The aim of the study was clinical evaluation of a new marker of pituitary tumours--the alpha subunit of glycoprotein hormones. The studies were performed in 152 patients with manifestations of intersellar tumours; an elevated serum alpha subunit concentration was found in 49 of these cases. The determinations of alpha subunit were performed by double antibody radioimmunoassay. Iodination of alpha subunit was made by chloramine T technique with subsequent purification of Ultrogel AcA54 column. The remaining pituitary hormones were also determined by radioimmunoassay. The incidence of pituitary tumours of alphoma type was 30 percent. Tumours occurred frequently in association with an increased serum growth hormone and manifestations of acromegaly, less frequently with hyperprolactinemia and signs of prolactinoma. Following neurosurgery of 60Co pituitary irradiation hypopituitarism was of high occurrence. 相似文献

Aims: To investigate the effect of Lactobacillus gasseri BNR17 isolated from human breast milk on blood glucose and body weight in type 2 diabetic animals.
Methods and results: db/db mice were divided into one control group and five sample groups; the sample groups received BNR17 (107 , 108 , 109 and 1010 CFU) or rosiglitazone (8 mg kg−1 ) orally twice a day for 12 weeks. BNR17 groups had a dose-dependent reduction in food, water intake and amount of excrement. Body weight loss was not seen in the BNR17 groups. Fasting and postprandial 2 h blood glucose levels were significantly lower in the BNR17 (1010 CFU) group compared with the control group. HbA1c decreased in the BNR17 group, although it was not statistically significant. During the oral glucose tolerance test, the BNR17 groups exhibited dose-dependent improvement in glucose sensitivity.
Conclusions: Lactobacillus gasseri BNR17 has a suppressing effect on blood glucose levels and improved diabetic symptoms in db/db mice.

The 24-hour urinary excretion rates of creatinine, vanilmandelic acid (VMA), 17-hydroxycorticosteroids, 17-ketosteroids were analysed in 30 female twin pairs. For each of these variables, a comparative study based on the breakdown of total variance into interpair and intrapair variance was undertaken, first on identical (MZ) and fraternal (DZ) twins and then on twins who live together or separately. The comparison of test results shows a strong likeness in the MZ group and in the living together group with respect to the urinary excretion of 17-OH. The variability of VMA excretion can be explained by genetic factors while the variability of 17-ketosteroids and creatinine can be explained with reference to environmental factors. 相似文献
