Objective: Binge eating disorder (BED) is positively associated with obesity and psychological distress, yet the behavioral features of BED that drive these associations are largely unexplored. The primary aim of this study was to investigate which core behavioral features of binge eating are most strongly related to psychological disturbance. Methods and Procedures: A cross‐sectional study involved 180 bariatric surgery candidates, 93 members of a non‐surgical weight loss support group, and 158 general community respondents (81 men/350 women, mean age 45.8 ± 13.3, mean BMI 34.8 ± 10.8, BMI range 17.7–66.7). Validated questionnaires assessed BED and binge eating, symptoms of depression, appearance dissatisfaction (AD), quality of life (QoL) and eating‐related behaviors. Features of binge eating were confirmed by interview. BMI was determined by clinical assessment and self‐report. Results: The loss of control (LOC) over eating, that is, being unable to stop eating or control what or how much was consumed was most closely related to psychological markers of distress common in BED. In particular, those who experienced severe emotional disturbance due to feelings of LOC reported higher symptoms of depression (P < 0.001), AD (P = 0.009), and poorer mental health–related QoL (P = 0.027). Discussion: Persons who report subjective binge episodes or do not meet BED frequency criteria for objective binge episodes may still be at elevated risk of psychological disturbance and benefit from clinical intervention. Feelings of LOC could drive binge eaters to seek bariatric surgery in an attempt to gain control over body weight and psychologically disturbing eating behavior.  相似文献

Objective: There is a controversial discussion in the literature as to whether individuals with subthreshold binge eating disorder (subBED) differ clinically significantly from individuals with full‐syndrome binge eating disorder (BED). This study was designed to compare eating‐related and general psychopathology at baseline and in response to a multimodal treatment program in obese people with subBED compared with BED. Research Methods and Procedures: A total of 96 obese participants (BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2) were assessed for eating‐related and general psychopathology at baseline. Thirty‐nine participants meeting criteria for BED and 19 participants meeting criteria for subBED attended a 15‐session outpatient group therapy including cognitive behavioral therapy extended by interpersonal therapy, nutritional counseling, and a supervised walking exercise. Participants with eating disorders were reassessed at the end of treatment and at 3‐month follow‐up. The obese control group without an eating disorder (n = 38) was assessed once. This was not a randomized controlled trial. Results: Intent‐to‐treat analyses revealed no differences between subBED and full‐syndrome BED participants with regard to eating‐related and general psychopathology at baseline and with regard to treatment outcome. All participants experienced substantial improvements, and the results remained stable during follow‐up (except for dietary restraint). At follow‐up, participants with subBED and BED remained different from non‐eating disorder controls in eating‐related but not general psychopathology. Discussion: The findings indicate that our multimodal treatment program is equally effective in obese subBED and BED participants, suggesting that a differentiation currently seems not to be of clinical significance.  相似文献

MILLER, PETER M., JULIA A. WATKINS, ROGER G. SARGENT, AND EDWARD J. RICKERT. Self-efficacy in overweight individuals with binge eating disorder. Obes Res. Objective: To evaluate the relationship between self-efficacy judgments in obese individuals with binge eating disorder, “borderline” binge eating disorder, and no binge eating problems. Research Methods and Procedures: Before participation in a residential weight management program, 79 male and female subjects were administered the Weight Efficacy Lifestyle Questionnaire (WEL) and the Binge Eating Scale (BES). Based on DSM-IV diagnostic questions, subjects were categorized as BED, Borderline BED, or non-BED. Results: Krusal-Wallace Rank-Order analysis of variance revealed significant negative associations between binge eating and total WEL scores as well as the subscales of Negative Emotions, Social Pressure, Physical Discomfort, and Positive Activities. Differences were significant between the BED and the Borderline BED groups with the exception of the Social Pressure scale and the Total WEL scores. BED diagnosis as well as severity of binge eating were strongly associated with low self-efficacy ratings. Discussion: These results indicate that obese individuals with binge eating disorder demonstrate lower self-efficacy than those without this condition and that self-efficacy is related to the severity of binge eating.  相似文献

