The Chinese crested dog is devoid of hair except for the crown of the head, lower part of the limbs and tail. The breed is produced by a dominant gene for hypotrichosis (Hr) in combination with the gene for long hair (l). The homozygote HrHr is a prenatal lethal, hence the Chinese crested dog is an obligate heterozygote. The long haired segregants, ++ ll, are known as powderpuffs.  相似文献

A litter of five salukis was presented in which all of the individuals were intersexes or hermaphrodites. Anatomical abnormalities were observed. The external genitalia resembled a combination of penile sheath and vulva positioned approximately midway between the anus and umbilicus. At birth structures resembling scrotal sacs were present on either side of the genital structure. These were not apparent in older animals. Internal anatomy consisted of two gonads in a position expected for ovaries, oviducts, uterus and cord-like structures lateral to the uterus which extended from gonad to inside of the "scrotal sacs." Histologically, the gonads appeared to be ovaries which contained many dysgenic follicles. Cause of the condition is unknown.  相似文献

Sequential necropsies and histologic evaluations of young adult beagle dogs were performed after irradiation of the thorax. Total doses to the heart were 36, 44, or 52 Gy given in 4-Gy fractions in 4 weeks. One month after irradiation there was little histologic evidence of damage visible by light microscopy. However, ventricular and septal weights were increased, probably due to edema. At 3 months damage to endothelial and mesothelial cells was evident. By 12 months the myocardium was thinned and focal degeneration and loss of muscle cells and Purkinje fibers were observed. There was extensive subendocardial and epicardial fibrosis as well as intimal proliferation in coronary arteries. Morphometric analyses were performed on the myocardium, pericardium, atria, and aorta. There was a slight increase in perivascular connective tissue in the myocardium. The pericardium was increased in thickness and the ratio of smooth muscle to elastin was decreased in the aorta. Severe fibrosis occurred only in the right atrium. At 1 year there was no clinical evidence of heart failure; however, evidence of myocardial damage was present histologically and functionally. Additional stress and continued aging are likely to enhance the damage and lead to serious complications. The interactions of irradiated lung and heart require further investigation.  相似文献

Granulocytes isolated by counterflow centrifugation elutriation (CCE) from leukapheresed dog blood, frozen in liquid nitrogen at ?196 °C, were studied. The effects of long-term cryopreservation on cell recovery and in vitro function were detertmined. In seven separate experiments, an average of 1.7 × 109 granulocytes were obtained. The white cell differential count was 91% granulocytes and 9% mononuclear cells. There was less than 5% red cells presrent and no platelets. Granulocytes were placed in Hemoflex bags and mixed slowly with equal volumes of sterile ice-cold hyperosmolar cryoprotectant buffer to make a final composition of 5% dimethylsulfoxide (DMS), 6% hydroxyethyl starch (HES), and 4% bovine serum albumin (BSA), pH 7.1. Total volumes of 40 ml were frozen at a cooling rate of 4 °C per minute and stored for periods of 1, 34, 60, 90, and 132 weeks in liquid nitrogen at ?196 °C. Thawing was done at a rate of 190 ° per minute to 10 °C. The recovery of cells was 95%, 105%, 100%, 100%, and 88% respectively. Ethidium bromide exclusion, indicative of viable nuclei, was 91%, 81%, 94%, 89%, and 80% respectively. Virtually all thawed cells ingested opsonized Fluolite particles, but the number ingested was approximately one-half that of prefreeze values. Thawed cells also demonstrated superoxide anion synthesis at rates approximating those in unfrozen granulocytes. These results indicate that dog granulocytes obtained by leukapheresis may be preserved in liquid nitrogen at ?196 °C with high cellular recovery and at least 50% phagocytic function.  相似文献
