Hepatic glycogen was assayed in young and adult rats subjected to sialoadenectomy and/or thymectomy and starvation. Sialoadenectomy in young, but not in adult rats caused the rats to stop feeding. In young, but not in adult sialoadenectomized and starved rats the glycogen level was notably higher than in unoperated and starved rats, indicating active participation of salivary glucagon in immature animals in hepatic glycogenolysis under conditions of starvation. Simultaneous sialoadenectomy and thymectomy caused glycogen depletion in the liver of young rats in spite of the absence of the salivary glands. Acceleration of glycogenolysis in these rats was not due to thymectomy, being probably a result of excessive secretion of adrenal catecholamines.  相似文献

IgA responses in submandibular salivary glands, cervical lymph nodes, and saliva of rats were studied. Immunoglobulin-containing cells of the IgA isotype were examined by immunofluorescence of mononuclear cells isolated from the submandibular salivary glands and cervical lymph nodes after primary and multiple local injections of Streptococcus mutans. Also, salivary and serum antibodies to S. mutans were determined using an ELISA. The results support immunologic memory for the secretory (salivary) IgA system at both the cellular and humoral levels. Comparison of the dynamics of the IgAICC responses among the tissues and secretions after the injection regimes suggests that the cervical lymph nodes may provide an enriched tissue source for secretory IgA responses in the oral cavity.  相似文献

The salivary glands of Panorpidae usually exhibit distinct sexual dimorphism and are closely related to the nuptial feeding behavior. In this study, the salivary glands of Neopanorpa longiprocessa were investigated using light microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The salivary glands are tubular labial glands and consist of a scoop-shaped salivary pump, a common salivary duct, and a pair of salivary tubes. The male and female salivary glands are remarkably different in the bifurcation position of the common salivary duct and the length and shape of the secretory tubes. Compared with the simple female salivary glands, the male’s are more developed as their paired elongated salivary tubes can be divided into two parts, the glabrate anterior tube and the posterior tube with many secretory tubules. The ultrastructural study shows that the male salivary tubes have strong secretory function. The existence of different secretion granules indicates that there are some chemical reactions or mixing occurring in the lumen. Based on the ultrastructural characteristics, the functions of the different regions of the salivary tube have been speculated. The relationship between the salivary glands and nuptial feeding behavior of N. longiprocessa has been briefly discussed based on the structure of the salivary glands.

Thymic regulation of primate fetal ovarian-adrenal differentiation   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
We report that fetal thymectomy inhibits oogenesis and induces abnormal ovarian differentiation in rhesus monkeys. In utero thymectomy (n = 5) elevated plasma follicle-stimulating hormone (7.8 +/- 1.1 microgram/ml vs. 4.2 +/- 0.5 microgram/ml; P less than 0.05) and decreased plasma prolactin (24.5 +/- 3.3 ng/ml vs. 76.3 +/- 11.2 ng/ml; P less than 0.05) concentrations compared with intact controls (n = 12), but did not change plasma luteinizing hormone, estradiol, cortisol, dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate, or thymosin-alpha 1 concentrations. In utero thymectomy reduced the weight of neonatal ovaries and adrenal glands, but not hepatic, renal, splenic, or total body weights. After fetal thymectomy, newborn ovaries (n = 8) contained a reduced total number of germ cells (123,926 +/- 11,651 vs. 432,034 +/- 40,311; P less than 0.001). The percentages of individual germ cell types were similar between thymectomized and intact groups (n = 11) except for an increased percentage of preantral-antral follicles in the thymectomy group (P less than 0.01). Our results indicate that the primate fetal thymus regulates antenatal ovarian follicular development, perhaps by interactions between the nascent immunologic and pituitary-ovarian systems.  相似文献