Objective: To examine rates of reported childhood maltreatment in binge eating disorder (BED), and to explore associations with obesity, gender, eating disorder features, and associated functioning. Research Methods and Procedures: Subjects were 145 consecutive outpatients with BED as defined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th edition. Subjects were interviewed and they completed questionnaires to assess eating disorder features and functioning. The Childhood Trauma Questionnaire was given to assess childhood maltreatment in five domains (emotional abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional neglect, and physical neglect). Results: A total of 83% of BED patients reported some form of childhood maltreatment. A total of 59% of BED patients reported emotional abuse, 36% reported physical abuse, 30% reported sexual abuse, 69% reported emotional neglect, and 49% reported physical neglect. There were no differences in the distribution of any form of childhood maltreatment by gender or by obesity status. The different forms of maltreatment were not associated with variability in current body mass index, binge eating, or in the attitudinal features of eating disorders. Only one of the five forms of maltreatment (physical neglect) was associated with dietary restraint in women. Emotional abuse was significantly associated with greater body dissatisfaction, higher depression, and lower self‐esteem in men and women and sexual abuse was associated with greater body dissatisfaction in men. The different forms of maltreatment were unrelated to the age at onset of overweight, dieting, or binge eating. Discussion: BED outpatients reported a wide range of childhood experiences of maltreatment that do not differ by gender or obesity status. Different forms of maltreatment were not associated with the onset of overweight, dieting, or binge eating, or with variability in current body mass index or eating disorder features (except for one association between physical neglect and dietary restraint). Reports of emotional abuse were associated with greater body dissatisfaction and depression and lower self‐esteem in men and women and sexual abuse with greater body dissatisfaction in men.  相似文献

Eating behavior can be influenced by the rewarding value of food, i.e., “liking” and “wanting.” The objective of this study was to assess in normal‐weight dietary restrained (NR) vs. unrestrained (NU) eaters how rewarding value of food is affected by satiety, and by eating a nonhealthy perceived, dessert‐specific food vs. a healthy perceived, neutral food (chocolate mousse vs. cottage cheese). Subjects (24NR age = 25.0 ± 8.2 years, BMI = 22.3 ± 2.1 kg/m2; 26NU age = 24.8 ± 8.0 years, BMI = 22.1 ± 1.7 kg/m2) came to the university twice, fasted (randomized crossover design). Per test‐session “liking” and “wanting” for 72 items divided in six categories (bread, filling, drinks, dessert, sweets, stationery (placebo)) was measured, before and after consumption of chocolate mousse/cottage cheese, matched for energy content (5.6 kJ/g) and individual daily energy requirements (10%). Chocolate mousse was liked more than cottage cheese (P < 0.05). After consumption of chocolate mousse or cottage cheese, appetite and “liking” vs. placebo were decreased in NR and NU (P < 0.03), whereas “wanting” was only decreased in NR vs. NU (P ≤ 0.01). In NR vs. NU “wanting” was specifically decreased after chocolate mousse vs. cottage cheese; this decrease concerned especially “wanting” for bread and filling (P < 0.05). To conclude, despite similar decreases in appetite and “liking” after a meal in NR and NU, NR decrease “wanting” in contrast to NU. NR decrease “wanting” specifically for a nonhealthy perceived, “delicious,” dessert‐specific food vs. a nutritional identical, yet healthy perceived, slightly less “delicious,” “neutral” food. A healthy perceived food may thus impose greater risk for control of energy intake in NR.  相似文献

