Selection due to variation in the fecundity among matings of genotypes with respect to many loci each with two alleles is studied. The fitness of a mating depends only on the genotypic distinction between homozygote and heterozygote at each locus in the two individuals, and differences among loci are allowed. This symmetric fertility model is therefore a generalization of the multiple-locus symmetric viability model. The phenomena seen in the two-locus symmetric fertility model generalize—e.g., the possibility of joint stability of equilibria with linkage equilibrium and with linkage disequilibrium, and the existence of different types of totally polymorphic equilibria with the gametic proportions in linkage equilibrium. The central equilibrium with genotypic frequencies in Hardy-Weinberg proportions and gametic frequencies in Robbins proportions exists for all symmetric fertility models. For some symmetric fertility regimes additional equilibria exist with gametic frequencies in linkage equilibrium and with genotypic frequencies in Hardy-Weinberg proportions at all except one locus. These equilibria may exist in the dioecious symmetric viability model, and then they will be locally stable. For free recombination the stable equilibria show linkage equilibrium, but several of these with different numbers of polymorphic loci may be stable simultaneously.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a worst-case weighted approach to the multi-objective n-person non-zero sum game model where each player has more than one competing objective. Our “worst-case weighted multi-objective game” model supposes that each player has a set of weights to its objectives and wishes to minimize its maximum weighted sum objectives where the maximization is with respect to the set of weights. This new model gives rise to a new Pareto Nash equilibrium concept, which we call “robust-weighted Nash equilibrium”. We prove that the robust-weighted Nash equilibria are guaranteed to exist even when the weight sets are unbounded. For the worst-case weighted multi-objective game with the weight sets of players all given as polytope, we show that a robust-weighted Nash equilibrium can be obtained by solving a mathematical program with equilibrium constraints (MPEC). For an application, we illustrate the usefulness of the worst-case weighted multi-objective game to a supply chain risk management problem under demand uncertainty. By the comparison with the existed weighted approach, we show that our method is more robust and can be more efficiently used for the real-world applications.  相似文献

Under haploid selection, a multi-locus, diallelic, two-niche Levene (1953) model is studied. Viability coefficients with symmetrically opposing directional selection in each niche are assumed, and with a further simplification that the most and least favored haplotype in each niche shares no alleles in common, and that the selection coefficients monotonically increase or decrease with the number of alleles shared. This model always admits a fully polymorphic symmetric equilibrium, which may or may not be stable. We show that a stable symmetric equilibrium can become unstable via either a supercritical or subcritical pitchfork bifurcation. In the supercritical bifurcation, the symmetric equilibrium bifurcates to a pair of stable fully polymorphic asymmetric equilibria; in the subcritical bifurcation, the symmetric equilibrium bifurcates to a pair of unstable fully polymorphic asymmetric equilibria, which then connect to either another pair of stable fully polymorphic asymmetric equilibria through saddle-node bifurcations, or to a pair of monomorphic equilibria through transcritical bifurcations. As many as three fully polymorphic stable equilibria can coexist, and jump bifurcations can occur between these equilibria when model parameters are varied. In our Levene model, increasing recombination can act to either increase or decrease the genetic diversity of a population. By generating more hybrid offspring from the mating of purebreds, recombination can act to increase genetic diversity provided the symmetric equilibrium remains stable. But by destabilizing the symmetric equilibrium, recombination can ultimately act to decrease genetic diversity.  相似文献

The symmetric equilibria of the three-locus symmetric viability model are determined and their stability analyzed. For tight linkage there may be four stable equilibria, each characterized by having one pair of complementary chromosomes in high frequencies, with all others low. For looser linkage the only stable symmetric equilibrium is that with complete linkage equilibrium. For intermediate recombination values both types of equilibria may be stable. A new class of equilibria with all pairwise linkage disequilibria zero, but with third order linkage disequilibrium, has been discovered. It may be stable for tight linkage.  相似文献

