Although the importance of bacterial activities in oil reservoirs was recognized a long time ago, our knowledge of the nature and diversity of bacteria growing in these ecosystems is still poor, and their metabolic activities in situ largely ignored. This paper reviews our current knowledge about these bacteria and emphasises the importance of the petrochemical and geochemical characteristics in understanding their presence in such environments.  相似文献

Abstract

A picture of the studies carried out in the past 20 years on phytoplankton from the 36 reservoirs and one natural lake in Sardinia is presented. Processing of the 1994 seasonal data shows that the dominant or subdominant algal species in the 36 reservoirs in terms of density belong to only 8 genera, with species of the genus Microcystis in 17 reservoirs, Chlorella in 15, Cyclotella in 12, Ankistrodesmus and Anabaena in 9, Aphanizomenon in 8, Melosira in 7 and Oocystis in 6. Processing of the data from the 16 reservoirs in which annual or plurennial surveys were carried out, shows that on the basis of the biomass the most likely floristic pattern is Microcystis aeruginosa Kg., Microcystis flos-aquae (Wittr.) Kichn., Anabaena flos-aquae (Lyngb.) Bréb., Anabaena planctonica Brunnth., Aphanizomenon flos-aquae (L.) Ralfs., Melosira granulata (E.) Ralfs and Closterium aciculare T. West. In general terms this means that most of these reservoirs are eutrophic. In fact the species are capable of describing an increasing trophic gradient in agreement with the one described using other variables. Specific cases of reservoirs where plurennial surveys have been carried out are considered. From these surveys a great quali-quantitative variability of the phytoplankton is inferred.  相似文献

Eutrophication of reservoirs in South Korea   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Natural lakes in South Korea are limited in number and generally quite small. As a result, reservoirs and regulated rivers are the major sources of freshwater for society. About 18 000 reservoirs have been constructed in South Korea, and they are particularly important for domestic water supply. Thirteen of the major reservoirs were surveyed in this general assessment of the trophic state of South Korean reservoirs. Ten reservoirs were from the upper or middle reaches of rivers (including eight of the ten largest reservoirs in Korea), and three were estuarine reservoirs. Reservoirs in the mountainous district of South Korea were usually mesotrophic, whereas the estuarine reservoirs were highly eutrophic. Because total nitrogen to total phosphorus ratios were always between 18 and 163, phosphorus was probably more limiting than nitrogen for algal growth. However, hydraulic residence time and light penetration may be limiting in the nutrient-enriched downstream reservoirs. In winter, algal density was lowest in deep reservoirs, perhaps due to deep mixing. During the same season, algal density was high in shallow reservoirs, perhaps due to a favorable hydraulic residence time. Factors contributing to the observed eutrophication patterns, including nutrient runoff from agriculture, animal farms, fish aquaculture, and urban areas, are discussed. According to the national budget of phosphorus, fertilizer and livestock manure are major source of phosphorus, contributing 133 400 and 73 700 tons of phosphorus per year, respectively, while human excretion discharges 30 000 tons P year−1. Reduction of the application of fertilizer, proper treatment of manure, and conservation of topsoil may be the most practical and effective measures to prevent further lake eutrophication. Oligochaeta from profundal zones of Spanish reservoirs   总被引:3,自引:3,他引:0  
The profundal benthic fauna of 63 Spanish reservoirs was studied during 1972–75. Samples were taken in the deepest part of each reservoir with a modified Van Veen grab. The fauna was dominated by tubificid worms and chironomids. Sixteen species of Oligochaeta were found, two of them new for the Spanish fauna (Potamothrix heuscheri and Haber pyrenaicus). This was the first time H. pyrenaicus was found since the species was described in 1974 from the Pyrenees. Four species were frequent in the reservoirs (Limnodrilus hoffmeisteri, Tubifex tubifex, L. claparedeianus and Dero digitata) but only the first two were abundant as mature individuals. Another interesting fact is the high abundance of immature animals in all samples, accounting for more than 80% of the total individuals examined. The geographical distribution of all species in Spain and their relationship with the typology of Spanish reservoirs are discussed. There seems to be a correlation between the throphic status of the reservoirs and the relative proportion of L. hoffmeisteri as compared to T. tubifex, the number of individuals of the first species increasing with water eutrophication.  相似文献

Use of external reservoirs in tissue expansion   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5  
The use of tissue expanders having external reservoirs is presented. Twenty-four patients had 36 tissue expanders placed in the scalp, face, neck, upper limbs, chest, and lower limbs. All patients, apart from one, were taken to completion. This patient had erosion of the skin over expander and was only partially completed after removal of the expander. Apart from one instance of deflation at the end of the expansion where the skin could still be used, there were no other complications, in particular, no infections. The advantages of this technique are reduced operating time, ease of injection into the reservoir, lack of pain for the patient, early detection of reservoir or filling tube junction leakage, and lack of complications associated with the reservoir. This procedure is not recommended on at least theoretical grounds for breast expansion, where a permanent implant is to be inserted.  相似文献

Nosocomial infections are a major concern to both clinicians and health care seekers. Investigations have suggested that laptops & mobile phones may contribute to cross-contamination and can serve as vehicles for infection transmission. Therefore, it is of interest to document the data on hidden reservoirs such as mobile phones and laptops of pathogens in dental settings at the Hazaribag College of dental sciences and Hospital, Jharkhand. The samples were collected from 25 laptops and 25 mobile phones from dentists working in a dental college in Hazaribag city. The samples were collected aseptically using sterile cotton swabs dipped in sterile saline by rotating the swabs on the keyboard surfaces of laptops and mobile phones, inoculated into Brain Heart Infusion broth, vortexed for 1 minute in Fischer Vortex Genie 2 on highest setting & streaked immediately on 5% sheep blood agar plates and were incubated at 37°C for 24 hours aerobically. The isolates were identified based on the colony morphology, colony characteristics and biochemical reactions. The bacterial species isolated were Staphylococcus aureus, Coagulase negative Staphylococcus, Bacillus species, Enterococci, Micrococci, and Pseudomonas etc. Predominant species isolated was Staphylococcus aureus and least was Micrococci. Higher percentage of organisms was found at the Department of Periodontics, Endodontics and least was found in Department of Public Health Dentistry. The percentage and type of organism isolated from keyboards of laptops and mobile phones were similar. Thus, laptops and mobile phones act as vehicles for transfer of potential pathogens associated with dental hospitals. Disinfecting the hands prior to examination of patients and disinfection of laptops and mobiles with alcohol wipes should be done to prevent nosocomial infections.  相似文献