Objective: For binge eating disorder (BED) to be accepted as a distinct diagnostic category in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, it must be demonstrated that the criteria identify a diagnostic entity that is distinct from bulimia nervosa and obesity. This study examined the difference in total energy intake per day, patterns of energy intake throughout the day, and nutrient content of foods consumed in obese individuals who met the criteria for BED (on binge and non‐binge days) and those who did not. Research Methods and Procedures: Twenty women, 12 who met Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition, criteria for BED and 8 matched obese controls, participated in the study. All participants underwent six random 24‐hour dietary recall telephone interviews conducted by experienced interviewers using the Nutrition Data Software System. Results: The BED group ingested significantly more kilocalories on days when they had binge eating episodes than the obese control group on average. The BED group ate significantly more in the evening on binge days than their control group counterparts. There is some indication in the data that those with BED may be restricting caloric intake. Finally, data indicated that the BED group ate significantly more protein, carbohydrate, and fat on binge days than on non‐binge days. However, the proportion of kilocalories from each nutrient shifted on BED binge days compared with non‐binge days to favor consumption of fat over carbohydrates. Discussion: More research needs to be done to determine if these findings are reproducible. Then, the neurobiological underpinnings of these differences in nutrient intake patterns and nutrient selection can be studied to help to determine the biological basis of the disorder.  相似文献

Objective: To examine the relationship between shame and the behavioral and attitudinal features of eating disorders in men and women diagnosed with binge‐eating disorder (BED). Research Methods and Procedures: Participants were 188 consecutively evaluated adults (38 men and 150 women) who met Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th edition, criteria for BED. Participants were interviewed and completed a battery of measures assessing shame, behavioral and attitudinal features of eating disorders, and general psychological functioning. Results: Shame did not differ significantly by gender and was not associated with BMI or binge‐eating frequency. Shame was significantly associated with the attitudinal features of eating disorders, even after controlling for levels of depression and self‐esteem. When considered separately by gender and controlling for depression and self‐esteem, shame was associated with body dissatisfaction in men and with weight concern in women. Discussion: Men and women with BED, who presented for treatment, reported similar levels of shame. Overall, while shame was related to attitudinal features, the specific associations differed by gender. For men, shame was related to how dissatisfied they felt with their bodies, whereas for women, shame was associated with concerns about weight. Interestingly, shame was not related to BMI or binge‐eating frequency in men or women. These results provide preliminary support for self‐conscious emotions playing different roles in men and women with BED.  相似文献

Objective: To compare different methods for assessing the features of eating disorders in patients with binge eating disorder (BED). Research Methods and Procedures: A total of 47 participants with BED were administered the Eating Disorder Examination (EDE) Interview and completed the EDE‐Questionnaire (EDE‐Q) at baseline. A total of 37 participants prospectively self‐monitored their eating behaviors daily for 4 weeks and then completed another EDE‐Q. Results: At baseline, the EDE and the EDE‐Q were significantly correlated on frequencies of objective bulimic episodes (binge eating), overeating episodes, and on the dietary restraint, eating concern, weight concern, and shape concern subscales. Mean differences in the EDE and EDE‐Q frequencies of objective bulimic episodes and overeating were not significant but scores on the four subscales differed significantly, with the EDE‐Q yielding higher scores. At the 4‐week point, the EDE‐Q retrospective 28‐day assessment was significantly correlated with the prospective daily self‐monitoring records for frequency of objective bulimic episodes and the mean difference between the methods was not significant. The EDE‐Q and self‐monitoring findings for subjective bulimic episodes and objective overeating differed significantly. Discussion: In patients with BED, the three assessment methods showed some areas of acceptable convergence.  相似文献

This study evaluated available controlled treatment studies to determine utility of pharmacotherapy for binge‐eating disorder (BED). The authors identified randomized placebo‐controlled trials testing pharmacotherapy‐only treatments and controlled trials testing pharmacotherapy with psychotherapy treatments. Meta‐analysis was performed on placebo‐controlled trials with data for attrition, remission, and weight loss. Qualitative review was performed on remaining controlled treatment literature. A total of 33 studies were considered of which 14 studies with a total of 1,279 patients were included in the meta‐analysis of pharmacotherapy‐only treatment and 8 studies with a total of 683 patients were included in the qualitative review of pharmacotherapy combined with psychotherapy interventions. No evidence suggested significant differences between medication and placebo for attrition. Evidence suggested that pharmacological treatments have a clinically significant advantage over placebo for achieving short‐term remission from binge eating (48.7% vs. 28.5%) and for weight loss, although weight losses are not substantial. No data exist to allow evaluation of longer‐term effects of pharmacotherapy‐only treatment for BED. Combining medications with psychotherapy interventions failed to significantly enhance binge outcomes, although specific medications (orlistat, topiramate) enhanced weight losses achieved with cognitive behavioral therapy and behavioral weight loss. In summary, BED patients can be advised that certain pharmacotherapies may enhance likelihood of stopping binge eating short term, but that longer‐term effects are unknown. Although some weight loss may occur, it is unlikely to be substantial with available medications. Combining medications with cognitive or behavioral treatments is unlikely to enhance binge outcomes, but specific medications (orlistat, topiramate) may enhance weight losses, albeit modestly.  相似文献