Human α-Synuclein (αSyn) is a natively unfolded protein whose aggregation into amyloid fibrils is involved in the pathology of Parkinson disease. A full comprehension of the structure and dynamics of early intermediates leading to the aggregated states is an unsolved problem of essential importance to researchers attempting to decipher the molecular mechanisms of αSyn aggregation and formation of fibrils. Traditional bulk techniques used so far to solve this problem point to a direct correlation between αSyn''s unique conformational properties and its propensity to aggregate, but these techniques can only provide ensemble-averaged information for monomers and oligomers alike. They therefore cannot characterize the full complexity of the conformational equilibria that trigger the aggregation process. We applied atomic force microscopy–based single-molecule mechanical unfolding methodology to study the conformational equilibrium of human wild-type and mutant αSyn. The conformational heterogeneity of monomeric αSyn was characterized at the single-molecule level. Three main classes of conformations, including disordered and “β-like” structures, were directly observed and quantified without any interference from oligomeric soluble forms. The relative abundance of the “β-like” structures significantly increased in different conditions promoting the aggregation of αSyn: the presence of Cu2+, the pathogenic A30P mutation, and high ionic strength. This methodology can explore the full conformational space of a protein at the single-molecule level, detecting even poorly populated conformers and measuring their distribution in a variety of biologically important conditions. To the best of our knowledge, we present for the first time evidence of a conformational equilibrium that controls the population of a specific class of monomeric αSyn conformers, positively correlated with conditions known to promote the formation of aggregates. A new tool is thus made available to test directly the influence of mutations and pharmacological strategies on the conformational equilibrium of monomeric αSyn.  相似文献

Many online marketplaces enjoy great success. Buyers and sellers in successful markets carry out cooperative transactions even if they do not know each other in advance and a moral hazard exists. An indispensable component that enables cooperation in such social dilemma situations is the reputation system. Under the reputation system, a buyer can avoid transacting with a seller with a bad reputation. A transaction in online marketplaces is better modeled by the trust game than other social dilemma games, including the donation game and the prisoner's dilemma. In addition, most individuals participate mostly as buyers or sellers; each individual does not play the two roles with equal probability. Although the reputation mechanism is known to be able to remove the moral hazard in games with asymmetric roles, competition between different strategies and population dynamics of such a game are not sufficiently understood. On the other hand, existing models of reputation-based cooperation, also known as indirect reciprocity, are based on the symmetric donation game. We analyze the trust game with two fixed roles, where trustees (i.e., sellers) but not investors (i.e., buyers) possess reputation scores. We study the equilibria and the replicator dynamics of the game. We show that the reputation mechanism enables cooperation between unacquainted buyers and sellers under fairly generous conditions, even when such a cooperative equilibrium coexists with an asocial equilibrium in which buyers do not buy and sellers cheat. In addition, we show that not many buyers may care about the seller's reputation under cooperative equilibrium. Buyers' trusting behavior and sellers' reputation-driven cooperative behavior coevolve to alleviate the social dilemma.  相似文献

After light UV irradiation (5,000 to 10,000 ergs/mm2) “complete” and “defective” simian virus 40 (SV40) showed an enhancement of oncogenic transformation capacity in Syrian hamster kidney cells in vitro up to 180 and 270% of the controls, respectively. Simultaneously with the enhancement of transformation, an increase in T-antigen induction was observed in CV-1 cells infected with light UV-irradiated SV40; infectivity, however, was correspondingly reduced by 1 log10. After strong UV irradiation (10,000 to 80,000 ergs/mm2) of “complete” and “defective” SV40, transformation capacity in vitro proved to be the most resistant viral function. It was only slightly reduced in comparison with a 4 to 5 log10 reduction of infectivity. T-antigen induction of SV40 was also equally resistant to strong UV irradiation. We found no evidence of “multiplicity reactivation” involved in the high resistance of transformation capacity of SV40 after UV irradiation. Syrian hamster kidney cells transformed in vitro by UV-irradiated SV40 contained the SV40-specific T-antigen and showed the same morphology and growth characteristics as cells transformed by non-irradiated “complete” or “defective” SV40. They induced malignant tumors after subcutaneous inoculation into Syrian hamsters.  相似文献

