Correlation of shift and stay reactions was studied in rats in the process of singling out of the win-stay dominant. It was found that in rat which had no previous experience in receiving reinforcement in multi-arm maze, both the shifts and stay reactions were observed with the dominance of the shifts. In experienced rats formation of the win-stay strategy using a new direction required learning and had three stages: the stage of initial dominant, of displacements and of singling out a new dominant. Formation of a new protracted dominant of win-stay could be gradual (through formation of short-term dominants) or uneven. At repeated changes of the reinforcement place both the tendency to uneven transfer and delayed periods in formation of the protracted dominant were observed.  相似文献

Behaviour of the rats, previously learnt to come back to one and the same place of reinforcement was studied in conditions of periodical changes of this place. It was found that after detection of the new place of reinforcement, the rats could optimize their behaviour according to disposition of this place. Optimization of behaviour consisted in shifts of running direction towards the new reinforcement place and (or) in selective displacements before blinds, according to the places of reinforcement in the experiment. It is suggested that an increase of the role of working memory and apparatus of probabilistic prognosis at choice lies in the basis of optimization.  相似文献

Behavioral responses to stressors and the effects of stressors on maternal behavior change with mothering experience. Corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) is released by stressors and produces stress-like behavioral effects. We tested the effects of ICV infusion of ovine CRH (0.5-4 ug) on pup-directed behaviors in ovariectomized, ovarian steroid-treated virgin rats that were either naive to pups or that had three days of mothering experience. CRH inhibited maternal behavior in naive and experienced rats in a dose-related manner. The magnitude and duration of inhibition, especially at the 1 ug dose, were less in rats with mothering experience. Higher doses of CRH (1 - 4 ug) significantly increased pup-killing in rats that were naive to pups. In contrast, CRH produced no pup-killing in rats with mothering experience.  相似文献

We assessed the role of learning in the expression of female sexual behavior and evaluated the relative importance of age versus experience. Two studies were conducted with ovariectomized ewes submitted to steroid treatment that mimicked an estrus cycle. We compared behavioral (experiments 1 and 2), neurochemical (experiment 1), and endocrine (experiment 2) responses of sexually naive young and adult ewes versus sexually experienced adults when exposed to males. In a third study, we compared their performance in an instrumental learning test and the extent to which it was affected by stress. These experiments showed that proceptivity is affected both by age and sexual experience. In experiment 1 only experienced adults were proceptive and displayed an increase in hypothalamic norepinephrine. By the second estrus cycle (experiment 2) naive adults performed similarly to experienced adults but proceptive behavior was still inferior in young ewes. Receptivity was also different between groups but affected more by age than by sexual experience. All ewes mated during the first interaction with a male, although males' latency to ejaculation was shorter with experienced females than naive adults or naive young. Young ewes found food as readily as adults in experiment 3 but were more affected by stress. Together, these experiments show that both experience and age influence sexual activity and that sensitivity to stress may also be involved. This may contribute to the deficient reproductive performance that is often observed in young female mammals.  相似文献

A three-phase experiment manipulated sexual experience and hormone exposure (perinatally and in adulthood) in female rats housed individually from weaning so as to limit peripubertal social and sexual experience. Noncontact partner preference for a male or estrous female rat was measured both before and after sexual experience, first while rats were under the influence of circulating testosterone propionate (TP) and later after priming them with ovarian hormones (estradiol benzoate and progesterone; EB & P). When implanted with TP capsules and tested while sexually naive, all groups of female rats preferred females to males without differing statistically. However, following three sexual experience sessions with estrous females, differences emerged between the masculinized and control groups in the magnitude of their female-directed preference, with masculinized females demonstrating a significantly greater preference for estrous females. Sexual experience with male rats under EB & P did not result in a significant shift in preference in any group. Histological assessment indicated that the volume of the sexually dimorphic nucleus of the preoptic area (SDN-POA) was increased by exposure to TP postnatally, and SDN-POA volume correlated positively with partner preference scores but only when rats were both sexually experienced and exposed to circulating TP in adulthood. These results suggest that sexual experience interacts with steroid exposure to shape partner preference.  相似文献