Objective: To examine the relationship among attempts to lose weight, restraint, and eating behavior in outpatients with binge eating disorder (BED). Research Methods and Procedures: Participants were 93 consecutive outpatients evaluated for a clinical trial who met Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, Fourth edition criteria for BED. The Eating Disorder Examination Interview was administered to assess attempts at weight loss, restraint, different forms of overeating, and the attitudinal psychopathology of eating disorders (i.e., concerns regarding eating, shape, and weight). In addition, the Three‐Factor Eating Questionnaire was used to assess cognitive restraint, hunger, and disinhibition. Psychometrically established measures were given to assess body dissatisfaction, depression, and self‐esteem. Results: The majority of participants (75.3%; N = 70) reported attempting to lose weight, but only 37.6% (N = 35) reported dietary restraint on at least half the days of the month. Dietary restraint and cognitive restraint were not associated with any form of binge eating or overeating. Dietary restraint and cognitive restraint were positively correlated with weight concern, shape concern, and body dissatisfaction, and negatively correlated with body mass index. To further examine the interplay between attempting to lose weight and restraint, three study groups were created: unrestrained nonattempters (21.5%, N = 20), unrestrained attempters (40.9%; N = 38), and restrained attempters (34.4%; N = 32). The three groups did not differ significantly on binge eating or other eating behaviors; however, significant differences were observed for weight concern, shape concern, and body dissatisfaction. Discussion: Attempts to lose weight and restraint are not synonymous for patients with BED. Although 75.3% of BED patients reported that they were attempting to lose weight, only 37.6% reported dietary restraint on at least half the days of the previous month. While restraint was negatively associated with body mass index, it was not related to binge eating or overeating. Our findings raise questions about prevailing models that posit restraint as a predominant factor in the maintenance of binge eating in BED.  相似文献

Objective: Obesity has been linked to both major depressive disorder (MDD) and binge eating disorder (BED) in clinical and epidemiological studies. The present study compared weight loss among patients with and without MDD and BED who participated in a hospital‐based weight loss program modeled after the Diabetes Prevention Program. Research Methods and Procedures: Of 131 obese patients who enrolled in treatment, 17% were diagnosed with MDD only, 13% were diagnosed with BED only, 17% were diagnosed with both MDD and BED, and 53% lacked either diagnosis in a pretreatment clinical interview. Results: After treatment, patients with MDD only attained 63% of the weight loss that non‐depressed patients attained. Patients with BED only attained 55% of the weight loss that non‐binge eaters attained. The effect of MDD on weight loss was not accounted for by the presence of BED or vice versa. Only 27% of patients with both MDD and BED achieved clinically significant weight loss compared with 67% of patients who had neither disorder. Results were not significantly altered when gender, age, and diabetes status were adjusted. Conclusion: Both MDD and BED were prevalent among this obese clinical population, and each disorder was independently associated with worse outcomes. Research is needed to investigate how to increase the efficacy of behavioral weight loss programs for individuals with MDD and/or BED.  相似文献