Jumping on trampolines is a popular backyard recreation. In some trampoline games (e.g., “seat drop war”), when two people land on the trampoline with only a small time-lag, one person bounces much higher than the other, as if energy has been transferred from one to the other. First, we illustrate this energy-transfer in a table-top demonstration, consisting of two balls dropped onto a mini-trampoline, landing almost simultaneously, sometimes resulting in one ball bouncing much higher than the other. Next, using a simple mathematical model of two masses bouncing passively on a massless trampoline with no dissipation, we show that with specific landing conditions, it is possible to transfer all the kinetic energy of one mass to the other through the trampoline – in a single bounce. For human-like parameters, starting with equal energy, the energy transfer is maximal when one person lands approximately when the other is at the bottom of her bounce. The energy transfer persists even for very stiff surfaces. The energy-conservative mathematical model exhibits complex non-periodic long-term motions. To complement this passive bouncing model, we also performed a game-theoretic analysis, appropriate when both players are acting strategically to steal the other player''s energy. We consider a zero-sum game in which each player''s goal is to gain the other player''s kinetic energy during a single bounce, by extending her leg during flight. For high initial energy and a symmetric situation, the best strategy for both subjects (minimax strategy and Nash equilibrium) is to use the shortest available leg length and not extend their legs. On the other hand, an asymmetry in initial heights allows the player with more energy to gain even more energy in the next bounce. Thus synchronous bouncing unstable is unstable both for passive bouncing and when leg lengths are controlled as in game-theoretic equilibria.  相似文献

This paper analyzes the elastic equilibrium conformations of duplex DNA constrained by the constancy of its molecular linking number, Lk. The DNA is regarded as having the mechanical properties of a homogeneous, linearly elastic substance with symmetric cross section. Integral representations of the writhing number Wr and of Lk are developed, in terms of which the equilibria are given as solutions to an isoperimetric problem. It is shown that the Euler angles defining equilibrium conformations must obey equations identical to those governing unconstrained equilibria. A scaling law is developed stating that molecules supercoiled the same amount ΔLk will have geometrically similar elastic equilibria regardless of their length. Thus, comparisons among molecules of properties related to their large-scale tertiary structure should be referred to differences in ΔLk rather than to their superhelix densities. Specific conditions on the elastic equilibrium conformations are developed that are necessary for ring closure. The equilibrium superhelical conformations accessible to closed-ring molecules are shown to approximate toroidal helices. Questions relating to the stability and nonuniqueness of equilibria are treated briefly. A comparison is made between these toroidal conformations and interwound configurations, which are shown to be stable, although they are not equilibria in the present sense. It is suggested that entropic factors are responsible for favouring the toroidal conformation in solution.  相似文献

We present a novel formulation for biochemical reaction networks in the context of protein signal transduction. The model consists of input-output transfer functions, which are derived from differential equations, using stable equilibria. We select a set of “source” species, which are interpreted as input signals. Signals are transmitted to all other species in the system (the “target” species) with a specific delay and with a specific transmission strength. The delay is computed as the maximal reaction time until a stable equilibrium for the target species is reached, in the context of all other reactions in the system. The transmission strength is the concentration change of the target species. The computed input-output transfer functions can be stored in a matrix, fitted with parameters, and even recalled to build dynamical models on the basis of state changes. By separating the temporal and the magnitudinal domain we can greatly simplify the computational model, circumventing typical problems of complex dynamical systems. The transfer function transformation of biochemical reaction systems can be applied to mass-action kinetic models of signal transduction. The paper shows that this approach yields significant novel insights while remaining a fully testable and executable dynamical model for signal transduction. In particular we can deconstruct the complex system into local transfer functions between individual species. As an example, we examine modularity and signal integration using a published model of striatal neural plasticity. The modularizations that emerge correspond to a known biological distinction between calcium-dependent and cAMP-dependent pathways. Remarkably, we found that overall interconnectedness depends on the magnitude of inputs, with higher connectivity at low input concentrations and significant modularization at moderate to high input concentrations. This general result, which directly follows from the properties of individual transfer functions, contradicts notions of ubiquitous complexity by showing input-dependent signal transmission inactivation.  相似文献

