Ninety eight type specimens collected by Sebastián Vidal in the Philippines, and kept at the Real Jardín Botánico Herbarium, Madrid (MA), are compiled. Most of these specimens are types of Vidal's names. Only a few are names of other authors (Hoogland, Merrill, and Rolfe). A list of specimens, as well as the indicatio locotypica and number in MA, is presented. © 2009 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society, 2009, 159 , 292–299.  相似文献

In the course of reconstructing the Brazilian herbarium of Prince Maximilian of Wied, several species were found in the literature which need either correction or clarification. Problems include priority considerations, authority of species names, conflicting typifications and other errors. This paper reports 12 currently accepted species collected by Prince Maximilian in Brazil, commenting on their taxonomic status and nomenclature. Included are type specimens of Andromeda ambigua Schrad. (lecto and isolectotypes; = Agarista revoluta (Spreng.) Hook. f. ex Nied.), Andromeda crassifolia Nees (lecto and isolectotypes; = Agarista revoluta), Aphelandra marginata Nees & Mart. (lecto and isolectotypes), Aphelandra maximiliana (Nees) Benth. (lecto and isolectotypes), Ceiba ventricosa (Nees & Mart.) Ravenna (lectotype), Cinnamodendron axillare (Nees) Endl. ex Walp. (lecto and isolectotypes), Croton gnaphaloides Schrad. (lecto and isolectotype), C. klaenzei Müll. Arg. (holotype), Geissomeria nitida (Nees & Mart.) Nees & Mart. (lecto and isolectotypes), Nectandra squarrosa Nees var. pyrifolia Nees (lecto and isolectotypes; = Ocotea squarrosa (Nees) Mez), Ocotea squarrosa (lecto and isolectotypes), Pavonia semiserrata (Schrad.) Steud. (lecto and isolectotypes), Stenandrium serpens Nees (lecto and isolectotypes), Zollernia falcata Wied-Neuw. & Nees (lecto and isolectotypes; = Z. glabra (Spreng.) Yakovlev) and Z. splendens Wied-Neuw. & Nees (lectotype; = Z. glabra). Additionally, a new name, Aphelandra verrugensis P. L. R. Moraes, is proposed to replace Synandra amoena Schrad., which is the oldest name of the taxon currently known as Aphelandra ignea Nees.  相似文献

The Flora of Syria, Palestine and Sinai, a pioneer Flora of the region, was published in 1896 by George Edward Post (1838–1909). Lesser known are his series of Diagnoses plantarum novarum orientalium, published in the Journal of the Linnean Society Botany, and 10 papers, Plantae Postianae, which appeared in Swiss journals from 1890 to 1900. A greatly expanded second edition of the Flora was prepared by John Edward Dinsmore and published in Beirut in 1932 and 1933. Post's plant collection is part of the Post Herbarium (BEI), with about 63 000 specimens, that has been well maintained, despite civil war and inadequate staffing. This work involves the identification of around 150 types in BEI and BM, and improvement of the accessibility of the specimens. © 2009 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society, 2009, 159 , 315–321.  相似文献

During a stay at the Kirstenbosch Research Centre in Cape Town (South Africa), several groups of Asteraceae were studied. One of these was the genus Marasmodes (tribe Anthemideae). After a careful taxonomic study of additional material, including the first species described by A. P. de Candolle, the author has concluded that eight collections should be considered as new species. These new species are described and their relationships with the most similar species of the genus are discussed. © 2009 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society, 2009, 159 , 330–342.  相似文献

The holotype and referred specimens of Geosaurus giganteus, a metriorhynchid crocodile from the Tithonian (Upper Jurassic) of Germany, is redescribed, along with a historical overview of the genus and species. This taxon is unique among metriorhynchids as its serrated, strongly lateromedially compressed dentition is arranged as opposing blades, suggesting it was adapted to efficiently slice through fleshy prey. A new phylogenetic analysis of Crocodylomorpha is presented, which finds G. giganteus to be nested within what is currently considered Dakosaurus, whereas the other species currently assigned to Geosaurus form a clade with Enaliosuchus and the holotype of Cricosaurus. The phyletic relationship of G. giganteus with other metriorhynchids indicates that the current definition of the genus Geosaurus is polyphyletic, and that the inclusion of subsequent longirostrine species to this genus is in error. The re‐analysis presented herein demonstrates Geosaurus to be composed of three species sensu stricto. The appropriate taxonomic amendments to the Metriorhynchidae are also provided. © 2009 The Linnean Society of London, Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society, 2009, 157 , 551–585.  相似文献