Objective: The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the utility of food‐reinforced operant task performance in modeling binge‐eating disorder (BED). We hypothesized that food reinforcement after a caloric preload would be related to BED status, but not hunger. Methods and Procedures: We investigated the association between reports of hunger, binge tendency, and food reinforcement in a sample of 18 women (12 non‐BED, 7 lean, 5 obese, and 6 obese BED). Participants completed two sessions of operant task performance after consuming 600 ml of flavored water or 600 ml of a 1 kcal/ml liquid meal. Results: Under the water condition, food reinforcement did not differ between the non‐BED and BED groups, and was positively correlated with hunger ratings across all participants (r = 0.55, P = 0.023). Under the liquid meal condition, food reinforcement was significantly decreased compared with the water condition in the non‐BED group (t = ?2.6, P = 0.026). There was also a significant difference between the non‐BED and BED groups in the fed condition (41 ± 40, 117 ± 60, F = 10.3, P = 0.005, non‐BED vs. BED, respectively, mean ± s.d.). The correlation between food reinforcement and hunger remained significant only in the non‐BED group (r = 0.69, P = 0.011). Discussion: Our results support the hypothesis that food reinforcement measured after a caloric preload is related to BED status but not hunger in those subjects with BED. The data also suggest that operant task performance can be useful in modeling BED criteria such as “eating when not physically hungry.”  相似文献

The opioid receptor mu1 (OPRM1) mediates the action of morphine. Although genetic background plays an important role in the susceptibility toward abuse of drugs as evident from familial, adoption and twin studies, association of specific single‐nucleotide polymorphisms of OPRM1 gene with narcotic addiction is to be established. Here, we demonstrate the involvement of A118G polymorphism of exon1 of human OPRM1 gene (hOPRM1), with heroin and alcohol addiction, in a population in eastern India. Statistical analysis exhibited a significant association of G allele with both heroin and alcohol addiction with a risk factor of Ptrend < 0.05. The functional significance of G allele in A118G single‐nucleotide polymorphisms was evaluated by studying the regulation of protein kinase A (PKA), pCREB, and pERK1/2 by morphine in Neuro 2A cells, stably transfected with either wild type or A118G mutant hOPRM1. Unlike acute morphine treatment, both chronic morphine exposure and withdrawal precipitated by naloxone were differentially regulated by A118 and G118 receptor isoforms when both PKA and pERK1/2 activities were compared. Results suggest that the association of A118G polymorphism to heroin and alcohol addiction may be because of the altered regulation of PKA and pERK1/2 during opioid and alcohol exposures.  相似文献

Bariatric surgery is the most effective treatment for severe obesity. However, evidence suggests that maladaptive eating behaviors such as binge eating, grazing, and a loss of control when eating may impact postsurgical weight outcomes. The current study sought to characterize the weight outcomes, eating patterns, and perceived health‐related quality of life of individuals 3–10 years following gastric bypass (GBP) surgery and to assess the relationships between eating behaviors, weight outcomes, and quality of life. Eligible participants (N = 497) completed an Internet survey of their eating behaviors, health‐related quality of life, and weight history. Participants self‐reported a mean maximum postsurgical loss of 81% of their excess weight and maintained a mean weight loss of 70% 3–10 years following surgery (mean 4.2 years). Eighty‐seven percent reported weight regain ranging from 1 to 124 lb (mean 22.6 lb). Frequency of binge eating, a loss of control when eating, and grazing were all significantly correlated with greater weight regain (binge eating r = 0.24, P = 0.006; loss of control r = 0.36, P < 0.01; grazing r = 0.39, P < 0.001) and lesser excess weight loss (EWL) (binge eating r = ?0.21, P = 0.013; loss of control r = ?0.41, P < 0.001; grazing r = ?0.27, P < 0.001). Poorer health‐related quality of life was associated with binge eating disorder (BED) (t[463] = 9.7, P < 0.001) and grazing two or more times per week (t[361] = 9.0, P < 0.001). These findings suggest that eating disturbances and a loss of control when eating are significant following GBP and are risk factors for diminished weight outcomes.  相似文献