Various social contexts can be depicted as games of strategic interactions on networks, where an individual’s welfare depends on both her and her partners’ actions. Whereas much attention has been devoted to Bayes-Nash equilibria in such games, here we look at strategic interactions from an evolutionary perspective. To this end, we present the results of a numerical simulations program for these games, which allows us to find out whether Nash equilibria are accessible by adaptation of player strategies, and in general to identify the attractors of the evolution. Simulations allow us to go beyond a global characterization of the cooperativeness at equilibrium and probe into individual behavior. We find that when players imitate each other, evolution does not reach Nash equilibria and, worse, leads to very unfavorable states in terms of welfare. On the contrary, when players update their behavior rationally, they self-organize into a rich variety of Nash equilibria, where individual behavior and payoffs are shaped by the nature of the game, the social network’s structure and the players’ position within the network. Our results allow to assess the validity of mean-field approaches we use to describe the dynamics of these games. Interestingly, our dynamically-found equilibria generally do not coincide with (but show qualitatively the same features of) those resulting from theoretical predictions in the context of one-shot games under incomplete information.  相似文献

Selection due to differential viability is studied in an n-locus two-allele model using a set indexation that allows the simplicity of the one-locus two-allele model to be carried to multi-locus models. The existence condition is analyzed for polymorphic equilibria with linkage equilibrium: Robbins' equilibria. The local stability condition is given for the Robbins' equilibria on the boundaries in the generalized non-epistatic selection regimes of Karlin and Liberman (1979). These generalized non-epistatic regimes include the additive selection model, the multiplicative selection model and the multiplicative interaction model, and their symmetric versions cover all the symmetric viability models.Research supported by grant no. 11-7805 from the Danish Natural Science Research Council, by NIH grant GM 28016, by a fellowship from the Research Foundation of Aarhus University, and by a visiting fellowship from the University of New England, N.S.W.  相似文献

A sexually-transmitted disease model for two strains of pathogen in a one-sex, heterogeneously-mixing population has been studied completely by Jiang and Chai in (J Math Biol 56:373-390, 2008). In this paper, we give a analysis for a SIS STD with two competing strains, where populations are divided into three differential groups based on their susceptibility to two distinct pathogenic strains. We investigate the existence and stability of the boundary equilibria that characterizes competitive exclusion of the two competing strains; we also investigate the existence and stability of the positive coexistence equilibrium, which characterizes the possibility of coexistence of the two strains. We obtain sufficient and necessary conditions for the existence and global stability about these equilibria under some assumptions. We verify that there is a strong connection between the stability of the boundary equilibria and the existence of the coexistence equilibrium, that is, there exists a unique coexistence equilibrium if and only if the boundary equilibria both exist and have the same stability, the coexistence equilibrium is globally stable or unstable if and only if the two boundary equilibria are both unstable or both stable.  相似文献

We define chromosomal replication complexity (CRC) as the ratio of the copy number of the most replicated regions to that of unreplicated regions on the same chromosome. Although a typical CRC of eukaryotic or bacterial chromosomes is 2, rapidly growing Escherichia coli cells induce an extra round of replication in their chromosomes (CRC = 4). There are also E. coli mutants with stable CRC∼6. We have investigated the limits and consequences of elevated CRC in E. coli and found three limits: the “natural” CRC limit of ∼8 (cells divide more slowly); the “functional” CRC limit of ∼22 (cells divide extremely slowly); and the “tolerance” CRC limit of ∼64 (cells stop dividing). While the natural limit is likely maintained by the eclipse system spacing replication initiations, the functional limit might reflect the capacity of the chromosome segregation system, rather than dedicated mechanisms, and the tolerance limit may result from titration of limiting replication factors. Whereas recombinational repair is beneficial for cells at the natural and functional CRC limits, we show that it becomes detrimental at the tolerance CRC limit, suggesting recombinational misrepair during the runaway overreplication and giving a rationale for avoidance of the latter.  相似文献