Mounting behavior in the female rat has been studied extensively in same-sex interactions, but not in the heterosexual dyad. The present study examined the display of female mounting of castrated noncopulating male rats (FMM). Ovariectomized (OVX) sexually naive female rats (N = 80) were given either estrogen (E) + progesterone (P), E + oil (O), P + O, or O + O treatment for five tests with castrated male rats. FMMs were observed in both the E + P and E + O females. The influence of the ovarian cycle on FMM was also investigated. Vaginal smears from sexually naive females (N = 16) were taken daily for 12 days immediately after testing with castrated males. FMM frequency was greatest during Proestrus. Finally, OVX females (N = 30) treated with E + P were given either 0, 1, 10 multi-ejaculatory heterosexual experiences with intact, sexually experienced males, prior to tests with intact, copulating or castrated, noncopulating males for five tests. Sexually naive females displayed a greater number of mounts relative to the sexually experienced females when tested with castrated, noncopulating males. In contrast, very few FMMs were observed in females of any group tested with intact, copulating males. These data suggest that FMM occurs naturally in rats as a "super-solicitational" behavior that is modified by hormone treatment and prior heterosexual experience.  相似文献

Two experiments explored the motivational impact of primary incentive female cues on the operant behavior of sexually naive and experienced male rats. In the first experiment, a straight-arm runway was used to assess the subjects' motivation to approach a goalbox containing either male or female "targets." Twelve sexually naive Long-Evans males ran for: (1) an empty goalbox; (2) a male conspecific; (3) an ovariectomized (OVX) female; (4) an OVX female given estradiol; (5) or an OVX female treated with estradiol and progesterone. A perforated Plexiglas partition in the goalbox prevented the subject males from physically interacting with the targets, although olfactory, visual, and auditory cues were accessible. We hypothesized that subjects would manifest shorter run times (reflecting greater motivation) when the goalbox contained a receptive/proceptive female as opposed to a nonreceptive female target. Subjects' run times were ordered depending on the nature of the target (from slowest to fastest): empty goalbox, male conspecific, OVX female, OVX + estradiol female, and OVX + estradiol + progesterone female. As predicted, subjects ran significantly faster for a receptive/proceptive female than for a nonreceptive female, indicating that sexually naive males are inherently motivated by female precopulatory cues. In the second experiment, 30 sexually naive male subjects ran for a goalbox containing either a nonestrous (OVX) or an estrous (OVX + estradiol + progesterone) female. Following six trials, 10 males were allowed one intromission with a receptive female, 10 males experienced one ejaculation, and 10 remained sexually naive. Only those males having experienced an ejaculation subsequently decreased their run times for both nonestrous and estrous females, indicating that sexual reinforcement produced by ejaculation, but not intromission, further enhances the motivational impact of female incentive cues.  相似文献

If generalist insect predators are a selective force contributing to patterns of feeding specialization by insect herbivores, then predators should be deterred from eating allelochemical-fed prey. The attack and feeding behaviors of naive predators (Podisus maculiventris stinkbugs) reared on control caterpillars (Manduca sexta) fed plain diet were compared to experienced predators reared on caterpillars fed tomato allelochemicals. Tomatine-fed prey were found more quickly by both naive and tomatine-experienced predators, and chlorogenic acid-experienced predators were more stimulated to begin searching for prey. However, experienced predators were less likely to attack both chlorogenic acidfed and tomatine-fed caterpillars than were naive predators. These results indicate that allelochemical-fed prey were easier for predators to locate, but allelochemical-containing prey often deterred predation by experienced predtors.  相似文献

Hyperprolactinemia (hyperPRL) induced by grafting four pituitary glands under the kidney capsule suppresses copulatory behavior in male rats and sexually naive male mice. In mice sexual experience attenuates the suppressive effects of hyperPRL on mating behavior, thus a comparison of the behavioral consequences of inducing hyperPRL in sexually naive and experienced male rats was undertaken. Hyperprolactinemia had a significant suppressive effect on mating behavior in both groups of animals. Experienced animals showed deficits in all parameters studied except mount frequency and postejaculatory interval, while naive animals differed from respective controls only in mount latency, intromission latency, and intromission frequency. To determine if the inhibition of chronically elevated prolactin (PRL) levels would reverse the suppression of gonadotropin secretion and copulatory behavior in hyperprolactinemic animals, the effects of bromocriptine (CB-154) administration on plasma hormone levels and mating behavior were examined in pituitary-grafted and control rats. Bromocriptine treatment (1 mg/day for 14 days) led to increases in sexual activity in both the sham-operated and grafted animals. In the grafted animals, plasma PRL was reduced and plasma LH significantly increased in the CB-154-treated animals when compared to oil-treated controls. In sham-operated animals, CB-154 produced no significant changes in plasma LH or FSH despite the suppressed PRL levels. These results indicate that (1) hyperPRL induced by pituitary grafts can cause deficits in mating behavior in male rats despite previous sexual experience, and (2) while CB-154 may be acting through other mechanisms to stimulate copulatory behavior, the reduction of chronically elevated PRL levels due to CB-154 treatment is responsible for reversal of the suppressive effects of hyperPRL on LH secretion.  相似文献

