红树林植物幼龄时期容易受到病虫害严重威胁,要做好防治工作,保证红树林植物的健康生长.  相似文献