The handicap principle has come under significant challenge both from empirical studies and from theoretical work. As a result, a number of alternative explanations for honest signaling have been proposed. This paper compares the evolutionary plausibility of one such alternative, the “hybrid equilibrium,” to the handicap principle. We utilize computer simulations to compare these two theories as they are instantiated in Maynard Smith’s Sir Philip Sidney game. We conclude that, when both types of communication are possible, evolution is unlikely to lead to handicap signaling and is far more likely to result in the partially honest signaling predicted by hybrid equilibrium theory.  相似文献

On some models of fertility selection   总被引:4,自引:3,他引:1
Additive, multiplicative and symmetric models of fertility controlled by one diallelic gene are studied. For the completely symmetric fertility system a complete equilibrium and local stability analysis is possible. Contrary to previous conjectures, asymmetric equilibria can be stable. Conditions are derived under which a multiplicative model can be regarded as equivalent to a symmetric fertility system.  相似文献

We propose a way to introduce in microscopic pedestrian models a “social norm” in collision avoiding and overtaking, i.e. the tendency, shared by pedestrians belonging to the same culture, to avoid collisions and perform overtaking in a preferred direction. The “social norm” is implemented, regardless of the specific collision avoiding model, as a rotation in the perceived velocity vector of the opponent at the moment of computation of the collision avoiding strategy, and justified as an expectation that the opponent will follow the same “social norm” (for example a tendency to avoid on the left and overtake on the right, as proposed in this work for Japanese pedestrians). By comparing with real world data, we show that the introduction of this norm allows for a better reproduction of macroscopic pedestrian density and velocity patterns.  相似文献

Social influence has been shown to create significant unpredictability in cultural markets, providing one potential explanation why experts routinely fail at predicting commercial success of cultural products. As a result, social influence is often presented in a negative light. Here, we show the benefits of social influence for cultural markets. We present a policy that uses product quality, appeal, position bias and social influence to maximize expected profits in the market. Our computational experiments show that our profit-maximizing policy leverages social influence to produce significant performance benefits for the market, while our theoretical analysis proves that our policy outperforms in expectation any policy not displaying social signals. Our results contrast with earlier work which focused on showing the unpredictability and inequalities created by social influence. Not only do we show for the first time that, under our policy, dynamically showing consumers positive social signals increases the expected profit of the seller in cultural markets. We also show that, in reasonable settings, our profit-maximizing policy does not introduce significant unpredictability and identifies “blockbusters”. Overall, these results shed new light on the nature of social influence and how it can be leveraged for the benefits of the market.  相似文献

Invariant local surface equilibrium equations are derived that interrelate the absolute value of the magnetic field B, the absolute value of the gradient of the magnetic flux |?Φ|, the local shear s, and the plasma pressure on nested equilibrium magnetic surfaces in currentless configurations. Examples of applying these equations to analysis of symmetric and isodynamic equilibria are considered.  相似文献

Two modes of assortative mating, partial selfing and assorting by phenotypic classes, are studied in a subdivided population. Differential viability is allowed and the selection intensities and assorting tendencies are permitted to vary among the habitats. There exists a symmetric polymorphism; we delimit its level of heterozygosity and stability nature (dependent on the selection intensities and assorting propensities). This complements studies of the fixation states and thereby provides further insight into the global equilibrium structure in subdivided populations. Circumstances are given where the fixation states and symmetric polymorphism comprise the global equilibrium structure. Examples are also given where migration engenders stable polymorphic equilibria and stable polymorphic equilibrium cycles which are absent in single demes without migration.  相似文献