The salivary glands of 2 leafhoppers, Circulifer tenellus and Dalbulus maidis (Homoptera : Cicadellidae) were examined by light and electron microscopy. Centrally located and occupying both the head and thorax, the salivary glands consist of 2 paired parts, the accessory glands and the principal glands. In C. tenellus and D. maidis, the accessory glands are large, multicelled lobes that lie anterior to the principal gland. They join the principal glands near the common salivary duct-gland junction via a thinner tubular duct. The principal glands of both species consist of large binucleate cells that differ in cytology and arrangement. These cells are easily distinguished by unique staining characteristics. Circulifer tenellus salivary gland cells are arranged in 2 lobes, the anterior lobe, made up of 3 concentric rings around the salivary duct and the posterior lobe, arranged in a loose pyramid extending above the foregut. Dalbulus maidis glands are similarly organized around the salivary duct.  相似文献

Development of T cell lineages and the role of the thymus as a source of immature T cells in parotid (PG) and submandibular salivary glands (SMG) were studied in Fischer 344 rats using the Thy-1/CD45RC/RT6 expression model. In addition, the phenotypes of salivary gland lymphocytes were compared with other conventional and extrathymic populations. PG mononuclear cells consisted of T cells (38%), B cells (29%), and NK cells (4%). SMG had 19% T cells, 7% B cells, 37% NK cells, and an unusual population of CD3(-)/RT6(+) cells. In comparison with lymph node (LN), both PG and SMG were enriched in immature (Thy-1(+)) and activated (Thy-1(-)/CD45RC(-)/RT6(-)) T cells. Unchanged percentages of Thy-1(+) T cells in PG and SMG following short-term adult thymectomy indicated that immature salivary gland T cells had an extrathymic source. In contrast, thymectomy eliminated LN recent thymic emigrants. SMG had T cells with characteristics of extrathymic populations, expressing TCRgammadelta(+) (28%), the CD8alphaalpha homodimer (11%), and NKR-P1A (66%). Many SMG T cells expressed integrin alpha(E)beta(7). PG T cells resembled those isolated from LN in respect to TCR and CD8 isoform usage, but were enriched in alpha(E)beta(7)(+) T cells and in NKT cells. Thus, salivary gland mononuclear cells are composed of a variety of subpopulations whose distributions differ between SMG and PG and are distinct from LN. These studies provide a basis for further investigation of regionalization in the mucosal immune network and are relevant to the design of vaccine regimens and intervention during pathological immune processes.  相似文献

本文采用解剖学观察、显微摄影、透射电镜等方法对麦蛾柔茧蜂Habrobracon hebetor幼虫唾液腺的显微形态、超微结构以及发育特性进行了观察和分析。麦蛾柔茧蜂幼虫唾液腺为一对无色透明至乳白色的管状腺体,自口腔沿中肠两侧向后延伸,单侧腺体在中部先分支、后合并成一不规则环状,端部呈单盲管状。唾液腺管道长度随幼虫龄期增加而呈线性增长。对唾液腺切片进行超微结构观察,发现腺管由两类差异明显的单层细胞组成,I型细胞微绒毛层较厚,胞内除有丰富的内质网和线粒体之外,还含有大量囊泡,并观察到囊泡运输分泌颗粒的现象;II型细胞微绒毛短,胞内的内质网和线粒体数量丰富。本文研究为深入探究寄生蜂幼虫的消化生理以及寄生蜂-寄主互作机制奠定了基础。  相似文献

The morphology, histology and ultrastructure of the salivary glands and salivary pumps in the scorpionfly Panorpa obtusa Cheng 1949 were investigated using light microscopy and scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The salivary glands display a distinct sexual dimorphism. The female has only two small sac‐like glands located in the prothorax, while the male possesses six long tubular glands extending into the sixth abdominal segment. The male salivary glands can be divided into five distinct regions. The apical long, thin secretory region possesses numerous secretory cells containing large secretory vesicles; the salivary reservoir expands in diameter, accumulating and temporarily storing the saliva in addition to secreting saliva; the constricted region contains prismatic cells with complex infolded plasma membrane; the sac has an internal brush border to absorb water and ions; the common salivary duct contains longitudinal muscles in the male, but not in the female. The salivary pump possesses independent strong dorsal muscles and abundant internal palm spines near its orifice. The anatomy and ultrastructure of the salivary glands and the salivary pump of scorpionflies as well as their possible functions are briefly discussed.  相似文献