Recent revision of the fern diversity of the French Caribbean island of Guadeloupe and its dependencies (Marie Galante, Les Saintes and La Désirade) resulted in the listing of 292 native ferns and club mosses in 28 families and 88 genera, of which eight ferns are endemic to Guadeloupe and 20 taxa are only recorded from the Lesser Antilles. Additionally, 21 species have recently been found to be naturalized. Nineteen new combinations are made and a new hybrid is described. Many types from the Fée collection have been reassessed and a number of names are lecto‐ or neotypified. Studied specimens are cited and localities are provided. © 2009 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society, 2009, 161 , 213–277.  相似文献

The karyotypes of 16 populations belonging to eight species of Polygonatum from China were analysed. The chromosome numbers and karyotypes of P. omeiense, P. adnatum and P. hirtellum and the diploidy of P. tessellatum are reported for the first time. The basic chromosome numbers were x = 11, 13, 14 and 15. Based on Stebbins' karyotypic classification, the four karyotypes were recognized as 2B, 3B, 2C and 3C. Considering the arm ratio and individual chromosome size, it was concluded that the possible evolutionary trend of the karyotypes in Polygonatum was from 2B to 3C. The results show that: (1) satellite heterozygosity occurs in many species of this genus; (2) mixoploidy and B chromosomes occur in some species; and (c) karyotypes are different in different species and even in different populations of the same species. © 2009 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society, 2009, 159 , 245–254.  相似文献

This study, which includes 51 species and six genera of subfamily Abietoideae (Pinaceae), assesses the systematic significance of the wood structure in this group. In particular, the presence of normal and traumatic resin canals, the ray structure and the axial parenchyma constitute phylogenetically informative features. Comparative wood anatomy of Abietoideae clearly supports the monophyly of the genera Abies–Cedrus–Keteleeria–Nothotsuga–Pseudolarix–Tsuga, all of which have axial parenchyma with nodular transverse end walls in the regions of growth ring boundaries, crystals in the ray parenchyma and pitted horizontal and nodular end walls of ray parenchyma cells. Axial resin canals support a subdivision of the subfamily into two groups: Abies, Cedrus, Pseudolarix and Tsuga, without axial resin canals, and Keteleeria and Nothotsuga, with axial resin canals and a specific arrangement of traumatic axial resin canals. © 2009 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society, 2009, 160 , 184–196.  相似文献

The Bornean species of Callicarpa (Lamiaceae) are revised. Twenty three species are recognized: of these, four are described as new ( C. argentii , C. coriacea , C. subaequalis and C. teneriflora ) and two are raised to species level from variety ( C. endertii and C. hispida ). All 23 species described are assessed for World Conservation Union (IUCN) conservation status. Distribution maps and an identification key are provided. The historic confusion between the genera Geunsia and Callicarpa is discussed. Geunsia is included as a synonym of Callicarpa based on the examination of morphological characters and molecular data. Geunsia is suggested to be nested within Callicarpa based on phylogenetic analyses of nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (nrITS), partial matK and trnD‐T sequences of 30 taxa using maximum parsimony. © 2009 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society, 2009, 159 , 416–455.  相似文献

The taxonomic status of Centaurea section Acrocentron in Iran is briefly reviewed. A critical study of 251 herbarium specimens, and an additional 37 accessions collected specifically for this research, led to the discovery of a new variety, Centaurea irritans var. longispinosa Montazerolghaem , and the revival of another, C. persica var. subinermis, a taxon previously treated as a synonym for about 25 years. A key to all Iranian species of Centaurea section Acrocentron is provided. © 2010 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society, 2010, 163 , 99–106.  相似文献

The floral organs of Sinofranchetia chinensis Hemsl. (Lardizabalaceae) are all spiral in initiation. Stamen and petal (nectar‐leaf) primordia initiate independently and are different in shape. The petals and three stamens in the first whorl are retarded in the early developmental stages. The carpel primordia are conduplicate; the stigma is formed around the upper part of the ventral slit and the style is not differentiated. The functionally unisexual flowers are bisexual in organization in the early developmental stages. The development of the flowers on the inflorescence is spiral and centripetal. Some floral characteristics of Sinofranchetia appear to be plesiomorphic in Lardizabalaceae. © 2009 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society, 2009, 160 , 82–92.  相似文献