Objective: This study assessed the long‐term effects of group behavioral treatment plus individual cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and/or fluoxetine in binge eating disorder (BED) patients. Research Methods and Procedures: A total of 116 individuals were randomized to an initial five‐month trial and were followed up over two years. Assessments, including binge frequency, weight, and self‐report measures, were administered at pre‐treatment, post‐treatment, and ~6, 12, 18, and 24 months after initial treatment. Results: Across treatment groups, there was overall improvement over 29 months in binge frequency and in binge abstinence. The odds of binge abstinence 2 years post‐treatment were 1.373 times the odds of binge abstinence immediately post‐treatment. There was no significant change in weight over the two‐year period. Subjects who received individual CBT evidenced lower binge frequency over the two‐year follow‐up period than patients who had not received individual CBT. Similarly, CBT was associated with increased rates of binge abstinence. There were no main effects of treatment assignment on weight over the two‐year follow‐up period. There was a significant advantage for fluoxetine assignment over the two‐year follow‐up period on depressive symptoms. Discussion: The major significance of the study rests in its examination of the long‐term effects of standardized interventions for BED. Our findings provide support for the ideas that short‐term treatment may confer long‐term benefit and that not all treatments are equivalent in the benefits they confer.  相似文献

Background: Gastric restrictive surgery induces a marked change in eating behavior. However, the relationship between preoperative and postoperative eating behavior and weight loss outcome has received limited attention. Objective: This study assessed a range of eating behaviors before and 1 year after laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB) and explored the nature and extent of change in eating patterns, their clinical associates, and impact on weight loss. Methods and Procedures: A 12‐month observational study assessed presurgical and postsurgical binge eating disorder (BED), uncontrolled eating, night eating syndrome (NES), grazing, nutrient intake and eating‐related behaviors, and markers of psychological distress. A total of 129 subjects (26 male and 103 female, mean age 45.2 ± 11.5 and BMI 44.3 ± 6.8) participated in this study. Results: Presurgical BED, uncontrolled eating, and NES occurred in 14%, 31%, and 17.1% of subjects, which reduced after surgery to 3.1%, 22.5%, and 7.8%, respectively (P = 0.05 for all). Grazing was prevalent before (26.3%) and after surgery (38.0%). Preoperative BED most frequently became grazers (P = 0.029). The average percentage weight loss (%WL) was 20.8 ± 8.5%; range ?0.67 to 50.0% and percentage of excess weight loss (%EWL) 50.0 ± 20.7%; range ?1.44 to 106.9% (P < 0.001). Uncontrolled eating and grazing after surgery showed high overlap and were associated with poorer %WL (P = 0.008 and P < 0.001, respectively) and elevated psychological distress. Discussion: Consistent with recent studies, uncontrolled eating and grazing were identified as two high‐risk eating patterns after surgery. Clearer characterization of favorable and unfavorable postsurgical eating behaviors, reliable methods to assess their presence, and empirically tested postsurgical intervention strategies are required to optimize weight loss outcomes and facilitate psychological well‐being in at‐risk groups.  相似文献

Objective: Research on long‐term maintenance of weight loss is hampered by the fact that relapse typically does not occur until after 6 months. We sought to determine whether relapses could be induced earlier by intentionally interrupting the momentum of weight loss during a treatment program and thus provide a model for weight maintenance research. Research Methods and Procedures: Subjects (N = 142) were recruited at two centers and randomly assigned to a control group, a long break group (LB), or a short break group (SB). The control group received a standard behavioral weight loss program with 14 weekly sessions; the LB and SB groups received the same. However, the LB group took a 6‐week break after lesson 7, and the SB group took a 2‐week break after lessons 3, 6, and 9. Participants were instructed to stop all weight loss efforts during breaks. Results: Participants seemed to take breaks as prescribed, with interruptions in self‐monitoring, dietary adherence, and self‐weighing (but not in exercise). However, participants quickly resumed these behaviors after the break. Breaks produced a slowing of weight loss or slight regain, but weight losses during the breaks were not significantly different from the control group. Importantly, overall weight losses (0 to 5 months or 0 to 11 months) did not differ between conditions. Discussion: This study was not successful in developing a method to experimentally produce weight loss relapses. However, the finding that prescribed breaks do not have adverse effects may have clinical application.  相似文献