Recent evidence has indicated an association between the rewarding effects of ethanol intake and endogenous opioid activity. The present studies examine the presence of differences in opioid peptide mRNA content and mu and kappa opioid receptor densities, between ethanol naive AA and ANA rats bred selectively for their high and low alcohol consumption, respectively. In situ hybridization was used to compare the content of proopiomelanocortin, proenkephalin and prodynorphin mRNA in distinct brain regions known to be involved in the reinforcing properties of addictive drugs, between rats from each line. Results indicated that AA rats had a significantly greater content of proopiomelanocortin mRNA in the arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus, of proenkephalin mRNA in the prefrontal cortex and of prodynorphin mRNA in the mediodorsal nucleus of the thalamus (p < or = .05). Receptor autoradiography was performed using 3H-labeled ligands specific for mu and kappa opioid receptors. AA rats were found to have a greater density of mu opioid receptors in the shell region of the nucleus accumbens and prefrontal cortex, but a lower density of kappa opioid receptors in the ventromedial hypothalamus, compared to ANA rats. The present data demonstrate the presence of inherited differences in the activity of distinct components of the endogenous opioid system in some brain regions associated with the processes of reward and reinforcement; and as such, may play a role in determining differences in ethanol drinking between AA and ANA rats.  相似文献

Plasma levels of corticosterone (C) and testosterone (T) increase after sexual activity in males of several species. However, the physiological significance of these increases has not been elucidated. In the present study, hormonal response to different conditions linked to sexual activity was assessed. In the first experiment, plasma levels of C and T were assessed both in sexually experienced and naive male rats after the following conditions: (A) control group, without sexual stimulation; (B) males exposed to ovariectomized females; (C) males exposed to intact, non-receptive females; (D) males exposed to receptive females with the vagina obstructed, to avoid intromission; (E) males exposed to receptive females: but separated by a grid that prevents physical contact; (F) males exposed to receptive females during 30 min. In a second experiment, experienced male rats were allowed to repeatedly copulate until reaching the criteria for sexual exhaustion, and 24 h later, they were allowed to copulate. Once sexually related conditions ended, males were killed and their blood was obtained. C and T plasma levels were assessed by HPLC with ultraviolet (UV) detection. Results indicate that T did not increase significantly in naive male in any sexual condition, while in the experienced males, significant increases were observed with the mere presence of a receptive female and also after ejaculation. These increases were significantly larger in experienced males. On the other hand, C also increased in all sexual conditions, both in experienced and naive rats; however, the increase observed was larger in experienced males. Regarding sexual satiety, both C and T increased after copulating ad libitum to satiety. T increased almost three-fold compared to control, while C increased two-fold. No significant changes were observed in either one of the steroids 24 h after sexual exhaustion, even though males remained with a receptive female during an hour. These results show that sexual experience has an important influence on the hormonal response to sexual activity. C rises could be directly related to sexual arousal involved in the different sexual conditions, while T rises seem to have a direct relationship with both the motivation and execution aspects of masculine sexual behavior.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine whether, in comparison with naive students, experienced students who have completed an elementary physiology course 1) have a greater knowledge level of physiology and 2) perform better in an upper division physiology course. The educational setting for this study was the cardiovascular block of an advanced undergraduate level course entitled Principles of Human Physiology (PGY 412). The study employed students who had completed elementary physiology (PGY 206) at the University of Kentucky (group 1), students who had completed elementary physiology in another academic program (group 2), and naive students with no prior physiology experience (group 3). A cardiovascular pretest was presented during the opening session of the cardiovascular block in PGY 412. Respective scores for the three groups were 29.4%, 31.7%, and 24.1%, and there were no significant between-group differences. Respective scores on the same pretest items given as a posttest at the end of the cardiovascular block were 90.4%, 91.4%, and 90.4%, and, again, there were no significant between-group differences. Respective scores on other cardiovascular test items given at the end of the block were 78.9%, 78.7%, and 81.1%. Interestingly, the highest score here was achieved by the naive students (group 3), but, once again, between-group differences were not significant. In summary, on the basis of pretest/posttest examination of cardiovascular physiology between naive and experienced students, the results of this study indicate 1) that the common assumption that students entering advanced level physiology courses have a significant retention of knowledge from elementary physiology is not valid and 2) that completion of an elementary physiology course does not offer an advantage in learning advanced material.  相似文献

