The earliest studies of intermittent exercise physiology notedthat moving intermittently (i.e., alternating brief movementswith brief pauses) could transform a heavy workload into a submaximalone that can be tolerated and sustained. The brief pauses thatcharacterize intermittent locomotion permit at least partialrecovery from prior activity. This research provided the foundationfor the development of interval training and more recently forthe re-evaluation of steady-state paradigms for comparativeanimal locomotion. In this paper I review key concepts underlyingthe performance of repeated activity. I provide examples fromhuman athletics and training and comparative animal locomotion.To explore the limits of intermittent exercise performance,I examine the performance limits for continuous exercise andthe rate and extent of the recovery of performance capacityfollowing activity. While it is evident that altering locomotorbehavior (i.e., moving intermittently) can alter the capacityof an animal to perform work, mathematical models of intermittentexercise could predict strategies (i.e., exercise intensity,exercise duration, and pause duration) that will increase performancelimits for intermittent activity.  相似文献

Biowaste from the food chain is of potential benefit to use in agriculture. Agriculture in general and organic farming in particular needs alternative plant nutrients. However, the quality concerning hygiene and soil contaminants must be assured. This recycling has to be regulated in a way that harmful effects on soil, vegetation, animals and man are prevented.The problems with heavy metals and organic contaminants have been focused on. Still, maximum threshold values are continuously discussed to avoid an increase of soil concentrations. The effect on the ecosystems of residues from use of medicines needs further attention. There is also a risk for a spread of antibiotic resistant micro-organisms in the environment and then to animals and man. Infectious diseases may be spread from biowaste and new routes of disease transmission between animals and humans can be created. Zoonotic diseases in this context play a central role. Pathogens recently introduced to a country may be further spread when biowaste is recycled. The very good health status of domestic animals in the Nordic countries may then quickly change. The quality of biowaste is of enormous importance if biowaste is to gain general acceptance for agricultural use, especially for organic production. A balance needs to be maintained between risk and advantage for its use.  相似文献

依据系统论的基本原理,人类疾病动物模型采用整体设计,统筹考虑模型与实验动物生物学特性方面的相似性、模型复制的重复性、可靠性、适用性、可控性、易行性和经济性等,以便模型复制的顺利开展。整体性原则应贯穿整个模型复制过程,使复制的模型具有科学性和实用性。模型复制要落实系统论的相关性原则,一个模型不是孤立的,动物的各系统、各器官、各分子之间是相互联系,人类和动物在生物学、解剖学、组织学、胚胎学、生理学、病理学等方面的相互联系,疾病的发生、发展是相互联系的,相关性原则为动物模型研究人类疾病提供了理论依据。动物模型在时间和空间上处于不断运动变化发展之中,在研究模型的过程中,要用动态的方法而不是静止的方法来研究动物模型,应根据疾病的特点,分成不同的阶段,结合动物的免疫功能、营养状况、疾病的发展、转归等采用不同的对策。模型的复制采用最优化原则,要求模型设计最优化,选用高质量的实验动物,减少动物使用数量,保护动物福利与伦理,最终实现模型评价体系的最优化。  相似文献

灵长类动物遗传、行为、认知、生理、生化和解剖结构等生物学特性更接近人类,具有其他实验动物无法替代的高级脑功能结构及神经活动的优势,是研究人类神经系统疾病理想的模式动物,研究的结果更容易推广应用到人类。常被用来建立神经退行性疾病、精神性疾病等疾病的动物模型,研究其发病机制、病程的发生发展及治疗药物等,为人类神经科学及相关医学研究做出了不可替代的贡献。本文综述了近年来国内外灵长类动物在人类神经系统疾病动物模型研究中的应用进展,分析了该领域目前存在的困难和问题,探讨了未来的一些研究方向,以期为神系统经疾病的深入研究提供思路。  相似文献

microRNA(miRNA)是一类基因调控分子,其成熟体长度大约为22个核苷酸,其在转录后水平通过碱基互补配对的方式特异性结合靶mRNA的3端非翻译区来发挥调控功能,造成靶mRNA的翻译抑制或降解。越来越多的研究表明miRNA具有十分重要的分子功能,几乎在所有的生命过程中均扮演着重要角色。因此,和miRNA有关的功能异常就可能和疾病的发生发展有密切关系。生物信息学旨在为解决生命科学问题提供信息学手段,目前已经有多种用于研究miRNA和人类疾病关系的生物信息学方法和网络资源,本文将综述这一主题的现状,并探讨将来的发展趋势。  相似文献

Dolichol in Human Brain: Regional and Developmental Aspects   总被引:1,自引:2,他引:1  
Distinct regional differences in dolichol content were defined in human brain from 15 to 76 years of age. Concerning the regional distribution of dolichol, levels were: higher in cortical gray matter than in subcortical white matter, highest among cortical regions in temporal gray matter, highest among all brain regions in thalamus, and lowest among all brain regions in lower brain stem and spinal cord. The developmental changes in the contents of dolichol were found to be different among brain regions. For example, among regions with the highest levels of dolichol, in thalamus there was a six to sevenfold increase, but in parietal gray matter, only a 2.5-fold increase. Regional and developmental changes in the proportions of the individual molecular species (isoprenologues) of dolichol were also observed. The findings indicate that the metabolism of dolichol is not uniform among regions of developing and aging human brain and may have implications for the role of dolichol in normal and diseased human brain.  相似文献