Isothermal recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) assays for the specific detection of “Candidatus Phytoplasma mali (Ca. P. mali),” the causal agent of apple proliferation, were developed. The assays amplify a fragment of the imp gene and amplimers were detected either by fluorescence in real‐time mode (TwistAmp®exo assay) using a fluorophore‐labelled probe or by direct visualization employing a lateral flow device (TwistAmp®nfo assay/Milenia®HybriDetect). The RPA assays specifically amplified DNA from “Ca. P. mali” strains, and cross‐reactivity with other phytoplasmas or plant DNA was not observed. The limit of detection was determined with a cloned imp standard, and positive results were obtained down to 10 copies with both RPA assay formats. In comparison with a TaqMan real‐time PCR assay based on the same target gene, the RPA assays were equally sensitive, but results were obtained faster. Simplified nucleic acid extraction procedures from plant tissue with Tris‐ and CTAB‐based buffers revealed that crude Tris–DNA extracts were a suitable source for RPA tests while larger concentrations of CTAB were inhibitory. This is the first report of RPA‐based assays for the detection of “Ca. P. mali”. The assays are suitable for high‐throughput screening of plant material and point‐of‐care diagnostic and can be potentially combined with a simplified DNA extraction procedure.  相似文献

This study examined the degree of misreport in weight, height, and BMI among overweight adults (n = 392) with binge eating disorder (BED) and tested whether the degree of misreport was associated with eating disorder psychopathology and psychological variables. Male (n = 97) and female (n = 295) participants self‐reported height and weight, and were subsequently measured by clinic staff. Participants also completed a series of diagnostic interviews and self‐report assessments. Discrepancies between self‐reported and measured values were modest. The degree of misreport for weight, height, and BMI was not related to eating disorder features, depression, and self‐esteem. Overall, the errors in self‐reported weight and height by overweight patients with BED were very slight. The degree of discrepancy between self‐reported and measured values was not related to eating disorder or psychological features, suggesting that such data are not biased or systematically related to individual differences in overweight patients with BED.  相似文献

The efficient use of nitrogen by crops can minimise environmental risks and maximise returns to farmers. Under organic farming systems, this can be achieved by adjusting the fertilisation management and/or using genetic variability. Seven durum wheat (Triticum durum) cultivars and three emmer (Triticum dicoccum) cultivars were assessed under an organic farming system over a non‐consecutive 4‐year period (2005–11) in Foggia (southern Italy). The objectives were to investigate the agronomic and qualitative characteristics, and to evaluate the agronomic efficiency and adaptability according to three N fertilisation levels (0, 40, 80 kg N ha?1). A split‐plot design was used, with three replications in each year. Nine traits were investigated: heading time, plant height, seed yield, number of spikes m?2, harvest index, specific weight, 1000‐seed weight, and protein and gluten contents. Increasing N to 80 kg ha?1 increased plant height (+7.3%), seed yield (+22.1%), spike density (+16.6%), and protein (+9.8%) and gluten (+2.1%) contents. The emmer genotypes and the oldest durum wheat ‘Cappelli’ showed the highest protein and gluten contents (mean, 13.9%, 11.2%, respectively). The maximum N agronomic efficiency [AE(N)] and N recovery efficiency [RE(N)] were seen for the modern durum wheat cultivars under 40 kg ha?1 N treatment: ‘Duilio’, ‘Iride’ and ‘Varano’. The significant correlation between AE(N) and RE(N) and the year of release of the durum wheat cultivars (r = 0.53, P < 0.05, F = 4.7 for AE(N) and r = 0.57, P < 0.01, F = 5.7 for RE(N), respectively; n = 14) showed that the genetic breeding of this species for high grain yield is associated with an increase in the efficiency of N fertiliser use under organic farming. The highly significant effect for the Genotype × Environment interaction (F = 18.1, P < 0.001) of seed yield indicate the possibility to select for stable genotypes across environments. Based on the additive main effects and multiplicative interaction analysis, and the yield stability index, the varieties ‘Iride’ and ‘Varano’ show high‐stability responses and good seed yields under all N fertiliser treatments. Therefore, these varieties can be recommended for organic farming systems in Mediterranean areas.  相似文献