The host microhabitat location behavior of females of the generalist parasitoid Campoletis sonorensis (Cameron) (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae) was studied in a wind tunnel. Visual cues associated with the host plant cotton, Gossypium hirsutum L., were important and significantly more parasitoids completed flights to a damaged 4-leaf cotton plant bearing a Heliothis virescens (F.) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) larva and frass than to a similarly damaged single leaf with frass and a larva. This difference in completed flights was not due to differences in amounts of volatiles released by the two stimuli. Both naive and experienced parasitoids responded differently to an undamaged cotton leaf, a mechanially damaged leaf, a naturally damaged leaf with the host removed and a naturally damaged leaf with a host larva. Parasitoids completed significantly fewer flights to the undamaged sources of volatiles than to damaged sources of volatiles. Experienced females responded strongly to all types of damage. The number of flights completed by naive females to the three types of damage differed but not significantly and was less than the number completed by experienced females. Components of the preflight experience were varied to determine which factors were responsible for the higher response of experienced females to the host/plant complex. Oviposition was the most important component of this experience. Contact with host frass or plant damage followed by oviposition did not increase the response over that exhibited by females allowed oviposition only. When frass or damaged plant material were contacted without subsequent oviposition, females completed fewer flights than naive females.  相似文献

Abstract. 1. The influence of experience on egg maturation, parasitism rate, and behaviour during host searching was investigated for Lariophagus distinguendus (Först.) (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae) parasitizing larvae of the granary weevil Sitophilus granarius (L.) in grains of wheat Triticum aestivum L.
2. Dissection of female parasitoids and parasitism bioassays at high host density revealed that experience with hosts (e.g. by oviposition or by host feeding) is not required either for triggering oogenesis or for oviposition.
3. In parasitism experiments at low host density, when single host-infested grains were offered within a bulk of healthy grains, host finding and parasitism rate were increased by experience.
4. Behavioural observations revealed that searching time required for finding an infested grain was shorter for experienced parasitoids than for naive parasitoids, because travel time from grain to grain is shorter for experienced parasitoids, and because experienced parasitoids spend less time than naive parasitoids on non-infested grains.
5. In conclusion, experience due to host exposure increases parasitism and thereby the fitness of the parasitoids. It is discussed that this increase is more likely due to learning than to different egg load dynamics of experienced parasitoids.  相似文献

This experiment was designed to determine whether the reflexive LH pulses induced in male mice by exposure to a female are dependent upon the presence of the testes. B6D2F1 males were studied because, unlike most males, these hybrids remain sexually active indefinitely after castration, demonstrating that they still recognize females and are sexually arousable. We reasoned that if LH reflexes occur independently of the testes, then exposing castrated B6D2F1 males to a female should elicit a pulse. We observed female-induced pulses in 67% of intact, naive males and 80% of intact, sexually experienced males, but they were absent in castrated, sexually experienced males. Spontaneous pulses were too frequent in castrated, naive males to distinguish potential LH reflexes. Thus, the induction of LH reflexes depends upon the presence of the testes in these hybrid males. Secondarily we found more frequent spontaneous pulses in sexually naive than in experienced mice regardless of their gonadal status. These unexpected results imply that long-term mating activity slows the pace of spontaneous LH pulses in these hybrids. Considered together, the differential effects of the testes and sexual experience on both types of LH pulses suggest that two distinct pulse-generating mechanisms exist in male mice.  相似文献

Maturation of specific behavioral reactions were studied in 13-24-day-old rats born by females with prior maternal experience (group A) and maternally naive females (group B). The rats of group B showed later eyes opening and earlier maturation of grooming and manipulation than the group A rats. The development of behavioral reactions was found to be related with eye opening in the rats of group A and maturation of manipulation in group B rats. The results suggest that the maternal influence is a significant environmental factor, which affects the early postnatal development of rat pups.  相似文献