The histology, histochemistry and ultrastructure of the salivary glands of three species of squamata, Podarcis sicula sicula (mandibular glands), Tarentola mauritanica (sublingual gland) and Coluber viridiflavus (supra- and infralabial glands) were studied. Each gland contained acidic cells, positive for both periodic acid Schiff and Alcian blue reactions. These cells can be distinguished as seromucous and mucous types based on the different electron density of their granules. α-Amylase, until now detected only in mammalian salivary glands, was not found in any of the salivary glands examined. The ultrastructural study revealed that the salivary glandular cells of T. mauritanica lack intercellular canaliculi, which by contrast, are present between the seromucous cells in the salivary glands of C. viridiflavus and P. s. sicula . Comparable variation is also seen when the ultrastructural features of the secretory granules in salivary glands of the three Squamata species are compared. The salivary granules of T. mauritanica and C. viridiflavus are more or less dense but structureless, while the mucous granules of P. s. sicula have a distinctive and characteristic substructure. Therefore, this study, designed to obtain comparative data on the histology, histochemistry and ultrastructure of the salivary glands of three representative, but hitherto unstudied, species of Squamata, reveals great variation in the structure of these glands within the Squamata lineage, even when compared to previously documented species.  相似文献

In the present study, FITC-labelled lectins (WGA, Con A, PNA, HPA, and TPA) were utilized to investigate carbohydrate residues on the surface of Rhodnius prolixus salivary glands. The results revealed that the salivary glands are rich in carbohydrate moieties and the diversity in binding pattern of particular lectins showed the presence of specific carbohydrate residues in the basal lamina, muscle, and cell layers of the glands. Subsequently, the sugars detected on the salivary gland surface were employed to investigate the interaction between Trypanosoma rangeli and the R. prolixus salivary glands. In vitro adhesion inhibition assays using long epimastigote forms (the invasion/adhesion forms) showed that some sugars tested were able to block the receptors on both the surfaces of the salivary glands and on T. rangeli. Among the sugars tested, GlcNAc, GalNAc, and galactose showed the highest overall inhibitory effect, following pre-incubation of either the salivary glands or parasites. These results are discussed in relation to previous work on the role of carbohydrates and lectins in insect vector/parasite interactions.  相似文献

The present study on the salivary glands of semi-engorged Amblyomma cajennense females has identified the various cell types present in this tissue and allowed its morphohistochemical characterization. Marking techniques were applied to detect polysaccharides (PAS), proteins (bromophenol blue), lipids (Nile blue) and calcium (von Kossa), as well as those of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results obtained by TEM showed and confirmed that these individuals’ glands are also formed by round acini that are connected to the common excretory duct through acinar and intermediate ducts. Histological data as well as ultrastructural ones showed that the glands are formed by types I, II and III acini. In this study with salivary glands polysaccharides, proteins, lipids and calcium were observed in the cytoplasm and/or cell secretion granules—both free or forming complexes, as the intensity of the marking varied according to the cell as well as the type of acini analyzed, showing the structural and functional complexity of the tick salivary glands, characteristics that give the multifunctional character to this organ.  相似文献

IntroductionImmunoglobulin G4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is a newly recognized fibro-inflammatory condition. Forty-two cases with immunoglobulin G4-related sialadenitis (IgG4-RS) confirmed by histopathological and immunohistochemical assessment were studied to clarify the clinicopathologic characteristics of the salivary glands involved in IgG4-RS, especially the relationship between the histopathologic features and function of salivary glands or serum levels of IgG4.MethodsClinical, serologic, imaging and histopathological data of these cases were analyzed. CT volumes of submandibular, parotid, and lacrimal glands were calculated. The saliva flow rate was measured. Scintigraphy with 99mTc-pertechnetate was undertaken in 31 cases, and the concentration index (CI) and secretion index (SI) was calculated. Relationships between fibrosis severity and salivary gland function or serum IgG4 levels were analyzed.ResultsThe first symptom was swelling of bilateral submandibular or lacrimal glands. Physical examination showed multiple bilateral major salivary glands (including sublingual and accessory parotid glands) and lacrimal glands were enlarged in IgG4 RS. Multiple enlarged cervical lymph nodes were noted in 30 patients. Saliva flow at rest was lower than normal in 34 cases; stimulated saliva flow was lower than normal in 15 cases. Secretory function was reduced more severely in the submandibular glands than in the parotid glands. Serum levels of IgG4 were elevated in 95.2% of cases and 78.6% patients had increased IgE levels. Serum IgG4 level was higher and saliva secretion lower as glandular fibrosis increased.ConclusionsProminent changes in the morphology, histology, immunohistochemistry and secretion of the major salivary glands of IgG4-RS patients were accompanied by involvement of the lacrimal glands and cervical lymph nodes. Elevated IgE, allergic history, eosinophil infiltration suggest allergic reactions as a potential pathogenesis of IgG4-RS. Severity of glandular fibrosis correlated with salivary function and serum levels of IgG4.  相似文献