Recent studies have demonstrated that physiological doses of progesterone may facilitate the androgen-dependent display of male sexual behavior in laboratory rats and three species of lizard. We used mice with a targeted disruption of the progesterone receptor to investigate whether such interactions exist in male mice and whether they may be modified by sexual experience. We found that naive intact male progesterone receptor knockout (PRKO) mice exhibit reduced mount frequencies compared to wild-type (WT) mice. Also unlike WT mice, sexually experienced PRKO males show profound losses in many measures of sexual behavior following castration. In a second experiment, we tested whether male mice heterozygous for a null mutation at the progesterone receptor locus were responsive to testosterone and progesterone treatment. We found that heterozygous males showed a reduced response to testosterone. The data are consistent with experiments indicating that the progesterone receptor is able to facilitate male-typical sex behaviors in other species and suggest novel mechanisms underlying the interaction of androgens and experience.  相似文献

Concentrations of dopamine, serotonin, and some of their metabolites were analyzed by means of HPLC in brain samples obtained from rats operantly conditioned to turn in circles to obtain water reinforcement. In experiment 1 using Wistar rats, no differences in the levels of transmitters or metabolites were detected between brain samples (frontal cortex, ventral striatum, dorsal striatum, septum, amygdala, substantia nigra) from the hemispheres located ipsi- and contralateral to the direction of turning. A higher dopamine metabolism (indicated by higher metabolite/transmitter ratios) in ventral striatum, dorsal striatum, and amygdala was found after 15 min than after 5 min of turning in both hemispheres. A higher dopamine metabolism was found in water-deprived rats compared to nondeprived rats independently of whether or not deprived rats were trained to turn for water reinforcement. In two additional experiments, no differences in dopamine metabolism were found between the ipsi- and contralateral striatum of Wistar rats after 25 min and Sprague-Dawley rats after 10 min of operantly conditioned turning. The present results confirm that dopamine metabolism can change with different behavioral or physiological states; they do not support the hypothesis that conditioned turning is correlated with asymmetrical changes in the metabolism of dopamine or serotonin in the brain.  相似文献

The effect of adult experience on microhabitat location behavior of the generalist parasitoid Campoletis sonorensis (Cameron)was examined in a wind tunnel bioassay. Responses were tested to the odors of two host plants (cotton and sesame) of Heliothis virescens (F.) or a nonhost plant (potato), either damaged and infested with host larvae and host products (host/plant complex) or intact, clean and uninfested. Parasitoid females remained naive or were allowed one oviposition experience on either of the plants, 1 min, 2 h, or 24 h prior their introduction into the wind tunnel. In a no-choice test, parasitoids experienced 1 min prior to bioassay completed significantly more flights to sesame and potato host/plant complexes than did naive parasitoids. However, 24 h after experience, only females experienced on potato completed more flights to the host/ plant complex than did naive females. Parasitoids experienced 1 min prior to flight to undamaged plants showed a slight increase in flight response (significant only for potato) but, after 24 h, completed only as many flights as naive parasitoids. In a dual-choice situation, parasitoids did not show a preference for either of the two host plants but did prefer a host to a nonhost plant. This innate plant preference was not changed by a single oviposition experience. The potential significance of these results to the microhabitat location behavior of C. sonorensisin the field is discussed.  相似文献

Wheel running reinforces the behavior that generates it and produces a preference for the context that follows it. The goal of the present study was to demonstrate both of these effects in the same animals. Twelve male Wistar rats were first exposed to a fixed-interval 30 s schedule of wheel-running reinforcement. The operant was lever-pressing and the reinforcer was the opportunity to run for 45 s. Following this phase, the method of place conditioning was used to test for a rewarding aftereffect following operant sessions. On alternating days, half the rats responded for wheel-running reinforcement while the other half remained in their home cage. Upon completion of the wheel-running reinforcement sessions, rats that ran and rats that remained in their home cages were placed into a chamber of a conditioned place preference (CPP) apparatus for 30 min. Each animal received six pairings of a distinctive context with wheel running and six pairings of a different context with their home cage. On the test day, animals were free to move between the chambers for 10 min. Results showed a conditioned place preference for the context associated with wheel running; however, time spent in the context associated with running was not related to wheel-running rate, lever-pressing rate, or post-reinforcement pause duration.  相似文献