Morphological and histochemical studies of the cell types in the cephalic glands of Bothrops jararaca have been performed. It is concluded: 1) mucous cells are found in the salivary labial, accessory glands; mucous-serous cells are found in the salivary labial, accessory and Harderian glands; serous-mucous cells are found only in the venom gland; 2) neutral mucosubstances and protein were found in the salivary labial, venom, accessory and Harderian glands; 3) hyaluronic acid was detected in the Harderian gland; 4) of the to sulfated acid mucosubstances, only chondroitin sulfate B was detected in the salivary labial and accessory glands; 5) sialic acid was detected in the salivary labial, accessory and Harderian glands.  相似文献

The interplay between vector and pathogen is essential for vector-borne disease transmission. Dissecting the molecular basis of refractoriness of some vectors may pave the way to novel disease control mechanisms. A pathogen often needs to overcome several physical barriers, such as the peritrophic matrix, midgut epithelium and salivary glands. Additionally, the arthropod vector elicites immune responses that can severely limit transmission success. One important step in the transmission of most vector-borne diseases is the entry of the disease agent into the salivary glands of its arthropod vector. The salivary glands of blood-feeding arthropods produce a complex mixture of molecules that facilitate blood feeding by inhibition of the host haemostasis, inflammation and immune reactions. Pathogen entry into salivary glands is a receptor-mediated process, which requires molecules on the surface of the pathogen and salivary gland. In most cases, the nature of these molecules remains unknown. Recent advances in our understanding of malaria parasite entry into mosquito salivary glands strongly suggests that specific carbohydrate molecules on the salivary gland surface function as docking receptors for malaria parasites.  相似文献

为进一步明确家蚕Bombyx mori变态期间消化系统的生理功能以及溶茧酶的来源器官,通过透射电镜观察和酶活性检测,对家蚕蛹 成虫变态期中肠和涎腺的超微结构、水解酶活力以及中肠内容物的变化进行了观察和分析。结果表明: 蛹第7日到羽化前1日家蚕中肠细胞和刚羽化成虫的涎腺细胞中,均可观察到大量的分泌泡、分泌颗粒、微绒毛等分泌细胞的结构特征以及活跃的分泌现象。潜成虫的中肠和涎腺中都存在活性较高的水解酶活力,其中每毫克中肠组织中蛋白酶活力、酯酶活力和纤溶酶活力分别为726 U、751 U和263 U,每毫克涎腺组织中上述3种酶的活力分别为603 U、523 U和147 U,说明中肠和涎腺可能都具有分泌溶茧酶的功能。家蚕蛹期中肠内容物的主要成分是蛋白质、脂质和糖,三者占内含物总量的95%以上,其中蛋白质含量占78.8%~80.2%。中肠内容物的重量在刚化蛹时为20.1~21.9 mg/头,化蛹后7日内无明显变化,化蛹第9日内容物重量减少63.01%~66.17%,到成虫羽化时已所剩无几,可能是因内容物被消化吸收所致。据此推测,在家蚕变态期中肠还具有贮存和释放营养物质的功能,而溶茧酶的另一个功能可能是分解消化中肠内容物。  相似文献

Theontogeny of the salivary glands in Nucella shows that the accessorysalivary glands cannot be homologdus with the acinous salivaryglands or venom apparatus of the Conoidea.
